Decide On Joy
What You Know You Know
Hello and welcome to this episode of Decide on Joy, a podcast coming to you from Harmony Spiritual Center in Fort Worth, Texas. My name is Jim Koval.
Pjae:And my name is Rev. Dr. P. J. Stanley, and we are so glad to have you here today. I thought we had a great topic today.
Jim:Yeah, today's The topic is what you know, you know what that means, and it's, it's about What's going on? When you, you know something that you don't have any reason to know. Correct. Any logical reasons. Correct.
Pjae:Correct. And it just, I mean, it just happens Well, that's the question. I think that's, that's actually what we're here today to talk about. To say, does it just happen? Is it something that we can call up when we, when we need it? Is it something you can count on? What is exactly going on and is it something you can trust? So, this knowing without knowing why you know. That's what this, that's what it means. Well, how could you possibly know? And so we, we have, and it's not just about negative feelings that you have, because we, you know, a lot of people will, will think about the, you, you walk into a room. So energy is everywhere and you walk into a room or someone walks into the room and you're in the room and suddenly the lights go dim, you know, metaphorically. And you, you just, you, you can feel the negative energy that has just stepped into the room. Now why is that? Is that, is that something, is that you? Is there something, does this person remind you of someone? Is it really going on? Is it really about that person? So I, The question becomes, what do you, how does it serve you? It's always about, what we're doing here At Harmony Spiritual Center and at Decide on Joy is to talk about how to have a great life and how to trust yourself, how to know yourself by asking all these questions all the time and not thinking, not taking things for granted. So, today we're just going to talk about how do we know what we don't, what we shouldn't necessarily know. How do we know that? And how do we trust it?
Jim:I don't know if this is even included in the, under that umbrella, but I can say an example, a really specific example of. A different kind of thing, but still knowing without any reason to know. There was once when I was out on my bicycle and I was waiting at a red light. And this image came into my head of someone running the red light. And so I didn't, I didn't immediately start a crush. Correct. And indeed, someone did. Correct. Correct. And they weren't even in sight when I had the thought. Exactly.
Pjae:Exactly. So what was that about? What was that about? And I, I know I, so many people, I'm sure all of you out there can conjure up a story where you knew something, you didn't know why you knew, you either followed it or you didn't. Either way, there were consequences, either consequences for the good, because you didn't get run over, or consequences for the negative, because you did get run over and you didn't listen to it. And so I, I think what I'm asking, what I'm saying, what I know works for me, because I definitely use it and I think it works, it works for me a great deal. I trust it. And. And I don't think that you can trust it or learn how to do it until you had experience with it. You had an experience like you just had, and then you say to yourself, How did I know that? And then you start to consciously be aware of it. Just bring it to the forefront and think, when did that happen? When have I known that?
Jim:So, how do you do that? How do you bring it to the
Pjae:forefront? Well, you just make a point of it. You actually decide. Just like we talk about here, decide on joy. Making a decision for something. Because we have, our minds are so very powerful. And whatever we focus on, is what grows. This is a, this is a law of attraction. Whatever you focus on grows. So if you decide on something, I want to notice this more, you will notice it. It's one of the things that we say a lot is you, you see what you're looking to see. You, you, you know what I mean? So there are times when I think there's a story. I don't know if it's true or not. It's a great story. I can't, you have to look it up to see if it's true. The, the internet's out there. You can look at this up, but there was something about when when Columbus was coming across the, coming into the, the Americas and they, the, the Indians were looking, but they didn't see the ship. Now a ship is huge. It's, it's not that they didn't see it. It's that they didn't recognize what it was. It's like, is that a cloud on the thing? What is that? So, it's not that they didn't see the ship coming. So, the things that come, it's not that you don't see it, it's that you don't recognize it. And so, you can't actually, your mind doesn't see it because don't have a place for it. So, as you are asking yourself to say, I want to see something, I want to notice more. Let me open my mind to see what's actually here. Your mind will do that. You can just instruct it. And say, I want to. Okay. Yeah. I know. It's, it's really quite, it feels magical, but it just isn't. It's the power of our minds and our dis our abilities to decide. So and why it's important that we do decide.
Jim:Yeah. This may be a totally side issue. Well, this is a, this is a strange little topic, so we can go places. Yeah, but, but something, I read today, someone done extensive like, brain research recently. The question of whether, whether, You rely on language to, to think.
Pjae:Oh, that's interesting.
Jim:And this research said, no, you do not.
Pjae:Okay.
Jim:You may need that language to communicate. Correct, that
Pjae:makes sense.
Jim:But, but what they see lighting up in their brain scans is not the language area.
Pjae:Oh.
Jim:Like when you're set to solve a puzzle. Or something. Right. They would do that sort of thing. And it wasn't, it wasn't the language area that was lighting up. Interesting.
Pjae:Interesting. Yeah. And I, and I, that makes sense to me because I, I do understand that about language and why there's so miss, so much miscommunication. Because what you, you can say something to someone and what, what you say and the image that you see in your head about what you just said can be very different. About what somebody else sees in their head using the same words you just spoke and you see something different. One of my favorite examples of that is when people try to give you directions. That is one of the biggest ways in which we'll end up in Timbuktu when we're trying to go to New York. Because people give us directions in a way that we don't quite understand. And one of the things that we don't send I don't know if we think it's embarrassing for us or for other people is to ask for clarification. Because it seems like they've said something that is simple and you should know. But you don't. So if you don't, go ahead and ask the question. What do you mean by that? You just said for me to go up the street. I'm sorry. Is that a Texas thing? I don't know what up the street is, because up is the sky. So what do you mean when you say that? And they could be very clear in their minds about what they mean by up the street.
Jim:And here it's not likely to be a hill. It's not likely to
Pjae:be a hill. Valid point. It's not likely to be a hill. Yeah, so I'm going up to the store. Oh, okay.
Jim:Yeah, that's a local
Pjae:thing. It is. It absolutely is. So, we were just talking about language and we kind of went down that path, but talking about intuition people, if that's what you want to call it, for me, it's this voice and for me it comes as a voice, it actually comes as a voice that says do or don't, whatever it is, it gives me instructions, tells me some things. For some people, I've talked to different people about How they know something and they tell me that because I think it's a it depends on what kind of person you are I'm a I'm a I'm a person who uses a lot of language. So talking helps for me there are other people who are like artistic and so Colors come for them or their nature people And so I have a friend who when she wants to know something she asked the universe to send a hummingbird her way And it doesn't have to be a live hummingbird. She didn't ask that. She just said a hummingbird. So she could get, she'll get things in the mail from people. Cards with a hummingbird on the back. Someone sent her a necklace with a hummingbird on it. She actually has hummingbirds in her backyard and they'll just fly through. Whatever it is. So when she wants to know something, and she's thinking about something, she asks for confirmation. And the hummingbird. Is what confirms it for her. And she works for her so she knows that she should go forward with it. So I think we have that ability. And she just decided on that. She decided that that's how she wants to do it. And she wants confirmation before she works, before she does something. You didn't need confirmation. You just, you heard it and you just thought. Huh? What is, what do you mean?
Jim:What a cop? Yeah.
Pjae:And you just stayed,
Jim:you just stayed Actually, in my case, it's, yeah. What was the case? It's more likely to be an image or, or okay. What they call a block of thought. And that made it interesting to me. The thing about language and, and, and, and thought, because if you don't. Sometimes if you don't have the words, you may not trust the thing. I mean, if it came to you just as a thought, or as an image, or whatever, you may be less inclined to trust it, because we are very language based. Right,
Pjae:right. Yeah, so well and and part of the reason why I wanted to talk about this today was to say that if this is something that you want to Move forward with that you want to increase in your life. You have to decide on it and then say what you need Because of what you just said, this whole block of language, maybe it's an image. What do you need that will convince your heart and mind that this is a truth for you? And so you just say that, this is what I need to know. I have another friend that says she, I don't understand it, but it works for her. Something about basketballs. She just needs to see a basketball. Can you imagine? But hey, it works for her.
Jim:Hey, if she went to a game, she'd be seeing all kinds of women everywhere, wouldn't she?
Pjae:Spirit saying, go ahead and move, whatever you call that, which is greater than yourself. But he's saying, yeah, go. So, or she had and so, yeah, so you, you know, already. I guess that's what I'm asking you to do, is to believe yourself. You already know. There, so many, there are so many stories out there about some voice, something, some thing saying to you, take a, take an umbrella. And it is bright and sunny and there is not a drop of rain in sight or on the weather forecast. And so you go, huh, no, but that doesn't make any sense. And so you argue with yourself, what are you talking about? And then, of course, later on, you will find yourself outside in the rain.
Jim:Yeah, yeah. A different, a sort of different kind of thing. I just saw this story today Michael Caine, the actor. Oh, Michael, yeah, yeah. Was on a talk show, well, recent, I mean. And he was talking about how he met his wife that he's been married to forever, and he, he was watching TV in, in some context and there was this commercial for Brazilian coffee and there was this woman there, and he just knew. He just knew. He was like, that, that is the woman for me, this is, and so he said to a, a friend. He said, I, I have to go to Brazil tomorrow. We're going to Brazil. I'm going to find her. I love it. And then someone else was there who, who had an ad agency or whatever and, and, and said, oh yeah, we do those ads. And, and, I love
Pjae:it. I
Jim:love it. And so he said, okay, well, I need to find this Brazilian woman because, and he said, oh. No, she's Indian, actually. Oh, okay. And he said, and yeah, she lives in Fulham Road. So he said,
Pjae:So not only did that come, but all the ways in which he could go out and get to her was there and available to him. So that's more confirmation that you're on the right road. You, you stayed. And then that car went by. It's just confirmation. So, the more confirmation you get, this is why I say experiment with it, because the more confirmation you get, the more you understand how to use it for you. Right. For you, the decisions that you need to make in your life. Because I, because the, what I do is speak to myself, I guess here's myself, I'm just speaking out but to the universe, and ask for not just confirmation, because I might not know what to do, I'll ask. What exactly is my role here? What's my, that's my favorite thing to say. What is mine to do here? Because a lot of times we think that, you know, we can affect what someone else is going to do, how something is going to work out, and it may not be yours to do. So that's always my question. Is this, if I have a thought about what to do, I ask, is it mine to do? And if I don't have a thought, I ask, what is mine to do? And, you know, stay, go, leave. I'm not, I'm not, this is what the voice comes and tells me.
Jim:Does the voice ever say, we don't know?
Pjae:Never. It actually says you already know. The voice tells me a lot. You already know the answer to this. Oh. Yeah, I do. Actually, I guess I just want to believe it. I didn't want that to be the answer. Oh, well, yeah, there's that. It says that a lot. You already know. And I believe we do. Just sometimes we need this little extra oomph to believe ourselves. And so, for me, it's really just a segue or a bridge. To really just trusting your own self. You already know, but you don't know how, you know, and so if you, so here's how you get confirmation, and once you get that and you understand how it works for you, you won't need the confirmation anymore. You'll just believe yourself. That's really where we're going with this. Yeah. Okay.
Jim:Yeah. Alright. That was a good place to stop for today, And thank you for being here. Absolutely. And I will see you next time on. Decide on Joy. Yay.
