Hello everyone. Welcome to the Honey and Grace podcast. I'm your host, Veronica Waldrup, and I pray that we can taste and see a little bit of God's goodness through today's episode together. Let's do it.
SPEAKER_03She said it might be heavy. What are we gonna talk about?
SPEAKER_01Welcome back to the Honey and Grace podcast. I'm so glad that you're listening today, and I pray that today's episode will bless you. And honestly, I'm excited for today's episode because I have a very special guest today. And she is no stranger to the podcast. Everyone, let's welcome Anna Martinez.
unknownWoo!
SPEAKER_03Thank you, Ronnie. Thank you for having on the podcast today.
SPEAKER_01Godfavor podcast. Praise God. Yes, Anna and Honeybrew. Manager.
SPEAKER_03Honeybrew. Yes. Praise God. Praise God. I know it's an honor to be here today with you, Veronica. It's always an honor. Um you're my bestie, and I am so excited to be back on the podcast. Ironically, again, as you can hear, my voice, it is hoarse because it's always hoarse when I come on the podcast.
SPEAKER_01Should be in the spirit.
SPEAKER_03I think it's because I have a weak larynx or something, whatever they call it.
SPEAKER_01You're talking like scientifically, I was thinking just because like I know. I think I probably damaged it from like years ago. That was kind of heavy.
SPEAKER_03That was kinda it's a good turn.
SPEAKER_01I think Anna's hoarse voice is like it's like her, so it's my stamp. It's yeah, it's her. So I don't know. If you have a problem with it, I don't know what to say. It's just tough. But I'm so happy to have you on the podcast. Today we are going to just have a little chit-chat and um let the Lord lead us. So hopefully we encourage someone today. But we're gonna start off this episode doing something fun that we've never done before. We're gonna play a little icebreaker game. Yes, and it's called High Low Buffalo.
unknownIt's fun.
SPEAKER_01So basically, we're gonna give a high of our past week, a low of this past week, and buffalo, which is just something totally random that we want to share. So, on a high low buffalo.
SPEAKER_03Oh, I wanted you to go first.
SPEAKER_01No, you go first to the guest.
SPEAKER_03Oh my gosh. Gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh. You got this.
SPEAKER_02All right, well, you know, she goes to her calendar to see what week it was. She's like, what did I do last week?
SPEAKER_03Actually, yeah, because I don't remember. Okay, last week was Easter. Okay. High high period. Hi, hi. We celebrated Easter, had amazing service, it was so powerful. But also, we went to the I Am Play at Little Rock, Arkansas. Yes, I forgot. Exactly. Exactly. It's really hard because the days be flying. So, um, no, that's a really good high. I love that. It was so much fun. We got to go with some of our girls. Yes. And I just loved it so much. It was so refreshing. Yeah. So fun to be with everybody. Um, a low, like how low? Like, how low are we talking about?
SPEAKER_01Any kind of low.
SPEAKER_03Like, are we talking are we trying to get like deep?
SPEAKER_01Whatever you want. Hey, if you want to go deep, let's go. I just don't want to go with you.
SPEAKER_03You know, in the Bible where it talks about, oh, that song. It's in the Bible too, but that song that goes like, even in the deepest something. Yes. He's there. Yeah. He's in the room.
SPEAKER_01I'm making my bed in hell.
SPEAKER_03Yes. Yes. Um, hello. Oh god. I don't know. The Lord's been really good. I've been on a high this whole week. I really can't think of anything, to be honest with you. I don't know. I kind of feel bad. Okay, we'll come back to that. Buffalo. Buffalo, something random. What the heck? It was like, oh shut up. That was my random, that was my buffalo. Um, something, something random, something random. She goes to your camera roll. I'm dead.
SPEAKER_02This is funny. You're cheating.
SPEAKER_03What? Alolo. I know a lolo. Okay, a low. Let's go. So it was Thursday last week. Okay. And I was driving down the road.
SPEAKER_01I know what you're talking about.
SPEAKER_03Making a delivery to our favorite people ever, Center Hill Middle School. Had four drinks going to make this delivery for the honeybreom. And right when I was just vibing, enjoying, you know, listening to Christian music and just having the best time because, you know, love my job, love everything about it, love life. Um, I'm just going pretty, I was going like 60 maybe, but it was kind of like on the highway, kind of. I wasn't speeding. I was going like 60, and the drinks were on my floor. Um, and as I was driving, I'm like, I see, I don't know if this happens to you, but sometimes like when I'm driving, I'm observing. Like, you know, obviously you have to be what is it, like kind of looking at your surroundings. Cause you know, cars like we're driving with other people that probably will make an accident. So I was driving and I saw this car. It's a divided highway. So this car was supposed to cross over to the road. And I was watching, it's like in my mind, I just like, please don't jump. Please don't just jump in. Like, I'm going 60 right now. I have these drinks in my car. I do not want this person to jump in and me have to slam my brakes and then all my these all this drink just whatever. So, anyways, I'm cruising, and this person does exactly what I feared. I feared. And he got he gets right in the middle of like not in the right in the middle, but he just crosses and we're like so close, it like triggered me because that scared me. And I slammed on my brakes, and two of the large drinks spilled all over my floor, my car floor. And I was so sad. That's a that's the low. That's my low. I was so sad, bro. I was so I had to pull over because I had to- All over her car.
SPEAKER_01That's bad.
SPEAKER_03I had to re I had to like recollect, recollect myself. I it took me a second because I I literally, you know, that's healthy, that's good. Yeah, I had to let it out, and then I called Veronica, my boss. I had to call her and tell her the situation, and I had to come back. But you good news, I got my car cleaned. I cleaned my car that same day because I didn't want my car smelling like coffee or spoiled milk.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that would be nice. Yeah, I'm glad you cleaned that. Yeah, that would be gross.
SPEAKER_03So that's my low. That was a pretty low part of last week. The high part was going out. I am. I really enjoyed going out with my friends. So fun, it was very much really fun. That have a photo of Veronica, and it's so funny. I'm gonna make a sticker out of that. Wait, that's kind of funny. Actually, your sticker game is coming up. But something random. Me and Veronica did these skincare masks the other day, the other night. What were they called? Medicube. Medicue from Ulta. Jaden put us on, and bro, they're so good. Yeah, they're so good.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we're not like getting paid for this, but if you're looking for a face mask to like rejuvenate your skin and really hydrate you, I do recommend the Medicude ones. Those are pretty great.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we're putting y'all, we're putting y'all on because you know we're not gonna get gatekeeper.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I'm not really big on face masks like sheet masks, but those they were very good.
SPEAKER_03I love the way that my skin looked afterwards. Um, why'd you make that face?
SPEAKER_04I don't know.
SPEAKER_03Um, but that's it.
SPEAKER_01Well, that's good, that's good. High low buff. Okay. My high, I would probably say along the same lines. The I am trip was so fun. Going to Little Rock, the flight, ice cream, the coffee was so good that we went to. Like, that was so fun. Plus, I'd probably throw in Easter with that. I feel like Easter Sunday was a great day. We had great church, we had a lot of visitors. Um, I got to spend time with family and friends, and then we went to Bethlehem that night, and it was a great time. Like, I think Easter Sunday was probably my high. So Easter is probably my high for my low. It's hard, ain't it? I would say my low is probably this past weekend on Saturday, we um we worked, which went great and everything, but I missed a few things, and I kind of hate that I missed it. I told my parents that I missed um a friend's bridal shower, a friend's baby shower, and I even missed a housewarming party from somebody at my church, and it's all because I worked all like most of that day, and so I missed a few things. So that was pretty a low for me. I hate missing stuff like that, but you know, I did get gifts for them, and hopefully that that will yeah will make up.
SPEAKER_03But that's the thought that counted.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you got some things Buffalo. I would say my random thing is that I'm so obsessed with mochi now. Jaden also put me on that. So shout out to Jaden. I don't know if she's listening to this, but she put me on mochi recently, and I had gone to Trader Joe's the other day and bought three different flavors: strawberry, vanilla, and salted caramel. And they've become like one of my favorite things.
SPEAKER_03They're so good.
SPEAKER_01I like to eat one like like I'll eat one before I go to bed, and it's so good. It's like so yummy. Thank you. I never thought I'd like mochi, but yeah.
SPEAKER_03Thank you, girl. You're really putting us on different stuff.
SPEAKER_01You really are. You're into it.
SPEAKER_03She's even put us on some good Christian some new Christian.
SPEAKER_01Well, you know, we put her on that rap, but now she's putting us on some good stuff. I know, I know. Hey, we pour, she pours, that's the kind of friends you need. We pour into each other. That's what we need to do. So, yeah, um, that's probably my high low buffalo. But other than that, tell us a little about you have any updates, Ana, going on in your life right now? How are things going for you? How's your year been? How's you know, life been working out? You have a good word this year. How's that going?
SPEAKER_03It's going really, really good. My word is renewal, and the Lord has been renewing some areas in my life. So I can really say my word is kind of coming to that, like alive. I feel like there's a lot of things. It's more so of a renewal in my spirit, my heart, and my goals, and my spiritual walk with God. There's some things that I guess sometimes, you know, when life gets really busy, you kind of get distracted. And sometimes, like for myself, I kind of put um, I kind of put, I kind of put some things on the why are you looking at your notifications?
SPEAKER_02Stop trying to get distracted. You have ADHD. Turn that gentle and do not disturb me. Yes, ma'am.
SPEAKER_03Yes, ma'am. No, but actually, um, I feel like the Lord has really been renewing, and I feel like a lot, there's a lot of reclaiming, redirection. And I feel a lot of peace in my life right now where I'm at. Working with you has been amazing. Working for the honeybrew, I feel so much peace. I'm so thankful. I really can't complain. The Lord's just been so good to me this in 2026. He's been very good, and it he's always been good. But updates for updates just in general. No, I mean, nothing crazy, nothing that you don't know about, of course. Yeah, but for the listeners, I got a little excited.
SPEAKER_02Sorry. Sorry, that's funny.
SPEAKER_03You know, just keep fighting. I'm just keep fighting this, this, this, what is it?
SPEAKER_02I just keep fighting this life. Just keep fighting this life, y'all. Keep fighting the good fight, is what no, fighting the good fight. Yes, that's good. Amen. Preach a little right there. Preach right there, preach a little bit right there.
SPEAKER_03No, we're pressing toward the mark of the prize. We're we're keeping our focus on a goal, we're keeping it, you know, we're different, Loki.
SPEAKER_02When you said we're pressing towards the mark, I was like, the mark of the beast. You said we're we're pressing towards the mark of the prize. I was like, where's she going with this?
SPEAKER_03Right, bro. Paul said it. I pressed toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ's Jesus. But no, it's been very good.
SPEAKER_01How has your life been? How's it? It's been good, it's been good. I actually haven't even told this to the podcast, but you know, we are doing a second trailer, so that's a blessing. I literally have not announced that on the podcast. I think that maybe if you listen to this, you probably follow me, so you probably have seen already, but that is a big announcement. I'm so excited, and we're excited for that. Um a lot of things going on as far as like work, life, things, transitions, and changes, but um, it's been good, it's a blessing, and we're gonna see it prosper in Jesus' name. As far as me, like I don't know, I'm still the same. This is a problem. No, no, no. The Lord has been working on me this year, you know, guys. I have been my word this year is elevate. Yeah. So I'm not gonna lie, I haven't really seen the elevate part, but I've been seeing the low part. I mean, you know, but you can't be elevated from high places, you have to be elevated from low places, yeah. Starting the bottom. So I have seen the bottom recently.
SPEAKER_03See, you say that, but I see elevation.
SPEAKER_01Okay, praise God. I don't know.
SPEAKER_03I mean, it might look like elevation, but I guess I I can see where, but it is, but I think the Lord is ordering your steps.
SPEAKER_01I think the Lord is definitely ordering my steps. Um, I'm just gonna be honest, you know. We have good days and we have bad days, and we have good months and bad months, and recently I'm so blessed, I'm thankful, but I've been, you know, God has been working on me, so I'm grateful for that. Other than that, you know, church is going well. I'm so glad that we're seeing the sunshine. I'm ready for summer. I can't wait for conferences and summer things. I'm excited. You know, we're gonna have a good time, we're gonna have some good days. As always, we're going to a rodeo, maybe, hopefully.
SPEAKER_03Yes, stay tuned for that, you guys. If you really want to go stay on the show, stay tuned for our rodeo. Stay tuned for our rodeo.
SPEAKER_01We did go to New York. I don't know if we talked about that on the podcast. We we went to New York this year, that was so fun.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_01We had an incredible time. We went to Destin as well, we went to the beach.
SPEAKER_03So As you can tell, me and Veronica go to traveling a lot.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, sister Trina said that we're either at work or on vacation.
SPEAKER_03Exactly.
SPEAKER_01And that's pretty much the truth.
SPEAKER_03And you know what? I'll have it any other way.
SPEAKER_02That's right. That's wrong. Not I'll keep talking now. Okay, that's good.
SPEAKER_01No, but for real. Um, so do you have anything you'd like to add in this moment? Um, I feel like I feel like I'm like being uh interrogated by the police.
SPEAKER_03Do you have anything else to say for yourself?
SPEAKER_01Anything we're just gonna be very, very honest. We didn't I did not know what we were gonna talk about today. I'm just gonna say no, it's okay. I'm just gonna be honest. We didn't know what we were gonna discuss on this episode, but we are going to talk about something very don't mind me. I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_02What are you doing? I have this I'm gonna say it, but don't say it. You just stop doing it. Just stop you're distracting me.
SPEAKER_03I'm actually excited for this topic because this is different. It's do you think so? Yeah, I like it. You know, when you s when you just came in right now and told me we prayed, guys. We did we prayed right before we started because we were like, we want direction, we want somebody to be blessed. Yes. I mean, you guys know we laugh so much. I mean, honestly, y'all think we laugh so much on like the mics? Y'all already know, but we always know that we want to be in the will of God and we want to bless people, we want to bless y'all. We want right, we want to make sure that y'all not only laugh on this podcast, but we want to make sure that you leave encourage very much. And so when you came in here and told me the word that you wanted to talk about, that's a good topic because I talked about it a couple of times. I we used to do life groups at our church, and I kind of spoke on that years ago. Actually, it's on my notes. It was in 2021, that was a while ago, but I think it's a really good topic, so yes, I'm excited.
SPEAKER_01So today, big reveal drumroll. Drum roll, please.
SPEAKER_02Did you say that? Yeah, oh my gosh, we were in sync.
SPEAKER_01We were okay we've been in sync a lot recently. It's kind of weird. Okay, ready submission.
SPEAKER_02You spell like a vampire. When their bangs come out like a cat. Oh no, it's gross. It's weird, okay.
SPEAKER_01Okay, but today we're gonna talk about submission.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_01Now, this kind of sounds like a heavy word, right? Submission. Submit for two goofy girls for two for us to be goofy girls.
SPEAKER_02We do be having some pretty good conversations, y'all.
SPEAKER_01Am I we find ourselves having really good, godly, like serious, deep conversations a lot. Like, I'm not gonna lie. Like, honestly, more often than like you would think. Like, we just be sitting there yapping, and somehow we turn out crying. So I don't really know, but that's the truth. So today we're gonna talk about submission. I think this is a very important thing. I did actually teach this like at ladies' like at Wednesday night the last week. We had like ladies' Bible study, and I talked about submission, and it was just something that was really on my heart. So we're gonna talk about that today. And um, so Anna, do you want to get us started?
SPEAKER_02And if I was supposed to be instant in season and out of season, you clog my tea. I'll tell you that.
SPEAKER_03Clog me. No, but seriously, though, um, yes, that is such a great topic, I believe. And I hear I've listened to lots of uh preachings about submission in the past as well. Um, and I need to do that more often. Go back and do that and go back and listen to someone.
unknownI'm like okay.
SPEAKER_03Because you know what? I need my tea clock sometimes, you know what I'm saying? I need to be corrected, but not because we're just bad people, I just genuinely feel like we're human beings, right? We're human and we have the Holy Ghost, praise God, and so the Holy Ghost gives us the conviction, and that's he gives us the power to, in other words, be submitted. I think that the Holy Ghost really helps us. Um, even the Bible says in James one, I believe one, or maybe I'm wrong. James like three or something. I don't know, but it's in the book of James. Um I feel bad because now it's like the girl don't know her word. But it's in the book of James and talks about the tongue, and it kind of compares the tongue because it's such a small member, but although it's such a small member, how much fire, how much it could uh corrupt the entire body. And it just talks about that. Um and it kind of relates it to or compares it to like you know that thing, those bits on the horse's mouth, like you control it by yanking it. Yes, yes, so it compares it to that, and it even compares the tongue to like that that small steering wheel for the big chips. Yeah, I'm going somewhere with this. Yeah, I know. Just stay with me. Yes, rocking honey. But you see, like it compares that to the tongue, and although it's such a small member, like we think those are small members, but it controls the whole thing. Yes, that's good, and so in other words, I just believe that when you get the Holy Ghost, I think that's literally why the God allowed the Holy Ghost, the evidence of it is to speak in tongues. Because when someone receives the gift of the Holy Ghost, the Bible says in Acts 2 that it would be like fire, the Bible says that fire set upon them, and so they would speak tongues of fire. But when someone gets the Holy Ghost, it is because they have completely surrendered and submitted to God, they have just completely yielded to Jesus, yeah, and there is evidence that comes forth from that, right? And so I think that's why the Lord does that, because your tongue, although it's such a small member, but it does it can do a lot of damage.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, the Bible says it defiles you, it can defile you.
SPEAKER_03Yes, and it'll do so much damage, but it also can do so much good. But out of the same mouth, you can speak life or death. Out of the same mouth, you can bless or curse. And so, God, we are made in his image. Made in his likeness, and in the beginning, when God created heaven and earth, he just spoke it. So because we're created in his image, he created us like him, and we have that sort of same power. We're not him, we're not God, we're not divine like him, but he has given us a certain power, I believe, with that. Because if you're always speaking negatively, all that stuff, you know what I'm saying? But I'm not trying to go into all that. But I think it just ties in and it plays in with submission.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_01Because we were talking about earlier today, like, you know, the things that you speak and the things that you say, it's it's really a reflection of your heart because the Bible says that out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. So whatever's dwelling in your heart, whatever you are like longing for, desiring, those things you speak it out. And even if it seems like it's not important or oh, they were just joking, well, that's still their heart posture. That's you're seeing their heart. So I think that's good. I think that's where the Holy Ghost comes into play and all of that. But to be submitted, like you said earlier, is to like yield to the Lord. So if we submit ourselves to God, we don't just submit our plans and surrender to Him, but we submit that willingness to speak and everything as well. Like, Lord, give us the fruits of your spirit. The fruits of your spirit is the things that come with having the Holy Ghost. Like when you have God's spirit living in you, you should bear good fruit. So this, I mean, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, love, joy, all these things should abound out of you and around your life because you have the Holy Ghost. You're dwelling in his spirit. And so when you're submitted, it all comes from being submitted to God. But I think that when you are submitted to God, not only are you submitting to him, you make basically make this commitment to submit to other things as well, like whatever God puts in your life. So we know, like leadership and and your pastor, your pastor's wife, and even your your parents, and later on in your life when you get married, like there's other people in your life that you have to submit to. I just think that that's so good. I I'm excited to talk more about that as well.
SPEAKER_03And that study that I did years ago, I was reading actually the book of Ephesians, and it was Ephesians 6, and I read that entire chapter, and then I read it again and again and again because I felt like the Lord was trying to lead me somewhere. At the time, I think I had to speak out of a life group, and I really wanted to be sensitive to what the Lord was trying to speak. When I read the whole chapter again and again, I noticed that you know it's a letter that Paul wrote to the church, and what he started off first in the letter. Um, that whole chapter itself, a lot of people recognize it because it speaks about the whole armor of God. It speaks about basically urge your loins, the truth, uh, put on the helmet of salvation, breastplate of righteousness, all that. We all know that because we don't fight against flesh and blood, we're fighting against principalities and powers. And I hear this saying all the time where they say, and I'm sure you've heard it too, and everybody that's listening, like, you can't have authority unless you're submitted under authority. And so I read that and I kept reading that chapter over and over again from the from the beginning to the letter to the end of that chapter. And something that really stood out to me was that Paul, when he first writes that letter of Ephesians 6, like on that part, he's talking about submission. He's his first thing is telling children, obey your parents. And then he's telling his the other people, he's telling them, um, I'm trying to let me go back because I remember he said, children obey your parents. And then he talks about servants, you must obey your masters according to the flesh, you know, according to people in your life. You have to be submitted to your boss, whoever, you know, not actual masters, but you know, those that have ruler authority over you. And he's just talking about submission. He's talking about submitting yourself to authorities, physical authorities. And then it got me thinking, then he goes on to read about spiritual authority and putting on the spiritual armor so that we can fight against the principalities, the powers. But it made sense to me because, like you were just saying, when we get the Holy Ghost, there are fruits that have to come forth.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And really, if we think about it, those fruits are just simply actions and words that you and I do on a day-to-day basis. It's how we treat our neighbor, it's how we treat our boss, it's how we treat each other, it's how we treat our parents, it's how we treat our friends, it's how we act with strangers. Are we kind to them? Are we demonstrating Jesus? Are we showing Christ-like behavior at school? Are we, you know, these are questions that we have to ask ourselves because when Jesus is at the center of your life and when you have the Holy Ghost, these are requirements that you and I have because to much is given, much is required. And the Holy Ghost is a gift of from God. It's a gift. And so having this precious gift, it is not to be handled lightly. And we should not grieve the Holy Ghost by acting crazy and acting arrogant or acting prideful or acting mean and ugly and bitter towards each other, because then that just shows I'm not submitted to the Holy Ghost. My flesh is ruling me more than the spirit. And that's a big problem that I think sometimes we'll overlook because we think we make excuses for it. Oh, whatever. You know, like it's we'll let it pass, you know, they're so and so, or they're this, whatever. And I just think that's kind of wrong because we should be held accountable to our actions and what we say or what we do. And I know we goof around, we joke around. That's not that's not what I'm talking about. Because I think we have the joy of the Lord, and that's one of my probably my favorites, because we laugh all the time. But I I do think that, like Paul was making a pretty powerful statement there. You need to be submitted, not just in the spiritual, because we think, you know, it's all about being spiritual, it's all about, you know, having authority in the spirit, casting out devils. But are we submitted to one another? Are we showing that same amount of respect that we would show our pastor to our brother or sister in the church?
SPEAKER_01I think because we when we hear submission, we immediately think of like our pastor, like we think, you know, you gotta be submitted to your pastor. And yes, you do. That's so important. Like you should not go without having a pastor in your life. I think that is so important. Um, even for pastors to have pastors, like there needs to be some sort of authority, um, spiritual authority that God can can speak through them to you. So that is so important. But to be submitted is not just to be submitted to your pastor and pastor's wife, but to be submitted, like you said, to one another. Literally, the Bible says that to be submitted one to another. And that is so important. And I think that's also a where a lot of the fruits of the spirit come into. You are saying, like, you know, being loving and kind and joyful and all those things, those are so important. But to be submitted to like a friend, to be submitted to a mentor, to be submitted to your husband or wife, whatever season you're in, you know, like that is so important. And that really shows the Lord through us. It really does. I think in our generation and like the society right now, it's you know, kind of not cool to be submitted. You know, it's not really cool. It's kind of more popular, like known to kind of do your thing, be yourself, do what you want to do, don't worry about what other people say about you, just kind of follow your dreams and like make your own life, you know, make make it out to what you want to be, you want it to be. And honestly, sometimes that sounds fun and we kind of joke about that, but it's not, I don't think that's like what God intended because if we were to just do everything on our own, that means we're not in submission to something higher. If we were to just create every first of all, we don't create everything on our own. Like we're not, I'm not, you know, an independent woman, like as much as I might portray myself to be, or like other ladies or young ladies might say, like, you know, I'm an independent woman, or like all these things. I'm really not, because everything I have is literally from God. So, like, if anything, I'm very dependent on the Lord. Everything that I have has been a gift from Him and a blessing from Him, and I don't take credit for anything. So I know that it's like a funny, cool thing to say sometimes, like girl boss, whatever. But when it comes down to it, I really am in submission to God, and that's how I have everything that I do have. And same thing for like our lives. If we were to try to make it out to our to be our own, like we wouldn't be in submission to what God has in store for us and what God has for us. And so um, I don't think that's of God. And and like I know that there's a whole lot more to that, but that's just kind of what's been on my mind recently.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I really I agree with that a lot because and I, you know, I for a while I would read the book of Proverbs a lot, and one of my favorite verses in it is Proverbs three and five or six. It says, and all thy ways directly. I think the Bible has so much to do with submission, and it gives you keys to how to be submitted, because in order to be submitted to God, you really have to acknowledge Him in every decision, everything that you do. The Bible says, pray without ceasing. Yeah, you pray for everything. That's what it says in Philippians as well. I think if we take our lives and we submit it, we give it to the Lord, give it in the altar and say, God, I want you to do whatever it is that you want to do with my life because your ways are higher, your ways are bigger than mine, than my thoughts and my ideas, all of it is bigger than mine. And I think that takes submission. And submissions also you mentioned like being submitted to your spouse, being submitted to one another. It's gonna have to deal with crucifying your flesh. It's a matter of you crucifying your desires, crucifying uh it's humility, humility, yeah. It's laying yourself at the altar. There's this bio, this verse, I mean, this verse that says, Submit yourselves unto God, and what is it? The devil will flee from you. Yeah, or is it okay? So in that verse, I think I wrote down, if you will submit yourselves unto God, it'll be easy to resist the devil because the enemy will use our flesh. That is like one of the number one things he'll use our own flesh, our own pride, our own ego, our own anything really to get in the way for us to be submitted to one another, to be submitted unto God, to be submitted to our leadership. Because, like you said, this this generation, and I think I really do feel like Paul was dealing with it too. As humans, our nature is that we don't want to be submitted. We don't want to do what anybody else tells us to do. We want to do what we think is best, is best.
SPEAKER_01It's more fun, is all those things. I agree. I think um it's like you mentioned, it's like a humbling, and it it also like I think about myself and just my life this year. Like I mentioned before that my word is elevate this year. And like when you hear the word elevate, you're like, oh, like you're gonna go to more like higher levels, like you're gonna grow in God. Like, you know, God's gonna prosper you this year and all those things. That's what you think. And but I'm thinking to myself, like, I've seen submission so much in this year. Like, I don't know, like genuinely, because there's such a a humbling to go to higher places, like I said earlier, you have to like, it's like you have to bow lower, like you have to bow lower in submission, bow lower in humility in your prayer life, and like, and because I can't go higher like without God. I don't have the ability. I don't, I can't, I can't do bigger things or go to better places without the Lord and without that authority in my life. I've had more instances this year to where I've had to go into submission to the Lord and to my pastor and my my pastor's wife, which is also my parents, but I've had to talk to them about more decisions this year than I ever have. I feel like I've had to submit to the things they tell me. I've had to submit to friends and and things like that as well. Like God has really been dealing with me in that. And like you mentioned, Proverbs like three and five through six, I think it is. That has literally, I was thinking about this the other day in the card. That's literally like been the scripture of my year. It says, trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding in all your ways, acknowledge him. I have had to trust in the Lord with all my heart and lean not. To lean not on your own understanding is to be submitted. Like when you're submitted, you can't lean on yourself. You have to lean on the person in front of you. You have to lean on God, you have to lean on what he's showing you because your understanding is not enough. Like we can't fathom the things that God's doing in the supernatural. All your ways, acknowledge him, like you said, and every single day and everything you do, and he will direct your path. Like that is how you're going to be elevated or taken higher or deeper, whatever, when you're submitted and you're trusting in him, because I never want to be like too in my mind or for other people. I never want to be like too successful or too smart or too intelligent or too good or too, you know, known to like be submitted to God. I never want to be too much to where I can't listen to what my friend has to tell me. I never want to feel like I'm such on a mountain of of blessing and prosperity that I can't listen to when Anna's trying to clock my tea. Like, you know, I never want to be so like, I would never want to feel so successful that I can't listen to what my mom has to tell me and and the direction she tries to direct me. It all starts there. You, we all want to be elevated and prosper, and we want to be lifted up and we want God to bless us. But I think a lot of times when we ask God to do that, it's like he takes us to the beginning. Like, I'm gonna bless you, but we need to go back to the start. You need to be submitted, you need to submit in all your ways. And it's not just to your pastor and pastor's wife, but like we've been talking about, it's to your friends, to your neighbors, to your loved ones, be submitted and all of those things.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's a lifestyle, it's a daily thing. And Paul speaks about crucifying your flesh daily, it's a daily thing that we're learning. And like you were just saying, it takes to have a teachable spirit. Yeah, you just have to be teachable, teachable, and be able to be corrected, be able to be, you know, to have wise, like wise counsels around you, and the Lord will always provide that. And just submitting ourselves unto one another and being clothed with humility. That's what the Bible says, because there's an adversary that he really wants to see, or how do I say this? I was reading a book and it's called Maintaining the Divine Operation with Eli Hernandez, and that book literally all it really talks about humility, it talks about being submitted because when you're submitted and you humble yourself, you really the devil really can't use you to hurt yourself or to hurt anyone because you're humble, and humil humble people resist the urge of always wanting to be right, they are willing to admit error when they are wrong. So we need to pray, and I pray this every day. Like I'm not gonna sit here and say I'm a humble person because once you step in, you say that it's like you've lost it, like you're not humble because you've already think you are. Yeah. Um, but the Bible that says to be clothed with humility for God resisteth the proud, but he gives grace to the humble. And when we humble ourselves and repent and submit to one another, to our leadership, to authority, to God, he'll give us grace for the race. Right, right. You know, he'll give us grace for the journey that he's calling us to. He'll give you grace to be able to navigate through life. And it takes humility and submission to be able to lay at an altar and say, God, I need your direction. I can't do this without you. Because the Bible literally says, Jesus said, I am the vine and ye are the branch branches, because without me you can do nothing. And that's the mentality, that's humility, that's submission. God, I can do nothing without you. I can't take the next step without you. I will not take the next next step without you. Moses was the most humble man in the Old Testament. That's what the Bible says, and that's what everybody calls him scholars-wise. And even God called him the most humble man. But Moses told God, I'm not going if you're not going with us. I'm not going to, and I'm not going to take another step unless your presence comes with us. And so that takes humility because Moses, he could have just gone ahead and took the next step. He could have gone to go to the next battle without God. He could have, you know, you and I, we can make decisions and we and prosper in our own way, and we can be quote unquote um successful.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But we're going to have to give account to that, right? You know, to God. And even the Bible says that on that day many will say, Depart from me, I never knew you, you workers of iniquity. Because although, yeah, you were successful, yes, you quote unquote look like blessings or it looked like you were prospering, but that was your own work. That was iniquity. You were doing it for yourself. You were doing it for your own status, your own reputation. You weren't doing it to glorify him. You were doing it to glorify yourself. And that's iniquity. That's literally what Satan, that's why he was kicked out of heaven for, because there was iniquity found in him, pride, and pride cometh before destruction, the Bible says. So, but honor cometh before humility. So when you and I humble ourselves and submit ourselves unto God, unto other people, unto our leadership, we are not giving the enemy access to our lives because we're saying, I don't have to be right. I don't have to always get the last word. I can turn the other cheek. I can love this person, even though they hate me or they want to hurt me or harm me. I can set some boundaries, but I don't have to be right. I don't have to, you know, call them out and make a big scene about it or make it look like I'm the big person. Like you said, this generation sometimes we think like we have to show ourselves that we're the big bad person.
SPEAKER_01We have to prove ourselves like you don't have to prove anything before.
SPEAKER_03No, especially, especially if you want to live in submission and in humanity.
SPEAKER_01Because we are nothing. Exactly.
SPEAKER_03We are. We're not.
SPEAKER_01And you you mentioned the vine and the branches. I don't know if you've seen, but there's like a little thing on Instagram. It's like a picture of this tree, and it says the branch with the most fruit like bows the lowest. And that is true. Like it really does. Trees that are are bloomed with fruit, they bow lower because and it's almost like it's like a submission thing. It's like in in our spiritual lives, it's like when we are submitted and we bow low and we're humble and we walk in that, then we can bear more fruit in our lives. He gives and he takes away. So like I feel like sometimes the Lord does things and puts you through things, maybe even breaks you sometimes to make you realize that it's all about him anyway. He might take something away from your life. He might, you know, remove something, and then you're left feeling low, but he's just trying to show you, like, hey, I'm the real reason that you're here. I'm the one that you're living for. You weren't living for this success, or you weren't living for this opportunity or job or this person, this relationship, but you're living for me. And you're gonna need me through the good and the bad. And then it it creates this relationship with the Lord that you're like, hey God, like no matter what I go through, whether it's good, whether it's bad, I'm still submitted to you. Like it's all about you. Like you said, we're not here to glorify ourselves, but we're glorifying God in everything we do. So if we live a life of submission and humility, then like on the good days, we'll still praise him. We'll still read the word, we'll still bless his name and keep our prayer lives. And on the bad days, we'll do the same thing. You know, we can't, we can't find like this. I feel like I've been through seasons of my life where it's like things were on such a high, like I was doing so well, I felt so good that I kind of let my prayer life slip away. Like I kind of stopped tapping in with the Lord as much because I just felt good already. And that's so bad of me, but like I'm just gonna be honest and vulnerable. Like I have felt those seasons in my life. And then it's like God would remove something or kind of break me. And then I come and realize I'm like, Lord, like I couldn't have done this without you anyway. And I'm like, Lord, I can't, I can't go another day without seeking you and like trying to get in your presence because this is where I find my strength. This is where I found my hope and my joy and my love and everything. And so it really is all about him. And when we realize that this life is centered around Jesus, there's no point in trying to prove ourselves or make ourselves known or make ourselves, you know, on our own. We can't. Why would you want to do that when God can do so much better with your life if you just yield and submit to him instead?
SPEAKER_03Yes. And you mentioned brokenness that God will sometimes have to take us into brokenness or humble us. And that's usually what like a wilderness season will do is like it'll break you. And it and even in the old testament, like in Deuteronomy, I think, God told the Israelites that's why they went. Through the wilderness because he was humbling them, he was testing and basically their intent their intentions and proving if they would do his will or not. And we can see how that played out. They sit in a wilderness for more extra time than they needed to, but that's because God was really trying to break them, break uh like he was trying to break them so they would be clothed with that humility, and that's really sometimes what it'll take. God has to break our ego, break our pride, break those things that we have in ourselves, and but and we have to go through those seasons. But that's where I think the wonderful grace of God comes into our lives. Because in the wilderness, He won't leave us, He won't forsake us, in the fire, in the waters, He won't let that harm us. But it's all made for a purpose because God wants to elevate us, God wants to take us to new levels. But where there's new levels, there's new devils, there's new battles. We can't let ourselves be exposed by the enemy by being prideful. Because once we step into that state of being prideful, of not praying enough, in that new level, we're not gonna be able to face those new devils the way that we should. We're gonna be probably attacked harder because we're not under submission, we're not under the authority, and this is where we have to rely on God's grace and God's mercy. You mentioned like praying, like we have to pray without ceasing. And I've had that happen to me too, you know, being just being straightforward about it. But sometimes we just get so busy with life and it's like I don't got time to pray. Like, you know, I don't I don't got time to read the word today, but you know, I'll try. But I've learned that it's very important to no matter what, try to be consistent because the minute you're not, it's like something happens, and you're like, and you're like wondering why you feel this way, but it's because you haven't got you haven't been abiding.
SPEAKER_01You haven't you haven't dwelt in his presence, and where his presence is, there's fullness of joy, there's pleasures, and exactly we need that, we have to have that in our life. Like we get to the point where when we get to the point where we're too busy or we're too like distracted, like everything's going great, you know, everything's good, I don't really have to, you know, do that today. That is where we start to slip, and yeah, things can creep in that we don't want. And so and sometimes I feel like God does put us through those things just to remind us, like, hey, this is what I'm here for and this is what's important.
SPEAKER_03And it just shows how much he loves us. It shows because a father who chastise chastineth his son, you know, he loves him. So I feel like when the Lord puts us through those s seasons of brokenness, although it's so painful and it feels like your world is collapsing, but we have an advocate, we have someone that will never leave us or forsake us, so we can run to him, and then we start to really appreciate him more than anyone else, and he becomes our one friend, our one you know, comforter. And this is where our strength comes from because we're weak, we're tired, we're vulnerable. And many times the Bible tells us, Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, come to me and I will give you rest. He says in the book of first or second Corinthians that uh my strength is perfected in weakness, and so Paul says, Therefore, I will glory in my afflictions and my persecutions. I'm gonna God's gonna get the glory out of this. Yeah, I'm not gonna stay here, he's gonna turn it for good, he's gonna do a great thing because all things work together for the good. Yeah, and this might not feel good, but Bishop always says, if it ain't good, it ain't over. Something like that.
SPEAKER_02Something like that, you know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_03You know what I'm saying? Uh right, I think that's what he says. If it ain't good, it ain't over. Something like that. I think, but it's true because his plans are for us to prosper, right? To give us an expected end.
SPEAKER_01I believe that God he wants us to live a life of blessing, and he doesn't want us to live in stress and anxiety and fear and grief and like all those things. He wants us to be blessed, he loves us, he does, and sometimes we make problems ourselves, to be honest, and we make things like bigger than they are. Sometimes he does put us through things and he does it all to show us and learn. So, and then we all we like realize at the end, we're like, man, that actually made sense. Like, God knew what he was doing, and I know that he's working. You mentioned like even it can be really hard, like whenever you're going through a hard season or wilderness or pain, like it really can, but he will satisfy. He will satisfy, he will be the river in the desert, living water, living water, not stagnant, but always moving. He really is always working, and like that's something that I've been really dwelling on because it's like anytime I have a rough patch or rough season, or like a lot of things going on, a lot of my plate, a lot of my mind, like just busy, just things, you know, not always going the way I want them to, and then it kind of weighs on your mind, like you were talking about. He says, Come to me, all ye that are weary, and he will give you rest and and he will make a way, he he always will. So we just have to be faithful and we have to be steadfast because God does have a plan through all of it. We just have to trust him. And I think the best piece of advice that you could give anyone that's going through something like that is to be faithful in prayer because like prayer and talking to the Lord has gotten me through some really hard times, even like recently, and just knowing that like the day is over, I haven't had a good day, I'm feeling heavy, I'm feeling burdened, and I'm just feeling sad sometimes. I just know that I can go talk to the Lord and I'm back to feel better. And if you if you just try the Lord and if you just try him and just like go talk to him whenever you're feeling that way, instead of going to get a fix, instead of going to treat yourself and like have therapy or retail therapy instead of trying to go get a dopamine fix or whatever when you're sad, if you like would actually just try him and go talk to him, he will fulfill you so much more and he will satisfy those things that you're dealing with and you're upset with. And I'm just like, I wish that I could portray that more to people because it's impacted my life so much, and I'm so grateful for God's strength and his goodness.
SPEAKER_03Yes. For those difficult times and seasons, like you said, it's important to be faithful and be steadfast, and just being submitted overall, it might look really rough, it might feel like everything is falling apart. You might feel like you don't know what to do, what decision to make, what next step to take. But being submitted and being humble unto God and unto your leaderships, listen to what they have to say. Don't ignore it, don't think that your ways are best because they're not. Go to your leadership. If you don't even want to go to your leadership, you're like, I don't want to do that. Then that's that's a problem. That's when we really have to analyze why, you know. I always, you know, we're both PKs. So anytime somebody tries to come to me and tell me something, I'm like, have you talked to Pastor yet? Because I'm not pastor. Yeah. Like, honestly, I love you, but I'm not your pastor.
SPEAKER_00I love you, Kookie.
SPEAKER_03And and I'm like, if you want to make a hardcore decision or you're thinking about making a decision and haven't gone to your pastor yet, gone to God either, but most of you know, pastor, that's your shepherd. If you're trying to make a a decision and you think it's okay to do it without your pastor's permission or approval or even just talking to him about it, I think that's you already know the answer is gonna be no.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_03You shouldn't be doing that anyways. That's out of the will of God.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Because if you already know what if I go tell pastor or if I go tell this, they're gonna tell. Yeah, then okay, why are you doing it? Yeah. What's your intention? What's your heart posture? Yeah, even if they're not right. So I think, and you know, that's that's where your humility, the humility of Christ needs to kick in. Because I mean, they love you, your pastoral leadership, they love you and they care for you. And God has placed them over your life for a reason. There is a reason. So when you are going through a problem or situation, don't be scared to go to that authority that God has placed over your life. They're there to guide you, they're there to help you.
SPEAKER_01To sum it up, submission is important. It's a lifestyle, like you said, it's a way of life, it's a heart posture, it's a mindset. Honestly, it's everything. To be submitted is the way that God can use you, God can bless you, that you can be, you know, you can kill your flesh. Like being submitted is very, very important. And we should never we should never find ourselves in a place where we are too good to submit or we are too much. We are too we have too much going on to submit. I think submission is very, very important and holy and it's godly, it's of God. So everything that we've said, I think has been has been very good. And that has been a topic that's been on my mind. I also feel like the Lord has been teaching me a lot about submission this year. So I'm glad that we were able to talk about this. I think it's very good.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I'm glad we made it through. We made it through without cracking up.
SPEAKER_01I know we it got kind of good there. Low key. I kind of got heavy good. I kind of got a little heavy fan. I was about to start crying.
SPEAKER_03Dang.
SPEAKER_01Low key. Zang. Zang. Low key. I feel I feel like it was for real.
SPEAKER_02I feel it right now. I feel like I could feel like I could really just, you know.

I hope it kind of breaks your heart and it helps you examine yourself and if you're being submitted in areas of your life and if there's some work to do there, because God will definitely honor that.
SPEAKER_03Yes. And He'll give you the grace to go through it. You just gotta humble yourself and go to the altar.
