hello everyone and welcome to fly a queer haikyuu podcast. My name is rainbow, they she and I'm m she her. And today we are going to talk about season two, episode eight, illusionary hero. Who is this hero and what is the illusion? We'll find out very shortly. Yes, but first we have something very, very important to talk about. It's spooky season. Y'all, spooky season is here. It's our christmas baby. That's fucking right. I, I love a spooky season. We're recording this episode the day before the autn equinox and it is coming out the last day of September, right before we enter October.
em
00:45
Today is the 21st of September. Do you remember the 21st night of September? No, but I am very looking forward to saying goodbye to this smer, this hot shit smer, and saying hello to fall. We live in California. We are very much embracing the cooling down of the weather.
rainbow
01:06
Yes, yes, I think we're getting a little bit of a spike this weekend, but I think things are going to start cooling down officially. I think once we get into October we're going to have some really nice days and, honestly, we just and we love Halloween.
em
01:19
You know how in winter they'll call it fall spring, where it gets a little warm and then it gets cold again. It was getting cool and then it was like a week of a hundred again, or it was getting hot again, and I've coined the term smer's death rattle oh, I love that.
rainbow
01:33
I was just calling it fake fall. But smer's death rattle is metal as fuck. Right, I'm gonna use that. Yeah, don't steal it . Yeah, well, I'm stealing it, but no, yeah, and I mean speaking death rattles. We're getting into the spookiness. We have some movies lined up we're gonna watch. I think this weekend we're watching American Psycho.
em
01:52
I fucking I didn't watch that movie until last year with you and I immediately loved it, so much.
rainbow
01:58
Listen, american Psycho is a classic. It stars Christian Bale classic. It stars christian bale. It's written and directed by women. It's based on a book written by a gay man, but the movie is really, really good. It is like it's a thriller, a little bit of a horror, I would say, but it's like. I mean, m is not the kind of person who likes gore or like gratuitous violence, and this is a movie that I think in another writer and director's hands could have gone that way, but it's just, I mean I almost I hate to use the word tasteful, but it was tasteful murder.
em
02:30
It's tasteful murder. It has one of my favorite lines Don't just look at it, eat it.
rainbow
02:34
Yes, oh, if you know, you know Love that line. But you know, I'll probably throw an interview with a vampire at some point. Maybe the Lost Boys at some point maybe the lost boys, we'll do the blair witch project.
02:47
maybe a little, just a little hocus pocus. you know some fun movies, but if you have any recommendations, like if there's any movies you love to watch every spooky season, please let us know. thrillers, horror, I like gore, I like fucked up shit. So if you have something really scary to send our way, we want to know what are you watching this spooky season and we? You know we can't promise we'll check out every title, but we're definitely interested any tv shows. Arcane season 2 is coming out in november and I'm so fucking stoked anyway, I digress all right.
03:16
Moving on to our housekeeping, we have a shout out for one of our listeners sushi, sushi, sushi. She is a Kuroosuki lover, so of course we wanted to shout her out in this episode. She asked to be shouted out here she's pretty great and she said in her email that she doesn't have any friends who watch Haikyuu and ship the characters. So I'm really glad that you were able to find this podcast and have people you can talk to about that, because I know I would be going insane if I didn't have Twitter and M and all my friends to talk about these gay boys with.
03:49
I hope you enjoy this episode. Sushi, I hope we do your Kurosuki well.
em
03:54
Well, without further ado, shall we get. It's your turn for the recap.
rainbow
03:57
I feel like I've talked so much already, but yes, I'll do my recap. What can we do? Three, two, one. It's time for Tsukiyama. Tragic Backstory. Yamaguchi gets bullied by kids in middle school but freakishly tall Tsukishima is there to save the day. Fast forward to the present day and it's Tsukishima who needs saving from his own traa and fear of failure After being reminded that all he needs is pride.
em
04:23
Tsuki asks the senpais from other schools why they care so much about volleyball. This is like the quintessential tsukiyama episode, really.
rainbow
04:26
It really is like there's. I think there's other episodes where there's moments, but this episode is really all about them. Like do we even see kageyama? No, I don't even remember seeing kageyama. Like Hinata has like a little moment because he's the main character, but it is so much about Tsukishima and Yamaguchi and I, and we get to see how they met and became friends. We get to understand where Tsukishima part of Tsukishima's attitude comes from.
em
04:51
We start with a flashback. Yamaguchi is being bullied for being small and cute. I guess the kids call him Freckleface and I feel very vindicated in my whole freckle argent. Once again, as you should Listen, I'll admit it. I was wrong and I wrote too like because, yeah, they're pushing him down for being small or whatever, and I was like this is how you know childhood bullying is such bullshit, because childhood bullies will come after things that you should actually be proud of. I'll never forget. A boy in third grade told me my hair looked like throw up, my hair looks like the setting sun on an August evening.
rainbow
05:21
I don't think y'all understand. Em has gorgeous coppery locks. It is thick, it is beautiful. I am obsessed with Em's hair and that boy only said that because he was intimidated by your beauty.
em
05:35
That's really what it comes down to, and it's so horrible because bullying really sticks with you. But a lot of times it's just self-projection or like they like what they're picking on. So those boys were like, like you look submissive and breedable and they push him down. And who walks by? But Tsukishima who?
rainbow
05:50
is twice the size of these other kids. He is so tall in this.
em
05:56
Every time they showed him in middle, in elementary or middle school and like compared to the other kids around him, I'm like you're a freak and I think they're supposed to be like in third grade or something at this point and they think he's in sixth grade and also he's wearing this little moon hoodie, which is really cute, and I immediately birthed the headcanon that Suki loved Sailor Moon as a child and it's like his secret love, because the moon hoodie was just really giving me Sailor Moon vibes.
rainbow
06:19
I love that.
em
06:20
Yes.
rainbow
06:21
I also always think of which Tsukishima, which I think would be fun and we get to see like, we see the reaction that Yamaguchi has to Tsukishima, because, like Tsukishima, like I don't, it's interesting. I'd love to. I wish we had more interiority from him here, because it's like what it like? Why, what is he doing? Like, why is he intervening here? Like? Is he just like? Is he just like these kids have no right to bully this other kid because they're shitty and I'm gonna call them out for it? Or is he in his own Tsukishima way, like really trying to save Yamaguchi and is like he doesn't deserve that?
em
06:54
is he like wow, I think that kid is submissive and breedable and he shouldn't be made fun of it's hard to tell with tsuki like I'd like to think that he was trying to defend Yamaguchi in his own way, but I think it was more just about making fun of the bullies because he is.
rainbow
07:08
That's one thing I like about this is because, like, so much of this episode is showing like why suki shima doesn't try very hard in volleyball, yeah, but like, don't get confused. Like he's always been a cunt, like that, that's always been with him. It's just informed by the traa we find out about in this episode. Like he's always been a bitch and I I stand him for it. And so we have Yamaguchi really looking up to Tsukishima as a hero and like I was like I have to go to ao3 right now because like Yamaguchi is, like I always thought Tsukishima was so cool and like I oh, I didn't, I never even knew if he meant I was lame, just like the bullies were, but like he's so clearly like immediately, like wow, this kid is amazing.
em
07:49
Look at how tall he is. He's so tall and he brushes off the bullies with a laugh and he's not scared of them.
rainbow
07:53
Because they, yeah, they try to like make fun of his glasses and he's like okay, whatever, which that?
em
07:58
is the approach to bullies.
rainbow
08:00
Yes, he does handle it very well, yeah, don't give them anything, just ignore them, because what they want is to rile you up. So we leave that flashback and we go back to karasuno about to start individualized practice at the training camp and Tsukishima is on his not gonna try bullshit, as always. Yeah, he, like you know he's about to get roped into it because tanaka's like nah, man, we, we're doing the synchronized attack, you need to be here. And then enoshita comes in and is like hey, actually I want to help.
em
08:25
And Tsukishima uses it as an excuse to get away and he's so annoyed at like he's still thinking like this is just a club, like why are you guys trying so hard?
rainbow
08:33
but you can really see the facade slipping because usually he's like very apathetic, very like whatever blase, like it's just a club where you're trying so hard. But you can see the anger in his face yeah, and this is when we get flashback time.
em
08:46
We go back again to his childhood days and we meet his older brother, who is quite a good volleyball player in middle school and is gearing up to go to karasuno because at this point it is the powerhouse we know of, and coach Ukai, grandpa Ukai, is at the helm. So you know, that's where he wants to go and be strong, and kei is very, very excited for him. Kei is so cute he looks.
rainbow
09:07
I love him. I love elementary school him, particularly when it comes to his brother, because he just looks so adorable. He's so excited and you can see that he really looks up to Akitaru.
em
09:17
It's definitely the most and of course he's a child, but it is the most earnest we've ever seen, sugi, yes. And also there's a really cute moment where and it's because we kind of have this montage of he goes off to Karasuno and when he comes home from one of the games, he comes home to his mom and he's like, and it's such a like, it's giving such like afterschool sitcom, this little moment. But I just have to note it because I just love again like Haikyuu's relationship with food, because he's just with the mom. He's like hey, mom, I need three meals again tomorrow. And she's like, of course, dear, high in protein and low in fat, you got it, but that you got to fuel yourself with the food baby.
rainbow
09:50
I know I love that moment too and I clocked that as well because I was like, oh, here we go with the food thing and then we have, and again, is this what leads to Tsukishima not wanting to eat too much Because he's like no, I mean, I want you know, we'll get into it. We haven't gotten there yet. I'm getting ahead of myself. I like getting to see them practice together. Akita Ryu is clearly like teaching Kei about stuff. He's like teaching him about bping, like receiving, and how, like you really use your whole body. It's a lot of it is in your legs, You're not swinging your arms and in the manga.
em
10:20
I feel like it just stresses even more about how, like volleyball is the thing that really bonds them together. It's what they talk about all day long, like that is the thing for them.
rainbow
10:29
Yeah, and I think you know, as I am a younger sibling, and it really is special when you have something like that that connects you to your older sibling and you can like, because you know sometimes older siblings like they're like whatever, I don't really want to be around you. You're, they were like whatever, I don't really want to be around you, you're lame, and made her younger siblings feel like that all the time, I'm sure, as the oldest, yeah, but it is so special when you have that connection with them and you can talk about it with them and they like, want you to be around and Akita seems like a really good older brother he is, and I think it's why he does what he does.
em
11:00
So now we're kind of getting the sense that something is off. You know we're skipping ahead. He's at karasuno. He's coming home tired from practices, talking about how hard it is. As time goes on, suki's kind of poking him for more with more questions. He wants to come to a game and he's like no, you'll make me nervous if you come, so you can't come. And like he's asking like what's your position? And he kind of pauses like you can tell something is not, maybe, maybe karasuno is not going very well for him yeah, but enoki, true is.
rainbow
11:25
You know he's dodging questions. He's kind of I don't know if it's an outright lie or if it's more of, uh like a lie of omission and just letting Tsukishima believe what he wants to believe and this is also where we see, you know Tsukishima, we know he's on. I think in the dub they call it like the boy scout volleyball team oh yeah, they just say it's like the youth team, yeah, which I don't. I don't know why they.
em
11:43
I was like I think you could have just said youth team in the dub, but whatever, and this is where we have Yamaguchi, who is like watching from the doorway, yes, and, and sugi walks by and so he doesn't remember Yamaguchi from the moment. Yamaguchi kind of has to remember, remind him, which is embarrassing. But he also, Yamaguchi, like the basketball and soccer guys, were scary. This seemed safer, aka. This was more gay friendly. But also in the manga he has a thought bubble of like I have to join a sport so I can get strong.
12:16
So actually which I thought was an interesting like context clue of like, oh, like, this is why he's here, so he's not getting bullied so much. They don't really like say that in the anime.
rainbow
12:27
That's interesting. No, I really like that insight and I kind of wondered. I was like do we think that maybe Yamaguchi figured out that Tsukishima played volleyball and that's why he? That's one of the reasons he picked that sport, because he was like, well, that cool kid who stopped those bullies plays this game. And also he was really cute and I want to spend more time with him.
em
12:43
That's my headcanon. This moment is so funny because Suki kind of brags about his older brother to Yamaguchi and when Yamaguchi's like all starry-eyed in reaction, he gets super blushy.
rainbow
12:55
Yes, I love it so much. I love that we get to see how the childhood friends met and became childhood friends. They're really adorable, and I do. I want to make a note here about sub versus dub, because I don't know how it sounds in the sub but in the dub they have the regular voice actors for the characters just do kind of like a slightly higher pitched version and it just doesn't sound like. It just doesn't sound right. It doesn't really sound different enough Like. It definitely sounds like somebody who has gone through puberty, but I kind of also understand if they didn't want to have to, like, pay other vas to come in and do like child voices, but it just I did kind of like rub me the wrong way.
13:36
I was like I maybe I'll go back and like watch this in the sub and see if that feels better to me did you have any? Did you notice at all?
em
13:43
the voices didn't bother me. I thought they were suited well, and I don't know if it's the same va, or if it's different, but I feel like I always like how the sub handles, like the younger versions of themselves, like it doesn't just, it's not just like a higher pitch, like it does sound like a kid and I felt like they did a good job with that, with like Hinata in middle school and stuff in the beginning, so, but again it could be like we cannot afford to bring in two more people to voice these children.
rainbow
14:06
I have a note here that like we definitely see the seeds of who Tsukishima will become in these flashbacks. He's got a smart mouth and a quick wit.
em
14:14
I was going to say you were saying how he's always been a cunt. When he's talking to his in one of the conversations he has with his brother they talk about receiving, and then his brother talks about how volleyball is a game of connection, he should get along with the other kids and he kind of says like are you still having trouble getting along with the other kids?
rainbow
14:29
And Tsukishima's like no, I'm fine, I'm doing great. And Kitaru clocks that immediately and is like no you're not?
em
14:35
Yeah, no, he's never been a team player.
rainbow
14:39
Yeah, and so, and I think the reason I, karasuno, and another kid comes up and is, like my brother plays for karasuno too and like he's a wing spiker and you know, and he's kind of like challenging suki because he's like my brother's the ace and this kid's like no, he's not the ace, is some second year like your brother's, not the ace at all. and you can kind of see that like suki shima, like being like. It kind of reminds me of like him, like trying to like. Yeah, I don't know, what am I trying to say here. It's like you can see that like he did, like he doesn't suffer fools and like he doesn't, he's not gonna like, he's not gonna just like accept what this kid is telling him.
15:18
And he's like gonna stand up for his brother, and then do we go right into that? We continue with the flashback, right, like I don't think we go back.
em
15:25
Yeah, and it's just side note, it's two years later when he asks Yamaguchi to go to this game, because now his brother's a third year and it would be his last chance to see him. So he hasn't seen him for all of Karasuno. He's kept him away with. This excuse of you make me nervous. So they decided to go to the last game. And that's when they have that conversation you get the feeling like, oh, something is not right here. So then they're at the game and, lo and behold, his brother is not a starter, the bench, he's in the stands cheering them on like a cuck. He's in the stands like a cuck.
15:56
That would traatize me too. No, but it is, it's so horrible. And that kid from before, it's funny, he's there. And he's like see, I told you like kishima's not there's. No, it's that ace guy. And Yamaguchi is so sweet, he likes stan. He's like yeah, we, we can tell. And but that kid is also's like yeah, my brother never got to start either. Yeah, because Karas is such a powerhouse, they have such a huge.
16:16
Someone says they have basically a caste system and it's super hard to really break in unless you're very good. And it is just heartbreaking, like you see his spirit, sugi's spirit, like die in his eyes and then his brother's face really breaks my heart because, as the older sibling, like I don't know if I would have chosen to lie about this for years and years. I don't think that's really the healthy choice. But like, clearly he knew that this was what bonded him to his brother and his brother really looked up to him and he didn't want to disappoint and he was so close to getting away with that. This is the last game. And then to like, oh, it breaks my heart a little bit.
rainbow
16:46
It really is heartbreaking and I think they do such a good job of animating it, and I'd be interested to see how they handled it in the manga, because in the anime you kind of like so they're at the game and you're kind of seeing through Tsukishima's eyes, where he's looking down at the court and he's like that's not my brother, that's not my brother. He's like so confused, and then, and then I think the kid's like talking to him and I think that's when the kid from his, his class says something about like oh yeah, that that second year down there they call him the tiny giant, and and I it's so crazy that he's a second year and he's already the ace. But then you hear karasuno, you hear people like cheering for them in the stands, and that's when he looks up and they make eye contact and it is.
em
17:27
It feels silly almost how intense it is may I, you may, okay, because this is a whole thing in the fandom, right, like we and I'm always joking, I think you are too and we say like, oh, his traa, like this is such a db traa backstory whatever. And people go back and forth about this. I found I'm going to rip this off entirely off a TikTok that I found, but I thought that they worded it so perfectly. I think you agree with this too, so I'm just gonna read it really quick.
17:52
In regards to the overdramatic backstory that Suki gets saddled with, it's never presented as a traatic backstory. It's supposed to explain why he is so hesitant to put as much effort into volleyball as everyone else on the team. His brother lied for three years specifically about the reason Kei looked up to him in the first place. He was a child and the person he idolized wasn't the person he thought he was. Obviously he's going to internalize the idea that, no matter what he puts into volleyball, there is still the potential that it won't amount to anything but shame and pain, and the more effort is put in, the more failure hurts. It makes perfect sense that he wouldn't understand why everyone is so willing to put their all into volleyball, even when it doesn't guarantee them results yeah, I think so.
rainbow
18:28
Yeah, it's not like it's not a big traumatic backstory, but it does. It may, and I think it makes so much sense. And again, like as somebody who has an older sibling who you, you know, you grow up looking up to them and then when you realize that there may be not who you thought they were, that is heartbreaking, and especially for a kid who's in middle school or is he in elementary school when this happens. At that point they're in like fifth grade, I think. Yeah, so that's around that age, but still it's still like, still like pre-puberty, like still so young and still like he's. So much of his identity is being shaped and this is a big, this has a big effect on him.
em
19:04
I have to. I said I have to imagine. It's kind of like finding out santa isn't real. It's like the first big again illusionary. It's kind of like his first illusion being totally shattered. In English class we would have really coined this the loss of innocence moment for Tsuki.
rainbow
19:17
Yes, it absolutely was. I also wanted to comment that at some point we see two Aoba Johsai players behind Tsukiyama while they're watching that game and they're kind of commenting on the game, because some things never change. You still have Aoba Johsai watching Karasuno.
em
19:34
I also think it was funny that Suki because after this moment we go back to present day and Suki is walking along angsty and he blames the blind drive that everyone has Like he makes a comment of like that is what made my brother lie to me, and I thought that that was kind of interesting too. He was like this kind of like stupid passion is what makes you do stupid things. Yeah, so now we're back at the present. Yamaguchi's running after Suki. He's like Suki.
rainbow
19:58
Yeah, he is bounding toward him and Tsukishima's like what the hell is going on. Yeah, yeah, I love that Yamaguchi finds the courage to tell Tsukishima that he's being lame. He's like you're always so cool, but right now you're being really lame and you can tell that he's struggling with this and he's like afraid to do this.
em
20:21
Yeah, no, it's never. The dynamic has never had to come to this. Sugi's never really needed this push before, but Yamaguchi loves his friend and he can see that he's not doing his best, yeah.
rainbow
20:26
Well, one of the lines he says in the dub that I really liked is why do you always set limits for yourself?
em
20:36
Yes, he's like why do you draw these lines in the sand that you think you can't cross? It reminds me of that like allegory of the elephant who is chained to a little like wooden thing, but it could easily break away, but just doesn't know it.
rainbow
20:42
Yes, oh, I really love that and I love what. So what Tsukishima says to Yamaguchi is something along the lines of like why does it like? Why does it matter? Like, even whatever stage we go to, even if we make it to nationals, we might still lose. Like, eventually we're going to lose.
em
20:58
It's such a like ridiculous mindset to me, because, yeah, he's like. I mean, you know, even if you make it to the world level, you're going to lose at some point. Yeah, with that mindset, why would anyone do anything ever? Yeah.
rainbow
21:07
Well, and I like that. It's really a nice foil to Kagehina, specifically because you see Tsukishima like it. You know it shows like Japan and then it shows the world and for Kagehina they look at the world stage and think, yeah, I'm going to get there, I'm going to be the best. They've both lost before and Hinata especially has been told that he'll, he's probably never going to get there. They don't let that stop them. Meanwhile, Tsukishima saw what happens when losing crushes someone's spirit and he's afraid of that happening to him, so he won't even bother. He's like, why would I even bother doing that?
em
21:41
I don't want to end up curled up on my bedroom floor crying like my brother, yeah, and when he says that Yamaguchi thinks about the shame he felt in flubbing his serve, and in the manga he also just thinks about all these other moments where, like you know, the team kind of just pulled themselves together to, to, to gomboree and that's when he grabs suki by the collar, pulls him and says what else do you?
rainbow
22:01
need but pride. Yes, yeah, I think in that, which I love that. I love that specific wording of it in the dub. He says it's our sense of pride. What more do you need? Which I think is a mouth flip flap thing, and I think it, I think it still works. And I said you know, the ship is good when one of them grabs the other by the front of the shirt to yell at them.
em
22:20
That's a sign. Yeah, seriously, he's panting. The moon comes from the clouds and shines upon his face. It's very it.
rainbow
22:28
I was waiting for a kiss, to be honest yeah, well, and you can tell that Yamaguchi is like not sure how Tsukishima is going to react. He's like so sure that Tsukishima is going to be mad about this, mad at him about this, and Tsukishima instead is like wow, I, you, you, finally.
em
22:43
You finally got to this point where you're the cool one this backhanded ass compliment where he's like I never thought I'd see the day you're cool, cool. Like yeah, this is your boyfriend, I don't know what you're talking about. And to Suki's credit, he says well, that sounds better than my worn out thought process, but I'm still not convinced. I have to check something.
rainbow
23:02
Yes, and so he goes off and then we go back to the gym with Karasuno. Yeah, because Suga watched Tsukishima leave when inoshita showed up he saw that he was like leaving and he wasn't going to practice the synchronized attack, and so Suga's kind of said something to Daichi. It's like shouldn't we go and like talk to suki shima, and Daichi's like no, I think suki shima is gonna be okay. I've known since that first three-on-three match that he has like the drive to win. And it flashes back to that moment where suki shima takes his sweatshirt off and he's ready to take down Kagehina.
23:32
And then Daichi says I mean, that being said, if Tsukishima talked about wanting to quit, I would beg him to stay. Like they know that he is an important part of their team and that they need him. And but Daichi also knows that they're all on their own path and they're all on their own path to to growth, and he knows that Tsukishima is just, he needs to do what he needs to do. It's a very kind of like it's when parents like know that a child needs to learn a lesson and it's like well, you know, I'll be here for them to guide them, but ultimately they have to learn that lesson on their own and Suga's like okay.
em
24:02
Yes, I love Daichi, Like he just has so much implicit trust in his first years. It very much reminds me the same thing where he knew that KageHina would be okay. He's letting them have their fight and he trusts that suki. And he's like I clocked him as a fake. I don't give a fucker from day one, don't worry, he'll come to play and I just like I don't know. I love that calm approach.
rainbow
24:21
Yes, yes, absolutely. It's one of the things that shows that, like, Daichi is such a good captain and was such a good pick for for karasuno, and then so this is commercial break, yes, and then we come back and we see I think this is when Yamaguchi is coming back into the gym and, you know, Hinata notices that he comes back and I think, like even Yachi at some point had said like oh, where did Yamaguchi go? And I think Hinata said like oh, I think he needs, I think he's gonna go and talk to Tsukishima, because Hinata just is so emotionally intelligent and knows immediately what's going on with these friends he's like I know what it's like to be fighting with your volleyball boyfriend yeah, and Hinata's so adorable because I think is it Yachi who says something about like Tsukishima and like Hinata's like, don't worry.
25:04
Like Tsukishima always tries to be cool and so of course he's gonna work hard at being good at volleyball, because volleyball is the coolest. And I do wish we had Kageyama there hearing that, because I could imagine him just like nodding, like yes, yes, of course, volleyball is the coolest. And like obviously Tsukishima, even though he's a bastard, he wants to be cool, so he's gonna be good at volleyball. Like I just love how like simple Hinata is and it does.
em
25:26
It makes sense and it does align with suki's way of like looking at the world. So then we go to Suki and he's approaching the BFOS and we get our famous oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah.
rainbow
25:36
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah.
em
25:37
And it's really interesting because Suki is very polite with his approach. He asked them like and it's so funny because he starts this hypothetical of like all right, you guys are a decent team, you might make it to nationals. Thank you very much. And Mother Akaashi is like it's a hypothetical relax. But he asked them he's like how can you get so basically motivated when it's just a club? And they're like I don't know what you mean by just a club, and then Bokuto goes to his whole like spiel.
rainbow
26:05
I have in my notes that Bokuto gives Tsukishima a monster look. Because, he opens his, he like has his eyes closed for a second. He's like like right before he gives his explanation and he opens his eyes and it really like affects Tsukishima and he's like whoa, it's like that aura that the monsters have and Bokuto is like giving that he asks Tsuki a very simple question.
em
26:24
He's like do you think volleyball is fun? And so he's like not really. And Bokuto's like is that because you suck?
rainbow
26:32
Yes, I love the way he's just like oh, is that because you suck at it?
em
26:36
But he makes a really good point and he says he's like I'm a third year I've been to nationals but I only recently started to find volleyball fun. And he talks about how his cross spike started to get blocked so he had to practice straights and once he got that he could blow past them. And that feeling, that feeling of like beating the guy in front of you and having that quote-unquote volleyball moment, is what makes it worth it to BoKuroo.
rainbow
26:56
And he tells Suki once you have that moment, you'll get it and he says something kind of towards the end there, where it's like, once you have that moment, who cares about the future? As long as you have a chance at winning the next game, nothing else matters.
em
27:08
I feel like BoKuroo kind of presents the exact opposite, thinking that Suki's had which is like why try if you're gonna fail? And Bokuto's kind of like well, why wouldn't you try, you might have some fun.
rainbow
27:18
Yeah, you might not fail. That's the thing is, like you're not guaranteed to fail. You could also succeed. Like what if you just got good? Yeah, what if you just practice? Yeah, and I really love it. And there is like a moment I have to talk about which I love because it's a little bit. It's before Bokuto's big speech about your volleyball moment. Tsukishima is saying something along the lines of, like you know, like you're focusing so much on this club, but when you could be focusing on your studies. And Bokuto is just like I don't get this. And Kuro's like I don't know, maybe he's the kind of guy, maybe he's just the kind of guy who cares about his grades Not that you would know anything about that and then Bokuto's like hey, I've been doing better, I got a 47 on my trick test. And Kuro's like going to say something like like oh, is that an accomplishment? And then, like Tsukishima like says to Akaashi, like should we stop them? And Akaashi's like they'll finish, they'll get over it eventually.
em
28:08
That is a really good replacement for the sub, because the sub is all about this like name pun. That way we wouldn't understand, because I think it's very much about the Japanese language, because he like says something and they're like oh, that sounds like a person's name, and they go back and forth about how it sounds like a person's name, but it's so clearly like a Japanese specific joke.
rainbow
28:27
So I see that they just completely did something different okay the dub just made, because I think they do cut away and you don't even see them. But you can tell that Bokuto is like pissed at Kuro. He's like I'm not an idiot and Kuro's like you're kind of an idiot and this is just like a great moment. And then I think at the end the very last thing that we get is Bokuto kind of saying like once you have a moment like that's when you'll fall in love with volleyball.
em
28:49
Yes, and then he's like all right, I answered your question. Now do blocks for me?
rainbow
28:53
Yeah, I love these senpai so much. I totally OK. So I'm going to take a little moment to talk about Kurosuki, because we really see them I think in the last episode. Yeah, I feel like we talked about them a little bit last episode.
29:03
Yeah, but I like I do see people who ship all four of them K, Bokuto, suki and Akaashi together and I totally get that. I think the dynamic works because, like Akaashi and Tsukishima are the two like they're very good at, like they're they're pretty quiet, pretty blunt, but will also like say some shit that'll like make the others angry and like Bokuto and Kuro are like the loud, obnoxious ones and I do think that they're like a fun little OT for yeah, yeah, and so then I think we go back to Karasuno again. It's the next day.
em
29:37
right, oh, is it the next day? Well, I don't know. I kind of didn't write as much detail, so I'm kind of looking.
rainbow
29:41
I don't know if it's the next day or if it's the same thing, but we have Yamaguchi going to Hinata and asking if he's, if Hinata sees Tsukishima as a rival and he seems surprised when Hinata says, of course, of course he's my rival, he has everything. I don't and I'm not going to get left behind.
em
29:58
Tsuki's the only one who thinks he's not a rival to Hinata, literally.
rainbow
30:02
Literally he's the only one. It's that self-esteem thing he's like. Well, no, I could never be a rival to Hinata, and Hinata's like you are my greatest rival after kageyama.
em
30:15
Yeah, seriously. because there's only one person in that number one slot. Obviously we all know who it is. And then the next day we have practice games and suki is trying yeah, I think, I think before.
rainbow
30:23
I think before we leave to go to the next day. I think that's when we have Yachi explaining the moon, the moon and sun thing with suki hina oh because suki, because she's like oh, it's like the moon versus the sun, because suki shiman's name means moon island and Hinata's name means uh, sunshine, and so we have that which you know, I love a little moon, sun symbolism I'm not mad about it, and I think it makes a lot of sense for their characters and their personalities, because Hinata shines so brightly and like the moon is like it's reflecting the sun's light, and so that kind of really shows Tsukishima's inferiority.
31:00
He feels like, well, no, I'm not the sun, I'm not shining brightly, like all I'm doing is like I'm just reflecting the rays that Hinata is showing. So now we're at the next day. We have a little KiyoYachi moment where, playing against FuKurooda and Bokuto's coming with his, his spikes, and so Ukai says something of like, hey, you know, don't try to kill every single block, like that's not going to work with this guy. And so kyoko explains the difference between a soft block and a kill block. So a soft block, which is what they need to use on Bokuto, is as long as you get a hand on it, you can slow the moment and it's easier for a receiver to get it. And this is a really cute moment where Yachi goes a kill block you mean, kill is in murder and Kyoko goes, maybe with this little smile on her face, and I was like Kyoko listens to the goriest true crime podcast and loves psychological thrillers.
em
31:52
Her little smile is funny because in the sub, you know, they call it kill. So she says kill as in cross, which is the Japanese word for kill, and Kyoko's like yes, and you're like she's giving Kageyama actually in this moment.
rainbow
32:04
I just love it so much. That's just like a little bit of like a hint of her personality that we don't usually get to see and I was like, oh, you're a little bad, aren't you, Kyoko? You're writing weird fan fiction, aren't you, Kyoko? Oh, I know she is. She loves Pennywise the Clown. Sure she does. Tell me she doesn't, yeah. And then this is where everyone is shook, because Tsukishima contributes to the strategy.
em
32:29
I love the way everybody notices the BFOs. Notice Nak contributes to the strategy. I love the way everybody notices the BFOS. Notice Nekomata is like oh, the troublesome bird is coming out of his shell, because he, like, asks a question to Ukai about the blocking and then he thinks back on Kuroo's advice about how to put the strength in his fingers, blah, blah, and he's able to. He basically forces Bokuto to do a feint instead because of how his hands are, and Akaashiashi, of course, immediately says, oh, BoKuro ran away.
rainbow
32:55
Yeah, I love it. The dub is so great. Another wonderful moment, because he's like you're not supposed to run away from it and BoKuroo's like I didn't run away from it. I dodged it, Gracefully, I might add.
em
33:06
You know I'm on BoKuroo's side. I mean, he got it over. Leave him alone, we get it. You want to kiss him? Why don't you leave him? That's, that is what it is. Akaashi has to tease him because he's like, well, I have to he, I want him to talk to me, and also with someone like Bokuto. You probably do need to continually tear him down to keep him at a level.
rainbow
33:24
Yeah, absolutely you don't want him to get too big for his britches and Kuroosuki moment.
em
33:28
Kuroo is very pleased to see suuki shutting down.
rainbow
33:31
Bokudo, yes, yeah he loves it and we get to see. I love when Tsukishima does his blocks and he's just got that like blank look on his face. But he is absolutely in your way, he's so scary. And then the episode ends with Tsukishima kind of throwing a challenging look Hinata's way where he's like, and Hinata clocks it and it's just so clear that Tsukishima's like yeah, you know, look out, yeah, I'm, I am a middle blocker and and and I think it's Yachi who says she's like it's the sun versus the moon, yeah, Yachi should be.
em
34:06
Uh Yachi is writing friend fiction. She should be.
rainbow
34:09
yeah, she's writing erotic friend fiction, tina Belcher style. No, I like I was like you. She could be like a novelist. Yeah, she's. She's really good at catching those things and talking about them.
em
34:20
So yeah, so that's the end of the episode For manga versus anime. The only other thing that I have to note is that the the shirt that Hinata is wearing this episode, that like blue shirt with the character on it, there's like a bonus doodle at the end of chapter 87. This goes from 87 to 89, and at the end of 87, kyoko tells Hinata oh yeah, my cousin wears that shirt, she's nine.
rainbow
34:44
I love that. Oh, and I you know we didn't really talk about this in the episode proper, but I kind of had mentioned it to you earlier and I want to talk about the title of the episode illusionary hero, kind of had mentioned it to you earlier and I want to talk about the title of the episode, illusionary hero, and how that's clearly. It is about akitaru, uh-huh, right, . But I think it also applies to Tsukishima, where for Yamaguchi, he saw Tsukishima as a hero and now through like watching him, like just be so apathetic and not even trying, that kind of shatters an illusion for Yamaguchi, which I think opens him up to being able to call Tsukishima out and have that moment and remind him of his pride. Yeah, and so I really love that. I just think that that's pretty genius and this is such a rich text yeah, no, I loved that.
em
35:27
You said that to me earlier. I thought that was really smart. Is it gay to clutch your best friend by the collar and say all he needs is his bride? I don't know, I mean if you ask me all right. So who are we doing for the character spotlight?
rainbow
35:43
oh, we gotta talk about Akaashi keiji he's so pretty, he's so pretty.
em
35:49
I was looking up one of the founding fathers of the pretty setters club, I mean like I think, is he the prettiest character those are fighting.
rainbow
35:57
That's hard, yeah, that's yeah, I don't want to try. Yeah, it's hard to say like I don't think there's anyone that holds the number one spot. It's hard, it's really hard. He just I don't know. There is something about Akaashi that's just so pretty his eyes, with his hair, with his like blank look. I get why Bokuto's obsessed with him. I love reading a Boko Aka fic where Bokuto's like. I think there's one that I read where they were roommates. They ended up being roommates and, like Bokuto says, like he's the prettiest person I've ever seen, Akaashi's kind of like if Owazami and Kageyama had a baby.
36:27
Oh my god you're so right. Yes, why are all the setters so pretty? Furudate, did you have a pretty setter, or was Furudate the setter?
em
36:37
I don't know. So it could either be projection or something else. A secret third thing.
rainbow
36:42
It's definitely projection. Yeah, so Akaashi, we love Akaashi, obviously, and we had to do him the episode after we do Bokuto, because they're a pair and they go together Like the episode after we do Bokuto because they're a pair and they go together like like true, I was trying to do the song from Grease thing, but I really fucked it up.
37:04
Oh, we go together like I don't even know what it is either. I don't either. You can cut that out. So uh, first personality from the wiki quote Akaashi is calm and composed most of the time, usually choosing not to share a wide range of emotions. He has a habit of calling people out on the foolish things they do, especially Bokuto, who he seems to be relatively close with despite their opposing personalities. Relatively close Akaashi is blunt with the things he says and often invites himself into the conversation when necessary, throwing in witty comments or responses. He is also quite polite and humble, but this could be due to the fact that he is younger than most of his teammates, as he does have a cheeky side, and I fucking, I love Akaashi. I think he's so fun. We're gonna get into his name meeting which it was a long one for this one. It's pretty interesting. So his family name Akaashi is probably a reference to Akaashi Mori FuKuroo, known as the rufous-legged owl in English Huh, okay, so you're saying he's BoKuroo's legs, pretty much.
em
38:03
Please excuse the sounds you may be hearing in the background. Our cat found a fly and she's making it everybody's problem.
rainbow
38:10
We're getting some, she's getting some free enrichment and she's gonna tire herself out. So that's his, his family name, which also refers to an owl, because they're on FuKurooda, and because Bokuto and Akaashi are soulmates, so they're both owls. we've all seen the arts of them out there, like official arts of them as these owls, and we love them. And then his given name is keiji, and keiji is a popular boy's name in japan. Am I saying that right? Keiji, keiji? That sounds good to me. It's keiji. That is not correct. Yeah, keiji is a popular boy's name in japan.
38:44
I guess there's a couple of different ways to write it, but the way that his name is written, with it, this specific kanji, it has the kanji for city and the kanji for to govern or to cure and it is likely that this is simply an attempt by the author to transcribe the sound keji to kanji and is unlikely that the literal meaning of the kanji carries any significance or meaning, although I would argue the to govern I think is interesting, considering what we find out later about Bokuto and Akaashi's relationship. Okay, moving on to his character sheet, he is the FuKuroodani academy volleyball team vice captain. Oh, yeah, which. I think I knew that, but it's like he is a second year, though he's a second year in class six, which you know. Based on Bokuto's class placement, I asse that six is a second year, though he's a second year in class six, which you know. Based on bocato's class placement, I asse that six is really high. I think that's probably the college prep but, yeah, he's the.
39:38
He's a second year and he's the vice captain, and I don't know if we ever get to see how that came about. Oh, thanks, maybe I think it makes sense for him to be bocato's vice cap and captain and explains why they're so close, and I love that. For him, his position is setter, as we know, because you know he's paired with a spiker they love to do that. His height is 182.3 centimeters, which is about 5'9, so pretty tall not quite as tall as bocato, but almost there. His birthday is december 5th, which is my best friend's birthday as well. He's a sagittarius, right yes, he is.
em
40:09
and I feel like this is the first time I'm like, yeah, you look like a sagittarius and also that's a Sagittarius right, yes, he is. And I feel like this is the first time I'm like, yeah, you look like a Sagittarius. And also that's a very good sign for BoKuroo, who is a Libra. He's a fucking Libra. Oh, I guess he's on the cusp, but whatever it works.
rainbow
40:20
Yeah, I think that makes sense and honestly thinking about it, thinking about my friend who is December 5th, I think that makes some ways yeah like seems normal on the surface but is actually kind of a weird little freak I like sagittarius.
em
40:34
People are so interesting, I do enjoy them also.
rainbow
40:37
A fire sign, right yes, ma'am, all right, I love that for Akaashi. His favorite food is nanohama with karashi mustard dressing. Mustard, not a fan of that. I should have looked up this food because I have no idea what. That is.
em
40:51
Probably something rational yeah, yeah, probably something that makes sense Something filling, yeah, and healthy.
rainbow
40:56
His current concern is that he'd like to up his physical power levels a little more.
em
41:01
We look at the parameters and they are all fours, except for power, which is three.
rainbow
41:08
Yeah, His powers are three, but his speed, his technique, his jump, his stamina, his intelligence, all fours. And yeah, he just I'm sure if he looked at this he'd be like, no, I need to have all fours, it's the world's favorite game.
em
41:21
It's who in Haikyuu. This week's scenario is inspired by a longtime fan, minty, and it's what kind of drag would these characters do? Would these characters do today we're going to be talking about, oh, skishima Yamaguchi Kuroo BoKuro Akaashi Hinata kageyama Yachi Daichi and Suga, what kind of drag would they do?
rainbow
41:40
yes, and so we got a email from minty. I think it was based on oh yeah, season one, episode 23. We talked about their, the hobbies that they would have, right, I remember this now and so they said that they have a. They called it a goofy headcanon I think it's a genius headcanon that Tsukishima does drag and they said I'm just gonna quote from their email I imagine he saw a few shows during his college years and wasn't super impressed until he saw a comedy roast. Once he realized one I can be as mean as I want and people will pay me to be mean All bets were off. It fits his snarky, quick-thinking attitude so well. He's definitely a looks queen. Doesn't lip-sync that often but hosts a show like nobody's business.
em
42:24
And we went back and forth in the replies and I said it sounds like Sugi would be a combination of Violet Chachki and Bianca Del Rio and Minty was like that's exactly who I was thinking yes, and that's from Drag Race.
rainbow
42:34
For those of you who don't know, and I mean, just look up clips of those queens. They are so good. Especially Bianca is really good at just like calling people out.
em
42:45
Yeah, bianca is the mean funny one. Violet Chachki is the skinny fashionista and I think Suki would be a good like mix of those. So to bring us to our first person, that would be Suki. Yeah, I feel like he wouldn't be messy. He'd always look good. He'd be reading Like I think other queens would be intimidated. I don't think he'd get along very well with other queens.
rainbow
43:03
No, absolutely not. I think his looks would be impeccable. I don't think he would let himself go on stage not looking as perfect and pristine as possible. I do think he'd be a little bit of the Bianca. I think he'd find a silhouette that works for him and he would. He would stick with that. I don't think we'd see a ton of variety as far as like his looks.
em
43:20
I think he'd be a very polarizing character. I think he would be a fan favorite. On Drag Race specifically yeah, next Yamaguchi. Yamaguchi is giving me like I could see an AU where, like Tsukishima is Yamaguchi's drag mom. Yeah, because I feel like Yamaguchi would be like a very sweet, wide-eyed, like baby, gay and, like you know, doesn't have a lot of money so maybe gets clocked a lot by the other queens.
rainbow
43:44
but like, yeah, like we're seeing some party city wigs. we're seeing some out like maybe, maybe we're, we're missing a corset, maybe there's no cinch, kind of thing I think her aesthetic would be really like adorable, kind of like froggy.
em
44:01
I can't think of a queen to like compare it to right now, but she'd be very sweet yes, I think, yeah, I think people would really like her.
rainbow
44:08
I think I think, you know she would like be in a show and they would like see that she's like not not doing the like the best, but they would really appreciate her. We should have thought of like songs that they should lips, that they would lip sync to as well. If you think of one for a character, throw it out there, but let's not think of one for every single one.
em
44:25
If we can, let's not force ourselves Kuroo makes me think of like raven the season two queen who's just like a beauty and like I think he would maybe rest on his beauty a little bit, but also I think he'd be like also kind of a Raja where, like he can be a body queen as well, yes, and have a lot of like good fashion looks and stuff. And I think, you know, I don't think he'd be like a comedy queen.
rainbow
44:48
I disagree. I think he would be. I think he would not do good at like scripted stuff, but I think he would be really. I think he'd be quick-witted. I think he'd be good at stuff like roasting . I think he would be good at reading . I think some. I think he would be the kind of queen who does reads that are like that go over like people's heads sometimes, like he would read you to filth but you wouldn't even know it because you don't understand the words that she's using. that kind of thing. I see that for Kuroo, yeah, and I agree like very fierce looks and I think I could see Kuroo being the kind of queen that's trying to do stuff that's very avant-garde and like very like you know, and and probably like avant-garde, but also pulling from the past and like looking at like historical examples and bringing that into the future.
em
45:36
That's what.
rainbow
45:37
I see, Hell yeah For Bokudo. Bokudo is messy but we love her.
em
45:42
I feel like Bokudo would be another like fan favorite, but I think that like she would annoy the other queens with her high energy and maybe they think she's kind of fake, fake, but that really is just how she is yeah, like if Suki, if Silky Ganache wasn't so annoying like bring Silky Ganache down like five levels yeah, and you've got Bokuto yeah, and I think she'd be the type of queen, like I think, that Bokuto would win.
rainbow
46:04
miss Congeniality, yes, yeah absolutely they would love her, everyone would love her and like, would it? Yeah, at first maybe they'd be like, I don't know, I think you're kind of like fake. But then they realize like, oh, this is just who you are and like you're too airheaded to be fake. And then and I think she would be like I think she would always cheer people up. She would never tear people down.
em
46:22
I think she would like get a little bitchy with like Kuroo or somebody I also like to think that, like, maybe she'd play with gender a little bit, because she's gonna be so bulky and stuff yeah, oh, yeah, definitely I think.
rainbow
46:32
Yeah, I think there'd be a lot of gender fuckery going on, yeah, which I love, okay Akaashi.
em
46:38
Akaashi, I just want to make another like body fashion queen, because that's the personality I get. I feel like Akaashi might be more like a pageant type, like like kind of sticking to the status quo, and then he meets BoKuro who like smashes that status quo and it pisses him off. At first he doesn't know how to deal with it, but then they make out okay, well, I have to go to ao3 right now. Um no, I definitely.
rainbow
46:58
I think Akaashi's makeup would always be on point akari and I. I see Akaashi with like the fiercest eyeliner and like they're like you know, their cheeks are always looking amazing. I think they have like Miss Fame level wigs of like they are gently wrapped in paper and placed back in their box, that kind of thing and like they always yeah, they always look amazing. Cinched waist, beautiful silhouette that's what I'm seeing. Yes, fully agree.
em
47:27
Hinata is like I feel like he'd be like a Banshee like tiny, big personality, technically has a lot of things that need work on, like, I think, his costuming. I don't think he'd be like a Vanjie like tiny, big personality, technically has a lot of things that need work on, like, I think, his costuming. I don't think he'd be the best sewer Again. He'd be funny but like with scripted stuff he struggled. Like I think he had a lot.
rainbow
47:41
like I feel like he'd be one of those queens where it's like come back next year once you've baked a little bit more, but like he's got a lot of good, like potential, yeah potential, yeah, and then I think, like outside of like drag race, just as like a working queen, I think people would definitely like they would want to see Hinata like on stage, like people would go to shows because Hinata is in the lineup.
48:00
He would be the most high energy queen yeah and he's like when he's doing his lip syncs, he's walking around like people, he's having fun with people, like you know, he is like dancing all over people. He is getting so many tips from everyone, because he's just lighting up the room, yeah. And then I know that kageyama technically wasn't in this episode really at all, but we are talking about him because we have to talk about what kind of drag he would do.
em
48:25
Looks queen looks queen for sure.
rainbow
48:27
Yeah, yeah, I feel like he's like another kind of like another violet tchotchke where, like he doesn't know how to socialize with the other queens and maybe the other queens kind of misunderstand him, but he's always, again, very immaculate, looking, expensive looking yes, very yeah, he is dripping in jewels, that sort of thing I could see like a fun show with like Hinata and kageyama, where like kageyama is the street man and Hinata is the bouquet, and like I could see them doing like a drag version of that. That would be really fun. Yeah, hell yeah, Yachi. I threw Yachi in here because we got to talk about drag kings.
em
49:01
I know, Yachi, this little, this little feminine thing, would absolutely get on stage in these like masculine outfits and kind of do these like masculine roles that you don't expect.
rainbow

yeah, I'm trying to think if there's any like particular, like songs. Oh my God. Well, just this is projection, but man that I Am from Barbie, I could see her rolling out and doing something like that. Yeah, I think she'd have like a lot of fun with it. I think she would be very timid and scared at first. I think it'd be one of those things where it's like you go out on like she's villager bee, but she can fight too and I think she would go out there and she'd really like blow people's minds and they're they wouldn't even know yeah, and.

I could see like a drag queen or drag king Yachi he would have. I'd see like a little like fake goatee. I could see him. I could see him kind of like doing like, kind of like a not quite a bossa nova persona, but kind of like a little bit of a sleazy, like sleazy guy, I don't know. The vision is visioning in my head.

I love it. Daichi, Daichi is.

He's so butch it's hard for me to imagine I know he feels more like he would be in the pit. He feels like he would be the guy who's like, running around and picking up the tips for the like he is. He and sue, like Suga, is the queen and Daichi is like the little helper who's like. He's like helping, like helping her get out of her corset at the end of the night. He's helping her d-drag. He has a little bucket and is going around after the show and like collecting all the tips from people in the world of drag race.
50:21
Specifically, he would be the pit crew he would absolutely be in the pit crew.
em
50:25
Yes, yeah, he would be, oh, pit crew, and then Suga would kind of I could see Suga also being one that's kind of like, and I always forget this bitch's name, the one who took herself off of all stars.

Oh my gosh. Yes, we talked about this, I cannot remember her name Ben Ben. Ben de la Creme. Ben de la Creme yes, yes, Suga, I could totally see as a Ben de la Creme, like a like old Hollywood 1950s style. She's wild, she's crazy, she's kooky, she's fun, but she is fucking nailing it.
em
50:56
Yes, yeah, like would be really good actually at the comedy skits and stuff like that yeah, absolutely, I kind of also see her as a little.

51:03
I could see Suga being a little bit of a sasha velour as well yeah, with being like being very artsy, being very out there nice, all right. Well, thank you, minty, for the inspiration yes, absolutely artsy, being very out there Nice, all right. Well, thank you, minty for the inspiration. Yes, absolutely, this was really fun. Anyone out there, if you have any ideas for what kind of drag you think these or other characters we didn't mention would do, please let us know. We didn't talk about Oikawa, but one day, but he would be the mother?

Do you want to restate your thing about Kida and Akaashi?
em
52:04
Oh yeah, Just that. Kida, his whole thing is about, you know, building habits day by day. And I just feel like Akaashi, with the way that his stats are pretty good and now his focus is just like upping the one that's lower. I just feel like he's that same kind of personality. I also, obviously, when we're talking about when BoKuroo says to Suki when you have your moment, this is foreshadowing the Ushijima moment.

52:26
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yeah. And bouncing off of that I have Bokuto's fall in love with volleyball moment was when he first hit that line shot successfully. And I think Akaashi's fall in love with volleyball moment was when he saw Bokuto play for the first time. Send tweet, get out of my face, that's listen. I will never get over the fact that little Akaashi, who loves to fucking, who loves to humble Bokuto, was not even planning to play in high school until he saw Bokuto what is the quote?
52:58
I had a fleeting thought that he was a star. Yeah, it was like the fleeting, yeah, like the. The fleeting thought crossed my mind that he was a star. And then Akaashi was like well, now I'm gonna go to FuKurooda, and I'm going to play volleyball so that I can be the setter for Bokuto. I'll fucking kill somebody. Also. I like that little, that little flashback to seeing Kuro talking to Suki about blocking and he's like you've got to put all your power, like insert all of your power into your fingertips, like you want your arms to go this way, like not this way. And I would love to see Kuro as the coach for Nekoma after Nekomata retires.
53:32
I just think that maybe, like I know, he goes off and does his whole JVA thing and is globetrotting and putting together things and lowering the net and I actually have no idea what he's really doing. But it's fine. I feel like Kuro like created a position for himself within the JVA? I don't know, but I would love to see him like going back and coaching Nakama. I think that'd be so much fun. I think he'd be a really good coach, anything else.

53:57
No, I think that's it. We finally learned what's been up Suki's ass this whole time. So you know, hopefully we can move forward and try a little more. Yeah, and until next time, fly high hi.
