Healing Your Acne Mindset
Trapped in the "acne hole"? You're not alone. The emotional devastation of persistent acne creates a dangerous cycle where we begin to believe we're unworthy, unlovable, and even incapable of healing. Looking in the mirror becomes a painful reminder of what we perceive as our flaws rather than our true essence - the beautiful, capable being underneath those temporary blemishes.
As someone who's personally experienced acne and helped thousands of women heal over twenty years as a naturopathic doctor, I understand how acne transforms from a physical condition to an identity crisis. When we remain stuck with acne too long, we sink into what I call a low vibrational frequency - a mindset that actively blocks our healing journey by convincing us we don't deserve better. The most troubling part? This becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Breaking free requires three powerful steps that recalibrate your nervous system and create the internal environment necessary for healing. First, recognize and create safety in your environment - a prerequisite for nervous system regulation. Second, spend twenty minutes twice daily engaged in activities that create a flow state, where you lose track of time and access the healing alpha brainwaves that children naturally embody. Finally, surround yourself with beauty in all forms - from fresh flowers to clothing that makes you feel confident - gradually elevating your vibrational frequency until you recognize your own inherent beauty again.
This journey isn't just about clear skin; it's about rediscovering who you truly are beneath the acne mindset. When you shift your perception, you change your reality, opening doors to not just physical healing but the life you're meant to live. Ready to climb out of the acne hole? Welcome to Naturopathic Beauty's Clear Skin Sessions, where we heal your acne from the inside out. Hello, beauties, and welcome to the Clear Skin Sessions. I'm Dr Stacey Shillington, naturopathic Doctor, and this podcast is all about helping you on your clear skin journey. I know what it's like to suffer with acne, and it is intense. It affects us on an emotional, a mental and a spiritual level, and sometimes acne can bring us down so far that it's really hard to climb out of the acne hole and get ourselves back. And that's what this episode is about.
Speaker 1:This episode is about how acne can deeply, deeply affect us and how it can take us to a place where we're living in a very low vibrational frequency. Now, when I'm talking about a low vibrational frequency, I'm talking about a state where you feel as though you are ugly, you feel as though you are unlovable, you feel as though you are unworthy. And acne yes, acne has the power to bring us to this place. And I see it over and over again with my patient population, and I see patients sometimes get themselves to a place where they don't even feel that they are worthy of healing. They don't believe that they can heal, they don't believe in the power of their bodies. They don't believe in the power of their beauty. They've pretty much lost it for the time being. And that's how powerful acne is. It makes us forget who we are. We look in the mirror. We don't see who we truly are at all. Instead, we're seeing blemishes, we're seeing inflammation, we're seeing things that we don't like, that we don't love, and we see this repeatedly, again and again and again. When we look into the mirror, and when we do this enough times, we actually start to believe that we are ugly. We start to believe that we are not worthy. And when we start to hold those beliefs, that's when we get into a place where it's going to be very difficult to heal. That's when we get into a place where it's going to be very difficult to heal. It's going to be very difficult to even get to a place where you find a practitioner that is going to help you heal, because even though we're here to help you we're like right here extending our hands, like come, you know, I can teach you how to heal you still resist. You do not allow yourself to go on that healing journey because, ultimately, you don't feel as though you're worthy, you doubt that your body has the capacity to heal and you keep yourself in that very low vibrational frequency place, and I see this happen all the time. And you know, this is the time where we have to break free of that pattern.
Speaker 1:And I truly believe that when you have acne, it is part of your life journey and this is the part of the journey where you learn how to love yourself, where you discover who you really are. And no, you're not a woman who is experiencing acne, who feels ugly, unworthy. That's actually not who you are. At your essence. You are love, you are beauty, you are a really remarkable, amazing spirit. But we forget that. We forget that because we're drawn down into this low vibrational mode of living low vibrational, you know, mode of living.
Speaker 1:So you know, what I want to talk about today is how you can get out of this low vibrational frequency state because, in order to start the healing process, in order to discover who you really are I should say rediscover who you really are because at one point you knew it, know, children are free, they're full of love, they, they see beauty everywhere, they experience beauty everywhere. Nobody could tell a child that they are ugly. They do that does not even register for them. So, you know, we need to rediscover who we are, rediscover our beauty and often, when we are stuck with acne for a prolonged period of time, we need to learn how to get out of that hole that we've fallen into. And this is why I believe acne is such a dangerous condition and it is so dangerous to remain experiencing acne for too long. You know, I honestly believe that once you start to experience some acne, you need to get on it immediately. You need to find a practitioner that's going to help you understand what's going on in your body and help you heal it, so you don't sink deep into this low vibrational frequency.
Speaker 1:And you know, this has not always been easy. And I will tell you, when I experienced acne and you know I'm dating myself here, but I'm talking about the late 80s, the 90s, the early 2000s when I was experiencing acne, the help wasn't there. You know, really the only solution that I had was to go see my dermatologist and they offered me medications. They didn't even think that diet was part of the equation. So you know, for a lot of us the support hasn't been there for many, many years. But we are so fortunate because now the support is there. There's practitioners like myself. I'm a naturopathic doctor. I've been healing acne for 20 years.
Speaker 1:I deeply understand the root cause. I also understand the spiritual and emotional impact that acne has on our psyche. And I will tell you right now it is dangerous. It's dangerous to live with acne for too long, because it drives you so far into this low vibrational state of being. You lose your self-confidence, you forget what you're put on this earth to do, you're not living your life fully. It brings us into a state of depression, of feeling like victims, and this is not our natural state of being.
Speaker 1:So I want to give you some ideas about how you can get yourself out of this hole. If you are so far into it, you just feel very unattractive. You feel very unworthy, very unlovable. You don't even feel worthy of healing. What are you going to do?
Speaker 1:So the first thing that you want to do is you have to start to shift your mindset around healing. You have to know that your body is a beautiful, amazing organism that's absolutely capable of healing, and I know at first this is going to seem really hard to wrap your head around, because you've been thinking the opposite for so long. You've probably been thinking that there's something wrong with your body. You know, and you've been trying so many different things that haven't worked and you're like this is hopeless, this acne is going to be with me forever. This is kind of like the burden in my life, and if that's been your mindset, it can be understandable, but it's not the truth.
Speaker 1:The truth is that the body is a miraculous organism. It is always attempting to achieve homeostasis, and homeostasis is perfect balance. To achieve homeostasis and homeostasis is perfect balance that's what our body is trying to achieve, but yet it is faced with so many things that prevent this, this balance, from occurring. And you know not only mindset issues, but also you know the environment. There's so many toxins in the environment, poor diet. You know the gut health. You know there's so many things that sabotage our guts. There's so many different elements that create this imbalance in our body. It's not always easy to achieve balance, but it's absolutely attainable. I've helped thousands of women achieve this balance in the last 20 years, women whose acne is probably much worse than yours, women whose mental state was probably worse than yours as well. But if they can heal, you can heal, and I see it happen time and time again. The body wants to heal. The body wants to be balanced. The body wants to heal. The body wants to be balanced.
Speaker 1:Now the next thing that you have to do is you have to tell yourself that you are safe. And this is coming back to the nervous system. If you've been in an acne mindset for a period of time, chances are your nervous system is dysregulated, and chances are your nervous system was dysregulated even before you experienced acne. But acne can drive us further into nervous system dysregulation. So the first thing we need to do is we need to start to heal your nervous system. This is work you can start to do on your own. This is work you can start to do to get yourself out of what I'm going to call the acne hole to a place where you are able to actually take action to heal your body, to feel that you are worthy of healing and love and an amazing life. So feeling safe is the first step to healing the nervous system.
Speaker 1:Now, many of us are living according to old patterns, to past patterns. You know instances may have happened in our lives where we don't feel safe and we've been carrying that around with us for far too long, and it's time to realize that we are safe. We are adults and we are capable of ensuring that our environment is safe, of taking responsibility for that. We are no longer children. We can do this, make yourself safe, and very often we live in a safe environment and yet we're still carrying around the belief that we are not safe. So it's time to shift out of that and it's time to understand that, yes, you are safe. Look around yourself. There probably are not too many threats facing you right at this moment. If there are, you need to remove yourself from this situation. You are incredibly capable of taking care of this and ensuring your safety.
Speaker 1:Once you've ensured your safety and you feel safe, you start to feel safe. This is when you start to choose an activity that you love to do. This is going to be a little bit different for everybody, but it's an activity that, when you do this activity, you actually lose time. So for some people, it could be dancing. You're dancing for 30 minutes and it feels like only 10 minutes has gone by. Or maybe it's cooking. You know you're cooking a beautiful meal and you know it's taken you an hour, but really it hasn't felt like any time at all, because you're so in your zone. You're so in a flow state.
Speaker 1:So, whether it's cooking, dancing, playing with your children, if you have small children, you are in luck because you have the most powerful healing tool in the world surrounding you, usually at all times, if your children are really young, children operate in a much higher frequency state than we're at right now and this is very natural for them. Their brainwaves are, you know, operating in alpha or theta frequency and when we're stressed as an adult, when you have acne and when you're in this acne mindset, you are in high beta brainwaves. You are very stressed. So when you can really connect with your children, they are going to have a healing effect on your nervous system. They're going to recalibrate the frequency of your brainwaves and recalibrate your vibrational frequency. It's just pure magic.
Speaker 1:So if you're able to stop the busy tasks that you're doing for an hour and just play with your children, whatever activity your child loves, get really into it. If it's coloring, if it's making a sand castle, if it's playing tag, if it's playing hide and seek, whatever your child loves. And for me, I have teenagers. So now I, you know, I do different things. I listen to a song that they really love, or, you know, I don't know. I'll drive them and all their friends someplace they really want to go and I'll listen to the music and I'll have conversations with them and I just I put the time in with my kids and I get into their frequency, if that makes sense, and that is so very healing. So that's a little bit of a tangent, but you know, what I was saying is that you want to do an activity that makes you lose time. For some people it can be having a bath they might really love that. Or walking in nature that's another activity that I really love. Or doing a yoga practice I'll definitely lose time doing that.
Speaker 1:So find an activity. Or playing with pets that's another really popular one. Find an activity that you love to do. Do this for 20 minutes two times a day minimum. After you do this for about 21 consecutive days, your nervous system is going to start to reset. You are going to be teaching your nervous system how to transition from the sympathetic state into the parasympathetic state, and when you're able to do this, healing is going to start to occur.
Speaker 1:So once you're doing this, the third step is to surround yourself with beauty. If we want to feel beautiful, truly, deeply feel beautiful, we have to start surrounding ourselves with beauty. Beauty operates at a very high frequency, and so when we surround ourselves with beautiful flowers, maybe bring home a plant that you really love. Maybe cook a really beautiful meal and make the food look lovely. Dress in clothing that you feel really you know where you really feel good in when you're, you know. Doing your makeup really. Emphasize your eyes or smile, you know. Focus on the features of yourself that are really beautiful. This is what I want you to do. Surround yourself with beautiful people. Rearrange your room, you know. Maybe tidy up a room that you spend a lot of time in, you know. Make this room as beautiful as you can.
Speaker 1:When you start to surround yourself with beauty, you feel the beauty. You start to vibrate at a different frequency and sooner or later you're. You start to vibrate at a different frequency and sooner or later, you're going to start to feel beautiful as well. So these are the three steps that you can start to do today to start to dig yourself out of that acne hole, to take yourself to a place where you start to feel worthy, where you start to feel lovable, where you start to understand how beautiful you truly are, because when you're down in that acne hole, it's really, really hard to find those feelings. It's not like I can say feel beautiful, you are beauty and you're all of a sudden going to feel that way. It's going to take time. So implement these three steps.
Speaker 1:Number one you are safe safe. If you're not safe, get yourself safe. You are a responsible adult, but you need to have a safe environment. Number two 20 minutes, two times a day. Do an activity that you really, really love. That makes you lose time. And if you can't think of something, go for a walk in nature, go for a bike ride, play with a child, play with a pet, do something very simple, but you'll find that it's the simplest activities sometimes that have the most impact on our nervous system. And then, number three, start to surround yourself with beauty. Wear the most beautiful clothes you own as often as possible. Really, you know, bring out the features of your yourself that are stunning your hair, your eyes, your smile. There's so many parts of you that are stunning, so really focus on those parts.
Speaker 1:So these are my three favorite things that I talk to my patients about, to start to get them into the healing mindset. And the thing is, once we're able to access this place where we feel lovable and worthy and beautiful, that's when healing starts to happen. It can happen effortlessly, or you find a practitioner like myself who deeply understands how to heal acne and, combining my protocol with this mindset, healing is going to happen incredibly rapidly and not only is your skin going to glow and be clear, but you are going to be approaching life very differently. It's going to change your entire life. When your mindset changes, your life changes, because our thoughts actually create our reality and when you're in that acne hole, you're definitely not creating the life of your dreams.
Speaker 1:So my goal is to get you out of that acne mindset, to help you achieve and understand how beautiful you are. So you have these thoughts that create the life for you that you are meant to live, because you are meant to live beautiful. You are meant to live big. There are tasks that you have to do on this earth that you are going to do so beautifully and you're going to have such great achievements and a lot of it is going to be because you are embarking on this healing journey right now. This healing journey is going to take you to the place where you're able to achieve what you are supposed to be doing in this life.
Speaker 1:So, without further ado, start implementing these suggestions. They are going to change your life. They're small right now, but it's going to take you to a place where you're going to deeply heal yourself and, you know, inadvertently, you're going to help other people heal as well. So I hope that this podcast has inspired you, informed you and, you know, helped you to realize that there is such an amazing journey ahead of you and you are not going to hate it.
