Despite the Limits
My name is Scot Storey, and I created this podcast, “Despite the Limits” to provide short conversations aimed at helping leaders grow professionally and personally. As a lifelong student of human connection, leadership, and communication, I am passionate about shaping the growth and capabilities of leaders. My personal journey in leadership development has been shaped by a career of service in the US Army’s Special Operations Forces leading numerous teams from just a few operators to organizations several thousand people strong, with the Army’s Rangers, Green Berets and Civil Affairs units in some the world’s most remote and arduous conditions. I believe in the power of a good story to shape personal connections and help people reach their full potential. That is what this podcast is all about.

Navigational Tips
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
In this episode I review some of the land navigation tips I gave to my Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Cadets and talk about how they can be helpful in navigating toward our life goals.
Here is a quick breakdown of what they are:
•Plot your course on a map and plan any detours.
•Check the compass and map at regular intervals.
•Locate each bound before proceeding to the next checkpoint.
•Count paces and estimate distance.
•When the objective is small, allow for error.
•Stay strictly on the bearing.
•Bypass bad terrain going by a deliberate measured bearing.
•If the ground does not conform to the map - STOP
•Trust the compass and the map
•When you find yourself lost - go back to the last place that you were when you knew where you were.
I found myself reflecting on these Do’s and Don’ts and couldn’t help but notice these were also some pretty good life advice. Since I can’t resist a good metaphor, I recorded this episode.
Here is a link to episode 11 from season one, “Failure is not your enemy” where I talk about my own land navigation woes.
