Horse Club and Racing Stories
Speaker 1Howdy guys, steven Haste here with Harness Up Podcast with Haste, draft Horses and Mules Guys, I'm down here in the bright, sunny south today. A lot of things brought me down this way and I met this young fellow here through YouTube actually.
Speaker 2Yes, sir.
Speaker 1And a super good kid. Guys. I call him a kid, but he may think he's not a kid anymore, but a super good boy. I've really enjoyed watching his videos and I was down here in mississippi today selling horses and I've got to go to louisiana next and sell some mules just having a great time, and kwan invited me by to do a podcast with him.
Speaker 2So, guys, this is kwan hey how everybody doing man, it's kwan k. You can find me on youtube at life with kwan k, and it's top of line man that's right and this is tay i'm'm Tay the cameraman.
Speaker 3You can find me on Instagram at PRB. Underscore Tay.
Speaker 1And we got another visitor over here too, but he's out of the camera right now, but we're going to get him over here before it's over, man.
Speaker 2Yes sir, yes sir.
Speaker 1All right, top of the line. What is Top of the Line?
Speaker 2Explain that to us. See, okay, well, top line came from, well, it basically came from him. Him. He always like say, say you got like a, something cool or something that bring your eye. Okay, it look good. You'd be like man, that's something top of line, that's a top of line horse. Like say, you got a fast horse and he going fast, like that horse, top of line, he look good who named it that? He's just started just saying top line out of nowhere taste. Just started just saying Top of the Line out of nowhere.
Speaker 1I see Tate just started.
Speaker 2Then when we started Horse Club at first it was just Civil Spurs Horse Club. Then he came along on the team and we just ran with Top of the Line.
Speaker 1So that is a horse club. Y'all got a horse club.
Speaker 2Yes sir.
Speaker 1So this is all new to me, guys. Yes, sir, this is a whole different world period, world period maybe new to a lot of you guys out there. Yeah, what kind of horses are you using?
Speaker 2mainly mainly. Well, before we was just walking horses, saddle horses, but now we, into standard breeds, standard bred paces, standard bred trottles, do a little mixing of american saddle bred with standard breds. You just just never. Yes sir, yes sir, saddle bred, yes sir.
Speaker 1Saddlebreds. Yes, sir, why.
Speaker 2Because they got that style. And if you mix it with the standard breed then you get the style and the speed and you know standard breed legs. You know how their legs are weak. Yeah, we got the saddlebred, they got the strong legs. So if you mix it up you ain't got to worry about the horse getting hurt like a regular standard breed.
Speaker 1You don't use horses, that people where I live don't want A saddle braided, standard braided cross. Nobody at home would ever want that. Oh man, oh man, you like them.
Speaker 2Love them. That's cool man, yes, sir.
Speaker 1So you're just going out trail riding with friends.
Speaker 2Yes, sir, getting together meeting. Yes sir, racing, any Racing. Explain how Racing standard braids with saddle yes, sir not with harness no, car, I'm gonna do none of that are you racing in a group of people flying together?
Speaker 2is it more one-on-one, it just it just depends like, say, we got a thing called we go to a horse ride, you got a thing called king of the road. That's when, like, if you can put anything on the road, anything, it can be a quarter horse, I'm talking about anything and it will go about six or four miles. You, you do one stop and the first horse back to the end, win, get you a trophy money, or whatever the case might be.
Speaker 1I see them online all the time doing like sprint races, though like short sprints you do those too.
Speaker 2We used to. I never done it because I was young at the time. But Rico, our club, we have done it like race standard grade, like quarter mile or a mile.
Speaker 1Yeah, okay.
Speaker 2Yes, sir.
Speaker 1I'm sure it's a blast. Oh it's fun it's very fun. I wish it wasn't raining today.
Speaker 2Yeah, I would have showed you about the American Side of Red Statenbury Cross.
Speaker 1I'd like to see it.
Speaker 2It'd be something to see anyway. Yes, sir.
Speaker 3I've seen them before. Get them in and ride them. Yeah, it's yeah. So you ride too, tay. Yes, sir, I do. All right, yes, I do. When did you start riding? Um, I started around about seven. I started out with a quarter horse and I started out riding by myself. Every day, I used to ride my quarter horse up and down the road. Well, I go around the block every day faithfully. And then I started coming along in 2019, because I didn't never really used to come on this side over here and I've had joined with silver spares and ever since then we top of the line, top of the line.
Speaker 1When did you start?
Speaker 2oh man, I've been in there. It's been in my blood since I was a baby.
Speaker 1Who got you into it?
Speaker 2Rico.
Speaker 1So this is Rico. Yes, sir, I don't know if you guys can see on the video, but back here they're showing us a picture. Back here you may bring it up, bring it closer and let them see it.
Speaker 2Tell them who this is on and what you. I think you want to say a little thing about him, maybe something. See, rico, man rico, I don't, I hate. I hate even talking about him because it made me tear up. But rico, rico was in love with his horses I'm talking about. He loved his horses, but rico well I'm putting like the rico used to be scared of horses. My dad and my uncle they tell me all the time how rico used to be scared of horses, but someday they just said, just said Rico just bought a horse and just fell in love with it. Then he used to have all the young kids around here that stay in trouble. He would bring us all feed the horses, just ride train or whatever and keep us out of trouble. And he just started Civil Spurs. Then it went on from there.
Speaker 1So Rico was actually doing a thing for the community and the kids around here keeping them in line.
Speaker 2Yes, sir Rico was a hero A real dude yes sir.
Speaker 1What's he holding that trophy for, though? What happened next? The King of the Road. So he won that one.
Speaker 2I don't know if you ever heard, but it's this thing. In Jackson they call it the Boondocks. That's where people from Texas, Louisiana, from everywhere come and you perform. And we went up there and beat everybody and won.
Speaker 3Let's have a look. That's awesome.
Speaker 2What year was that? I can tell you what year.
Speaker 3He might know 2022. 2022.
Speaker 22022. And if I would have, I would have brought the trophy when that was. When that was when I won 20. 2022. And if I would have, I would have brought the trophy we had when that was when that was when I won 20. 2023,. We went, we took the American Saddlebred mixed with the Standardbred, we took her up there and we also took the horse that won that one. But somehow I came back first and I won that with the mixed breed.
Speaker 1You going this year?
Speaker 2Nah, she finna be dropping a coat around this time, so I'm going to miss out. I think no, they just had it not too long ago. Yeah, I think yeah, they just had it. We missed out.
Speaker 3We have been to Fall Brawl too in Tennessee. Fall Brawl, fall Brawl on the mountains. What town is that? East Fork?
Speaker 1No, it wasn't.
Speaker 3East Fork. What was that Belvedere? No, I think I've heard of it. I think, yeah, we had one up there one time and I really loved it up there. It was nice, it was nice.
Speaker 1We're in Mississippi, guys. I think I said that. But we're in Taylorville. It's the closest kind of town. It's just a little bit north of Hattiesburg. If you look on the map, we're out in the country. I was driving in here and I'm like, wow, yeah, this is the country out here.
Speaker 2I love it. It's beautiful, it's beautiful.
Speaker 1And that's where we're at. We're at the house just having a good conversation and I'm really enjoying it so far. Yeah, it's nice out here I wish I could have met this Rico. That would have been cool man.
Speaker 2I wish I would have started my YouTube channel when he was here.
Speaker 1Yeah it would have been 10 times bigger than it is now.
Speaker 2So you're new to YouTube. Yeah, I've been in the game about a year now. What made you do it, me and him? Well, I was on TikTok heavy and I got like 40 or something AK followers on TikTok and I was doing numbers on TikTok and me and him I always talked about doing videos together and I always wanted to go over to YouTube. But when he died, something just told me just do it.
Speaker 1Just get on YouTube, just do it. So Life with Quan K was formed.
Speaker 2Yes, sir.
Speaker 1Guys get on his channel. He's got a YouTube channel. I've been watching it. I actually reached out to Quan.
Speaker 2Yes, sir.
Speaker 1I was watching his YouTube and I'm like this dude is cool. These boys down here are having a blast with horses. Yes, sir, and I want to meet these guys. So I sent him an email and he's like call me. I like that too.
Speaker 2I thought it was fake.
Speaker 1That's the only reason why I said call me. I thought it was fake. I love that Because in today's time, do you know how many people will not pick up the phone and call somebody?
Speaker 2Yeah, I know, I know.
Speaker 1And when you said call me, I'm like he's legit, I'm calling him, it meant a lot. I mean, I appreciate that that means a lot and hey, I'm glad to be here man. Yes, sir, I'm excited, just worked out. It's weird how things just get put into place. Yeah, I would never picture myself doing this. Well, my thing is, I was wanting to get down here to see you.
Speaker 4Mm-hmm.
Speaker 1I didn't have really a reason. I mean, I had reasons to I could have made a trip. I could have made a dry trip. Yeah, but I understand bring horses with me and sell them.
Speaker 2Yes, sir, because they're ready to buy down here. We're ready.
Speaker 1Well, last week I sold a horse to a guy, mm-hmm. And then I started saying, well, I'm going to make this happen, I'm going to figure it out.
Speaker 4Yes, sir.
Speaker 1Then yesterday a guy called me and bought my, or two days ago a guy called me and bought my black mules.
Speaker 4Mm-hmm.
Speaker 1Yesterday. Yesterday a guy called me and bought my grave mules. And then last night, before I left, a guy called me and bought my black perchance.
Speaker 2That's a blessing.
Speaker 1So I had a full trailer. That's a blessing, man. It is a blessing, ain't it?
Speaker 2Make your money. Sell the mules for your customers and do a podcast, that's a blessing, that's a blessing.
Speaker 1I got a horse in that trailer. You may go to that. What was it called?
Speaker 2What's that? Oh, boondocks, yeah, you think so.
Speaker 1You don't never know. You need to ride him before we leave.
Speaker 2We need to, we need to, we need to.
Speaker 1We need to. It's going to be a lot of fun. Man, this boy over here, we need to get him over here and let him introduce himself.
Speaker 2He's just sitting over here looking at his phone. Come here, Come holler at the camera man.
Southern Culture, Pranks, and Friendship
Speaker 5They want to put me in the camera. They want to get me on the camera.
Speaker 1Are you a member of this too? Oh yeah, you a guy.
Speaker 5Oh yeah, I'm top of the line. I'm top of the line. I'm selling for an Oscar. What's going on?
Speaker 1And what's your name?
Speaker 5Omar.
Speaker 1Omar. He sings. I heard Sing on Kwan's YouTube. Is him.
Speaker 2All the music on my YouTube is him, this guy right here.
Speaker 1So there you go. Yes, sir, where can they find you on platforms Tell them.
Speaker 5Oh, all platforms, I'm everywhere YouTube, apple Music, Spotify, everywhere, all platforms.
Speaker 1And what do they type in?
Speaker 57-4-OSKI 7-4-O-S-K-I.
Speaker 1OSKI, we'll put that in the description too. Guys, all these links to Quan's channel and all that, we'll load it up.
Speaker 5I was going to let y'all get back to the interview Behind the scene.
Speaker 1I asked him if he was going to sing for us on here, but he wouldn't. No, no, he won't sing for us on here.
Speaker 2We need to give the camera a little smile preview so they can be like oh, I guy out, that's right.
Speaker 1Yes, sir, no, he don't have the same they can hear. Yes, sir, I think he can't. I shouldn't be if he's a singer. I think he can't decide oh lord, it's rained a lot down here so how it is up there from where you from, though liberty kentucky uh-huh, because when I think about kentucky, I just think about racehorses.
Speaker 1It is a lot of racehorses. It's a lot different than here Culture-wise, food-wise, the way people sound. We've all three got southern accents but, it's different Style sound and I just eat downtown Somewhere in Hattiesburg Somewhere in Hattiesburg yeah, hattiesburg, I got some good food. What was the name of the place I went to, buffalo?
Speaker 3Wild Wings.
Speaker 1Yeah, because that's the only place I could get into a tornado warning come through. And I wanted to get off the road, so I did the Buffalo Wild Wings down there is ten times powerful than home. Yes, it's the food down here. I've eaten a lot down here, like in. I stopped at a roadside stand once in toomska, right up here off 20. There's an old guy that cooks pork, belly, candied yams sausages. Oh, good evening, it says, soul food on the sign it's so good.
Speaker 1Yeah, are you all too far north for crawfish bowls, or does that happen here?
Speaker 2Oh, that goes down, you do it, it goes down, it goes down.
Speaker 1Can you boil them?
Speaker 2No, I can't boil them. This was the man that boiled them.
Speaker 1Who boils them?
Speaker 2now we're going to buy them. We're going to buy them from the little stuff right there. You hunt any? Yes, sir.
Speaker 1He, you hunt any.
Speaker 2Yes, sir, he do a lot of hunting, though he gave us a lot of shots this year you gonna hunt on your channel any? Uh, I don't, I don't know it's just I don't know what's your plans for your channel. Moving forward, moving forward. I'm just trying to. Okay, how can I put this? I mean, I know most of of my audience come from the horses, but I want people to know me, like, want to watch me. You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 1You got a day job, though.
Speaker 2Yes, sir, what do you do? I just drive trucks. Semis 18 wheelers.
Speaker 1Just local.
Speaker 2Yes, sir, not over the road. No, I don't go over the road.
Speaker 3Well, you do, tay, I'm finna start driving trucks.
Speaker 1I start class on the 24th and I'm going to get in the truck business too.
Speaker 3You married no sir, you ain't married either.
Speaker 1No, sir Y'all got kids.
Speaker 2I have two, and I got two stepkids and I got one on the way, a little girl.
Speaker 1You got a girlfriend then yes, sir, Is that the girl that's in the video? Yes, sir, that's her I laughed so hard this guy, he's got a funny side and I'm thinking it's going to come out a lot on youtube pretty soon yeah, it's going to come out did you loosen that seat?
Speaker 2yes, sir, I did all that, all that was playing go watch the video.
Speaker 1Did she know about it really?
Speaker 2she didn't know nothing about it, nothing. So it was like real, yeah it was real it was real prank youtubers. It's playing between both people, I think yeah, see, I at first, when I started doing my prank, I had started planning them out, but it's not as more like serious, like you know. Yeah, but when you like, when I did that, oh man got a real reaction, ain't no faking that one.
Speaker 1Go watch the video, guys, if you want to laugh.
Speaker 4Yes, sir.
Speaker 1He made his girlfriend, I think, pee on herself. He slammed the pedal and she went back in that seat. I never laughed so hard she was.
Speaker 2And what's so crazy about it? She's pregnant.
Speaker 1It was funny. It was funny, yeah, that was funny. It was so funny, the whole video was just amazing. Yes, sir, you can do a whole lot more of that too.
Speaker 2Yeah, I got some more coming up in my sleeve. I got one I'm going to do this weekend.
Speaker 1Don't tell them, just make them subscribe to find out.
Speaker 2Yeah, Just know it's going to be funny. It's going to be funny, give this boy some attention on there.
Speaker 1He subscribed to his channel. They got a lot of good content. I love watching their horse racing on there. They're riding. I enjoy it.
Speaker 4Mm-hmm.
Speaker 1Where does all them people come from? You all have a lot of people that ride.
Speaker 2Oh man, that's basically what's going on down here. It's nothing but horses, Every little town you go there's somebody that's in the horses or four-wheelers Right.
Speaker 1That's it down here? I don't get down here a lot. We sell some in Mississippi, but not much.
Speaker 2You will have a lot of good customers if you was down here more.
Speaker 1Well, that's what I'm hoping this will help me, yes, sir. Spread the haste draft horses in Mississippi.
Speaker 4Yes, sir.
Speaker 1I was here a few times. I had the worst time of my life in Mississippi.
Speaker 3Wow.
Speaker 1I was pretty scared. I'm serious.
Speaker 2What part of Mississippi you was in.
Speaker 1Lexington, oh Jackson.
Speaker 2Oh boy, I'm telling you guys this is real.
Speaker 1That's the worst part. I delivered a pair of mules to a guy that was a crop duster in Lexington. I left out of there midnight. I was low on fuel. There was a little gas station off to the left down there and I had to stop. I didn't have a choice. Well, I went up in that place and of course I don't know who it was.
Speaker 1There was people there fighting with the owners and thrashing and I went in there and paid for my diesel and I gave them a $100 bill and walked back out to pump it.
Speaker 4The pump.
Speaker 1Lots didn't even work. I didn't know how much diesel I was getting or nothing. A bunch of boys come up around me and surrounded me yeah, and wanted money.
Speaker 2That sounds about right, you know what I did. Did you give it to them?
Speaker 1I did, yeah and I got in that truck and slammed that door into that nozzle on the ground and got the heck out of there. That's probably the safest thing you did, that's the only time I've ever been held up Anytime.
Speaker 2Yeah, in.
Speaker 1Lexington, Mississippi.
Speaker 2Yeah, I ever been held up anytime. Yeah, in Lexington, mississippi. Yeah, we don't even stop in no gas station in Jackson.
Speaker 1It's rough, ain't it.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1Very rough. Well now, if I'm in Mississippi, I'm going to call Tay and Quan.
Speaker 2Yeah, just come, holler at us. Come to Hebrew, come to Hebrew, yeah.
Speaker 1No, it's good to have friends guys.
Speaker 2Yeah, it's pretty good yeah.
Speaker 3No, it's good to have friends guys, it's pretty good. I had a push Kwan at one point. He had started slacking up on record and I was like man, we got to drop videos. We got to drop videos. He was like I don't know what to record and I was like Kwan, they want to see horses. That's what they're always saying on their horses. So he finally just took it more serious.
Speaker 1Why don't you go to town on horses? That would be so cool.
Speaker 2Get all your boys together and go to town see that I don't I don't know how to how to place what stuff was would do with that, because sometimes when we do our little rides road rides and stuff police are messed with us, so I don't even want to try to go that route.
Speaker 1I guess that's the difference in home, because we're in a huge Amish community I mean huge and horses on the road are just normal way of life.
Speaker 2See, that's normal in the country. Yeah, that's normal in the country out here.
Speaker 1We go to town too. The Amish go to town. I guess they're just used to it. We go to McDonald's, to the drive-thru, with horses.
Speaker 2Oh boy, oh boy, that's a good deal. That'll be something.
Speaker 1I think I'll burn it out. We put a lot of it on.
Speaker 4Hey.
Speaker 1Since 2011,. The YouTube channel started.
Speaker 4Mm-hmm 2011.
Speaker 1But I'm glad you're branching out to other things. Yes, sir, Because see, my channel name is Haste Draft Horses and Mules.
Speaker 4Mm-hmm.
Speaker 1So people know I'm going to be. I'm going to be draft horses and mules.
Speaker 2Yes, sir.
Speaker 1But yours is life.
Speaker 2Yeah, with Kwan, you never know what you're going to get.
Speaker 1You're going to show your whole life on there.
Speaker 2You never know what you're going to get.
Speaker 1It's going to say one thing when you hit it big on there on. Youtube, who done the first podcast with you.
Speaker 2You did. I will never forget that. I will never forget that.
Speaker 1You don't never know, man.
Speaker 2Never know.
Speaker 1You never know. That's cool though.
Speaker 2And I thank you again.
Speaker 1So do you train any or do you just? Hearing now, well, what you mean by training like what you mean young horses and train them to do what you all do yeah, we got one in training right now and he's a standard.
Speaker 2No, he a standard. Try to mix with a side of bread. And he in training right now, but, as in training like you mean, like just break them to ride oh, we then we don't got to break them. Just get on them, just get on them, just put hands on. While they're young, keep your hands on and, you know, put a saddle on them. Let them get used to all that. Get on their back, get on them up.
Speaker 1You're direct grinding these horses though, right Sir?
Speaker 2said again You're not neck grinding them.
Speaker 4No.
Speaker 1You're just plow rank, that's it.
Speaker 2We start them off with just halting the rope and get that down, pat, put in a bent mile. Just walk them, learn how to turn, stop you use spurs.
Speaker 3No, sir, no spurs, no spurs. But that's the name of my horse called Silver Spur.
Speaker 1Okay, so you don't have Pete, you got a good farrier here. That's what you do it yourself.
Speaker 2Yeah, so we got a couple people in our group that does that. Okay, like Rico when I say he did everything he shooed, trained. The only thing he didn't do was get on the horse. But we had one horse that he would ride, but other than that he would just, I don't know, there's something about him. He was like he was a horse risker, like he would put us up on there and we'd be going down the road.
Speaker 1If he sees something going on, he'd on, he'll like loosen up in the mouth, or you know, like little techniques and the horse will do the deal.
Speaker 2Y'all ride a four-wheeler, a lot with these horses. Yes, sir, that's on what we're gonna follow what's the reason? So you're gonna miss the ass, like if you're in a truck. It's a lot of people on the road trying to watch that race. Go on you. If you're on the four-wheeler, you ain't gonna miss it.
Speaker 1I watch a lot of that standard bread stuff on youtube like people flying down the road with the full labor side of them and going 30 mile an hour.
Speaker 2Yes, sir, we got a. We got a trotter right now that'll clock 30 right now you've been on him at 30 yes, sir rush flying rolling a rush, but it's a smooth ride, it's fun I mean, you don't move in that saddle it.
Speaker 1It's amazing how standard bred is so versatile.
Speaker 2That's why mostly we like the trotters, because you know how they got that. Well, trotters and paces are basically the same, they just got different leg movements yeah.
Speaker 2But if you got a full trotter, you just throw some like chains on the back of a trotter, it's going to make it get into a gate and make it single foot. Do you know what a single foot is? A trotter with single foot real fast. But if you can get you a fast trotter, that'll trot fast and if you can break them down to the single foot, you got you a top-of-the-line horse.
Speaker 1Back home they call that a rackin' horse.
Speaker 2Yes, sir, we call it a rackin' horse, but you know, single foot. So yeah, you know we. I sent some bunch of standard breads one time to Puerto Rico, puerto Rico I'd be watching a couple day videos on Facebook so they do it down there too.
Speaker 1Yeah, yeah, then boys come up this area, right no, that wasn't is it. Puerto Rico overseas.
Speaker 2No, no, we had a hit reached out to Rico and offered him like $30,000 for our stud. We got up there right now he didn't sell it.
Speaker 3No, he didn't sell it $20,000. $20,000 in a G-Wagon truck.
Speaker 2In a G-Wagon truck.
Speaker 3And they was going to pay for all the shipping fees. Send the horse over there and everything.
Speaker 2What is your stud? He's a Pacer mixed with a trotter.
Speaker 1You don't breed him out or you just breed him out.
Speaker 2Yes, sir he got a lot of babies on the ground. Right now he training one of them.
Speaker 1So you'll let people breed to him.
Speaker 2Yes, sir, they can come breed right now.
Speaker 1So if you're in the Mississippi area and you want to maybe breed to Kwan's stud, if you're in this kind of thing, his email is on his YouTube.
Speaker 2Yes, sir.
Speaker 1You can get a hold of him very easy. It didn't take much.
Speaker 2He answered me back quick and I like that. Yes, sir, he's a top of the line horse. Most people know him Illuminati. He ran all this at a young age. Yes, sir.
Speaker 1That's good. You ought to collect him that way. You always got that on in the bank.
Speaker 2You right. We should have collected his father, because his father was a bad man. He was a full pacer.
Speaker 1What's the fastest horse you ever?
Speaker 2clocked, probably his father.
Speaker 1I don't know how you stay on.
Speaker 2It ain't as hard as you think it is.
Speaker 3Just sit there and rap.
Speaker 1I've seen you on videos. Right, you get it. I've seen you. I've seen you. I think I've seen him too.
Speaker 2I think he might be, I'm not sure. No, he ain't really on he, probably on one or two. I don't think I'm seen him too. I think he might be, I'm not sure.
Speaker 3No, he ain't really on he, probably on Warner too.
Speaker 2I don't think so. You probably tell me You're talking about Rondell. He did a lot of racing for us. He did most of the racing. He won that trophy right there.
Speaker 1They do race a lot in Texarkana too. I heard yeah, they do, yeah, they won that trophy right there.
Speaker 2They do race a lot. In Texarkana too, I heard. Yeah, In North Texas they do yeah they get down A lot.
Speaker 1It's getting pretty popular.
Speaker 4Yeah.
Speaker 1I know you may have a big race up here one day.
Speaker 2We usually throw rides up here.
Speaker 3We just had one last year. Yeah, okay, last year.
Speaker 4You got to come down to our next one.
Speaker 2I'd gotta come down to our next one.
Speaker 1I'd love to you guys to be a lot of you guys to let you come. Is he gonna perform at it?
Speaker 2he performed one time here at a ride. He performed. We're trying to, I'm trying to build his confidence back up. He was, you know, you know how you said consistency is key. He was consistent at one point. He just stopped he consistency is key he just stopped at one point, but you know I'll still be on. Get him back going. Yeah, I'll trust him. Get him back going. I am, is there?
Speaker 1anything else y'all want to talk about? I mean, it's y'all's podcast. I'm just hosting it. Is there anything you want to tell the folks out there about y'all or anything? I don't know how long we've been going.
Speaker 2I mean I really don't even. I mean anything else you want to know.
Speaker 1I mean it's hard for me just to go out, I understand yeah the best thing with these podcasts is don't think about it yeah, you're right, but it's hard, not to. It's hard, it's hard just let it out, just sit and let it out, let it out. But now I mean we've covered a lot of good stuff. I love what y'all are doing. I've learned a lot about it already sitting here. It's a blessing it ain't no justice in person.
Speaker 2It's no justice.
Speaker 1How old are you?
Speaker 2I'm 23.
Speaker 1How old are you, tate, 24. Gonna be 25. And he's 20, you said.
Speaker 2Yes, sir.
Speaker 1Yeah, he a young boy.

Speaker 1Yes, sir, you will what's it like here in this area? I want to know more about this area. It's like everybody tight knit here in this, all around here pretty much yeah, this area, like this part right here, everybody's like, like tight help each other help each other.
Speaker 2Help each other, all that.
Speaker 1It's not a lot of houses, though it's not. It's not, it's pretty spread out.
Speaker 2Yeah, it's a lot of land out here.
Speaker 1You got a big church up there. You all go there to church.
Speaker 2I go to the church no, you ain't pass that way but my church is on down. What church is that? What church is that? Old Palestine? No, not Old Palestine. What's?
Speaker 1that church called I don't forget it Morning.
Speaker 2Star, morning Star, you don't sing in church. I don't. I don't do no singing.
Speaker 1No, sir, you don't either. No, sir, these folks down here can sing. Yeah, they can Soul singing.
Speaker 2Yeah, I like it. Actually we got one. He stay down the road. He's big. People know him, julius, I guess his name yeah, okay.
Speaker 1Julius Ava.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1Are you into any sports?
Speaker 2I was into basketball. I played basketball through my whole childhood and from basically my whole school year I played basketball. I went to college to play basketball for a year.
Speaker 1What school.
Speaker 2Let's look A little Baptist College right here in Laura.
Speaker 1I went there. Didn't make it all the way through, though.
Speaker 2I just it wasn't the same. Yeah, it felt like I was in high school again. It didn't feel like college, yeah. So, and that's when I went to Jones, got my CDL and I just been ready to go.
Speaker 1You ever see yourself doing over the road trucking. No, want to stay home.
Speaker 2It's not even that, it's just the trucking industry is so messed up right now. It's been messed up for some years now it's messed up.
Speaker 1What do you mainly haul?
Speaker 2See what I do is I'm an asphalt, I haul asphalt, I build the roads.
Speaker 1Okay. Yes sir, you going to do the same thing? Yes, sir, work for the same company.
Speaker 3Yes, sir, starting out, Then I think I'm going to take my talent to West Texas. Doing what? On the oil field? Because we was in the oil field last year and, yeah, we both went out there at the same time. He had the CDID, so I was a ground hand. Well, they put him as a ground hand too, because he wasn't 23 yet and there wasn't no money that we was the company that we was at. It really wasn't no money. So it was like we're going to come back home. And he came back home and started back driving and I came back home to get my CDL Was you?
Speaker 1homesick. And I came back home to get my.
Speaker 3CDL Was you homesick? No, sir, you didn't miss home. No, sir, I went out there in 2020. I was homesick then, but when I went back out there in 2024, I had a mindset You're going to have to do it Ain't no handouts Was you homesick. Yes.
Speaker 2Nah, nah, it wasn't really a home sit. I was just really worried about the horses. Honestly, yeah, honestly, I was really worried about the horses.
Speaker 1You're a horseman, you love them.
Speaker 2I love them. I try not to put myself like I'm deep into it, but you know.
Speaker 3But just try to keep it up, yeah.
Speaker 2Tradition. Yeah, we have to, yeah, you got to keep it up.
Speaker 1Yeah, tradition, yeah, we have to. Yeah, you got to keep it, I got to.
Speaker 2Once Rico left man, that's been our goal.
Speaker 1You promised him, don't worry.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1That you would do it.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1That's good man.
Speaker 2Yeah, I miss him, we miss him.
Speaker 1Oh yeah, I'd say so.
Speaker 2Yeah. I'd say so related to you at all. He was actually my godfather, okay.
Speaker 1Yes, sir, so everybody here like are your parents close by, or?
Speaker 2Actually, yeah, they live right here.
Speaker 1This is your parents' house. Yeah, I live on the other side.
Speaker 2Okay, this house is closer to the barn, so yeah.
Speaker 1Your parents close by here. Tate yes, sir, Born and raised right here.
Speaker 2Yes, sir.
Speaker 1No, ever crooking these roads and everything everything, everything.
Speaker 2Actually, my dad grew up like right down the road I'm gonna get me a good meal tonight, boys I wish I want a recommendation see, I was gonna tell you to go to the little spot we got out here in here in chapman, but they closed down right now yeah, yeah they closed down down. Oh my God.
Speaker 3Where are you staying at Like in Laurel, hattiesburg, or you don't know yet.
Speaker 1I got to be in Shreveport by 8 o'clock in the morning.
Speaker 2So that means you're going to go, I'm going to hit 20.
Speaker 120 West and Rockett. I'm probably going to try to get there tonight before midnight and sleep in the truck.
Speaker 4That's what I do okay I won't leave my mules and horses I ain't gonna leave them, I ain't got nowhere to put them, besides the trailer so that's what I do.
Speaker 1I got that 38 foot trailer. I just turn them loose, feed and water them in the trailer and I ain't gonna leave them. They gotta stay in the trailer you gonna stay in the trailer.
Speaker 4That's love that's only fair it's all the fair.
Speaker 3Yeah, yeah, I'll stay there with them you know, we had to do the same thing with tennessee so did the same thing.
Speaker 1But if they get a horse motel or a barn, I'll go to a motel.
Speaker 2Oh, that'll be a good investment yeah, that'll be something nice, that'll be nice, y'all should open one down here somewhere hey, if y'all y'all help y'all help me, y'all help us get to the top, and we'll do that you're gonna get there yeah, I believe it, I believe it. You're very confident yes, sir, oh yeah, and that's good, that's a good, thank you, thank you that's a good sign.
Speaker 1I love y'all's personalities well. The minute I got out up here I felt at home straight up, I ain't gonna lie, I'm gonna be real.
Speaker 2I thought you were gonna be kind of scared. I wasn't a bit that's good, that's good.
Speaker 4I just felt it.
Speaker 1Y'all made me feel at home. Now what I had. Some feelings, hey I I understand, I do that, you're honest. I do that I mean, I had a few things going through my mind but, I felt comfortable, that's good, that's good. I mean, and when I got out and you all got out and I seen how cool you all was and just nice as could be, I'm like, these boys are good. Yes, sir, they're cool guys, you know, Thank you to our parents man, that shows man a lot.
Speaker 2Yes, sir.
Speaker 1Everybody's like people think they are.
Speaker 2You know, I get that a lot oh. I'd say I get that a lot.
Speaker 1But I learned something by this too.
Speaker 2What's that?
Speaker 1I got some good friends down here in Taylorsville, Mississippi.
Speaker 2Oh yeah, sir, it's your home now.
Speaker 3I love it.
Speaker 2One call, that's all. Top of line shirt.
Speaker 1I'm gonna get you a top of line shirt I did um, give these boys some t-shirts and y'all. We have merchandise now and I'm actually wearing one of them.
Speaker 1It's pretty dirty. I spilled v8 juice on it this morning. Hey, he's got one. Hold it up to the camera for me. Thank you very much. These are the harness up podcast t-shirts. It's got our logo on the front and on the rear it's got the harness up logo. So check that out, guys, and if you want one, you can go to wwwdraughthorsesandmulesforsalecom. You have to spell out the end wwwdraughthorsesandmulesforsalecom. When's your merch coming online?
Speaker 2see the way we do these. Like I want to get into that. Like so people just go on, like people from my youtube, just go order them, but we just make an order like we get everybody in the group or whoever want to order a shirt, we all just place an order and we send it to the local print place down there and just get them, like that. But I actually want to do that. How you doing it?
Speaker 2I got the guy for you I need to get in touch with him laser's edge kenny, my friend out in wyoming it's a long way from here, but he is. He's spot on but see, I don't want to. I don't want people thinking I'm trying to steal what rico had did and try to make money off of. So I don't really want to put the silver spurs on there. I just want to put like top line entertainment. You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 1You could put top of the line. But you could give a little credit for Rico and put a small Silver Spurs too.
Speaker 4That's not yeah, give Rico a little credit on there too. That's right yeah.
Speaker 1Because his legacy lives on. He turned it over to you, boys.
Speaker 2Yes, sir, he did.
Speaker 1Silver. Yes, sir, he did.
Speaker 2Silver Spurs is your alls now really, man, can I shout my people out? Yeah, shout them all out. Shout out to Rondizzi. Shout out to Tay Harper. Shout out to our new CEO, marco. Shout out to y'all Top of the line family.
Speaker 1Missing him? Did you say him yeah, I said him we call him Oski.
Speaker 2We call him Oski.
Speaker 1You call him what?
Speaker 2Oski Oski, oski, oski you know, his artist name is 74 Oski, so we just say Oski.
Speaker 5What's 7-4?
Speaker 1Just a oh it's just a just a name, just a name, just a number.
Speaker 2It just, it's nice, it sounds good, it does. He did go by Lil Omar, but it was plain and a lot of people had that name, so I can't remember. Somebody just called him Lil Oski. Then he just put the 7-4 in front of him. Then he just put the 7-4 in front of it 7-4 Husky, I like it. Yeah, it's different.
Speaker 1All right, boys, let's talk about our stuff. You got Life with Quan K.

Speaker 1This podcast goes out to a lot of people yes, sir shout out to people in los angeles, california. I don't know why, but you all are number one city on this podcast hey y'all, come on down to life with corn k man I don't know why. I guess because la is so big, maybe, but la is the number one city, and then chicago's second, then denver it's crazy how, how it's more people like from from far away that actually watch this stuff. I'll show you when we get off here. Australia, indonesia, india everywhere.
Speaker 2That's wild. It goes all over the world. That's wild, it's a podcast.
Speaker 1It's crazy they want to sit there and listen to old Kentucky Hillbillies and some Mississippi.
Speaker 2But now I do have one question. So what y'all mules like, what y'all do, why mules?
Speaker 1I love them. I'm a mule man.
Speaker 2So what's the difference between a mule and a horse?
Speaker 1Mules are the history of America. Mississippi mules back in the day. On these old plantations. Cotton fields, yeah, that's right, that's right, that's right, that's right.
Speaker 2Yeah, that's right.
Speaker 1That's right. That's right. That's right, mules. Yeah, you know why they're tougher, they're stronger they can stay in the heat because it gets hot here and they live twice as long as a horse.
Speaker 3A mule is a donkey across to a mare so when I'm gonna get the chance to ride one?
Speaker 1I got one at home.
Speaker 2Y'all would love, so, so can you ride them on the back oh yeah you can and what type of gate do they do?
Speaker 1most usually are gated mules okay, okay, so I got a gated mule at home out of a walking horse, mary, that will fly just oh, okay, so they okay, okay, okay, I see okay kind of goes by the mac, but the donkey's got a natural little shuffle. They've got that natural little shuffle Mules walk fast. They get into that walk and swing their hips and flop their ears.
Speaker 3They walk and they just get the going.
Speaker 1Cover the ground. Also, don't ever breed a stud to a jenny if you want a mule, because if you breed a stud horse to a jen, donkey you're going to get a henny, it ain't a mule. The only way to get a mule is jack donkey to the man.
Speaker 4Oh, wow.
Speaker 1A lot of people don't know that, but that's how it is.
Speaker 2What you think about how the way we ride like on the asphalt, what you what you got to say about that.
Speaker 1I heard I get a lot of people in my comments saying this abuse I get the same thing okay, okay, every day okay and it that's a touchy subject it is, it is very touchy subject because it could be abused to a certain point, to a certain point but to me it's not okay I'm gonna use these horses on the road every day.
Speaker 1Now that's a touchy thing too. A lot of people say amish abuse horses. But to me, amish are people just like you are, just like I am, just like the next guy is. There's good and bad in all people. So you can't just say amish and categorize them with every amish. You can't. I know amish people that are the best horse caregiver I ever met in my life and truly love their horses. I know some that's not. I know English people. The Amish call all of us English. So if you come to Amish country, you're English because you're not Amish.
Speaker 1So I know English people that are the best in the world and some that are the worst. It's how you use your horse.
Speaker 2Okay.
Speaker 1When you get them ready for that asphalt, you got to have them prepared to go.
Speaker 2Yeah, because our horses like we have horses now. If you put them on dirt road they will ride like crap. Put them on the asphalt, oh my lord.
Speaker 1I know.
Speaker 4Mm-hmm.
Speaker 1Bore him on the shoes. Drill tech is what we use.
Speaker 2Oh really.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2It's called drill techs, what we use, oh really, yeah, it's called drill tech. You heard of it.
Speaker 1I never heard of that. You get mail here like it yeah, at this address. You got a po box for you too.
Speaker 2No, I do not need one I know, but I don't know man go up here and get you a po. You'll be surprised yeah, I've been, I'm gonna, I'm waiting on my youth to get bigger to do all that.
Speaker 1Give me a size. You want shoes before I leave. Okay, I'm going to mail you a set of drill tags.
Speaker 2Okay, a gift. So what is it? Is it kegs? They're keg shoes.
Speaker 1It's a keg shoe with drill tech put on it. Drill tech is a. You put it on with a rod, you torch it on like welding. Uh-huh, it's gold I'll be saying that like on facebook and stuff. It lasts, for you can get three or four shoe-ins out of it. I've heard of that and I can tell you where to get them. You order blacksmith. I order them out of millersburg, ohio from the blacksmith. You get them. You'll be ordering shoes from them.
Speaker 4And you try that out.
Speaker 1They last forever and they're good. They're real good, yeah, so that's a plus too, right there. Yeah, but I want to mail you a set. Okay, thank you, thank you, thank you, but yeah, that's a touchy subject.
Speaker 3I mean, if you're going to have that horse on asphalt every day, all day long, from 8 in the morning to 8 at night and just wear the heck out of it.
Speaker 4Yes, that's abuse.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2No, we don't do all that For a lot of people to understand running on that hard blacktop.
Speaker 1That blacktop's not as hard as some ground.
Speaker 2You're right, that's a fact. That's a fact. And that blacktop is made out of the same thing that the good Lord put on the earth. Right out there we're walking on.
Speaker 1Yes, sir, yes sir, I haul that every day and dirt I know some dirt out here in the hot of the summer that is a lot harder on a horse than that blacktop road. That blacktop gives and it does, it does.
Speaker 2So I was wondering because I was being iffy on posting riding on the road and stuff, because I get a lot of bad comments.
Speaker 1My advice to you that a guy gave me a long time ago.
Speaker 4Mm-hmm.
Speaker 1Be yourself, be an individual.
Speaker 4Mm-hmm Be Quan.
Speaker 1Mm-hmm, don't do nothing else but what Quan wants to do yes sir. And if somebody puts on there, it's abuse. Kill them with kindness, don't be mean to them, don't smart back at them, mm-hmm kindness. Don't be mean to them, don't smart back at them. Just say thank you for your advice and God bless you, and smile at them and go on.
Speaker 4Keep it push.
Speaker 1And you just be Kwan.
Speaker 2Yes, sir.
Speaker 1And Tay you be.
Speaker 3Tay, I'm going to be Tay, that's right. Do what Tay does.
Speaker 1No matter what, we all got to be our own self, our own individuals. That's what the world's about. I'm going to be Stephen D Haste, and it's hard to change him, but I like it.
Speaker 4That's good.
Speaker 2That's good, as long as you love yourself.
Speaker 1That's right, you got to. You got to love yourself before you can love anybody else.
Speaker 2Facts.
Speaker 1Remember that one.
Speaker 2Yes, sir.
Speaker 1That's a hard one too. We don't want to give relationship advice and love advice on this, probably today.
Speaker 3No we ain't going to do that.
Speaker 2Maybe next time, but not today. Yeah, we ain't going to go there.
Speaker 1We ain't going to go there y'all. But, guys, I've really, really enjoyed this. I did too.
Speaker 2I have so I know you got standard bread pastes in there. Do y'all put them in hobbles?
Speaker 1No, Y'all don't they hobble them on the?
Speaker 2track yeah, I know that we hobble them too.
Speaker 1Just to keep them in their pace.
Speaker 2Mm-hmm, yeah Well we got some that are free. Leg out this world.
Speaker 1Just roll with it.
Speaker 2Just roll, just roll. You've got to come to know. I'm going to see. I really want to come because actually we have a guy that used to ride with us a lot. He actually rides in a derby now.
Speaker 1Who.
Speaker 2His name is Cortez Walker.
Speaker 1See, I did a podcast with Mr Eric Reid. He won the derby trainer in 2022, rich Stratton, and he told me call me. I'll get you in at the Red Mile in Lexington and you can ride in the pace car you know the gate for the standard breads so you could come up, bring 7-4 with you. Yeah, he coming, you three come up to Lexington. Or you just let us know it's August through October.
Speaker 4August through October yeah, look at the schedule.
Speaker 2I sent you the schedule. Yeah, you got me, I got it's like tuesday, thursday, friday, saturday you have to be on a weekend for me it's like they switch it up
Speaker 1okay but y'all gonna be there in eight hours yeah, we can, or you can just go get on a plane up there and fly into lexton looks like that's what that's probably what's gonna happen? Two hours gonna get on a plane up there and fly into Lexington, looks like that's probably what's going to happen. We're going to get on a plane, just fly in. I'll meet you up there. Take you to the track.
Speaker 2Yeah, we're most definitely making that happen.
Speaker 1We'll call Eric Reed. Eric, we're going to be calling you. Hope you're listening. He's cool, one of the best guys you'll ever meet. Okay, okay, I'm here and we want to get in that car.
Speaker 2He told me he'd make it happen. That's going to be a wild experience. I ain't lying, could you imagine being in that car. I cannot. I can't even picture myself doing that right now.
Speaker 1With some of the world's top horses. Come to the Breeders' Cup. You want to see the real deal. We'll come. You come to the Breeders Cup in October up there at the Red Mile.
Speaker 4Man.
Speaker 1You'll be able to stand straight. You'll be so cold You'll be watered. We'll have to tie you up.
Speaker 2Yeah, probably Probably. I'll get happy.
Speaker 1It's so much fun because you can go back in the barn at the Red Mile, hang out, meet people.
Speaker 4Yeah, that is.
Speaker 1You'll meet so many people trainers it's a blast.
Speaker 2That is yeah, you need to stay a couple days.
Speaker 1Yeah, we're going to do that and come and just enjoy the heart of Kentucky, lexington, the Bluegrass State, horses if you like bourbon, they got a lot of it. Bourbon and horses and bluegrass. Okay, and there you go.
Speaker 2Yeah, we most definitely going to make that happen.
Speaker 1It'll be fun, and there's also a track in Corbin, kentucky now there's a track in Oak Grove and Franklin. There's like four or five tracks in Kentucky.
Speaker 3Now that's running standard brakes which one you like the most Red Mile.
Speaker 4Red Mile it's on.
Speaker 1Sun Beach somewhere. It took the record a minute and 48 in a mile yeah, that boy moving the trotters are amazing there. You got to bet if you go.
Speaker 2You bet on a horse race? Yeah, we bet all the time it's fun.
Speaker 1Yeah, you ain't seen it until you go there and do it in person and watch that race you bet on in person.
Speaker 2Because on TV they look like they're going so slow, but I know in person it's different.
Speaker 1When you're down there on the bottom row.
Speaker 2I just know it.
Speaker 1I know them moving when they come around that curve, 12 of them, 14 of them. You can feel it in your soul. Oh, yeah, they moving, it's just a rush. Yeah, it's a rush. Yeah, it's a rush, I love it. I love standard breed racing my whole life.
Speaker 2I wish they had it. Uh, we can ride on a back racing and a derby. I wish they had that.
Speaker 1I love standard breeds.
Speaker 2We do too.
Speaker 1They're the most versatile horse.
Speaker 2It just. It's just something about them. They got that, that style, I don't know. It's just something about a standard breed.
