The People Under the Stairs (1991): Head Trauma for Daddy
What would happen if Wes Craven combined "Home Alone" and "Nothing but Trouble"? Well, he'd come up with "The People Under the Stairs", a film that has elements of both, but not quite as good as either. And, for good measure, why not throw in a little of "The Goonies", "Nightmare on Elm Street" and "Twin Peaks" while he's at it. A film mostly designed to highlight the class divide in a big city, The People Under the Stairs is definitely one of the more odd installments in Craven's filmography, and not nearly as noteworthy as many of his other films. But, despite his greater efforts, Craven has manifested something that feels plagiarized, but also manages to have unique identity (Just not really within a genre).
