We invite you to discover the "secret place" as a constant refuge, nurturing a personal relationship with Christ that empowers you to face life's challenges with confidence and gratitude.
and we're just going to hop right into the word tonight. Dave, you want to open in prayer, amen. Well, you know we're studying on Psalms 91, and today we're going to focus on verse 5. And so we'll just read down to that he who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadows of Almighty, I will say of the Lord, he is my refuge and my fortress, my God and Him. I will say of the Lord, he is my refuge and my fortress, my God. In Him I will trust. Surely he will deliver me from the snares of the fire and from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover me with His wings, with His feathers, and under His wings. I always put myself. In there I shall take refuge. His truth shall be my shield and my buckler, and you shall not be afraid of the terror by night.
Speaker 1:And so the, the word that we're going to um zone in on tonight is afraid. And so how many of us here have? You know, I believe, in my heart of hearts there's a normal fear, and then there's abnormal fear. Okay, so a normal fear would be you know, if it's going to storm, I've got to get home and make sure the windows are shut, that would be a normal fear. But then if I take it over, I gotta get home make sure my house don't blow away. When it's just a rainstorm, that is a none. That is not normal fear, like when you can't get out of your house to go to the store, that's not a normal fear. Okay, so you know fear is a good, it's good to have fear, but not whenever it takes control of you.
Speaker 1:So what we're going to talk about tonight is fear, a false evidence appearing in the world, and that's what Satan does. He brings stuff upon us that makes us afraid to be able to go forward in God. You know, many times I've mentored women, spoke with women, shared with women, and you know I see great potential in them. I know God's got a destiny for them, I know God's got a purpose for them, but yet they're afraid to step into the fullness of what God has for them, and so by not doing that, they're held back into bondage. And you know that's Satan, because he puts that fear in us. I'm not good enough, I can't do this, I'm not worthy. Look where I've been, look at my past. You know he's constantly bringing all that garbage up to us and causing us to stay status quo. Anybody agree with that? Yes, okay, so Let me see where I'm at. There are many fears and phobias up on this earth.
Speaker 1:Now, when I was agoraphobic, that is a, a anxiety disorder and through the anxiety it kept me bound in fear. It kept me bound in not feeling like I. I had a. I even had value. I mean, my sister would come to the house and she'd be like you've got to get in the shower, girl, you've got to wash your hair, you've got to get that rat's nest out of your hair. But I had lost my self-worth, I had lost the value of who I was.
Speaker 1:And you know that is exactly what Satan wants to do is just keep us pushed back. But that is a time whenever we come and dwell in the secret place of the Most High. But Satan, he's a seed eater, and so all the word that God puts in you, he can snatch that right up from us and it makes us blind to it. That right up from us and it makes us blind to it. So that's when we have to push through, sometimes even to be reminded of what the word says. Like a lot of times I'll talk to people and I'll say I know that, you know this, but let me remind you what god's word says in this particular incident that you're in Because Satan will blindside us to the truth, because he don't want us to walk in the truth, he doesn't want us to walk in the light, he wants us to be all scared and fearful and not being able to move forward. Amen, able to move forward, amen.
Speaker 1:Listen, when Satan came at me with that anxiety, you know that wasn't only hard on me, that was hard on Dave and Holly as a little girl. That had to be hard for her Because I just didn't operate the way a mom and a wife should. You know, I'm sure I distilled a lot of fear into Holly and I have tried with all of my heart to have broken that off of her. And even if she brings a fearful situation to me today, I will direct her that. You know that's not a godly way to think, because Joyce Meyer tells us this is the battlefield, this is where all the torment goes on and fear comes with torment. Remember when you as a kid, the other kids would tease you na na, na, na na. That's torment. Yeah, and that's the same. You think about it. Satan does the same thing. Na na, na, na na. That's torment, yeah, and that's the same. You think about it. Satan does the same thing. Na na, na, na na. I got you right where I want you. You know he bullies us. He's very clever and he knows exactly where to throw the punch to bring us down.
Speaker 1:Yes, and so these are some, some fears. Let's see. How about the fear of being in a cluster of people? A fear of failure, a fear of death, a fear of disease? How about a fear of spiders? I do not like spiders. I got a spider man over there. He takes care of them. How about a fear of driving? I've had that when I was agoraphobic. I couldn't drive. How about a fear of close spaces, a fear of heights, a fear of water? There, a fear of heights, a fear of water. There's all kinds of fear. Some people don't like the fear of clothing. That it's not a normal life, it's just. It torments and it destroys.
Speaker 1:So first peter 5, 8 says the enemy of yours, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour. And so you and I, we are not set apart from that. And John 10, 10. But the thief comes, but only to steal, kill and destroy. But I, god, have come that you may have life and have it to the fullest. I actually love that scripture because God just tells Satan just how it is. You know, you might have come to kill, steal and destroy, but I have come to give life and to give it to the fullest. That means more than we can contain, amen. And then another wonderful scripture that I just love is Isaiah 54, 17.
Speaker 1:No weapon formed against See I always put my name in there no weapon formed against Holly shall prosper.
Speaker 1:No weapon formed against Dave and Holly shall prosper. No weapon formed against organic church shall prosper. So put your name in there. Romans 8, 31. If God is for me, who can be against me? Amen, now think about that. If God is for me, who in this world could be against me when he is God Almighty? Because God brings his protection, and in that protection comes an assurance, and in that assurance comes a confidence. And so when we are confident in who we are in Christ, that is when you and I, that's when you and I are totally under the wings or the feathers of Almighty. It's that confidence, like we have confidence in so many things, I have confidence.
Speaker 1:I open my phone, it's welcome on. I have confidence in that breath I just took. I had confidence when we got in our car tonight it would start and bring us over here. We flipped the light switch, they came on. That's the kind of confidence we should have in God. That exact, without a shadow of a doubt.
Speaker 1:Oh you're sick? Well, without a shadow of a doubt, god's going to heal you. You know, I know that without a shadow of a doubt. Oh, so you're having a little bit of financial issues? Well, my God's got that. He says no weapon formed against you shall prosper if he before you who be against you.
Speaker 1:But see, then satan gets in our heads and our thoughts and it gets us totally off track, totally off track. And that's when we have to pull ourselves. I mean literally, you have to just pull yourself back and say Lord Jesus, my confidence is in you. We need a strong confidence in the character and the power of Jesus Christ. His character is unchangeable In his being, his wisdom, his power, his holiness, his justice, his goodness and His truth. We are fully trusting in Him to be with us in any challenge that we may face. That's any challenge that we may face that he goes before us. Amen. Anybody have any challenges? I have challenges every day of my life of some sort, something.
Speaker 1:2 Timothy 1.7, now many years ago. Let's see 40, maybe 40. Do you remember Nancy Maple? She gave me this scripture 2 Timothy 1.7,. For God has not given me a spirit of fear, but of power, love, self-control and a sound mind. And I've stood on that for years. He has not given me a spirit of fear, he has not given you a spirit of fear or dave or sis. That fear does not come from god, it comes from satan and so. But he has given me a spirit of love, power of, of self-discipline and a sound mind. And so when we get confused you ever, just sometimes get confused in your thought patterns Just put the helmet of salvation on. That's one of the armor, Part of the armor. Just put the helmet of salvation on and you will feel that. Oh, and don't forget to snap your chin strap, amen.
Speaker 1:So each one of us are called to be an overcomer, to overcome fear and to live with boldness. And so how do we overcome fear? We overcome fear by pressing through in prayer. You know when mishaps and circumstances and family and all that stuff comes crowding in on us. One of the first things that we forget to do is to pray. And you know, if Satan can get us away from our prayer room long enough, then he just has that much more time to do damage.
Speaker 1:But it tells us right there in verse five, that surely he shall deliver you from the snares of the fire and from the perilous pestilence, and he will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will take refuge. His Truth shall be your shield and your buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terrors by night, nor the arrows by day. And so I don't know if you've ever sensed, in times where you just feel the enemy shooting arrows at you, have you ever sensed that yes, no, yes, arrows, you know they're just. It says it right there that he's going to come at you with word and deed. It doesn't matter, he doesn't care nothing about us. The only thing he cares about is that the kingdom doesn't get advanced, and that's his whole thing. Is that we all stay stagnant, status quo, and the kingdom doesn't get advanced, and that's his whole thing is that we all stay stagnant, status quo, and the kingdom doesn't get advanced.
Speaker 1:Okay, so when we feel overwhelmed. I try to put my anxieties and my fears at the feet of Jesus by praying and asking him to take all of my worries. You know, sometimes we get so worried and so overwhelmed that we feel like we aren't no good for nothing. Have you ever felt that Just so overwhelmed by the cares of this world? Sometimes it just feels like somebody's just shoveling it on us More than we can bear. But God said he would never give us more than we can handle. But there again, that's our choice. We can either lay under that mound of crud or we can rise up, be confident in who Christ is and carry on. Amen, and that's what he's telling us to do in the secret place. Even though we're in a secret place does not mean that life isn't going to happen. But when we're in the secret place we can learn how to deal with the enemy. Amen, amen. Philippians 4, 6. Favorite scripture of mine. I lived at this address for many years, probably still do.
Speaker 1:Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be known unto the Lord. And so do you guys deal with anxiety. Do you know what that feels like, anxiety? Yes, you don't. Well, let me tell you what it ain't. Anxiety can make me get so flustered that I can't even concentrate to read. It feels like my eyes are doing this. I can't even concentrate to read. It feels like my eyes are doing this, and it used to be. You'd know in a minute, if I had anxiety, from my neck as far down my shirt you could see I'd be scalded red. That's just my body just showed that. Sometimes it makes me anxiety will come up on me and it will make me feel like I don't know where I'm at or what did I just say? I'm telling you it is vicious, it comes with torment, and so I have to say I know who I am in Christ. Satan, get behind me. Anxiety, you do not have a part of me. I am covered by the blood of Jesus. That's a scent of anxiety.
Speaker 1:Now, if that ran you straight in the ground and you couldn't get past it and like, just let me slow down. Yeah, like you couldn't get past it, but I don't want you to feel like that. Well, this is, let's do it. Let's say I'm going to do all this, as, unto the Lord, I've seen anxiety whittle 50 pounds off a day, that quick, just when he hurt his hip. Oh my gosh, he had so much anxiety, right.
Speaker 1:See, with me, the best thing I can do when I have anxiety is work, walk. But see God's our provider. Yeah, but see how the enemy snatches that from you. You know, have somebody, just have somebody say Holly, you know you walk by faith and not by sight. And maybe that has always took to bring me back to reality, just a statement like that, just because the scripture is our war, our sword, the bible's our sword to fight the enemy. That's why it's so important we have that in us.
Speaker 1:And there it is 2 Corinthians 5-7. We walk by faith and not by sight, trusting God and believing in His promises even when we can't see the outcome or the path ahead. That's what it means to walk by faith and not by sight. I know my God's got this and I'm my God's got this and I'm not going to waver, acknowledging your fears and surrendering them to God. You know how many times, god, I give to you this anxiety. I give you all my worries. I know that you're in control. You might have to do that every day for a year to get that breakthrough, but as long as you're persistent and push in and know that, know in your knower that God's got you, amen.
Speaker 1:You think fear just pulls them back, like they're so concerned that they're going to fall back. They fall back, then it pushes them right back to it to get away from that dismay. I've never dealt with alcoholism or anything, but I could only imagine that it's a horrible pit and I would believe it's a vicious circle Because as hard as you try to get away from it, it's right there on your heels continually. I know that's how it was with fear. There were times I would feel like I was in a tube of water and that I would be drowning, and every once in a while I could push and get a breath of air, but the majority of my life I spent trying to get the air at that time in my life.
Speaker 1:There was a time in my life. There was a time in my life when the enemy and I swear this to be the truth he had a tambourine and he thought he had such a victory over me that he rang that continuously around me. We had to stomp him out. We had to have the victory. We had to overcome. If I would not have overcome, I wouldn't be here preaching to you all today, amen. And now. Is that what he wanted? He wanted to keep me back there. He didn't want me to go forward, because I know that God gives me revelation that brings breakthrough to the body of grace. I know that. And another thing he always has tried to do is to keep my mouth shut, for me not to say or do or oh, maybe I shouldn't have said that, oh, maybe I should. You know what, if God tells me to do it and I know without a shadow of a doubt it lines up with his word do it. Amen, the enemy's not holding me back.
Speaker 1:Another thing that you can do whenever you're dealing with fear, false evidence appearing real focus on building a stronger relationship with Christ, that relationship. You know where you and Him are completely one. I know this year, my relationship. I mean I have worked on my relationship with Christ for the last 40 years. But I know this past year, the end of last year and into this year I have. He has become more and more and more of my best friend, like I can't even explain it. It's just like a door opened and I walked through it and it's like a whole new relationship with him Like I really desire to do things that I know he desires for me, like things you know.
Speaker 1:Satan tries to put ideas in our head, for us to say things, just to stir up a big pot of trouble. But I can't explain it. Like he's made me wiser in the words to say and way to say them and the way of acting and the way of conducting myself. I mean, I've always walked in a spirit of excellence, but I feel recently it's a deeper excellency, if that makes any sense, because he told me many years ago that you know, I was to walk in a spirit of excellence and I thought to myself now that's a pretty tall order, god, but you know what we can do, all things through Christ, who strengthens us. It doesn't mean I'm not going to make mistakes, it doesn't mean I'm not going to fail, but it does mean that in all of my trials, that I put my best foot forward and I continue to try to be the best me I can be for the kingdom of God. Amen, amen.
Speaker 1:And so, focusing on our relationship with him, you know, maybe I give him 10 minutes in the morning, maybe I want to start giving him 20. Maybe I spend 15 minutes in the word. I'm going to start giving him a half hour. Maybe I soak in his presence 10 minutes a day. Maybe, instead of watching that TV show in the afternoon, I'm going to take and spend that time with God and as you do that, you will begin to develop a deeper relationship with him and just talk to him, and then you know what I think the most important thing is Listen. Listen to what he has to say to you, because I can just go, but sometimes I just need to be still and listen. And the most amazing things he tells me he shares with me.
Speaker 1:And so when we are dealing with fear and we are in the secret place, we are putting our life and our well-beings and everything we have in his hands, relying on him and him alone to keep us safe, trusting in God's love. His love is everlasting. He is the same. Does anybody know that scripture? He is the same, what he is the same yesterday, today and forever.
Speaker 1:Hebrews 13.10. It's right there. God's love is our strength. That's it, isaiah 40, 31. You know this, chris. But those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings as like eagles. They shall run and not be weary. They shall walk and not faint. And my prayer is that I would grow in God's love and in his faith, and that I would grow from faith to faith, to experience, to experience. Do you know, if every day of our life was nothing but sunshine, rainbows and sprinkles, how would we ever grow? Do you know, if every day of our life was nothing but sunshine, rainbows and sprinkles, how would we ever grow? Do you know, if it never rained upon the earth, how would anything ever grow? Because it, you know, it takes it all to make us healthy, and so into every, a little rain must fall. But our confidence is that God's our umbrella, he's our protection and he's our family's protection. And Galatians 2.20,. Because of the unconditional love of God, you can live a very powerful life and live a very powerful life.
Speaker 1:Jesus overcame hell, death and the grave and gave us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Because Jesus, when he went, when they put him in the tomb for three days, it's exactly what he did. He overcame hell, death and the grave. See, satan thought he won the battle, overcame hell, death and the grave. See, satan thought he won the battle. Now, what do you think when Jesus come down off of that stone that he was laying on and he put his feet on the earth. Boy, how do you think the earth felt that? I'll bet you the grass shook and the trees clapped their hands and I'll bet you that the earth quaked, just to fill him again, just. And then I'm thinking Satan's like, oh my gosh, what did I do? What did I do? Because now he's the savior of the world. Not a one of us have to go to hell Because of what he did for us. So he overcame hell, death and the grave for you and I to have redemption, everlasting life and to be able to be in the secret place while we're on the earth. Jesus over.
Speaker 1:Let's see the word says that I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I that liveth, but Christ lives inside of me. That is a beautiful that is, of course, that's one of my favorite scriptures. But think about that when jesus came into my heart and I began to grow and I began, began to transform into the likeness of christ, it's no longer the old man that lives in me, but it's christ that lives in me, and that way, there I can do the things of god in a very efficient way Must be the heater. Maybe Be the heater. Maybe it says in 2 Corinthians 1.20, all of his promises are yes and amen. Do you have any idea how many promises there is in the word of God? There are over 8,000 promises in God's word for you and I. So no matter what circumstance we have in our life, we can get into the word of God and find a word to stand on and to believe that God's going to see us through that John 4, 18.
Speaker 1:Another one of my favorites Perfect love casts out all fear, because love and darkness cannot dwell in the same vessel. You can't have a light and dark in the same place. When that light's on, the light's on. When that light's off, the light's off. There's no gray area in Christ. He's amazing. He is amazing. His overwhelming love calms our fears and gives us peace and comfort. Have you ever been, have you ever been in a situation where fear has gripped you, just gripped you and you don't know what to do, and all of a sudden you just feel that peace of god and you just feel, feel that fear break off of you. Have you ever felt that? That's amazing. That's his amazing love, that's grace and mercy. When that, when that love breaks through the darkness and you're just like, I'll never forget, when my dad passed away.
Speaker 1:We had left the hospital and I was a complete wreck and I got in the car and I was just sitting there. Everybody else was getting in and I was just sitting there. Everybody else was getting in and I was just like God God, you got to help me. I'll never get through this and I felt that immediately. All that, I just felt that break off of me and I walked through peace through that whole time. But that was God, me and I walked through peace through that whole time. But that was God. I could never, I would have never made that through on my own.
Speaker 1:So Revelations 12, 11 tells us that we overcome by the blood of the Lamb, the word of our testimony and word of our testimony, and we love our life, not unto death. So I am so thankful for the blood of the Lamb. I would have never made it this far in life if it wasn't for the precious blood of Jesus Christ. But I apply it daily. I apply it. I mean, this is just the things God has showed me. I apply the blood of Jesus ahead of everywhere that I go and when I'm in circumstances where I don't know what to do, I draw a complete bloodline of Jesus Christ around me that the enemy cannot even begin to cross. I plead the blood over my family. I plead the blood over this church, from the tip top to the very bottom of it. I draw a bloodline all around it and I I ask god daily that no spirit can enter in here except the spirit of the living god. Amen.
Speaker 1:I mean, what can take away my sin? Nothing but the blood of jesus. I mean god gives us the authority to hold that blood against satan in every situation of our life. You see when, when satan sees me, he sees me through the blood, he sees you through the blood, because we are blood-bought children of God. Nothing but the blood, nothing but the blood. You know, I believe a drop could do it, but I ask for buckets Because there is power in the blood, there is forgiveness in the blood, there is healing in the blood. You know, he sacrificed for us and then said apply my blood. It's a great tool for us. Amen. Ephesians 6, 10 through 18.
Speaker 1:We overcome the enemy with love. Do you know why? Because the enemy can the enemy with love. Do you know why? Because the enemy can't operate in love. He can't counterfeit love, genuine, true, blue love. He cannot counterfeit it.
Speaker 1:It says put on the whole armor of God, which includes the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation to clear up all confusion, the sword of the spirit, the very word of God. Put our faith in God's power to stand firm against the enemy. And when we've done all but stand, we stand some more, not retaliating with evil, but effectively resisting it with love and goodness rooted in God's word. Our battle is not against flesh and blood, but spirits of principalities, evil, forces of darkness. The armor is not just for protection but also actively defending against the enemy's attacks. The belt of truth attacks the belt of truth. It's important of living a truthful life according to God's word. The shield of faith. It deflects the fiery darts of the enemy, which are fear and doubt and unbelief. The helmet of salvation clears up all confusion and reminds us of our secure position in Christ. The sword of the Spirit is the word of God, which is our weapon against the enemy Ephesians 6, 10, 18.
Speaker 1:The armor of God is our spiritual tool that we To protect our lives from the enemy and stand firm Against the evilness. We are equipped To overcome the enemy. When we overcome the enemy, we do that by choosing to forgive, we do that by living a contented life. We do that by living and walking in love and having the faith of God to overcome temptation. So, when we're armored up in His armor, those are the things that we overcome Forgiveness, contentment, love and faith over temptation. Because I'm telling you, whether you believe it or not, satan is constantly tempting us with something, always. That must have been the heat, because it got hot in here. For every issue in our life.
Speaker 1:God gives us a promise in his word to stand on and to believe. There are over 8,000 promises in God's word salvation, strength, rest, hope, joy, peace, wisdom, understanding. He gives us promises for when we're sick, that we will live and not die, but to proclaim the works of the Lord, standing on his promises. In Psalms 119.16, it says Sustain me according to your promises and I will live. Do not let my hope be dashed. And so when we stand on his promises, we stand upon the hope of God Psalms 119.162,. Rejoice in your promises like the one who finds great sparrows Psalms 145, 13. The Lord is faithful to all his promises and loving towards all he has made. So he made me, he made you, so he's faithful and loving towards us. When I had my open heart surgery in 2018, the psalm that I stood on was Psalms 27. And I think that's the psalm we're going to study.
Speaker 1:Next is Psalms 27. And it's a powerful word to overcome fear, because the word encourages us that, with God as your light and your stronghold, there is no reason to be afraid. The Lord is the light of my salvation. Whom shall I fear? The Lord is my stronghold of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid? Psalms 27.1. Declaring that, with God's protection, no threat can cause me to have fear Psalms 27. To combat fear God is the ultimate source of safety and security, overcoming darkness and fear. With his presence, confidence in God's strength. He is your stronghold. You can face any adversity, absolutely any adversity, without fear when you know that God is your protector. He is your shelter house, he is your refuge, he is your fortress. He is who you put your trust in, that he will deliver you from the snares of the flowers, that he will keep the perilous pestilence from coming upon you. He will cover you with his feathers and you will be hidden under his wings when we trust that he is our shield and our buckler and that we will not be afraid of the terror by the arrows by day and night. Amen.
Speaker 1:So for years, years, I'd be like Lord, place me in your secret place. For years, years, I'd be like Lord, place me in your secret place. I want to be in the secret place at the most high. Mother God, show me. Do you ever wonder how do I get to the secret place? Where is the secret place? What is the secret place?
Speaker 1:Okay, the secret place is your relationship with Christ. It's your confidence. It's your confidence, it's your refuge, it's your umbrella. But it is on your relationship in Him. Trusting God, you can find safety and protection under His care, like finding shelter in a secure place. But you build that secret place by your relationship with him, and the stronger you become in him, the stronger you'll become against the enemy. And you will know without a shadow of a doubt that that secret place is all around me, because my God is all around me, looked for it for years and it was on.
