Fatima Before the Miracle of the Sun: The Angel of Peace and the Eucharist
Before the Miracle of the Sun at Fatima, the Angel of Peace appeared and gave the Holy Eucharist to three shepherd children — a hidden chapter of the Fatima apparitions most Catholics have never heard.
Long before October 1917, heaven prepared the world through Eucharistic adoration, sacrifice, and reparation — revealing why Fatima is ultimately about conversion, not spectacle.
Most Catholics associate Fatima with the Miracle of the Sun witnessed by tens of thousands.
But before the crowds, before the controversy, before Our Lady ever appeared, God sent an angel.
In this episode of Advent Daily, we uncover the forgotten angelic apparitions at Fatima, when the Angel of Peace visited Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta — teaching them how to pray, how to suffer for sinners, and how to adore Jesus truly present in the Holy Eucharist.
This episode explores:
- The Angel of Peace and the Fatima apparitions
- The exact prayers he taught the children
- The Eucharistic Communion given by an angel
- Why sacrifice and reparation came before Marian apparitions
- How this hidden preparation led directly to the Miracle of the Sun

The first response to Fatima was not belief, but pressure to remain silent. Before the crowds, before the miracle, before the world ever heard the name, three children encountered something that no one could explain. Welcome to episode 13 of Advent Daily as we explore Marian apparitions in preparation for Christmas. Today's going to be a good one. Finally, we get to Fatima. They're all good, though.
I just feel like our lady is good everywhere. That's true. That's true.
The land around the village of Fatima was ordinary. Rocky hills, sheep, and olive trees. For Lucia and the cousins who often joined her there, this was daily life. Simple work, simple faith. But in 1915, as Lucia prayed the rosary with other village girls, something changed. Above the trees, they saw it. A figure like a man made of light. Not brilliant like the sun, but pale, almost translucent. It appeared on three different occasions. It said nothing. It did nothing. It simply watched. The girls were frightened. They spoke of it at home and were told to say nothing. Some in the village laughed at them. Others said they were inventing stories. A few warned them that such things could be a deception. Other children mocked them, called them liars. And slowly the children grew quieter. What they didn't understand was that this was only the beginning. The next time somebody would come from heaven, they wouldn't float above the trees. They would stand right in front of them. The year is now 1916, early spring. Lucia, Francesco, and Justenta are together in the fields. One afternoon, rain forced them into a rocky hollow on the hillside. They had been playing, and then they saw him, a young man made of light, clear as crystal in the sun. He came closer, his expression serious, and then he spoke, "Do not be afraid. I am the angel of peace. Pray with me. He did not come to comfort them but to form them. My God, I believe, I adore, I hope, and I love thee. I ask pardon for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope, and do not love thee. He knelt on the ground, bent his forehead to the earth, and repeated the prayer slowly three times. The children knelt with him, their faces pressed to the stones. the words sinking in. Months later, the angel returned, but this time his words carried urgency. The angel said, "What are you doing? Pray. Pray very much. The hearts of Jesus and Mary have designs of mercy on you. Make of everything you can a sacrifice and offer it to God as an act of reparation for the sins by which he is offended and in supplication for the conversion of sinners. From that moment forward, the children began making sacrifices. The sacrifices were difficult. Later that autumn, the angel appeared one final time. The children were praying when a light appeared above them. This time, the angel held a chalice and above it a host from which drops of blood fell. The angel prayed, "Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, I adore thee profoundly. I offer thee the most precious body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges, and indifference with which he himself is offended. And through the infinite merits of his most sacred heart, and of the immaculate heart of Mary, I beg of thee, the conversion of poor sinners. The angel rose. He gave the host to Lucia, the chalice to Francesco and Justenta. He said, "Take and drink the body and blood of Jesus Christ, horribly outraged by ungrateful men. Make reparation for their crimes and console your God." For a long time they remained there, silent, without strength, incapable of speaking or rising. Three times the angel of heaven visited the three unknown children from rural Portugal. He taught them to adore, to sacrifice, repair. And then he never returned. Winter came. The war pressed on until May. It was May 13th, 1917. The children were tending their sheep in the Kova de Aria. A flash of lightning, but no clouds. They saw a lady dressed in white standing on a small home oak. Lucia asked, "Where are you from?" I am from heaven. I have come to ask you to come here for 6 months in succession. She asked for prayer for the rosary. Pray the rosary every day to obtain peace for the world and the end of the war. By July, the crowds were growing. And on July 13th, the lady spoke words that would change everything. In October, I will perform a miracle so that all may believe.
In our next episode, we'll follow the miracle that was witnessed by tens of thousands of people. But today, Janella, what stands out to you so far? Okay, first of all, I didn't realize that there was other children that were there in the very beginnings when that angel or, you know, appeared. And then um I I know that the angel came to the children with or Lucia and her cousins. I knew that and that he gave them communion. So it was interesting. I just didn't realize those details. Yeah. And one detail that I picked up in the research was that when they received they were unable to move. Mhm. Like Lucia describes how they just couldn't get up. They couldn't speak for a long time. This was some sort of phenomenon that they experienced. And I I I kind of missed that as well. Mhm. I love Fatima. Yes. I feel like it's the the first Mary and Apparition I ever heard about and so it's kind of been with me since I was a little girl and so I know my parents have this beautiful statue of our lady of Fatima and I just I just love her. So we have done 33 episodes on Fatima. It's uh it's a Fatimus series that was sponsored by our friends and clay ministries that's on our website for you. We've done a lot of research on this and one thing that's always strikes me is the the environment that our lady goes into in Fatima. That village was poor. Uh it was unknown. In other words, it was just a humble village. People were not really attached to wealth and money and and that's where our lady went. Mhm. And sometimes when we can witness poverty, our first reaction is how can we change the social economic status of the people. The queen of heaven didn't focus on that. Their their lives were difficult. So let's not sugarcoat this thing, you know, like their lives were hard. They didn't have a lot of money. They were poor. And the queen of heaven didn't come to them and say, "You know what? I'm here to make your life easier." No, she called them to conversion. Mhm. And so this speaks to me about have we in the church lost the primary mission that Jesus Christ gave his apostles and that is to make disciples of all nations. Are we getting sidetracked with all these other issues that are in the world or we focused on bringing people to heaven? That's the mission of the church. That was the mission of our lady. And this is what we need to be focused on. Our lady didn't come to deal with getting people out of poverty. She didn't deal with come and talk about the thermometer issue if that's something that's really concerning you. She she didn't talk about trying to figure out how to have brotherly fraternity with every other person in the entire world. Now, are these things can these things be important? Yes, but they're not the primary objective and mission of the church. And so that is what we need to live out of when when we think about Fatima, we think about okay, how can I convert my heart over to the Lord. So any other thoughts or we could Okay. So our lady of Fatima, pray for us.
