Let me ask you something…

Have you ever had a day where you’re trying to run your business, your kids are asking you a million questions, your brain is constantly going, going, going… and everything just feels like a mess?

The house is a mess.
 Your thoughts are a mess.
 Everything is a mess.

Well… that was me yesterday.

And you know what? That’s exactly why this morning we’re going to talk about the reality of balancing a family and a business.

Good morning, and welcome back to The Rich Auntie Podcast.
I’m Keia, your host—and your favorite Rich Auntie

And this morning… I’m going on a mini rant.

Because I had a day yesterday.

You know those days where everything just feels chaotic? Like nothing is flowing the way it should?

Yeah… that was me.

And Monica’s song “Just One of Those Days” kept playing in my head. I even had to play it because I was like—this is the exact vibe I’m on today.

It was just one of those days.

I was getting work done… but if you have kids—especially my boy moms—you already know:

“Mommy, I’m hungry.”
 “Mommy, look at this.”
 “Mommy, guess what happened…”

It’s always something.

And I love that they want to share. I really do.

But when I need to focus… when my brain needs quiet… and I don’t have that luxury?

That’s when everything starts to clash.

At one point I literally thought…
“Do I need to go hide in the closet so they don’t find me?”

Because that’s how it felt.

And let me be honest…

Yesterday, I was not the best mom.

Did my kids think so? Probably.

Because I ordered pizza.
 I did not cook dinner.
They were living their best life.

Meanwhile, I looked at the dishes and said:

“Not today.”

Eventually I got them to bed, swept the floor in between everything, and went back to work.

It wasn’t perfect.

But it was real.

And here’s what I believe:

Every day is a lesson.

So after everything settled, I asked myself:

“What can I do 1% better tomorrow?”

Because sometimes we’re looking for a mile…
when really we just need an inch.

Life is a game of inches.

Now here’s the real conversation…

The Reality of Balancing Family and Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship is sold to us as freedom:

Freedom of time
 Freedom of money
 Freedom of lifestyle

And yes—that’s true.

But what people don’t talk about enough is this:

You’re going to work.
And sometimes… you’re going to work more than you ever have.

And there’s something else people don’t say enough:

There is tension.

The tension between building something meaningful…
and being present for your family.

Because both matter.

Your family is part of your journey—whether they signed up for it or not.

They see:

• The late nights
 • The thinking
 • The wins
 • The frustrations

They see all of it.

And honestly?

That’s real life.

I heard Shonda Rhimes say something powerful.

She said, when she’s succeeding in one area, she’s likely failing in another.

Now some people didn’t like that word—“failing.”

But I understood it.

Because if you’re giving 80% to one thing…
you only have 20% left for something else.

We are human.

We have limits.

So yes—yesterday, my kids saw a version of me that was overwhelmed.

And I had to explain to them:

“Hey… if you see me focused, give me a moment.”

Because I never want them to feel ignored—
but I also need them to understand real life.

Let’s Talk About “Balance”

Because I think people misunderstand it.

Balance does NOT mean everything is equal every day.

Some days:
 • Work gets more of you
 • Family gets more of you
 • Rest gets more of you

Balance is not equality.

Balance is awareness.

It’s noticing when things feel off…
 and making adjustments.

Not just pushing through.

And that’s when something clicked for me:

We talk about business systems all the time.

• Marketing systems
 • Sales systems
 • Financial systems

But what about your life systems?

Your Life Systems Matter Too

• Your routines
 • Your household structure
 • Your morning rhythm
 • Your daily flow

Because when your life systems are off…

Everything feels heavier than it needs to be.

Entrepreneurship will stretch you.

It will test your patience.

And yes… sometimes your kids will ask you a million questions
right when you’re trying to think.

That’s life.

Some days are smooth.
 Some days are messy.

But what matters is this:

You’re paying attention.

If you are building a business AND raising a family…

Give yourself grace.

Daily.

But also give yourself discipline.

Adjust when things aren’t working.

Get 1% better.

Because building a rich life isn’t just about what you earn.

It’s about the life your family experiences with you.

Your children are watching.

They’re learning.

They’re growing with you.

And experience?

That’s the best teacher.

So as you go throughout your day…

Think about your life systems.

Think about your family.

And think about how you can make it just a little bit better.

Alright…

I hope you enjoyed this conversation.

And I’ll see you on the next episode.
