Welcome to Around the Bases the pop culture and sports podcast with your host.
Speaker 2:Charlie Seymour.
Speaker 1:And I'm Tim Sternberg. Hit it, nick. Alright, we are back. Hey Charlie. What's going on, buddy?
Speaker 2:Not too much how you doing.
Speaker 1:I'm doing great. I'm ready for baseball Baseball. We started practice this week and I'm excited. It's another great week of around the bases. Things are going well, man, your Cubs are. What's the record?
Speaker 2:They're the only team in baseball with a win.
Speaker 1:That's right. The cubs played the dodgers today and, uh, defeated them handedly I will say and the dodgers then?
Speaker 2:the dodgers are the only team in baseball with a loss.
Speaker 1:Loss, that's also fun yay, what was the final score?
Speaker 2:it was. It was 12 to 4. Oh, that is pretty handedly. It is pretty handedly and you normal and let's, let's be real for a second spring. Training games don't really matter, however, but but the cubs played essentially, an entire backup team and they still won dodgers had some regulars in the lineup. I'm not saying they didn't play their normal lineup. Who pitched for the dodgers? Uh, this guy named uh yamamoto ever heard of him?
Speaker 1:he started the game I'm trying to figure it out and uh who he bets played for the dodgers as well. You might know who that is yeah, he, he was on the Red Sox, I think right, some big-name Dodgers did play in the game. And the Cubs had their second tier.
Speaker 2:The only, I would say, regular Cubs.
Speaker 1:So some AA AAA players.
Speaker 2:Michael Bush was the only regular.
Speaker 1:Okay, so some AA and AAA players and some 26, 27, 28, 30 bench. Some bench guys yeah, like Vidal brujan.
Speaker 2:yeah, he played center field because the cubs are thinking he could maybe be a fifth outfielder, slash infielder, all packaged in one. I think they wanted to get a look at him out there so no kyle tucker today no, no other no, happer no other other than Michael Bush?
Speaker 1:No other Cubs. Starter was in the lineup, all right, okay. Well, who pitched for the Cubs Started the game? Now, mind you, in spring training folks, they only pitched two innings. Maybe three innings. Cody Petit, okay Do you know who?
Speaker 2:that is no idea. You know why. You know why he's a significant name, why I'm putting this in air quotes if you're just listening to this but he was the return for Cody Bellinger.
Speaker 1:Oh, so a Cody for a Cody.
Speaker 2:He's a swing man and we saved about $25 million in money.
Speaker 1:So a Cody for a Cody, speaking of, that saved money.
Speaker 2:They did reinvest it in a few moves. Another move the Cubs made pretty interesting and I I like a lot the cubs said justin turner oh yeah, I was gonna talk about that.
Speaker 1:Wow, former matt, former dodger, uh, justin turner, guy's just a winning ball player, good clubhouse guy.
Speaker 2:He surprisingly still has it. He has not had a below average league average hitting season in his career and last season he was still 17% above league average. And even better when he was traded in September and the reports were he turned down multiple offers for more money because he wanted to be a cub. So those are the things you kind of like.
Speaker 1:Is he from Chicago land? Is that why he wanted?
Speaker 2:to be a cub.
Speaker 1:I think his wife is okay, I mean honestly that chicago's such and I'm not just kissing your ass because you're here, but chicago is such a great and we talked about this is such a great baseball town. It's a great sports town, but particularly a great baseball town, and I could see it. I mean mean the fans at Wrigley. I 100% see that.
Speaker 2:Why not? He's a good piece. He knows his role coming over, so he's another interesting guy to have in there.
Speaker 1:He's a badass. I think he's one of those. We talk about clubhouse culture. He's one of those clubhouse culture guys. I think that's going to be good for the Cubs. I think he's going to lift up some of your guys that maybe have some assurance issues.
Speaker 2:And some good leadership for the young quarter guys like Shaw.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I think he's going to be good.
Speaker 2:Looking forward to that move.
Speaker 1:I think it's going to be a good chemistry for the Cubs and real excited for that. Speaking of chemistry, did you see today the video of Juanan soto gifting brett baity with a chevy tahoe like pickup truck?
Speaker 1:like trade jersey number dude, that was such a great I that made me smile, man. That video, yeah, when you sent that to me I was like. When you sent that to me I was like I knew, I knew you would love that. I immediately was like, because, you know, I look, I always look at things above the surface, you know, or under the surface, however you want to, kind of perspective, but in perspective. But it's just such a culture thing for the other guys to say how legit juan soto is. I mean, mind you, a forty thousand dollar car probably is a drop in a bucket for Juan Soto, of course. But it's not about that, it's about the dude just doing the right thing that was his paycheck for today.
Speaker 1:Yeah, like for two hours. Right, exactly For his two hours of spring training workout Workout a one one cage.
Speaker 2:he ran second to third a couple times and he said you know what guys don't pay me today? Just give baity this car and they said, okay, deal.
Speaker 1:So I funny a couple funny stories regarding that real quick. Uh, eduardo asked baity yesterday for his insurance information and baity's like what the heck is going on? Apparently eduardo knew that the baby wanted a chevy tahoe, so told juan soto um, so that's the interesting thing. And also, before juan soto had his press conference back in november, when he was signed, he called brett beatty to make sure it was good with him and brett beatty's like yeah, man, it's just a number and it just. And juan soto's, I'm going to take care of you. Brett Beatty didn't do it for any expectation of anything. It wasn't an agreement. I love that. You know what this young kid just respecting.
Speaker 2:I love it man Cubs have a similar one this season. Not quite the same, because Juan Soto signed for $700. That's okay, though Insane amount of money. But when Kyle Tucker came over to the Cubs, do you know who had his number here in Chicago? Who Did you hear about this story? No, it's someone who. Let's play it here.
Speaker 1:I love these games.
Speaker 2:Someone associated with the Cubs? Okay, obviously this person has a world series ring okay, has a ring associated with the cubs oh, he played at least a couple seasons right in front of your home, your quote unquote hometown, not actual hometown, but where you live. Oh, here there.
Speaker 1:Um so here's a Marlin.
Speaker 2:Mm hmm, um so there no Uh now keep in mind how I phrased the start of this. I said associated with the Cubs because he might not be a current player.
Speaker 1:Oh, he was traded already. No, oh.
Speaker 2:Maybe he just has a different position within the Cubs. That also he wears a uniform in the dugout.
Speaker 1:Are you talking about Andre Dawson?
Speaker 2:Who's the Cubs manager? Oh really Craig Council? Really, Craig Council had Kyle Tucker's number before Won a World Series. For those of you who were playing along, he won a World.
Speaker 1:Series as a player for the Marlins 1997.
Speaker 2:They probably went nuts when they won it.
Speaker 1:It was probably a very fun year.
Speaker 2:Yep, that was a funny. We've talked about this team before on this podcast Florida Marlins. We won't rehash it too much, but I mean, come on just for a second, jeff, conine council, conine hernandez, luis castillo, I mean there were some, we could do this for a while, but yeah, anyways, moises aloo yeah, florida, florida.
Speaker 1:Jim leland was the manager the florida marlins yep, uh, they weren't. The miami marlena was a 20 year old rookie cup of tea yeah, miguel cabrera, miggy cabrera, um, and he was on the 2003 marlins yeah, seriously, we did, we talked about this probably oh yeah season one of this podcast yeah, yeah, but but yeah, I mean that 97 team will always be tucker wear this full circle so we don't go too far off track.
Speaker 2:This was soto baity trade for the jersey number. Kyle tucker said that he's going to get something for council, but he wanted to get to know him first. So for the first like week or two he's been getting to know him and then we'll the few days my guess is we'll see what Tucker ended up getting him.
Speaker 1:And this is the manager. So this is true leadership the manager giving up his number for one of his players coming in. And honestly, even before he ever was a manager for the Brewers, before he was a manager for the Cubs, craig Council is one of my favorite Marlins from that team. I love him. He played shortstop he just he played everywhere. Yeah, yeah, he had a play during the 1997 World Series that basically won it for the team. He was a legit player for the Marlins and for other teams.
Speaker 2:And it's a funny dynamic Not quite the same where in New York, Soto, biggest contract in the history of sports gifting a car to a guy on a minor league salary, not making a lot of money, However Tucker, not making nearly as much as. Soto but Council also making some pretty fine money himself, so he doesn't really need a Juan Soto type gift.
Speaker 1:No, but it's the kindness of maybe he'll get it. Maybe Craig Council likes cigars and he'll get him. A Council likes.
Speaker 2:Notre Dame. I wonder I wouldn't be surprised if he got him like Notre Dame season tickets, football or something I know it would be hard for him to win a lot of the games, but he could go to some of them.
Speaker 1:So wait, you're telling me Council's a rival of yours.
Speaker 2:I didn't know that yeah, kind of.
Speaker 1:Hoosier's rival is Notre Dame.
Speaker 2:More.
Speaker 1:Purdue, but that's okay, purdue, yeah. So baseball dude, I'm excited. I am Sunday, I'm going to my erica and I are going to our first spring training game. We are driving an hour and a half up to port st lucie to see the mets take on the marlins. Um, I'm hoping, you know, because there's no, there's no promises in spring training, so I'm hoping I see juan soto, maybe get lucky and see him.
Speaker 2:It is a split squad chance you'll be.
Speaker 1:It'll be sunday, you said sunday yeah, it's sunday, it's the first game and of course, no, it's the second game. Born, their first game, saturday. Um, you should at least get to see some people, even some players, you know my concern is it's a split squad.
Speaker 1:But if it's a split squad and they're playing at another park, I'm thinking they're going to keep most of the stars in the home park, because that's what they want people to see. So, yeah, I hope pete is there and I mean it's not like I haven't seen maybe send one or two each place.
Speaker 2:Matt's got a lot of big names. You know what I mean. There's a nice yeah, that's a nice thing like the mats they can. You could legitimately have them all being playing in split and no matter what, you're going to get to see a few big names.
Speaker 1:I'm excited. I mean, and the next day we're driving back home On our way, home is Jupiter and we're going to go to Roger Dean Stadium, which is the home of the Cardinals and the Marlins for spring training, and we're going to see the Cardinals play the Mets. So you're going to root for the.
Speaker 2:Mets that, and we're going to see the Cardinals play the Mets, so you're going to root for the Mets.
Speaker 1:That's a split stadium. Cardinals-milans no, that will not be a split game. So, oh, that's yeah. Spring training yes.
Speaker 2:Yes, so that means you're in for a treat. You'll get to see the electronic ball strike system. It's at all the dual stadiums. That's how they did it, to maximize its use. Oh, I can't wait I don't know if you got to see it, but it was used today. Oh I did not see it. They successfully challenged in the first or the second inning.
Speaker 1:And they won it. So it was the Dodgers home stadium right today, Correct? And they share it with the White Sox, correct? Okay, See, I know some things there you go.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it's all the shared stadiums have it, so there's a few other ones in arizona have them, and a lot of them are in florida yeah, so another roughly two-thirds of the league another shared stadium that I will be going to eventually is in west palm beach.
Speaker 1:that's the houston astros and the was Washington Nationals share a stadium, so I will be going there. That's actually the closest to me, but it's my least favorite for some reason. Who are they playing so?
Speaker 2:I don't know yet. Oh, you're not going to a game specifically.
Speaker 1:Not yet. It's going to be either the Nationals versus the Mets or the. It has to be the Mets, I'm only sticking with the Mets. Or the Astros versus the Mets or the. It has to be the Mets, I'm only sticking with the Mets. Or the Astros versus the Mets. I'm thinking the Astros versus the Mets would be a little more entertaining at least, or some resemblance of stars on that team.
Speaker 2:You never go to a game just to go to a game.
Speaker 1:I do sometimes.
Speaker 1:Sometimes I've gone non-Mets but I'm so hip on the team you'd want to go see so, on the west coast, you got uh, in fort myers, you got the red socks um, I like to see them. I have not done that yet. I haven't gone to fort myers to see baseball, um. And then, of course, and up in the tampa area or on the way to tampa, you have radenton, which is the pirates, I think, uh. And then you got the tigers in sarasota and you got um, the orioles are up there also, uh, the phillies are up there, the um, uh, the uh yankees and, of course, the tampa bay is up there.
Speaker 2:So what I was?
Speaker 1:I was meaning was the closest stadium to you most conveniently West Palm Beach Correct?
Speaker 2:Is there another major league team that would play there that you'd be interested in seeing and you'd go just for just to go, the most convenient playing, you know the Orioles or?
Speaker 1:Yeah, any. Well, you see, the problem is because of the way our geography is. In florida it's a little different in arizona. In florida, the teams on the east coast don't play the west coast that often because there's a lot of travel involved. So it's like usually once, once in spring training, and usually towards the end they'll play each other. But there are teams, of course I would love to see um, especially the blue jays are in dunedin. I'd love to see the blue jays. I'd love to see vladdy, you know, and our buddy, uh, davis, um, davis, yeah, I'd like to, you know. So I'm thinking and erica doesn't know this yet, but we might do a west coast trip, uh, probably around st patrick's day and when you say west coast, you're saying west coast, west coast of florida, yeah, just to just See.
Speaker 1:In Arizona it's a little different and you've been there, I have not, but the two kind of patches of spring training are not that far away from each other.
Speaker 2:Well, yeah, I know. I just wanted to clarify for geography. You know we got people listening everywhere.
Speaker 1:That's true. Oh, by the way, we have listeners I appreciate that.
Speaker 1:Thank you for that. I do, you're good, you're good, you're good. Pass the. Yeah, we have a listener dude in Australia. Speaker 2:um traitors I had to be oh, my god, um, you know.
Speaker 1:So I'm going to preface this by saying this my my review of the episode in one line one of the best episodes I've ever seen. Now what's?
Speaker 2:your review in one line. Um so, earlier in the day, well before the episode was out, I shared a tweet with you and one of our other fellow trader watchers, michael shout out michael from ohio, what's up mike. This won't be a spoiler for the episode, but she simply tweeted to all my fans. I'm so, so sorry. And then she used the gif of homer simpson going back into the bushes, which is like one of my all-time personal favorite things of things which was in the back of my head the entire time me too, I'm not gonna lie.
Speaker 2:so the whole time I was like really looking forward to this episode and, as you said I to sum up what you said it did not disappoint me it was good dude.
Speaker 1:I mean, I understand a lot of people are a Carolyn fans, I understand it. But I feel like this and we're going right to the roundtable. We'll kind of backtrack in a minute, but I feel like it was a battle of the wits and it was going to be Carolyn versus Danielle, and may the best woman stand at the end, whoever did a better job. And, quite frankly, at that round table Carolyn didn't stand a chance against Danielle and let's talk about why that is.
Speaker 2:That was such unbelievable gamesmanship by her in the turret.
Speaker 1:We were watching live chess in the turret dude. We were watching manipulation of the mind. Go explain what happened that.
Speaker 2:So basically they were, they were by, they were tasked by alan. Before the challenge were to begin, they were asked questions who they think is the most threat, biggest threat to the game, who was the biggest talker? There were basically four questions of who they thought the consensus was and they would pick an answer. And I don't know how. I don't know how danielle did it, but carolyn basically floated an idea and then Danielle basically got behind Carolyn and just puppeted her through exactly what she wanted to do and she somehow got Carolyn to agree to put Carolyn as one of the answers, which they know.
Speaker 2:The whole point of the game was, if they all agree and get the answer right, they'd add money to the pot. So if you know what the answer is, you're going to naturally kind of steer money into the pot, even if it's at your own demise, without realizing it. And I thought that was just unbelievably well done by her. The last couple of weeks I got to say we were being a little hard on her and I thought she deserved it and she may have. She could still be in trouble. We'll get to that in a little bit gabby. As far as it goes, for this moment in time she definitely saves her butt and at least prolonged her another another two people she.
Speaker 1:Let me tell you something she literally gave the noose and let carolyn basically do it herself. And when you fast forward to the challenge, carolyn is literally without knowing it because she is so ditzy she's literally throwing herself out there and they keep panning to dylan effron's face and you see dylan effron's face in real time, start computing that this isn't right and then I'm like scrouting yes, dylan effron, yes, you got it, you got it. And I was like, I was so like, like seeing the light bulb moment in real time.
Speaker 2:It's just something about it. You know who else noticed that in real time were our guest stars.
Speaker 1:Oh yes, poverty and Kate and Kate. It's so weird to see Poverty on this show knowing that she's actually in the island somewhere too. So you know, it's a little weird because you know one day, and just for, for, for, for, for, for argument purposes and just for clarification deal or no deal, island taped before the traders or no taped after, the traders after after. So yeah, there you go um, but that was pretty. I loved having them there.
Speaker 2:I thought it was very interesting yeah, they were pretty spot on with some of their observations too they were, which is crazy because you think they were watching the whole season and they're like and and they got how, how ridiculous thompson, but yeah, she so.
Speaker 1:So danielle basically let carolyn shoot herself in the foot, and it was enough to sway, and it was enough to put doubt in the people's minds. And, sure enough, when the votes started to come, you know, uh, carolyn got that dylan affron vote and I and I kind of knew at that- point a couple of the swing votes, and Dylan was definitely one of them yeah, and can we just talk about how Tom and how they keep voting him and I?
Speaker 2:forgot her name. Yes, we can talk about that, because before we're sitting there, the round table, before they actually vote ends, and I the first thing I said was wow, can you believe he just ended it and they've only talked about two people the whole time? And then the first thing I said to Rosie after that was I guarantee you it's going to get to Tom and everyone's going to be voting a very specific way, and then Tom's going to be like nope, nope, I'm voting Dolores. And then Tom voted Dolores and I got off the couch, started laughing.
Speaker 1:Me too, and then Dolores voted for Tom.
Speaker 2:Of course, one and one Right back at each other.
Speaker 1:So basically, they just wash each other out, and you know, so they're not really playing the traitors.
Speaker 2:There's only eight votes, so those are big votes, right there.
Speaker 1:But you know they're not playing the game seriously. If they're doing that honestly, just imagine if both of them voted for Danielle instead. So that's the question I have for you. So they previewed at the end and we're going to talk about the end end, but not yet. After the roundtable they show Gabby talking to a couple of people and going, but that seemed like some trader on trader stuff. Yes, I wonder, though, if I'm in that house and I'm going to give you my thinking at this point. I'm thinking I got all the traders out. There has already been three traders that were kicked, and you know you again, you don't know a recruiting. But if Danielle I think Danielle did a great performance after it was revealed, and almost I thought at that moment, when you know it was revealed Carolyn was a traitor, I thought, oh my God, daniel's in, like Flynn, for the rest of the show, because there's no way they're going to suspect her.
Speaker 2:I think they still think there's one other traitor because they kept saying girls plural. There were two girls left. I think they all pretty much assumed that rob was an added one on top of it because rob came in later, otherwise they might have thought that they were all done. But I believe it was um iver who said we're, we are, we're pretty sure it's two girls still. So I think they think there's still one left. But to your original point, suspicion is still on Danielle because of the arguing. And then the other thing Gabby said was she felt there was major Rob and Bob, the drag queen vibes, and both of them agreed as well. So unless they can get suspicion on someone else, so that tells me something.
Speaker 1:So I think, well, we saw the preview and it was very predictable. I mean, danielle is going to recruit, uh, brittany um a fellow big brother reindeer reindeer games. First, full circle dude. This is crazy heartbroken to accept, I think. Well, if she doesn't, she's killed right, that's what I'm saying now britney's not that stupid britney will accept. And they show in a preview britney's face.
Speaker 2:I don't know if they did that to throw us off, but I'm pretty sure, I'm pretty confident britney's going to accept and, and I think honestly- danielle could also pitch it well Like listen, I was hoping the whole time to get the two survivors out to recruit you. You can go back. I've said it for multiple episodes. I was just praying not to keep you alive, to get you there long enough. At that point, will Brittany be looking out for herself, or will she trust her?
Speaker 1:That's a good point, I think you know. I think Brittany owes it to Danielle based on and for those of you who don't remember or remember, we actually covered this in the beginning of this podcast way back when, but Brittany and Danielle were on a short lived series last December called reindeer games big brother reindeer games and there was a a wheel.
Speaker 2:Are we going to call it a series, that we're going to call it all? Right, we're a one-off. Yeah well, a two episode. Big brother's been off with elves and stuff like that.
Speaker 1:But uh, so there was a challenge where there was a hamster wheel with time I I'm kind of recalling it from memory and uh, britney pretty much screwed danielle over in that challenge and dan Danielle was sent home, and so there was animosity between the two of them, carried over into the traders, and I think Brittany kind of feels like maybe she owes it to Danielle, maybe I don't know.
Speaker 2:I like that, I like that theory.
Speaker 1:Let me tell you something. The Big Brother fan in me was like yes, yes, I'm so excited To see Brittany and Danielle team up as traitors. That is like for the five.
Speaker 2:They're the final seven. Yeah, and it's gonna be final six because they still, then they're gonna murder who. Who's your top nominees for it, dude?
Speaker 1:they have to take dylan out. They have to get rid of dylan bro they have to.
Speaker 2:They've been waiting too long, I think he's getting too close, I think.
Speaker 1:Dylan and gabby I think gabby's dangerous too and and eva ivar ivar I, I think those are the three that are really, really dangerous. I think you can leave dolores and tom alone and they're gonna keep voting for each other until the end, that's true I would just leave them alone. Gotta keep them yeah because they're so stupid.
Speaker 2:Especially now, set you down to seven when they murder you down to six. Two of six votes is one third. Yeah, if they stick together with the votes, they can easily bully out the other couple people.
Speaker 1:I think two things happen Either Brittany and Daniel both make it to the end, or if one of them leaves, I think Brittany wins the whole thing. I really do. I think Brittany has a good shot.
Speaker 2:Unless, unless they all vote Brittany out also at six. Maybe, that's the only way she could go. Yeah, it's solid.
Speaker 1:Such a good show, it is such a good. It's like if I'm like screaming in the house yes, yes, yes, you know that's a good show. Come on, know that's a good show. Come on, like that's crazy. And so it was renewed for seasons four and five, which is exciting, and apparently real reality tv fan on instagram said that they're going to be shooting it in april, which is exciting.
Speaker 1:I I have to back with uk and celebrity uk I think taylor hall is a good shot of being on there. Maybe, if not taylor, there's going to be some big brother representation, I feel like, because big brother oh yeah and survivor. So hey, if for survivor you don't know who might show up, I mean there's so many people they can still use for for all of it, so I'm excited, I'm real.
Speaker 2:Really I love that I'd like to see them mix in a few other random I mean I'd love to be on there. Go right ahead. I'd like them to see. Could they get see? The problem is when they film it. It's like it takes away all the basketball players, the baseball players. Could they sneak an nfl?
Speaker 1:player in there. That would be awesome to see. I would love that and they, you know I mean I wouldn't. I wouldn't be upset about possibility um, you know, and also there was some actor, actress, something like that. That would be. I love it, dale. You know, honestly, dylan efron was kind of a nobody before this and I he's become one of my favorite characters he's great, he's.
Speaker 2:I like how, got a brother who can act, by the way.
Speaker 1:Zac Efron yeah, he's pretty good. He's actually in the comedies with Seth uh Rogan. Pretty funny Actually, neighbors.
Speaker 2:How about the sad movie where he plays the brother with Jeremy Allen White?
Speaker 1:Oh, yeah, yeah, he's a great ally. I'm a fan. Yeah, yeah, I'm a fan. Yeah, yeah, I'm a fan. Um, I was going to say there's some complications, though, with big brother, because I don't know if we talked about it on this. I think we did. Big brother is going to. There's going to be like 15 big brother contestants with their family members on the amazing race coming up.
Speaker 1:That's right, so there's a little overlap there and I kind of feel like Taylor might be on that instead of this, so we'll see how it kind of plays out.
Speaker 2:It is a CBS program.
Speaker 1:We might you think you think we might. I know you're not going to like this and we're going to talk about this show in a minute. Do you think Dr Will might show up on the traders? He did retire from reality.
Speaker 2:He is available now.
Speaker 1:He's no longer, uh, on a show, so deal or no deal, island happened. Um, we will say it happened, uh, and it started with our buddy philip laying down harriet tubman quotes and saying, uh, bringing up her name and kind of making a moment for himself. And you know what? We'll advocate for Philip to go on the next season of the traders. That would be amazing. Our buddy Mike is definitely one.
Speaker 2:I mean, they had poverty on again, so maybe she can put in a good word that's right, and you know poverty and Philip were working together and maybe she owes him one maybe she does, who knows?
Speaker 1:so the at the beginning of the episode they had an elimination because we were. We were robbed from that, uh, the previous week, and seychelle was eliminate.
Speaker 2:Seychelle was eliminated, right um, and she, she, uh, she went out with some. She went out of bank yes, against she was going to get her shots off.
Speaker 1:CK is not have a lot of fans. I will say, let's put it that way and honestly I'm not a fan of her either.
Speaker 2:She wasn't wrong.
Speaker 1:No, she was not wrong. I mean, I kind of agree, ck, you know there's a thing. Tell me how you feel about this. We both watch a lot of reality TV. I think there's a line. So you do want to be a good villain, right, you want to be a good villain, make good TV, but there's kind of a line when you go from being a good villain to just being an asshole. I mean, you know what?
Speaker 1:I mean Right, and you don't want to cross that asshole line. Speaking of which, um, so the, the bankers will, um bye, dr will adios that was.
Speaker 2:That was pretty satisfying.
Speaker 1:I'm not gonna lie don't let the door see you. I mean I you know it's hard for me because I usually watch these shows ahead of you. Not to spoil anything, I was like, oh man, charlie's gonna love this, charlie's gonna be like yes um.
Speaker 1:But yes, dr will was eliminated um by the aussie survivor who people are starting to kind of get. I don't. Will they understand that he was on aussie survivor? I don't know. They keep talking about it. I feel like it's gonna pop up at some point, like I think that one of the better chances of someone figuring it out.
Speaker 2:Just walked out that door in dr will because will he was on it. He's like you've won something before and like I don't.
Speaker 1:He's ready to win it our buddy philip pretty much nailed poverty pretty quickly so maybe he kind of has a. I don't know how much reality tv he watches. I know he watched. We are family, I, I think.
Speaker 2:I think the fact that it's australian might be enough for them to not know, because I wouldn't have known it, and I'm a pretty big junkie, I don't know, that's what I'm saying, like you had to, really specifically now so will.
Speaker 1:Apparently is is retired, so there you go, I I just I'll say so.
Speaker 1:He claims he was a season, so will was, and we talked about this. But real quick, he will one season two of big brother. Um, and he was dr will and you know he was just. He has not changed at all in 30, in 20, 24 years. So 2001 was big brother season two. He hasn't changed at all. He's just as obnoxious as he was back then. So it's not surprising to me. I know you didn't watch season two of big brother, but if you go back and watch that and you big watch big brother all-stars, where he was on the season with danielle reyes and britney haynes, so that's interesting. Um, yeah, he was not. Yeah, anyway. So bye dr will, and we have another. Philip survives another week and I'm rooting for him, that's that's our compadre.
Speaker 2:He's starting to be getting to a real possibility. Yes, wow, and another another $1 shy of a million added to the pot. I mean, the number's getting big.
Speaker 1:Number's getting big. Philip has a chance to be the star player.
Speaker 2:How'd it do it? A little, a little more than the star player. Yeah just had to do it a little, a little more than the star player.
Speaker 1:Yeah, just a bit our player times like 150, um, but it's pretty. You know, every time I watch him on the screen I'm like that's just crazy. I remember talking to him and I'm like it's nuts. You know, it's just great. It's funny how things work out. But yeah, uh. So, um, speaking of game shows on Fox, we are family.
Speaker 2:Beautifully done, beautifully done Take us home.
Speaker 1:Let's, let's take it home with the floor. See you're, you and I are up on the season. I mean, I've watched last season. You still have to catch up on last season.
Speaker 2:I, yes, I have not seen season two and thankfully you're a man of honor, a man of integrity. Yes, yes, I will not spoil you have not spoiled it for me, and which is amazing because, like you know don't get me wrong we like the floor, but it's not like survivor or big brother or something where, like, oh no, I'm worried about spoilers. So so hopefully no one, no one, spoils that for us I think you'll'll be all right.
Speaker 1:Um, I think so too I it's. A season two is very good.
Speaker 2:We will do it at one of these days, but we, we once, once, uh, well, we'll see. We got survivors starting up again soon. We'll see. It'll be tough to squeeze in. We do, I'm on one day or 49?
Speaker 1:uh, is it 49?
Speaker 2:yeah, no 48, 48 49, 40.
Speaker 1:Yeah, uh, it's 48. Uh, it's exciting. I mean I'm I can't wait. So the floor. There were some categories you were talking to me about that you loved what was one of those yes, um sports mvps.
Speaker 2:Oh, that was. Uh, that was up my alley what do you?
Speaker 1:how? I mean I? I bet you got every single one of them um, I, yeah, most of them, I can't remember. To be honest, they had a they had a new twist an association category.
Speaker 2:You saw that yes, that one, I thought was. I liked it First of all. Shouldn't they probably have gotten 50 seconds instead of 45?
Speaker 1:Yeah, I know, it took longer.
Speaker 2:Because it takes an extra second or two to get those clues out there.
Speaker 1:It did, and you had to listen to Rob Lowe say them.
Speaker 2:And most of the time they wouldn't guess until they saw at least two. Very occasionally they saw one, would they?
Speaker 1:one guy finally guessed one early but the third clue was it give me like it was exactly.
Speaker 1:I mean, I mean I got I would say I got about 90 of those and islands is I was wondering how the heck were they going to do. They really should have done mountains like that too. To be honest with you, I mean, yeah, um, you know geography and me you know, you remember trivial pursuit and I kind of didn't do that category. So, yeah, I'm not, I'm not big on geography. Um, there are some categories out there still I love, like TV moms is a category. I can't wait for that one.
Speaker 2:College basketball.
Speaker 1:Yes, and you did. You see that. So the girl do do do the guy her category, because she didn't want him to. It's something about college. He knew college basketball and he ended up getting the category.
Speaker 2:So, yeah, I think there's a lot of psychological things going on that you have to say, oh no, I am the expert in this, and I mean to intimidate people and yeah, we also need to mention how a lot of the times okay, we credit is given and and questioned. A lot of the times the randomizer we feel is not very random and why I say this is we had an instance again happen where someone's like no, you know what. I'm going to go back to the floor. Randomizer hits it one touching it, and then they have to go back up again.
Speaker 1:The randomizer was on the left side a lot.
Speaker 2:I will. Here's where I was going with that. So you have that where we questioned the randomness of it. But at the same time, brian our good old pal from the movie Clerks and Clerks 2, and he goes eight or nine battles, keep in mind with the most territory and not one of them touches him, so he wins the 20k again.
Speaker 1:By default.
Speaker 2:Simply because that shows you that's pretty random. Honestly, the odds are probably better that one time it would touch him because he has so many pieces there's, you know, it's more than just he has nine pieces. So he's touching nine, you know, because one piece can touch a bunch of spots yep, I will say this real quick before I get corrected by our listeners.
Speaker 1:And it's not judging amy, it's chasing. Amy is another kevin smith movie, so sorry about that oh, I didn't even.
Speaker 2:I didn't even hear that.
Speaker 1:So yeah, I said judging amy, but you know we have some listeners that know their stuff and I want to make sure that. Yes, I'm sorry about that, um, but you know there were opportunities for people to get more spaces than him with one duel and they chose not to. If I'm in that situation, honestly I'm going to go for it because I want 20 grand and not leave with nothing, because eventually, the odds of you winning money on the show are not great If you have the opportunity to win the 20K not great if you have the opportunity to win the 20k.
Speaker 1:So the one guy did say that the more times you battle, the greater the chance. This is true and that's true, but you know one or two battles and just to try to get the money I think is worth the risk now here.
Speaker 2:What about this theory? Now I'm using your own logic and statements as a little devil's advocate here.
Speaker 2:You said that you noticed you felt the randomizer was heavy on the left side tonight. The last couple at the end who went back, who could have done what you said. Maybe they felt, hey, a lot of the left side's already been randomized. If the randomizer really has to hit all the ones one time before it repeats, maybe it won't come back to this side for a couple episodes and all of a sudden there's only 20, 30 people left. Then, you know, things get interesting to that point You're right.
Speaker 1:I mean, there's a couple of corners that are in a really good spot, because you know if you're a corner and you're surrounded by people that have already dueled you're so sweet and that's, and granted, I did not watch.
Speaker 2:We haven't seen season two yet, but season one. That's pretty much what happened to one of the people I mean they were buried in the corner and then all of a sudden final like three or four people, and they're one of the people I will not spoil season two, but yes, uh, and we won't re-spoil season one, but that could happen again, is all I'm saying.
Speaker 1:Correct, Correct, and so you know, we'll see what happens. I would love, I mean I would love, to go on the floor. I mean I think I would have a ball, but yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 2:Yeah, that's all I'll say about that. That's all I'll say about that, that's all I'll say about that about that.
Speaker 1:That's all I'll say about that. That's all I'll say about that.
Speaker 2:Okay, but I love the floor and I love fox and everything it's.
Speaker 1:It's honestly it's it's still pretty, it's a pretty fun show yeah yeah, I wish I would bring back this show over here. Do you yell out?
Speaker 2:the answer as fast as you possibly. 100 make sure you say it faster than okay.
Speaker 1:How do you know me so well? Because you probably do the same thing. Of course, I'm like this.
Speaker 2:Faster faster Like I'm practicing and then you say it right, but only partially, so then you redo it a second time.
Speaker 1:Does it drive you crazy, though, that some of them are like yes they're so. I'm like, what are you doing?
Speaker 2:we had. Yeah, let's talk about I think his name was seth. He sat there with 20 seconds left and he basically the equivalent of he took the snap, took a knee and then sat there and handed the ball to the ref and then but the only difference was he did this when his team was losing.
Speaker 1:It is so frustrating how slow some of these folks are. Do you realize? It's a tough? And what makes me crazy, too, is when the other person answers and it goes back to the other person or they pass on something and they just forget that it's their turn.
Speaker 2:That's what happened to that one lady as well. Yes, oh my God.
Speaker 2:The crowd's like they told her she ended up losing anyways. But for a moment. All right, she, she, this is where she forgot. The crowd yelled at her. She said oh okay, and then answered she was down about eight. I'd have to go back and watch it again, but it was like about 18-ish. No, it was like 18 to 20. But then it got to all of a sudden the other person passed twice and then all of a sudden she was back to within a couple seconds. But then she struggled again and then lost. But it made you wonder. Had she not the first time completely zoned out, even only for half of it, it could have been a battle. All it takes, you know, is a couple, you miss a couple and then you panic, as we saw in another one, a couple of the battles later. Same thing happened, bro man.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it was one of the male duels, but yeah, it's fun to watch.
Speaker 1:And you know news, uh, hollywood squares was renewed for season two, and I say good news because a lot of our audience likes to audition for game shows. So as soon as they have that audition information I'll share it. Um, but that's exciting, um. So yeah, and there's auditions happening right now. I know big brother, season 27, is taking applications and there are other shows taking applications and you know, eventually I you know I'm over 31 pounds lost and when I get to my goal weight survivor- one and a half 31 and a half pounds, don't sell yourself short I'm losing that kind of you know um.
Speaker 1:I am real excited to audition for survivor Hopefully. So yeah, I'm.
Speaker 2:I know it's not your cup of tea, but I don't want to jinx it, but you're probably going to be a third of the way to a to a hundred on Monday.
Speaker 1:Hopefully, bro Hopefully I mean I'm by my calculations. I so my goal weights one 70, that's 92 pounds total loss. I could get there by September, october. So I'm hoping, I'm hoping when I see you this summer, I'm hoping I'm a pretty big way away. National convention in Chicago this year, folks.
Speaker 2:Keep working at it.
Speaker 1:Yeah yeah. Anything else you want to talk about?
Speaker 2:You're almost at the number that Soda traded for.
Speaker 1:That's right, that's right.
Speaker 2:Full circle, bringing it back to the beginning of the episode Love it. Yeah, but we got, we got. We got Survivor coming up soon. We got more baseball coming up soon. We're we're home stretch. We're about to start seeing the sun. A lot more Things are moving.
