Fox's dramatic shift to an 80% reality TV lineup for fall 2024 reveals how production economics are reshaping television content. Charlie and Tim break down the most noteworthy additions and renewals, including The Floor's two-season renewal with filming underway in Dublin, potentially featuring reality TV celebrities. They explore how established properties like Fear Factor are being reimagined for contemporary audiences with "Fear Factor: The Next Chapter," which adopts a shared-living competition format.
The conversation delves into the fascinating phenomenon of shows migrating between networks – The Weakest Link with Jane Lynch and Fear Factor both moving from NBC to Fox, highlighting how intellectual property value now transcends network boundaries. For fans of scripted content, the hosts offer a glimpse at The Office spinoff "The Paper," spotting Oscar Nunez in the background of first-look images while lamenting the premature cancellation of Suits LA.
The discussion shifts to the competitive Mets vs. Cubs series, where both teams proved why they're legitimate playoff contenders. P.J. Crow-Armstrong's impressive performance, joining Kyle Tucker as one of only three MLB players with double-digit home runs and stolen bases, took center stage. The hosts analyze the beautiful production quality that allowed fans to experience these exciting matchups through SNY's stellar broadcast approach.
Survivor strategy becomes a key talking point as Charlie and Tim critique players' hesitation to make bold moves, particularly missing the opportunity to eliminate Joe. They note how this season feels surprisingly "old school" in its alliance approach, predicting that the failure to target power players could dramatically alter the game's outcome.
The episode wraps with excitement about their mutual friend Eugene Beyond appearing on The Price Is Right after waiting the required ten years between appearances, with his episode set to air the following day. Whether you're a reality TV enthusiast, sports fan, or game show aficionado, this episode captures the pulse of today's entertainment landscape with insights only passionate fans could provide.

Welcome to Around the Bases
Speaker 1Welcome to Around the Bases the pop culture and sports podcast with your host.
Speaker 2Travis Seymour.
Fox's New Reality TV Lineup
Speaker 1And I'm Tim Sternberg. Hit it, nick. We are back for another awesome week here on Around the Bases, a pop culture and sports podcast. Charlie, what's going on, man? Not too much. How are you doing? I'm doing good, dude. We're going to talk about it a little later in the podcast, but we had a fun series this weekend up in Citi Field with the C and the mets and, uh, we had some little fun going back and forth and, uh, just what we would expect. Uh, it's good, so we'll talk about that. Um, we got some reality news, charlie what?
Speaker 2what's the news around the horn?
Speaker 1you started off I'll start it off. So reality news. Sorry I'm a dork, uh, a fox. Fox announced today we're recording this on monday, um, a new fall schedule. And what's interesting about fox's new fall schedule is it comprises about 80 reality tv. I mean, it's there's kind of following through with what cw started doing last year when it added trivial pursuit and scrabble. And whose line is it anyway there? And honestly I it's. It's understandable because reality tv is much cheaper to produce in scripted television, you know, can you imagine I don't know if you know how much an episode of the boys costs to produce oh, it's something crazy, I saw crazy amount of money because it's awesome but special effect, it costs money.
Speaker 1So you know, network tv, they're looking to, um, save some money and so they announced some interesting picks. I'll say I looked at it, I I was like, wow, um, and I'm going to withhold judgment because it's brand new and we don't know. We know a little bit about one of these, two of these in particular, and we'll talk about that in a minute. Um, but, uh, we'll withhold a little bit of judgment. So I'm going to list some of the shows that Fox announced today for the fall. Uh, I'll start off with our favorite show, that's not we Are Family, and that is, of course, the Floor. The Floor is renewed for seasons four and five, which are currently filming as we speak in Dublin Ireland. They're filming it right now and I am hearing rumors that season four has a lot of reality TV stars in it.
Speaker 2Now what does that mean? When we say reality TV stars?
Speaker 1I cannot tell you I don't know, that's true.
Speaker 2So general.
Speaker 1It's very broad right.
Speaker 2And it's Fox related, so like no, they can have other networks. Right, but you know, fox, they might not want to showcase other networks too much, that's true, um, but uh, yeah, I I love the floor.
Speaker 1I think it's a great, well-produced show and, uh, I look forward to two more seasons of it.
Speaker 2I I enjoy it tremendously what else is on that lineup?
Speaker 1so name that name that tune is coming back, um, not sure. I I've heard rumors that it's going to be regular people again because in the last couple seasons, you know, they've had um celebrities. And name that tune, of course, is hosted by jane krasinski and randy jackson. From american idol is the musical uh in charge and I enjoy I always since I was a little kid back in the day. Kathy Lee Gifford was the singer on Name that Tune. I always loved that show, so I'm happy that that's back. Our, not our buddy. But the great Jamie Foxx is coming back with Beat Shazam, so that is coming back.
Speaker 2I heard about that one Interesting.
Speaker 1There's a couple of shows moving from NBC to Fox, so these are moves that are happening. The first one is the Weakest Link with Jane Lynch is moving to Fox from NBC and it's going to be a celebrity version of the Weakest Link.
Speaker 2Is that a common thing for shows to move from a network to a network like that?
Speaker 1not that it's happened before, of course, so different strokes is one of the most famous things I remember as a kid. It was on abc for years and its last season it moved to mbc. It does happen, um, but I don't very often hear about it happening with unscripted. Um, I mean american idol, of course, years ago made that jump from fox to abc. Um, but it really wasn't a jump necessarily, because both fox and abc are owned by disney.
Speaker 1So, um the fox, television is owned by disney so this one is a non-same parent owner yeah, and I'm hearing from the reports that they are going to bring Jane Lynch back, because of course Jane Lynch originally was on Fox on Glee. She plays Sue. Sylvester Loved that show. I was a big Gleek, I was a fan of the show and it was back when I was teaching so I related with Mr Schuster. Yeah, I know a lot of trivia on Glee.
Speaker 2But you, um.
Speaker 1Yeah, I know a lot of trivia on glee, um, but you remember glee, I do, yeah, okay, okay, I didn't watch it, but I know I'm. No, you were not you. You're not that, that wasn't you.
Speaker 1That's, that's definitely a tim show there was a good office episode about that there was, and, speaking of the office, real, off course, real quick, but they did just show the first look of the paper, which is the office spinoff coming to peacock, and you can see oscar nunez in the picture, which really is awesome. I love that they have a connection to it.
Speaker 2Right, it there's, that's good yes, oscar, you could see sitting in the background. Yeah, and also the one of the main characters I guess he's supposed to be playing the boss role is played by Dominic Greenhall. I can't think of his name off the top of my head, but he's the one who's standing up in the image.
Speaker 1You and I are both, I mean for our audience. Maybe they don't know, but we are both big Office fans. We definitely. Yeah, when they announced this originally, I I went crazy. I was so excited. I know you're withholding a little bit of anticipation because they just canceled the first season of suits, which you liked and, uh, I get that right before the the final two episodes aired too they didn't, they didn't air the final no, no, they're gonna air them, but the announcement happened.
Speaker 2I know it's it kind of takes the wind out of the sails right it does because you know it's ending and there's not gonna not gonna be a full wrap-up, probably no, no, and they're not gonna come out with like a suits movie or anything like that it's.
Speaker 1It's sad because I was we were just talking about suits like maybe a week ago and I was saying I'm glad that they brought harvey back, because harvey probably was my favorite character in the original series um, he really drove the story okay you ready to get new information for you?
Speaker 2sure? Last night's episode lewis came back oh, I loved lewis.
Speaker 1Lewis is such an obnoxious guy.
Speaker 2I loved him, so we'll see if they have any more, any more up their sleeve.
Speaker 1A fine finale, but did they move lewis to the firm in la? Is that what?
Speaker 2no um, without giving away too much, lewis and one of the main story of this version's characters are at the same, like they're at like a meditation retreat for anger management oh my god, and they become and they become friends. It's. It's honestly, it was pretty funny anger management.
Speaker 1That's all you have to say, because I know exactly the character that's funny.
Speaker 2they realize that their two guys, who are the reason why that they're there, are both friends with each other, harvey being Lewis's.
Speaker 1So that's hilarious, that's hilarious, yeah. So. So yeah, I mean I'm, I'm excited. I am excited about the paper coming out. Knowing that this is the same creators as the original office, I think it'll be successful. It is streaming on Peacock and Peacock tends to be a little more giving and gives a little more leeway to shows to be successful because it's a streamer. So that's exciting. I'm excited to see that. So the other franchise coming to nbc from fox I mean from to fox from nbc is fear factor. You remember fear factor, hosted by joe rogan way back in the day.
Speaker 2Yeah, that was. That was pretty old, wasn't it?
Fear Factor Revival & Network Moves
Speaker 1yeah, I'll. I'll explain the premise of the show for those of you who are probably too young to remember. So fear factor. It was a show on NBC ran every Monday. Every episode was self-contained, so it's not like your typical reality arc series where you know you have the same people from week to week to week In every episode. There were three challenges in the episode there were six contestants, three challenges. Usually the challenges were one was like a challenge where they're either jumping off a truck or doing something like that. The middle challenge was almost always a challenge involving rodents, insects, nasty food to eat, something gross in the middle. And the last challenge was usually a one-on-one type or two one-on-three, or it was like a competition, kind of like the wipeout and game and wipeout. It was kind of that type of of competition. But uh, fox announced today that they're gonna call it fear factor the next.
Speaker 1I can get the exact yeah it's like, it's like all the people in one season, kind of like a survivor big brother type, right yeah, fear factor, the next chapter and yeah, they're all lived, they're all dropped off in some kind of weird house somewhere and they're living together, uh, and they have to compete in the house in challenges and listen. This was one of my complaints about got to get out, because there were no challenges on the show really. So, just alone and having the house and challenges. I'm excited for it. I mean, I was. I was honestly fear factor back in the day. I loved that show. I watched it every week religiously. Um, I remember at universal studios and our buddy mike was talking about it there was a traction called fear factor live, where they actually I know a couple of people I know that participated in that. So I honestly believe it will be extremely successful.
Speaker 1And now, in this day and age, with streaming and there's no for sure whether or not they're bringing Joe Rogan back, I mean, everything aside, he has a very popular podcast and fan base and I'm sure he'll bring a large audience if NBC does decide to bring him or if NBC decides to go a different direction, they are currently, I believe, hiring showrunners and if you don't know what a showrunner is, a showrunner is not you but in general audience, a showrunner is someone, basically the executive producer of the program, who basically makes most of the decisions before the network does, and so they're in charge. Basically, they're like the chief operating officer of baseball, major League Baseball, the president of Major League Baseball team. They make the decisions that drive the production. So I mean I think it's exciting. I you know, as a reality fan, I do love unscripted drama too and unscripted comedy, don't get me wrong. But I like to see more game shows and reality shows on television, and there are some shows that haven't well, so we didn't talk about this.
Speaker 1House of Villains is moving from e to peacock oh yeah, that's right not a huge move, because peacock I mean nbc, yeah, um and house of villains is supposed to premiere in january. So can you say coupled with traders?
Speaker 2I was literally just going to say I bet you they have it at a specific time once a week like traders, because it did pretty well in that, so maybe they're going to try to piggyback off it and I think it would be a real um, a smart thing for nbc to universal. They'll do. They'll do.
Speaker 1Traders drops at eight, house of villains drops at nine, something like that yep, and here's an interesting thing too they um have not yet announced the season premiere date of big brother 27 um, which normally, by now, they would have announced I was gonna say it's usually right around.
Speaker 2You said mid-may right yeah, so I'm hearing.
Speaker 1I did hear that Amazing Race season 28 is premiering this fall. So putting two and two together, I'm going to imagine that the finale of Big Brother will run into the premiere, Right, and I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see Julie Chen at some point on that season of Amazing Race. It would only make sense. They do end up in New York and I do believe that's her Amazing Race. It would only make sense. So they do end up in New York and I do believe that's her home base.
Speaker 2Does she host that as well?
Speaker 1No, Phil Kogan hosts the Amazing Race.
Speaker 2Okay, that's what I thought.
Speaker 1But I'm thinking because it's a Big Brother season of Big Brother contestants.
Speaker 2Oh, maybe there's a duo host. A challenge or just a challenge. I'm sure she shows up at some point.
Speaker 1I'm thinking and I'd be interesting to see if they bring over any of the, you know, power of veto or you. So yeah, that is our reality television roundup. Real exciting for us TV reality geeks, of course, and there is another Squid Game to challenge to coming out eventually. I heard that was filmed, so cool.
Speaker 2And regular Squid Game.
Speaker 1And we have also this new show ticket that is casting currently, that is coming, based on willy wonka and a chocolate factory. Um, so, yeah, some good stuff, really good stuff. Um, we'll have a lot to talk about, my friend, we will. Uh, well, we're definitely not lacking for talking. We have not, yeah, and they haven't. I haven't heard an announcement yet on deal or no deal island, although I cannot imagine that not being renewed. I think that's going to be renewed. I can't. I don't think it did that badly.
Speaker 2You know what I mean and they'll always throw in a couple like it'll probably start in January. Poverty type of reality celebrities to keep the interest up.
Survivor Post-Tribal Discussion
Speaker 1Yeah, and it's being a poverty shallow. She mentioned on a podcast that she is working on a reality show concept of her own and that she says has never been done before. Very cool, be interesting. Yeah, I look forward to that. All right, so that is our roundup. So we might as well round up down to Reality Road and Survivor. Mary Mary, quite contrary, she has a lot of fans, apparently. That's all I'll say about that From the jury. Yeah, yeah. Well, I mean also from apparently in the Instagram universe site.
Speaker 2Oh yeah, I know I was just saying that her biggest fan was clearly in the jury.
Speaker 1Now can.
Speaker 2I ask you a question. Wait, hold on, let me just stand up here, go ahead, you do it. You've been menacing for like two straight minutes.
Speaker 1You ready, ready. And for those of you who are listening, I'm basically staring menacing not really menacingly into the game also standing while everybody else is seated.
Speaker 2What oh?
Speaker 1why is that?
Speaker 2by yourself on an island, literally the dude is a little scary.
Speaker 1That was something, but what was the point of that? Like it wasn't intimidation. And again he again, charlie, was at the entire tribal council with not a single smile. David, it's a game, it's a game show. What are you doing like? Yeah, lighting up bro show of solidarity for mary I get it, but the whole, like the whole menacing dude, what are you doing? Like it's a game show, I don't know. Like I don't. I almost feel like he's trying to audition for the next one.
Speaker 2You know what I mean or or, like you mentioned, he knew that his home life was going to be no longer the same, so he was just throwing it out there.
Speaker 1Yeah, it's a shame what happened. Oh, you know I I'm not surprised. I wasn't listen. I wasn't surprised Mary was was voted out. I was disappointed Mary was voted out, not because I'm a huge fan of Mary, because I felt as a as as a fan of the show. I don't know how you felt this was the time to get joe out. What are you doing? What are you doing? Why wouldn't you vote joe out?
Speaker 2oh yeah, huge, huge opportunity missed also a mistake a whole, the whole episode was pretty much a nothing burger another nothing burger, two nothing burgers in a row. They they pretty much just let are letting the main group. We called this a couple weeks ago. Unless someone made a big move, this is exactly what was going to happen joe and eva are going to start picking them off. They're going to start being picked off not only that, but she still has multiple things to use, and she's going to get to use them now.
Speaker 1But if you, if you write, and if you eliminated Joe, if you voted out Joe, it, even if she has multiple things, it weakens her.
Speaker 2It weakens her. What do you do to use them on herself? Now she has options.
Speaker 1This nothing burger of a week, charlie, I'm going to tell you, and I know you're going to agree is going to end up shifting the game. If they had voted Joe out, I think the result would have been widely different than whatever it's going to be, and I predict at this point that Joe and Eva are going to end up in the top three. Um, I just I didn't want Mary to win, but at the state I'm kind of rooting for Kyle. Honestly, I like Kyle, yeah, but I just don't know, like why wouldn't, why would this? And Kyle kept saying throughout the episode I have to make a decision, I have to make a decision. Why was that the decision? Like, what was the thought process behind that?
Speaker 2They should. I mean the voting went what six or seven to one, so I think he thought there weren't enough people, for sure, willing to do it and he didn't want to put himself out there and expose it.
Speaker 1I do have a question. Do you think that I understand that point, but do you think that maybe he feels, maybe in the back of his head, that he can beat Joe on challenges, so it doesn't matter?
Speaker 2Potentially I I mean he has beaten him before. He felt it's a not just an easy. Another week or him and his secret number one can get there, and once they get down to like five or six, they might only need one or two people to flip, instead of needing like three or four just in case to get the numbers right it's a good point so we'll see.
Speaker 2I think the big key will be in this next episode. If neither eva or joe win immunity, if both of them are exposed, you could either force multiple things used this week or take one of them out. It's got to be done this week, though. They can't wait another. They've already waited two too long. Can't make it.
Speaker 1Third and the play too, in my opinion, is that you pretend you're voting somebody else out and you make it so that she doesn't use one of those or you oversell.
Speaker 2She thinks it's going to be Joe, plays it on Joe, and then they do something else. Or you oversell, you know she thinks it's going to be Joe, yeah, and then they do something else.
Speaker 1This is. You know, listen, I've told you my feelings on. That's why I feel like this season is not, as I don't think they're thinking strategically.
Speaker 2They're playing like it's like it's like 2010 Survivor.
Speaker 1Yes, that's old school. It does seem old school, you're totally right, like they're in there for 36 days, which they're not See back in old school Survivor, you had three days between tribal councils and you had a lot of time for the social game. This is not that. This is like next day we're doing a challenge, next day we're I it's.
Speaker 2It's not that this is one big, strong group of a core alliance, picking off everybody one at a time and honestly, joe is extremely like likable by everybody on that jury.
Speaker 1I don't see like almost everybody on that jury yeah, they're they're.
Speaker 2They waited way too long. You know dave is gonna vote for joe. I mean, come on, they waited way too long.
Speaker 1You know David's going to vote for Joe. I mean, come on, alpha male, alpha male. Of course he's going to vote for Joe. It's almost the case of if I don't vote for you, then I'm weak because I'm voting for someone that's weak, that beat me. David's the type of dude that's going to vote for Joe. I can see.
Speaker 2Unless Joe's out.
Speaker 1Right, unless Joe's out and then he'll vote for Eva is my guess. Actually, I think Eva has a strong case of winning the whole thing, even with Joe in the game.
Speaker 2Honestly, there's a couple other people we've mentioned that if they just keep stringing along, could be real wild card to the throne Shaheen Shaheen they keep showing him To the throne Shaheen.
Speaker 1Shaheen. They keep showing him, camilla.
Speaker 2Camilla.
Speaker 1And my favorite part of the season has been Camilla and Kyle's friendship. I've loved how you know listen. You often see these alliances in reality shows where the contestants, you know, kind of pretend to be in an alliance but aren't really in an alliance. They are true. I love it. I love the you know ride or die aspect of with air, because that's kind of, yeah, that's how anybody who wants to really win a reality show should play. That reality show is ride or die. You have an alliance, you make an alliance, you keep the alliance, you never betray the alliance, um, and you stay loyal.
Speaker 2So old school survivor old school survivor.
Speaker 1Um, this week we will have the, and I know you don't watch, but the finale of the amazing race is this week. Uh, it's a double episode. Wednesday is a normal episode, thursday is the finale, and then we have the finale of survivor coming up sunday um, this sunday, I believe this sunday. Up Sunday this Sunday, I believe this.
Speaker 2Sunday, really.
Speaker 1Let me check.
Speaker 2Oh, I didn't know, I didn't realize that. Why Sunday?
Speaker 1Well, it's a mid-month usually. Let me check, maybe I'm wrong.
Speaker 2Interesting. I always thought they just kept airing out. I'm sorry, you're correct, it's.
Speaker 1Wednesday. I'm sorry, you're correct, it's wednesday, may 21st, so it's the following week is okay, yeah, this is the penultimate penultimate, yes, penultimate.
Speaker 2I never understood that word I just know it means second to last thank you you're welcome oh man. Oh dude.
Speaker 1Um, so yeah, that is, that is, uh, that is survivor and either way, even as as lame as the season might be, it's still going to be fun to watch.
Speaker 2So yeah, and they've the big. It's going to be a big battle at the end with a lot of big players who are still there. Yep, Usually a few of them are mode, are mode down, so we'll see. It could be an interesting finish, honestly.
Cubs vs. Mets Series Recap
Speaker 1I'm excited for it. Speaking of great things to watch, we teased at the beginning. Let's talk about it the Mets versus the Cubs. I what's your overall impression of the series?
Speaker 2It was pretty good. Most I mean first game wasn't great, but the rest of the series was great. Well, it was great for me, I mean great for you. I just meant in terms of an overall competitiveness.
Speaker 1Yeah, I agree, I agree, I think we called it, though I mean I think the teams were pretty much on par with where we thought it, though I mean I think the teams were pretty much on par with where we thought it would be yeah, we.
Speaker 2I was just hoping there were no sweeps around and there weren't. In fact, we got a rubber match, which is always good let's play a respectful game on saturday, yeah you guys, you guys played a great game.
Speaker 1Um, yeah, I I enjoy, I like it was. It was good. I I um something about when I see, now that we've become friends you know I've always liked the cubs, we've talked about this, but to see our two teams play each other, I don't know something a little extra special with it.
Speaker 2Um, yeah, especially when both of them are good and there is.
Speaker 1We didn't know this. Like, come on you, even you, mr baseball, mind we. It was great with tucker, but we didn't know that our two teams were going to be as good as they are. I mean, we knew tucker was gonna was gonna give a lot to the cubs, but my god, we both had them as playoff teams.
Speaker 1We did, we did, we both did say that yes, 100, um, but the car. Let's talk about the chicago cubs real quick. I mean, p crow armstrong once again showed why he is not only being talked about by you and I, but the entire league is buzzing about p crow armstrong because, quite frankly, he's blossoming this year.
Speaker 2This is his year, yeah um get in the league in war entering tonight.
Speaker 1Yeah that home run he hit with. Yeah, it was a yesterday's game.
Speaker 2It's crazy that was the middle game. Second middle game yeah oh my god, that was sunday's game, that was. Yeah, it was yesterday.
Speaker 1Yeah, yeah, that was a crazy home run dude. I'm like wow, um. And then of course, it was a double pete homer pete alon.
Speaker 2So that was Cubs Pete's 10th of the season and that made him one of three players in the majors so far with double-digit homers and double-digit steals, two of those three being Pete, carl Armstrong and Kyle Tucker.
Speaker 1Amazing. So what do you think? Do you think the clubhouse is lending to his blossoming? I mean, I wonder what that is.
Speaker 2Um, yeah I mean he definitely had a big second half last year. The signs were there, but this is definitely taking it to the next level peter armstrong, of course, uh, former met minor leaguer.
Speaker 1They endlessly talked about it during the series this weekend.
Speaker 2And they showed a bunch of the reunions with him and Vientos, vientos and him are really close, beatty, and. Alvarez, that was cool to see.
Speaker 1Yeah, you know, I mean look, you go into trenches and you know how minor league ball is. You go into trenches in minor league ball, you become it's almost like being on a game show in atlanta.
Speaker 2You become extremely close to people.
Speaker 1You know, because you're dealing with the bus rides, drama, bonding and bus rides and yeah, and the changing in tents staying in the hotels together for those of you who don't know, you know, and we're a family. We had a change in these tents. It's weird.
Speaker 2I don't think they have to do that though.
Speaker 1No, they don't. They're a little better than us we have the zipper.
Speaker 2They might stand it true, though.
Speaker 1This is true, this is true. But you know, I mean, and so yeah, them kind of connect him and vientos especially look like, uh, they were, they were pretty close, um, so yeah, and baity red hot baity is bats is crazy there was a one game in one game he had two homers and he was basically the hottest player, the one that cubs won the game he homered the day before, the day before or after.
Speaker 2That too crazy um, yeah.
Speaker 1So I mean I I was very pleased with how both of our teams overall performed. I mean it didn't look like we were watching two of the best teams in baseball absolutely 100, no doubt yeah, it was.
Speaker 2There were some really good games we and also also, um, you know this and I know this because we watch a lot of baseball. But what was interesting to see the internet get to see the game was out, so the game was broadcast for free on roku. But they use the sny speed production and team and all that, so the I forget you. You'll know his name. I forget his name, but Matt's basically the director of of basically the broadcast.
Speaker 2Yeah, has like a movie and film background, so that he's getting these like beautiful shots, like it's a film or a TV.
Speaker 1I don't know his name.
Speaker 2Um, I, yeah, I shared the tweet with you. I forget his name.
Speaker 1Yeah, I saw the tweet.
Speaker 2Yeah, but kudos to him. He did a great job. There were some really great shots in that game.
Speaker 1SNY is a top notch, stellar broadcast. I mean, I know you guys have a great broadcast over there in chicago with um, um, oh, what's your marquee right? Um, you guys have a great broadcast too. I I've I've watched a couple marquee broadcasts. Um, and the sny team is just fantastic. And of course, you know you can't go wrong with ron, darling and keith and nanda's on a team, especially for an 86 diehard like me. So love it. Yeah. So I mean we face each other one more time in Wrigley, right?
Speaker 2Yes, correct.
Speaker 1August, I think.
Speaker 2Yeah, august or September, so sometime towards the end of the season. Who?
Speaker 1knows, maybe I'll make a trip. You never know.
Speaker 2Man dude knows, maybe I'll make a trip, you never know. Um man dude. I finally for the from the cubs perspective, now that that met series just ended. Finally we get to play some not as amazing teams, because the cubs have played the dodgers twice, the diamondbacks twice, the giants, the padres twice, the rangers, the phillies, I mean they've played everyone. That's good so far.
Speaker 1Wait, who'd you beat today?
Speaker 2And now, today was the first game of a 21-game stretch in which they play the Marlins six times. They play the White Sox, the Rockies, the Nationals, the Reds a couple times.
Speaker 1The White Sox have the Pope, though. They do, they do.
Speaker 2But finally I'd rather play them with Pope power than the Mets and the Padres, and the Diamondbacks and the. Dodgers and the Giants and the Rangers and the Phillies.
Speaker 1That's fair enough. Yeah, that's fair enough For those. I mean, we have a new Pope. He's from Chicago Real exciting and he's well well. At first the reports came out that he was a cubs fan and it came out with his white socks and yes, um, his brother is.
Speaker 1You know. They showed a video of him at the 2005 world series. Um, against the white socks, played the astros because at the time, if you know baseball, the Astros were a National League team. At that time, that's before the Milwaukee Brewers, the Milwaukee was an American League team and before they did the switch, and so they were playing, of course, the White Sox in the World Series. Yeah, nicholas, I think Nicholas Pepin, our buddy at Pop Culture Roulette, told me that he's a big fan of AJ Pruszynski. So yeah, how about that?
Speaker 2I'm just going to clear up for the record that he is not. I got your back, nicholas. We agree that he cheated, he cheated, but that's neither here nor there.
Speaker 1I love you, Nicholas. I'm just teasing you, buddy. I know he probably just drew his radio or whatever nicholas, nicholas don't don't, I'm your friend. Still right, we're friends. Still buddy, um, but yeah, uh. So yeah, we had a little fun little talk about aj brzezinski. It was a drop. What is a drop strike?
Speaker 2I never. I never knew this drop third strike.
Speaker 1Wow, I never knew I had a. I told like I told him I had to do a deep dive into aj crazy um and and the white sox ends up winning the world series, right that season yeah wow, um, okay, so we talked about them. Um, oh, we teased this last week. Charlie, a mutual friend of ours and I will say his name because he has posted it eugene beyond. Uh, who charlie knew from way back when hq, right, hq trivia.
Speaker 2Yeah man, I miss those hq days. Those were the best them too.
Speaker 1I mean, it was so much fun to win two cents. Let me tell you.
Speaker 2Hey, there were times where you could win some decent ones.
Speaker 1Oh, there was, Because I never did. Yeah, it was very hard to play because one question and you were totally done, like it was like unless you had a saving thing.
Eugene's Price is Right Return
Speaker 2We got to play two at a time because I would always play with next to rosie, so between the two of us we got probably close like 250 300 bucks over the time for just playing free trivia so you're the reason why they went bankrupt oh, yeah, exactly so eugene, our buddy eugene.
Speaker 1first of all, game show legend Eugene Beyond. I'll say that first. I mean Eugene has been on who Wants to Be a Millionaire. He's been on Wheel of Fortune, sound familiar. He's hosted HQ Trivia. He's hosted HQ Trivia and he's been on the Price is Right. Speaking of the Price is Right, the Price is Right has a rule that they instilled, probably about 10 years ago, where you can go back on the show every 10 years. So if you've been on the Price is Right before, you can go back as long as it's been 10 years.
Speaker 2Do you have to have played on the show or even in the audience?
Speaker 1Either way right, no, in the audience, it doesn't count, it's only if you get called on down to contestants, got it. So eugene, famously, um played. Squeeze play, I believe, was the game on stage for those of you prices right fans like me. Um, and he did not win. Um, he didn't go to the showcase, he basically left with whatever they gave him at the time, maybe the whatever the one bid. One bid is when you get on the stage uh, whatever the one bid prize was, and also probably a box of rice-a-roni or whatever it was. Uh, and Eugene decided. Eugene turned um, he had a big birthday, I think it was. I don't remember what the birthday was exactly. Sorry, eugene Um, but he had a big birthday, I think it was. I don't remember what the birthday was exactly. Sorry, eugene um, but he had a big birthday and he decided for his big birthday it was 10 years. He was gonna fly to la, he got tickets to the price is right and he was going to go and try to be a contestant one more time on the price is right. And he went and he his episode airs tomorrow.
Speaker 1Does eugene get called on down? Does eugene go on stage? We don't know. We'll find out tomorrow and we'll talk about it next week. I am going to try to get our buddy, eugene, on the podcast to talk with him about it. I'm sure it would be no problem because he is the coolest um and uh. You know, again, charlie is a mutual that we knew before we met each other. I remember, as a matter of fact, when we were kind of uh, following each other on Instagram when we were in Atlanta. I remember you were like you know Eugene? I'm like, yeah, of course I know Eugene. It was so funny.
Speaker 2Um, I remember that as well.
Speaker 1Yeah, so I'm, we're, we're rooting for you, buddy. Uh, retroactive. Good luck Um we.
Speaker 2I already have it set up to record for tomorrow. Thanks for the reminder.
Speaker 1Check your local listings. Cause prices right Does air at different times in the morning depending on what market. In Miami, my Miami friends, it airs at 11. On CBS here in our neck of the woods, I believe, in Chicago, it ends at 10, which, funny enough, 10 in Chicago is 11 am Eastern, so it actually will be airing the same time as it does here.
Speaker 2Yeah, only California then gets back. They can reset them for the end of the mountain time, right?
Speaker 1Something like that yeah, and New York plays at 11. Most markets he plays at 11. I mean, prices are at plays at 11 and let's make a deal plays at 10. Um, some markets, let's make a deal is in the afternoon for some reason. Um, uh, but yeah, I, I'm, I'm excited to see our buddy uh, hopefully do his thing. It's cool.
Speaker 2Yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 1He taped this episode back in December, so it's a long time to wait, oh wow, yeah yeah, five months, you know we were, we were like waiting for we are family for three months, yeah, think about the episodes that ordered in air. Some people waited weeks longer this is true and we got also. We had, at least starting in november, we had video clips so we could at least see snippets of what the show is going to look like um, uh.
Speaker 1So yeah, eugene retroactive. Good luck from both charlie and I. Buddy, um, we're excited to watch anything else you want to talk about um, yeah, we have.
Speaker 2Uh, one other thing I wanted to mention Cubs calling up another big hitting prospect. Um, unfortunately, Ian Hapson. I have to go on the IL short term, and why? But he's been out the last few days with them with a minor oblique issue he took. He took some swings in the cages yesterday and they said that he was okay, that it wasn't going to be too long. So I'm guessing they're going to backdate it the three days he's already missed. So he'll probably only miss a week. But because of that, Suzuki can play into the outfield, which opens up the DH spot. So because of that, the Cubs are calling up one of their best prospects, Moises Ballesteros who is?
Speaker 2a catcher DH monster hitter. So rumors are he's going to be in the lineup tomorrow, so I'm kind of excited for that. I don't know if he comes back quick, but he's been killing the ball in AAA and really forcing the Cubs hand.
Speaker 1So Iowa is your AAA team, correct?
Speaker 2Wow. And speaking of Iowa, one other thing. I don't know if you saw this, but the John Oliver from Sunday or two ago, Of course you made me watch that. The Iowa Cubs have mentioned that they've reached out for it, so fingers crossed that they're the ones. That'd be really cool.
Speaker 1It's not often that. I mean, it's often charlie sends me stuff, but it's not often that you send me something and say there's going to be a pop quiz. I was like, oh, I gotta watch this. Um, I better watch this and, and it was the best like I don't know eight minutes of my life.
Speaker 2It was so good there's multiple references in there hidden there are.
Speaker 1Of course, you gotta love the rumble ponies. I mean, that's the mets double a team. Uh, binghamton rumble ponies. Um, I think that's our only team that really has a funny name we have. We have the brooklyn cyclones, which makes sense because the roller coasters in coney island is a cyclone and they're in coney island. That's the high a team and you know, the low a team is the is the port st lucie mets and our triple a team is the syracuse Mets. So not that exciting, right? So yeah, and what is Iowa's current name? The?
Speaker 2Iowa Cubs. That was mentioned in his segment.
Speaker 1I saw that, yes, I didn't put two and two together, but all right, that's cool, they're in the running.
Speaker 2That'd be cool.
Speaker 1I mean, I could see it this. You guys have a great sense of humor, so I can kind of see him having fun with that and uh, we'll see. Yeah fingers crossed I mean it can't be worse than what. Was it the clam?
Speaker 2yeah, they have.
Speaker 1They've had some bad some, some bad misses folks, you know, there's a team a minor league team somewhere I forget the name of it that has like a row of toilet seats. Yeah, there's a team, a minor league team somewhere I forget the name of it that has like a row of toilet seats.
Speaker 2Yeah, it's a great segment if you want to check it out from. John Oliver's last week tonight.
Speaker 1Yeah, all right, buddy, that's what we got this week. I hope you have a good week, man.
Speaker 2You too, and also congrats on the Pete Alonzo walk off RBI tonight, your guy coming through again.
Speaker 1Thank you, buddy, thank you. And also I want to mention too, I just won a $12,000 trip to Disney World. I'm going to Disney.
Speaker 2World. You won another contest. No way they're going to have to legally change your middle name to contest winner at some point.
Speaker 1So funny way. They're gonna have to legally change your middle name to contest winner at some point. So funny. Um, all right, buddy. Uh, now I can safely say this week go, cubs, go back. Let's keep the winning going let's go, cubs and let's go, mets, let's go. This has been around the bases the pop culture and sports podcast with your host charlotte seymour and I'm tim sternberg until next week. Go, cubs, go, and let's go. Mets, bye, everybody.
