For those of you who are not familiar with Funkatronic Rex, we are a friendly local game store located in Phoenix, AZ. However, we are quite unique.
We tend to be the goofy, gregarious, and non-grindy gaming geeks of the community.
With a humble staff of 4 friends, we love our customers dearly and many of them are like family to us. Our social interactions and goal of a warm "Cheers" style vibe has a direct effect on our niche community.
As with any community, we have an abundance of hilarious stories and insight.
Our aim is to bring you in, share the vibe, and bring the love of the Funk to you in our podcast!

Episode 7: YOU, ME, & D&D!
Episode 7! Getting to know the Dungeon Master, Hiroko!
We are joined by our wonderful and hard working store DM, Hiroko. She leads our Dungeons & Dragons Adventurer’s League group on Tuesday nights and has set a great example for those new and experienced to the hobby. We get schooled on D&D vampiric lore, chat about Mike’s baseball player character, and the importance of a good Dungeon Master.
- News: Lord of the Rings the Living Card Game! Once again we had a wonderful all day event dedicated to Court’s favorite card game.
Our custom Warhammer 40K slow-grow narrative campaign, Whispers from the Deep kicked off with high energy! Thank you to all who joined us and apologies to those who didn’t get to sign up. We will keep you posted on the unfolding narrative.
- Hobby Highlights: Micheal is in vacation mode, Mike’s kitbashing gets gross (link for pics below), Hiroko makes an amazing D&D prop but you might not want to check her browser history. Court finally jumps into Battletech!
- On A Nat 20: Mike attempted to hit Court with cleaning the fish tank for a year. Court discusses new lore for the Nat 20 game but Micheal ain’t having it. Hiroko locks Court into joining The Curse of Strahd campaign…in a unique way. Lastly, Court becomes Mike’s doppelganger and everyone else has to dress like Court!
- MAIN TOPIC: CHATTING D&D WITH HIROKO
The irony is real. Four dudes running a friendly local game store but none of them play Dungeons & Dragons. Shame. Well thankfully Hiroko intrigues and educates us with not only some D&D lore but her unique story into gaming. TPKs are real but the love and passion shared by our good friend and DM squared was absolutely tangible. This was a very special episode for us and we are so grateful to Hiroko for her hard work, kindness, creativity, and support.
