Janira Ramirez-Mello's Radiant Heart Yoga & Wellness Center in Broomall
In this episode of the Good Neighbor Podcast, host Bob Blaisse brings greater awareness to a sanctuary that awaits along West Chester Pike in Broomall, PA, where yoga transcends physical postures to become a pathway for profound self-discovery. Janira Ramirez-Mello, founder of Radiant Heart Yoga & Wellness Center, brings 25 years of practice and international training to Delaware County, creating a space where genuine healing happens through mindful connection.
Listen as Janira shares how she focuses on more than just the physical part of yoga, describing how her studio helps practitioners unite body, mind and soul. This holistic approach manifests through diverse offerings that meet people wherever they are on their wellness journey. From Vinyasa and Hatha classes infused with essential oils, to monthly sound baths where healing frequencies guide participants into restorative states of consciousness, Radiant Heart creates multiple pathways to wellbeing.
What truly distinguishes this wellness center is its emphasis on community and personal empowerment. Drawing from her background in herbalism rooted in Hellenic medicine, Janira shares post-class teas while gently guiding students to honor their bodies' wisdom. "When you start to practice, you learn about yourself and become very much in tune with what the body needs," Janira notes, explaining how yoga practice naturally extends into mindful choices beyond the studio. Whether through local workshops or international retreats like their upcoming Canary Islands journey, Radiant Heart helps Delaware County (Delco) residents reconnect with themselves and others in meaningful ways.

Welcome to Good Neighbor Podcast
Speaker 1Hello , delco . This is Michael Barkan , welcoming you to the Good Neighbor podcast , where fans of local businesses and their neighbors come together . It's my pleasure once again to introduce my friend and neighbor , our host Bob Lacey .
Speaker 2Well , thank you , michael Barkan , for that introduction again today and welcome everyone back to the Good Neighbor podcast .
Speaker 2We're coming to you today , as we always do , from southeastern Pennsylvania , the Delaware County of Pennsylvania , 67 counties . We're one of the smallest geographic counties but really one of the largest in population , just above the state of Delaware and to the west of the state of New Jersey , just south of the city of Philadelphia , delaware County , lovingly referred to as DELCO with that abbreviation , and this podcast is really meant to kind of bring you the good neighbor businesses of DELCO , the businesses of DELCO and beyond that are really good neighbors to our Delaware County residents
Introducing Radiant Heart Yoga Center
Speaker 2. And today it's a great new business when I say that , not new to our genre of businesses that we bring on to the Good Neighbor podcast , but literally a new business that has popped up in a very familiar place along Westchester Pipe in Broomall . The name of the business is Radiant Heart Yoga and Wellness Center and I'd like to bring to the stage introduce the founder and the owner of Radiant Heart Yoga and Wellness Center , ms Janira Ramirez-Millow . Welcome to the program , janira .
Speaker 3Hey Bob , how are you Excited to be here and excited to be offering yoga in Broomall ?
Speaker 2Well , it's so great to have you because you know , I know the location that you're at 2725 Westchester Pike in Broomall and those of you from Delco that drive Westchester Pike you know it's a . It's really a four lane road , a lot of stops and lights , but it's easy to get down , goes fast but traffic can back up sometimes . And right there , kind of near the the , the Dan Joel Funeral Home and actually the new Lincoln Dealership , there's a row of stores heading westbound retail front buildings and your Radiant Heart Yoga Center , yoga and Wellness Center has actually moved in there and you've just opened up what last couple of months or so ago .
Speaker 3Actually it's been a little bit over a year now that we're open .
Speaker 2I did not know that .
Speaker 3Yeah , a small little sanctuary right outside of that Westchester Pike .
Speaker 2Well then it has . It has become well known as a wellness center , Janira . Let me just ask , if I can , because we're going to be talking about yoga but see yoga today as kind of an understanding . A lot of people think of it as fitness , but some who really are practitioners and even just students , people who read know that there's a lot more to the world of yoga Because while it is fitness , you understand a little bit better when you realize that it includes mental fitness , Right . So let's start on a higher level and first let's help those understand . So we have a baseline here of what yoga is today and what , the all-encompassing kind of encapsulation of what the practice of yoga and why we practice it .
Speaker 3Yeah , so at Radiant Heart what we do is we focus a little bit more than just the physical part of yoga . We really look at all parts of it which is pretty much connecting the body , the mind and the soul into three . So we do that by offering different types of classes which
Yoga Philosophy and Wellness Practices
Speaker 3might not be so physical . Other of the classes that we do offer are a little bit more at a slower pace , which allows you to really go inward to your mind and really just connect to yourself .
Speaker 2Smart . I mean the idea is , if you can get right with yourself , you're going those kind of elements of that practice . Then that turns into exercise also kind of opens up the mind towards thinking about other areas of mental and physical health . That sometimes involves could involve foods that we eat . Sometimes involves , could involve foods that we eat . Could some people will be looking at sounds or smells or stuff . Would you give us a little bit of an overview of kind of the ancillary kind of health and benefits of those things ? That kind of creep into the understanding once you start to understand the benefits of yoga , the practice of yoga and how your body is kind of yearning for other kinds of natural medicines , natural health practices .
Speaker 3Well , that's the beautiful thing about yoga when you start to practice , you learn a lot about yourself and you start to become very much in tune with what the body needs and you become more open to other practices or other modalities to find health within your hands . So it becomes more than just that physical practice , because then you start making choices in the outside world , right outside of the yoga studio let's say it like that that really are more impactful , because you're more mindful at this point with everything that you do .
Speaker 2You know when your body feels good , exactly it feels better and you recognize your body's feeling better through these practices of yoga , exercise , yoga meditation to a degree , and quiet and breathing and those practices .
Speaker 2But then it sounds like what you're saying is that you become more aware that how important all things that are affecting our body are .
Speaker 2So what we eat and you know from that , you know how we maybe use certain herbs and foods would tend to have additional benefit for us as yoga practitioners .
Speaker 2Now , I'm not one it sounds like I am , but I'm really . What I'm saying is those of us , those of our friends and family , that do get to know the practice of yoga and really just doing this episode so people in Delaware County can turn on and tune in and maybe stop by to the Radiant Heart Yoga and Wellness Center that's recently opened in the past year in Broomall , pennsylvania . Now Janira Ramirez-Melo is the founder of the center and I guess , for people who also are hearing about yoga here a little bit for the first time , or what yoga studios are , give us an idea of how people prefer to practice yoga in a group , or is it because of the instructor moving them harder or faster like the way a fitness trainer . Would People like to come together for yoga studio and exercise ? Tell us a little bit about how you offer coursework or really sessions , to advance in your understanding of the practice .
Janira's Yoga Journey and Training
Speaker 3So I know I can speak about Radiant Heart and how we kind of offer our yoga practice at the studio . It's really more . The studio is really rooted in deep connection . So when you come here , it's all about the self connecting with nature , as you mentioned , the herbs and community . So the idea of bringing it together , like practicing together , is really about community and the instructor is really there to guide you in the practice that you are going through . Um , because it is such a personal practice . Um , and we are not there to tell you to get into this pose . If something doesn't feel comfortable , you don't have to , because you are connecting with your body and you're really listening to what you need .
Speaker 3We do offer a lot of different classes at the studio . There's I'll say some few words like vinyasa , hatha and yin , and those just sound really fancy . It's just different types of practices . What makes it really special at the studio is that we offer them with , say , as a . We infuse them with other things , such as essential oils . I'm an herbalist , so you can always find a cup of tea in the end of class and I'll always talk about different herbs and how they help .
Speaker 3We have a different theme each month . We do a lot of sound baths at the studio as well , adding another type of modality to help with any type of healing . We do a lot of those group classes , but we also do a lot of events and workshops . We do a lot of private events and we are also even doing retreats . One of the retreats that we're doing this November will be in the Canary Islands . So really taking that wellness to a whole other level , experiencing it outside , in a different country , and just everything that we do is to really just help people regulate their nervous system and truly just reconnect with their bodies because we have lost that connection between the body and the mind and just allow them to feel supported and empowered in whatever journey that they're in , and if it's that's a healing journey , just help them feel more supported in it , yeah , and I have to think , but you got me and I'd like to see somebody that's that's really gone through all that and I can see now why you've named your practice radiant heart .
Speaker 2I mean because when those things connect , when you're , when you're going on all cylinders on those kinds of subjects you talked about , you do have a radiance about you and people see it and they want a piece of that and they want to , they want to learn how do you do it and and this is this is someone who's sharing the path that she's on and the path that she's helping others on through yoga and and certain wellness practices and and I have to think that there had been mentors in your life that took you here , got you to where you are early days . Tell me a little bit about your original finding of the yoga practice , and was it in this in Broomhall , pennsylvania , or was it another part of the country or another part of the world where you grew up
Sound Therapy and Community Building
Speaker 2?
Speaker 3Tell , us a little bit about yourself .
Speaker 3I wish I would be able to say that it was here , but I have traveled a lot just because this podcast is about this area .
Speaker 3But my journey began basically back in high school this is about 25 years ago when I was first introduced to yoga , something that was not really spoken about , which is nice to know that now it's something that is being introduced in schools and it truly had such an impact on me .
Speaker 3Obviously , I opened up the studio , but that was again the first time that I was able to make that connection as a teenager how important that those connections of the body , the mind and the soul was , and it was something that , as life progressed for me , it was something that I came back to again and again to just help me regulate and ground myself . So it wasn't until I went to college and I was in Greece at that time where I decided to complete my yoga teacher training and at the same time , studied herbalism in a school that was rooted in Hellenic medicine , and within those practices I just learned that these tools helped me navigate a lot of challenges in modern life . So with that , I just learned a lot of inner self-control and I knew that it was something that I wanted to offer to the community .
Speaker 2You have . You've literally are doing it every day . Now , with the opening of your yoga studio , you really are an example of someone that has been able to kind of grow as a person and really I guess you know your mental state and your spiritualities that are benefiting from this and then to even widen your knowledge , your practices that surpass and extend further than just yoga , but to be able to understand herbal medicines . I saw , after your name , some certifications that I did not even really know . One of them began with the letter E and a dash and the other one was P-R-Y-T . Sound therapy was another . Tell us a little bit about just a few of those extra , I guess , therapies that you're certified in sharing with others .
Speaker 3So sound therapy is another thing that we offer at the studio . We have actually once a month we offer just a single sound bath in a group , and then we also offer a Reiki and sound bath together . Sound bath is a practice that uses frequency to offer healing . What happens is that I come along and I offer these different sound bowls , these different instruments . It's not that I'm playing music , I'm playing frequencies . And what happens when you offer these sounds to the body ? It allows the body to fall into this subconscious state , and we know by now that when we fall in the subconscious state for the body , that's where a lot of healing happens . We offer them in a way to help people again , help them find anything that they are looking for in sense of healing their body or even finding relaxation at that moment .
Speaker 2So people who are coming to your studio and people who are coming to classes , some might be starting to kind of say this is a practice I do every day . It helps me with a good , clean habit , but it gets me some stretching or exercise , gets me breathing right , and then , as time goes on , they learn that I'm feeling right from this . What else would make me feel even more right ? And that's where practitioners like yourself and those who come to the studio are learning in other areas of their life and they're sharing . So it sounds like a really nice community that you're bringing about and have brought to Broomall , pennsylvania .
Speaker 2If you're out there and you're listening , you're hearing the founder of Radiant Heart Yoga and Wellness Center , janira Ramirez-Mello , who we're just so happy to have on the program today .
Speaker 2And you can reach Janira if you'd like to First check out her website , which is , as it sounds , radiant Heart , broomall , and we'll spell Broomall here for you because it's a local town here B-R-O-O-M-A-L-L , as it sounds , broomall , pennsylvania , but the dot com , the URL for Janira's website , is RadiantHeartBroomallcom , and the email is even easier to remember because it's the same thing at Gmail radiantheartbroomall at gmailcom , and you'll get a chance to communicate with Janira , if you're a local person or even just someone nationally , internationally , that wants to say hello hey , I think I met you in Greece when you were in college Then maybe you'll find that this podcast is actually circling the globe here and bringing people together , as we like to say . Janira , is there a way that someone could come to your
Invitation to Visit and Closing
Speaker 2studio and be able to practice or get an introduction , almost as a kind of an invitation from you to say come and see , and maybe you don't have to sign up for anything right away , you get to experience what , uh , your first yoga class might be like ?

Speaker 2Listen , I have to agree with you . I drive by . I drive by times when people are coming out of that studio and they all have smiles on their face . They seem like a community , like they've enjoyed themselves whatever they just got done doing . And you know what I'm realizing now ? They all have a radiance about them after a session in your studio . So it's so wonderful .
