Dr. Peyton Provost Brings HearingLife's Complimentary Hearing Tests To Delco

Ready for a sound revelation? Meet Dr. Peyton Provost, the dedicated Audiologist now bringing her HearingLife's expertise and complimentary hearing assessments to Delaware County, PA for the first time. In this engaging episode of the Good Neighbor Podcast, Dr. Peyton demystifies modern hearing healthcare and introduces a valuable new resource to Delco residents and residents of nearby Montgomery County, PA and Chester County, PA, all from her HearingLife office in Newtown Square, PA.

Listen to Dr. Provost explain why hearing challenges often go far beyond simply turning up the volume. And how simply getting older can contribute to the delicate hair cells in our inner ears gradually deteriorating without the ability to  regenerate, affecting our ability to hear specific frequencies. You’ll learn why that can be the reason people experience hearing clarity issues with a belief that everyone seems to be mumbling. But the good doctor cheerfully explains how modern hearing technology now precisely targets these specific frequency losses to create personalized solutions for her patients using her HearingLife advanced hearing aid technologies.

You'll discover how Dr. Peyton's HearingLife office in Newtown Square, PA is only one of the more 600 HearingLife locations nationwide, all bringing cutting-edge technology and research to their local communities with the same commitment to accessibility – by offering completely complimentary comprehensive hearing tests to everyone. And Dr. Provost promises that she can assess hearing within a one hour visit to her office, explain the results and if needed, fit her patients with the appropriate hearing aid the same day from her Newtown Square office in the Edgmont Square Shopping Center.

Speaker 2

Those of you who have listened before know that we broadcast here, coming from Delaware County, pennsylvania, and if you know Pennsylvania you can imagine the southeast corner of Pennsylvania. It's Delaware County, one of the 67 counties in Pennsylvania and the most southeast county. One of the 67 counties in Pennsylvania and the most southeast county. We are really just north of the state of Delaware, west of the state of Delaware, across the Delaware River Excuse me west of New Jersey, across the Delaware River and really just below the city of Philadelphia.

Dr. Peyton Introduces Hearing Life

Speaker 2

Delaware County, pennsylvania, lovingly referred to as Delco, the Delco vibe that people are starting to really get to know from things like this podcast, but the movies that are shot here in Delco, the famous people here from Delco or the food that we have in Delco and this podcast which aims to bring good neighbor businesses from Delco and beyond to the public and it's always a pleasure because they're always very different businesses and businesses that are either referred by people who love those businesses and sometimes they're businesses that we're missing in Delco and thank goodness they're here. That's one of them. Tonight. I'm very happy to introduce a doctor to the stage. We've had doctors before, but this is the first time that we have an audiologist, a doctor of audiology. It's my pleasure to welcome to the stage Dr Peyton. Provost Peyton, welcome to the program.

Speaker 3

Hi Bob, Thank you so much for having me. I'm so excited.

Speaker 2

Well, it's great because we're excited that there's a new hearing services, hearing aid company, but really all the hearing solutions for what basically is life needs hearing life needs coming to Delaware County. The first in Delaware County. Your business, your company's name is Hearing Life and it's spelled as one word. Great brand, hearing Life. But my understanding is that you are really the doctor that's going to bring the solutions of hearing life to our friends and family in Delaware County. Welcome to Delaware County and welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast.

Speaker 3

Thank you so much. I'm so excited to be a part of Delco. I'm really excited to get to know the area, just Newtown Square. In general, it's a beautiful area.

Speaker 2

Well, let's talk about Hearing Life because it's new for us. But certainly hearing concerns are not new. It's been around since the beginning of time. But the technology is really changing at a fast pace and Hearing Life as a company has made a commitment to Delaware County. How many service locations does Hearing Life have across the country at this point?

Speaker 3

Hearing Life itself has 600 offices nationwide. They're actually we're part of a larger group called the Demont Group. It's a global hearing healthcare company based out in Denmark. So the connection really gives us access to some of the most advanced like hearing aid technology and just audiology research in the world.

Understanding Age-Related Hearing Loss

Speaker 2

Well, it's wonderful that we finally have what sounds like the leading company for hearing solutions, but let's not just use the word hearing aid. Company for hearing solutions, but let's not just use the word hearing aid. Let's let us learn from you here tonight and let us hear whether or not and how the technology has advanced. I mean, we all know, we all have friends who have hearing aids, but we've all seen hearing aids get smaller and get more technical, and now we even see commercials for them on TV. Let me just say is the still the primary need being? I just am hearing less. People are telling me I'm not hearing well and I think I need to get my ears examined. Is that still really at the root of it, and is that really the root of the primary service that you offer?

Speaker 3

Well, hearing aids are a big part of it. We like to tailor each you know treatment plan to the individual, to the patient. So, whether, whatever their needs may be, I'm happy to help, whether that be hearing aids or just counseling and kind of coming to terms with their hearing loss. I mean saying what a lot and saying like oh man, I'm getting that age, I really need to get my hearing checked. That is a big part of it. It's important in itself and it should be a part of like a regular annual checkup, annual exam. So we do like to advocate for that.

Speaker 2

But I agree, it's a lot more than just saying like oh, you know my wife Well, I think that people we know who have hearing aids would tell us that you know, if you know them well enough to say or you live with somebody like that and you say how did you know? Some people have been hearing problems since young age and that's why a company like yours is necessary. I'm sure that you're trained to be able to help with youth and even children to try to maybe have to discover that there's a hearing problem. That's a big part of it.

Speaker 2

But you know, for adults who are on their way to a hearing problem getting worse over the years or suddenly manifesting itself, I know by my own experience that hearing loss isn't just a matter of not being able to hear as loud meaning everybody sounds soft, not hearing as well the volume but it really has to do with whether or not sounds are getting through in certain frequencies. So when I had a hearing test last, you know you raise your hand whether or not you're hearing in this ear and that ear and you can hear that these different frequencies are ones that are. Maybe I'm hearing less. You're worried. I'm not raising my hand because I don't think there's a sound. I hope there isn't a sound, but then there is, I know, when you get older, if you have teenage children, they're going to mock you by saying can you hear this sound coming out of some app on their phone? They want to tease you. Everybody at the table can hear it, but you can't.

Services and Insurance Coverage

Speaker 3

Explain that a little bit. What's happening to us in our older age that causes hearing loss? So there are a lot of different things that can cause hearing loss and, just like you mentioned, it's not just always the volume, it's the clarity. You might think people are mumbling a little bit more, you're missing a word here or there. Things aren't as crisp. So what happens typically with age is through noise exposure.

Speaker 3

So sound goes through the whole auditory system, so through the ear into the inner ear and through the nerve Over time. There are little hairs we call them hair cells, or they're not hairs, they're hair cells in the organ of hearing, and just a lifetime of sounds and experiences and just life just kind of eats away at them, kind of breaks them down, and unfortunately, once those hair cells die there's no way to regenerate them. So what hearing needs to do is they kind of supplement this, in lack of a better terms to kind of focus in on the hair cells that are not there anymore, so they're able to amplify certain frequencies more so than others, to kind of tailor each person's loss for them.

Speaker 2

And that's something new because years ago it was just a matter of volume, correct, you can't hear, let's raise the sound level up. So now you hear. But these days you can take a technical instrument that is getting smaller and smaller and in the ear and test and program it to really be the hearing aid for that particular person's hearing loss style and what really they can't hear. And I remember one time somebody had two hearing aids and I said, oh, you're hearing problems in both ears and they said, no, this one over here is good, but it's picking up the sound from over there or something to bring it over here. And I thought, wow, that's more than I need to know, I guess. But wow, it's really come a long way. We're talking to a doctor here, dr Peyton Provost, who is an audiologist and really the selected audiologist to bring a better hearing life to Delaware County, pennsylvania, with a new location that is opened in Newtown Square, pennsylvania.

Speaker 2

And for those of you who know Delaware County and you can imagine where Newtown Square is along Route 3, westchester Pike, it's at the western side of really Delaware County and you know just beyond the Ellis Preserve you're hearing a lot about but you're familiar where the Regal Movie Theater is in Edgemont.

Hearing Life Location and Contact Details

Speaker 2

They call it the Marvell, I think, shopping Center. But right there in that shopping center you'll see the sign now Hearing Life as one word. And if you'd like to look at Peyton's website, it's as it says hearinglifecom. You'll get a chance to read all about Hearing Life and you can even put in a zip code and find Peyton, see a picture of Peyton, and if you'd like to call Peyton you can do so. Here's the number for Hearing Life it's 215-650-2334. And, like I said, I'm very excited the fact that we have really the person who is bringing a better hearing life to the residents of Delaware County and beyond. We're right on the lip of Chester County, pennsylvania, and not too far from Montgomery County's border, and I would think that hearing life is going to be bringing a lot of people to your door. Peyton, tell me, in a storefront kind of location like this in that shopping center, you're equipped to take in multiple patients and to book appointments, and do you get involved in actually delivering the hearing instruments as well?

Speaker 3

Oh yeah, absolutely, I'll do it all you know. Stop on in, happy to make you an appointment. Yeah, we'll do a full, comprehensive diagnostic evaluation. If hearing aids are an option for you, depending on your loss and lifestyle, we can do the hearing aid fittings the same day even.

Speaker 2

And have somebody walk out the door hearing better Will insurance. I should probably know this, but I don't. Does insurance cover hearing technology at all?

Speaker 3

Some insurances will have like a benefit towards them, whether that be like an X amount of dollars towards them. There's different yeah, there's different programs that offer different things. I can't say really in general, how about the?

Speaker 2

hearing test. Can they come and present their insurance to your business to cover a hearing test?

Speaker 3

Well, you could, but our hearing tests are completely complimentary. So we're committed yeah, we're committed to, you know, community outreach and just making hearing tests accessible to the masses. There's no reason to not come in a better hearing life to our community.

Speaker 2

I heard it. I want to hear it again. Free, really, Come in. If you think you might have hearing loss. Here's the place to find out if you do or you don't. Now you might not want to wear a hearing aid, you might not walk out with a hearing aid, but you're going to walk out knowing whether you do or you don't have any hearing loss, and that happens through kind of an audiology test that you administer.

Speaker 3

Yep, absolutely. How long does it take? I like to block off a good hour that allows me to get to know you, complete the test and kind of go over the results and treatment options, if that is what leads to it.

Speaker 2

Well, everybody in hearing this, if you're in Delaware County or beyond, look up hearinglifecom on the internet. This is why I guess they have 600 locations and why Hearing Life is expanding so rapidly. Because the offering they will give you a complimentary hearing exam by a studied doctor of audiology. That is powerful and you'll walk out with either a prescription in hand, knowing what you need, or you'll walk out hearing better. That's what's key here. Thank you, and Peyton, I have to say welcome to Delaware County. Are you originally from this area?

Speaker 3

I'm not. I'm from a little small town in Ohio, right on the Ohio-West Virginia border. I normally tell people I'm from Wheeling, West Virginia, because more people know where that is.

Speaker 2

So we're hearing a little bit of accent in your voice. You must be putting up a lot with the Delco accent the Delaware County people's accent here, and laughing a little bit. But you're one of us now, so you're going to have to learn to say a few things differently. But you'll have a lot of fun because there's a great vibe. There's a great kind of people here in Delaware County. We love our community and you know we want to hear more about our community all the time, and so that means we've got to hear better.

Speaker 2

If you want to hear better, first of all, go to the website hearinglifecom, put your zip code in and this is for all of you listening around the country who found this podcast. Go to hearinglifecom, put your zip code in. You'll see one of these 600 locations of Hearing Life and you'll be able to contact them and get your free audio test, your hearing test. That's amazing. And, more importantly, if you're in Delaware County, come out and say hello to this doctor of audiology who we want to welcome to Delaware County and support for bringing hearing life to our community.
