This "Officiant" Turns A Civil Ceremony Into Lasting Wedding Day Memories
Wedding ceremonies should be legal, meaningful and deeply personal—but they don’t need to turn a couple’s life into a months-long planning marathon. This episode of the Good Neighbor Podcast explores exactly why, featuring Vanessa Brown, CEO and Founder of Intimate Moment Weddings.
Host Bob Blaisse sits down with Vanessa to discuss the growing movement toward micro wedding ceremonies—intentional celebrations that honor love with legal clarity, warmth and authenticity. From thoughtfully crafted wedding vows to seamless handling of paperwork, Vanessa and her team offer a focused, officiated experience that transforms a simple civil ceremony into a memorable moment couples can cherish through every season of life.
Vanessa’s passion for this work is personal. She shares how her own “rushed” chapel ceremony with her husband, Shawn, left her longing for something more meaningful. That experience inspired her to create a service designed to slow the moment down—listening carefully to each couple, shaping a ceremony that reflects their tone, values and vision, and ensuring that the legal vows feel heartfelt rather than transactional.
Listeners will also learn how Intimate Moment Weddings offers flexibility without sacrificing elegance. Whether couples choose to invite 15 guests or exchange vows privately, Vanessa’s office space—thoughtfully transformed into a wedding chapel and conveniently located near the Philadelphia Airport—provides a simple yet beautiful setting. Complete with a ceremony arch, aisle and private areas for license signing and photography, the space delivers exactly what couples want. For those who prefer an outdoor or alternative location, Vanessa’s officiants are happy to travel throughout Delaware County, Philadelphia, surrounding counties and into New Jersey to create intimate wedding moments in parks, backyards or local venues.
Tune in to hear Vanessa Brown redefine what micro wedding planning can be: a licensed officiant’s attentive, budget-conscious approach that balances legality with intimacy and practicality—resulting in a wedding day that feels truly, unmistakably yours.

Welcome To Good Neighbor Delco
SPEAKER_01Hello, double cover. This is Michael Barcan. Welcoming you to the Good Neighbor Podcast, where fans of local businesses and their neighbors come together. It's my pleasure once again to introduce my friend and neighbor, our host, Bob Lacy.
What Intimate Moment Weddings Does
SPEAKER_00Thank you, Michael Barcan, for that introduction. Everybody, welcome to another episode here today of the Good Neighbor Podcast. Now we're coming to you from Delaware County, Pennsylvania, and we call that Delco for short. Delaware County, Pennsylvania, one of 67 counties in the very large state of Pennsylvania. We're in the southeast corner of Pennsylvania, just north of the state of Delaware, and I guess you'd say just uh west of the state of New Jersey and um below the city of Philadelphia, which is getting ready for the big 250th birthday party for the uh American government here. We're going to be celebrating all year in our area of Delaware County, Pennsylvania, which we lovingly refer to as Delco. Our podcast, the Good Neighbor Podcast from Delco, covers businesses that are in Delaware County and beyond, but serving the people of Delaware County really as good neighbor businesses, the kind of businesses you'd want to have in your community that you're proud of and that you want to tell people about. And that's the nature of this podcast. We try to pick a different business all the time. Some businesses are nominated. And you know, we have one today that it's really kind of different. You'll get it quick. It's not hard to understand, but it is a little bit different. You probably don't know anybody that is in this type of business. So let me introduce and bring to the stage the owner, the founder. Uh, I'm not gonna say the business name yet because I want you to figure it out when she's with us, but let me bring to the stage and welcome Vanessa Brown. Vanessa, welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast.
SPEAKER_02Hi, good morning, Bob. Thanks for having me today.
SPEAKER_00Well, it's great to have you, Vanessa. And I didn't tell the listeners what your business was, but now we're gonna do it because it's a little bit different than what first hits the eye and the ear. Your business is called Intimate Moment Weddings, correct?
SPEAKER_02Yes, that is correct.
SPEAKER_00Well, Vanessa, that could mean a number of things. The word intimate gets our attention quick, uh, certainly moment, the moment of intimacy, uh, but it does say weddings plural. So first glance, people might think that you're involved in in planning weddings, and in a way you kind of are, but in a very unique way, Vanessa Brown is a wedding officiant. Now, what's that? You can imagine what that is. Think of it somebody that officiates a wedding by under license really of the state, but you know, the couple themselves uh performing this wedding ceremony by what they say to each other, but it's witnessed by an audience. And Vanessa, you're the official, I guess, in lieu of a pastor that we would normally see or somebody like that. You're the you're the civilian that's there to very officially um make sure that they're legally married, but you do it in an intimate way, don't you? In a special way to make it a very special moment.
The Chapel Setup Near The Airport
SPEAKER_02Yes, we do. So um we are that one part of the wedding process that you need to solidify the wedding in the state to make it legal. Um, intimate moment weddings um has officiants that come to wherever you are, or you can come to our location here um outside of Delco. Um, if you would like to get married in a smaller micro wedding fashion, um, a micro wedding is a wedding that's less 50 people or less. So if you just want to have a ceremony with just your loved ones or just you and your partner, um we are able to provide that service.
SPEAKER_00Well, it's and you know, it's a needed service more and more these days. Listen, if if people are not uh, say church-going people and believe that a wedding has to happen in a church, they are still people that want to be civilly married. Maybe they've been living together as a couple for a while and it's time now that we want to make this legal. Um, we want to make it special, we want to bring our friends for this moment where we're really declaring our love and our intimacy and a permanency through marriage. And then the question becomes well, where and how and with whom? How do we get this done? So, you know, certainly our listeners out there, if they're if they're someone that's been to weddings, you know that it's not always a minister or a priest performing the wedding. Sometimes it's someone that comes in, sometimes it might be a relative. But in this case, really what the goal is is to make it be as intimate as possible in a small venue. So, so tell me about that a little bit. Does your your business, which is Intimate Moment Weddings, and and if you want to see Vanessa or learn more, you can certainly go to that website, intimate momentweddings.com. Vanessa, does your business have a small venue for those 50 people then?
SPEAKER_02Yes, we do. We are located outside of the Philadelphia Airport in International Plaza. Um, they we have free parking there. Um, you come up. Uh, we have an office that we have turned into a chapel. So we have a wedding arch, we have 15 um chairs that your guests can come in. We have a runner, um, a place where the couple can do their official walk-in when they see each other, right before they take their vows. And then afterwards, we have an office where a couple can come um sign their paperwork, take any pictures with their guests if they're like, um, before they're off to their next event, whether that's going to eat or taking pictures um for the wedding day.
Crafting A Meaningful Ceremony
SPEAKER_00Now, the wedding day and that wedding moment to make it more intimate is certainly going to be something more than what we see on TV, like when a justice of the peace says, you know, the legal requirement of do you take him to be your and all that. Tell me a little bit, Vanessa, when you uh wanted to start this business and you wanted to uh make it be an intimate moment, even though it's maybe not a church wedding in that regard, but it's certainly not a you know civil at the courthouse wedding, you're making it an intimate moment wedding. What's your specialty? How have you how are you doing that?
SPEAKER_02And and what drove you to want to even so what made me even want to go in this direction is me and my husband got married 16 years in a wedding chapel, and we felt like uh the moment was just way too quick. It was a you came in, you walked in, you walked through the doors, I walked down the aisle. My husband Sean was at the end. Um, the person, the officiant marrying us, said the generic traditional vows. We said, I do, I do. We walked out and then we took pictures and we left. Um, I thought it would be a little bit more special than that. I knew it wasn't a whole wedding that was extravagant, but I wanted to feel it that moment to be a little more special. So when we decided to do this, we said that even though this is an intimate moment, no matter what they're paying, this moment is the beginning of a chapter of your life. It needs to feel special. And that's something that we want to give our couples that come to us, that this moment that you are having is special and memorable to them.
SPEAKER_00So you're you're kind of making up for what really wasn't present in your own wedding and doing it over and over again. How wonderful to contribute that way to um really what is an institution marriage, and uh more than just a legal contract. You're making the couple um the day that they are making those public promises for permanency in marriage, you're making it a special moment. Tell me, does it does it stretch into some pearls of wisdom that as a married woman you're sharing with them about what this day means moving forward?
SPEAKER_02Um, I uh I want to make that moment about the couple. So we have conversations um before the ceremony to find out what type of aesthetic they want their ceremony to be. And sometimes I can give little insights in these conversations and they will say, Oh, yeah, let's add X, Y, and Z. But um, I really want to make it about them and what they want. That's why they're coming to us because they want to have that intimate moment.
Mission, Licensing, And Legalities
SPEAKER_00Yeah, a lot more intimate than maybe um it would be at the courthouse and and and hopefully more intimate than you know, uh out in some Las Vegas chapel. You know, this is uh this is a local thing here to us, here Delaware County and beyond. How wonderful that you're near the airport. If guests want to fly in, you're not far from the airport, and then the the the the group gets to you know go out to have a have a luncheon somewhere. Your um purpose really is to provide a means by which rather than rather than really putting a family member on the spot or rather than going to a justice or the courthouse, it it is you know, a third party. We're talking to Vanessa Brown here. There's the founder, really the the owner CEO of um Intimate Moment Weddings. It's a business, yes, but it's a business with a mission. And the mission is to make your wedding day, if not going to be held in a church somewhere, but to make it be um more than a civil uh ceremony, make it really be a uh an intimate moment, one that you'll remember at a venue that you can really have included in the cost of having Vanessa come and do what she does, which is to officiate in the in the role of um an official from the state of Pennsylvania that can uh license uh with her license, sign the wedding papers so you have a wedding license. It's it's a great business for someone that isn't um you know a church-oriented person that needs to get married in a church or from a pastor, and it is definitely a need because you know, whether you're getting married, I think, Vanessa, whether you're getting married um, you know, civilly or sacramentally or uh in a church or however people would say it, um, it's a covenant, it's a permanent thing that you're promising another person. That in itself is such an intimate reality that for you to be able to make it more intimate that day is wonderful. And I think there's people out there who would want to talk with you. Let me give the phone number for Vanessa Brown and her business, Intimate Moment Weddings. You can check the website at intimate momentweddings.com or call Vanessa or her office at 267-289-3089 and talk to Vanessa. And I understand your husband Sean is involved too. Tell us what kind of staff, other than um this couple business that you have here, what other staff do you need to run this business?
SPEAKER_02So um there's a total of five of us, um, including me. Sean is also a licensed officiant. Um, he is my office manager. I do have Adrian, who is my customer um support coordinator during the day. If the phone rings, she is the one that's going to be picking up the line, um, answering any questions that you have, giving you details, scheduling appointments so you can speak to one of our officiants. Um, I do have two other officiants, um, Gloria and Martha. Um, Gloria has been doing this a little longer than my business has been around, and that's why I definitely needed her on my team. She's brought more value to my business than I could ever imagine. Um, and Martha, she is my bilingual um officiant. She uh speaks English and Spanish and can perform um wedding ceremonies in full Spanish, if need be, so that everyone is included.
Team Structure And Expertise
SPEAKER_00That's wonderful. And and to be clear here for our listeners, you know, what your your business is not is the full scope, you know, wedding planning business. It's really around the ceremony. It's around the official that will um officially uh sign the paperwork to uh lead you through the the promises that a couple make and then um for the benefit of witnesses present and uh turn it into kind of an intimate moment. Now, that said, would you also then you're getting questions? I mean, what if people say, hey, we've got people flying in and um when's a good time to do this? Or you know, we're we probably want to go to lunch someplace near there uh where you where we're gonna do this, or could we actually get married in someplace other than your venue? Will you come to us? Are you kind of helping a little bit with some of the wedding strategy that they're trying to build this around?
SPEAKER_02Um, I have had questions like that. Um, if they wanted someplace to eat, I I make recommendations, maybe someplace um I would like, or I would ask them what they're looking for. I can I can make suggestions. Um as far as if they want to have their ceremony someplace else, yes, we travel. We travel um here in Delco, um Philadelphia, the surrounding counties. And then as of the beginning of the year, we're licensed to do weddings in New Jersey. So um, we will travel to you. Um and if they want to come to us, that that is an option. We have 15 chairs that we can have an intimate um ceremony with your loved ones.
SPEAKER_00And and uh you're you're willing to travel as well if they have a park that they want to get married in or something like that, and you know, to be able to have a special location to them, you're also a come to them uh officiant if needed.
SPEAKER_02Yes, we will go wherever you need us.
Travel, Venues, And Options
SPEAKER_00Well, this is wonderful. I I think that there are a lot of people that are hearing this and thinking, you know, I know a couple that is looking to get married. They've been say living together for a while, they're thinking about getting married, but they don't want to make a big deal of it, but they do want to make it official and um they want to have a ceremony. So how do they do that without spending, you know, tens of thousands of dollars when it's not necessary because they feel like maybe they're already married, but they want to now make it official and they want it to still be an intimate moment. We we have the answer here. It's Vanessa Brown, the CEO of Intimate Moment Weddings. And you can take a look at her website at intimate momentweddings.com or call Vanessa at 267-289-3089. Ask her questions about this and find out how inexpensive I think it is to bring an official wedding officiant. I love it. It's a great business, Vanessa, and it's needed in our society today. Pro marriage. Um, you know, those of us who are married, I am, you are. I think we see the need, and we really want people to join the party. Come get married. And if you need an officiant, call on Vanessa Brown. Vanessa, it's a great business that you have. It's a wonderful good neighbor business in our community, and we need more of them. So thank you for coming to the studio today, and thank you for sharing a little bit about intimate moment weddings. What a great good neighbor business. It's been great having you on the program today.
