Are you wondering what Inspired me to write Discovering God’s Word? I’m Jean Wilund, but it’s all about Him!

In today’s episode, I’m going to tell you the story of how Discovering God’s Word came about.

The idea behind Discovering God’s Word developed back in the days of Covid. Remember those days? Ugh.

Our church’s pastor came to the women’s ministry team and said, “I want you to come up with a 4-week Bible study for this summer and let me know what you’re thinking.”

So we talked, and we decided that since we were being more isolated than ever during Covid, it’s vital that the women know how to study the Bible for themselves.

Since the Transformational Bible study method had been so life-changing for me, we decided to teach this method by walking them through studying a book of the Bible.

I just always learn better by doing rather than just reading. I learn so much from reading, but when you can read and do at the same time, that’s a game changer.

So that’s why we decided let’s not just teach them how to study the Bible; let’s walk them through it. Let’s teach it and do it together. So we did that.

Because I’d just finished reading the book of Habakkuk, and I’d seen how perfect this book was for the joyless times of Covid, we decided to lead a four-week Bible study on how to study the Bible by studying the book of Habakkuk.

By God’s amazing grace, that study actually led to my writing Embracing Joy: An 8-Week Transformational Bible study of Habakkuk for Our Daily Bread Publishing.

So now fast forward.

After Embracing Joy was released, Our Daily Bread and I discussed ideas for another Bible study.

My editor asked me what I thought of writing a six-week study on what I’d already done—teach how to study the Bible by studying a book of the Bible.

I loved the idea.

I suggested using a very short book from the New Testament, but Our Daily Bread asked me to consider using one of the gospels or the book of Acts.

Do you know how many chapters are in those books!

They did say, “Yes, we realize what we’re asking of you. We gave you eight weeks to teach a three-chapter book, and now we want you to teach a long book in only six weeks (not eight) and teach how to study any book of the Bible at the same time.”

Well, after I prayed over which book to choose, I finally settled on the gospel of Mark.

It’s one of the lesser studied gospels, and it’s filled with action and gospel power, and it shows us what it looks like to be a disciple, to be a true follower of Jesus Christ.

It’s the perfect book for anyone who doesn’t know or understand the gospel, for new believers, and for long-time believers who want to follow Christ more closely and love Him more dearly.

After much, much prayer and many starts and restarts, God’s grace upon grace, and wise godly counsel, I finally figured out how to write two-studies-in-one in a six-week study with easy manageable and engaging lessons.

I love it. And I think you will too! I really do.

It’s available on Amazon, Our Daily Bread Publishing, Christianbooks.com and from other book sellers. Order it for yourself and your Bible study group.
