Defying silence: hope goes online

Sofiia Season 1 Episode 55

Moving to a new place is always challenging, especially when language becomes a barrier. Born in Nangarhar, an Afghan territory where Pashto was her first language, she was suddenly uprooted to Badakhshan, where Persian dominated. But just as she found her footing, life threw another challenge her way—adapting to life in Mazar-i-Sharif.
Yet, through it all, Nargis held onto a dream: to study at the Afghan-Turk School. What fueled her determination, and how did she push past the obstacles that stood in her way?
In this episode, Sofiia speaks with Nargis about her journey, her dreams, and her relentless fight for education. When the Taliban’s ban threatened the future of learning for girls, she refused to accept it. Instead, she founded the Initiative Learning Academy, launching courses and an online school to keep hope alive. Even in the face of grave risks—including the brutal beating of a team member—Nargis and her team refuse to give up. Their mission is far from over.
