In this opening message of “A Different Way: The Sermon on the Mount,” we begin with Jesus’ surprising words in the Beatitudes (Matthew 5:1–12). Before giving any commands, Jesus sits down like a rabbi and makes a radical declaration about who is truly “blessed.” The Beatitudes are not a checklist for earning God’s favor, but pronouncements of grace over people who know their need for God—the poor in spirit, the grieving, the meek, and the merciful.
This message explores how Jesus announces a new kind of Kingdom—one that does not advance through power, control, or self-sufficiency, but through humility, dependence, and faithful endurance. If you’ve ever felt like you need to try harder to be accepted by God, the Beatitudes invite you to see that blessing begins with honestly admitting your need.
