Welcome Back And Life Updates
SPEAKER_00I feel like we should say that they sorry, you're right.
SPEAKER_01I just like forgot how things happened. Welcome.
SPEAKER_00Nope.
SPEAKER_01Welcome back to the A List Podcast with Alison and Alex. She's Alison. I'm Alex. Well, how the hell have you been?
SPEAKER_00Oh my gosh. Wow, it's been a minute.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so wow, how have you been the last? So our last episode came out the end of April. So really we've been out for, yeah, it'll be like two months. Well, we're gonna put this one out right away, though, right? Like basically just edit it and get it out next week.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's not fully two months. Sure.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00Um May was good. Uh we Josh and I had our anniversary. We're I'm going through my calendar on my phone. Oh, I was playing dodgeball.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_00We did not win the championship this year. I'm so sorry.
SPEAKER_01I'm so sorry.
SPEAKER_00But I don't know, not a lot like really was going on. So what about with you?
Moving Stress And A Shed Plan
SPEAKER_00It just worked.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I just I mean the Gay and Trying podcast launched, and then we had so much, so much. Well, it already launched, but we were we our format changed from like he and I to you know just guess, which adds a whole nother layer. Um, and then I moved.
SPEAKER_00That was a big thing. That was the big, big part, which is a big reason that we did the hiatus because it was a lot. We needed to figure out where we were gonna be recording.
SPEAKER_01And to you guys, I mean, obviously, this is not the setup, but you will probably not even notice a difference. It'll look exactly like it did the same couch with the same pictures in the background.
SPEAKER_00Um, there'll be a little, maybe a little different, but but like figuring out like you bringing two people together, like and figuring out what rooms were what, like yes, and we didn't know where things were going.
SPEAKER_01So and the the reason we're starting the 22nd is this next weekend, boyfriend and I are like we've taken the weekend, we've not made any plans, and we are just we're finishing. We have like just you know a few things left. It's pretty finished, but like the room in which we'll be doing the podcast is still there's still quite a few boxes in there. But this weekend we're hosting a little get together after the gay pride parade in Hollywood, where my lesbian friends will be helping me construct a shed. Allison will be enjoying tacos and tequila, and then the shed will house-I mean, I can hold something, would love to see it.
SPEAKER_00Although in the past, when I've needed things to be built, I haven't been much help. It's actually been easier for me to not participate.
SPEAKER_01I'm only my expectation is only that my friend that Katie will be helping me. Everyone else, I just like to have her. I love to, what's it called? Body doubling. Like when when you have to do something, so it's like um, like if you have laundry to fold, it's just been sitting there. And it's like for some reason, like if someone's there, like an OCD thing, I think that we have. It's like a common thing. But if someone was there or you were like talking to your friend on the phone, it's called body doubling. So it lets you be distracted by something while you finish a menial task.
SPEAKER_00Got it.
SPEAKER_01So body doubling for
Anxiety Swallowing And Food Triggers
SPEAKER_01the shed.
SPEAKER_00Speaking of OCD, um, I think I've developed a new OCD thing. Okay, tell me. So fun. Um at night.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So no.
SPEAKER_00I something starts happening with my throat and swallowing where I like feel like it's hard to swallow, even though all day I've been through this. It's been fine.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And then I lay down, especially if I'm at Josh's, like, because I don't have all my things a lot of the times. And so I then I start freaking out that like I'm not gonna be able to fall asleep. Okay. So it's like an anxiety slap to anything, but like I cannot focus on anything else, but the fact that like it's hard for me to swallow.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And what I've discovered that helps me do that is if I have cough drops on hand and I can put a cough drop in my mouth, and that makes me feel like it's so interesting.
SPEAKER_01OCD is wild.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's really fun.
SPEAKER_01But do you know I I experienced the same thing? Like, I haven't been to so I have had Burger King. I've had chicken fries. Okay, but I have not had a burger, like a meal from Burger King since I was maybe 14 or 15 years old. Because for some reason, I had like an OCD panic attack at a Burger King once where I could not physically swallow.
SPEAKER_00And I was like too big of a bite or just like just something anxiety.
SPEAKER_01Okay, I was like, I'm gonna die. This is the first sign of uh some terrible disease where you can't swallow. And then I was fine later in the day, attributed it to Burger King, and have never been back. You're not except for do you want to know the last time I had Burger King? You were with me.
SPEAKER_00Was it breakfast?
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_00When did we have Burger King? Chicken fries?
SPEAKER_01Yes, why, when?
SPEAKER_00I don't remember.
SPEAKER_01On the way to BTS.
SPEAKER_00Oh my gosh, fun.
SPEAKER_01We got chicken fries and we stopped at like a right aid to pee. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_00That was it's so hard getting done.
SPEAKER_01Oh god, the sof i is that where we're going again?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. It's in September 1st, I think.
SPEAKER_01Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_00But yeah. Yeah. I don't know. That's just a new thing that's developed.
SPEAKER_01I'm sorry about that. Every night or situationally? No, just randomly. Okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, back to Burger King, you're not missing much. I actually pretty much hate Burger King other than the fact that I like they have good breakfast.
SPEAKER_01And Coke Zero.
SPEAKER_00And Coke Zero.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But they have good breakfast things. I don't care about anything else.
SPEAKER_01I used to love their little four-pack cinnamon rolls. Do you remember those tiny little guys when we were growing up?
SPEAKER_00Just watched a TikTok last night talking about why they discontinued the cinnamonis, cinnamon, cinnamon rolls.
SPEAKER_01Whatever it was, why did they discontinue?
SPEAKER_00Because they it was a whole history of fast food. But McDonald's had like perfected the McMuffin because of like parents on the go or whatever. And um Burger King had tried to do something similar, but it like no one cared because it was like, yeah, we can just go to McDonald's. Right. And then it was the boom of cinnamon, I guess, because like Cinnabon had come out and it was like growing bigger. It wasn't just in airports, I guess. It was like they were actually having places, yeah. So they put out the cinnamonies or whatever they called them.
SPEAKER_01Cinnamonies, that's exactly what they were called. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And but then it was like, we can't really eat these on the go because you need a fork or whatever. Or it's like messy. Yeah, it's messy. The whole thing with the McMuffin, it was easy to eat on the go.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And then it was like, well, these are good, but not practical for that. So then they discontinued them and like by 2000 something, they had like phased them out.
SPEAKER_01I feel like we were still pretty young. Like when it happened.
SPEAKER_00I feel like I got them in high school, and that was 2008. I was a senior in high school for sure.
SPEAKER_01So it must have been like 2010 zone.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Anyway, I still taste them.
SPEAKER_01Like, I can still feel what it felt like to like pull them apart.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they were so like the perfect little size.
SPEAKER_01They're perfect. Anyway, bring them back.
SPEAKER_00I don't want to go to Burger King, but like I would for that.
SPEAKER_01Um, what else is new? Well, today Ali and I are going to Ali's my plus one to uh an event on the Paramount Studios lot for uh so Dylan and I, Dylan from Gang Trian, we are doing we're gonna be in the parade on Sunday, the Jackass float. We're gonna be live on Instagram, which is the first time ever going live.
SPEAKER_00Gosh, don't say anything bad.
SPEAKER_01Dylan is worried about that.
SPEAKER_00He should be.
SPEAKER_01And he should be. Um, but I had a there's like a pre-party happening on the Paramount lot, and I had a plus one.
SPEAKER_00How does Jackass go with gay and trying?
SPEAKER_01My theory is so first of all, there's a connection here. Dylan came to BuzzFeed from Paramount, so he has contacts at Paramount. And additionally, Jackass is releasing their like final movie this summer. It's like Jackass Once and For All, or something. It's in the invite. I don't remember what it's called. Jackass, the beginning, and also the end.
SPEAKER_00Jackass, best and last.
SPEAKER_01Jackass, best and last. It's the final. It's good.
SPEAKER_00They need to be done.
SPEAKER_01Yes, but also here's what I'll say: like people are like, eh, Jackass. They've never, we looked into it, they've never done anything homophobic. They're just like kind of it's just like stupid white dudes.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. They just like read just for straight. Correct.
SPEAKER_01And so that's why I think they're doing the parade.
SPEAKER_00They're like, we hey guys, we're out.
SPEAKER_01They're not anti-gay at all.
SPEAKER_00They are just like um abro abrasive, like just I don't know if that's the word. Intense.
SPEAKER_01Intense and just like and like we, I worked with Johnny, you know, the end of last year. Yeah. Straight, yes.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And um, he was really great to everyone. I'm just like, are we gonna see all these people today? I hope so.
SPEAKER_00Jackass is actually so interesting.
SPEAKER_01It is, yes. So Jackass was not a sexual awakening to me, but when I was like closeted, young teen, realized that like I liked boys like that, I would watch Jackass because they were always naked. I would just be like, oh my god.
SPEAKER_00Nice. That was a good engineering.
SPEAKER_01The short dude, he was a little, he's the little guy that like is always running through parks naked. He would always take his clothes off. Anyway, I hope he's there.
SPEAKER_00I'm not sure. It's not the one who died, is it?
SPEAKER_01Well, no. Okay, and maybe Bam will be there today. Bam, he had his own show.
SPEAKER_00He's not the one who died.
SPEAKER_01No. Okay. Ryan. I think the name that died passed his name, Ryan. Anyway, so we're gonna be doing that later today. So I was like, oh, well, this is perfect. Let's record in-house and then Uber on to Hollywood.
SPEAKER_00I do I did remember something. I have a few notes that are so random. But
The Erwhon Germ Warfare Shot
SPEAKER_00have you ever had the germ warfare shot wellness shot from Erwan?
SPEAKER_01No, but Dylan has, and he did a reaction video, and now I never want to try it. Okay.
SPEAKER_00So, but it worked.
SPEAKER_01Wait, really?
SPEAKER_00So in explain. At the end of May, I think I was or mid-May. Oh, yeah, you got sick.
SPEAKER_01I remember, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And I had heard people be like, This, it's like a little wellness shot, and it has crazy stuff in it. Colloidal silver is what I remember. I don't know. And I looked that up and I don't think it's good for you.
SPEAKER_01Well, I don't know. Anyway, Mother God.
SPEAKER_00I had heard people are like, this cures the sickness.
SPEAKER_01Everything.
SPEAKER_00And so I was like, I want to try it. I didn't, I wasn't like, I'm not gonna record myself, whatever. Like, I didn't have the same reaction that he did. It is terrible, it is disgusting, but it is not like I got over it pretty quickly. Yeah, it is ten dollars. I took it one day. I had you know the normal symptoms like sore throat.
SPEAKER_01I was like nasally coughing a little, like yeah, the beginnings of a cold.
SPEAKER_00It wasn't full-blown cold, yeah. It was the beginnings, and I took this shot, yeah, and by the end of the day, I was like, this is getting better. And I was like, I don't know if this is placebo. So the next day I went back, I got another one, and I did it. And I promise you, I had no symptoms other than I feel like it took away the physical symptoms, but I still kind of I feel like had a cold without symptoms. It was weird for a few more days.
SPEAKER_01Okay, but like you could function, you felt like yeah, my throat was magically better. That's wild.
SPEAKER_00So, but it is disgusting, and it is probably the worst like thing I've tasted. Yeah, but it did it go, it went away fast. So I cosign and I had this, I put that down on my list actually like a month ago to tell you about it.
SPEAKER_01Here's the thing though. So, yes, I support, I'm glad. Now we need to control test this by like next time you get sick, do it again.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I want you to.
SPEAKER_01I hope you never get sick again. Well, yeah, if I get sick, I'm gonna take this, I'm gonna do it.
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna go do it because you said wait, I wanna look up, I'm gonna tell everyone what is in it.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00Erwan germ warfare. And it like sucks because if you don't live near an Erwan, you can't get it. So I I'm sorry about that for everyone.
SPEAKER_01They do not ship.
SPEAKER_001025 for two ounces. Ingredients. Filtered water, organic lemons, colloidal silver, reishi powder, organic black elderberry extract. Okay, cyolic garlic extract, okay, grapefruit seed extract, wild oregano oil, and you taste that oregano.
SPEAKER_01Oh, do you? Oh, and oregano is yeah.
SPEAKER_00Organic estrogalis extract. What is that? Organic echinacea extract made in a ficillated that processes tree nuts. Invigorating shot delivers a burst of freshness and its blend of immune-boosting ingredients. The zesty flavor and vibrant color make it a refreshing, definitely not refreshing, choice for those looking to support their well-being.
SPEAKER_01And what's it called? Sorry.
SPEAKER_00Germ warfare.
SPEAKER_01Germ warfare.
SPEAKER_00It looks like you get it in an apothecary.
SPEAKER_01Yep, for sure.
SPEAKER_00Anyway, wow, okay.
SPEAKER_01So it's good to know because if I feel something coming on, I'm gonna go try it.
SPEAKER_00It's it is, I think that it is worth a try, even though it is disgusting, you'll be fine. Okay. Just chuck some water after.
SPEAKER_01Yes, I will.
Dodgeball Drama And NBA Finals Talk
SPEAKER_01Um okay, so let's touch on it briefly. You did not win in pot in Dodgeball.
SPEAKER_00No. I think that um Do you think you're done? No. I just think that they got tired of us winning, so they created a super team.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00With the best of the best person who runs out loud, and just a mixture of people that are really good. And they just were like, we're creating a super team so that we can beat them. And they did. But we also had people that have been on our team the past couple years that didn't couldn't play this season, so it wasn't like we were coming in.
SPEAKER_01Was Michael on this season?
SPEAKER_00So yeah, we had a good season still, but and we won a one game in the um playoffs, but then we lost the other one. And also because this is a sports podcast, yeah, right now is the NBA finals, and it is very serious with me in my house.
SPEAKER_02Why?
SPEAKER_00Because Josh is a Knicks fan, and the Knicks have not won a not been in the finals since the 70s or something. Not won since then.
SPEAKER_01Weren't we just doing this podcast? And you were there was some Pacers game that was a big deal.
SPEAKER_00So last year the Pacers were in the finals, and this that's happening now was a year ago already.
SPEAKER_01It is like it never ends.
SPEAKER_00And it was very sad for me because we made it all the way to game seven. Yeah, I remember. We were tied, and then Tyrese Halliburton tore his Achilles in like the first 10 minutes of the game, and it was doomed. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_01Can you imagine how bad that probably hurt?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he was on the floor screaming and crying because he knew what happened, and he was like, No, because it was so early in the game that it was like it was a crushing. So now, which the Pacers have never won ever, once. Oh the Knicks have won once before, I believe. But like 70s or something. So it's very exciting for Josh because he's a huge Knicks fan. They're playing the San Antonio Spurs, who have a really cute and sweet 7-4 guy on their team named Victor Wimbenyama.
SPEAKER_017-4?
SPEAKER_00He is 7-4, and he's a sweetie cutie patootie. Okay, he is so like um sensitive, and he's like, I'm not gonna hide my crying. Like, why would I like spend my like waste my energy not crying when I could cry? He walks into every game with his book and he reads fantasy books. So he walks into every game with his fantasy book, and he's like, I don't listen to music, I don't, whatever. I am reading before the game.
SPEAKER_01Is he like a good player too?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he's like young, he's only been in the league a few years, I guess. And so I think like as he gets older, like he's projected to like be the best, basically. Especially because like people like LeBron, like they're retiring.
SPEAKER_01For sure. So is so it's a little East Coast, West Coast happening.
SPEAKER_00Well, it's always East Coast, West Coast.
SPEAKER_01What?
SPEAKER_00Okay, so there's an Eastern Conference winner. So the Eastern Conference teams.
SPEAKER_01Hold on, hold on. So that means last year at this time, yeah, Pacers won the East Coast.
SPEAKER_00We beat the big deal.
SPEAKER_01Okay, yeah, okay, okay.
SPEAKER_00Um, and Victor, he like went last summer and stayed at a monastery and like lived with the monks and like practiced like being sensitive. I don't know. So like the girlies love Victor.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_00So I'm torn because they're not neither of them are my team. Right. I do want Josh to be happy, even though he wouldn't literally never say that about the Pacers because he hates the Pacers so much.
SPEAKER_01Even though I am Josh is from Indiana, everyone.
SPEAKER_00But also Victor is like sweet and cute, and we love.
SPEAKER_01So when is this game?
SPEAKER_00So there is a game.
SPEAKER_01What happened last night?
SPEAKER_00Last night, oh my gosh, it was very serious. It was tied right at the end in like the last like minute, two minutes or something, and the Knicks went up by one point. I forget how. I think they were up three, and then the Spurs hit a shot and they were up two. So then they were just up one. Yeah. And um Victor actually made a bad pass and the the Knicks like got it, and so it was a turnover, and then they didn't score. So who won? The Knicks. And they're playing two. So they're up two games. There's a it's a seven-game series if it needs to go there. So you have to win.
SPEAKER_01Two teams play seven times potentially.
SPEAKER_00If you need to, you have to win four games in a row. No, you just have to win four games at the series.
SPEAKER_01If you win four in a row, you're done. It's done. Correct, yeah. How many so what's the what's the score?
SPEAKER_00It is the Knicks are up to zero. There have been two games.
SPEAKER_01There's at least two more games.
SPEAKER_00Yes, but they're going to New York right now. The first two games were played in Texas. Now they're going to New York. It's harder to win on the road. So the Spurs really have to frick. And I don't think like anyone's come back from 3-0.
SPEAKER_01Who are the Spurs?
SPEAKER_00San Antonio. Oh, that's their name.
SPEAKER_01Got it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Are they coming to LA or San Antonio? Oh, that is where they were.
SPEAKER_00They just played two games in San Antonio. Then they go two games in New York, and then they go back and forth after that. If it goes to that.
SPEAKER_01San Antonio is not in California, you guys.
SPEAKER_00It is in Texas. It is in Texas. So anyway, it's it's fun. Okay. I'm enjoying watching.
SPEAKER_01This is called the March Madness. No, it's the it's the end of it.
SPEAKER_00March Madness is college, NBA Finals.
SPEAKER_01Got it. God's why that's why it feels like basketball is never ending. Because there's college and then not college. It is never ending, yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And then once you go, once we get done with this, it's a few months, and then it's the World Series for Soccer. Baseball. Baseball. Actually, the world the World Cup is coming to America like soon, like now.
SPEAKER_01I think next week, because I'm going to an event. Sports.
SPEAKER_00So it there's always a sport happening.
SPEAKER_01Always a sport happening. Never without sport.
SPEAKER_00Never. We need
How We Are Revamping The Podcast
SPEAKER_00to tell the people what they can expect for the upcoming um season. Yes.
SPEAKER_01So we are going to we're going to do a little recap of pop culture over the last six weeks that we've not been around and in a sec. But before we get there, so in our interim, we've decided that we're really proud of the what we've done. Like two years of podcasting is unheard of for most podcasts, especially those that aren't like under an umbrella of like an agency or a company. Um, and our goal is to was to like step back, kind of reassess, revamp the A-list. And I think our goal really is over the next like year to try to get ourselves into something like that so that we can have some, you know, distributions and opportunities and stuff like that. Production support would be amazing. And like everything I'm currently learning in my role over at BuzzFeed, as well as everything we've learned together while doing this, and obviously Allison's learned in her world, is setting us up to be able to get there. We just needed to get some space between it. Also, I was living the place I was living last was very much like my temporary, I don't know what's going on in my life. Um so what to expect? What to expect on the A-list moving forward? Well, first of all, we are gonna not much. Not that much. We are going to we're basically just gonna tighten it up. We're gonna we we we've we can look at analytics and see like what resonates with people. We know kind of what works and what doesn't. Nothing major is gonna change.
SPEAKER_00Literally, I don't think you would even notice if we really didn't say anything. We're just being transparent. Correct. Like we're still talking about um pop culture and like headlines and things like that, but we're kind of just trying to be more intentional about talking about it. Yeah, exactly. I don't know. Yeah, we're gonna try. We're gonna certainly gonna try, but we're not gonna be losing any personality or anything like that. Like, we're not like turning into the news. So, like, don't freak out. And honestly, again, we probably didn't even need to tell you this, but we're just we feel very lucky to have like a really solid group of loyal listeners.
SPEAKER_01So we just want to those of you that are have been there with us the whole time from the beginning.
SPEAKER_00It's gonna be like adding some transitions into some rebranding, rebranding, um, some transitions like into segments, segments. Um I I think we're gonna be ending the birthdays, and if that's was your favorite thing, like I'm so sorry about that. And you know what? If we get an overwhelming response, then we can bring them back. But I feel like we've done it for two years, so we really just like assessment.
SPEAKER_01We talked about a lot of birthdays. Exactly. The backbone of our podcast is pop culture. So it was like, how do we like foster and grow that aspect of it? And for us, that also comes with, you know, we have we we needed we need to figure we needed to figure out a pretty solid structure because in order to be a relevant pop culture podcast, you have to report on what's current. And there is some finagling to do with that, especially around just life in general. We're we are 99% of the time, we're really good about recording the week that things are happening. But like you guys know, when we do the holidays and stuff, we like to bank a few episodes so that we can take some time off. Um but again, it's not gonna change in a way that you're like, well, this is not the same podcast I signed up for.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we're just um giving ourselves a little bit more of a direction instead of just waking up and coming in and recording and kind of just going with the flow. Like we're just like giving ourselves some some more parameters in terms of like what we're bringing to talk about.
SPEAKER_01And it will make and it'll be very clear, I think, in the first episode when we come back. You'll get it. It's it's more just some more structure with the same content.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And that's really what we're doing.
SPEAKER_00Same personalities, same, not gonna say that we won't go off on a random tangent every once in a while.
SPEAKER_01It's part of who we are.
SPEAKER_00Still gonna have some fun games potentially everyone every once in a while. We're just kind of ending the birthdays, giving ourselves some transitions into it, and I don't know. Yeah, maybe cutting off some more dead space.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's also just healthier. It was hell, like we needed to take a break because we've been doing it every week. Yeah, and it was good to get some perspective, and I was able to. I mean, I tell I've told Allison a few times, so like I'm in some really big meetings with like directly with Spotify, directly with Apple Podcasts, directly with iHeartMedia, to be able to hear like what the strategists are talking about and kind of what's happening in podcasts. So I would say like it was it's encouraging to know that like what we're doing is what people want.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And that reassurance was like, okay, it's just then let's let's actually like build this into something that we because like the dream for me would be to take this on the road, to be able to like meet you guys in person and like go city to city, talk pop culture, where it mattered like locally and be able to like grow this thing.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think with there's like two types of podcasts. There's podcasts who are people who are already very famous, and it they could literally do whatever they want, they could say whatever they want, they can change it up mid time, like they don't have to really worry about fostering and like present and getting found by new people because they're if their name is shown, like people are gonna come watch, right? And then there's people who are building it from the ground up who are not super famous that like have to build a community as they go, and so that's what we're doing, and we're well, and we've always known that.
SPEAKER_01We've always said from the beginning, like podcasting from a place of like without like like Allison is more known for sure, but like without being like a named celebrity, it's a long game.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, in the grand scheme, like known that fitness art fitness marshall fans are a blip compared to fans of what's that?
SPEAKER_01What's the giggly squad?
SPEAKER_00Um, Paige DeSorbo and Hannah Bernard, but even then, like Amy Polar.
SPEAKER_01She started her podcast and then instantly had listeners. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_00So it's like she didn't, I mean, she has a great structure and she like has a vision throughout the whole thing, and it's the same every time, which I do think is good for her. Yeah. But I mean, she posted her first one and it was like Yeah, and she won the first Grammy for podcasting. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01But like that's not discouraging to us. It's just like we know that we're on a different road, but we believe in what we're doing, and the fact that we have such a consistent listener return tells us like there is something here. So yeah, it's exciting.
SPEAKER_00I'm excited.
SPEAKER_01So
Pop Culture Catch-Up Rapid Fire
SPEAKER_01that being said, since this is just kind of because there is gonna be a couple weeks until our full show comes back, but we did want to do a quick recap of some of the top. Um, I made a list of the top 10 pop culture moments that have happened since we've taken a break. So we can kind of talk through them a little bit if you're down.
SPEAKER_00Yep, hit me.
SPEAKER_01Uh the 2026 American Music Awards Chaos.
SPEAKER_00Remind me.
SPEAKER_01Let's recap. The AMA's dominated entertainment news at the end of May between BTS's big win, which that was exciting. It was, yeah. Don't worry, that's on the list. BTS is here. Sabrina Carpenter's surprise victories, Queen Latifah hosting, and major performance moments. The show generated a ton of online discussion. However, this was kind of the shocking part of the night. Taylor Swift was a no-show.
SPEAKER_00People really usually goes if she's she didn't go.
SPEAKER_01Remember, I went to the AMA's last year.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01She didn't show then. She wasn't nominated for anything. She had eight noms this week this year and did not show. We really thought she was gonna show and she didn't.
SPEAKER_00But she didn't win anything. She knew she wasn't gonna win. That's why she didn't come.
SPEAKER_01Um right? Correct.
SPEAKER_00Okay. I'm sorry, but BTS they like they it's a big deal. Came back, they dropped an album, and it it people are so excited that they're back. So like I feel like it was, yeah.
SPEAKER_01BTS coming back is huge, and it's like you guys know if you have a longtime listener, listen listeners, that my bias is Jimin.
SPEAKER_00And do you see the videos? How is he looking crazy?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Malvin knew what he was doing.
SPEAKER_00Do you see the like fan videos of the tour?
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_00Wow.
SPEAKER_01Uh, my friend Lisa from Canada, she has just discovered BTS and is now like creating BTS fan content on TikTok and it's going off.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So I commented on it when I was like, she's like, oh my god, I'm going to see them. She got like floor seats in Canada. Like, she's the first time she'll ever see them. I was like, oh my god, I'm going to. And she goes, because Allison is Army, right? And I was like, yes. Literally because of Allison. Um, so we're going to be able to do that.
SPEAKER_00And I will say, I don't know if I said this on a podcast before when I got the tickets. They have successfully allowed people to buy tickets at normal prices. Like our seats are pretty good. Okay, good. For and I spent like, I don't know, $230 total. Amazing.
SPEAKER_01Amazing.
SPEAKER_00It was a we're not even super high. We are on the first elevated section.
SPEAKER_01Is it SoFi again?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Hell yeah.
SPEAKER_00So artists can do it, you know? Art Terry Styles, it's possible. You just want money. Now, granted, they make a lot of money outside of tour, big time. Which I know some artists don't do. So I understand the disparity, if you will. Like they have so many, they've diversified themselves in so many ways that they're all you're right.
SPEAKER_01They're making coins.
SPEAKER_00But still, it is possible.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um Taylor Swift doing a song for Toy Story 5.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but she does a lot of songs for movies. I don't know. I don't kind of don't care. Is that bad?
SPEAKER_01No, it's not bad. It's just news. It was like a they teased it. Yeah, they did.
SPEAKER_00They were like doing TS Toy Story Story Taylor Swift. It is country, right? So that's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_01I listened to the preview. It's cute. It's cute. It's cute.
SPEAKER_00Is it giving debut album? Or is it like not that country?
SPEAKER_01Not that country, no. No. It's cute though.
SPEAKER_00Speaking of Taylor, um it's kind of giving life of a showgirl TVH. This annoyed me with the NBA finals because um Travis is from Ohio. Cleveland was in the Eastern Conference Finals. So the next one. Don't I know?
SPEAKER_01I was kept on an airplane while that thing went on.
SPEAKER_00Right, right. So her and Travis were courtside at the game, and because there's not a lot of other celebs that are like rooting for Ohio, they were kind of the focal point, and the announcers like would not say her name. They were like Travis Kelsey and his girlfriend. No. They would first of all they didn't even say fiance.
SPEAKER_01Really?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. It's like you know who she is.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god. That's actually annoying. I hate that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um I still love Taylor Swift. Okay.
SPEAKER_00I do too. I just, it's not like I feel like she does a lot of music for movies. Yeah. So I feel like they made such a big deal out of it when it's like she does that a lot.
SPEAKER_01You're right. I don't know. You're right. No, you're right. You're right. You're right. You're right.
SPEAKER_00I'm being a pessimist, if you will. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Not a pessimist, just a hater.
SPEAKER_00Hater. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um, also, the summer movie season has kicked into gear. The first major trailers uh for Spider-Man, Supergirl, The Odyssey, Toy Story 5, and Coyote versus Acme.
SPEAKER_00What?
SPEAKER_01Coyote versus Acme is huge. I actually can't talk about it on the podcast, but I'll tell you about it afterwards.
SPEAKER_00Wait, there's a new movie about aliens, right? And the government. Steven Spielberg called the Something Day.
SPEAKER_01It's like Disclosure Day.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So I saw I didn't I didn't know nothing about it. I saw a trailer once. I didn't understand what was going on. There was like a lot of animal eyes. Yeah, yeah. I was like, what is this movie? Yeah. And then I learned it was about aliens and I feel like to me, it's kind of giving that one movie with um Cabin in the Woods.
SPEAKER_01No, knock on the Cabin. Nope.
SPEAKER_00No. The frick. Is that Julia Roberts?
SPEAKER_01The day the earth. No, it's um it's the one on Netflix where all the Teslas run into each other. Yes, it is.
SPEAKER_00Hold on, I gotta look. Not me looking at Mama's Family. Did you watch that?
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_00When you were little? Such a good show.
SPEAKER_01The end of the world and the day that it all happened. What? That would never be a good idea.
SPEAKER_00I have to look up Julia Roberts because that's the only person I know.
SPEAKER_01And then it's like the rich people in the bunker. Yeah, totally.
SPEAKER_00But I want to know if it's like gonna be like that. Leave the world behind.
SPEAKER_01Leave the world behind. Well, that is like a virus that shuts down the power grid and fucks everyone over. This is aliens. We'll see. I'm very excited for the Odyssey.
SPEAKER_00Did you read that book when you were in school?
SPEAKER_01No, I don't really I Hello, did I just fuck everything up? No, okay. Um I'm not worried I'm not concerned so much about the Odyssey as I am about the Ewan McGregor uh Anne Hathaway film where they're they like randomly jump back in time and they're and they they live in like the 70s, it takes place in the 70s, and it's just like their entire neighborhood is overrun with dinosaurs, they end up in prehistoric time. What? You've got to watch it. A24.
SPEAKER_00Okay. So I don't know if I love every A24 movie I see.
SPEAKER_01You should.
SPEAKER_00Anne Hathaway is in that one book movie that I'm excited about. And Dakota Johnson, my girls.
SPEAKER_01The one where she's an artist, a music artist?
SPEAKER_00No, Verity.
SPEAKER_01What? Did you say Verity?
SPEAKER_00Verity. It's her name. It's basically like oh, she's an author. And I don't know if you that's what you saw. Anne Hathaway is an author who's like bedridden, like a vegetable, basically.
SPEAKER_01And like I know this name because you've told me about this book.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and Dakota is a young girl that meets her husband and they kind of start falling in love because like his wife is a vegetable.
SPEAKER_01But it turns out she's not really a vegetable.
SPEAKER_00Well, I don't want to give it away.
SPEAKER_01Well, you've said on the podcast already, but is that what it is?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's a it's a thriller and like things, things change.
SPEAKER_01Verity. I do remember you telling you about that. I'm so excited about it. It's a great book. Have you seen The Devil Rose Prada 2 yet?
SPEAKER_00I haven't. Crazy. You know what? I still haven't seen Wicked 2.
SPEAKER_01And I'm telling you right now, I know.
SPEAKER_00I feel like I'm scared too because I know I'm gonna, I feel like bummed as hell. I was like, well, in the internet world, um Tell me. We had
Summer House Cheating Scandal Fallout
SPEAKER_00did Scamandeville happen before we It did happen before we stopped. But we didn't talk about it.
SPEAKER_01We didn't talk about it.
SPEAKER_00So um if you guys don't remember, quick recap The show Summer House had another had a cheating scandal, much like on Vanderpump with um Tom and Raquel. And this is Amanda and West. And on the show, there was a girl named Sierra who on and off dated West, and they were never like super um solid as a relationship, but they were on and off. She was in like you could, it was very clear she was in super a lot of love with him. Yeah, he's kind of a player kind of guy. Amanda, who was married to Kyle Cook on the show, he um Amanda was best friends with Sierra and was like the main girl she would go to and cry about West, and she would give her um advice and she'd be like, screw him, you don't need him, like that kind of thing, whatever. Amanda and Kyle file for divorce, and then pretty soon after, Amanda um and West get together, and Sierra is kind of getting some inklings. I think some some people are talking. She gets a video that someone took through a window, which is crazy, of them like making out or whatever.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_00And Sierra texts her and she's like, Hey, gonna ask you a question, like, are you with Wes? And Amanda's like, No, no, no. She's like, Well, I have a video. She did not send it out or anything, which is actually like cool of her not to do. She was like trying to meet up with her, she met up with the girl who took the video, who's like, Don't send it. Like, I don't want it to be in the cloud. Met up with her, saw the video. She was like, That's them, and they're kissing. That's crazy. And Amanda like did not respond to her for hours and hours and hours, and then she did, and she was like, Look, um, we're just like seeing what's happening. Or I don't know, like, didn't have a big explanation. And then they sent out a joint Instagram story that was like, right, this is a new relationship, and we're just seeing how it's going, and blah, blah, blah. Then um, the reunion just aired for Summer House, and they were screaming, it was crazy. Wait, really? Yeah, this past week. So that has been a huge like thing for the at least the past month for sure.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god.
SPEAKER_00Love Island
Love Island Kissing Is Out Of Control
SPEAKER_00just started this past week.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, I am bored, but I think maybe beginning the beginning of every season is kind of a little boring, a little slow. Okay. You find your favorites and yes, but there's been this thing over the past like couple seasons of Love Island that they just like make them make out a lot.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00A lot more than they used to be. Like at the beginning, they would get them paired up by it, would be like the girls are all standing in a line, and the guy would like be standing there and he'd be like, if you are interested in dating this guy, step forward. And then the girls who were interested would step forward and then the guy would pick one, and then they would go stand next to each other, and they weren't making out for like 30 seconds with like the most tongue I've ever seen in my life. They were just like, Okay, we're paired together, and then they would get to know each other for a couple days, and then they might have a uh challenge where they have to kiss, but like I'm not kidding, night one, before they even get paired together, they bring each other out and they're just like make out with each other. And it's like they're the way that they're French kissing is like the tongue is like you see it, it oh my god, yeah, it is shooting out of their mouth. Oh, and it's really gross anyway. It's a lot to watch, and I'm stressed out by it, but uh now we're like a weekend, so the personalities are coming out more, and it's like people you like with Love Island, it's every day, it's every day except for Sunday, I think. Okay, there's like an after show, it's on Peacock. It's on Peacock.
SPEAKER_01Wow, yeah, crazy, crazy.
SPEAKER_00I feel like there's more internet things, but like I don't know.
SPEAKER_01There's always internet things though.
SPEAKER_00I know I'm just like more tapped in.
SPEAKER_01You are, you are, you are on the internet. How

SPEAKER_00Yeah. So anyway, that. Um, but we did a cool um event the other day where we got to I saw, were you guys at like a farmer's market? No, it was a YouTube event, but it was like a bunch of press was there, so it was cool. We got to tell our story, and we actually talked to Mel Melrose Trading Post, and they were like, if you guys want to come have a booth, like Oh my god, yeah. So we were like, we should do that. So we might actually start getting into some more booth activities.
SPEAKER_01Okay, cute, cute.
SPEAKER_00Uh, but yeah, we're kind of just business as usual, but it's good.

SPEAKER_01We're not talking about a couch, we're talking about a fountain.
SPEAKER_00Oh, fountain. You know the intro when they're swimming in the fountain, I her couch.
SPEAKER_01The fountain in the intro is actually at Paramount, not Warner Brothers.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, okay, go ahead.
SPEAKER_01So Allison's gonna get to see it. She's never been to the Paramount lot.
SPEAKER_00That's exciting.
