OVERTHINKERS ANONYMOUS
Charting a Path of Fearless Decision-Making
Ever find yourself paralyzed by the fear of making the wrong choice, spiraling down into a maze of what-ifs and maybes? I've been there, tormented by indecision, and in this heart-to-heart, I share the crucial insights I've gained on why seizing the moment matters. We unravel the complexities of overthinking and indecision, discussing how these can lead to a life of missed shots and what-could-have-beens. With stories that echo our own experiences, we confront the reality that rapid choices aren't as reckless as they seem; rather, they're leaps of faith based on the best intel we have. By embracing the possibility of errors, we grow and free ourselves from the mental chains that hold us back.
This episode isn't just about recounting tales of lost chances; it's a crusade against the over-analysis that costs us opportunities and dreams. I recount a personal tale of a karate school dream deferred by overthinking, which became a lesson in the power of swift, bold action. We'll explore how to harness this bravery in our decision-making, standing firm in our choices and inviting profound transformation into our lives. So, join me and let's step into a world where we turn ‘what if’ into ‘what is’, confidently charting a course towards an empowered and decisive existence with each episode of Overthinkers Anonymous.

I've been up and down for so long. Crazy how right can become so wrong. The thoughts in my head Keep me on a constant rollercoaster and I just want some peace. Tonight Feels like my heart done, left me stranded, just floating away on a melody, leaving me to all my tears. I just hope somebody here's landed Sides to come and rescue me, cause I've been through so many and the only way to get past the pain Are the prayers that pray to keep my sanity.
Speaker 1:Tell me, have you ever been caught up in your mind, so unaware of time, cause you can't stop thinking, oh, and it feels like you're breaking down inside. You wanna let it ride, but you can't, cause you're overthinking it all. Am I really as good as I think I am, or am I strutting in my mind like it's strutting on the ground? Father, please tell me again, cause your voice is so felfish, but it's on the days when I'm thinking with it, even after you said that I went. Tell me walk bold, cause you're queen and I'm loving how you dream and your representation. No, you ain't perfect, but, baby, you gon' make it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, baby girl, you gon' make it. You still stop overthinking.
Speaker 1:Overthinking has a tendency to delay your decision making process. Sometimes there will be situations where you will have to make a fast and a quick decision, but if we get stuck in the process of overthinking every situation, then we'll delay our decision making process. That delay can cause us to miss out on opportunities that could have really benefited us. That decision that needed to be made may have had only a small window of opportunity and because we got stuck in the process of overthinking, we missed out. Has that ever happened to you? That's happened to me on countless situations, countless times where I have overthought the situation and delayed my decision and therefore I missed out on something, an opportunity that could have benefited me. Have you ever been in that situation?
Speaker 1:It's almost like we feel that making an instant decision means that we're being reckless and irresponsible. Is that how you feel? I know I sometimes feel that I'm being irresponsible or I'm just being reckless and just being boneheaded, and just you know, and that I'm making a mistake when I have to make a quick and fast decision. But an instant decision does not necessarily mean that you're being reckless and irresponsible, but it means that you're making the decision based upon the information that you had available at that time, and so now, will your decision always work out for you? Most times it will. Most times, you will find, if you have to make a quick and fast decision, most times it will be the right decision. But there will be times that that decision will be a wrong one and it will not work out.
Speaker 1:But sometimes we still have to be willing to throw caution to the wind and take the chance. Take the chance Because guess what? Nobody is perfect, and so we have to leave space in our lives for mistakes. We will not get everything correct. We're not going to do everything correct all the time. Every day there are going to be times where we will mess up, but we have to be able to allow ourselves that time. We have to be able to allow ourselves to have that grace to be able to make a mistake, and so sometimes your decision may not work out.
Speaker 1:Maybe the info that you had at the time was complete, maybe it wasn't, it maybe was incorrect, maybe you didn't have all of the information that you needed, but you made a decision based on what you had, and so once you make the decision, then you have to be okay with whatever. The outcome is, good or bad. It was your decision. And so sometimes most times when we have to make a quick decision, a fast decision, most times it's going to work out and be good. But there will be times where the quick decision, the fast decision, will not work out so well. But it can still be good in that you can learn from the mistake. You can learn from the mistake, and so if I learn from the mistake, then the mistake can turn out to be something that's good, and so it can still be good for your life and so. But you're going to have to be able to be comfortable, you're going to have to be able to be okay with making the decision, and whatever the outcome of the decision is good or bad, because, as I said, even if it's bad, it can still work for your good, because you can learn and you can never have to make that mistake ever again.
Speaker 1:And so, as an overthinker, we have a tendency to be overly cautious, overly cautious. It's okay to be cautious. Being cautious is prudent, being cautious is smart. It's smart to be cautious. But being too cautious can cause you problems. It can cause you to have issues.
Speaker 1:When you're too cautious, you're scared of everything. You're scared to make a mistake, you're scared to do anything, you're scared to make a move. When you're too cautious, sometimes we think that everything is going to harm us. And everything is not going to harm you. Everything one is not out to get you, but because we are overly cautious, we're overly cautious, we put ourselves into a box, we lock ourselves into a box, unwilling now to venture out of our comfort zones, unwilling to venture out into the unknown. Because you haven't experienced it before, because you're unfamiliar with the territory, because you don't know very much about it. And so we box ourselves in from the outside world. We do it to ourselves because we're overly cautious. And guess what? In doing so, we miss out on great opportunities, great opportunities.
Speaker 1:Maybe it was a business deal and you took too long to make the decision. So the deal went on without you and ended up being a very prosperous deal. But you missed out because you delayed in making the decision. Maybe it was your friends that invited you to go out or to go on a trip with them and you took too long to make up your mind and they went without you, and then one of the friends, while on the trip, ended up finding the love of their life. That could have been you, had you not locked yourself into a box of indecision, of overthinking. It could have been you. You could have been happy and thriving and progressing right now, but you took too long to make up your mind.
Speaker 1:Listen, it could be something as simple, as you were wanting to purchase something and you finally saw that it went on sale. And then, when it went on sale, instead of you clicking buy or instead of you going and buying it and purchasing it, you decided to think about it a little bit more. And you thought about it a little bit more and then, when you went back to actually purchase it, it was no longer in sale. So that cost you some money, simple things. It could be something as simple as that, as you wanted to go back to school and a door of opportunity finally opens up to you and you're an opportunity for the financing to be able to go back to school, something that you had been wanting to do for a long time, but it's still of going through with the plan. You sat back and thought about it some more and when you finally made a decision to go forward, the door of opportunity had closed. The financing, the window for financing had closed up on you and was no longer available, and so now you were stuck once again because you put yourself in the box of indecision. Through overthinking, you put yourself in a box because you were overly cautious overly cautious.
Speaker 1:On the last podcast, I told you a little bit about my family. One of the things that I did not mention is that my husband is a fifth degree black belt and I am also a black belt. Now, I'm not a fifth degree, but I am a black belt. Also, I mentioned that I have four children, and all of my children are black belts, so we are a family of black belts. So years ago, my husband put together his own karate style, his own karate method, and we began to go forth and we began to teach it, and so we had a desire now to open up and start a karate school. We wanted to start a karate school so that we could teach others, and especially children, in our community. If you know anything about karate, karate teaches you discipline, it teaches you focus, it teaches you how to harness all of your ability, and so we thought that that was something that was very needed in the community, especially in the school systems with the children, and so it was our desire now to open up a karate school.
Speaker 1:One day we were out shopping and we saw a building for rent in a shopping center. It was a brand new building and it would have been perfect for a karate school. So we got out of the car and we went and looked at the building. It was a nice open space, high visibility, high traffic area. It was perfect. The building was perfect to house a karate school. So we went home and we thought about it and we thought about it, and we thought about it and we got caught in the process of overthinking. We got caught up in that process and, before you knew it, weeks had passed. And so, after a few weeks had passed, we went back and looked at the building. And would you believe that when we went back to look at the building the second time, the building was rented. The building was rented and you will never guess who rented the building. It's quite perplexing, quite overwhelming. But the people that rented the building was a karate school. So we saw the building first.
Speaker 1:We got caught in the overthinking process and didn't make the decision to move on the building right away. And someone came right behind us and moved on the decision to get the building and opened up a brand new karate school, exactly like what we wanted to do. Guess what that? Our overthinking caused us to be indecisive and cause us to miss out on a great opportunity. We missed out on a great opportunity. That school that they opened in that building went on to open up multiple locations, not only in our city but in other cities around. That school went on to be very, very successful and, looking back at it, that could have been us. It could have been that success could have been us had we moved on the opportunity when it presented itself. Now we eventually opened up a karate school, but the building was nothing like that first building. It wasn't even in the same area. But think how much more successful our school could have been if we had not let overthinking stop us from making a timely decision. Has your overthinking cost you opportunities? Has it stopped you from making timely decisions that could have benefited you in a great way? That could have brought you a lot of success.
Speaker 1:We can't allow ourselves to get caught up in the process of overthinking, but sometimes we're going to have to throw caution to the wind and make the decision based upon all of the information that you have and then, once you make that decision, stand on your decision. Don't be afraid to stand on your decision. Be brave. I want you this week, to make a decision about something. I want you to begin to make decisions based upon all of the information that you have available to you at the time. Do your due diligence, do your research and then make a decision. And then, once you make the decision, be okay with whatever the outcome of your decision is. Be okay about it. Be brave In order to experience freedom from overthinking.
Speaker 1:Guess what. We have got to start somewhere. So let's take this step, this little step, this week. Even if it's just one decision that you make, then guess what? That one decision will lead to another, and another, and another, and pretty soon you're going to find yourself free from that box that you've placed yourself in, and so let's start the process now. Let's start the process.
Speaker 1:Be brave, you can do it. I have. I said this to you last week, but I believe it wholeheartedly that you have every opportunity. You have everything that you need to be able to be successful, but you're going to have to be brave. Be brave, throw caution to the wind and act on your decisions. Act on you know what brave means.
Speaker 1:Brave means showing mental or moral strength in the face of danger, fear or difficulty. Being brave means having or showing courage. Let's show courage today. Let's show operate in courage on this week. Have the courage to make it happen. Have the courage to make a decision and stand by your decision and watch what happens to your life. Watch your life begin to transform before your eyes, but it calls for you to begin to make a decision. Listen, that's all I have for you today. I know I share a lot of stories, but I have a lot of stories. I have a lot of experience, which affords me a wealth of knowledge, a wealth of wisdom to be able to share with you, and so I want you to be back here on next week for a brand new episode of Overthinkers Anonymous. I'm your host, pam Gonsolin, and I'll see you later. Bye-bye, so stop overthinking. Had you ever Been caught up in your mind, so unaware of time? Cause you can't stop thinking of.
