The Ministering Angel Podcast

Why God Didn’t Give You Armour for Retreat!

Ronald Myers jr

The episode discusses the Armour of God as described in Ephesians 6:13-17, emphasizing how it equips believers to stand firm in spiritual battles. The podcast highlights that while the armour covers the front, it leaves the back unprotected to signify that God intends for His followers to face challenges head-on, not retreat. With references to biblical scriptures like Isaiah 52:12, Exodus 14:14, and Psalm 18:39, Ronald and his co-hosts assert that God is our rear guard and strength, encouraging listeners to trust in Him, lift their shield of faith, and use the Word of God as their sword. The episode concludes by inspiring believers to adopt a stance of victory, not retreat, advocating for trust in God's protection and power.

Have you ever noticed that the Armour of God has no protection for your back? This is not an oversight, it is a message from God about how we are to live and fight in this spiritual battle we face daily.

Ephesians 6:13-17 says:

“Therefore take up the whole armour of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one, and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

The Purpose of Each Piece of Armour

Notice each piece of this armour: the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit. Every piece is designed to protect us from the front. None cover our backs.

Why is that?

God's Design: No Armour for Retreat

Because God did not design His children to run from battles. He did not design us to retreat when spiritual warfare, challenges, or trials arise in our lives. We are called to stand firm and face the battle, knowing we are not fighting in our own strength but in the strength of the Lord.

God has not called us to be fearful or to run from the enemy when we face opposition. We are to lift the shield of faith and quench every fiery dart of the enemy. We are to draw the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, and fight back with truth. We are to wear the helmet of salvation to guard our minds and stand firm in our identity in Christ. We are to put on the breastplate of righteousness, living lives set apart for God. We are to have our feet ready with the gospel of peace, moving forward in the truth of God’s Word.

Standing Firm in Faith

We do not fight alone. God fights with us and for us.

God as Our Rear Guard

Isaiah 52:12 says:

“For the Lord will go before you, and the God of Israel will be your rear guard.”

God Himself covers our backs. We do not need to cover them ourselves because He has promised to be our rear guard, protecting us from attacks that we cannot see and shielding us from what comes behind us. He is not only leading us forward, He is securing us from behind.

This is why there is no armour for retreat. God has designed us to advance in faith, not to turn our backs to the enemy. The enemy wants you to run so you will expose your unprotected back and give him an advantage, but God wants you to stand firm, knowing He is your shield and your strength.

The Consequences of Retreating

In battles, fear often tempts us to run. We fear loss, rejection, pain, or defeat. But running from battles leads to defeat. Retreating from spiritual warfare only gives the enemy more ground in your life. When you retreat, you open yourself up to further attacks, discouragement, and bondage.

Trusting God in the Battle

God calls you to stand firm, trusting that He is fighting your battles.

There are seasons in your walk with God when it may feel like you are surrounded by battles on every side, and the easiest option would be to give up, withdraw, and run away from what God has called you to face. But the Lord is calling you to stand, to fight, and to trust that victory is assured because of who He is, not because of who you are.

The Bible says in Exodus 14:14:

“The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”

When you stand, you are declaring in faith that God is your defender and you trust Him to fight for you. When you lift your shield of faith, you are actively blocking the lies, accusations, and fiery arrows of the enemy. When you draw your sword of the Spirit, you are using the Word of God to strike back, speaking truth over your situation, and pushing back the darkness.

Running may feel easier, but it will never lead to victory. Standing firm, rooted in Christ, leads to victory.

Equipped for Victory

We are designed to stand and fight, knowing God is with us, empowering us by His Spirit to overcome every scheme and attack of the enemy.

David said in Psalm 18:39:

“For you equipped me with strength for the battle; you made those who rise against me sink under me.”

God equips you with strength for the battle. He does not call you to fight empty-handed or ill-equipped. He has given you every spiritual weapon you need to overcome. He has given you authority in the name of Jesus to stand against the works of darkness. He has given you the Word, which is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword. He has given you faith that can move mountains, and He has filled you with His Spirit, who is your comforter, guide, and source of power.

You do not need to fear what is in front of you, and you do not need to fear what is behind you, because the Lord is your defender and your rear guard. When you stand your ground, the enemy loses his grip, and God’s power is made perfect in your weakness.

God is raising up believers who will not run in the face of opposition but will stand firm in faith, knowing that the victory belongs to the Lord. He is looking for those who will trust Him enough to face the battles head-on, believing that He is greater than any obstacle or enemy they may encounter.

Final Encouragement and Declaration

So today, if you are tempted to run from your battles, remember why there is no armour for your back. Remember that you are not designed to live in retreat. You are designed to stand and fight. You are designed to overcome. You are designed to advance God’s kingdom, pushing back darkness with the light of Christ within you.

You do not stand alone. You stand with God, and He stands with you. Your role is to stand in faith, lift your shield, draw your sword, and refuse to retreat. Trust that God will cover your back as you move forward in obedience and faith.

Let this be your declaration:

I will not run from my battles. I will not retreat from the spiritual warfare I face. I will stand firm, fully clothed in the Armour of God, knowing that God is my defender, my protector, and my strength. I will face the battle, knowing that victory is mine in Christ Jesus.

God did not give you armour for retreat because you are not called to live in retreat. You are called to live in victory, to stand firm, to fight the good fight of faith, and to advance the kingdom of God. Trust Him, stand firm, and watch Him fight for you.
