The Bible often refers to us as sheep. Psalm 100:3 reminds us, “Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.” This comparison is not random.

The Vulnerability of Sheep Without a Shepherd

Sheep are animals that naturally lose their way, require guidance, and remain vulnerable without the covering of a shepherd. Their survival depends on having a leader who can protect and direct them. Spiritually, we are no different. Left to ourselves, we drift. Without a shepherd, we are exposed, aimless, and easily led astray.

The enemy knows this reality better than we often do. He understands that without true guidance, the flock is defenseless.

The Danger of Wolves Among Us

That is why he plants wolves among the people. These wolves do not always appear dangerous at first glance. They may blend in, speak persuasively, and even position themselves as leaders, but their true aim is destruction. They are there to mislead, to scatter, and to weaken.

This is nothing new. Scripture repeatedly warns us of false prophets and deceptive teachers. Jesus himself said in Matthew 7:15, “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.” But what has become overwhelmingly clear today is how often these wolves are listened to in the modern church.

Listening to the Wrong Shepherds

Many have tuned their ears to the wrong shepherd. The result is devastating: countless believers have been led off course, leaving the body of Christ weak, fragmented, and lacking in power.

Reflecting on Our Spiritual State

Take a moment to reflect. We know the might, power, and promises of God. We read them in Scripture. We sing them in worship songs. We hear them preached week after week. Yet the reality is sobering. Why are so few walking in them? Why are miracles, bold faith, and unshakable hope not the norm among us? Why are we so content to sit in church while failing to live out what we have so frequently heard and read?

The truth is, we are listening to the wrong voices. We crave comfort instead of conviction, entertainment instead of truth, motivational words instead of the unshakable Word of God. We should be hungering and thirsting for righteousness, for more of God’s presence, and for His promises to manifest in our lives—not just in heaven but here on earth today. Jesus did not die and rise again for us to merely survive life until eternity. He came that we might have life and have it abundantly right now.

The answer is simple, even if it is difficult to face. We are listening to the wrong shepherd.

The Call to Repentance

But here is the good news—it is not too late. God’s mercy and goodness are unmatched, and His invitation to return to Him still stands. Repentance is the first step toward redemption. To repent means to turn around, to leave behind the voices and influences that have drawn us away, and to set our eyes once again on the true Shepherd, Jesus Christ.

Cry out to God for forgiveness for straying from Him. Do not hold back. Speak honestly about where you’ve drifted, about how you have allowed other voices to lead you. Seek Him earnestly, as if your very life depends on it, because it does. Every moment without Him leaves you vulnerable. Every step away from His path opens the door wider for deception to enter.

The beautiful thing about God is that His mercy is new every morning, His compassion never fails, and His goodness has no equal.

Returning to the Good Shepherd

He is always ready to welcome you back when you draw near to Him. But the responsibility is yours. You must move toward Him. You cannot sit idly by and hope for change without action. Faith requires a response, and the response God calls for begins with repentance and pursuit.

So I ask you directly—will you? Will you turn your ear away from the wrong shepherds and tune your heart back to the voice of the Good Shepherd? Jesus said in John 10:27, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” If you are His, then you must know His voice. And if you have not been following, now is the time to return.

The time for excuses is over. The time for complacency has passed.

The Choice is Yours

The body of Christ must rise with clarity, strength, and power—but that only happens when we follow the right Shepherd. The call has been made. The path has been revealed. The choice is now yours.
