Royally Quacked: An LA Kings and Anaheim Ducks Hockey Podcast
Episode 99- Panarin Joins the Kings, Ducks Plot Their Push, Olympic Hockey Arrives!
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
A quiet week off? Not even close. We came back to a league on tilt: Artemi Panarin chose Los Angeles, signed a buyout-proof two-year deal, and instantly changed how the Kings attack the stretch run. Meanwhile, the Ducks balanced a heartfelt farewell to a beloved superfan with a gritty push to keep a playoff spot, riding big nights from Cutter Gauthier, Mikael Granlund, and Jackson LaCombe while grinding through a maddening shutout loss and a satisfying sweep of Vegas.
We pull apart the Panarin trade from every angle—return value, retention, and why a short, bonus-heavy extension makes sense for a win-now window. Then we get practical: best line fits to wake up Byfield, whether Kopitar-Kempe-Panarin becomes a sledgehammer, and how another center at the deadline could let Byfield slide back to wing for a deeper top six. On the Ducks side, we walk through clever reassignment moves during the Olympic freeze, spotlight a fourth line that hunts pucks and creates chaos, and track how special teams and defensive lapses can swing a game in four minutes flat.
Across the league, the temperature spiked. William Nylander’s on-camera fine, outdoor-game mayhem with a goalie fight and a four-goal comeback, and a string of injuries and suspensions set the tone. We sift through under-the-radar trades that clear cap and hint at bigger moves after the freeze. The Olympics reshaped rosters, too, with Sweden, Canada, and Finland naming replacements, and a packed viewing slate that might preview international lines before NHL play resumes. Finally, we chart the playoff picture, highlight where Anaheim, Seattle, and LA are bunching up, and break down cap space as the true deadline weapon—Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Anaheim have room to strike, while LA kept just enough to address center depth.
If you love smart hockey talk—line chemistry, prospect vs. proven star debates, cap strategy, and the little plays that win big games—you’ll feel right at home. Tap follow, share with a fan who needs a sane breakdown of the Panarin deal, and leave a quick review to help more listeners find us. What move would you make next for the Ducks or Kings?

Back From A Break
SPEAKER_05I really missed you guys last week. I don't know about you, Cody, but I missed doing this last week. But it was for a really great reason.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Um, Cody's grandparents, my in-laws' 65th wedding anniversary celebration. It was a lot of fun.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_05You know, got to meet a lot of their friends that possibly didn't know before. So, but it was a lot of fun. And uh, but it we did miss doing the podcast. Yes, hopefully you guys missed us.
SPEAKER_00So oh, and then also like I was on call last week too. I had Saturday off, but like we were gone all day Saturday for the party. Luckily, somebody covered for me, and then Sunday, and I like I said, I was back on call, and we wanted to give you guys a nice relaxed episode where you didn't have to worry about me having to take calls or leave in the middle of the podcast.
SPEAKER_05So we we don't want to rush through it anyway. So yeah, so we took took a week off, but we're back. Hopefully, everybody's joining us today live on YouTube. It's Royally Quacked.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I guess I I miss I I miss this. Um, it felt weird not having to like post and like stuff, you know, like new episode for this or this. I was like, like, because I have like certain days where I do certain things, and then when I get on those days, I was like, Oh, that's right, we didn't do an episode.
SPEAKER_05Well, you did let everybody know we were gonna take a week off, yes.
SPEAKER_00But like I meant like I did, I like it was just weird because I didn't have any new stuff to post. There were no new reels or or anything.
SPEAKER_05Uh Adam, we're gonna really grind it out, baby, today.
SPEAKER_00No relaxing, put in the work.
Ducks News And A Farewell
SPEAKER_05Um, yeah, and we won't have mama quack uh it making any comments. She's on her way to a really good friend's uh baby shower, I believe. So you don't know? I think it's a baby shower. I'm pretty sure. You think said something about a rattle, so it's gotta be a baby shower. I'm I'm pretty sure that's she's gonna listen to this and slap me upside the head, probably. Anyways, you deserve it. We got lots of news, lots of games. Yeah, so why don't we get it kit started, Cody?
SPEAKER_00All right, I'll start it out. Um, Lukashdol Stahl was named the NHL third star of the week. It wasn't from last week, it was the week before the one that we missed. Um, he posted a 4-0 record with a 2.18 goals against average and a uh 925 save percentage. Um, and the next one is um yeah, I'm gonna skip that one for right now. Um, you know, this this next one has not nothing to do because you'll find out when my dad talks about his King's news. Um, but Elliot Freeman states the ducks were ready to trade for Panarin without an extension in place. However, Panarin wanted a contract set in place before he gets traded. The reason for the hesitation on Anaheim's end is due to the amount of players that they already are looking to locking up to long-term deals. Carlson, Gautier, um Zellweger, and uh Minti. Um, this is where the two camps stand at the moment, and it is expected that Panair will be dealt before the Olympic break. So, and but that's gonna get spoiled later on. Um, I as okay, it'll it'll we'll get more information on the whole Panarin front later.
SPEAKER_04There you go.
SPEAKER_00So, and also they were saying um for Beak didn't want um also didn't want to give him an extension right away because he wanted to see if he was a good fit for us, too.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that makes sense.
Kings Updates And Panarin Trade Details
SPEAKER_00And then um last bit of ducks new, or actually not last bit, um the ducks have reassigned center Tim Washi and right winger Sam Calangelo to San Diego goals because the AHL still playing during the Olympic break. So let them uh those two guys are gonna get some more playing time. It's not like they're getting demoted, it's just they're down there so they can get more time. And then the last bit of Ducks news. Um, I want to say, um, and very sad news is we the ducks we lost a legend um on January 25th, 2026. Ducks Talman got his duck wings and took flight after an eight-month battle with small cell lung cancer. Um, this and I I took this from their post. They said, um, we were all his favorite part about going to home games as much as he loved the team, he loved the fans, he was well known around the arena for his positive vibes, and he always passed out those little lights that he always had on his uh fingers and his uh outfit. Um, like I said, I I just he was a legend. I I think I talked to him once. I I like I said and he was such a nice guy, and it's it sucks that we lost someone like this like so early. I believe they said he was uh 56 years old, if I remember right. Um, so very early, really nice guy, like I said. Um I hope I hope I guess I don't know their their the the the name. Um I wish I did. I I should reach out. Um, but I guess I hope they're doing good. If you guys, if you go on social media, you know, put it out there, let them know, like you know, hey, I'm sorry for your loss and stuff like that. Like I said, this guy was a legend, like he had the hockey mask, he had the full like ducks towels as his outfit, and I guess it just sucks that we lost a ducks legend like this so early. So I just wanted to put it out there and you know, and say like you know, sorry for the loss, and you know, us all us hockey and ducks fans will say you will be missed dearly at home games. So um, and then we got Adam in the chat. No mama quacked. Guess I've got to double up the chaos, then. Well, of course, and then uh Marwa uh S2H1U said hi. Hello, hey, uh, and then uh that that's it for Ducks News.
SPEAKER_05All right, Kings News, and some of this is old news. I mean, Alex Kurt Turcott day to day with the upper body injury, he has still not come back from that yet. And the kings did recall Kenny Connors from Ontario Rain. He has 24 points, nine goals, 15 assists, and 41 games for the rain. Then he's I he also was uh maybe I it's down farther, but he was loaned back to Ontario, never did get to play in a game. But Taylor Ward came up and kind of impressed the coaches, um, and has played pretty well on the fourth line. I think it was uh Helanius Ward and Millot. I think might have been maybe one of the best Kings lines of playing here lately, and they did sign him to a two-year extension 875,000, and it's at the NHL level, so um that it's not a two-way contract. Also, I'm sure y'all already know this. Uh, the game between the Los Angeles Kings and the Columbus Boot Jackets was postponed to the severe winter weather, which really affected my. You know, I work for a company that does cancer testing, which we get stuff from all over the country, and it really put a damper on getting the samples to our labs. Um these severe winter storms just don't cancel sports things, something serious as somebody, you know, cancer test that might help save them their life, uh got delayed. So, you know, always always be praying when that weather comes around uh for people's safety and so forth, and and that things can transpire quickly if needed, like a testing for cancer. So uh and Drew Dowdy became the first ever king defenseman to reach 700 points. They also recalled Joe Hicketts uh from Ontario Rain. This is when they uh loaned Kenny Connors back to Ontario, and then finally we got Anze Kopotar back in action after a stint on the IR. Now, the spoiler news, Cody talked about the Kings acquire Artemis Panarin, 50% retained for Liam Greentree, a 2026 third round conditional pick, better of LA or Dallas third round pick, upgrades to second if LA wins a playoff round this year. Wow, that's not gonna happen, right? Fans, we know that's not gonna happen.
SPEAKER_00I mean I was gonna say I was gonna wait and say that at the end, but go ahead and finish the rest of the story.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, let's be realistic. Yeah, we've been we've been totally inconsistent this year, totally inconsistent. So, and also a 2028 fourth round conditional pick. If Los Angeles wins two playoff rounds in 2026, and it I don't it there's no other information for that, so we're not gonna do that either. So maybe we get to keep that pick if that doesn't happen. Then our Temi Panarin signed a two-year 11 million AAV contract extension. So it has a full no move clause, and it's and it's in its entirety and is completely buyout proof per puckpedia. Uh 2627, 1 million plus 11 million.
SPEAKER_00So all right, I'll I'll explain. So his first year of the extension, which will be next season, his base salary is gonna be 1 million, and he has a 11 million dollar signing bonus. And then the his the second season also a 1 million dollar base salary and a 9 million uh signing bonus. So they made it so it's buyout proof because if you if you buy out a player, you have to pay them their signing bonuses no matter what. So that's why it's that way. And I think this is uh and a full no move, no move, yeah.
SPEAKER_05A full no move. We'll see what that's gonna happen. He's not playing until after the Olympics. We're we're now in that Olympic break, fans. Um, but also per uh GM Ken Holland is looking to trade Warren Fogle per Elliott Friedman, and I mean after two years in a row of bettering his uh you know goals and assists in a season, he he he doesn't look anything like the player that they signed to a three-year contract. So it's been very much a disappointment, and I gotta tell you, like Taylor Ward, Millot, and even uh Helanius look way better than him on the ice, and I find that sad. I mean, it would have been nice to have the Warren Fogle that played last year playing this year. We don't know what the problem with that was, but it was a problem, so we'll see what happens with that because they're probably not gonna get much for him since the way he's been playing, so it's basically get rid of his salary. Yeah, so we're gonna go on to league news.
SPEAKER_00Well, uh let's how would you now construct this lineup with Panarin in the lineup? I you you and I talk, I know you and I talked about it on the other day, but let's let's hear it on the podcast. And uh Kevin says, Happy Saturday, fellas from sunny southern California. Hey, nice to have you in the state. Yeah, hey Kevin.
SPEAKER_05Anyways, you know, I what I think I would do, I mean Panarin is a game changer, and I think for one, I think I'd put him on a line where you have uh Kuzmenko on the Russian the Russian connection, yeah. Those two guys, and who do we need to get kickstarted right now?
SPEAKER_00Everyone?
SPEAKER_05Oh no, specifically a player that really needs to get going.
SPEAKER_01QB.
SPEAKER_05I would probably put I that's how I would start it. Uh that and get them going.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05I mean, who goes out in overtime? QB. He goes out, he's the he's a center that goes out on the overtime, start overtime. Um and he plays way better there than he does five on five, I think. Um, but that's what I would probably do. I mean, you also could put him with uh Kempe and Kopitar. Yeah, that would be a hell of a line. But I think Kuzmeko, I mean, both Artemy and and uh Andre are great passers, uh but you know, Panarin's a scorer. If we need to get QB to be a scorer, I think that's where I'd start.
Line Combos, Trade Ideas, And Fit
SPEAKER_00So California Ducks, I'm all over this Midwest win lately. I'm waiting, I'm waiting for it to go back to winter weather. Um I uh now I have a I have a a trait that might intrigue us both okay. All right, would you do strong for Fogel straight up?
SPEAKER_05Yes, okay.
SPEAKER_00Because Fogel is defensively sound, right?
SPEAKER_05He's a very good defensive player, yeah.
SPEAKER_00But we need oh California sucks, not ducks.
SPEAKER_05Um well Adam's making up for mom. Yeah, um yeah, I we need another center in in the in the mist, obviously, with injuries and so forth. I mean, I don't think they're gonna I mean Kopitar is gonna be there, Helanius is gonna be there. Um, I know they've been putting La Ferrier there, but I think they prefer him on a on the wing. Although he's I I'm not upset with the way he's played, yeah. And QB's there, but you had Strome, you could it gives you more options, yeah. So I I would do that trade, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Would you? Yeah, I I would do it because I know Fogle's a a good defensive player, and yeah, you got enough. You you got enough offense, you guys need to play better defense, and uh it just seems like Strome is just I don't know, he's just not on the coach's good side right now. So, like they even they have a a rookie defenseman playing forward than hit he's been playing forward, like Ian Moore, he's been playing more forward than Strome has. So that's what I'm just saying. Like, if we got someone like Fogle that can help us defensively, and then you guys need center help, and Strom's a center, so I was like, Well, maybe we can make it work.
SPEAKER_05I I um I don't I would think it might better both teams, yeah. So now here's you hey Adam, make a comment. What do you think?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, um, next up. If I was the Ducks, I would have done this Panarin trade in a heartbeat. Um, because you know how many times I heard, oh, it's gonna be if the ducks get him, it's gonna be Roger McQueen and two first round picks. And I'm like, I feel like that's too much for a 34-year-old uh player on an expiring deal. Now, if like Panarin was like 29 and stuff like that, okay, get do it, you know. But I don't know, Panera, like I said, Panarin's still a very top-notch winger in the league. I'm not saying that, but it was just the age that scared me. And it what's also scared me was the whole like I there was the rumors like he wants 50 million no matter what, like you could break it up between four, five, or six years, and I was like, Oh no, I don't feel comfortable with that. Like, because like I said, the ducks have Carlson, Cutter, Minty, Zelger all gonna be RFAs this summer, and they we need to sign them to deals. I'm like, I don't feel comfortable doing that, but with this trade package that the kings sent out, was I mean I mean, I would have been okay with if we'd done like Solberg and a second round pick and a conditional like third or fourth round pick, and I think we could have made that trade work, and but I know what happened was because Panarin pretty much got to chose where he went. He it was pretty much a free, it was pretty much July 1st for Panarin. He got to choose where he wanted to go, and there was once he decided it kind of really handcuffed New York on getting a good package, but I mean they got Liam Green Tree, you know, as part of the trade. Like I know those your guys' top prospect.
SPEAKER_05Well, you know, the funny thing is is seen a lot of posts on it saying we gave away our future center, he's a winger, yeah. You know, he's a winger, and I mean, I'm not happy he's gone, but I mean, him and the couple conditional later round picks, not a first or a second. I go, I think that's a good trade. Um, I would not have honestly McQueen and two first, no way. That's too much. I wouldn't agree on that either. Um, because you know, McQueen, I mean, if it wasn't for that back injury, he would have been up in the top five. Yeah, and not to mention, you know, he's a big boy who can play, and he's looking and he's looked good very good in college so far. Yeah, um, but you know, I I don't think the king's overpaid for him at all. I think I think I thought it was uh a good trade, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, here's Adam. Comment about which part you're talking about the Strome. Would you do Strome for Warren for Ryan Strome for Warren Fogle straight up? Um, and uh enjoy breakfast, have a mimosa for me. Sounds good, actually. I don't know why. Yeah, I'm just drinking black coffee right now. Um, and then Kevin says, um, I was expecting a first plus more or La Ferriere plus Green Tree from Panarin and a three for three to four year extension. Maybe I shouldn't have doubted Holland. And he also said Green Tree most likely feels like he will eventually be a solid uh or good middle six guy. I feel like we got the better end of the deal by a lot. I think Green Tree is gonna be, yeah, I would say middle six.
League Moves, Fines, And Injuries
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I would I would agree. I mean, we definitely saw this season because he played with uh the guy from Washington last year. And I mean, they were like almost the same exact stats, pretty close. They both had think at 119 points for their team, and their team went far in the playoffs. Team isn't as good. His stats are way down, you know, which tells me he needs talent around him. Yeah, you know, he he's not like Celebrini or Bedard or any uh you know, anybody like that. Look at what Leo Carlson's done this year. I mean, he's got talent around him, but it's all really young talent. And I green tree is or even Seneca. I mean, I I've been shocked by how well he's played. He's he's totally impressed me.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So Adam says, Yes, I'll take the overtator byfield to get rid of Strome. Over T so he would take Fogel. Yeah. Um, but like I said, I I thought it was a great move for the Kings. Didn't give him up much, and what scared me the most for the Ducks end was the extension. Because, like I said, I knew I heard he wanted like a long-term deal. He wanted to play till he was like 40-41. That scared me a little bit, especially what he wanted, you know, as for money-wise. So I was like, uh, I don't know, but for the kings to trade what they traded and then only sign in for two years. I would have honestly, if I was, I wish the ducks would have made this move. So think about it. How old's Ovi?
SPEAKER_05Ovi is 41. Yeah, and still pretty much a presence, right? Yeah, you know, who's the same Panarin can't be that same player? Let's see. Oveshkin, you know.
SPEAKER_00Oh, he's 40. Yeah, but okay, but here's the thing. Oveshkin's known for one thing, and he's very good at that one thing. Panarin, I don't know, like I feel he's a playmaker. Playmakers tend to have a harder time later on. Oveshkin just sits in his office and waits for a slap shot.
SPEAKER_05He's he's playing on a team that's going nowhere, and he still is scoring, so um we'll see what happens with him. Yeah, I that's why he got two years and not more. And he's he and he's betting on himself. That's what he's doing. And you gotta love a guy who's betting on himself. Hey, I I know I think I can go past two years, but I'll take two years right now and I'll prove it to you. Yeah, and then you know, then he then he what two years, he's free to go wherever he wants, yeah.
SPEAKER_00But yeah, like the yeah, the reason why this all happens because he wanted to go to LA, that was it, and I think it's a great move.
SPEAKER_05Somebody wanted to go to LA because it seems like nobody wants to go to LA.
SPEAKER_00So that's what a lot of people were saying. I believe it was Jeff Merrick was saying that he's like this. He wanted to go to LA. It shows that people do want to come here, and I believe Jesse Cohen also said it on his all all the Kings Men podcast, and maybe this will help bring in more star power uh later on.
SPEAKER_05Well, we still have a trade deadline to go through, so we don't know if either one of our teams are are done making moves to try to better themselves in the playoffs.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so all right, ready for league news? I am all right. Um, the NHL has fined William Neelander five thousand dollars, the maximum allowed by the CBA, for flipping off the camera. That's right, he flipped off the live television camera when he was up in the press box. Oh boy, yeah. We're getting a little spice in the NHL, are we? I kind of honestly I I kind of like the the vibe of William Neelander. Well, it it wasn't like in a mean way, it was more of in a joking way.
SPEAKER_05You know, when it comes to what he was he make like almost 11 million, yeah. Five thousand dollars is like a nickel, yeah. So that's not probably gonna stop him from doing it again, yeah. Five thousand dollar fine. So, anyways, um the Rangers are trading defenseman Carson Susie to the Islanders for a 2026 third-round pick. So we're starting to see little moves around the NHL.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, there's more to come. And then also the Islanders receive Andre Pallat, a 2026 third-round pick, and a 2027 sixth round pick. And the Devils receive Maxim uh Siplikov. Um, I yeah, I I should have waited, I should have had you read that name. I think I would have gotten that one. I think I knew that name. So um this this like these last two trades are weird, both in division trades, and uh Islanders are I mean stacking up. I mean, I think it's great moves by the islanders because um, you know, they got Susi and Piladas some you know, deaf help, got some picks. Uh an Maximum Siplikov, I hear is he's been struggling this year, and they were saying there's a chance that he could just you know mutually they could, you know, the devils and him can mutually terminate the contract, and he'll probably go back to the the KHL in Russia. Um, but for the Devils, it's good because they got rid of Polot's six million dollars a year. So, and that's for this year and next year, yeah. So, and then uh you want to take the next one?
SPEAKER_05Yes, team Sweden has named forward Marcus Johansson and defenseman hap Hampus Lindholm to their Olympic roster uh as injury replacements for the ducks, Leo Carlson and Jonas Brodeen. Yeah, so and I kind of figured with the injury that uh Carlson had that he wasn't gonna get to play in the Olympics, but you know, he's pretty young still, he got a lot of years to play, yeah. And I gotta tell you what he's a really fun player to watch.
SPEAKER_00He really is, so yeah, and I I'm okay with this move. I would I would have loved to see him in the Olympics because I think Sweden is stronger with him too. But I as a ducks fan, I want him healthy. Like if the ducks were in last place and everything, I'd be like, go go the Olympics, play for your country, represent, what try to win a gold medal. But with the ducks playing you know uh this well this season, and you know, they're in a playoff spot right now. I'd rather him be healthy and make help us make that playoff push for the rest of the year. Well, uh, big Glenn in the chat says, Sup, guys. Hey Glenn, how you doing? Happy Saturday. Um, but yeah, like is he ready to play? No, there so his watch his timeline was three to five weeks. I think we're at three weeks right now.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I I wouldn't even take that chance.
Olympic Roster Shifts And Schedule
SPEAKER_00Uh and I'm okay with it. So yeah, um, and then some more injury news. Uh Canucks goalie Thatcher Demko will undergo hip surgery and will miss the remainder of the 2025-2026 season.
SPEAKER_05You know, uh, he he's had nothing but injury problems here for the last few years, and they just signed him to a big uh three-year, eight million dollars a year contract for someone that can only play 10 games a year. Yeah, it's it hasn't looked like a good move so far, but of course, we can see the Canucks are still struggling. Yeah, so uh the Avalanche have signed Sam Bolinsky to a four-year 4.75 million AAV extension.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, good good move by them. Um, Pittsburgh Penguins forward Bryant Rust has been suspended for three games without pay for a legal check to the head to Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Besser. And I can tell you I saw the replay, it was a nasty hit.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, oh the Dallas Stars will host the Vegas Golden Knights in 2027 Stadium series on February 20th at ATT Stadium in Arlington.
SPEAKER_00Yep, uh in Jerry's world. So I honestly I feel like this can be a great matchup.
SPEAKER_05Although two tough teams, that's for sure. That is a really good matchup.
SPEAKER_00I guess I could delete this one. Um, Patrick Kane is the highest scoring US-born scorer ever with 1,375 points passing Mike Madano. There's one more American he needs to pass, but this is just US born player.
SPEAKER_05Okay, and let's see. The Red Wings have signed pending UFA defenseman Ben Shot to a three-year 3.85 million AAV contract extension.
SPEAKER_00All right, and then we had probably the best outdoor game ever in NHL history. We had the Bruins lightning game, we had the fastest goal in outdoor history with 11 seconds. We had a goalie fight. Um, Bruins thought they won a game, but there was a penalty called instead. Uh Swayman uh had a great break with Save on Kuturoff. Gensel had a shootout snipe, and the first four-goal comeback in Tampa Bay Lightning history. Yeah, that's right. At one point, the Bruins were up five to one, and the Tampa Bay came back and won this game.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah, that was uh that was pretty crazy.
SPEAKER_00This was probably the best outdoor game we're ever gonna see.
SPEAKER_05Well, you know, a lot of history left in this the game of hockey.
SPEAKER_00So well, at least that we're gonna see. But like I said, what Vegas be maybe you never know.
SPEAKER_05You have quite a few more years. That's true. Other news Barry Trotz will be stepping down as the GM of the Predators. He will announce the resignation today, which I'm sure he probably already announced that, right? Yeah, um, but he will be staying in the position until the role is filled. Interesting.
SPEAKER_00So he he'll be the GM for the trade deadline and everything. They're hope, they're saying they're hoping to find a new GM before the draft. Uh, can we sign Madano? Can we sign Madano to get rid of Strobe? I mean, I'd how old is Madano? How long has he been retired for?
SPEAKER_01Um, but yeah, yes, Adam. Yes, you can do that.
SPEAKER_05Go right ahead.
SPEAKER_01Do it.
SPEAKER_00Um, so like they already hired an agency to help with the hiring process. They don't know how they're gonna do it. Are they gonna hire um uh president of hockey operations and a general manager? Hire one, and then that person will hire the GM. I guess that we don't know. Um, I've heard a lot of interesting names in the in the hat. They're saying you know, Brendan Shanahan and Rob Blake like work together.
SPEAKER_05Interesting.
SPEAKER_00Um, there's um they're also saying a lot of people that you know live in the Nashville area, um former players and that are now working in the NHL, like George Paros and Anaheim Duck legend Ryan Geslav. So those are some names I've heard. I mean, there's I know there's a bunch of other you know, assistant GMs. I I heard Martin Madden was another one. Um so I said it should be should be interesting what um Nashville's going to do with this, especially like where they're at. Like, are they gonna sell? Are they gonna stay? Are they gonna buy? Because I know they're not that far from a playoff spot. So um, the next bit of news is the NHL has suspended uh Penguins defenseman Caleb Jones for 20 games without pay for violating the NHL and NHLPA performance enhancing some substance program.
Florida Feuds And Outdoor Chaos
SPEAKER_05Oh, this is uh crazy news now. Top 2026 NHL draft prospect Gavin McKenna has been charged with felony aggravated assault, mean misdemeanor, simple assault, and two summary offenses following an altercation at a state college. Yeah, he he faces 20 years on the felony charge alone if found guilty per the report. Now, I've heard a lot of things that something like some guy said something about his mom.
SPEAKER_00Keep keep going to the next one.
SPEAKER_05Oh, prosecute prosecutors have dropped the felony aggravated assault charge against McKenna. Prosecutors in Central County have uh say that they will be withdrawing the felony aggravated assault charge against Penn State's uh hockey star Gavin McKenna. And well, that's kind of repeating the same thing, yeah. Um I guess he was he was agitated to hit the guy.
SPEAKER_00Well, yeah, the story is like I said, I don't know if it's true or not, but the rumored story is, and it sounds like it could be true, but like I said, we don't know, is that the guy that Gavin McKenna hit um was causing a scene and called McKenna's mom a whore. And um honestly, I if I was Gavin McKenna, I would have done the exact same thing. I'm not judging here. So I I say free McKenna if that's the if that's the if that if that story is true, free McKenna.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. God help anybody that says anything like that about your mom, huh?
SPEAKER_00I'm still waiting to see those those uh little I'm trying not to I want to say certain words on here, but those two little rats that messed with you at the Ducks Kings game that one time.
SPEAKER_05Oh yeah, we'll never see them again.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, maybe they listen to the podcast. Hey, that's the guy we you know, yeah.
SPEAKER_00I'm I'm watching out for you guys. Um, Devils acquire Nick Bukestad in a trade, and the blues get back Tharmas Bordolo, a conditional 2026 fourth round pick, and it is the latest available fourth round pick in 2026. Yeah, it doesn't say the teams on here, so yeah.
SPEAKER_05So obviously, we all know the Olympics have started, but the trade freeze started at 3 p.m. Eastern Time on February 4th to 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on February 22nd. Teams cannot practice from February 6th to the 16th. Teams can have full practices after 2 p.m. local on February 17th. The Olympic tournament is from February 11th to the 22nd. NHL schedule resumes on February 25th. My understanding is Panarin will practice February 18th with the Kings.
SPEAKER_00Here's Adam. He said it. A little I'm I'm I'm gonna just leave it on the screen. Sorry if you audio listeners. Um let's just say it's it's the the it's a the donkey hole. It's uh uh a H.
SPEAKER_01Figure it out.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, all right. Um and then so uh so Seth Jarvis is going to the Olympics for Team Canada um for Braden Point, uh Tampa Bay, who is out with an injury, and then I'll I'll just say the next one too. Sam Bennett has also been named to Canada's Olympic team, replacing injured Anthony Sorelli.
SPEAKER_05So the Sabres have announced goalie Uku Pekka Lukanen will no longer play in the 2026 Olympics for Finland due to a lower body injury. Boston's Jonas Korpusala will replace Lukanen on the Finnish roster. Yep, you did that on purpose.
SPEAKER_00Which one?
SPEAKER_05That one.
Game Recaps: Kings Stretch
SPEAKER_00Oh, you know how to say their names. Um, and then Jonathan uh Huberda will miss the remainder of the season to undergo hip surgery. And then the last one, I got some funny facts for you guys. So they call it the Battle of Florida. I'm calling it the ultimate fighting or Florida flighting champions. So they in the six games Florida and Tampa have played, including preseason. I'm gonna tell you the date of the game, how many penalty minutes were in each game for each team, and how many uh game misconducts each team had. Preseason game number one on October 2nd, 104 penalty minutes for Florida, 82 for Tampa Bay. Florida had five misconducts, Tampa Bay had three. On October 4th, preseason, Florida, 104 penalty minutes, nine misconducts. Tampa Bay, 182 penalty minutes, nine misconducts. Regular season game one on 1115. Florida, 14 penalty minutes, zero misconducts. Tampa Bay, 16 penalty minutes, zero misconducts.
unknownUh-huh.
SPEAKER_00December 15th, game number two. Florida, 19 penalty minutes, zero misconducts. Tampa Bay, 17 minutes, uh uh penalties, zero misconducts. Third game on uh 1227, 49 penalties and minutes, one misconduct for Florida. Tampa Bay 87 penalties in minutes, four misconducts. And this last one we just had on February 5th, Florida 66 penalty minutes, five misconducts, Tampa Bay Lightning 81 minutes and penalties, four misconducts. So in the six games that these teams have played against each other, Florida has 392 penalties or like minutes, 20 misconducts, Tampa Bay 465 penalties in minutes, and also 20 misconducts. I guess they don't like each other, they really don't. That's why I called it the Ultimate Florida Fighting Championship.
SPEAKER_05I think Tampa's winning that battle right now.
SPEAKER_00Yes, I would agree so. Yes. So that's it for news wise. Um, let's go into recaps. All right, I'll let you go. You start okay.
SPEAKER_05So we're going all the way back to January 27th, and we're in Detroit, and you know, a betting man would bet that Detroit and X coach would wax the Kings. I think that's what I predicted. And surprisingly, let's go to the scoring. But who starts the scoring? But the fourth line, Samuel Helenius, gets a second from Milatus fourth at the 10-minute mark of the second period to start the scoring, and that was the last of the scoring in the first or second period. There was none in the first, so we go to the third, that got a little more exciting. Andre Kuzmenko, who obviously has found his uh his chi here, and he's playing so much better than he did early in the season. He got his 11th on the power play from Kempe, his 23rd, and Fiala his 19th at the 646 mark. To put the Kings up two to nothing. Then Alex de Brinkett gets his 28th from Cider is 29th, and Patrick Kane is 23rd, and it's two to one. Kings. Then towards the end, at the 1847 mark with an empty net. X Anaheim duck, Corey Perry gets his 11th, an empty netter from LaFerriere is 12th, and the Kings win three to one. Anybody shocked? I was. Giveaways, of course, we won that one 20 to 15. And takeaways, Detroit won that six to five. The three stars of the game are Alex De Brinkett with a with a goal. Uh number two star Samuel Helenius with a goal. And the number one star Andre Kuzmenka with a game winner. So Kings beat uh Detroit three to one in Detroit. On to your first game, Cody.
SPEAKER_00All right. Our first game was all the way back on January 26th. Wait, that's not right, is it? No, that's not. There it is. Sorry. January 25th, where the Ducks played on the road. Adam says he's always shocked when the Kings win. Um thanks, Adam. Yep. The Ducks are in Calgary. I believe this was the was it the third, yeah, third, the third to last game on the road trip. Um, and we play in Calgary, and this game did not start well at all. The ducks were getting completely outplayed in this game. Um, I guess I'll I'll tell you in the shots department alone. But Jonathan Huberto uh scored got the scoring start in this one, getting his ninth of the year to make it one-nothing, and that was at the 6-17 mark. And less than two minutes later, Hunter uh Brustevich got his first of the year to make it two-nothing. Calgary, and it's two nothing after the first period. And we go into the second period, and it was all Beckett Seneca. Beckett gets his first of the game, his 16th of the year at the 322 mark, Calorne with his 10th assist, and Granlon with with his 13th assist, and that makes it 2-1 Calgary. And then at the 1241 mark, again, Beckett Seneca with his 17th of the year. Same two people with the assist. Granlin 14, Calorn 11. And now we're tied 2-2 going into the third, and then at the 450 mark on the power play, Matt Coronado uh takes the lead for Calgary to make it 3-2, and then Chris Kreider comes in with a snipe and gets his 17th of the year, uh, ties it up 3-3. Uh, Palin gets his 14th assist, and Cutter's 23rd assist of the year. So we're tied 3-3, and then we go into overtime. And who do you think is the overtime winner? The man that gets his first career hat trick, Seneca Beckett Seneca with his 18th of the year, Lacomb's 27th assist, and what a great shot this was. And you should have heard uh Kreider's comments after the game saying, I don't think I've ever been looked off by a 19-year-old before. Because it was a I think I want to say it was a two-on-one against the goalie, and it cried around on the other side. So, but hey, it went in, it's the game winner. Beckett Seneca with the hat trick. Uh, here are the stats. Like I said, shots on goal 35 to 21. Not good. Faceoffs 58 to 42 in favor of Calgary. Power plays ducks were 0 for 2. Calgary was 1 for 1. Uh we got out hit 28 to 25. Block shots 18 to 16 for calc in favor of Calgary. Giveaways 20 to 17 Calgary, and each team had three uh takeaways. Uh, ducks win the first. Uh, that was the first game we've played Calgary all year. Um, so we have the season series right now. Where are the shots? I know they have it on here somewhere. Guess not. Um, but your three stars of the game. You have uh Brustevich as the number three star for Calgary with the one goal, Coronado with the second star with the one goal, one assist, and Bucket himself is the number one star with the Hattie. So that is our first game of the recap.
SPEAKER_05All right, then the Kings go to Buffalo and the really hot Buffalo Sabres. Yeah, they've been playing. I mean, they've been talented for quite a few years, it just hasn't transpired into wins, but now all of a sudden they're doing it. So let's go to the scoring in the first period. You know, rumored maybe possibly on the trading block, Alex Tuck gets his 20th on the power play from McCloyd is 25th, and Quinn is 20th at the 714 mark of the first period. Then Matias Samuelson got his ninth from Dalene is 32nd, and Quinn is 21st at the 1117 mark to put Buffalo up after one period, two to nothing. And we go to the second period. Alex Tuck gets his 21st from Byram is 16th, and Benson is 19th at the 629 mark, and Buffalo is up three to nothing. Well, the Kings do finally get on the board. Adrian Kempe gets his 18th on the power play from Fiala, his 20th, and Clark is 20th at the 747 mark. And after two periods, Buffalo is winning three to one. It was a hard fought third period, but you know, the Kings had to pull the goalie, and at the with one minute left in the game, Alex Tuck gets the hat trick, his 22nd from Quinn is 22nd, and Mac Lloyd is uh 26th assist. And the final is Buffalo 4. Kings one. Let's go to the stats. Kings outshot them 38-32. Again, they lost the face-off circle 62.5 percent to 37.5 percent. Kings were 50 on the power play, one for two, and the sabres were 33.3, one for three. The hits. This is where I don't get how they score four goals. 30 for the Kings, nine for Buffalo. Block shots, Buffalo won that one 13-11. Giveaways, they won that. We gave away 20. They only gave away 16, and they took the takeaway six to five. Three stars in the game. You won't see a king in the bunch. Uh Quinn had three assists as the third star. Uh, Alex Lyon, uh, the goalie, uh, with a goals against average of one and a 974 save percent was the second star. And Alex Tuck with the hat trick with three goals, the number one star. Now to your next game, Cody.
Game Recaps: Ducks Stretch
SPEAKER_00All right, so now we go to January 26th, where we we're on a back end of a back-to-back against the dreaded Edmonton Oilers. Don't let the score um say this game was different. Um, so the ducks lose this one 7-4, but like I said, let me get to the scoring. Mikhail Granland gets a scoring start in this one on the power play, his 10th of the year. Um, Chris Kreider gets his 11th assist and Cutter's 24th assist. That was at the 324 mark. So the ducks are up one-nothing at early up, and then Zach Hyman at 17-14 in the first period on the power play, ties it up. So now we're tied 1-1 after one. Second period, Alex Calor gets on the board, his sixth of the year assist from Paling, his 15th, and Truba his 14th assist, and that was 55 seconds into the second. And then we had the dreaded four minutes of this game that ruined this game for us. So, because here's the four minutes of goal, uh, four minutes for the four goals, all by defensemen. Spencer Stasney at the 436 mark gets his second of the year and make ties it up 2-2. Matias Eckholm, his fourth of the year, 628, 3-2 Edmonton. Darnell Nurse, his seventh of the year, 734. And then to top it off, uh, Matthias Eckholm again, his fifth of the year at 8.25. So less than four minutes, we give up four goals. And this and that's the that four minutes cost us the game. So we went from being up 2-1 to being down 5-2. But then at the 1341 mark, Mikel Granlin again gets his 11th uh goal the year on the power play. Becca Seneca got the assist, his 24th assist to make it 5-3 Edmonton. And then we go into the third period, and who do you know scores again? Mikhail Granlon to complete the hat-trick, his third goal of the game, his also his third power play goal. Becca Seneca gets another assist, his 25th of the year. Lacomb his 28th assist of the year. This was at the 1338 mark of the third period, and that made it five for Edmonton. So, like I said, it was a great game until the 18-12 mark, where Connor McDavig scores his 33rd goal on the empty netter to make it six for Edmonton, and then the Ducks pull the goalie again, and Matthias Holcomb also gets the power, uh gets an empty netter to complete his hat-trick. And I believe Edmonton was the first team to have two different defenseman hat tricks in back-to-back games. Evan Bouchard had one the night before, and Alcom had it in this game. So that's why how the Ducks end up losing seven to four. So I would really say five-four. But like I said, that four minutes in the second period is what really cost us. Like, I don't know what happened. The ducks were playing great until those four minutes. Um, ducks outshot them 41 to 32. We also won the face-offs 52 to 48. Power play. We were three for four on the power play, thanks to granny. Um, and um Edmonton was one for three. Um, we outhit them 25 to 13. We had 15 block shots, they had 10. We had 14 giveaways to their 19, and each team had six takeaways. And that was the first game of the season series between Edmonton and Anaheim. Um, and we only have two more games against each team. So, or I mean, sorry, two games against this uh Edmonton. One on the February 25th when we come back from the Olympic break, and then March 28th. Three stars of the game. I already know two of the three. Yeah, Hyman is the number three star with the one goal, one assist for two points. Uh Granlon was the number two star with his hat trick, and of course, uh Matias at home with his hat trick is the number one star. So so far, the ducks are one for one in the since our little break.
SPEAKER_05On to my next game, Kings in Philadelphia. Let's go to the scoring. First period at the 310 mark. Adrian Kempe with his 19th from La Ferriera is 13th, and Perry is 16th. Kings are up one to nothing. Shock. And Adam, you're gonna get shocked in this game, too. Four minutes later, Adrian Kempe gets his 20th again from Corey Perry is 17th, and the Kings are up after the first period two to nothing against Philadelphia. But X Mighty Duck Trevor Ziegris on the power play gets his 20th goal of the season from Brink his 10th, and Keneckney his 30th, and it's now 2-1 Kings, and that's how it stays through the second period. We go to the third period, and then the only scoring was Travis Connectney with his 22nd, from Rister Linan is fourth, and Grubecken is eighth, and we go to overtime, and in overtime, what a surprise! It's Quentin Byfield getting his 10th from Kempi is 24th, and Dowdy is 11th at the 248 mark. And the Kings in overtime beat Philadelphia 3-2. Let's go to the three stars, or let's go to the stats first, see how that all went. Pretty even on the shots. I'd say definitely even 21 apiece. Again, they lose face-off 52.9 to 47.1. The Kings were 0 for 2 on the power play, and Philadelphia was 1 for 2. The hits were 29 Philly, 25 for the Kings. A block shot, 16 Philly, 11 Kings. Giveaways. This is where Philly lost at 18. Kings only had seven takeaways. Philly took that four to two. Three stars of the game. Trevor Ziegris, the third star with a goal. Second star was Darcy Kemper. His uh goals against average is 1.91%, and then his save percentage 905. And with two goals and an assist, obviously the number one star was Adrian Kempe. On to your next game, Cody.
SPEAKER_00All right, this next game. This one hurt out of all of them. So the Ducks finished the five-game road trip in Vancouver. Vancouver is the worst team in the league right now. Like I said, this one hurt. There was zero scoring in the first two periods. And the Canucks even had their goalie. Um his starting goalie had to come out for like the first like two minutes of the second period. They said it was an either equipment thing or like a concussion spotter thing. Um, but he was able to come back in. Um, but like I said, no scoring until the third period where Drew O'Connor got the scoring started his 13th of the year from assists from Jake Dubrusk. It was 1-0 Vancouver. And then at the 9 32 mark, shorthanded on the empty netter, Teddy Blueger iced the game for Vancouver. So the ducks get shut out against the team's worst team. Sorry, the league's worst team, Vancouver Canucks. They didn't have Besser, they they don't have Quinn Hughes anymore, and it's their third their what technically their third string goalie because they have Dempo, they have Lankan in. So we had it. We we got shut out by uh what's his name? Tapasillo Tolapio. Like I said, he's played, we've played this goalie twice now, and he I don't know, he just has the ducks number for some reason. Um, but here uh here are the stats. Uh the ducks outshot them 33 to 26, but we lost in the face-offs. Uh 52 to 48. Uh, both teams were 0 for 3 on the power play. Um, ducks had 21 hits, Vancouver had 10. Both teams had 13 block away, uh block shots. Uh, ducks had one more giveaway than Vancouver 12-11, and ducks had three takeaways to Vancouver's one. And so far, we're 0 for 2 against the worst team in the league. We've lost 5-4 and 2-0. So hopefully these next two games are in the ducks' favor against them because these are games ducks have to win, and because of this loss, that's why we're in a wild card spot right now. If we win this game, we're in the third uh spot in the Pacific. So, like I said, these are games we have to win. Um, three stars of the game. Uh, you had Lucas Tolstall is the number three star with giving up the lone. Uh he gave up, he only gave up one goal um with a 960 save percentage. Uh Drew O'Connor had the game winner, he's the number two star, and then Tolapio is the number one with the shutout. Actually, technically, it's not a shutout because I guess I didn't know this, but to get the official shutout, you have to be you play the full 60 minutes, or if if you come off the ice, it's only for like the delay penalty thing. But since he was replaced for a little bit, so but like I said, he just seems to have the ducks number, so um, it's a game I really did not want to talk about, and you can tell it was a very short recap. So we'll go on to your next game.
SPEAKER_05Well, the Kings go to Carolina to play the Hurricanes, and let's go to the scoring to start off. In the first period, uh Jordan Stahl on the power play gets his 13th from Svechkinov is 27th, and Gotzafield is 28th. 1-0 Calgary. Second period, no scoring. In the third period, Nick Nikishan gets his seventh unassisted at the 1257 mark, and now Carolina's up 2-0. Samuel Helanius gets his third from Mullot his fifth, and Doomlin his 11th, and now it's 2-1. Calgary, and then Quentin Byfield scoring in the second game, and a row gets his 11th from Adrian Kempe, and it's tied to 2. So we go into overtime. But the Kings lose the game on Sebastian Aho's 19th from Jarvis is 18th, and Gapasier's his third uh 29th, 3 to 2 at the 125 mark, so it didn't take too long. Let's go to the stats. The Kings were outshot 34 to 13. That's pathetic. They did actually were even in the face-offs 50. Uh 0 for 2 on the power play for the Kings, and uh Carolina was 1 for 4. Kings out hit them 25-11. Kings had 25 block shots to 12, and on giveaways, they had 12. Carolina had 13. Takeaways, Kings 5, Carolina 6. Let's go to the three stars of the game. You won't see a king in the bunch. Uh, Nikishan was the third star with a goal. Stahl was the second star with a goal, and Aho with the game winner in overtime is the number one star. Now on to your next game, Cody.
Standings And Playoff Picture
SPEAKER_00All right. So the ducks come back home after that five game road trip, and we host the Vegas. I guess mom's not here, so I could probably say it. No, I'm just kidding. Um, the Vegas Golden Knights, and we got This is the game we actually first got um Troy Terry back. Actually, I forgot to mention so Troy Terry flew up to Vancouver, practiced, and then didn't play. And then Ducks come back home. And I think it was just to get Terry some more practice time, but I would have been pretty annoyed if uh I had to fly all the way up to Vancouver and not play. So um, and we probably could have used him that game, but in the first period, um the Anahive Ducks get the scoring started with Chris Kreider getting his 18th of the year. Uh Palin gets his 16th assist, and Minti gets his ninth, and that's at the 1321 mark, and it that was on a deflected shot, and it's one-nothing after one, and then we move to the second period. Um we're gonna be on hat-trick watch now. Chris Kreider with his 19th of the year, his second of the game, and that was on a tip in. Um, Truba with his 15th assist and Troy Terry's 30th assist. It's 2-0 Anaheim, and that was at the 110 mark in the second period, and then on the power play, Cutter Gottier gets his 20. Oops, I just closed everything out, almost closed everything out on my computer. Give me a second to pull it up. There we go. Uh Cutter Goldie gets his 24th of the year on the power play to make it 3-0 Anaheim and Lacomb with this 29th assist and Beckett Seneca's 26th assist, and that's at the 432 mark in the second period to make it 3-0 Anaheim. And then Mitch Marner um on a weird play where he just had a wide open net. I I I can't remember exactly what happened, but let's just say it was an unlucky bounce. Went to right to Mitch Marner. Dostal was on the other side of the net, so Dostal had no chance. So Mitch Marner gets his 15th of the year to make it 3-1 Anaheim, and that was at the 947 mark. We move to the third period, and we start letting Vegas back into the game. Anaheim at the 1040 mark, and then um Vegas pulls their goalie pretty early. Um, at the 1853 mark, Ryan Palin gets uh the iced goal uh to ice it help ice the game actually on the empty netter. Troy Terry get his 31st assist and Truba's 16th assist. That was Paline's fifth goal of the year, and that made it 4-2 Anaheim on the empty netter. And then with like five seconds left, Thomas Hurdle scores for Vegas to make it 4-3 Anaheim. Um, so the Ducks sweep the Vegas Golden Knights this year, all games ending 4-3. So we'll move on to the stats. Uh, ducks were out shot this game, 31 to 23. We did win the face-offs, 52 to 48. It seems like the ducks have it's been closer in the face-off percentage, so that's a good thing. So um power plays. The ducks had the one power play goal. Uh, they were one for two, Vegas was oh for two. We had 28 hits, to Vegas is 17. Ducks had 16 block shots, to Vegas is 10. Uh, 20 giveaways for Vegas, 15 for the Ducks, six takeaways for the Ducks, three for the Knights. Like I said, we sweeped the season series against the Vegas Golden Knights, all games ending four to three. And your three stars of the game. Um, you had Ryan Paling with the one goal, one assist for two points as your number three star. Lukash Dostall was the number two star with a 903 save percentage and the three goals against, and then Chris Kreider was your number one with the two goals. So that that luckily we end that little two-game losing streak we had, and we start uh winning games again. So, like especially against a division opponent. Um, so that's it for this Vegas game.
SPEAKER_05All right, uh now we're back home and we're playing the Kraken, and uh we just haven't necessarily played very well against the Kraken. Uh so far I think we're 0-2 going into this game, but we do start the first period and get the first goal on the power play. Kuzmenko is 12th from Clark, his 21st, and Fiala his 21st, and it's 1-0 Kings. Then Shane Wright gets his 10th from Winterton, his 12th, and it's 1-1. Then Adam Larson gets his fifth from Stevenson, his 22nd, and Goudreau is 12th, and it's now 2-1 Seattle, and then Vince Dunn gets his eighth on the power play from McCann is 15th, and Stevenson is 23rd, and Seattle after one period's up three to one. In the second period, Andre Kozmenko again on the power play gets his 13th from Kempe is 26th, and Fiala is 22nd, and it's 3-2 Seattle. Then Shane Wright in the third period gets his 11th on the power play from Goodreau is 13th, and Kako is 15th, and Seattle wins the game 4-2. Let's go to the stats. Kings out shoot Seattle 27-23, and they finally win the face-offs 56.9 to 43.1. Seattle was two for six on the power play for 33.3 percent. The Kings were two for four for 50 percent. The hits 18 to 17 Kings, block shots 17-15 Seattle giveaways. Uh Seattle had 14 Kings 12 and takeaways, Seattle 5, Kings 4, three stars of the game. Uh third star is Goudreau with two assists. Second star is Kuzmenko with two goals, and the first star is Shane Wright with two goals. And we're 0 for 3 against the Krakens so far this year.
SPEAKER_00Let's just say my predictions of uh the Seattle being the last place team is really hurting.
SPEAKER_05Well, I don't think anybody expected them to do what they're doing now, to be honest with you. I mean, I think they've had talent enough to be good, but they just haven't played it. So that's what go ahead.
SPEAKER_00No, no, you finish. And I'm done. Okay. Now say speaking of Kraken, the Ducks play the Kraken in my next game. This is the Ducks' last game of uh before the Olympic break. Um, and the ducks break the Kraken's four-game winning streak. Um, the ducks win this one four to two, and here are the goals. So there was nothing in the first period, but in the second period, Cutter Goody gets the scoring started with his 25th of the year. Jackson Lacomb, his 30th assist of the year, Granland's 15th assist, and that was at the 401 mark. And then Jacob Truba on a slap shot from the blue line, uh, puts it past, uh I believe it was Grubauer. Um, that's his ninth of the year. Harkins gets his first assist. I thought Harkins would have had more assists by now. Um, but uh Palin gets his 17th assist, and that was at the 1927 mark in the second period. So the decks are up 2-0 after two. And we're going to the third period. Alex Klorn gets the scoring uh with his seventh of the year to make it 3-0. Anaheim, Jackson Lacomb's 31st assist of the year, and more seventh assist, and that was 24 seconds into the third period. And then Ross, the boss Johnston, gets his third of the year, Janssen Harkin's second assist, and Tim Washi's first assist. Um, one, two, three right there. Um, honestly, this goal was because of Harkins, pretty much. He um the puck was behind the net. Grubauer went to come play it, and I think he just missed the puck or whatever. Harkins goes in, puts in front of the net, and Ross Johnson is there to put it away. Like I said, that goal happens because of Harkins. And Harkins isn't like I would say a top-tier player, but I like him on our fourth line. He gets into the dirt, dirty areas, he goes balls to the wall every game, and I I notice it, so I appreciate players like Harkins. Johnson, like I said, Johnston's been playing like how Harkins was last year. So I pre I like I said, that fourth line I'm starting to like a lot more and more. So the ducks are at 4-0, and this is at the 1354 mark, and then after this, it was all Seattle. Like, it's like the Ducks couldn't get into the offensive zone after this. Um, Jordan Everly gets a scoring, finally breaks the shootout because I blame the TNT commentators for saying, Oh, the ducks haven't had a shootout since blah blah blah blah blah. And I'm like, oh well, I guess Seattle's scoring now. God, I hate when commentators do this. I really it bugs the crap out of me. Why don't say anything? Are you gonna say, Oh, uh, this pitcher is is uh has a uh what's a perfect game going or a no-hitter, like you don't say these things, and yet I don't know why in hockey I hear it so much. Oh, Dostal's pitching a shoutout right now. Jeez, well, there it goes. Sure enough, like a minute or two later, gone. So um, but yeah, Jordan Everley gets his 20th of the year, it makes it 4-1 Anaheim, and then Ty Cartier gets his third of the year, makes it 4-2 um Anaheim, and that was at the 1729 mark, and then the ducks hold them off after that. But it was literally all Seattle after um that ducks' fourth goal. So the ducks uh get the second win in a row against two divisional opponents, which we desperately needed, and we did not lose the season series against Seattle. We we lost the first two three to one, and then we won the last two games four to two. So um the stats of the game, um ducks outshot them 31 to 28. Uh, ducks did lose the face-off battle 40. I'm sorry, 57 to 43. Um, Seattle had no power play chances. Uh, ducks were 0 for 3. Um hits 16 in faith uh to 12 in favor of Anaheim, 20 block shots for Seattle, 14 for the Anaheim, 18 giveaways for the Ducks, 12 for Seattle, uh, six takeaways for the Seattle, and five for Anaheim. And you're at three stars of the game. Let me scroll all the way back up. Uh Jansen Harkins with the two assist as your number three star. Uh, then Lacombe with the two assist as the number two star, and then Jacob Truba with the one uh slap shot goal is your number one star. So the ducks before the Olympic break get two wins in a row, much needed wins. Of course, it should have been three wins in a row. They should have beat Vancouver, but yeah. Um, so that like I said, and we'll we'll talk about standings and stuff right after this.
Trade Deadline Cap Math
SPEAKER_05Okay, so um last game before the Olympics, Kings uh after um playing Seattle. Seattle, right? Yeah, they uh had to go to Vegas and play against the Vegas Golden Knights. This game, it was all Vegas to start with. Jack Eichel gets his 21st from Stone is 38th, and Barbashef is 24th at the 822 mark, one-nothing Vegas. Three minutes and 27 seconds later. Mark Stone gets his 21st from Barbashef is 25th, and Eichel is 47th at the 1149 mark, 2-0 Vegas. Then Pavel Doria Dora V gets his 26th from Stone is 39th, and Hurdle is 27th at the 1329 mark, 3-0 Vegas. Then Mitch Marner gets his 16th from Doria, his 18th, um, and his 4-0 Vegas. Then somehow Trevor Moore sneaks one in, his seventh from Armia, his 10th, and finally Kopatar's back with his 16th at the 1503 mark. And believe it or not, that's all the scoring for the whole game in the first period. So let's just go to the stats. They lose the face-off battle 61.8 to 38.2. Vegas was one for two on the power play. The Kings 0 for 5 hits the Kings out hit them 18-17. Uh block shots 21 for Vegas, only 12 for the Kings. Giveaway, Kings had 20, Vegas 18. Takeaways, they each had seven, the three stars of the game. Uh Eichel with a goal and assist was the third star. Uh Aiden Hill was the second star, uh, with giving up uh one goal and a 970 save percentage. And Mark Stone with one goal and two assists for three points is the number one star. We go into the Olympic break with another loss to Vegas. Although we have at least we've uh won a at least one game against Vegas this year. We're one and two right now with um we play Vegas on the 25th. So uh our first I think it's our first game back from the Olympic break. So that's that's all the games.
SPEAKER_00All right. So um where are we at on our uh predictions?
SPEAKER_05So over the last two weeks, Cody went four and one, and he's 29 and 25. I went four and two over the last two weeks, and at least I'm a respectable 27 and 30. Because I think I was like 10 or 12 games under 500 there for a while.
SPEAKER_00Well, what so I'm still over 500?
SPEAKER_05You're over 500.
SPEAKER_00Well, what was my overall record again? 29 and 25. Okay. Wow. All right, so we're gonna go, we're gonna talk about playoff pitcher right now, since we're we don't have any games until February 25th.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_00Uh Tampa Bay is leading the the Atlantic with 78 points in 55 games. Montreal has 72 points in 57 games, and Detroit has 72 points in 58 games. Uh, Carolina leads the Metro with 78 points in 57 games. Uh Pittsburgh has is in second with 70 points, and Islanders are in third with 69 points in 58 games. And your two wildcard teams right now are the Buffalo Sabres with 70 points in 57 games, and the Boston Bruins with 69 points in 57 games. So, right now the teams that are out of the playoff pitcher, Columbus, they're four points behind with 65 points. Uh, so is Washington, but Columbus has also played less games than Buffalo, Boston, and Washington. Um, Ottawa's three uh 63 points, Toronto 63 points, Philly 61, Florida 61, New Jersey 58, and New York Rangers with 50. Um, so right now in the East, uh Bruins, we'd be playing the Tampa Bay Lightning, Buffalo would be playing Carolina, and you got Pittsburgh Penguins versus the Islanders, and then Canadians versus Red Wings, and then we'll move to the West. And the top three teams are in the central right here. Um, Colorado has 83 points in 55 games, Minnesota Wild has 78 and 58 games, Dallas has 77 and 57. Um, and then Vegas leads the Pacific with 68 points with 57 games. Edmonton with 64 points in 58 games, and then the Kraken are in third in the Pacific with 63 points in 56 games, and your wildcard one is the Utah Mammoth with 64 points in 57 games, and Anaheim Ducks 63 points in 56 games because um the Kings had to lose to the Kraken and kick the ducks into the wildcard spot.
SPEAKER_05Way to go, Kings!
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and then the Kings are the next team out with 60 points in 56 games. You got Nashville with 59, sharks with 58, you got Chicago with 53, Winnipeg with 52, Calgary with 52, St. Louis with 49, and the Vancouver Canucks with 42 points. So right now, Ducks will be playing Colorado, Mammoth against Vegas, Minnesota, Dallas, and then Edmonton and Seattle. That's what the playoff pitcher would look like right now. What? No Kings in Edmonton? No, as of right now, no. But things could still change.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, we still have uh uh few months of hockey games to be played. We'll see what happens.
SPEAKER_00Yes, I mean, what was it yeah? Both of our teams have played 56. So what we got 26 games left? Yeah, and um, if I did my see, look at my countdown, and we have as of right now 20 stupid ad. Um, I'll tell you as soon as this ad goes away on on the countdown to the trade deadline, but I'm just trying to figure out like what else is going on, and we can also talk about the Olympics too. Alright, so our first game starts for the Olympics. Sorry, the sorry, trade deadline countdown 27 days and 32 minutes from right now. So, and here are the games, and all games are on Peacock in the United States and CBC Gem in Canada. Um, so at least we're able to watch the games. Slovakia and Finland get the first game at 10:40 a.m. I don't I don't know if that's a certain time, like Eastern Pacific, I don't know. Um, that's the first game, and then Sweden versus Italy at 3 10 p.m. Wednesday, Switzerland and France at 6 10 a.m. and Czechia versus Canada at 10 40 a.m. That should be a game. I was gonna say that's the game I want to watch.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
Episode 100 Plans And Sign-Off
SPEAKER_00Um, and then uh Group C on Thursday, uh Latvia versus USA at 3.10 p.m. And then Germany versus Denmark also at 3.10. Um Friday, Finland versus Sweden, another game to watch 6 10 a.m. Italy versus Slovakia also at 6 10 a.m. Uh also on Friday, Mrs. Chaos says stop fumbling your words. Don't tell me how to live my life. Um, France versus Czechia at 10 40 a.m. Canada and Switzerland. That would be another fun one. To watch that's at 3:10 p.m. Saturday. Um, this will be the last one before we have our podcast next week. Um, we'll do Sweden versus Slovakia at 6:10 a.m., Finland versus Italy at 10:40 a.m., Germany versus Latvia at 6:10 a.m., and USA versus Denmark at 3.10 p.m.
SPEAKER_05So busy uh Olympic schedule there. Yep.
SPEAKER_00So predictions. I want you to what who's who's in the semifinals? I want to know how the playoff bracket works.
SPEAKER_05Well, that's tough to say because I don't know what the playoff bracket how well I think that that plays on how they play in each of their pools.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so I guess we could do more of that later.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. I mean, all right, you know, you the teams that should be there probably USA, Canada, Finland, and Sweden.
SPEAKER_00I I'm predicting there's gonna be an upset somewhere, like Czechia in there. I think yeah, Czechia was the team I have on up.
SPEAKER_04Check is very good.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Oh, also, I forgot to mention. Let's see if I have it right here. So the there was let's see, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven flag bearers for their countries that were hockey players. Leon Dreisidel um is the uh huh? Germany, yeah, for Germany. He is the flagbearer for Germany, uh Nino Niederreiter, flag bearer for Switzerland, David Pasternak for uh the Czech Republic, uh Lettnin for Finland, uh Dogovins for Latvia, uh Tomas Tatar for Slovakia, and Jensen for Denmark. So just some notable notes there. Cool. Yeah. Um see, I don't see any questions in our that people have sent in. Let's see. Double check before we move on. Yep, no, no one's sent any uh messages, so um I ready for episode 100 next week.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I am one. I never I didn't think I was in the game.
SPEAKER_00I didn't think so either.
SPEAKER_05But but uh it's been fun, it's been fun. I've enjoyed it. I have a lot of fun with it. I get to do it with with you, which means the world to me. So and if we've had a lot of interesting people, including uh Captain Chaos and Eric, Eric Rodriguez, and I mean just think of Kevin, a bunch of two Kevins, two Kevins, you know, Dylan, um, yeah, Eddie, Jesse, Kyle, yeah, and and Doug.
SPEAKER_00And Doug. Colby from the Mighty Ducks memes, too.
SPEAKER_05Yep, Colby.
SPEAKER_00I feel like we're missing someone.
SPEAKER_05Well, we have we have maybe some uh exciting ones happening in a few weeks, too.
SPEAKER_00So yes. Um, I'm not I'm not gonna spoil the ones that we're having on ours, um, but we are gonna be on another podcast. I said what March 1st.
SPEAKER_05I think that's what you said, yes.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so I'll I'll keep you guys updated on that. Um, someone asked me and my dad to jump on one of ours. I'm working on a couple of special episodes for us on here, so stay tuned for that. Yeah, I'm just working on sketch scheduling, that's it. So well, I'm I'm I'm excited. Episode 100.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I've like I said, I never thought I'd make it here. I never thought I'd be a podcaster. Yeah, I mean it's I get I guess I'm a podcaster because of you.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you're welcome. Add that to your resume.
SPEAKER_05Well, I wanted you to. You so desired, and yet you couldn't find someone to to partner with you, and I'm certainly glad it was me.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so uh see, don't you uh me dunk um um so you do you know which team has the most cap space right now in hockey? I don't let's see. So right now, Chicago has the most with 38 million, Detroit has 36 million, they can make some moves, and they're pretty good, yeah. And they're good. So expect to see some moves in Detroit. Pittsburgh has 32 million, the ducks also have 32 million, so Pittsburgh, Detroit, Anaheim, be on the lookout for that. I don't see rentals for Anaheim or Pittsburgh, maybe Pittsburgh. Um, LA has 9.56.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, they ate a little bit of that up getting Panarin.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but I honestly like what a trade, what two trades that Holland has made so far. If you think about it, you traded Dano, Green Tree, and a conditional third, which could be a second, or and a what could be a fourth round pick. Um, you traded all that for a second round pick and Panarin half retained. That's not bad. I say that's very good work by Holland, I will say they may not be done. Yeah, they could they may not. Well, I mean, war Warren Fogel's already on the trade block.
SPEAKER_05Uh yeah, I think I see that. I I see the Kings if they do something, they're probably gonna pick up a center. Yeah, I mean they need another center, and then you know, if they really did pick up a really outstanding center, um you could move Byfield back over to wing. I think he was better at the wing right now than center. So because I if if Turkot comes back, I think he's the center. Yeah, he he's he's he's their best, he's their best uh face-off guy. Yeah, yeah, he's he's got a better percentage than even Kopitar. Really? Yeah, wow. Unfortunately, he's been hurt, so we'll see what happens.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but all right. Well, I'm actually surprised we did all that game recaps and everything. We're still around our normal time, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Well, we we didn't have a whole lot of wasted time in that.
SPEAKER_00No, we definitely did not.
SPEAKER_05We we we jumped through all those games pretty quick, so I'm happy for that. And looking uh forward to tonight.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I'm just trying to see if there's any like top. All right, here's all right. I'm gonna tell you, we're gonna do this real quick. Here's the top 2026 unrestricted free agents right now. And you tell me yes or no if you want them on your team, Nick Schmoltz. Uh I'm no Darren Radish.
SPEAKER_05He's pretty good, but he would be a nice addition.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I'm not Alex Sovechkin, but he ain't leaving Washington. That's Alex. That's not realistic. Alex Tuck.
SPEAKER_04I like Alex Tuck. I've always liked Alex Tuck. He I would pick him up at a heartbeat.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, uh, John Carlson's not leaving Washington. Malkin's not leaving Pittsburgh. Charlie Coyle. I like Charlie Coyle too. I think I would skip on Charlie Coyle. Anthony Manta.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, maybe. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I'll be at the ring game tonight. It's the pink in the rink game. Oh, that's cool. All right, and then here's the the top restricted free agents. So I actually I want to check out something. Um, so you got Bedard, Cutter, Ziegris, Dorotheev, Carlson, Fantilly, uh, and Brent Clark. And then the top one, Jason Robertson. That's what I want. That's what I wanted to look up. Teams. I want to look up Dallas.
SPEAKER_05I I hear Dallas is gonna pay him.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so what's the what's what does their cap space look like next year?
SPEAKER_05Well, your cap space is gonna get a lot less.
SPEAKER_00No, uh, it's true.
SPEAKER_05I'm just trying to assume you guys got a lot of restricted free agents you need to sign. Yeah, Clark deserves a raise for sure. Okay, so right right now he needs to be in the first line defense. Who? Clark.
SPEAKER_00Oh, so right now, if the salary cap stays at um what it says it is, because I've heard it could jump up, um, but right now it's saying if it's at 104 million next year, Dallas has 16 million 16.4 million in cap space. So they have space, but I don't know who they need to resign. Let's see. They obviously Robertson's one. Jamie Ben will be a UFA. Um Adam Ernie, Nathan Bastion. That's and then Robertson as the RFA. Defensively, they're gonna lose. I mean, I mean, it looks like they're they could do it. You know, if they keep everyone on like cheap deals, they could do it.
SPEAKER_05Well, Ben's at the end of his career, he might just say, I'd like to stay in Dallas.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he's 30, he's 36, he's the captain, he's making one million already this year, but he's also has three million dollars in performance bonuses if he hits them. So if he stays at like that hit, you know, uh moves it to 50. They but the thing is like I think Robertson's looking at uh I I think rent him money, like the 12 million a year.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, he would he he definitely has earned that. He's he's uh he's had a great year.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So well, so it'll be interesting. I know he's the I know like the top person that people want to try to get. Because I've heard um oh god, it was a team that they were saying for Robertson. I can't remember now. Oh Adam says OV already said he's retiring. I I've heard that and I've also haven't heard that. I don't know if that's actually him that said it. I'm trying to see what who else? I wanna know scoring leaders. Let's see. Robertson, I would love that. Robertson deducts you add Jason Robertson's because uh his brother's also in the league, too. And I know he's looking his way out too. Alright, I'm just trying to. But alright, you're right, you ready to get out of here? I am all right. Well, thank you everyone for staying with us after our little uh week break that like I would say that we kind of needed. Um, but episode 99, guys, and next week it'll be episode 100 for us. Amen. So it we would really that would really help. Um, and Adam says, No, uh, no more time off.
SPEAKER_05We'll try, Adam. We'll try.
SPEAKER_00Hey, I hey I have plenty of PTO saved. I deserve time off.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, we know like hey, the the NHL will be on a little hiatus, but we will not. So we will be here um next week for you guys, and I think we even have a very fun idea. I'm not gonna spoil it, but I have a very fun. We we we already thought about the idea for the podcast idea. So stay tuned for episode 100 for us next week.
