A hundred episodes in, we decided to swing for the fences. We start with a quick pulse check on Los Angeles—Artemi Panarin will wear 72—and the tough news that Kevin Fiala underwent season-ending surgery, then dig into what that means for the Kings’ playoff odds, power-play rotations, and cap flexibility. From there, we zoom out to contract strategy: why a Brandt Clarke long-term deal at a rising cap might age beautifully, and how the Ducks can lock in Leo Carlsson and Cutter Gauthier without choking future space. Bridge deals for developing defense, bigger bets for cornerstone talent—this is where smart teams separate themselves.

Then comes the fun: we build a combined Ducks–Kings roster designed to take on Colorado. We draft top-six lines with Leo’s vision feeding Panarin’s edges and Kempe’s speed, a rugged second unit around McTavish and Byfield, and Kopitar stabilizing a crafty scoring line. On the back end, Dowdy’s structure pairs with Lacombe’s calm, Mintyukov’s push balances Clarke’s quarterbacking, and Mikey Anderson brings the quiet stops every contender needs. In net, it’s a true 1A/1B with Dostal and Kuemper, riding form while keeping legs fresh for a deep run.

Special teams can decide a series, so we map deliberate units: Byfield–Kempe and Anderson–Moore to kill entries, Kopitar–Paling to win the big draws, and two distinct power-play looks—Clarke up top on PP1 with Panarin and Kempe stretching seams, Leo distributing below the goal line; Lacombe on PP2 with Gauthier’s one-timer opposite Terry, and Fiala attacking the bumper slot. It’s all about handedness, retrievals, and pre-shot movement to lift shot quality, not just volume.

Threaded throughout, we track Olympic men’s hockey—surprises, blowouts, and standout goaltending—plus the ever-controversial interference calls under IIHF rules. We also test trade fits and risk: retention math for Dougie Hamilton, the utility of Ryan O’Reilly, and the high-variance upside of Elias Pettersson. The throughline is simple: blend skill with structure, protect the slot, and build a cap table that bends but doesn’t break.

If you enjoy smart roster talk, Olympic storylines, and a bold SoCal “superteam” experiment, hit follow, leave a review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify, and drop your ideal lines in the comments—who’s on your PP1 and why?

Hitting 100 Episodes

SPEAKER_02

Wow, I never thought we'd go this far, Cody. Did you?

SPEAKER_05

No, I was not expecting us to go 100 either.

SPEAKER_02

Um, well, we're here.

SPEAKER_05

Well, it turned out to be a 2024. Yeah, 2024 New Year's resolution for me, and it's still going now.

SPEAKER_00

And I think a little stronger than it has been.

SPEAKER_05

Do we lose you again?

SPEAKER_00

I'm here.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, you're oh you're frozen. Oh, there you are. Um, I I know most podcasts don't even make it to 100 episodes, so yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Well, yeah, a lot don't. We're we've persevered. We have persevered. We did. And this is a weird time to have not as much kings and ducks news as we would usually in February, but we do have you know Olympic stuff to talk to you guys about, and um making, you know, we talked about it in a prior podcast about making like a combined ducks, kings, team of this year, and what that might look like, and how competitive might it be. I think it would be as right competitive with Colorado, and maybe better.

SPEAKER_05

Yep. Oh, we got our first Kevin. Congrats on a hundred episodes. Thank you, Kevin.

SPEAKER_02

Appreciate that much. Uh Kevin. It's uh it's been God, so fast.

SPEAKER_05

Really fast.

SPEAKER_02

It's hard to believe that we're here. So um, how do we want how do you want to get this thing rolling, Cody?

SPEAKER_05

Well, since you actually have news, you go.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. Obviously, um if you paid a little bit attention to uh King's news, although I the hockey's been pretty crazy in the Olympics here, especially right now. It's uh what 10-0 Finland over Italy. Yeah, uh Bailey gave up his number for Panarin. I do not know.

SPEAKER_05

It's 11-0.

Kings Updates And Panarin’s Number

SPEAKER_02

Oh, thanks, Kevin. Uh wow. Um, yeah, but Bailey gave up his number 72. I don't know how much it cost Panarin to do it, you know. Maybe, you know, maybe some very good Russian Volka. Yeah, maybe that too. Uh but our Temi Panarin will be wearing number 72 for the Kings. And now, you know, this is a little bit of Olympic news and king news, and it's not great news. Uh, per Elliot Friedman, Kevin Fiala is having surgery this morning in Italy. No clarity yet on the exact injury, but unfortunately, it will be season ending, which I was gonna watch it last night, and then I decided not to. What see what happened? I just didn't want to see it.

Fiala’s Injury And Fallout

SPEAKER_05

I mean, it and it wasn't it wasn't Tom Wilson's fault either. That's what I've been hearing. I saw the play, I I only saw one like one little thing, and then I I lost internet because the area I was in yesterday. Yeah, but it didn't look like it was Tom Wilson's fault.

SPEAKER_02

You know, I mean, even like what happened to Dowdy last year. Yeah, I mean, that that really wasn't anybody's fault. Broken ankle surgery took him five months to come back, six months, whatever it was. Yeah, and and I think you're gonna have that same hopefully issue. I've heard rumors that it could be very serious, possibly um career ending, but that that's speculation. I I haven't heard anything from a credible source that it would be anything worse than what Elliot's already said, and Elliot's pretty accurate when he talks.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, he's like uh he cares, he cares about his work.

SPEAKER_02

He does, and he does a lot of research and is well respected, probably one of the most well well respected in the industry.

SPEAKER_05

So, yeah, even Kevin says, I I really don't like Wilson, but I don't think it was Wilson's fault. Field Fiala goes to reverse hit and it's an awkward collision. That's what I saw. That's I think that's what I saw too. I'll rewatch it and see. Um fortunately, we cannot play Olympic highlights because the copyrights, like you will get banned, like banned or copyright. So let's just we're staying away from that on here. So and we got someone on YouTube chat. Annalise says hi, Annalie.

SPEAKER_02

Um anyways. Um, yeah, I yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Um, what I was gonna say is I I hope y'all is okay, even though he likes to score on the ducks, but I hope he's okay. I mean, we're not playing each other the rest of the year, unless some somehow both teams are in the playoffs and somehow play against each other.

SPEAKER_01

Well, that definitely hurts our our playoff chances a little bit.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I mean, but that that that's a lot of cap space for you. And Adam's in the chat. Happy 100 boys. Let's do this.

SPEAKER_00

Hey, Captain Chaos to the rescue.

SPEAKER_05

So I'm there since there's not a lot of talk about, and we're gonna since we're still on King's news, um, the my ducks news is there was an uh this website AFP analytics came out with contract projections for you know RFAs and you know future uh free agents. So you guys only have one RFA this year, Brant Clark.

Contract Talk: Clarke And UFAs

SPEAKER_02

And they're already talking about having him sign before definitely before July. I saw yes, I did that's news too. I didn't I forgot to put that in. I when you brought up that right now. Um it clicked, yeah. Ken Holland had made a comment, um, maybe in one of his press conferences, that if they're already working on it, they want to get it done. Um he's having a a very excellent season, yeah. You know, with only more to come in the future, so we want to get something done with him. So he he's gonna end up getting paid.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, so here's the projections that they think Brent Clark will uh get in the contract. So there's a short-term and a long-term contract. So the like pretty much a bridge or long term. The bridge deal, two years at five million, uh, just like a little over five million a year. This is uh five point five million. What is it? What'd you say?

SPEAKER_04

That's just a weird amount.

SPEAKER_05

I would just say five point one million for for two years. Would you do that?

SPEAKER_02

Of course. I would do it. I mean, I I'd rather probably go more long term, like you guys said with Lacombe.

SPEAKER_05

Here's the long term seven years, 7.9 million.

SPEAKER_02

So that's per year. Is that a progressive or just a 7.9 every year?

SPEAKER_05

Uh it's just the 7.9 every that whole year, like for each year. So seven years, 55.5 point, uh, 55.586 million.

SPEAKER_02

I'll be honest with you. I would uh I would I would I would get him done long term. Why not do it?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, even because 7 times 7.9 with the rising cap would age like fine wine.

SPEAKER_00

Well put Mr. Kevin. Wow, I like it. Like fine wine, I love it.

SPEAKER_05

So let's see, are there any UFAs with the Kings? So Copertar is retiring. All right, so here's one for Kuzamenko. Uh uh one year 3.6 million.

SPEAKER_02

So less than he got right now.

SPEAKER_05

Yes. Oh, we also forgot to. It's also Valentine's Day. Yes, that was your intro part.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that was my intro part. Sorry, honey. I forgot.

SPEAKER_05

Well, happy Valentine's Day from us at Royal Equipment.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. And especially to you, Mama Quack.

SPEAKER_05

Yes, and there's also another special day that's happening this weekend.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, yeah. Okay.

SPEAKER_05

I think we know what it is. We'll save it for the end, though. I have a surprise for you. Um happy Valentine's Day, happy Valentine's Day from Kevin. It says, Do you guys have any plans?

Ducks Cap Outlook And Extensions

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, um, my sister got married on Valentine's Day. I was 11 when that happened and turning 12 the next day. And we're gonna go to the noodle bar, which is in uh Saboba casino, it's a really very tasty restaurant to go eat. Uh, I know you can't make it because you're on call, right? Yeah, so um but that's the only real plans for today, other than the podcast. I I've been off uh oh thanks, Kevin. Um, I've been off uh the last three days and working harder than I did at work. Really? Yeah. Wow. I cleaned all the furniture.

SPEAKER_05

Oh well, you know, yeah, that's right.

SPEAKER_02

If you guys, you know, some sad news, and I I I really didn't want to bring it up here, but I'm gonna anyways. Um, our dog of 15 and a half years was really sick, and we decided that it was time to let her go. But she had had issues with going to the restroom, and there was messes everywhere. Yeah, so I cleaned all the furniture just to make yes, I I saw that, Kevin or uh Adam, and I did uh wish you a happy anniversary.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, happy anniversary poor Andrea. Poor Andrea, that's all I'm gonna say.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean your your your kindness and willingness to love that man, we just don't understand it, but God bless you.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, God, God bless you, Andrea. I don't know how you put up with it. 10 years, and uh, we also had uh Jason from our uh network saying happy 100th episode, fellas. Thank you, Jason.

SPEAKER_02

Thanks, Jason. Appreciate that.

SPEAKER_05

Um, let's see. Oh man, I'm so sorry for you and your family sending you hugs your way. Yeah, it's been a an interesting couple weeks. Um, like I I was in an accident, not this last week, but the week before that. I'm like I said, I'm fine. I barely felt it because I'm in a big commercial vehicle. Like the the guy literally bounced right off of my truck. It wasn't my fault. Um, and everything. Then we already got the letter in the mail saying that from the the guy's insurance saying it was their fault. So I was like, hey, good. That's why I called the police every time because I want one story and one story only, so yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Um, and you're gonna stick with it, yes.

SPEAKER_05

And well, and and the the per the guy that hit caused the accident, he didn't disagree one bit when I told the story, so and then um we had someone on Christina's side um pass away as well, so um it it's a very weird week and everything like that, and then I'm on call for Valentine's Day and your birthday. So um, let's see, and then we had another one. Where is it? Uh glad you're safe, brother. No, yeah, like I said, I'm fine. Like I said, I barely felt anything with my truck. Um, it's never easy to lose a man's best friend. Sorry, Gary, I'm on a quack. Yeah, I I hate to say it was it was time for uh Zoe to well, you know, it's amazing is that it happened Monday.

SPEAKER_02

It happened after I went to work, and I I went over to you know just get one last kiss from her.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I'm sorry. When you're saying that, I read Adam's comment. But on the side note, happy birthday, Gary. Glad to see you're gracefully aging like milk.

Life Updates, Community Chat

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, well, you're already already spoiled there, Mr. Groll. Anyways, you know, just to get one last kiss from her, and I looked at her and god, I mean she looks so old, her eyes were kind of bulging, and I I knew it was time, it's just it is hard, you know. Anybody that has a pet, I mean, they're like family to you, and um, it's been a struggle all week. I mean, we're we are used to getting greeted when we get home, and there's no greeting. Uh it's it's just been weird. So, but let's go on to a more happy stuff.

SPEAKER_05

Well, so since I'm I'm also gonna uh answer Kevin's uh Valentine's Day plans. Uh since I'm on call, we can't really go out and everything. But Christina's actually, she's she was actually okay with just like staying home, probably just watching movies or a show or something. So we're we're gonna just go get some um food from the grocery store. And I don't know why, like the Albertsons that like right near our house has like really good, like spicy chicken tenders. Like, I don't know, they're just like really good. And we got this new ranch that our friend recommended to us, and it makes it like a good ranch really helps too. So that's and we're I don't know what we're gonna do in like watching, but yeah, yeah, takeout in movies is always is a 10 out of 10 day. No, I agree, and that was actually my wife's idea, so I'm okay with that. We were gonna go to Mexico Cafe, but we didn't want to go out.

SPEAKER_02

It's always a good place to go.

SPEAKER_05

Yes, it is. It's a really good place. Um all right, so back to um King's news. Uh hat I'm just gonna say hat bills are meant to be curved. It's curved here. Oh, um Kevin Kevin says they're going to the ring game tonight for Valentine's Day. Oh, that's cool. Oh, maybe you might Adam, are you gonna be at the ring game too? Or are you guys not doing that for Valentine's Day? Because maybe Kevin and Adam could meet.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, wouldn't that be cool?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, um, let's see. Jeff Millot, he is a UFA. Um, they're saying a projection for him, uh, one year 850,000. So it looks like league minimum. I'd sign him.

SPEAKER_02

I like him.

SPEAKER_05

All right, Moverari. He's also UFA. 27 years old, one year league minimum.

SPEAKER_02

I'd sign him.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, the ring game is up in Canada. That's right. Oh sorry, I Kevin, I always like forget that you live in that area. I always I keep I always think you're in SoCal because you use so you have such like SoCal vibes. I'm just saying. Yeah, I I I we just tell you how much I tell you how much I pay attention to the where the rain and goals play. I didn't know, okay.

SPEAKER_02

Well, we need to go up to near the Canadian border and meet Kevin. Yeah, you and you and Andrea take a quick flight.

SPEAKER_05

All right, um, let's see who else is uh Kusamenko Copley is 34 years old. It's like he's saying league minimum, and Corey Perry, 40. He'll be 41 next year. Um one year, 2.1 million. Yes, I I am very special. My mommy said so.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I think he's saying that in a different kind of special.

SPEAKER_05

I know, dad. That's the joke. So those are the flight to the border north gold. All right, well, now that we're done with the kings stuff, we're gonna look at the like there's like there's no ducks news right now. So here's what they're projecting for ducks players to get for their cap next year. And I and I already like this for Leo Carlson. There's one projection, it's a long-term contract. Eight years, 10.9 million a year. I would sign it as fast as I can if I was for if that was the cap hit. I would say he like if Leo says, hey, I'll sign, I'll do this. Pat Verbeek better be like light speed flight over to where Leo is and have him sign that instantly. So yes, in a heartbeat for Cutter Gautier, uh short term, uh, three years, 6.3 million a year. And then the long term, seven years, eight point five million a year. Again, light split light speed flight to where cutter is, sign the contract.

SPEAKER_06

Yep. For that seven years.

SPEAKER_05

All right, Kalominchikov, short term, two years, three point two million longer term five years, five point five nine million. Again, light speed, light. I can't I don't know why I can't say that as normal as I want to, because I'm special.

SPEAKER_02

Again, no, you're proving you're special.

SPEAKER_05

I I am very proving it. All right, Ollen Zellwegger, two years, four uh just four like four point one million or seven years, seven point two eight million. That one I'm a little let's wait and see. I'd be okay with the two years at four million.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

I'm there's coding, yeah. Don't don't ask me what's in this drink right now. It's just an energy drink, that's it. Um and then Ian Moore, uh two years, uh one point one point seven million, pretty much.

SPEAKER_02

So you you guys are gonna start getting uh having to watch your cap.

SPEAKER_05

Yes. Luckily, it's at a time where the cap's going up.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, but you're gonna be not running on the low. You're not gonna be at the low end for long.

SPEAKER_05

Here's the thing.

SPEAKER_02

Let's see, where is it?

Olympic Hockey: Results And Standouts

SPEAKER_05

Um, let me pull up the the ducks. Anaheim. So next year we have 36.2 million in cap. Because one we will have uh Painling off, Johnston off, Harkins, and Jen. Jeffrey VL. Those ones are like all very minor. But here's the big ones. Gudis is 4 million. He's not gonna be making 4 million a year. He's 30, he'll be 36 next year. Truba's making 8 million right now. He's not gonna be making that much later. And then Mrazic's also making 4.25 million. He's either not going to be here or definitely not making that much. So a lot of cap is coming off, but again, if we sign those contracts, there's a lot going on. A lot more going on. So yes, I agree with what you were saying. Like for you guys, you guys have Kopitar, but he's retiring. Um, Kuzmenko's a UFA, Perry's a UFA, Mulat's a UFA, Brandon Morverari, and your goalie is you're good until next year. After next season, then you gotta worry.

SPEAKER_02

Probably not because I think Carter George and and the hammer might be ready to move in.

SPEAKER_05

True. So um for Leo, I would do the long term, Cutter long term, Mitchikov long term, and Ian and Z and Zellbugger. I would do the short terms. That's what I would do.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, agree. I I think that would be smart, smart hockey.

SPEAKER_05

Yes, so let's we'll talk about Olympic hockey now. So it's been very interesting of what what we've been seeing. All right, um, let's do men's. So the first game we had Slovakia versus Finland, and that game you uh Slovakia won four to one. You had Slavkovsky scoring two goals, Dvorsky scoring one, and Rudzika scoring one, and then uh Tolvinin scored the lone goal for Finland. Let's see if I can come on, and then you had Sweden versus Italy in this one, and I let's just say I'm gonna mention the goal scores, and there's a player of the game that did not get mentioned that uh I will bring up in a second. Let's see. So Sweden won 5-2, uh Landesgog scored, um, Forsberg scored, oh sorry, foring, uh, William Nielander, Mika Zabanajad, and Victor Hedman. And then for Italy, you had Frigo and Bradley. But the big story was not not from a guy in Sweden, but the guy from let's see, where is it? Where is the goalie stats? Is it not gonna show me goalie stats? I don't know. So the ducks prospect, Damien Clara, was in this game. Where is the goalie stats? Huh? Why is it not showing me? Let's see, Italy. Oh, here it is. Okay, why it's giving making him like a player. That's stupid. That makes no sense. I want the stats for him, not for Jesus. That's stupid. They have him like uh in a player, like goals assist and points for goalies instead of saves and shots against. But uh, anyways, I believe he had since it doesn't want to show me the actual stats on here. Um, so he had see, does it say game summary? I don't care. Okay, it's still not showing me goalie stats. That's great job, uh Olympics, by not giving me goalie stats on here. But I believe he had 46 saves and he only played 46 minutes. Yeah, mom put in 46. Oh, 46.

SPEAKER_00

She found it.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, let's see. Uh Sweden versus Slovakia too was hilarious watching Slovakia celebrate the loss like they won. Because I think it was like it goes off of goals. Because since there's like a tiebreaker, and the tiebreaker is goals four. So I believe if they scored that last goal, they moved on pretty much. Yeah, and yeah, 46 saves. But he did that in 46. Yeah, here you go. 46 saves in 46 minutes on 49 shots. Thanks, Adam. I don't know. I guess I know I had it somewhere, but it's not showing on the actual website. Yeah, but let's see, let's go back to all right. Just to make this go a little quicker, I'm not gonna just tell you who's I'm not gonna tell the who scored. Let's see. So that was the Wednesday games. Um, Thursday, you had Switzerland versus France. Switzerland won 4-0. Then you had Canada versus Finland, and Canada whooped on Finland and shut them out five. Oh, sorry, that's the women's. Oops. Um, here it is. Oh, men's Canada played Chechia and beat them five-nothing.

SPEAKER_02

And that's that's that's not Czechia's pretty good.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, Czechia is yeah, they're good. So I'm gonna move this over here so I can see everything still. There it is. Um, let's see. And then we had uh Latvia versus United States. United States won five to one. I was I was able to watch a little bit of that.

SPEAKER_02

That was a slow-moving game at the start.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, especially it didn't help that the USA scored two goals that were called back in the first period.

SPEAKER_02

One was an offside, the other one was goalie interference, which he would have never made a save, anyways, on the shot, according to these announcers.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, a lot of people a lot of people don't understand that. Um they said it was a very soft goalie interference, but I believe the double IHF rules are a lot different than NHL rules, but then again, I don't understand the NHL goalie interference rules, so who knows?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it's all right. I mean, yeah we've we've had plenty of controversy with uh officiating in multiple sports now.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. Um, last game on Thursday was Germany and Denmark. Germany won three to one. And then yesterday we had the uh a rivalry game, Finland, Sweden, and Finland won four to one. Um, and then Italy played Slovakia, and Slovakia barely beat Italy 3-2, uh, France versus Czechia, and France was winning at one point in this game three to two, but Czechia comes back and wins six to three, and then Canada versus Switzerland. Canada won five to one, and then we have this morning, like we said, Sweden beat Slovakia 5-3. Um, Latvia upset Germany and Adam, no touch, no touchy goalie. And I don't even think that in that USA game that he was really even touched, really. And then uh obviously we know Finn, uh Finland beat Italy 11-0. And then in about a little under two hours, we have United States versus Denmark um later, so you know that's why I'm wearing my USA hat. And then tomorrow we'll have Switzerland versus Czechia, which that should be a good game. Uh, Canada versus France, that should not be a good game. Um, Denmark versus Latvia, an under an okay game, and then United States versus Germany, that should be a good game, and then after that, we'll have um we'll go into the metal round where people were it's uh one a one-game elimination. So we're looking at next Sunday we will see the uh men's gold medal game. So it's kind of hard to tell you who's gonna be in it because we don't know who's playing who in the in the elimination rounds, and it yeah, you get surprises every every so often, exactly. I it because like it's hard to really tell with all that. Let's see, does it give me the group stand? No, it does not. Um, but yeah, like I said, it's gonna be a very interesting Olympics, it's gonna be very fun to watch. So, all right, you do you want to get into our Ducks Kings roster?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, let's do it. Okay, so yeah, we talked about this in a prior episode.

SPEAKER_05

I think the only way we win a cup is if we combine the ducks offensive power and king's defensive. I don't know what's the word for that protection. Good enough, tactics. So all right, do you have a team?

Building A Combined Ducks–Kings Roster

SPEAKER_02

I forgot about it. I'm just gonna be honest. I know you have a team, I have a team, and and we'll we'll play off your team, okay, and maybe we'll flip things around a little bit here and there. Maybe we'll pick some different players. We'll see.

SPEAKER_05

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

So how do you how you want to go ahead and how you how you want to just give who the players are first that you picked, or do you want to do the lines and then go from there?

SPEAKER_05

So I will give you my forward lines first. And Adam, I know you're in a judge, but just wait. So right now for forwards, I for line one, I have Campe on the left, Leo centering, and Panarin on the right. I know Panarin hasn't technically played a game, but he's on the kings, he has a contract. So boom, that's my first line. Second line, I have cutter on the left.

SPEAKER_02

That's a pretty that's a pretty tough line right there. You're talking a lot of scoring going on there.

SPEAKER_05

Um, and then second line, I have cutter on the left, McTavish centering, and byfield on the right.

SPEAKER_02

Moving byfield from center to forward to winger, yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I think that's in worst case scenario, byfield and McTavish can switch.

SPEAKER_02

I I think I think McTavish is better on the faceoffs.

SPEAKER_05

So when he's not getting kicked out, yes.

SPEAKER_02

He's cheating to win.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. Um, and then third line, I have Fiala, Kopitar, and Terry. And fourth line, I have Kuzmenko, Paling, and Seneca. Okay. So I mean, there's other people you can switch, but I kind of wanted to have like a mold on each one, like a score. I wanted to have I try to have different like shots on each, like a left shot, right shot on the line. The only line I did not do that on was the second line because cutter, McTavish, and Bifeld all shoot left. But every other line, I have at least one of each. So, and I I I also wanted to have like a good like checking person, even though on the line one, there's no big checking forward.

SPEAKER_02

I don't know. Kempe's uh he's he checks.

SPEAKER_05

I'm at like a like a someone that's gonna get in the uh hey Glenn, how are you?

SPEAKER_02

Welcome to Royal Equest.

SPEAKER_05

Hey Glenn, he's also part of our network. Um, let's see, and then so that's my and then my extra forwards. I have Granlon, Kreider, uh La Ferriere, and Armia. Oh, thanks, Glenn. I appreciate it. I wanted to represent for when we play Denmark today. Um, let's see, and then defense. Here's who I have. I have Lacombe on left side, Dowdy on the right side. And like I said, in my line two and three, you can switch up like who you want second or third pair. Um, for my second one, I have Minchikov on the left, Clark on the right, and then on the third line, uh Mikey Anderson and Ian Moore on the right, and then my extras. I have Zellwegger and Dumulin and Goliath's I have Dolstall as the starter and Kemper as the backup. If you want to bring in checking, add Johnston to the fourth line. I mean, that's Paling and Beckett on that. So I'm not worried about I'm at for every line I wanted that. John, I love Johnston right now. I wouldn't put Johnston into the starting no, and he's not even one of my extras because I mean Beckett and Paling both check. They're both they both will hit.

SPEAKER_02

So um I mean we you we could intermix some of this. Yes, I I I really can't think of who I would replace like as just a player on this.

SPEAKER_05

I mean who you would take out and uh put in put in a different player, right?

SPEAKER_02

Uh I really I I thought about it. Um because I mean the backup guys we got a score, a couple scorers, and we got a couple guys that just do uh I mean the scorers are really Grenlin and Kreider, uh, but LeFerrier and Armia, they just do all the little things that help teams win.

SPEAKER_05

That's why I I added them so as extras.

SPEAKER_02

I don't have a problem with that. I mean, I think we could mix those lines up a little bit here and there. You could put Kopey second line, McTavish third, or you could put Fiala up for Cutter.

SPEAKER_05

I but I actually kind of I kind of like what you did because the reason why I put McTavish with Byfield is just because maybe McTavish can get the offensive going with well the you think of the other thing.

SPEAKER_02

One thing that Byfield does do, he go, he'll go to the corners, he will get the puck. Yeah, and you're talking about he's he's he's one of the first guys out on the penalty kill. We didn't even talk about that power play or penalty kill.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I I didn't do that, I was gonna wait for that. I just wanted to make the team yeah, Adam says remove Byfield and add McQueen. You can't add McQueen, he's not signed. So McQueen.

SPEAKER_02

I otherwise, I mean and I can tell you right now, I wouldn't do that anyways. McQueen still needs to, you know, he needs to boil in the pot a little bit longer before it maybe eventually, yes, but now no, he's not ready.

SPEAKER_05

Did you notice what I did with each line? Though I did two kings, one duck, two ducks, one king, two kings, one duck, two ducks one king. I just never realized that.

SPEAKER_02

I I hadn't noticed that.

SPEAKER_05

I just now noticed that.

SPEAKER_02

But what you what you what you do have is you you have what you guys are one thing you're you guys aren't really good on the penalty kill, right? No, you got you got three of the best forwards for penalty kill that the kings have. Oh, four. I'm sorry. So so your ducks could rest.

SPEAKER_05

Well, I mean paling would be a good PK person, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Uh, but Army is probably the best.

SPEAKER_05

Okay, so let's just do the people that are starting. How would you do the PK?

SPEAKER_02

The penalty kill. I would do byfield Kempe. Oh man. I would I would probably start byfield Kempe, Dowdy Anderson.

SPEAKER_05

Let's see.

SPEAKER_02

I might have to switch that up. I would do I mean because you wanna you wanna have balance on your PK. You want at least you probably actually probably want three PK units.

SPEAKER_05

I would do Mikey and Moore on the top one, and then Minchakoff and Dougie on the second one. Or look, look, or we can do Lacomb and Dowdy on the second one.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, and you could always have Clark and Mitchikoff be the the third pair, so everybody doesn't get too tired. But I would you know byfield and Kempe are uh I I believe Bifild and Armia are the ones that come out now for the Kings.

SPEAKER_05

So do you want to do Anderson and Moore on the first one?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that's fine.

SPEAKER_05

Dowdy Lacomb second, and Clark Mitchikov could be and then who and for PK2, who would be the forwards?

SPEAKER_02

Kopitar and Paling Paling.

SPEAKER_05

And then for defense, we chose Minty and Dowdy or I thought you picked Anderson Moore, Lacomb, Dowdy.

SPEAKER_02

Do you want Minchikov and Dowdy? You do Clark and Lacomb together on the third one, and the other team's offense gets tired. Look out, we might get a goal.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, we'll do Minty and Dowdy.

SPEAKER_02

I like that one.

SPEAKER_05

All right, so that's the PK. Now the fun one.

SPEAKER_02

Power play?

SPEAKER_05

Power play.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I think you gotta have. I would the three forwards is the number one line, I think.

SPEAKER_05

PP1.

SPEAKER_02

So we'll do and you could add a forward to that.

SPEAKER_05

I'm gonna put Leo behind the net or on the bumper. No, it's too behind the net. Um who who do you want quarterbacking PP1?

SPEAKER_02

Well, you want to go five forwards, you want to do a one defenseman and four forwards.

SPEAKER_05

We're gonna do one defenseman.

SPEAKER_00

How good is Lacomb?

SPEAKER_05

I I like Lacomb on PP1. I think he's a he's a good power player. I if you say Clark, I I'm not gonna disagree.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, I'm just saying they got I would put what one one on the other one too. I'm not sure. I I don't know his stats, and I honestly haven't I know Clark has cemented himself as the the the PP uh one quarterback.

SPEAKER_05

All right, let's see. Would it tell me stats? See stats.

SPEAKER_02

Of course, our PP power play in the Kings right now sucks. Panarin's hopefully gonna be a huge difference with that.

SPEAKER_05

Clark has one I want more stats than just that, though. Let's see. Stats I want the docs. Can I do multiple teams? Nope, I cannot. So docs it doesn't give me that.

SPEAKER_04

Teams.

SPEAKER_03

Hmm.

SPEAKER_02

I'm surprised we haven't heard from Adam what he thinks.

SPEAKER_05

All right, power play points. Lacomb has 11 power play points. Tab. Hold on.

Special Teams: PK And Power Play Units

SPEAKER_02

On a much better, better power play unit than the Kings. Kings are like second or third worse in the in the league.

SPEAKER_05

And Clark has eight. Clark has one goal, seven assist. Lacomb has one goal, ten assist.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

But you give Clark a better power point unit, he's gonna be incredible. They'll both be better. We can pick him one, two. It doesn't really matter to me. Uh-uh.

SPEAKER_05

So we'll do Clark. We'll do Clark. I'm okay with Clark. Alright, and then in the middle, I would do Panarin. Like in the bumper.

SPEAKER_02

You're gonna put in front of the net.

SPEAKER_05

Panarin. Or wait. So we got Leo on the back. We'll do Kempe. On the right. I guess we could do Panarin on the left. Yeah, we'll do Panarin. I'll try to add another duck if we can.

SPEAKER_02

What about Cutter?

SPEAKER_05

Cutter, I'd want where Kempe is. For that one time.

SPEAKER_02

So he'd be on the he'd be on the second unit.

SPEAKER_05

Um, let's see. Maybe we could oh Beckett would be good in the middle. We'll do Beckett. And then two. We're gonna do Lacombe as the quarterback. Behind the net. Where do where do um let's see, we'll do cutter on the right for the one timer. You know, do byfield in the middle on the bumper. Yeah, is he good at tipping?

SPEAKER_02

He is, he's a big guy in front of the net. He doesn't do it enough, though. I think they've been trying to get him in there more. Uh Kopitar'd be a good guy to be behind the net.

SPEAKER_05

That that's what I was thinking. So we'll do Copey behind. That's what I was already thinking. Um, let's see. Oh, we got Kevin said uh King's power play has looked really bad, but has looked so much better since Clark has moved to power play one. Yeah, which that should have been that should happen.

SPEAKER_02

It should have happened right from day one. Yeah. But all right, and then let's do I want how many how many do we have on PP2?

SPEAKER_05

We have three Copatar behind the net, Cutter on the right, and Lacomb quarterbacking.

SPEAKER_02

Um you gotta get Viala in there.

SPEAKER_05

That's what I was I was thinking putting Viala on the other side because of course he's sneaking out for the rest of the season. Well, we're doing this before that, so I don't care. No, I I agree with Fiala, he should be in there, and then you know, Terry's a actually Terry would be good on the other side. He's a right, he's a right, he's a right-handed shot. You gotta get Terry in there because so we'll put Terry and then Fiala in the middle. Because Fiala can be very good in that in that middle area. I feel like if you get Cutter or Terry to sneak in a pass to him, and especially since Terry was it, Terry's uh right-handed shot, and if he gets instead of one time, he can slide it over to Fiala, and Fiala can one time it is his left-handed shot, right? So I like that actually. So here's the the PKs we have Bifeld Kempe, Anderson Moore, and PK two, we have Kobe, Paling, Minty, and Dowdy. Power play one, we have uh Brant Clark quarterbacking, Kempe on the right, Panarin on the left, Leo behind the net, and Beckett Seneca in front of the net because he's a big boy, and then Copitar behind the net on power play two, Lacombe quarterbacking, Terry on the left, Fiela on the bumper, and cutter on the right. Because I want I for sure wanted at least cutter in that spot on PK.

SPEAKER_02

He's a goal scorer, you you want to get him the puck.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, and he's a good one-time shot.

SPEAKER_02

Only problem with this is we have so much talent, it could we could play it whole many different ways.

SPEAKER_05

I wonder if I if uh on the NHL game I can like make a team get make this team and see how they do, but the only thing is like I'd have to make them like a 33rd team with the ducks and and Kings already as a team. I don't know how I'm gonna do that. But I don't know if I can have multiple players like that.

SPEAKER_02

I don't know either. Yeah, that's interesting. It is very interesting, and I and I to be honest with you, too. Um, that would be 1A, 1B with the goalies.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, but Dolstal, I feel like, would be the number one number one, but I think you'd play Kemper just as much because you look at what he does.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that's true, and he's a little more seasoned. Not that, but you'd probably play him every other game in something like this. But if you at and then do you see see who's hot and then it's you run ride with the hot guy, yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Like I said, and you can you can convince me if you want Forsling or who so as the third. For Forsberg. For did I say Forzling? Yeah, yeah, I'm at Forsberg.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he's a defenseman, isn't he?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, yeah. I'm at Forsberg.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, uh come see, come saw that one. Yeah, you'd have to have injuries to have that play out, anyways.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. Um, but all right, well, that went a lot quicker than I expected.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I I've been trying to think of I mean, I think we could play with the lines, uh but I don't know if we play with different players or not. I just we got a lot of youth with a lot of experience there, yeah. And we even have youth on on the on the D-pair, even in goal, those dolls still young. So I think that's a pretty good team.

Goalie Strategy And Depth Debates

SPEAKER_05

Yep. So uh I was gonna ask, there was rumors about the kings going for evander cane. Do you want would you want Evander Kane on this team? Especially now with the Fiela news?

SPEAKER_06

No. I don't like Evander Kane.

SPEAKER_05

Kevin says, Does this team contend for the cup?

SPEAKER_06

I mean, I would think so. I I mean, yeah, I mean you know, considering that that everybody would be healthy.

SPEAKER_05

I wonder what happens if we made this team and if it would be cap compliant.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I think what Kuzmenko, Palin, Seneca, they're all pretty cheap. After that, you're getting into some serious money. And Leo's still pretty cheap right now for this year, right?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, let's see.

SPEAKER_02

Panarin's at what 11? Campe's at he's at still 5.5 this year.

SPEAKER_06

Um, let's see.

SPEAKER_02

His 11 million does or 10 million doesn't start till next year. It won't let me make a team. Cutter cutters on a deal, still.

SPEAKER_00

I think it might be compliant.

SPEAKER_02

The one that might.

SPEAKER_05

I mean, Panarin, you have Dowdy. Can't I mean Kempe's still on a good deal?

SPEAKER_02

Copatar's only seven million. Terry's on what seven million, right?

SPEAKER_05

He's seven million. Fiala's a little over seven.

SPEAKER_02

The third highest player on the team is Lacomb. Or is that start next year?

SPEAKER_05

That starts next year. Okay, so he might be you weren't happy about uh getting Perry. I don't hear complaints now. Same thing for Kane. I think Kane's like a different kind of evil.

SPEAKER_02

He is. He plays dirty. I mean, really dirty. I mean, Perry is an irritant. Kane, you just hate. And anyways, he's old and uh older, and I don't think he's worth as much. I'd rather I rather get uh Mangia Ponti trade Fogo for Mangia Ponti. I've heard that rumor. Mangi Apani he was once what 35 goals scored this season? We need goals. We can we don't have enough goal scoring. Kane, I just I don't care about him.

SPEAKER_05

Maybe five years ago, yes, but now um so did you know that in the Seth Jones deal going to Florida, that the first round pick that went to Chicago was a project a protected first round pick, top 10 pick? I did not know that. So because Florida right now, they're uh let's see, they have the 11th best odds for the lottery. So they're almost in the top 10 right now. So if that happens, Chicago doesn't get the pick, but they get next year, they'll get next year, and then I think Boston gets the year after, because right now, technically, Boston has 2027, and then so that one will get moved up to or moved back to 2028, and so in that's if Florida can you imagine Florida getting a top 10 pick in the draft?

SPEAKER_02

Um I I see what uh Adam said, and the the the news is that Dallas is gonna do their best to sign him, they're not looking to move him. I mean, who wouldn't want him?

Trade Targets And Fit Analysis

SPEAKER_05

Let's see how much cap space do they have next year? So right now they have 16 million in cap space next year, 16.4. Well, Dallas, he's probably gonna he's yeah, Dallas. He's probably gonna want at least 12 million, so they'll have 4.4 million left. And see who let's see, they got assigned Maverick Bork. Um Jamie Ben.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, but Jamie Ben might come back on a deal if he wants to play another year.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, he's only making one million this year plus bonuses and three million, and if those bonuses hit, if those bonuses hit, that that could go to next year's cap and make it less. I don't know if you knew that.

SPEAKER_02

Um, well, yeah, he'd come back at he gave him a deal this year.

SPEAKER_05

Yes, but so say if Jamie Ben hits his performance bonuses and there's no cap space left this year, it goes to next year's cap. So that 3 million, so say if he hits all three million of his performance bonuses, that goes into next year's cap. And then instead of having 16, they'll have 13 million. Then they'll really and then so and they gotta re-sign Maverick, they gotta sign resign Niels Lundquist. They gotta sign let's see, uh either Alexander Petrovic or Kyle Capablanco. At least like on the on the goalie front, they're fine. They already have Ottinger signed, and uh Casey DeSmith is signed, so they're good on the goalie front.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, but I keep hearing that the they they want rock the Robertson to stay, and I can't blame them.

SPEAKER_05

I get I just don't know how, and the only way I see it is if they trade Tyler Sagan away. Because he's making 9.85 million. They'll have to get isn't he out? He's injured right now, he's on long-term IR. I mean, so they can make it work this year, but he's still on the roster for next year, and he has a he has a no-movement clause, so he can't be traded or sent to the miners or waived. So he'd have to ex he gets to pick where he goes. It's kind of like a the Panarin thing if they trade him, yeah. So it's I I I don't see how else they do this. Like I said, that that that Jamie Ben stuff can really hurt them. I don't know what the the bonuses are, but that can hurt them, and then we could be seeing like I said, we're either seeing Tyler Sagan getting traded, or uh they do something with either Maverick Bork or Jason Robertson.

SPEAKER_02

Who did you want to keep?

SPEAKER_05

Well, if I was Dallas, I'd want to keep Robertson. But Maverick Bork is 24 years old, Robertson is 26 years old. God, Maverick Bork is 24. I thought he was like 22 years old or something. I mean, White Johnston is signed, Urpe Hens is signed, Duchenne is signed. Unless they somehow trade Roddick Fox, but that's only 2 million. Sam Steele's making 2.1 million. It's gonna be interesting how they do this. I guess it'll really prove if uh Jim Neal the GM there, if he really proves if he's again the number one GM of the year again, which I don't see this year. So who do you see? To win GM of the year? Who's made like great moves? I mean, I could see the Red Wings with you know the John Gibson trade, because he's looking great in Detroit. Um San Jose, Mike Greer, I like the moves he's made. Let's see. Let's see. Uh what I kept saying. Why do you think there's there have been cons consistently been rumors over the last year that Dallas is hesitant to sign Robertson? Seems weird, he's not totally wanted by Dallas or the USA, but almost everyone would take him on our teams in a heartbeat.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, because he was he was probably the biggest slight, yeah, slight not to be on team USA.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, our snub, if you want to look at it that way, yeah.

SPEAKER_05

So yeah. Um I I think it's just because Dallas has so much like I mean, look at the was it who look at what they have on their team. Ranton, Hence, Johnston, Duchesne, Maverick Bork. I mean, they also got Hiskinen, Harley, uh Thomas Harley, and you know, his contract's going up this next year. Um, Ilya Labushkin, uh Lundell. Like I said, they got a and I guess Ottinger and goal. Like they already got a stacked lineup with a lot of cap space already, you know, Tyler Sagan as well. Um, so I mean that's probably why, and I don't know why USA didn't want him. That I don't know. Like I would I I would have wanted him on USA.

SPEAKER_02

I was shocked he didn't get picked. Yeah. But but like you look, you look at uh, you know, the the guys they did take and they're they're producing.

SPEAKER_05

Um I would have taken JT Miller off. I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

I just Miller's a center, and he's a great face-off guy.

SPEAKER_05

It was you're not telling me they had other guys that play center on that team?

SPEAKER_02

Well, they do. So do I have the line uh you got eichel's the number one center? I know. Let's see.

SPEAKER_05

Uh do I have it right here? No, let's all right. Where's the no where are you going taking me? I want to go to the rosters.

SPEAKER_06

Let's see, United States. Where are you?

SPEAKER_02

Icl, Kachuk, Kachuk, Austin Matthews, Dylan Larkin, Brock Nelson. They're using uh Miller and Hughes, both both centers as forwards. Tage Thompson's the center, he's the forward. Let's see.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Matthews. I mean, Dylan Larkin's a center, Tage Thompson's a center, Brock Nelson, Jack Hughes, and JT Miller are centers, Trochuk's a center. Like I said, they had plenty of centers if you take JT Miller out. And um Lacombe did not dress for team USA in the first game, which I kind of thought was obvious. I understand why. I hope I hope he gets some playing time though. Let's see. Uh, a Nelson Hughes Robertson fourth line would have been a joy to watch. That honestly, and Nelson looked good. He he had two goals, didn't he? And or he had one called back. He had two goals, and he also had one call call back. And I think he also hit the post. He could have had four goals in that game. So I would have probably wanted Robertson over Miller. Oh, and then they were talking about on the Jeff Merrick show. Also, you know what? You want to know what the worst trade of all time is now? The new the the JT Miller trade from Vancouver to New York. I mean, both teams are bad after that trade. New York is 30th overall. Vancouver is the worst team in the league. You know, New York can't score at home. They can't win at home. And Philipito, who went back to Vancouver, he's always injured. So I mean that's crazy that a trade made both teams worse.

SPEAKER_02

I'll say who else would be well, you know, JT Miller's not in percentage wise in the top twenty five. Yeah. I'm trying to think who else would be good for the um you know you you know who they they could have taken as Trochak is is 14th.

SPEAKER_05

Trochak is on the team.

SPEAKER_02

Is he playing?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, he's the 13th forward.

SPEAKER_02

He's not well, he's not playing. No, he played.

SPEAKER_05

No, he he and um you can have an extra player on so you address 13 forwards, seven defensemen, and two goalies for Olympics.

SPEAKER_02

So who do you think the number one face-off percentage on team USA is for this season? I mean, in the NHL, not talking about the Olympics right now. You're just talking about in the regular season. Yes. Who would be the top on the team? Who would be the top percentage guy?

SPEAKER_05

Um Matthews?

SPEAKER_02

Good guess. Matthews is number six in the NHL right now percentage at 59.3. That's pretty good. That is pretty good. Jonathan Taves, 61%. Now, some of these guys aren't taking as many face-offs. You know the guy that you don't think of? Dylan Strome from Washington. He's taken a thousand six face-offs. He's won 59.5% of them. Wow.

SPEAKER_05

That's actually really good.

SPEAKER_02

Rupe hints is 59.2 percent.

SPEAKER_05

That's actually really good.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, yeah, just eichel's not there, Nelson's not there. Larkin, I think, is in the top 25. I want to say. Where was he? You want to know? Can you do you think there's a duck in the top 25?

SPEAKER_05

No.

SPEAKER_02

You do you want to know if there's a king?

SPEAKER_05

There's not a king.

SPEAKER_02

There is a king.

SPEAKER_05

Uh Turcot?

SPEAKER_02

Turcot is number 18 at 55.7 percent. I can't. I I this is surprising me. I mean, something you don't think about, and I think there is proof that it helps, and there is also proof that it doesn't help. That's why they don't make a big deal about the face-offs, um, saying it's helps win, but I think it does. You get that face-off when you're you're down, you got that guy, you're you're down on that guy, and you and you and you uh you ice the puck, that makes a difference, and uh you get that one where it's the one timer and they score a goal, that makes a difference. It just doesn't make a difference enough for people to think it's important, but it does make a difference, so yeah. But you know, the teams are the teams, we got to support them. Yeah, um, let's see.

SPEAKER_05

Do they have this up right now?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I agree. I I would think I would have taken JT Miller out and put in Jason Robertson. I I don't have any issue with that. I was shocked when he wasn't on the team.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, that's old. I want current I want the current stuff. Um, let's see. Why isn't it giving me is this up to date? Let's see. Nope, that's not current. Why can't why isn't it giving me oh here we go. I think this is the one we're looking for. He's already traded. Alright. I'm gonna give you some names, and I want you to tell me if you take them on your team or where and where you expect them to go if they get traded. So the first one already got traded. It's Panarin. I think we both would have said yes. Oh, yeah. Especially with the trade package plus the contract. All right, second one, Dougie Hamilton, 32 years old, nine million dollar cap hit through next season. So you'll have him for this year and next year. 10 team trade list. Would you take him? And if not, where do you expect him to go?

SPEAKER_02

You know, he's injury prone. I don't know if I'd want to take on uh nine million dollars and and take all our cap for him. Where might he go?

SPEAKER_06

Oh, how about how about the ducks?

SPEAKER_05

Uh that's a no from me. Okay, I would have I probably think you'd be a better fit for the kings than the ducks, especially if you can get him retained for 50 percent.

SPEAKER_02

Because that's another now now now. If that were to happen, then it would be a thought.

SPEAKER_05

Yes, because is he right handed another offensive is a right-hander?

SPEAKER_02

Is he right-handed or left?

SPEAKER_05

He is give me a second, Ducky Hamilton. He is uh most of them are left-handed, he's a right shot.

SPEAKER_02

Ooh. So you got Doug Clark. You have CeC. I would trade CC for him.

SPEAKER_05

Would you do how about this? Fogle and a third-round pick for or actually Fogle and a second round pick, and you get Dougie Hamilton half retained.

SPEAKER_02

I'd say yes. Okay, because I think that makes us stronger on the defense, even though we're pretty strong there already, but he's also an offensive guy, so that gives you another. I mean, because CC's not much of an offensive guy, yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Okay. Um, for me, Doug Hamilton to the Ducks, no, where I would see him going, San Jose.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

All right, next up, Braden Shen. Center, 34 years old, six and a half million through next season. You want him in the Kings?

SPEAKER_02

If I got him half retained, yes. We need centers.

SPEAKER_05

Okay. He uh he has a 15-team no trade list. Yeah, probably us on it. Well, it's usually either Canada or California teams and New York teams most of the time because of the tax stuff. Um where do you see him going?

SPEAKER_02

Think about that. He's with St. Louis, right?

SPEAKER_05

He's with St. Louis. Because remember, as soon as we get back, we each uh let's see, I don't even know how much. Let me see if I can pull that up. I guess I could delete you, delete this.

SPEAKER_06

Um gosh. Bring Shen back home.

SPEAKER_02

All right, we didn't didn't we didn't we draft him?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I think so. All right, so you have to Kevin's talking about three he's one one of our draft so you guys have five games after coming back from the Olympics before the trade deadline. So you play in this order, Vegas on the 25th, of course, Oilers on the 26th, and they're both at home. So you have a home two home games in a row back to back. Um Calgary at home on um Colorado at home, and then the Islanders at home. Yeah, they're all at home. You it looks like you have like a six-game homestand coming back. Okay. So, I mean, that's a tough five games, too. Especially the Vegas Edmonton back-to-back at home like that. Then you got Calgary, which is you know, hit or miss with you guys, and then Colorado.

SPEAKER_02

See, I would I would trade Fogle in a second or a third to get Shen.

SPEAKER_05

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

If I could do that and then half retained, we're not we're adding nothing.

SPEAKER_05

So um, I'm saying no for me. Oh, here we go. Uh Shen was drafted by the Kings and was traded as part of a package for Mike Richards.

SPEAKER_02

Thanks, Kevin. Yeah, that it did help us win a cup.

USA Roster Snubs And Faceoff Value

SPEAKER_05

Um, let's see. For me, I would say no to Shen. Where do I see him going? I say he stays in St. Louis until offseason. I'm gonna say that. All right, next up, uh also from the St. Louis Blues, Justin Falk, 33-year-old defenseman, St. Louis Blues. Again, cap hit six and a half, 15 no trade list, and he he signed through next season as well.

SPEAKER_06

No.

SPEAKER_05

No?

unknown

No.

SPEAKER_05

Where do you see him going? He's a right shot as well.

SPEAKER_02

Another maybe, maybe San Jose. They can score, they just have a hard time playing defense.

SPEAKER_05

Um, let's see. For me, I'm gonna say no for the ducks. I don't know why it's I can't think of a team for him to go to.

SPEAKER_02

Well, teams that are on the brink. I mean, like New Jersey's on the brink, but no, I can't see him going there. Um who else is uh on the brink? I can't think of anybody off the top of my head.

SPEAKER_05

I'm trying to put standings. Oh, let's see. I can see him going to I can see Detroit. Yeah, I would say Detroit. All right, and then Blake Coleman, left wing from the Calgary Flames, uh 4.9 million cap hit through next year, 10 team trade list, yay or nay? Nay. Where do you see him going? I say nay, and I for me if I'm saying no for the ducks, and if he does get traded, I'm thinking it's a reunion with the Tampa Bay Lightning. If they can make the money work.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, Tampa Bay is sitting in a really good position, man. Who'd have thought they would be the number one in the uh Atlantic? Yeah, I just I never never thought that.

SPEAKER_05

All right, let's see. All right, I'm gonna start going to the serious ones. Um Robert Thomas, yes, at a heartbeat. Um, but I don't see him getting traded.

SPEAKER_02

I don't either. I take him in a heartbeat, too.

SPEAKER_05

I don't know what we yeah, Vincent Trochek. A definite yes, definite yes for me. Yep. I I think that would be Vincent Trochek would be a great second to third line center for on our team.

SPEAKER_02

Ours too, yeah. We could move byfield if we had to, unless they're really believing in being a center.

SPEAKER_05

Steven Stamkos. And he does have a full no move clause, and he's signed through 27-28 at 8 million a year, right? At 8 million a year, he's 35 years old. No, I agreed, no, um, codry 35 years old, cap it through 28, 29, 13 team, no trade list.

SPEAKER_02

Another good face-off guy center. I I would think about it.

SPEAKER_05

I would think about it, but I think if he's he's going to Montreal, if anywhere, probably, yeah. Ryan O'Reilly, center, 34 years old, cap it through next year. Yes, four and a half million. Uh depends on the price.

SPEAKER_02

Well, yeah, well, uh obviously we don't have a ton of money to get, so but I would take somebody like him because he would be a better. We our best face-off guy is hurt right now, and he's Turkot. Yeah, copotar, I mean, is pretty good, but everybody else has been very subpar. Well, Ferrier is average at best. We need some guys that can win a face-off.

SPEAKER_05

All right, um, we'll do let's see. Here's a big one. Elias Peterson, 27 years old, 11.6 cap hit, full no move clause. No, no, no. What if you got Vancouver to retain some? Like not half, but some.

SPEAKER_02

See, the problem is, is what are we getting? We're getting that guy that looked like he was worth 11.whate five million dollars, or are we getting the guy that looks like he's worth two? Yeah, and that's why I mean it it's if you got him for retained and for hardly anything, maybe.

SPEAKER_05

I would give them like an okay prospect, third or fourth round pick. If we're not if we're not retaining anything, or like if we get the full hit, I would say we'll give you a medium to weak prospect, and you give us Pederson and uh and uh and a third round pick to help take off the cap hit. Like, because we're helping you take the cap hit off yours. But if you're if if they're gonna retain, I would give them like a B or C level prospect and a third or fourth round pick. Maybe I'm crazy, but I would give up the farm for EP40. We need a 1C, he's one season removed from 100 plus points, and only 27 on term through his prime. Also, knows Kempe and Kuzmenko score 40 playing with him. That is true. I mean, Kempe and Peterson are both Swedish, and he played and he played with Kuzmenko when Kuzmenko was uh up in Vancouver.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I I see that, Kevin. But I mean, you'd have to get some money retained for us to be able to even make that move. And if it was cheap enough, yes, but it would be a great take a great chance. I mean, it definitely would make us more talented. Whether we're gonna get that talent played out is what I'm concerned about. I am concerned about, you know, if you ever you've ever seen the movie replacements and Gene Hagman it gotta have heart. You gotta have heart. Pederson doesn't seem to have heart.

SPEAKER_05

I mean, does he not have heart just because of where he's playing? I mean, think about all the well, yeah. Vancouver is just a very, very, very hot mess. We we need Keanu Reeves at once. That's the best comment.

SPEAKER_00

At least he had a heart. At least he had a heart.

SPEAKER_05

That um, Kevin, that is the best comment I've ever seen. He also says, yeah, it would be definitely be a gamble. I mean, is he just not playing well just because Vancouver's a hot mess?

SPEAKER_02

I mean, because I mean see, that's that's what we don't know. We don't know what's inside his head.

SPEAKER_05

Maybe getting out of Vancouver might help.

SPEAKER_02

It might. And if we got a great deal, I'd be willing to make it if we got a great deal. I mean, yeah, you you talk about what's inside your head. Look at look at our ice skater. Yeah, I mean, number one in the world, and the pressure got to him, and he didn't even meddle.

SPEAKER_05

Which one?

SPEAKER_02

I mean, it's it's sad, but you know, it's a it's what you hope is it's a groin experience because we saw what happened with uh the the gymnast, and she came back at the last Olympics and did great.

SPEAKER_05

Wait, our skater didn't meddle? Which one? The Ilya Odd God guy, yeah. Oh, I didn't know that.

SPEAKER_02

That's yesterday, yesterday's news. Yeah, he fell twice, came in eighth.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, that's a bummer.

SPEAKER_02

No, he said it, you know, he said the pressure got to him. He wished they would have let him come the last Olympics when he was 17 and at least go and fail and see what the how it is, and then he would have had a better understanding. Now he probably will come back at 25 and be quad god again. Yeah, he's 21. He just turned 21 in December.

SPEAKER_05

All right, we'll do two more and then we'll get out of here. Okay, Charlie Coyle, center from the Columbus Columbus Blue Jackets, 5.25 cap hit, three team no trade lists, but he's also a pending UFA.

SPEAKER_02

Got him cheap, yes.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, um, I would say no for the ducks, just because I rather have this next person on the list. And I've you've heard me say future duck for this guy, you know who it is? No, Jordan Kairu, right wing of the St. Louis Blues, 27 years old, a 1.125 cap hit through 20 third uh 2030-31, no trade clause.

SPEAKER_02

Uh how much is the cap hit?

SPEAKER_05

8.125 million.

Playoff Seeding, Lottery, And Prospects

SPEAKER_02

Okay, I didn't hear the eight. I know you said 1.25. I'm going like, oh, that would be a duh. He's he's a head case from what I've heard, but he's talented and he's fast. You know, you got you you got the right deal. I'd take him.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. I would take him in a heartbeat. All right, so uh here's the group B final standings for men's hockey. Slovakia won the group, so they get a bye to the quarterfinals. Finland is number two, Sweden is three, and Italy is four.

SPEAKER_03

What?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. Really? Yeah, so Slovakia is automatically in the quarters. Um, Finland almost this this is what someone put on the on this group I'm in, the puck report. Finland almost certain to finish with the fourth and final bite of the cornerfinals based on goal to.

SPEAKER_02

So Sweden's out?

SPEAKER_05

No, nobody's out. Everyone makes the playoffs. So there's like a the top three teams in each group make it to the quarterfinal. And then the best second place team out of the groups. So whoever comes in second in each group, the best of those three will get the last spot in the quarterfinal. And then each rest of the teams will play like a playoffs and just to get to the quarterfinal spot.

SPEAKER_02

Oh. So some teams get to play a lot more games. Yes. So USA will be a quarter final, Canada will be a quarter finalist, and then what Slovakia?

SPEAKER_05

Slovakia is in the quarterfinal automatically.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, well, USA is probably gonna get there too.

SPEAKER_05

So get this on Puckpedia, they have a draft lottery simulator. And for fun, I was like, oh, here you go. It's it's like a wild card round.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. Um I did like a the draft simulator, so like it would do like random lottery balls for where you pick in the draft. So you could do the first lottery because that's the number one pick, and then the second lottery is you know to move up. So Vancouver has the best odds, and they won the first overall pick. And I ran the second lottery. Guess who won the second pick?

SPEAKER_00

The ducks.

SPEAKER_05

The ducks can't get the second pick. The best they could move is to fifth. The kings? The kings. They moved up eight spots to take the second overall pick. Oh, that would be awesome. Yeah, we need talent.

SPEAKER_06

You guys need a lot of things. Yeah. We do.

SPEAKER_05

The right hook, McKenna.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, well, I'm not even sure what has transpired with that.

SPEAKER_05

I haven't heard anything, but they're saying he played this weekend, so well, he might be going to jail.

SPEAKER_02

There was like a felony. Yeah. I heard 20 years ago.

SPEAKER_05

No, the felony, they took off the felony.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, did they? Yeah. Because he said something about his mom.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, we talked about it last week.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, well, okay.

SPEAKER_05

You don't pay attention. I forget. No. Yeah. Let's see. It says right here. Let's see, where is it? Um, prosecutors have dropped the felony aggravated assault charge against Gavin McKenna. The uh yeah, so there won't be the whole 20-year thing.

SPEAKER_02

Well, the nice thing is is that you know, whoever gets him he knows he can punch.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, he can he can hold himself.

SPEAKER_02

He like broke the guy's jaw pretty bad, from what I heard.

SPEAKER_05

I don't know. I I want to know how many punches were thrown. Was it just a one and done kind of thing?

SPEAKER_02

I'm not sure. Probably not. Probably not.

SPEAKER_05

I think it's time for us to get out of here. Okay. Before we get out. Happy birthday. Even though it's your birthday tomorrow. I just wanted to put that out there.

SPEAKER_02

I like it.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. I'll chalk it up to a mural combat. Um, yeah, you it's your birthday tomorrow, so happy early birthday. Thanks, son. Appreciate that. Um, but you want to add anything else before we get out of here?

SPEAKER_02

Uh I think we did it. We said it all.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. I mean, for not a lot of stuff to talk about, we still made it an hour and a half. Well, yeah. A lot of BS talking, but I liked it.

SPEAKER_01

It was fun. It went fast. Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

So I want to know what everyone thought about the our SoCal team.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that's curious what you think. What would you do? How would you change it?

SPEAKER_05

Oh, Deuce says, Happy birthday, God bless, and happy Valentine's Day, boys.

SPEAKER_02

Appreciate that. Appreciate that. Happy Valentine's Day to you too.

unknown

Yep.

SPEAKER_05

So happy Valentine's Day, everyone. Happy birthday, Dad. Thanks. Happy anniversary, Aunt Judy and Uncle Dennis. And you guys have fun at the the noodle bar.

SPEAKER_02

We're gonna miss you there.

SPEAKER_02

SPEAKER_05

SPEAKER_05

And our audio listeners, if you're listening to this later, thank you for listening to all this BS that we talked about today. It was a lot of fun BS, I will say that. No, there's technically two D's, isn't there? And noodle.

SPEAKER_02

N-O-O-D-L-E.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, so no U bar or U. I thought it was two D's for some reason.

SPEAKER_02

It's two O's.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I thought it was two D's for some reason. I don't know why. I'm tired.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Noodle bar. It's a Chinese place in Sobova. It's really good. You should go somewhere.

SPEAKER_05

It is very good. Um, but again, like I said, thank you everyone for tuning in to episode 100 of Royally Quacked. We wouldn't be here without any of you guys. We won't. Um, you know, if you guys are listening on audio, please head over to Twitch or YouTube and follow or subscribe. Comment on the video. Um, I actually that reminds me. We did actually have a comment on Spotify. Let me see if I can pull that up real quick. Actually, I just want, like I said, appreciate the comment when you guys comment. Let me try to find it. Hold on. The Spotify thing is taking forever to load. It was a good, it was a good comment. So, and I I know you'll appreciate the comment. All right, here it is. From Gregory uh Smaldino. Um, from night this was nine days ago. He says, Love the mention of church in the beginning. This is from episode 98. Uh, he said, love the mention of church in the beginning. I keep looking for an Anaheim Ducks podcast that's clean, uh, that's a clean end of good moral values. If it means I have to listen to Kings related content as well, then that's worth it. Let's go, ducks. So appreciate that. Yeah, appreciate that, Greg. I hope you're enjoying it. Um, for the comment. If we get more comments, I'll I'll read them on nuts from on Spotify. So um, thank you, Greg, for that. We appreciate it. Um, like I said, give us a rating and a review on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Like and subscribe on YouTube, follow us on Twitch like Kevin does, and you know, I guess what Adam does on YouTube, you know, subscribing, liking, and commenting. And you guys can always comment after the after the live too. If you guys have any uh comments, not you, Adam. You don't you don't count.

SPEAKER_02

Um he says he says you're special.

SPEAKER_05

I already know that. Thank you. Um, but like I said, thank you everyone. We really appreciate it, and I'm happy to hit the 100 mark. And uh I'm hoping we'll have some a lot more fun on the next hundred episodes. I plan on it. Yeah, I plan on hopefully hopefully we get to 200 uh pretty quickly and it goes just as fast as the first hundred did. Amen. So well, we'll see you guys next week for episode 101. And uh, I guess I'm I'm gonna change up my little ending. Uh, instead of saying let's go ducks, let's go USA.

SPEAKER_06

USA. USA. USA. We've been over Mr.

SPEAKER_05

But all right, everyone, thank you very much. Uh, and we'll see you guys next week. Go USA.
