Defining Trauma and Resilience:
Here we are looking at resilience as the result of a process of fully incarnating. Almost all of us have had what I'd call an interruption in the incarnational process. We are not fully embodied and not fully in contact with life. There is a gap between the place where we are currently hovering (soul partially out of body), and the fullness of direct experience awaiting us when we land further into the body and the moment (achieving union between Selves and dimensions). That gap (our partial self-absenting) makes us vulnerable to life's events because here we lack the embodied resilience to handle the high charge to the emotions and the nervous system that traumatic events bring. Finding resilience through deepening our incarnational process helps us heal from past trauma and become stronger to face the present and future. This is the spiritual path as a movement towards intimacy with life, rather than a distancing from it.
***
Spiritual resilience is the deep process of the soul fully entering the body (through spiritual practice, somatic healing, embodiment practices, etc). This is the process of embodiment which occurs through the completion of the incarnation process (some indigenous lineages relate this with soul retrieval). Deepening our incarnation (our embodiment) helps us with current difficulties and gives us the ultimate preventative protection from future trauma.

So when we don't feel capable of meeting the moment, the solution is not, i'm gonna build up tough skin. I'm gonna build up a capacity to fight. No, that's the wrong place of looking for power. The right place of looking for power is I'm gonna build up my inner reserves of energy. I'm gonna build up my capacity to feel myself on the inside and get used to being able to do that so that I can feel more and more and not be afraid of it, and not have my body get blown out by that. I'm going to learn how to make friends with my actual life. I'm gonna learn to want to be here. I'm gonna learn to truly value my incarnation. Welcome to the Ground of Love. I'm your host, Olivia Frazao. This is a podcast for people who are deeply dedicated to the spiritual journey. You are here for self-growth care, for others, and being of service to the world. This podcast is in service to you to help you remember who you are and why you are here, you will receive inspiration, clarity, and no BS Love. We are walking each other home. Let's begin. in this episode we are doing trauma and resilience part two. So here we go. resilience is the outcome, is the result of the incarnation process completing itself. Resilience is the result of a full incarnation and almost nobody is experiencing a full incarnation The soul completely and fully landing into the body, and there being a complete match between, let's say, who's in the container and the outline of the container. It's like, imagine your soul as what you would call like an air body, and let's say it, it doesn't, but let's say it has the same shape as a person, body, right? Arms and legs and whatever. does it fit in the container? Does it fit in your skin? Or is it like kind of flying a little out? In truth, we're more like a big orb, like a big spherical light. But you get my point. This is partially literal and partially metaphor, this whole explanation. Okay. I'm trying to give a a concept here through a little bit of visual so it can be a little easier to remember. So when we say be here now, what we are actually saying is, Hey, hey you, you who have the capacity to fly around the whole universe and drift across all the dimensions. Will you please come into this timespace location where your body is located, your physical human body, and be inside of it, and then relate from in there. You can still be infinite, but just make sure that while you're being infinite, also you're relating from in there. So that's like. You gotta get the bullseye. You're landing the spaceship on a very specific spot, which is inside the body. Imagine you're flying out in a million directions all over the place. Whoa, whoa. Wait, where's my body? Oh, uh, okay. Um, New York City, you know, this is my address, 10th floor of this building on the upper west side of Manhattan. And it's, uh, Wednesday, January 14th, um, 2024, 3:42 PM Oh, found the timespace location. Boom. Here I am. It's like that. So sure we can close our eyes and keep telling ourselves our geolocation and the date that can actually be helpful. But how are we really gonna do this? How are we gonna land into the body? How do we gain this capacity? How do we have this resilience? First of all, we need to want to, we need to want to be here. The reason most of us are not here, first of all, it's unconscious, but if we become conscious of it, the unconscious reason is'cause we don't want to'cause this stuff is hard. I'd rather kind of float a little bit out and kind of watch from the back. Uh, how's it going over there? Ooh, tough, good thing. I'm not fully feeling it but that doesn't work. We don't just get, we don't have a get outta jail free card. We don't have a hover outside of your incarnation and not have to deal with the consequences. Free card. We chose our incarnation for us to live it. Not anybody else. Not us later, us now. Otherwise, it's going to follow us around until we live it. That's what past life trauma is. Past life Karma, right? It's stuff that we didn't live in the moment. It's still here. We've gathered quite a list in our queue, so let's start living the here now. And start being present for whenever those triggers happened from the past. So we can start actually metabolizing all this stuff that's been waiting for us. Okay. Think about it this way. I'm explaining what I was talking about previously, but maybe it'll just be nice to have one extra metaphor. It's a little bit of a weird one, let's say the egoic self is like the skin of your body, okay? And let's say that your soul is the light that fills your body. On the inside. Okay. For this explanation, you're kind of like a hand puppet where the soul is the hand and the puppet is the human body, right? when, let's say a difficult event happens, this is so random, but let's say you have a small car accident on the street. Nobody's hurt, but the guy comes outta the car, comes up to you and is angry, okay? And about to have a fist fight with you. Who's here to react to that? To respond to that? Y you might get blown out. So you might get kind of blown out if you are not very present, if you're not very embodied. What that means is it's almost like the mask of you is there, having to respond with whatever the mask of you has, which is not much. Or if you're truly filled in, filled out. If you're truly full on the inside, that's where you're plugged into your own infinite voltage then there's something actually filling you on the inside. So before you were like a floppy puppet, there was nobody there. So that guy is gonna beat you up.'cause you don't know how to throw a punch. There's nobody in there. You're like, floppy. Right? That's what our culture is afraid of. Our culture is like, oh no, don't be a floppy puppet. Be a strong man. Right. That's why they say, don't cry, don't be scared, boys. Don't cry and then try to get you to toughen up. And then they like harden your puppet. You know, they, I don't know what's a metaphor here? They, give your puppet a sword and a shield. Okay. I dunno why I'm, I mean, a gun in this day and age, but I kind of like sword and shield. It's more archetypal. Right? And one of them is about attacking and the other one is about defending. So it kind of covers our, our bases here. So now in what our culture thinks resilience is, you're a puppet that's floppy with a sword and a shield, so nobody can see your floppiness.'cause they're like, whoa, there's a sword in my face and there's a shield covering up the floppiness so they can't really see behind it. Anyway, that is what a false sense of resilience is. That's what the archetype of the fighter is. That's what our society is trying to build people to be. That's not, that is nowhere near the answer. How successful is a floppy puppet with a sword and a shield gonna be? Well, it's hard to tell because everybody is floppy puppets out there. So what you're seeing in the world around you. Is there's either floppy puppets with no sword and shield or floppy puppets with a sword and shield. And if those are your two options, obviously the one with the sword and shield is gonna win. So in our society, it looks like being aggressive and being controlling all these hyper-masculine aspects they look quote unquote superior to whatever the hyper-feminine aspects are, which are considered weakness and a lack of capacity to defend oneself, right? Oh, you're just gonna get blown over, right? So people are like, toughen up because that looks like the better option out of the two. But both options suck. Both options are in a egoic self, a human self, which is the floppy puppet that is not being fueled by their soul strength. Right? Where did that go? We don't know. Right now it's a mystery. Our soul is like flying out in some other more preferable dimension, and our human is here. Trying to man the ship by itself hardly being able to and getting pummeled or trying to look tough when actually you're totally not. And everyone has the floppy puppet-ness inside of ourselves and we're scared to show it to the world. Oh no. What if the world knows I'm a floppy puppet? And that's the guy being like, oh, I can't cry in public. Right? What we perceive as weakness is certain difficult emotions that people are afraid of feeling because they think that by feeling those they're not gonna be able to wield their sword and shield, with as much agility as they would be able to if they were in a place of more mental and emotional hardness or numbness, So what they think is vulnerability, vulnerable emotion, or let's say more socially acceptable masculine emotion, all of those are, which emotions allow you to work your sword and shield in a more easeful way. That's all it has nothing to do with anything True weakness is not having access to our life force, when our soul is in our body, when we're fully here, when we're saying yes to life, when we're feeling ourselves somatically, when we're ready for the moment, when we've done all of the work that it takes to stay here, which I'll explain later. I know I haven't gotten there yet. Then we don't need this sword and the shield. We don't need those defenses that we learned for a false sense of toughness. Because we actually have our full life force. We are now plugged in to our true self. We're now plugged into our true wisdom, to our true compassion, to our true power, to our true energy. And this is not just a non-physical thing. This expresses itself physically. For example, since I was using a fist fight as an example, if you take a Tai chi master and put him up against any guy who does fist fighting, the Tai chi master is gonna win without even moving his body because of the energy that's emitting from his body. And that is a great coherence between one's inner energetic life force and one's capacity to emit it physically. That's a skill, obviously, but my point is the life force is stronger than any defendedness, any shield or sword that we think we need when we don't have our life force, and we're looking for power, but we're looking for it in the wrong place. So when we don't feel our life force, when we don't feel capable of meeting the moment, the solution is not, I'm gonna build up a defendedness. I'm gonna build up tough skin. I'm gonna learn to make friends with life itself. I'm gonna learn to truly value my incarnation. What are all these things? It's a shift in your mental lens towards wanting to be here, towards aligning our intention with life. Because remember I said most people, there's, at least subconsciously there's a part of us that doesn't want to be here because earth is fucking tough. It's scary, there's a lot of pain. So it's completely natural, completely understandable. We all do it and it's, it's, it's totally understandable. Of course, we wanna run away. Life Gets way too hard. The ironic thing though is in order to handle that stuff, we actually need to be here in order to handle it. It's worse when we're not fully here, actually. That's the irony, right? We try to protect ourselves by running away, but then it hurts more because we're not really here to truly presence and face what's needed. And so then we, we actually have less capacity. We get spun out, and then that time moment that we didn't fully metabolize follows us and we have to deal with it later anyway, which is obviously fine, right? There's an intelligence in that. There's a great intelligence in like, you know what? I need to defer this moment. Actually, I am gonna do it later, Some people choose to defer things on purpose. Hey teacher, can I get an extension on my term paper? I need to defer my capacity to do this in a certain timeframe, That's actually what trauma is. the intelligence of trauma. Is the body's capacity to defer living something to a later date. That's the, that's the gift of trauma. That's the gift. It's like, Hey, actually I can't do all of this now. And life goes, that's okay. We're gonna just hold this for you in your escrow, your life, escrow in your queue, and then we'll let it pop up at a time when maybe you're more available to fully metabolize this. Right? There's an intelligence to that. There's no judgment to that, but it's a tough way to live because the, we're always kind of experiencing pain and then trying to catch up with how to, you know, our past pain. So there's an alternative, which is this presence, which is what I'm calling spiritual resilience. Being here now and living through whatever it is here now. So the first step is our intention. It's actually, you have to want to be here. You can't try to do all of these things to be here if ultimately you don't actually want to be here. And I don't mean, you know, you wanna commit suicide, that too, we, we need to start there if that's where you're at. But for most people, they're like, no, I'm fine. Whatever. Right? They're, they're neither attempting suicide, nor are they like, oh my God, today was the other most amazing day of my life, just like yesterday and the day before and the day before, and tomorrow and the day after. There's somewhere in between. You're just kind of, you know, in a general kind of like negative five to plus five range, let's say. Or if you're lucky, maybe a zero to 10, if you're unlucky, maybe a negative 10 to zero. If you're really unlucky, then you're, having, a very traumatic life, fully down in the n negatives that are spinning you out all over the place that are very depressing, that are very tough, or it's forcing you into resilience.'cause your intention is there. You're like, I wanna be here. I'm doing this, I'm living this life. I have to live through this. I'm gonna survive. And that survival push, despite such a, a difficult overwhelm, it's gonna create an effect. It's, it's the, the match between a situation that you can't handle that's literally beyond your capacity to handle in the present moment, matched with the intention to come in further, to incarnate further to be here in order to meet that which is currently overwhelming will create. A new level of embodiment that will raise your capacity for resilience immensely quickly in comparison to what you used to be capable of. And that's what's called meeting the moment. There are reserves that come out of fucking nowhere when there's something inside of you that says, I'm gonna survive this or I'm gonna thrive through this. Whatever it is, that's what courage is. It's this momentum that goes, all of a sudden you are running at a certain pace in life with a certain charge, right? You're at your usual negative five to, to plus five, and then like a negative a hundred hits you right? Something way out of your range. And incoherence at a level of intensity that's way out of your range is blowing you out left and right. But. an intention comes that's so strong. It's basically going, it's like sounding a whistle. It's going, Hey soul, come over here. Now let's do this. It's like sounding the alarm bell the soul whooshes in. It's like, Right? That's simplistic. it's not as elegant in the moment, but there is something about choosing to be somewhere where you quote unquote can't be, but having to be there either out of choice or no choice at all. You have to live through this moment. Somehow something is gonna show up to, to fill that gap. Between the fact that you can't handle it and the fact that you have to be here anyway, that drive towards meeting the moment is an intention to drive a calling towards presence. Somebody is gonna show up so that that presence can happen. All of a sudden, your soul has incarnated into this moment to deal with this thing, and then tomorrow you're like, whoa, I'm really here. How did that happen? Oh, I was forced into the moment. I was called in I hard core. it's like a diamond being forged out of pressure. You got pressurized between a, a rock and a hard place between not being able to be here and having to be here. there's something about that that pressurizes your arrival. So that's the hard way of arriving. An easier way of arriving is preemptive. It's not in the moment of the greatest hardship. We are already blown out and you have to handle it anyway. It's preemptive. This is what I call peace time. So there are exercises that you can do that will increase your capacity without somehow just having to deal in a moment of emergency or, uh, extreme stress or unforeseen life events. And this is where we build certain capacities. Now, the capacities we build, we want them to be across the board. We want them to be physical health, mental health, emotional health, energetic fluency, and fluidity and strength and spiritual connection. So I'm gonna pause here. This is the end of part two. and next week we are going to do things that we can do to strengthen us and bring us true spiritual resilience thank you for being with me in The Ground of Love.
