Spiritual Awakening: The Ground of Love

Patriarchy and Spirituality: Healing into the Great Mother. (EP11)

OLIVIA FRAZAO

Inner healing as liberation from cultural conditioning. How do we heal from patriarchy, at the deepest level, and where do we arrive to on the other side of that healing? To heal the soul-body split of the patriarchy, we turn towards what we had once turned away from. As a result we land into the arms of the Great Mother, feminine wisdom, integration, embodied spirituality, and wholeness.

This episode can be listened to independently or after "Patriarchy and Spirituality: How Cultural Wounds Hijack Your Spiritual Path". That episode explains the wound, this one describes the return home.

If patriarchy's wounds are about an inner split where we turn away from half of ourselves and life (the feminine, painful emotion, embodiment, interbeing) and end up in our "castle in the sky" of disembodiment, hyper-intellectualization, and spiritual bypass, then healing from this mechanism is reversing that road back down to groundedness. We must pass through the chasm of pain that led us to dissociate out of wholeness in the first place. The only way to gain the capacity to face what we cannot face is to receive human and Divine support and gain self-healing skills. Through the crucible of re-embracing the aspects/experiences we had exiled, we can experience the beauty and power of the Divine Mother and Divine Feminine, realities of embrace, compassion, and wholeness.

It's the return. We had been lost in aloneness, and it is finally the return to intimacy. The return to togetherness, the return to wholeness and fullness and contact, and true relationship and true love. Not a part of love, but all of love. Welcome to the Ground of Love. I'm your host, Olivia Frazao. This is a podcast for people who are deeply dedicated to the spiritual journey. You are here for self-growth care, for others, and being of service to the world. This podcast is in service to you to help you remember who you are and why you are here, you will receive inspiration, clarity, and no BS Love. We are walking each other home. Let's begin. What the patriarchy has separated ourselves out from, is intimacy with ourselves, which is the soul back in the body, the intellect, friends with the emotion, the human as the child of Mother Earth, all of us together in intimacy and understanding and mutual support with each other. So in order to heal We can do that through a lot of different avenues and we can go direct. How do we go direct? We find the road that we had gotten on to get where we are now, and we literally just go backwards through it. So what's the road for those who didn't listen to the last episode? It is the Road of separation, by turning away from pain. It is the road that has led to. A dissociation and hyper intellectualization on the psychological level and to what we could call spiritual bypass or a separation between heaven and earth on the spiritual level, we are stuck in a false sense of control and in constantly feeling threatened by anything that would remove that sense of control. So how do we heal from all of this? How do we heal from all of this? We can do women's empowerment stuff protection of Mother Earth and we can do everything that we need to do, right? and within each of us is the hard work that nobody wants to do, which is bringing the soul back into the body completely, which is the complete harmony of soul and body. Which is the harmony of self with self, which is the harmony of ourselves with life. How do we create these harmonies? How do we bring back this intimacy? It's by closing the gap that had been created. Why was the gap there? It was a gap of fear. What do we need to face in order to close that gap? We need to face our fears. We need to meet our pain. This is how we heal from the patriarchy. So we're on our little castle in the sky. It's a house of cards. I called it a neighborhood or a kingdom before so that we can include more people.'cause it's our entire culture that's hanging out here. And it's the kingdom of the high intellect where we say yay to the mind and nay to the body, and to emotion and to physicality and to messiness. And to conflict and to everything that we're afraid of in earth life. And thus, we have also said no to Mother Earth and we have separated ourselves out of unpredictability and wildness, and we've also separated ourselves out from all possibility. We've also separated ourselves out from our true expression. We've also separated ourselves out from ultimately intimacy. So what has happened here, we are perpetuating, aloneness, this safety that we landed within as our temporary home that we don't realize is temporary.'cause we think this is all that exists. But if we look a little bit closely, it'll start revealing the cosmic joke that's happening here, the cultural BS that's happening here. There is no intimacy here because it is. Made of separation. It's made of turning away. Intimacy is about contact. Intimacy is about union. Intimacy is the opposite of turning away. It's the opposite of pick and choose. It's everything. That's why it's raw. That's why it's messy. That's why it's beautiful. That's why we all yearn for it, because it's wholeness. As long as we stay in this false sense of safety and control, we are foregoing wholeness and connection. And when I say forgoing wholeness and connection, I mean with ourselves, I mean with each other. I mean with divinity, however you call it. And I mean globally communally. And with Mother Earth, we're talking every level. You don't, there's no free pass here. You don't get to hide in avoidance and also have intimacy and connection and embodiment and belonging. There is an entire set of life circumstances that you have locked away as a trade off to hanging out in this intellectual castle in the sky, in this spiritual bypass in this. In this saran wrapped reality of trying to keep everything clean and tidy, that that means that you are foregoing the magical, wondrous, messy, sweaty miracles of life on the ground with bare feet and real hugs and tending to the earth, and getting caught in the rain and true love. This is where we're going. What is in between? This little cloud that you're sitting in with your perfect air conditioned home, and the actual ground, the actual land that's let's say a a thousand miles below, what's that gap that you are gonna fall through? There is suffering in between where you are and where you would need to be to be able to enter into our power. There is a suffering that hurts, that's scary and that we're all avoiding. This is the inevitable passageway. So now we're getting on the I'm Brave Bus, and we have two options here. We can either choose to drive ourselves down this route, or we're gonna get pushed down it, and it is the route of facing pain. That's what we're driving into. We're driving into everything that we put in the closet that we didn't want to deal with. We're driving into what you could call our subconscious cachet of pain that we now need to face and reconcile with. This is not fun for anyone, zero people. This is fun for. And if there are some people who think that, you know, darkness and shadow work are fun I'm talking worse than that. What I'm talking about here is facing what we can't handle. That's the oxymoron here. We are now about to face what we cannot face. That's why we were stuck, dissociated from it in the first place. There's no judgment here. We all do it because life is beyond what we can handle so much of the time. So this is why we dissociated in the first place. Not because we're lazy, but because there is a trauma field that we were never taught to handle our culture. Never. When we went to school, We learned calculus, we didn't learn. Here's how you breathe through high levels of emotional overwhelm. We didn't learn. Here's how to hold your center when there's really high levels of negative energy flowing through your field. So in order for us to make this trek, we need to learn how healing happens. We need to learn how to regulate our nervous system, and we need to learn how to find resource when we're starting to get overwhelmed. When we face this pain, whether life has blown it up in our face or whether we have been brave enough and have gotten enough support from other people to be able to choose to unpack some of what we've been carrying already when we are actually with it, and when we reach for the spiritual support necessary to get through it. We have just experienced ourselves doing the opposite of the original root of the wound. The original root of the wound was turning away the healing, the great healing that is now happening no matter what the pain is about, whether it's being abandoned or being betrayed, or feeling fear or feeling anger or feeling grief, it doesn't matter the story and it doesn't matter the emotion or the. Energetic frequency, it's all the same. The healing process is all the same for no matter what it is. It's the process of turning towards and the process of embracing in the heart what we had previously judged, feared, run away from and fought embracing in the heart means what being with, turning towards being with, and not only that, but allowing ourselves to be embraced in the great heart. So that we can actually have the capacity to do any of this in the first place. Feeling ourselves as the child of the great mother, father God, whatever you call that, whatever your way is, but feeling ourselves as smaller in the hands of that which is greater, and offering ourselves to be held and supported. There is literally no way to do this alone. That is the entire point. And why are most of us not doing this? Because most of us are still living within a cultural framework that has taught us that we are alone and thus we actually don't have the tools or the capacity to handle this. Literally because our culture has stripped us all from each other and from the divine left us feeling like we are the only game in town and like the little tiny person who has to figure everything out by ourselves, and we are not capable as a dissociated. Walking head with no body and no heart and no angels holding hands with us. We're incapable of doing anything in that state of total aloneness. And, being a fragment of ourselves and forgetting our embeddedness in greater connection, it's literally not possible. The only way through this and the only way to intimacy on the other side of it is finding intimacy within it. The path and the destination are the same. The path through the pain requires coming out of our aloneness. Healing cannot happen within a state of aloneness, aloneness, meaning thinking that we are the only ones around. I had said in, episode two when I talked about this idea of narcissism. What is narcissism? Ultimately, it's the misunderstanding that you are the only person that exists, that you are the only thing that exists. It is rooted in a very deep sense of aloneness. So this is coming up again here. The only way through the pain that we have not been able to handle is through connection and relationship. Our relationship with ourselves, our relationship with our emotions that are coming up, and so our capacity to hold ourselves. Or that which is within us and our relationship with that which is greater than us. That which is greater than us. So it could be our elders, our healers, our friends holding us, and more importantly even because a human cannot always give us what Infinity can give us, our relationship with divinity. Yeah, because sometimes the good news is not seen in physical form. Sometimes the support does not show up in physical form. So realistically, we need both. We need community. We need a real hug from a real human, and there is always support. No matter what. No matter what, you can be alone in the desert all by yourself, and you're not all by yourself. So we go for the human support and we go for the divine support. We do both. We can do this healing work when we are by ourselves in our house because we are never alone. We are held and we reach out and we support each other in community and friendship and family so that we can get through these things on a human level with human connection, both. It's both. So I'll go through in other episodes what this healing experience of integrating pain, and trauma can actually look like. But now we're going to the beautiful other side. There is a reality. There is a world that we all know viscerally deep inside of us, and that does exist still in certain communities where. What I'm now going to call the feminine and the masculine are in beautiful, pure expression and relationship with each other, where everything that I had said was judged before is now understood to be sacred. We have just made friends or even lovership with messiness, with tears and sweat and blood. We have now made friends with rain and mud. We have now made friends with crying, with wailing, with begging for help. We have now made friends with realizing that we must defer to greater cosmic authority because we are literally incapable of being in control of that, which was never ours to be in control of in the first place. So this is the human taking, our true place in the order of things. So we have fallen from our castle in the sky and we have landed in the arms of the mother. We are on the ground. We are swimming in the ocean. We are. With our hands in the dirt, we are with our forehead on the ground. We're bowing. We are in rawness and nakedness and wildness. And this is where True power is. And this is where True connection is. And this is where True Union is, and this is where true intimacy is. We're not hiding from anything. We're not fighting against anything. We are held within the Great Embrace and we are capable of a great embrace. There is nothing to shame. There is nothing to put a mask up for. You are no longer fighting life itself. Yes, boundaries still exists. Yes, discernment still exists, but you are living within life, not hovering outside of life. You have landed through the reality viscerally of deep suffering of terror and dread and despair. Of grief and sorrow of rage and helplessness. You have seen and felt those things, you're not throwing them onto everybody else in order to perpetuate trauma. You are being with them in a safe way, in a healing way. You have faced the truth, which is inescapable death. You have gone through the, the jaws of what everyone else is hovering, trying to get away from, but the jaws of what of life. This is life where we acknowledge and we don't run from, but we just acknowledge and just cry about how life is really effing hard. I, and when we all of a sudden are no longer tightening ourselves, we're no longer holding that massive wall, but we can find ourselves as raw. As real as no BS, vulnerably undefended. We can feel at that same time how we are so infinitely blessed. We can feel the open heart, we can feel intimacy because now we're exposed. We're not constantly covering ourselves. We're exposed. And because we have allowed ourselves to be exposed simply to what is true, simply to the truth that life contains everything we get to experience true intimacy, we have landed into intimacy itself, and thus we have landed into the arms of compassion and into our capacity. Not out of some exercise, not out of some intellectual understanding, but the direct, inevitable, raw, intimate capacity to see and understand and feel everything through the eyes of compassion. We are friends and lovers with life itself, with the body, with the land, with all of the trees talking to us. with Our highest angels with seeing the suffering of another person next to us, and not judging them, but being simply openheartedly available to them, being ourselves innocent, like young children, not naive or unable to protect ourselves, but innocent with an open heart, ready to love. And speaking of protection. We are now capable of standing up to anything because we're here, because we're in the body, because we're in our power. Running away and hiding in the intellect and hiding in spiritual bypass and living in a culture of patriarchy where we're afraid of messiness and where we hide behind giant walls and guns and bombs. What's the true power? Knowing how to experience high levels of energy in the body knowing how to hold rootedness so that we are life force itself in the body. It's not a warfare where we're sitting behind a screen pressing buttons for drones to explode. It's the capacity to be the spiritual warrior in confrontation. With life itself, with everything that life brings. Not to fight it but to be strong through it. Not to fight against life, but to fight for life where a wind blows and you are strong like a tree that is deeply rooted. So now, rather than hiding in your high floor apartment, in your air conditioning during the summer storm, you are the great redwood tree. High up into the sky with the heaven root deep down into the earth. With your earth roots strong in your central channel, stable and centered. Listening, belonging, embedded in life itself. So where did we start? We started in a superficial experience of life and of spirituality. Hyper intellectualized, often stuck in pettiness, unaware parts. A lot of fear and turning away from conflict, turning away from self-sacrifice, turning away from having to face what feels uncomfortable and using our spirituality as a way to. Do what's fun or do what feels magical or transcendent that will get us even further away from life's difficulties. So we are looking for solutions. We're intellectualizing, we're doing these exercises that are kind of dissociated from the rest of life, Instead we make friends with what we don't want to make friends with. That's the path. How do we do that? We notice how many friends we have taking us through it, including ourselves. The path is the destination, the path of intimacy, and knowing where we're going, knowing that every time we choose to face something that we don't want to face, greater connection is awaiting us, trusting that, and through the experience of doing it over and over again, having proof that that is true. I'm not saying any of this is easy. It's obviously the road of difficulty, which is why most people who say they are on a spiritual path don't really mean it because to be totally honest, and I wish this weren't true. This is an inevitable aspect of the spiritual path. If you're really dedicated, if you only want comfort, if you only wanna feel good about yourself, then yes, you can do the mindfulness meditations and you can go to yoga class and you can have a teacher or two who teaches you some basics about, you know, how to get through the easy stuff in life. But ultimately there are things that are going to go beyond our level of capacity and beyond our level of comfort. And when those things happen, we have a choice point. We can either go into our unintegrated parts and continue what the patriarchy has taught us, which is fight, flight, and freeze, and look down on the parts of ourselves that we don't know how to handle, and the parts of other people and of cultures that we don't know how to handle. Or we can put our grownup pants on. And we can do what we don't want to do. This is the truth of the dedicated spiritual path. It's about doing what we don't want to do. It's about purposely saying yes to difficulty. When it comes up in our inner being, rather than sensing, discomfort and running away, I don't mean going to look for trouble, but I mean, when something happens, not only looking at the surface level of it and making an excuse for it or brushing it off, or trying to have a surface level bandaid solution, but instead every discomfort, whether big or small, is an opportunity for us to look straight into the center of it and to find, to be totally honest. Our existential terror, our existential dread, the very, very deep stuff, knowing that through it, every time we clear and integrate something that deep, we get the best gift we have always wanted, which is even better than this false sense of control that our isolation has allowed us. But which itself is temporary. The gift that we get is the belonging, the embeddedness, the connection, the intimacy that we have always wanted. It's the real return. It's the return. We had been lost in aloneness, and it is finally the return to intimacy. The return to togetherness, the return to wholeness and fullness and contact, and true relationship and true love. Not a part of love, but all of love. That's what we get, and because of our courage and because of our pain, this compassion that we have landed into. Now holds so much capacity for us to help others because we know how to be embodied. We know how to bring people into their own power, their own deservingness, their own capacity. We know how to bring people into this humility in the face of that which is greater, so that they can feel and be held so that they can feel and be given that capacity and that grace and those blessings and that empowerment to be able to do what they need to do to face their own pains, to be in their own truth. To live life in harmony with all that is. So the more that we receive help from others to go through our own difficulties, and the more we're able to learn how to help ourselves, the more that we can help others, and then they can help themselves, and then they can help others. And eventually we can look around and see a world of togetherness, of connection, of intimacy, of compassion, of belonging. And of the true ground where we are held in the arms of the great mother The archetype of the mother field. This is the field of compassion, belonging, interconnection, and having a place, being in your place and knowing yourself. Feeling yourself viscerally in this embeddedness in the great order of things where you finally have a home. where we are home, thank you for being with me in The Ground of Love.
