From overcoming imposter syndrome to setting boundaries and prioritizing self-care , we're covering everything that helps you show up as your best self on and off the screen . Whether you're just starting out or leveling up , this space is for you . Let's get into it ,

Is My Creative Brain a Gift or a Burden?

Speaker 1

all right , y'all .

Speaker 1

So today I want to talk about having a creative brain yes , having a creative brain , and we want to talk about the strengths of having a creative brain and also the weaknesses of having a creative brain . And this is part of my six weeks to get to self sabotage course . So I'm not going to go like as deep at in this as I would in the course , but I wanted to give you a few things to like kind of think about .

Do I Have a Natural Superpower?

Speaker 1

First off , I want to talk about how having a creative brain is a superpower , and that's because it allows you to see possibilities where other people might see limitations . Creative thinkers are natural problem solvers . We're innovators . We're storytellers . We're also able to turn ideas into reality in a way that inspires and connects to people . Having a creative brain gives you the flexibility and the vision to grow and to adapt and to thrive to your ever-changing experiences and environment around you . It also gives you , like this cool ability to think outside the box , which , as creatives , our brains are the coolest thing . They're the coolest thing about us . I have eight ways that a brain is a superpower , but I just want to go through like two or three of them today and let me know what you guys think in the comments about how you relate to these .

Speaker 1

First of all , I want to talk about emotional intelligence and self-expression . Creative people tend to be like deep feelers and deep thinkers . I could even give you just an example of that in my life , when I listen to music , it's I have to be careful what type of genre of music I listen to , because some genres leave me feeling a very specific way and others also leave me feeling a very specific way , and so if I listen to too much music that has the emotes , the feeling of like bringing you down or sad or is angry , I end up like in that state of whatever emotion the music is bringing to me . It's like very deep . This also happens to me , too , when I'm watching television , so I have to be really careful what I put in front of myself . I really do like deeply feel what the people on the screen are going through . And the amazing thing about having that like level of emotional intelligence and deep feelings is that we can usually express ourselves in ways that help us or the other person process emotion and communicate effectively and connect with others on like this deeper , really meaningful level . We also have this problem solving crazy ability to create .

Speaker 1

People with creative brains also can seek solutions where others might see roadblocks , which is another phrase for thinking outside the box . Right , if you can think outside the box , you can connect ideas in multiple ways and find innovative solutions to challenges , whether that's challenges in your career or your relationship or your daily life . We usually have like this amazing ability to problem solve situations and come up with a really cool , adaptable ways to respond . And then the other cool thing about us creative brain people is that we have like endless ideas of possibilities and innovations . I notice this in myself all the time that I'm like oh , I could start a social media page for this or for that or for this . I have like 16 different social media pages in my head that that are all like things that I think would be amazing ideas we're not generally following like the path , the same path as everybody else . Having a creative brain helps you see , like these endless amount of possibilities and options you might have , and it really helps you create new opportunities and new ways to reinvent yourself and build trust . That is like super exciting and build a life that like is exciting and powerful and rooted in confidence and just overall creative and well-structured for something that works for you . So that's how having a creative brain is your biggest asset if you're a really passionate person and really excited about what you do , and it also helps you navigate your life with some curiosity right and resilience and the ability to turn these creative ideas in our heads into a reality .

Speaker 1

Having a creative brain is a huge , huge , huge , huge superpower ,

The Kryptonite... DUN DUN DUUUUNNNN!

Speaker 1

but , like any superpower , it also has some challenges , right , if you have a creative brain . Here's some ways that you might also experience having a creative brain in a not so positive way . The first thing goes along with kind of the first story that we talked about was having emotional sensitivity , where I'm talking about , if I listen to a different type of music or something that's angry or fearful or scary , that I can put myself in that scared space Like having that sort of emotional intensity is not always the best right , especially when we're still learning about ourselves and learning what suits us best and what helps us best . You know , we might be engaging in some sort of television show or style of music or any sort of self-expression that isn't working with us and we don't even know it's affecting us . And because of that a lot of creatives also end up with , you know , anxiety and might feel burnt out or have mood swings .

Speaker 1

Here's another one that also goes hand in hand with having a strength is idea overload and lack of execution . So having too many ideas can also be like just as paralyzing as having none . So many creatives struggle with following through because they're chasing like every new concept that comes into their head . So learning how to balance what is actually something that's important to me . Even though I have all these ideas , what is the one that I'm going to execute , what's the one that gets me to the next step of where I want to go , is really very important .

Speaker 1

And then , lastly , I want to talk about another thing that goes hand in hand with the strength , and that's overthinking and mental overload . Even though we can see creative solutions to problems , we might be able to think outside the box , because our creative minds are always generating new ideas and new scenarios and new possibilities , and that's great for problem solving , it also can lead us down a path where we're overthinking and we're stuck in analysis , paralysis , and we're having difficulty actually making decisions because we're overthinking the decisions that we make even after we've made them , or before we've made them , or during making them , or all the time . All of the above Mental overload is another way , and overthinking is another way that we might experience our creative brain overcompensating . So here , what's important ? Here , here's our takeaways .

Speaker 1

While having a creative

Power Dynamics to the Rescue!!!

Speaker 1

brain is like this incredible superpower , it's an incredible gift , learning how to manage your creative brain is just as important . Right , we want to find ways that we can balance structure with freedom , ways that we can be disciplined and also be spontaneous and have fun , and ways that we can pair inspiration with execution . Right , so that we can help maximize our creativity without getting burnt out on the self-doubt and the self-criticism , the fear of failure , the fear of success , the self-sabotage , all of those things . As I said before , this is part of my six-week Stick to Self-Sabotage course , but I thought this was an important topic to have a podcast episode on where we could talk like a little bit more intricately about what having a creative brain really means and how having a creative brain can get you to the next level of your career that you want to get at and how it can also hold you back from getting to that next level in your career . Because we want to keep going up and you know what .

Speaker 1

The important thing here is awareness . Awareness that we are doing these things , that this is the way our creative brain works and the way our creative brain affects us in our day-to-day is the only way that we can inflict change . It's the only way that we can inflict change on our circumstance so that we can get to that next level . So we're not getting there and sabotaging and getting there and sabotaging . We want to get there and be excited that we got there and then make the next ladder rung like , plan what our next ladder rung is going to be and then hit that next ladder rung and then stay there . We don't want to keep taking steps back down the ladder . We want to keep going up and up and up .

Speaker 1

So I hope this

Until Next Time

episode was helpful . I hope you learned something about how your brain works , about how your creativity is a superpower , about how you can use your brain to get you to the next level .
