Education Rankings By State
SPEAKER_031988. So a couple weeks ago we talked about the sodas that were the most popular by state around the country. So I I must have it just now shows up in my fees with things like this. I got one this past week that was the most and least educated states in America.
SPEAKER_01Oh my goodness. Sorry.
SPEAKER_03I was happy to see that Virginia was number seven out of fifty. And I'm like, okay, that makes me feel good. But if you just hop right next to West Virginia, they're number 50.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_03I mean, it just yeah, look go across the Appalachian Mountains and you're go from smart to not.
SPEAKER_05I thought, you know, I thought Arkansas was 50 at one point, but evidently they've been working really hard on their education.
SPEAKER_03Arkansas was 47. All right. So they were down there. They're down there. Louisiana 48 and Mississippi 49. Those were the those were the bottom.
SPEAKER_05Is the most educated like Massachusetts or something?
SPEAKER_03Yes, Massachusetts was number one. Okay. Vermont was number two. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05I can see that.

SPEAKER_03If you guess something like that, no, Rhode Island's like 13th. Oh wow. Delaware's 14th, New Jersey's sixth. Wow. Uh New Hampshire was eighth, Maine was twelve, New York City, or New York State was 16, Pennsylvania 20, uh, Ohio 35, which I again, why I was shocked that Virginia was seven, because it was like, I mean, Virginia seven, Maryland's three.
SPEAKER_05I mean, that was like that's pretty much there's some crazy people in Ohio. There are no offense to the Ohioans.

SPEAKER_05But start paying attention to some of the crazy stories coming out of Ohio.

SPEAKER_03North Dakota and South Dakota were 28 and 33. Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_03Yeah. Oh, uh fifth was Colorado. Oh my god. That was the only low number out in the Midwest.

SPEAKER_03Yeah. Oklahoma just north was 45. But Kansas was 24. And yeah, Nevada. Right in the middle.
SPEAKER_01What do we got? Alaska and Hawaii.
SPEAKER_03Alaska was 36 and Hawaii was 23. Oh, okay. Well there you go. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05I wonder, do you think it's because the education on the East Coast is based in British pedagogy? Possibly.
SPEAKER_03And so it's just because it does seem that way, because like yeah, Massachusetts, Vermont, like that down the East Coast. 13 colonies kind of stuff. Yeah, New Jersey was sixth. Yeah. I mean, because what Princeton's in New Jersey, right? Yeah.
SPEAKER_05They've got the Ivies.
SPEAKER_03Right, exactly. That's probably why.
SPEAKER_05And people go to the Ivies and then they just stay there.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_05And so then they're just automatically.
SPEAKER_03So yeah, between basically like Washington, DC up to Boston is pretty pretty solid. I am. I'm very proud of us. Where do you live? Excuse me, 41. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05I was educated in Virginia.
SPEAKER_01Okay. That is true. We'll give you that.
SPEAKER_05Our schooling was I educated my children in Virginia. That's true. Texas is just an anomaly. I haven't left my mark there yet.
SPEAKER_01You weren't always 41, I can tell you that.
Reality TV Reunion Hot Takes
SPEAKER_03Cool. Um, did you Oanne, did you watch the hairy reunion?
SPEAKER_05No, I'm watching it tomorrow night with my daughter.
SPEAKER_03My God. I cannot really wait.
SPEAKER_05She begged me not to watch it until she was an extra.
SPEAKER_03You should have watched it by now. Oh no, really. Okay, all I'll have to wait till next week. All I will say is she fucking lays into him.
SPEAKER_05Well, I'm not surprised.
SPEAKER_03And it is fantastic.
SPEAKER_05Wow. I'm gonna say this without having seen it. Frankly deserves it.
SPEAKER_03Absolutely, he fucking deserves it. And there's a couple, there was only one woman out of the 20 that didn't come back for the reunion show. Oh, really? And I forget what her name was, and the you'll see it when you watch it. And uh, but there were a couple other girls on the couch that all basically was on the same thing where I was saying were like, Yeah, you give this total womanizer a house of 20 beautiful women, and he's like to pick his wife. Yeah, exactly. What the fuck? But then on the other hand, they knew the show and they knew what they signed up for. Right.
SPEAKER_05So they knew exactly that that's what it was, but they're sitting on the couch sour grapes, and I'm like some of them told him they didn't know who he was, and they didn't know that he was gonna be the guy. And he was saying on one of the podcasts, he's like, it's called Let's Marry Harry.
SPEAKER_06Right.
SPEAKER_05Like, and not to be you know full of himself or anything, but you don't know who Harry Jowsey is.
SPEAKER_03Right. And like are you a 20-year-old.
SPEAKER_05Right, exactly. And so he's like, they all lied, they all knew who I was, but he said he has like a group chat with some of them.
SPEAKER_03Um, he was still on good terms, yeah, with some of the women on the couch.
SPEAKER_05Dennell, he said.
SPEAKER_03Uh that that really wasn't when you get into that tomorrow, you are gonna be uh for a ride. Anyway, so I I thought the Let's Marry Hair Reunion was way better than the show itself. Okay Excellent. Because again, she lays into him and doesn't hold back. And I'm like, yes.
SPEAKER_05I'm interested to see. I have to finish Married at First Sight because of Let's Pick Nick. So I have to see what went down.
SPEAKER_03I went and looked Nick up because from that picture I didn't recognize him. But then when I went and pulled up a perfect match, I was like, oh Nick, right. Okay, I remember Nick, yeah, because he was, you know, okay.
SPEAKER_05And did did you watch The Circle? Have you ever watched the circle?
SPEAKER_03I watched the only season of the circle that I watched had Chloe Veach on it because I love Chloe. And that was the only season I watched of it.
SPEAKER_05You should watch it with Nick, he's really good.
SPEAKER_03Okay. It's it's a really good show.
SPEAKER_05But yeah, so I'm like, it'll be interesting because he's definitely the opposite of Harry.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Yeah, definitely.
SPEAKER_01Oh, it'll be a different show completely.
SPEAKER_03Well, same but still.
SPEAKER_05But this will be like the fourth, the third let's find someone to marry him show.

SPEAKER_03Did you guys watch Big Brother this week?
Big Brother Medieval Cliffhanger Rant
SPEAKER_05I got all the way up to the anniversary episode.
SPEAKER_03So you haven't watched Sunday night show yet? No. Because I have a rant about Sunday night show. Well, let's let's go for it. Yeah. So she's not gonna watch it. At the they they opted to do this like medieval times challenge thing on in the the live camp turned off streams went off Thursday night after the show and weren't supposed to be back on until Sunday night after it aired.
SPEAKER_06Right.
SPEAKER_03They shot all night long, and there was reports that you know Josh, who you know previously won Big Brother, he was there as one of like you know, the kings or whatever, and like he wasn't he didn't leave the CBS lot until like you know 5 30 in the morning or something like that, and they shot all night long to do this whole thing.
SPEAKER_06Right.
SPEAKER_03So then they air and they've been built they Julie built it up on Thursday night and this whole thing and blah blah blah, and then you get to Sunday night and you watch, and they leave you with a cliffhanger of still not knowing who left the house because they ran out of fucking time.
SPEAKER_06Are you kidding me?
SPEAKER_03They've had 90 minute episodes all summer long, and then Sunday night was just a 60-minute episode, and they couldn't cram it all into one fucking because there's still going to be an HOH comp, a veto, uh-huh, and yeah, and a blockbuster before this Thursday. So it's a double eviction week. Oh wow, and they still didn't wrap up what happened, and we still don't know who got evicted. Now, I could go online and find out because the thing is they turned the live feeds back on on Saturday night because they realized they couldn't get it all in one episode, and they're like, we can't keep the live feeds down until Wednesday. Right.
SPEAKER_05So it's purely an editing. Absolutely. It wasn't like because Sunday's not live.
SPEAKER_03Right. Right, exactly. And now we have to wait till Wednesday to see who gets evicted and then still go through the HOH and the veto and the you know nominations and all that. And it's just like that's ridiculous. There's a woman online on came on my Instagram feed, and she was just going off on this rant, and I'm like, you say it, sister, because it was like she was she was like, CBS, you screwed up with this one, and oh my god, big pair of the fans are pissed, and you know, it's just like you couldn't squeeze that off.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, so what did they put in on Sunday? What was so much more important?
SPEAKER_03I it was the whole competition that they were that they were doing because there's several rounds to it, and then they didn't have enough to show the last round of what happened. So we're you have to wait till Wednesday and let some of that out. I mean, some of that had to seriously because they do that on game shows, right?
SPEAKER_05It's like parts that weren't important.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, when Steve Harvey goes off off script and he starts laughing about something, and like yeah, those starting. Those outtakes are actually really funny to see him go off on stuff. The eyeballs because like the the answer will be so stupid, and he's just like, Are you kidding me?
SPEAKER_00You telling me you go to the store to buy pajama bottoms. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05I did enjoy Thursday night's episode with all the old it was nice to see.
SPEAKER_03So when they did the Alliance one, like who was your favorite all-time alliance? Of course, the first one to my head was Cook Out, and then the Hitman.
SPEAKER_05Yes, the Hitman.
SPEAKER_03Because I st I still think Derek Lavassar is the best player to ever play the game. He really Father Dan is a very close second. And the fact that they gave him best, you know, or favorite, you know, person who ever won it, you know, they gave it it was between him and and Derek. But Derek, I think, is still the smartest and best player to ever play the game.
SPEAKER_05I was sitting there and I'm like, these people were so good. And when was the last time we had someone that good? Like any of them.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. And the fact that the fact that Janelle, Janelle has competed on the show four times and never won. I didn't know that. I mean, that the whole reason the the phrase comp beast was coined was because of her.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Yeah. Yep.
SPEAKER_03So and it but it was nice to see Janelle. I know because I saw her on Amazing Race a couple years ago. Her and Britney did it together and stuff. So that was yeah.
SPEAKER_05And all the romances.
SPEAKER_03All the romances, exactly.
SPEAKER_01So we're at nine members now. Is that where we're at still? Oh gosh.
SPEAKER_03At nine people? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because this jury will be so who's in who's left?
SPEAKER_03Who's in the middle of the year? We don't know. We don't know jury yet because we still don't know who got eliminated from the medieval times. We don't know yet because they haven't finished the medieval times elimination yet. And then they're gonna do the next HOH and nominations.
SPEAKER_05Well, we know that the survivors are safe.
SPEAKER_03This week. This week. And I do know that Barrett is still safe and still in the house because I I came across that in my feeds and I was like, no, I don't want to know. And it was like, you know, I'm like, he's Barrett just said this. And I was like, oh what? Oh, okay. So Barrett's still in the house. Yeah, so he wasn't.

SPEAKER_03Devons, Lala Taylor, uh Josh, Drew, Melody, and who am I forgetting? That's eight. I'm missing somebody.

Wedding Travel And Chicken Sitting

SPEAKER_05She's a cute little girl named Anna, and she's a freshman at the local university.

SPEAKER_05And she and her brother have a pet sitting company together where they're from, which I forget where it is, but it's not near me. But that she came for school. Oh. And she sits for outside pets and inside pets.

SPEAKER_05So Jasper has been very well loved, and the chickens have been.
SPEAKER_01I could have plugged their company, but you don't know what it's called.

Corrections And Classic TV Memories

Um that the show Angie was not a spin-off of anything. Right. It was actually um a Gary Marshall who wrote Lavona Laverne and Shirley and other you know famous sitcoms. He wrote it, it was a one-off on its own. It was not a you know uh yeah, from any any other thing, but they said it compared to Rhoda, and which is funny because that's what I said. I was like, oh, it's just off of Rhoda. Yeah. And it but it they said it was the same setup where it's a woman with her, you know, that's you know, eth ethnic ethnic t can you say Ethnicity? Ethnicity, yes. Oh my god. I was trying to say ethnic ticticity or something. I don't know what I was trying to say. There you go. Don't earn yourself. I right, exactly. Um, anyway, and then yeah, it set in that type of you know setting, which they said was very similar to Rhoda. I was like, all right, cool. I got I at least was in the the wheelhouse of uh so Angie was not a spinoff.

SPEAKER_03Oh, and by the way, I did go back and I've watched the first 10 episodes of season one of Taxi.
SPEAKER_01Of Taxi. Of Taxi Heroes. I went back and started watching.
SPEAKER_03It was amazed out of those ten episodes. Probably eight of them I solidly remember watching. Like, yeah, like you can And there there was even a scene in one of them that came back, and I was like, I remember as a kid laughing at that bit so hard because I thought it was hysterical. When we were like seven, yeah. Well, I watched their reruns. Okay, it was the episode where Lotka is about to get deported. Right, and Louis comes out and he's just and Lotka won't talk to him because he turned him into the the the IR, not the IR, the uh immigration people. And so Lotka wouldn't talk to him, and he just stood there going, Lodka, Lotka, Lotka, Lotka, Lotka, Lodka, Lodka, Lodka, Lodka, Lodka, Lodka, Lodka, Lodka, Lodka, Lodka. And he kept going and going, like just when he thought he'd finally stop, he's like, Lotka, Lodka, Lodka. And I just remember as a kid laughing at that so hard. And I was like, that is so funny.
SPEAKER_01I remember uh one scene where Jim had to take a driving test. Okay. And he and he didn't know the answer to something, and they were trying to help him get through the test. Right. And he he asked the question, he goes, What does yellow mean in in the stoplight? And they kept telling him slow down, and he would read it slower and slower. I remember that. And they were just I swear it was pretty good.
SPEAKER_03And did you know that he wasn't in the cast from the beginning? Oh, really? He came in in like episode seven or so because Lotka. Oh, it was that same episode because Lotka then uh Alex introduces Lotka to a hooker to marry so he can get his visa to stay in the country, and then she immediately has to go off to her next, you know, like I got I got a 330, I gotta get out of here, you know. And Jim was the Reverend who married them from the local bar down the street because um Jeff Conway's character goes, Oh, let me go, oh yeah, for Reverend Reverend Jim, he's down at the you know, the bar. Let me go see if he's available. Nice. And that's when they bring his character in, and like his character was so Christopher Lloyd was so great at it, that's when they brought him back then as a regular cast member, but he wasn't in the cast from the beginning. So oh, good times. Back to 1978. Sorry, sorry. We're in 88, 88. We're back to 88. So oh, what other questions did you have?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, um, the Air Florida crash, uh, which was horrible. Um it happened in 82. 82, January of 82, uh freezing temperatures. Um Paula Gretzky is a prominent uh influencer with over a million followers. Oh, okay. And it's very important, supposedly. That would be a good idea. In the influencer world. Don't I've never seen any of her videos. I know what she looks like in stuff because she yeah, they always show him with her. So yeah.

SPEAKER_01Yeah, you had to get them or like the you had to leave the middle mode. Yeah, there was a game, certain games you had to match up. Yeah. Um, and then um you did mention this, but the village people, right? The policeman was the only street uh get out with that. He was the only one, yes. Oh my gosh.

1988 Snacks That Took Over
SPEAKER_03right. Let's jump into 1988. Not 1978, because now we've talked about that. 78 has like a part one and a part two now.
SPEAKER_01Right, right. We're well into our uh teen years at this point.
SPEAKER_03Okay, so my first topic in 1988 is food. Food. And I mean, there were some like there were some big hitters that year. Really? So one of the biggest ones was Teddy Grams.
SPEAKER_01Oh no, really. Teddy Graham.
SPEAKER_03And Nebisco launched these bear-shaped graham crackers in 1988 in honey, cinnamon, and chocolate flavors.
SPEAKER_01And they've been cinnamon without apple.
SPEAKER_03In cinnamon without apple. Yeah, the honey. Yeah, but that's a graham cracker. Yeah. And I mean when my kids were little, oh my god, yeah. The the honey grams, I mean, that was snack time. Like, yeah, a little baggy honey crazy. Wow, they always came in chunks, didn't they?
SPEAKER_01I mean, I don't think I ever found one whole. I was always cracking.
SPEAKER_03I don't know what your mom was doing to your teddy before. But they were shipping it.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I didn't always have them when I was 18. That was when I was a kid.
SPEAKER_03So also that year, uh now a staple is Cool Ranch Doritos.
SPEAKER_01Oh, those started in 88.

SPEAKER_03He in his vault at Paisley Park Studios, he has enough music that was recorded and ready to be released so he could release a full album every year for the next 30 years. Jesus.

SPEAKER_03This was recorded by him. And well, there was a thing that came out today. Hold on, let me get to that. So this album is a compilation of songs from different eras of his career. So like he the first one Ride for the Bat sounds like you know 1978, and then he's got another one that was from like 91, like you know, the Diamonds and Pearls era, and then he's got another song. So it's it's 12 or 11 or 12 songs, and they're all from different eras of his songs that didn't make that album kind of thing. Right. Like the B size.
SPEAKER_01That was number 13 out of the 12 track uh album.
SPEAKER_03And and believe me, by by the second song, I was like, oh my god, I miss Prince so much because he I've I was always a huge Prince fan, and just I I saw him like four or five times live, and like just always was a Prince fan. And so to hear like this unreleased material that was just like to hear songs that like have been in his vault, and it was just like oh so good. I listened to it twice on my own.

SPEAKER_03So one of the songs apparently it came out today that there was a um horn player, a sax player, who said he recorded the saxophone parts for that song, like just you know, five or six months ago, like in a basement recording studio. Don't know if that's been verified yet, but that but people are being like, wait a second, these are supposed to all be songs that like Prince because Prince was notorious for playing every instrument and doing you know, recording it, engineering it all himself. Right. And so they went in and apparently there's a guy that played some horn saxophone to add on to the song. The stuff the bass song is still Prince, right?
SPEAKER_05Right, but just to you know, so I don't know, but they're they're still that'll be interesting to see like was it did something get corrupt in the original recording and they had to redo the saxophone?

Cold Cases Solved By DNA

Murder, murder, killing murder, murder, killing murder, red rum, red rum. There we go. So notable, notable 1988 murder cases. There was nothing super huge that year, anything that you would go like, oh right, but I did find find a couple. There was the Lori Ann Powell, the Colonial Parkway murders. She was an 18-year-old who disappeared in Gloucester County, Virginia in March of 88, and her body was later found in a river. Advanced DNA testing officially linked the serial killer Alan Wilmer Sr. to her murder. Oh. It's amazing how like that when when these things didn't happen, they didn't have the DNA technology, but then did and then were able to find out who did it. I that that I think is just you know my.
SPEAKER_05I never heard of that serial killer. I must deep dive now.

SPEAKER_03And then there's another one coming up too, which is two. So then Diane Matthews cold case, Diane Matthews was murdered at her workplace in Orlando, Florida in 1988. Decades later, again, DNA from the scene was matched to a guy named Willie Carpenter. Oh my gosh. And it led to his arrest by U.S. Marshals in North Carolina. Years later, because the DNA thing finally went there.

And to protect him, the next day they shipped him off to relatives away from there. So he was not available for questioning. He was not available for any fingerprinting for any of that stuff. And it's been a cold case for all these years, but the inner circle of police officers were like, Oh, it was the little brother with autism who didn't know what he was doing.

SPEAKER_03And for his and like it's just been like this, you know, unknown case for you know who did what, what, and there's been theories and all the stuff, and it's just like, but that's what happened. It's a good idea. They protected the younger brother because the younger brother wouldn't have survived if he had been put in jail.

And the universe, in its wisdom, recreated the earth and everybody's consciousness was put back on earth. And that's why we have deja vu and all these other things that occur to us.

So Cropsi started as a myth, became a reality. Or did he know about the myth and became the reality? Who knows?

Uh came back and killed her uh after having some kind of back and forth relationship. Um, then uh Heather O'Rourke, who died of a misdiagnosed Crohn's disease. She passed away. Um, Julian Beck, who he was the evil preacher, but he was in Poltergeist 2. Oh, okay. Um, he was the evil preacher. He passed away. He was decapitated by a cab. Yes, yes, taxi. It was taxi. It was on the movie on the show Taxi. And then uh Will Sampson, who played the Native American shaman in the second one, he actually passed away uh from a he was on the surgery table from a heart transplant, heart lung transplant.

Imported Candy Taste Test And Pickle Surprise
SPEAKER_03this week. Oh my goodness, Joanne. I forgot because Joanne is in town and I spent $35 on candies because somebody couldn't spend $9 on some gummies. So I spent $33 on imported candy. These are candies that you would normally that you can't get here in the store in the US.

SPEAKER_03The the first thing are called pods, and one of them is a Snickers pod and one is a Twix pod.

SPEAKER_03And we can't get these here. Why can't we get these here? These are Australian. Oh, sweet mother. Oh my god, those look good. Australian. So well these these were these were $12 a bag. So just so you know.
