Carlos Oba - Empowering Rural Africa Through Digital Opportunities
In episode 25, Ian and Frankie interview Carlos Oba, founder and CEO of Dots for Inc. As an attendee of Network X they discuss his mission to bridge the digital divide in Africa by providing rural communities with access to the digital economy. He explains how his organisation builds digital infrastructure, offers smartphones, and connects villagers to gig economy opportunities, ultimately aiming to improve their income and quality of life. Carlos shares his personal journey, the challenges faced in implementing this model and his vision for the future, emphasising the importance of community and sustainable development.
Carlos Oba is the Founder and CEO of Dots for Inc. With extensive experience in global business development, he has worked across Africa, Southeast Asia, the United States and Europe, including roles at Amazon.com. At Amazon, he contributed to enhancing sales and production efficiency. As an executive at a Japanese media startup, he achieved profitability within the first year of operations in Thailand and Indonesia. Carlos also led the launch of a Bike Taxi Hire service at a Japanese startup focused on Africa. He holds an MBA from the University of California, San Diego, and is a seasoned traveller, having visited nearly 100 countries.
