SPEAKER_03

Hey guys, welcome back. Uh Tells from an Airport Bar, episode 24, and we have an amazing guest for you today, as always. I wanted to say I'm Chris, and this is my buddy Blake. We've been doing um we've been we've been creating these stories together for the last 10 years behind the same bar. And um we just I want to start by giving it a couple shout-outs to some regulars of ours. Uh Olivia, thanks for coming in. And um, she's pushing us to take this to YouTube. Appreciate that. And then um uh our Tabasco, our Tabasco lady, Casey, thank you for always hooking it up and uh taking care of everybody with Tabascos and all kinds of crazy flavors of Tabascos. Um it's awesome. I love it. I got the cayenne something, something habanero. Uh I I couldn't find the habanero. Guess where it was? Bailey took it home.

SPEAKER_04

But if anybody was gonna get it, Bailey, it's okay.

SPEAKER_03

I got the new garlic cayenne, and it's it's amazing. Okay. Oh, yes, Cody. RIP. Um, and then I wanted to say thanks, Danielle. Um thank you, Danielle. That I always call Denise when she comes in and she never corrects me. Um she's uh she's from my hometown, OKC.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

Lizo’s Rise Through Airport Jobs

SPEAKER_03

Um boomer. And um yeah. Let's go. Uh this week we have um a good friend of ours that we worked with at our cantina uh coming on the show today. Lizo, welcome to the show. Thanks for coming on. Thanks for having me. Thanks for having me. Thanks for being here. Um want to start out by asking you how did you get into this? And you know, just where are you from? Um what's going on, man?

SPEAKER_01

Well, how you been? Oh, blessing, blessing. Well, I'm originally from South Dallas, and it's crazy, it's crazy how I got on. Because when I first got on, I was picking up trash. Like I was picking up trash at the airport six days a week. And like you said, Katina, Katina, that was the first place. You know what I'm saying? I used to go pick up trash there. And they was like, You want a second job? And I was like, Yeah, and I started as a busser. And I just worked my way up from a buster to grab and go to host to waiter to bartender. And yeah, I stayed there for some years, got fired, got into it with management. You know, me and management don't get along for nothing. Got fired, left, started driving trucks for a while, ran into um, what's her name? Stephanie.

SPEAKER_05

Yep.

SPEAKER_01

Ran into Stephanie and stuff. And she was like, You should come back. And I was like, you know that that goes every bad. And she was like, No, I was under different people now. And I'm like, What? I don't even remember. Yeah, I was like, oh yeah, say Liz. And she got me in there like that. Like, okay. Yeah, you know, about that industry, is like once you know somebody, a couple of people in the industry, it's you always have a job. You always have a job. You know what I'm saying? You can Google what you know sometimes. It's who you know, it's straight who you know. You can Google a million people, a million places, put in a thousand applications. You won't get a call back. You know one person.

SPEAKER_05

That's it. And you don't even need an application. You watch the end, they say, Hey, you want to start tomorrow? Cool.

Clashing With Management At Work

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, like let's go. Can you bash because we at the airport, so can you bas a background check? I already got the badge. Let's go. Yeah, like oh, yeah, I've been bad before. Oh, say less. It's gonna be less than two weeks. Move you in fast. Then um, after that, you know, we got that one manager who I don't like. Can I say his name? I don't care. You can't whoop me.

SPEAKER_03

You can say his first name.

SPEAKER_01

Robert. You understand? Can't stand that motherfucker.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, why is that, sir?

SPEAKER_01

You understand? Cause like uh, he knows, you know what I'm saying? Like, he one of them. He one of them. He's if you ain't his type, he ain't rocking with you. Really, if you don't kiss his ass. You know what I'm saying? If you don't bow down to him.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's how that goes sometimes.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, then he got short person syndrome. You already know he's like five foot four. If you stand over him, like, because one thing about me, I'm not finna look down at you while you're talking shit to me.

SPEAKER_00

You know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_01

Like, I refuse to do his other look ahead and stuff. And um, one time he told me he'll like, see, a real man look a man in his eye when you're talking to him, and I was like, Well, show me a real man, I look him in the eye.

SPEAKER_00

That's all it did. Yeah, so you know, my days were counted after that.

SPEAKER_03

What did you uh tell me real quick though? Like, um, I know you bartended for that company. Where did you bartend? Uh, or like what kind of concept did you bartend?

SPEAKER_01

It was they had me down at the little uh they little other standalone bar. Little kiosk. Yeah, little kiosk. Yeah, it was a little extension where you by yourself and stuff. Drinks and hot dogs. Yeah, and I ain't gonna lie, I liked it because I had to deal with all the different personality from different coworkers. You got your fun like I ain't gonna lie, I'm not just saying this because y'all here breezy, you one of a kind.

SPEAKER_02

And well, thank you, sir. Yeah, and it takes one to know one, Lisa.

SPEAKER_01

I just want to know when I'm gonna get my DVD back.

SPEAKER_02

What DVD?

SPEAKER_01

See what I'm saying? Well, you know, if y'all only know exactly don't ask him about a lighter. I will look where is my lighter?

SPEAKER_03

Hold on, I will look in this one drawer and see if I I will go by Trader Joe's not Trader Joe's, uh what's the movie trading company?

SPEAKER_01

You go I already bought it like two times already. It's just the fact that he was like, Yeah, you bring it right back. Yeah, I just I'm gonna wait real. I just want him to tell you I ain't gonna get it back. And I'm okay with it. It's fine, it's fine. Me, Scoozie. You can blake you about that life. Y'all know I stay in O'Cliff, y'all both the men in my house after dark, not during the daytime. Yes. Yeah, I don't know. Oakliff, that's my hood. Nice for real, bro. We're like right after work, we'll just confuse uh Lizo.

SPEAKER_03

I think not not to be confused with Bishop Barts.

COVID Airport Madness And To Go Rules

SPEAKER_01

Oh no, not Bishop Arts. I I sick go there. I love Bishop Arts for my cigar shop, but no, I'm talking about like I'm talking about Illinois and 35, like yeah, I'm talking about South Oak Cliff, like right down the street from South Oak Cliff House. Yeah, right down the street in the midway point between both of them.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, so it was like so bartending at that little uh satellite bar. Um tell me about it. Uh, you know, I know you had some crazy bro.

SPEAKER_01

I had some crazy times because when I got down there, it was right before COVID. Okay. So then most of my experience was there like after COVID. So I got to see people going out there with the full body mask on. I seen this one dude get arrested. Like he they pulled them off the plane. Now, y'all know down there in that little area, the police really don't go down there. Yeah, you know what I'm saying? They go down there smiling, they're gonna call them. It's nothing going on, it's just yeah, it's the 30s, it's just a couple of gates. This one day I'm chilling. I see four police officers with AR-15s walking down there in units with their hands on their stuff. I'm like, oh shit, somebody's finna go to jail. You know what I'm saying? Working go to jail, yeah. Federal property. Let's go. And I'm not gonna lie, this one I was like, man, white girls are crazy. No, I'm gonna be 100 with you because a black woman would never, bro. Like, listen to me. This white dude was he was tripping, you know what I'm saying? He cussing out the police and stuff like that. He's mad because he gotta wear a mask. You know what I'm saying? And she like, you gonna get a stranded down here, don't do it. You know what I'm saying? I'm gonna be 100. I won't even be mad at my woman. My mommy would have called my mama and be like, hey, your son just down here, he's tripping. I'm going home. You feel what I'm saying? But she stayed with him side by side, because he was like, fuck this, fuck this. And then he took off his mask and threw it in the earth. It was a wrap. They don't had to put him in a handcuff, put him down, and he screamed, I'm like, Oh yeah, you you tripping. I was like, oh no, that's too much loacy right there. I wouldn't gone. I would have been gone. Oh, baby, all right, I don't want you. I'm calling your mama, I'm gonna say bell money. I'm not gonna get she's like, You gonna get us stranded down here. They got stranded down here.

SPEAKER_05

So you're about to wait two days to get out.

SPEAKER_01

Oh man, and then the rules we had in place, because that's the only time the bar would let them take the drinks to go. Yes, that's when it got crazy. But you couldn't drink it in front of me. So when you order your drink, yeah, when you order your drink, you had to wait for me to give you the change and take two steps back. Yeah, before you get it, drink it somewhere else. Yeah, you have to at least take two steps away from me before you're allowed to drink your drink.

SPEAKER_04

It was weird.

SPEAKER_01

You could drink it anywhere but here, anywhere but here. And after I give you your change, you gotta at least take two steps back, and then you're allowed to. But while I'm giving you a two, like you can't drink it right there. No, you can't do that. And you're trying to explain that to customers who had to buy a bag of chips just to get the two drinks anyway. Yeah. Because it wasn't like they should be a little bit more than a lot of people with the alcohol. Yeah, it's like if it was a regular bar, you could just sit down and drink. But right then and there, and bro, like, oh man, I had to resell chips like crazy. People just buy the chips to be like, man, we're gonna fuck about that. Like, I don't want it. You want them? I was like, no, you gotta take them. And you never like make me type shit. I've got my drinks now, bro. Like you pay for them.

SPEAKER_05

You're not gonna make me take them.

SPEAKER_01

I don't want to. Um, but also, too, I ain't gonna lie, you get in trouble down there because I refuse to sell uh a lady with four kids a$20 cold sandwich that was halfway, the bread was already like nasty.

SPEAKER_04

I'm not gonna sell this to you. I don't feel right selling this to you.

SPEAKER_01

I can eat it free and I still wouldn't get it. You feel what I'm saying? And I would tell them, like, ma'am, like go to a restaurant, they can only go 10% out of market value. Go to McDonald's, get some chicken nuggets. You know what I'm saying? You can go get two 20-piece chicken nuggets and everybody's gonna be happy. But you already right here, you don't got three chill, you done got three sandwiches and one drink, and you already at like 50 bucks because you don't know how expensive this stuff is here. And you got all these kids to feed, and I'm not finna let you do that. You know what I'm saying? Like, I'm like, man, ma'am, no. If you buy yourself and you got money, like, you know, the ones that all the I'm gonna let you spend all the money you want to. But someone like that, like, man, don't do this. I neah, and they be like, no, it's for the sale, bro. Y'all make enough money. Chill out. You know what I'm saying? I see the overprice y'all charging these people. I'm not gonna let no certain people. Like, if I see an older lady too and stuff like that, like, ma'am, you I I'll grow up with my granny. I'm a granny baby. I'm not gonna let somebody else granny over. These airport prints. Yeah, like, ma'am, don't do this. Like, I tell them, like, it's like you're talking somebody off a ledge. Yeah, you don't want to do these. You know what I'm saying? Like, oh fucking tacos.

SPEAKER_03

Um, what about some of the uh celebrity interactions?

SPEAKER_01

My favorite encountered. My favorite celebrity interaction has to be hand down sin bed.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. I got to I had actually ran into him as a kid at the mall in Oklahoma City when I was like, I don't know, about 11, 12.

SPEAKER_01

Bro, I still got the picture on Facebook. Um he came to Cantina. And the crazy part, you know, usually at the time I was a host. You know what I'm saying? And we usually don't let people come in, but it was at the end of the night and stuff, they just came for Wing Stop and it's Sinbad. You're like Sinbad, you're like where you want to sit? Like, no, I grew up watching you like um House Guest. House Guest, one of my favorites. I feel what I'm saying, one of my favorites. It's House Guest and First Kids. Them two right there, hands down. I watched them back to back, and then you got Jingle out of the way. He was in Conehead, like I grew up with Sinbad.

SPEAKER_03

Wasn't he in um House Party?

SPEAKER_01

He was, he was a one that like he had the little cameos and stuff like that. He had the little side plays, and like I was like, Man, I'm a big fan. Like, man, you can see her. Can I get a it was like so cool. We talked, he was like, he said himself that um first kill was one of the favorite movies he ever did. Like I love that movie too. He said he had a lot of fun doing that. That was like one of his favorite. I was like, bro, that was my favorite movie to watch, like growing up. Like I still have to watch House Guest once a year, at least. You feel what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_03

I actually saw Jingle All the Way. I actually saw Jingle All the Way for the first time, probably like two years ago. I was like, okay. Well, how did I miss the golden one? Like Emmy on a sporting. I'm on it. I'm on it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that's the that's the Christmas classic. That's like one of the Christmas movies I gotta watch. It was um you said you did not care for Emmy Smith. But I already had like I was chill mode with Emmy. I got a funny story, I can't remember the mansion name, but I got a funny story about that Emmy Smith because I was the host then, and I already heard all these stories about Emmy Smith. He, you feel what I'm saying? And he really, you can tell by his demeanor. So when he came in, I was like, hey, how you doing? I know who you were, I know how you like to rock or I gotta tape and set it up for you in the back where you can be by yourself. And he was like, okay, you bet. So I go put him by yourself and stuff like that. And it's probably how I became a waiter, too. So um, I can't remember what manager we had at the time, but it was a Mexican manager, you know what I'm saying? And he was a big, he was a big cowboy fan. Okay. And me and him hated each other. Like I even told him, if I ever see you outside of work, you'll probably see.

SPEAKER_03

You are a Ravens fan.

Celebrity Run Ins At The Terminal

SPEAKER_01

Baltimore Ravens. Yes. Hands down. Ed Reed is my favorite player of all time. Ed Reed's such a fan. Love him, hands it down. So I go tell the manager, like, hey, don't go crazy, but Emmy Smith is here. He'll like, where like right over there, and stuff like that. So he'll like, hey, tell him besides the drink, I'll buy his food for him, but I can't pay for the drinks. But the food I got him. I said, okay, bet. So I go tell him this, that, and the third. And then towards the end, I ask him, Emmy Smith, like, hey, is it okay? Because my manager, he's a big fan of yours, this, that and a third. Can my manager meet you? He'll like, yeah, I ain't got no problem with that. So I go tell my manager to come here, I introduce him and stuff like that. Manager thrill. You know what I'm saying? After that, I'm his best friend. Like, like, I think like a couple of weeks later, I became a waiter. Like, swear to God, bro, I can't make this up.

SPEAKER_04

What section do you want?

SPEAKER_01

No, bro, we hated each other guts before that and stuff like that. But like, I know, like, and then he showed me how he got a picture with him and stuff, but then I seen he had already walked by and took like some pictures without in this middle of no one, bro. I said, I was like, and people always think they're sneaky when they're doing that, but they never are, bro. You see where he took the picture, but you can tell he done shared the picture with like 20 different people on his messenger and stuff like that. It was like so you run into anybody else out there? Um, believe it or not, I ran into RG3, he's real cool. Yeah, but but this was this was right before he injured himself, though. You know what I'm saying? So this was before I even worked with y'all. It's when I was at um cleaning up and stuff. I ran, I got to take a picture with him. Um, also, too, I ran into Andre, um, DeAndre Hopkins.

SPEAKER_06

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Nice. Nice guy. Very cool. Okay, so y'all see how big my hands is? I'm 6'2. You see, I got big hands, right? This is his hands compared to mine. Yeah. And we're the same height, though. No, like we're literally the same height.

SPEAKER_04

When you saw him in that mouse against the Packers.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, like he shook my hands, his hands came like this. Yep.

SPEAKER_04

Like that's like what everybody says about Adrian Peterson. You go to shake his hand, his whole hand like that. No shit.

SPEAKER_01

That Adrian Peterson and you are. His hands is unreal. We the same. We're both 6'2. He's like like 6'4, 6'5, but bro, his hands is like, this is his hands over mine. Like, I don't know what's going on with that, bro. Like, that's it. Fight that drop the ball. Yeah. And like he was sitting there chilling. It's all like, bro, I'm a big fan. I ain't want to make a scene or nothing like that. And I started talking about his stats, so he said I was a fan. And let me take a picture, let me take a video with him. Like, yeah, he was he was a cool one. I met a couple of other people. I met this one that I can't remember his name, but I know him growing up because he always played the bad guy. I'm trying to remember what movies.

SPEAKER_04

You don't know the name. It's like I always know you're a bad dude.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but I grew up watching you, but you you were the bad. I I follow him on Instagram and stuff.

SPEAKER_03

Uh what movies? Do you remember? Bro, by chance? No.

SPEAKER_01

But I can know his face because he played in TV shows and everything. He bro, he's the white dude. He got he's a white dude. He got the like the clear white hair.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, looks like me.

SPEAKER_01

He got he got the like the clear baby blue eyes. That no, I agree. He's older and stuff. He always plays a bad guy.

Sports Bar Life Pay And Benefits

SPEAKER_03

Oh, yeah, you know. Hmm. Good. Who knows? Um uh so you are working currently at a sports bar.

SPEAKER_01

I'm at a sports bar right now. I'm at a sports bar.

SPEAKER_02

You're at the DF Dub?

SPEAKER_01

I'm at the D. I'm back at the DL Dub. Um, shout out to my boy Chase, because he got me back on. I took a two and a half year hiatus. I got it. My old roommate Chase? Yeah, your old roommate Chase. It's crazy how we all know each other. Like a guy said hello next time you see him. I got you. You know what I'm saying? Like, I don't know what's going on with y'all. But I gotcha. I gotcha. Chase is Chase is my dog, bro. He came through for me. Because I was chilling in the warehouse. I was like, because you get fed up with the airport and you're mentally stressed. Sometimes you just gotta take a break. Yeah, sometimes you gotta take a break. Like sparn out.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It's and it's a mixture, but a lot of the times it has to do with management. Because if you if you're good at what you do, the money you make there, management hate the fact that you make more than them and you do less work.

SPEAKER_02

Look at this guy. 24 years later. I'm really gonna just shoot myself. Yeah, no.

SPEAKER_01

A lot of times you just gotta sit back and think about the money you make and be like, it's not worth it. You just gotta think about the end.

SPEAKER_04

The end of it is the money in your pocket.

SPEAKER_01

Because you get caught up here, then you go back to a nine to five from getting paid by the album. You're like, what the fuck was I thinking?

SPEAKER_03

Yes. You know, I got kids. My album was quite. I got a lot of kids to feed.

SPEAKER_01

So like, no, like I ain't trying to be funny. What's which I brag on in a week, but I can make that in a day or two. Like, literally, which I'll go. I'm not trying to brag, or I'm just being so serious.

SPEAKER_04

So and that's why they get upset sometimes, which is not our fault.

SPEAKER_01

Not our problem. And you got to deal with them, then nobody talks to you and stuff, and you're already dealing with crazy customers of all different races and stuff like that, and you can't. Which they could never do all day.

SPEAKER_05

That's what I tell them about that. I'm like, you want to go eat shit from these guys all day and take a job out here, and keep a smile on your face and be like, I don't think you could do it.

SPEAKER_01

And it's like, bro, you know you want to talk to me like that in public. Like, if you were to see me at the store, you'd probably be scared I'll try to rob you or something. You know what I'm saying? Like so, but at the airport, like they just they they're bold with it and stuff like that. And you'd be like, bro, I want to shove your face into that taco.

SPEAKER_04

Go home and dream of this.

SPEAKER_03

Man uh at your current at your current place, you don't serve food.

SPEAKER_01

We do, we but it's like up there, I ain't gonna lie, I love it. Fuck Katana, you feel what I'm saying? I like 88. We call it 88, you know what I'm saying? Yeah, 88 is the truth. There's like I love it there, but it's it's beautiful. Like, I ain't even gotta change my own kids. Yeah, it's weird to have support. That's what I'm saying. Like, no, no, the managers is like, and then the crazy part is they talk shit about each other, but they're way better than the manager I don't have to deal with. Like they help out, like they actually manage, yeah. If you if you be like they're gonna come drop off the food and stuff like that, like without no hesitation, like you'll see them out there helping busting tables and stuff like that. You don't have to screen black. No, I they're not like gone for hours. Bro, I got a shift lead, I got a shift lead to be in the back cooking and washing dishes. Right. I love it. Like on the line, like facilitating whatever they need. Because we like a little small area, so I'll so I'll we're a small sports bar. You know what I'm saying? Sundays you can't serve alcohol.

SPEAKER_03

How many people fit at your bar?

SPEAKER_01

22.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

It's 22. Then we got a um we got a 12 station patio. Oh, okay. But if you work the patio, you still aborting because you still make the drinks. Yeah, cocktail. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, it's cocktail style. You still bust, so no nobody pays a percentage. We ain't got no hosts, no bus. We do everything. You smell payout. Exactly. Exactly. Don't but we do get on checks. Our credit cards is on check, but I can't lie. I like it that way because we got benefits.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I got 401k, Medicaid, you know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_06

Oh, nice.

SPEAKER_01

You know what I'm saying? And I got free. Um, I'm sorry, where I'm at, bro. We booze you up there. We got free health. Um, like you said. You are getting 213 an hour though, correct? 250? Quick playing. Oh, yeah, that's what I said. I'm just right. I'm just fine because you know your favorite paycheck come on.

SPEAKER_03

And I know you come on paper. Lizo, I know you got your 25k tax credit for being a uh uh being a service industry.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, you know what I'm saying? Thank you, Trump, for that. Like, I don't care what nobody says because he put that into motion because I got time to pay taxes. I don't care what like so worst part of the job is paying the taxes. Trust me, and then your first year, you don't know. Okay, you know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_04

Like you find it out quick.

SPEAKER_01

You find out your first you're not ready for it because if like it changes your life. From waiting a check, waiting to get a check every week to like, I'm talking about even when I was waiting table, it was like$150,$300 days.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And you come home with that every day.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

You know what I'm saying? Exactly. It was like three to five, six. You know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_02

Like we'll tell everybody what they make it.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, they gotta first off, first off, it's not like outside bartender. Y'all move too slow, y'all wouldn't make it. The way y'all move, you gotta be fast on your pace. A lot of volume. You feel a lot of volume.

SPEAKER_04

Better have a fire under your ass and move it. Because what was that? Um people have to get out quick.

SPEAKER_01

At the little kiosk, there was a 15 table plus four, there was 15 board seating, plus you had four tables and you're by yourself.

SPEAKER_03

Lizo, why do you think Blake and I are skinny fat? That's what I tell everybody.

Cutoffs To Go Cups And Airport Risks

SPEAKER_01

Every day is leg day. Like, so all y'all think it is. I walked 16 miles today. I see y'all take five minutes on a drink. That could never, bro. You got people want more teeny. Margaritas old-fashion, then you probably got three to make. And I'm talking about then they want the fresh squeeze juice, lime juice. So your pre-game and your post-game is everything. Ball is life. You feel what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_04

Like I juice a box of limes by hand. Every day.

SPEAKER_01

And the prices they're paying on these, they want they still their way. You feel what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_05

And if you want to get paid at the end, you better give it to them.

SPEAKER_03

Well, and they're paying those airport prices, and they expect you know the expectation is high, sir.

SPEAKER_01

And the cutoff game is crazy.

SPEAKER_06

Yep.

SPEAKER_01

Lisa. Because you gotta cut a lot of them tilts. You gotta say, fuck them. It's not worth it. Lizo, they just want to see you dance. Man. And I and I ain't and I got a bad knee.

SPEAKER_05

Some people expect to get mad about that. Can I have one more? I'm like, if you want to pay my bills for the rest of my life, let's go.

SPEAKER_01

Let's go. You feel what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_05

Otherwise, I gotta come back tomorrow.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and I'm sorry, ain't nobody like, bro, you gotta understand because they bar hop up there. It's not like outside up there, the bars are right down the right down there.

SPEAKER_04

And they've been flying all day, too.

SPEAKER_01

So they got delays and stuff. Like, I got a tip off of not serving a dude.

SPEAKER_03

He came in. I was a server. You know what? The best, some of the best tips we get are when we have to cut them off. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

The dude came in, Trump. Humble. Humble him. He was like, Can I have a margarita? I was like, How you doing today? He was like, Ain't this uh messing on restaurant? I'm like, Yeah, he's like, Can I get a margarita? I was like, Look like he had enough. I'm gonna get you started off with some water. We got some wonderful nachos.

SPEAKER_02

Let's get some food.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, he was, yeah, yeah, give me that, give me that. He took a couple of bites, came back. I needed that. How did you know? Sir, it's my job, right? Like you can see it in your eyes. Yeah. I know some people who can't go back to the bar because the police looking for them. Y'all know the same people. No, we didn't serve them. No, not at our bar. Check their receipt. Man, and them police don't play because it's the same police. They know you. It's the same police working the same.

SPEAKER_03

Now, okay, I will ask you this, Lisa. So we have uh thanks to Spencer. Um shout out, Spencer. Dirty MF. Um, that's my brother. Um that's who I was talking about.

SPEAKER_04

So four drink minimum.

SPEAKER_03

Four drink minimum, four drink minimum and maximum minimum.

SPEAKER_01

True. Maximum.

SPEAKER_03

No more than no drinks. Minimum and maximum, yes. Um, but no, and then to-go cups. Do you guys do to-go cups over there?

The BB Gun Security Scare

SPEAKER_01

I was don't have no lids on them, and that's a tricky, that's a tricky, that's a that's a slippery slope. Because you turn your back, they be gone. Because they be like, Can I get a glass of water? Even if you fill it up, you'll look up and they'll put it in an empty cup. You already know what's gonna happen. So it's just like we don't do it. You feel what I'm saying? Like I kind of do it. We're not allowed to, yeah. You feel what I'm saying? But when you first start off, you really don't know. So you kind of just being nice and stuff. They done tip you a good tip and stuff like that. Cause some people, some people use pickups. You know what I'm saying? Please get a cup of ice. You know what I'm saying? Or they'd be like, Can I get a spic-up? They have the stuff right there, but then you look up and they still gone and they gone. You're like, oh it's like, you bitch. You know what I'm saying? Because the wrong person see that and they trade back there. Yeah, and then it's not just you losing your job, it's you you losing your privileges at the airport.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah, federal property quick.

SPEAKER_01

I know a dude, I know a dude, because I used to also work at Wednesdays. You know what I'm saying? Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Oh my.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Yeah. In Terminal A. You know what I'm saying? Oh, what'd you do for them? Uh I I weighted tables. You can't board stand there. Like, they fuck them. Yeah, I mean, I have never been around so many depressed people that weighted tables before, bro. It's like this. That's just, yeah, it's depressing. It's always Monday. I was like, damn, ain't she happy about this?

SPEAKER_05

Like, are we going to a funeral or are we going to work? What are we doing, guys?

SPEAKER_01

Um, I know this one bartender, I don't know, the story goes because him and his wife both worked there, but somehow the BB gun got in his backpack. Oh boy. And it made it through security. Oh boy. Yes.

SPEAKER_05

Even worse. Wow.

SPEAKER_01

So, yeah, that was the worst ever because I'm talking about it was like eight police in front of TJ Fridays with AR-15s, and they got a dude with a backpack that has something on it walking straight towards me because it's the way it's shaped, the bar is right here. When you see, bro, I let out the biggest part when he walked past me. It's a bad timing, sir. Bro, I'm talking about shitless. I'm serious, no, you shit your pants. Yeah, like bro, I'm talking about because it's like we make okay. He's walking directly because I'm trying to type in the order. I forget what I'm typing in and everything. I'm like, nigga, I forget my Bruno Mills up, nigga. The fuck? I always check myself while I go in here. I'll throw my whole, I don't care if I just bought a three-five, I forgot, I'm gonna throw it out. Um, it's not worth it, bro. No, and so he hit that point and went past me, and I'm like, oh shit. And they were like, You got your bare pack? And the dude went for it, they was like, Don't touch it. And they went for he had a BB gun and stuff like that, so the whole commotion about it. So at first that was cool about it. They let me go put it in the car and everything. You know what I'm saying? Then he came back, but I guess they had to save face because they later make it in. About 30 minutes later, they come back.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I was like, Oh boy, yeah, you know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_01

30 minutes late, come back. Oh, yeah, your band. I think he got like a five or 10 year band from the airport.

SPEAKER_05

What happened to the TSA agent that let it go?

SPEAKER_01

Who knows? All I know is ever since then, because him and his wife both worked there and stuff. She'd been like since then she was working double shields all the way till I left. And he was a bartender. Yeah. So it wasn't serving, it was bartender money. That money back, yeah. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, yeah. So I was like, it was a rumor about me going around from Wednesdays. I got in two with a manager, so they said I got fired because I choked out of manager.

SPEAKER_03

Oh.

SPEAKER_01

So I found out why it was hard for you.

Rumors Getting Fired And Bouncing Back

SPEAKER_03

You know, I found out why Lisa, I find that um every good uh all rumors start with a little bit of the truth. But I didn't.

SPEAKER_01

Waiting to get twisted up. Tell us your version of the story. I will tell y'all my version of the story, bro. Like, no, literally, like, we didn't like each other because I used to call him Peter the pedophile. You know how I'm gonna. Pete Pablo? Yeah, Peter the pedophile, like to the face. And like, if we if I'm talking about him to somebody and he walked by, I'm gonna continue talking. You know what I'm saying? He was one of them lazy managers that when everybody else thinks, he goes straight to the room and hide and play video games on his phone and keep you open after you don't lose checking nothing out. Yeah, and he like he basically says since I gotta be here, this like y'all gotta be here too. Like, yeah, he won them. So we never got, we always got into it and stuff like that. And bro, we literally bumped into each other. Like, you know, we it's crowded there, we bump into each other. I swear to God, we both look at each other like, oh shit, my bad. And gone about our business.

SPEAKER_06

That's it.

SPEAKER_01

And it happens sometimes. And like, yeah, oh like it's very small, tight quarters. And you're moving quick, you got shit to do. It just happens sometimes. And it was like 20 minutes later, they called me back. I get called back, hey, he said you assaulting him. I'm like, bro, what? Like, we got cameras and shit like that. You watch that? Let's pull it up. We go through this, and like I ain't gonna lie, I hate I hate people lying on me. Everybody knows, like, you know what I feel? I'm not trying to make no, you feel what I'm saying? Off of Sabbath, I'm gonna black people. You say something like that, you're like, don't lie on me. I get in trouble for I didn't got in trouble for that stuff, I go ham over that stuff. So I was like, bro, stop lying and stuff like that. So I was like, you know what? I'm just gonna go home. You know what I'm saying? That was on a Wednesday. So Friday, they had me come up there for a meeting, the general manager and stuff like that. And we have a talk about it and everything. So he said you gotta let me go. He even tried to give me on their papasitos, and I was like, you know what? Fuck this airport shit. Cause I already don't like because first off, I ain't even got no car right now. I'm on the train at the time, and y'all keep making me um shift lead. So you know, shift lead is I'm the last person after this beach.

SPEAKER_04

I gotta stop at a certain time. Thank you. And everybody else got cars and stuff like that.

SPEAKER_01

And I gotta make sure everybody else did their job and stuff like that. And I'm like, they were like, but no, we got you on a free meal, and it's like, fuck that. I get free meals anyway, because the coops fuck with me anyway. Like, I need a rock. I'm trying to get home in a decent time, and I ain't making the money I was making that continually. You feel what I'm saying? It was like, yeah, it was a difference. Yeah, yeah. But you know what I'm saying? It was still good money and stuff like that. And I know I ain't got no chance to be at the bar and stuff like that, so it was just like I should, I should have gone to across the street on AS when I had the chance. But and then at the time, too, and Terminal B had shut down for remodeling, so they had to split people up. And I was one of the only people still working five days a week and stuff like that, and people hated it because they hated to do the pay at the table. And I was always the top three at pay at the table because that's how you keep your days and stuff like that. So for the first two hours, I pushed that shit strongly. You know what I'm saying? As soon as they sit down, hey, if you're in a rush and stuff, just gotta wait on it. You know what I'm saying? You see, I'm busy just pay at the table right there. So they kept my sales up, but people like it affect their tilts, but it kept me table, but they didn't want to do what the manager said and stuff. Like, I was cool with the general manager, but me and that dude got into it. So the general manager, you know, he said he had to let me go. I shook his hand and said we'll work together. This is on footage. He walked me to the exit. No nothing. Like, so I'm just thinking, like, all right, well, whatever. And I can't make this up. That was on a Friday. My partner who got a connected FedEx found out what was going on. He was like, bro, I can get you on the FedEx real fast. On third that Thursday, I was in orientation at FedEx. You know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_05

So you know.

Touring With Senderos Del Norte

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and then like my um like I swear to God I can't make this up. I posted it on Facebook and see the um six weeks after being at FedEx, I want employee of the month. You know what I'm saying? I posted it, my cousin, like, bro, what the fuck you doing at FedEx? Oh, like, shit, I need a job, I got five nerve. He was like, Well, shit, I can get you on to my job. I was like, Bet a month later, he got me on that spectro gutters. You know what I'm saying? He got me all the third stuff like that. So I stayed up there then, bro, it was in November. November 17th, uh this November, like last November that just passed. I was getting, I was on my way to the house and I got a message on Facebook message, hey bro, you trying to come back to the airport? It was chase. There you go. It would chase. I was like, hell yeah. He was like, all right, bro. Well, they finna let somebody go. Like, they run a small soul. This is the time to go. Yeah, and it was like, they gonna let them go at the first, they're gonna move you in, this, that, and the third. I was like, hell yeah, let's get the fuck up out of here. You know what I'm saying? But um, this is outside the one place, one thing I did like about that that I was I got to meet this band called Senderos. At the time there was Petroleros, and they now they go by Senderos. That's the brand I'm working. That's what that's where I work. They're a band? Yeah, they're Northanios band. They play Northanios style music.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

You know what I'm saying? And they travel. Like I say, when they travel, I don't travel down to Napa, Florida, Springfield, Pennsylvania. Like, yeah, no, we they they travel. They're like very known and stuff like that.

SPEAKER_03

And they're Senderos Del Norte?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, Senderos del Norte. It means like new past, new paths beginning or something like that. Don't quote me all the way on it, but I know it got something to do with paths. Like, hey, you feel what I'm saying? I know a little bit. I know mainly how the shit talks be like.

SPEAKER_00

Huh? What?

SPEAKER_01

But like, nah, they like because like I said, it's a big bro, it was a big financial drop.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

You know what I'm saying? Like it was a big financial drop, but like they came through, and if it wasn't for them, bro, it was it, I probably wouldn't even be able to stay there because they paid me, they show me love on the page. Yeah, they they they took care of me. You feel what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_03

Like, plug them again?

SPEAKER_01

Uh Senderos? Senderos, del Norte.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, like they're on the YouTube and stuff.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah, they just dropped a new album and stuff, too. And they gave me a shout-out on the album. Uh, you show me that. Yeah, you said they gave me a shout-out on the album, bro. It's like no, it's like a brotherhood. Like, I'll be in the kind of music is this? Nathaniel's, it's a certain style of um Spanish music. Okay, you know what I'm saying? So it's a full band, like how it messed up with the what's the her um the thing Steve Urkel played? Uh the accordion. The accordion. Okay. So you got an accordion, you got a guitar, you got a bass, you know what I'm saying? You got the drums, you got the lead singer. It's a full band. Okay. You know what I'm saying? And they no, they got some, they got a crazy fan base and stuff like that. Oh, yeah, they probably hard.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

You know what I'm saying? And like I said, with them being in Colorado, it's it's a brotherhood. Like I'll be at their family houses.

SPEAKER_05

Well, you go through those trips and those tours and stuff, and you bond together, and you just go into a family.

SPEAKER_01

Bro, you don't know, and then the crazy part, like I respect it because Eric, he's the one that played a saxophone. We work together. He's the one who got me on with him and stuff like that. And it was like literally, he got a family and everything. So it'll be like Monday through Thursday, we'll be at work working nine to five. You feel what I'm saying? Then we don't go to work Friday, but we'll go out of town Friday. You know what I'm saying? And we'll go on a trip and they'll perform on a weekend. So Friday, then we'll probably take Monday off to get some rest. That then we'll like the next week, unless then they'll better be local the next week, and so we'll work that full week and stuff like that. And like even my company was like, hey, if it comes down to uh driving for the band or working here, what you gonna do? I'm like, I ain't trying to be funny, but I got a lot of side hustles. Y'all know I do a lot of like I make candles, lotions, and I make the clothes and stuff. Like, I'm gonna I'm gonna go with the band because they show me loyalty, they pay good, it's like opportunities, like just their culture, period, bro, is like even other bands, they they fuck with me tough.

SPEAKER_03

Like, so it's it's so you're doing that right now, and I have to take a three-month vacation because I just started my new job board standing.

SPEAKER_01

You know, you gotta get in good.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, so you've only been back at the uh airport.

How To Send Your Stories

SPEAKER_01

Uh last month. I've been there for like a like yeah, like I told you, November. Like I told you, like and I started in but the snowstorm, yeah. The snowstorm sent me back a week. Yep, yeah. So it was like right after the snowstorm, that's when I started. Oh, okay. Like, yeah. Yeah, not even just a few weeks. Like, not like five weeks now. Okay, yeah, five weeks because I'm my next check, and I'm talking about, yeah, the money up there is is beautiful, bro. I'm not gonna, yeah, I'm not gonna say that for it. But you feel what I'm saying? But like I had to take a three-month um vacation from driving, but I'm going back to driving, like, because I love it. I love that scenery. So, but I'll be happy to work on it.
