Good Thinking: Positive Affirmations
Episode 360: Weekly Reflection: Gratitude Builds Positivity And Connection

Host Jason Connell welcomes listeners to Good Thinking weekly reflection, noting the podcast is now daily and that last week’s clarity-themed affirmations were helpful. He introduces next week’s theme—gratitude—starting Monday, and shares five takeaways: gratitude shifts focus to what is present, supports a more positive mindset, deepens everyday experiences, strengthens connection and belonging through appreciation of others, and creates a sense of enough by fostering contentment and reducing the need for more. He illustrates gratitude through practices like yoga, sports, and a Saturday soccer-and-coffee ritual with long-time friends, and discusses simplifying possessions through purging and “travel light.” He thanks listeners and subscribers, previews ongoing daily episodes, midweek resets, weekly reflections, and encourages following the show’s growing social media.

Just curious. Welcome to Just Curious Media. This is Good Thinking, and I'm Jason Connell. So I'm back with another weekly reflection episode. And I really enjoyed last week's affirmations with the theme of clarity, which means so much. And when I'm writing, recording, editing, everything on these affirmations, I'm doing a deep, deep, deep dive on them, and it's really helpful and kept me in that frame of mind. And so we're going to revisit themes more often rather than repeat a theme too many weeks in a row. I'm still learning. There's no hard and fast rules here at Good Thinking, other than the fact that we are now a daily podcast, which is wonderful. But the new theme for next week is going to be gratitude. And the theme of gratitude may or may not be overused in some respects, but the more I thought about it, it just felt right. And so I'm going to give you five takeaways how gratitude can bring more positivity, happiness into your life. And then it will be the theme for the affirmations next week, starting on Monday. So here we go. Number one gratitude shifts focus to what is present. Noticing what is already here reduces the pull toward what feels missing. And that's well said because it really is about being present. You know, I get this from daily yoga practice, playing sports, just being somewhere where you can't be distracted. It's something I seek in my daily life. So gratitude allows you to do that, kind of snaps your fingers and puts you present, which is what we need to do more often. Number two, gratitude supports a more positive mindset. Acknowledging what is working well encourages optimism and emotional balance. So the more often you're feeling a sense of gratitude, it's inherently creating a positive mindset and is encouraging optimism, which is great. So when you're feeling overwhelmed or hopeless or things are spinning out of control, stop and be grateful, feeling gratitude, for what you do have. And I know I had to shift my focus a few years ago to do this very thing, and it's incredibly powerful when that switch really activates. It's one thing to say it, but you have to feel it. Number three, gratitude deepens everyday experiences. Simple moments feel more meaningful when they are recognized and appreciated. Yes, the little things in life, I know, very cliche, can be the most beautiful moments of your day, of your week, of your month, of your year. A walk outside, feeling carefree and untethered to things. Coffee with a friend. You know, I play in a soccer game every Saturday morning with a bunch of great friends who I've known for over a decade, most of them anyway. And that is a ritual that we all do and cherish. And we come together very early in the morning, and afterwards, half of us go and get coffee and catch up on things. And it's become such a sacred time. And it's a simple thing to do, and it's something that kids do, but adults can still partake in these activities, and we can still bond and share, and we all have a sense of gratitude because of this, because we're able to experience this together. Number four, gratitude strengthens connection. Appreciation for others builds stronger relationships and a greater sense of belonging. Wow, that's really powerful. The more you care and have appreciation for others, you're going to build a stronger bond, a stronger connection, a better friendship, a partnership. And not just taking whatever relationships are in your life for granted, but having gratitude for them enriches your life in countless ways. And number five, gratitude creates a sense of enough. Recognizing what is already available brings contentment and reduces the need for more. I have been living this one for a few years now, looking at what I have in my life, and you know, I used to think, well, I need this, that, and the other. The truth of the matter is, I already have so many things I don't want. And I have purged over the last few years, and it's been feeling amazing. Travel light, have nice things, but don't have more than you need. Now, for me, I moved a lot over the last so many years, and it made me look at my stuff. If you don't move that often, you can accumulate. And so do yourself a favor, look around, be grateful for what you have rather than focus on what might be missing, because you're probably not missing anything at all. So there you go. Gratitude is the theme. We are moving forward. I cannot wait for the new affirmations. I'm also really excited to see the show continue to grow and reach more people. So thank you for being a listener, a subscriber, and keep coming back. I will keep making daily episodes and doing the midweek reset and these weekly reflection episodes. Also, check out the social media. It's still in its infant stage, but we're growing. I believe there's 12 posts there. So the affirmations have some visual component to them. And um, thanks again, and we'll see you next time.
