Speaker 2:

Hello everyone and thank you for joining us on this new episode of the podcast Joy in this Journey. I hope you're having a very blessed day, depending on the time you're listening to us, and today we will be reading in Hebrews, chapter 7, verses 22 to 28. We read in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. By so much more, jesus has become a surety of a better covenant. Also, there were many priests, because they were prevented by death from continuing, but he, because he continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. Therefore, he is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them. For such a high priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners and has become higher than the heavens, who does not need daily, at those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for his own sins and then for the people's. For this he did once for all when he offered up himself. For the law appoints as high priest men who have weaknesses, but the word of the oath which came after the law appoints the son who has been perfected forever. Meditating on these verses, god was ministering my life on how Jesus already did it all. In this chapter of the book of Hebrews, god tells us that Jesus was made a surety of a better covenant, a covenant without the need for animal sacrifice to justify our sins, a covenant where we all have access to God whenever we want, not just once a year and not just one person, but all those who come to God through him.

Speaker 2:

The Old Testament and the laws of the Old Covenant show us that we have fallen short before God and that, no matter how much we try to become righteous on our own, we will not be able to. The main purpose of the law was to reveal God's standards and to show that we alone could not reach God. Verses 24 to 25 says that he has an unchangeable priesthood. This means that it remains the same yesterday, today and forever. Not only this, but he's also able to save anyone who comes to God through him. Everything that could not be achieved through the old covenant Jesus did. The good thing is that this has nothing to do with us or what I have done or what I will do, but it's only through him and for him, something that, even on these days, is difficult to accept, and we can be led to believe that because we do certain things for God we can be more saved than others. But the truth is that Jesus did it all. Understanding this can lift the heavy weight off our shoulders If we let the Holy Spirit help us realize that we are accepted before God through Jesus and not through our works. In other words, that what you and I do or we would do does not change the fact that Jesus died on the cross and paid for our sins.

Speaker 2:

Ephesians, chapter 2, verses 8 to 9, says For by grace you have been saved through faith and not of yourselves. It is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone shall bust. And Romans 3 26 says to demonstrate at the present time his righteousness, that he might be just and the justifier of the one. The essence of the gospel is accepting what Jesus did on the cross through his death and resurrection, and not only that, but also what he wants to do every day through his Holy Spirit in our lives. He's the one who changes and transforms our life. God tells us that he searches and purifies us through his word.

Speaker 2:

Hebrews, chapter 4, 12-13 says For the word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword person, even to the division of soul and spirit and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart, and there is no creature hidden from his sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of him, who we must give account.

Speaker 2:

Through spending time with God in intimacy, we are changed, and not because this will add or take away what Jesus has already done, but because it is beneficial to our lives, and this is what our souls need. Having access to God is definitely a privilege. To end, I would like to leave you with this verse in 2 Corinthians 7. Therefore, having these promises beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. What was difficult for men to do, jesus did. Therefore, since we have Jesus as a surety of a better covenant full of great promises, let us freely accept and receive what he did and is doing for us. I hope this has been a blessing to your lives. This is your sister in Christ, lauren.
