EP#24: Chandra Hendren and Emma Wilson Neal: What We Have Learned from Christ About Political and Civic Engagement
Join Chandra Hendren and Emma Wilson Neal as they dive into what Christ has taught them about political and civic engagement. They share their experiences coming to know God and Jesus Christ as young children and how their faith in Christ has helped motivate them to become politically and civically involved. Emma shares how God can place us in situations to engage in civics and politics. Chandra shares how she has learned that "just because you don't care about politics, doesn't mean politics isn't interested in you." They discuss the principles of love and humility that Jesus Christ taught and how that can help us handle the contention that can arise in politics and be humble in our interactions with each other as well as being humble with God. Chandra and Emma also share advice on not being disengaged from politics and civics and how Jesus' words to "fear not" can help us in this area of our lives.
Chandra Hendren has over 16 years of public policy experience having worked as California State Legislative staff, and a Utah Legislative liaison. Chandra has also worked as a policy director for the Missouri State Legislature and currently works as Regional Director for Heritage Action for America.
Emma Wilson Neal registered her first friend to vote in 2007, but really started to be involved during the past couple years. From 2020–2022, she has worked promoting non-partisan voter registration drives around the world. She then spent a few months as a volunteer, gathering signatures for a candidate she believed in. For the past 18 months, she has been involved with civic education, working with the Utah Civics Project and Women's Work Utah.
