The Winning Wednesdays Podcast: Overcoming Life’s Difficult Seasons

Follow Me

Geneva Brown Season 2 Episode 8

I often reflect on all the laws and commands the Israelites had, and I wonder how they could have struggled to follow them. But then I think of the incredible freedom we have today because of what Jesus Christ has done for us, and I realize that I, too, fall short. Every day we face a series of choices: tell the truth or lie, gossip or stay silent, eat healthily or indulge, exercise or rest, study or watch TV, work or slack off, pray or seek advice from others, speak life or speak death, choose love or harbor hate.

In each of these moments, God calls us to follow Him. But how do we do that? By reading His Word and applying it to our lives. The more we follow Jesus, the more we become like Him. I've said this before—whatever you follow, you begin to reflect. There will always be signs of what or who you follow because you start to adopt their character traits. I believe that’s exactly what Jesus wanted for His disciples—He wanted them to follow Him so closely that they would begin to take on His characteristics.

We are called to follow Him as He showed love and compassion to everyone, as He withdrew to quiet places to pray to our Father, as He spoke truth with love and kindness, as He met the needs of those who were suffering, and as He extended mercy and grace to others. The more we follow Him, the more we embody these traits.
