The Winning Wednesdays Podcast: Overcoming Life’s Difficult Seasons

The Unknown God

Geneva Brown Season 2 Episode 14

In John Chapter 4 Verses 21 Jesus tells the Samaritan woman that she is worshiping a powerless god, while the Jews worship the living God—a God whose power and presence had been clearly demonstrated throughout their history, beginning with their deliverance from Egypt. From that point on, God continually revealed Himself to His people.

In contrast, the god the Samaritans worshiped lacked power and a legacy of divine intervention. Even today, many believe they are worshiping God, yet He remains unknown to them because they have associated Him with a powerless, man-made image—limited to what they can comprehend in the physical realm. But as Jesus explains in verse 24, God is Spirit. To truly know Him, we must know Him through the Spirit.

The Spirit of the Lord brings truth, and this is what Jesus was offering the Samaritan woman: the opportunity to know and receive God through faith by the Holy Spirit.
