Beth Whitworth Season 2 Episode 54

Send Beth a text!

In this episode, I share my busy end-of-summer experiences and the importance of embracing life’s opportunities. Inspired by my supportive husband and overcoming the challenges of participating in male-dominated sports, I emphasize the need to take action and not let fear or societal expectations hold you back. My personal journey, including a cancer diagnosis, has taught me to seize the moment and do what brings joy and fulfillment. I encourage listeners to stop waiting and start doing the things they’ve been putting off, whether it’s a trip, a new hobby, or simply something that makes you happy. Your time is now, so just do it.

I am Beth Whitworth race car driving quilt making CPA firm owning wife, mom, and boss. I'm here to help you build a business you love by sharing all of the good, the bad, the ugly, and the excellent sides of working in this industry. It's not always easy, but after many years, I can finally say it's worth it.

Let me guide you on your journey to accounting with confidence.

Hi everybody. Welcome to another fs. Episode of Accounting With Confidence. I am Beth Whitworth and today I am running errands right now after a really busy weekend. So I decided that I would jump on here while I'm driving, which may or may not work out. We'll see. Um, and that you, uh, in on another Confidence booster episode, so.

It's been a very busy end of summer and transition in the fall. The last few weeks I've been traveling quite a bit. I've been participating in a new competition sport. I've been busy getting things ready for submission for. Um, speaking at conferences next year, and it's just, it's been a lot. I've got, you know, some website work I'm working on.

I've got some tax deadlines, I've got a lot of things going on, but I really wanted to just reach out and do a quick episode on getting things done and in from this perspective of just do it. Don't wait, and I come from a space. Of, you know, I have a very, very supportive husband and we have been racing in a male dominated sport.

I've been racing in it for decades, um, close to 30 years, and I have recently joined another competition sport that is male dominated. And there is a lot of pressure sometimes to get yourself psyched up to do it. And you feel, you know, as women, you know, we're not always the one that's going to jump in and say, Hey, yeah, let me be the only woman doing this, or Let me be the person that is different than all the rest.

And I was a little worried, I was a little concerned. I was a little, you know, feeling like maybe, you know, am I going to embarrass myself? And I've always said, you know, all the time that my goal is I just don't wanna embarrass my husband. And what I have recently figured out is that I was never embarrassing my husband.

Even as I'm learning and growing and doing new things, he is very supportive and I think that there are other husbands or spouse. Is there significant others out there that wish that their spouse would do some of these things that are more male dominated, just so they could spend time together, or in our case, you know, learning new skills.

And that is something that I'm always, I'm a lifelong learner, but sometimes things can be scary and it's only really been in the last few years. Since I was diagnosed with cancer that I have gone out and done things that I would have, I don't know, overthought for a really long time. Now, I like, well, you know what?

If I'm interested, just just do it. Just do it. Life is too short. Life is really made by the memories that you make in the good times, and you never know when. Tides will turn where something happens and you have a critical illness or you have a life changing event that you can't participate in. Things that bring you joy, give you energy, make you make you happy.

And so my confidence booster today is to say, just do it. Whatever that thing is that you have been thinking about, but either not putting word. To or not putting action to just do it. And I'm not stealing from Nike here. You know, this is just something that I feel passionately about, that um, you shouldn't wait until something life changing happens like happened to me.

And you should really take that trip, plan that vacation, participate in that. That sport or that class, learn something new. Whatever those things are that you have been thinking about and not taking action on, figure out how to get it done. Figure out what it would take to take the next step on it. Right now.

Don't wait. Because what I have found in the last few months and weeks and the last six months of participating in this new sport is that it's very fulfilling as you learn new things, um, and you gain new skills or you go on that trip that you, you've never been to someplace, and you go and you learn so much more about, about where you're going, you know about the things you're doing.

And taking the time, you know, even if it's read that book, you know, what, what series have you been wanting to read? What TV show have you been wanting to watch? Even if it's the little things, you just do it because it's easy to say, well, I'll do it when I have time. I'll do it when the kids grow up. I'll do it when the kids are out of college.

I'll do it when I retire. And that is putting it off till an indefinite timeframe that it's not worth it Because any, any time, any day, something significant can happen and you wouldn't have got to enjoy that thing. So just do it for me. I am still working hard. I still have a lot of things to do in my business.

Um, there's still a lot of. Goals I want to attain there, and I have those on my radar every day, but also on my radar now is to spend the time and even spend that little bit of money or even a lot of money to do the things that, like I said, bring me joy, give me energy, and make. The work and the building of my business worth it because if all you're doing is working or all you're doing is focusing on other people and not yourself, there will come a time when you may regret it and you may not have the opportunities.

So find the things small or large, and just do it. Be brave. If it's something that's scary, just take the time because you are important enough that you need to do. It's really important to me and that, you know. That it's, you're worth it. And whatever it is that you want to do, you can do it. No matter what your inner monologue tells you, no matter what society tells you, no matter what, you can do it.

And I'm here for you. All right, that's all I have for today. We'll see if he can clean up the sound and audio on this. I told you it was gonna be a short one. I have managed to, um, not run any red lights or stop signs I've not ever recorded while I was driving. Um, but I'm going someplace where I'm very familiar with how to get there, so that makes it a little easier.

Um, and I'm gonna come back with some more episodes here, and I really need your input. On what types of things you want to hear more about? Do you want to hear more about, you know, how I am, you know, doing things in my business, how I'm getting clients, how I am scaling, how I am, I don't know. Um, how, how I'm pricing, what, whatever.

Is there something in my business you wanna know about or do you wanna know more about? Um, my mindset, the things that have, um, impacted me to. Change how I work in the business, work in the industry, or even how I'm changing things within the industry that I, my, you know, my passion is to, um, not be your typical accounting firm and to run it as a industry that, uh, people wanna get into and not leave in mass exodus.

So, please, there's a link wherever you're listening to this that says, send Beth a text. I would love it if you. Would send me a text and what do you wanna hear more about? And that will help me plan what I talk about. I will tell you that one of the things that I had wanted to do for a very long time was have podcast and I wanted to do this and I didn't do it or have the courage to do it until after I went through my cancer treatment and after I got through that life changing event.

It, but podcasting is one of the things that brings me a whole bunch of positive energy and it, it's crazy enough that it takes time away from kind of what I work on with, uh, my clients, but it makes me more productive after I've done it. It's one of those crazy things that just lights me up. So I would love it if I can talk to you about things.

That, um, you wanna hear about that can help you find things that light you up. But in the meantime, like I said, whatever it is in your world, just do it. Just do it now. Make this fourth quarter of, uh, this year of 2025. Be a time where you pick something and just do it. And then. I want you to let me know what it was.

Um, I would love it if you would, um, send me an email or click on that link, um, in a text message and let me know what it is that you are going to do, because it's time and it's, it's, there's no reason to wait. All right, everybody. That's all I have for today. I am just about to my eye doctor, where I'm going to pick up some contacts.

I'm gonna wrap this up and I'm gonna hope that Shep can do fabulous things. He's my editor who I love. He is the one that puts all these things together and makes me sound so smart and, and pulls out the nuggets that he can put it together in a whole lot fewer words. So shout out to Chubb and I will talk to you again next week.

Bye for now.
