Ep: 10 Pivot or Panic: How Your Mindset Shapes Business Success
What really separates thriving entrepreneurs from those who stay stuck?
It’s not strategy. It’s perspective.
Two business owners can face the exact same challenge, a ghosting client, a quiet launch, a changing algorithm, and have completely different outcomes. The difference? One panics, the other pivots.
In this episode, I’m sharing how a mindset shift turned a “no” into a “not yet” and how six months later, that same client came back ready to invest. 👀
We’ll talk about:
→ Scarcity vs. abundance thinking
→ Why perfection is the enemy of progress
→ How shifting your lens can unlock growth
If you’ve been feeling stuck, defeated, or caught in comparison, this one’s for you. Tune in and flip the script.

I'm so happy you're here and I hope you enjoy this episode. Hey everyone, welcome back to the Connection Hub podcast. I'm your host, cassandra Arsenault, and today we are going to talk about entrepreneurial growth and what are the secret ingredients to that.
Speaker 1:As you know, I have been an entrepreneur now for five years, owning my business and running it full-time. This is my full-time gig. I've learned a lot of things over the years and I want to share some of that with you. Have you ever noticed that two people can look at the exact same situation and see things completely differently? Perspective really changes what we bring to the table and how we see things. It shapes really everything, and so when we look through our perspective and when we look through our lens, we might do things differently. We might try things differently. It doesn't mean that the other person is wrong. It just means that we're coming to the table with different stories, different experiences, different lessons, and now we can collaborate and bring that to the forefront and move in bigger ways.
Speaker 1:So what I want you guys to think about throughout this episode is where is my perspective and where does that get in the way? Because sometimes our perspective can block us. Right, we've been doing it this way. For how many years? We've been doing it this way? The whole time we've owned our business? We always do it this way and it always works. But sometimes your perspective can get in the way. But sometimes your perspective can get in the way Instead of it offering you challenging experiences, instead of it offering you opportunities. It kind of is your safety net. Right, I've been doing it this way, I know because I either have success with it or I know somebody who has success with it. So that sounds good to me and I'm going to keep doing it this way.
Speaker 1:But what ends up happening is that sometimes we don't have the opportunity to flip the script, turn around, sit at the other end of the table and say, okay, you've been doing it this way for so long, but how can it improve, how can it change, how can it be more beneficial, and so when we tie our entrepreneurship to our perspective, we start to notice different things come up. So, business owners, we often face the same external factors right, we have money. Money is huge in business. Right, if we don't have the money coming in, things can't flow properly. If we don't have things happening in our business easily and in flow and in schedule and we don't have any sort of organization, things can feel really scattered.
Speaker 1:Clients right, Whether clients are coming in or clients are ghosting or clients are leaving, that all affects how your business operates. Social media, algorithm changes, different platforms popping up all of these things can change, right, and so your perspective is going to determine whether you pivot or panic in these changes. When a client leaves, do you pivot or panic? When the economy changes and we go into like a little bit of a recession, right, and people are like, oh my gosh, you know people are spending less money on marketing or they're spending less money on spa services, do you panic or pivot? What do you do in your business is determined by your perspective. So two entrepreneurs can be in the same situation, right, they can sit down and say, okay, we are two online business coaches and they can have two clients each that ghost them. Now, with those same situations, with those same factors, there can have different outcomes. And when we have those different outcomes, that is because we are coming from a space of different perspective. Now our perspective can also come into the power of reframing things. So here we're talking about, you know, we want to talk about the secrets of the entrepreneurial growth pattern. We have perspective, right, we have experiences that we're coming to the table with. We have ways of looking at things. Now the power of reframing is saying okay, this is a challenge in front of me. What do I do with it? Do I see it as an opportunity or do I see it as the end?
Speaker 1:When I first opened my business, I had a bunch of discovery clients. I was doing discovery calls constantly. I probably did two or three discovery calls a day for a long time. I still do discovery calls, but they were much more potent, they were much more frequent when I first started my business because I was building up my clientele, learning about what I was going to do, offering different services, all of the things. So when I first started, about three months in, I had a discovery call with a client out of Toronto Loved the discovery call, sent over the package, the proposal, everything, and they had said that they weren't ready to invest this type of money for my services. At the time I was charging, I think, close to $500 a month, maybe a little bit less, and I, you know, was a little taken aback. I was like, oh okay, like, is this something inside of me? Am I blocking myself? Am I, you know, is? Am I providing enough value for what I want to give people at this, at this price range? Goodness, okay, what is going on here? What am I going to do?
Speaker 1:I thought I was going to land this client. We had such a good rapport, we had such a good conversation. I really thought it was a shoe in, and when it came back that it wasn't, I just didn't really know how to feel about it. It was one of the first no's that I had experienced in business, and what I learned from that experience was it's a not yet, it's not a no, it's a not yet. So six months later, we fast forward and this client that I had had this discovery call with that said no initially, sent me an email and said hey, xandra, I hope you're doing so well. We are at the point where we're ready to invest in this marketing thing and right away I thought amazing, this is so exciting. I was ready to onboard them, all of the things that needed to happen. And what I learned right away in that moment was it's not yet. It's not a no, it's just not yet.
Speaker 1:And so when we can take things and reframe them and say, okay, what is this teaching me? Is there a lesson here that I need to learn? Is this really a problem or is it more just an inconvenience? Right, because sometimes we get caught up in this experience and we're like, oh, this is such a big problem and blah, blah, blah, but is it more, just an inconvenience? Is it more just? You know not the way we thought it was going to go. And then you know what would your future version say about you and say about this moment? Exactly right, is that person, that future version of you, the super successful, whatever you want that to be version of you? Is that person freaking out about this moment? Or are they saying you know what? That's okay, we're good. Good, because we know that there's something better. We know that there's something bigger here, when you choose to see these challenges as opportunities, opportunities to grow, to connect, to go deeper, to question, to get curious. It actually reframes those failures as wins, right? Because if I would have taken that moment and said, oh, I hate this client, I'm never going to talk to them again, block, delete, remove I would have never gotten that client later down the road. But because I chose to keep the door open and because I chose that this might be an opportunity for me to learn something, to grow, to develop, I was able to say okay, I'm going to hold off on this, I'm going to continue to engage with them, I'm going to continue to show up in their circle and, who knows, down the road it might work out and it did, all right.
Speaker 1:So number three is growth. In business, there's scarcity and there's abundance. There's growth and there's lack right. And so when we come out of fixed versus growth mindset, we're going to talk about how our perspectives can limit or expand your business. So if you're coming from a fixed mindset, this is the only way we can do it, this is the only way it's been done, that's it, that's all, let's go.
Speaker 1:You tend to limit yourself Because you're not able to sit at the different seats at the table and look from different perspectives, you're limiting on where you can expand because you're just looking through the one lens. But when you're in a growth mindset, you're able to get up and sit at the table, two seats down and you're able to get up and sit across the room and you're able to stand at the door and see it from all of these different perspectives and say, okay, here's the business in front of me, here's the goals that I want to achieve, here's the people that I want to help. Now, how can I use my experience and my expertise, my passion and my excitement and also my perspective to change my reality, right? So when you get up and you look at the problem from the door, it's going to look different than it is from the other side of the room, which is going to look different from where you're sitting right now. And so when you're able to say, okay, I want to grow and I want to expand and I'm going to work out of the place of abundance rather than lack, you're able to ask questions, you're able to get curious, you're able to burn it all down and start again and say you know what that didn't work and I'm going to shift and I'm going to move quickly rather than getting stuck inside of. That didn't work. I don't understand why, because it worked for everybody else.
Speaker 1:I challenge you to reflect on where you've been stuck because of your limiting perspectives. Right, where in your business, where in your life have you been stuck because of this perspective change? You weren't able to look at it from any other place? I had this happen recently in my personal life. I couldn't understand somebody else's perspective. I was sitting in front of them, we were having a conversation and I could not put myself in their shoes.
Speaker 1:This has happened every once in a while and I get frustrated and flustered because I don't feel that they're understanding my perspective. But what's happening there is that I'm going outside of my window of tolerance. We're going to go a little bit into the psychology world here. I'm going a little bit outside of my window of tolerance and I'm getting activated by this. There's something inside of this conversation that's activating me, which is then blocking me from changing my perspective and being able to see it from their point of view. I need to take a step back and say, okay, where am I limiting myself here? Where am I blocking myself? Where am I turning into a fixed mindset. And how can I calm myself down? Come back to my body myself and say, okay, I'm ready to hear it from your perspective, with a blank slate, and try and understand it from that person's point of view.
Speaker 1:This is hard to do in life because oftentimes we want to be right, we want to be you know, we know what we do, we know what we're capable of. We want to be right, we want to do it our way. But sometimes, when we refuse to reflect and change perspective, we really limit ourselves in our capacity and what we're capable of doing, just because we're not willing to look at it from any other place. So in your life, in your business, reflect on where you've been stuck because of that. Where have you been just banging your head against the wall because you keep ending up in the same spot. It might be a limiting perspective that you're running into.
Speaker 1:Now let's talk a little bit about perspective shifts for entrepreneurs. So, like I said, there's the scarcity versus abundant, there's the perfection versus progress, there's the comparison versus inspiration, there's collaboration versus competition. There's a lot of different perspectives that come in when we talk about business ownership and entrepreneurship. A lot of times our default is to fall into the negative side perhaps of things. Right, that scarcity, that perfection, that comparison, that competition we look at it, those all come from scarcity. When you think about it, competition is scarcity because competition means you might lose clients, it means you might lose money, you might lose influence, you might lose something. Comparison also comes from scarcity. What does it mean about me when that person is successful? What does it mean about my business when that person is doing what I'm doing and they're doing it better than I am? And then the perfection right, same thing, that scarcity piece If it's not perfect, it's not good enough, and then we don't do it because it can never be perfect.
Speaker 1:So where in your business do you see these things pop up? A lot of people, you know. We look at events. Perhaps. Right, you want to host a workshop, or you want to host an workshop, or you want to host an event, or you want to do an online course or whatever. It is a mastermind group. Well, there's probably thousands of other people that are doing that as well. So do you use that as competition or do you use that as collaboration? Maybe this is an opportunity to collaborate with somebody who's already doing this, to learn from them, but also to use each other's audiences. Is there an opportunity, instead of looking at Instagram and comparing yourself to the millionaire in your industry, to use that as inspiration and drive to know that it's possible and that you can do it too?
Speaker 1:The perfection piece Do you get stuck sending an email because you just want it to be perfect and you noticed that there was a comma in the wrong spot or that the font is a little funky? Or do you send it because it's better to be 80% good and send it and get your message out there than to be perfect with it? This is where we get stuck a lot of business owners, myself included in the scarcity of abundance sorry, scarcity versus abundance piece. Right, we say, okay, I want to have all the clients in the world, but I never want to. You know, I never want to let go of a client, even though they might not be a good match anymore. Or I'm going to take on this client, even though I don't like that type of work, because I don't know when the next client is going to come, so I might as well just take this one right now. Or I'm not going to invest in myself. I'm not going to invest in my growth, my abilities, my skills, because what if that money never comes back to me? There's a lot of scarcity that we use in business. There's a lot of scarcity just in life, but also especially for entrepreneurs right, that essence that it's not going to come back. So I can't let it go.
Speaker 1:Think about where you use these in your life. Think about how they come up in your business. If you start to notice these patterns, you can start to kind of flip the script on yourself a little bit. You can start to try and change your perspective. Right, if you start to notice these patterns, you can start to kind of flip the script on yourself a little bit. You can start to try and change your perspective, right? If you notice, hey, okay, I took on this client and in the discovery call I felt a little off. You know. I felt, hmm, maybe this isn't going to be a great relationship. Flip the perspective, Go sit in the chair across the room. Notice yourself.
Speaker 1:In that moment it's like, oh, she's getting uptight, what's going on with her? She's getting a little agitated, like you know, she got off the call and she was all flustered and frustrated. Okay, so what is that and where is it coming from? And if that's the case now, how is that going to turn out in the client relationship two months from now? Two weeks from now, are you going to get frustrated and flustered? Are you going to be able to hold yourself and say this was the wrong relationship for me and I shouldn't be in this?
Speaker 1:And if you're able to sit down and say from that other seat, that other perspective, to say you know what, we did this once before and it wasn't good, I'm working out of scarcity versus abundance before and it wasn't good, I'm working out of scarcity versus abundance. If I let go of this potential client, I know I am going to find another one. Or are you saying, if I don't take this client right now, I might not find another one for a few weeks or a few months. So I got to take it now because I need the money right now and I need the work right now. So I might as well just take them and then, if it doesn't work out, it is what it is and all of those things. Right, we break down our boundaries, we break down our respect for ourselves in that process.
Speaker 1:So where are you working from abundance? Where are you working from inspiration, progress, excitement, collaboration? Where are you working from the other end of the table to say, no, I am not going to sit here and compare myself to other people. I am going to fuel my fire with that Look at what they've done. I want to do that too. Are you going to say you know what? It's not perfect, but I want to get it out there? I want to share my message. This is important for people to hear. I want to get it out there. I want to share my message. This is important for people to hear, and it's okay if it's not perfect yet.
Speaker 1:Where are you going to sit at the table and how are you going to challenge yourself in these perspective shifts? So perspective isn't about ignoring the reality. It's about how you're interpreting it and responding to it. At the end of the day, there are going to be clients that you don't like. There are going to be clients that don't like you. Money is going to come and it's going to go. Your business is going to have really great years, really great months, and it's going to have some that are not so hot. You're going to post on social media and it's going to take off, and then some days, it's just not going to.
Speaker 1:So how are you interpreting and responding to these experiences? That is what is really important when you learn how to interpret and respond to it, changing your perspective in the room, moving through the abundance progress, inspiration in the room. Moving through the abundance progress, inspiration, collaboration, mindset. When you're able to reframe what's sitting in front of you and say, okay, this is a challenge, but I'm going to use it as an opportunity, I'm going to use it as a lesson.
Speaker 1:When you're able to flip the script on these types of things, it becomes so much more potent in your business and you become a force to be reckoned with because you're no longer sitting inside of the energy of scarcity. You're no longer holding everything in and saying, okay, well, if I just have one more and if I just hold on to this and if I just just just, just just no, you're saying this is who I am, this is who I service, this is what I'm good at, and anything that gets in the way of that now becomes something that I can learn from, something that I can experience, rather than it being something that knocks you off your pedestal, rather than it being something that knocks your self-worth, your self-confidence. Think about situations that you can shift your perspective. Okay, go out into the world, experience your business can shift your perspective. Okay, go out into the world, experience your business, experience your life. When something happens, I want you to offer a different perspective.
Speaker 1:In the moment when the client says no to your proposal, I want you to flip the script and say okay, what can I learn from this experience?
