Send us a text

BreakThrough Boss founder Jovie J. Sumner shifts gears in todays episode to focus on the joy of giving and contributing to others. The man who is only focused on himself is the man who is suffering. Our lives are meant to be lived by service and contribution to others. The man who gives and gives freely from his heart is the man whose heart and soul are filled with joy, gratitude, meaning and fulfillment. Service and contribution to others is also one of the best ways to get out our heads when facing challenges in our own lives and into our hearts with joy and cheer. Once we stop focusing on ourselves and our own challenges, we start finding solutions that can help us step back into a beautiful state of being!

Speaker 1:

What are you doing to contribute and give, and what brings you the most joy when you give from your heart? Hey, hey, hey, what's up? Everyone? This is yours truly, jvj Sumner, and I want to welcome you to another episode of the Breakthrough Boss podcast, the daily recharge. Today's topic is what are you doing to contribute and what gives you the most joy when you're given?

Speaker 1:

So today's episode really is just about why are we here? You know, we're here for a lot of reasons. We're here to grow, we're here to progress, we're here to become more, we're here to accomplish more, we're here to contribute and give more, and that really is the heart of today's topic is, I think we all come here with a purpose. We all come here with different purposes and more than one purpose. Let me say that I also think that we are here for a bigger purpose, something beyond ourselves, and I don't think the bigger purpose has to be something grandiose or massive or, you know, on a Steve Jobs level or a, you know, oprah Winfrey level per se, even though a lot of times, we all have these massive, big goals and visions and things we want to accomplish, and while that can be a part of your purpose and may be a part of your purpose and your journey here on earth. I don't think that that's the only way to fulfill your purpose and I don't think that that's the only way to give or contribute in life. I think it can come in so many different forms big, small in between and there is something that is just really endearing about being able to give and something that is fulfilling about being able to give. There is is fulfilling about being able to give. There is a joy that comes from giving.

Speaker 1:

Today I had a situation where I had the opportunity to share something very simple with a gentleman who was landscaping in our neighborhood and you know, I just contributed and shared some water with the gentleman, just went and got him a few bottled waters. I knew he was probably hot. He's out there working hard and I've been in those positions, working on jobs where you know you're out in the elements and you know, sometimes the sun takes a toll on you and it just felt good for me to do something for someone other than myself and he was grateful and I was grateful to be of service and it just made me think about what can we give? You know, that's something I often hear Tony Robbins say you know, don't focus on what you want, focus on what you can give. And it sounds so cliche, it sounds so ass backwards to most of us, because most of us are conditioned to just focus on what we want and what we can get. And I truly believe that that's the difference between ordinary psychology and extraordinary psychology. So I want to challenge you to ask yourself today you know, what do I want to give and why am I here? Because I believe truly that a part of our purpose here on this planet is to give. I believe that a part of our purpose here is to grow and progress and also be able to become someone who has something to give and has the ability to share and to create more. And at the same time, it's truly fulfilling. It truly helps us to get out of our heads and into our hearts and to focus on serving others and to focus on blessing others. You know, if you look at it and you think about it, it makes sense.

Speaker 1:

I remember hearing Jim Rohn talk about the gift of the giver and whenever we do something kind again, whether it's big, whether it's small, it doesn't have to be massive, it could be in between we experience that gift of the gift giver, we experience that joy. So ask yourself, what am I here for? Why am I here and what do I want to give? Just a few questions to get the get the ball rolling. Another question what really gives you joy? Oh baby, this one gets the ball rolling. Another question what really gives you joy? Oh baby, this one gets the juice rolling.

Speaker 1:

You know, I love giving, I love contributing, and that can come in many different ways. For some people they love closing big business deals. I have a buddy of mine's, mike Pepler. He loves closing big business deals. He loves making money too, and so do I. But nothing gives Mike more joy than closing another big business deal. It's just it's what he enjoys doing. He also enjoys giving as well. He loves doing kind of things for people. When he's closed a big business deal and he'll go out and he'll just tip the cashiers a nice sum of money you know the waiters or the waitresses when he and his wife or his friends go out and he enjoys doing that, something kind he enjoys doing for others. Another friend of mine's uh, tyler wood, took a a friend of his sons on a trip to hawaii with Just something kind he wanted to do. That was a pretty big deal. I haven't even been to Hawaii. So, tyler, if you're listening, I want to go to Hawaii. Dude, hook me up.

Speaker 1:

I say all of this to say there's so many ways all of us can contribute and give, and it doesn't have to be all the time, it doesn't have to be every day. It'd be it if it's every day. But whatever we can give, sometimes it's just a smile, sometimes it's just a kind word, sometimes it's just an acknowledgement of another human being by making eye contact with them. We live in an age, in society, where we're always on our phones and looking down at our phones and disconnected from one another. So sometimes it's just human connection, just a smile, just a listen. You know when someone is talking, being mindful, being present, when they're listening, these types of things, it's all types of ways to give, and giving feels good. Giving makes us feel energized, it makes us feel alive, it makes us remember why we're here and that we're all interconnected with one another.

Speaker 1:

If you want to experience the gift of the giver, you must give from the heart, not from the head. The gift of the giver is the reward you get when you give selflessly and, of course, sometimes people will do things and they may do it for many different reasons, but the best thing about giving is it really doesn't matter. It doesn't matter as long as it comes from the heart, because if it comes from the heart and it's sincere and it's genuine, then it will bless someone else and it will bless you as well, and that is the gift of the giver. You get blessed by being a blessing and it's just a wonderful experience. So I encourage anyone listening to this podcast today do something, big or small, for someone outside of yourself and watch how your state will change. Watch how their state will change, watch the glow that it gives to them as well as to you, and, in the process, be grateful and give thanks that you are able to give and that you have something of value to give, on whatever level you're able to give from.

Speaker 1:

The last thing I'll say is this when you go and give, you grow. Or let me say it a different way you grow when you go and give. Now, what does that mean? It means that when you feel an inclination to do something for someone, maybe it's just the spirit or the voice within you calling you to go do something for someone. Maybe it's just from your heart, maybe you just see someone who needs help and you just take the initiative to go do it, without being asked, without being told. You just choose to do it.

Speaker 1:

This is another reward that comes from giving, and when we go, we grow, we get blessed. It's almost as if God or the universe says you know what you're doing something kind for someone. I'm going to do something kind for you because I'm not going to let you out, give me, so I'm going to give you to you what you were willing to give. And then some. It just works that way and that is a magnificent thing. So don't be surprised, if you're willing to go and give and serve someone else, that you won't be blessed and you won't grow in the process.

Speaker 1:

This has been my experience, and even today, when I did something kind for the young man who was the landscaper and again, it's not a big deal at all, it's just the principle. It's just the principle of giving and contributing there were some blessings in there that I received, some things I had been working to rise above and overcome. That came to me naturally, just out of a willingness to do something for someone beyond myself. So I think we live in a day and age right now where we're really waking up and we're really starting to break through and understand that we are all interconnected. We're all here for one another. We're all here to serve and contribute and give outside of ourselves to add to humanity, to add to this universe, to add to this world and to make it a better place in whatever way is meaningful for us, whatever way is meaningful for us.

Speaker 1:

So I think that if you'll begin to search for some ways that you can contribute and give and ask yourself what gives you joy and how you can give from the heart, and why are you really here and what are you here to give, I think that you'll begin to notice you'll not only grow more, but you'll also start to experience more of the juice in life. You'll also start to experience more of your purpose. You start to experience more passion and fulfillment and love and all of these other beautiful emotions like gratitude and fulfillment. So take some time, ask yourself some of these questions and go out and do something kind for someone today, because, at the end of it, being a breakthrough boss is not just about self. It's about growing. It's about being more, doing more, contributing more, creating more, producing more and giving more, as well as having more, and that's the breakthrough boss lifestyle.
