Welcome back to In Your Corner, a podcast by Men's Fight Club specifically for men. We'll be covering subjects weekly to address things that men do, things that men shouldn't do, and things that men should aspire to do. All this is designed to encourage men to want to become better fathers, better husbands, better brothers, better sons, and ultimately the leader that they were designed to be. We'll bring in special guests to deadlight from experience as they speak from wisdom on an unscripted format. So let's hear from the men in your corner. Let's go.
SPEAKER_01All right, Ben, thanks again for tuning in with us with the Men's Fight Club in Your Quarter podcast. It is so good to be here in studio again. Look forward to this stuff every week. This is just amazing that God will allow us to do this and that we'll expand the footprint of heaven on earth as we speak about things that men should consider and men should think about and maybe even implement in their lives. And we just thank you all so much for tuning in and making these moments special. Uh we have a very good audience of men that really want to see a difference in their lives and in others' lives, and I think this is very much a key. So uh in Studio Day, it is just me. I'll be giving a small message, a little talk about something I feel like is important. And I am your founder and host, Will Groskoff. Um, thank you so much again for being with us. Uh, just a little quick background. In 2018, we started uh Men's Fight Club, and in 2024, we started the In Your Corner podcast. So we've had quite a few, we got over 250 episodes out there of just some quality stuff. We encourage you to go back and listen to all of it, really, because everything in there is relevant. There's so much in there that's biblical talk, and we know this. The Bible has no expiration date. So you could apply it in everything that you do, and that's what we try to do. We try to live the Christian life the best way we know how, and we try to show others that they could do the same. Because really, what it comes down to is this we believe that one day we're going to heaven because we believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and that resurrection power is what makes us do what we do today, because we believe that if we're going to live eternally, we need to think eternally and act eternally. So in order to do that, we gotta know that we're gonna take as many people to heaven with us as we can. We're not trying to go there on a skateboard or a Lamborghini because the passengers are limited. We're trying to take school buses and airplanes to heaven full of people. That's uh that's the idea. Of course, you know, in reality, that's not what happens, but we are trying to gather as many people as we can to go there. That's why we're doing all we can to befriend who we can on earth, pour into them as best as we can, help them to rebuild the broken people around them and to grow strong children. So we appreciate you guys. So today I was pondering over this and thinking about what I was going to talk about today, and I've got still about 200 uh subjects left on what I want to talk about on our podcast and got several different uh guests lined up to be able to be on here with us. But every now and then I like to get on here as myself and just talk about a subject, or even I have my uh my counterpart, Brent Williams, who get on here. Like he done a series on spiritual warfare. I really encourage you guys to go back and uh listen to that. It was excellent stuff, man. Uh just love it. But always having these special guests is really something special as well. But today I'm gonna talk about something very different. And this is a question. It's what do you do when you just don't know what to do? What do you do when you don't know what to do? Well, I don't know about you, but I've had those moments in my life. And usually it's at the when I'm coming out of something or when I'm fixing to start something new, and it's like, man, how do I start? What do I do? I just don't know, or I'm in the slump, you know, because we we live in seasons and reasons. Sometimes there's a reason that you need to sit still, and sometimes there's a season of sitting still. Sometimes there's a season of of recovery, sometimes there's a season of refrain where you just gotta be like, hey, look, just hold off. You know, sometimes there's a season of sitting and wait, sometimes there's a season of preparation. These things uh are really, really good seasons to be in, but for a person that is always busy, man, it could be a nightmare. It could be a nightmare, especially if you suffer from any kind of anxiety disorder or or some kind of like ADHD or even OCD where you're where you're really wanting to do something, where you're or you're a person that's always busy, then the sitting still kills you. It kills you. I'm that person I used to be a workaholic, so sitting still killed me. I felt like I was always having to do something, and if I didn't, I felt like I was off. And I and I can just say this. When you don't want, when you don't know what to do, first off, just do this. Don't complicate it. Learn how to simplify it. So when you don't know what to do, it doesn't mean just do nothing. Sometimes there might be a stage in your life where it's like, hey, look, just sit still a minute. Just sit still. Well, if you're gonna sit still, learn to shut your brain off. Breathe deep. It's crazy to say it like this, but breathe deeply in your nose and then out through your mouth. Breathe deeply in your nose and out through your mouth. Have them woo-saw moments is what we used to say for them, like the movie Bad Boys, woo-sah. You know what I'm saying? You want to do that so you could actually start to calm your mind. It'll calm your body, calm your heart. And then just silently just pray. God, you got me in this weird season. Now I don't know what to do. I'm I'm captivated, I'm captivated by this moment of uncertainty. I just don't know what to do. Lord, speak to me, move through me, use the people around me. Whatever you gotta do, Lord, let me know what I'm supposed to do next. If I failed to do what I was supposed to do and you're waiting for me to complete that, bring that back to my remembrance. Help me to be have that attention back so I can get back on track. Anything like that helps. Anything like that helps. See, because in all this waiting and in this trying to figure out what's next, you you could absolutely let your mind go crazy. You could actually end up being so busy in your mind that you can't be effective. I mean, I look at it like this. When I have days that I literally have nothing to do, and I barely have those days, but when I do, I almost embrace them. I'm like, yes, I have nothing to do. But what happens is I'll binge watch something, or I'll watch a few movies, or I'll jump on an Xbox. But another thing, too, since I have no plan, I will eat every snack I got in the house because I'm just bored. I'm just bored. And so one thing I've discovered a few years back, it really helped me out a lot, is on the days that I have nothing to do, the best thing I could do is not do nothing. When I do that, I mean like this. I don't want to just simply do something for the sake of doing something. What I don't try to do is try to remember the things that I would have done when I had if I was just had more spare time. You know what I'm saying? There's there's so much stuff that you'd like to do, but you don't have the time to do. Well, then on those days that you have the time, why don't you try to remember what those were? Like, you know what, this is a good time to accomplish that. Like, you know, there, you know, people that will clean their house. That's good. But what about a deep clean? What about the one spot that you were trying to get to that you'd be like, man, I'll get it next time? Or hey, man, you know, I man, I haven't washed my car in a few months. It's a good time to do that. Just always something. Always something. The things that you didn't have time for, now you can do now. So the first step, I would say, more than anything, is to start off with something simple. And when I mean simple, I mean just simply plan. When you have nothing to do, plan to do something. Plan, do something. So I'm like, all right, well, I'm gonna clean the house. Okay, what do I want to do? I don't want to be scatterbrained about that either, because if I don't make a plan, then I'm not gonna make it. Also, I know that I'm gonna eat that day. So why don't I plan what I'm gonna make for lunch? That way I'm not just ravaging my cabinets, you know what I'm saying, or just nitpicking my refrigerator, trying to eat every left over and whatever. Why don't I make a plan to make something, even if it's simple like spaghetti or simple like a grilled cheese, something like that. Make a plan. Now, do you necessarily have to write it down? No. Do you gotta put it in your notes app? No. But those do help. Because one thing is this if you'll make the plan, you've already got a goal. You got a goal that you're trying to reach, and that helps out a lot. And then basically, in that planning, you'll see where God reveals stuff to you. Because the Bible says that He will be the light under your feet, that He will guide your footsteps. So as a man thinks, God guides his steps. So here we go. It would be like this, all right. So now I'm gonna make a plan, but now I gotta put it in steps. What am I gonna do? Okay, it's not just wash the car. Well, I've done it so many times where I wash the outside of the car, but the inside's still nasty. So I would make it, I'd make sure that I put it into steps, and not just steps, but manageable steps. Manageable steps. Don't put something under it so big that you can't finish it. You know, you don't say, all right, so uh I have this one day, so that means I'm gonna hang all the vinyl on my house and paint my house and finish my sheetrock and go ahead and redo my bathroom. That's way too big. That's way too big. Or I've got one day, so the best the best thing I can do is change my motor and my transmission out while I'm over my yard. Yeah, that ain't gonna happen. You know, things like this, you gotta make sure not only did you put in steps and you made a plan, but you also gotta make it manageable. Things that you could knock out, things that you could go ahead and get done. And then when you're doing that, start checking off every step that has been completed. That's a big deal. Why is that a big deal? Why do you want to check off those steps? Because in the mundane things and in the times when you have nothing to do, when you're bored, when you're just trying to go through some motions, you could celebrate a victory. A victory. That is so important. Why is it so important to celebrate these small victories? Because if you'll celebrate small ones, you'll recognize the big ones. That is so important, so important. Then as you finish the finish one of the tasks, go ahead and back up and could I have done that different? Could I have done it better? Or is it just right? I always tell people like this if you gave it your best, if you gave it your best, because only you and God know what your absolute best is. So if you gave it your best, guess what? There's nothing else you could have done. That was absolutely the best you could do. And guess what? God is 100% pleasing that. If it's your best, there's nothing else you could have done. Sorry, guys, getting a drink here. There's nothing else you could have done. You could so, but if it wasn't your best, go ahead and make sure you evaluate it so you can do it better next time. One of the things we always talk about before in different in different podcasts and stuff, and I explained this to guys that worked with me and stuff all the time. If you don't have time to do it right, you definitely ain't got time to do it over. So the best thing you do is put that in your plan too. Make room for a little bit of failure, make room for adjustments and go. And then here's the next thing. When you're done with that, go ahead and plan for tomorrow. Plan for tomorrow. The best thing you can do is already have a plan for the next day. You know why? Because it gives you something to look forward to. I think that is very much a key. It's not just, hey, we survived today. It's like, you know what? Today was a good day. And I got this accomplished, that accomplished, that accomplished. I've knocked these things out, that's all done. Look, I celebrated my win, and now I'm looking forward to tomorrow. You know, our Christian walk is the same way. And it's not checking boxes, it's not checking things off the list, but it is the things that, man, and you're like, Man, something's missing in my life, and I don't know what to do. Okay, well, back up. Maybe you didn't do something you were already supposed to be doing. When you start evaluating that, what does that look that look like? Man, be halfway through your day and realize you didn't even pray over it. Be almost done with your day and be like, Man, you know what? I didn't, I didn't even read God's word. I didn't even at least look at the scripture of the day. Man. And you don't want to go feeling defeated and you don't want to be like, oh, well, I need to rush over and do it. Because I still think it's good if you still do it. But the thing is, if you don't go back and evaluate before you plan for your next day, you'll miss it again. And you'll miss it again. And if you continue to miss it, it ain't long before you just don't miss it. And when you get to where you don't miss reading your word, and you don't miss you know, going to church, and you get to where you don't miss uh praying, man, you're in trouble. You're in trouble, you start to fall apart. You lose not only your strength, but your spirit starts to die too, because whatever you feed will grow. And if you're not feeding your spirit, guess what? Your flesh is growing. It's a constant war between your wall between your flesh and your spirit. And when your flesh is continuously hungry, you gotta make sure you're only feeding your spirit. It's so important. It's so important. And a lot of people don't look at it like that. A lot of it comes down to because some people in this world, I've been one of them, you probably have too. Man, you could you find comfort in some things. And when you find comfort, you don't understand that comfort is the enemy of greatness. Comfort is the enemy of effectiveness. Comfort is the enemy of getting things done. Comfort is exactly what kills a plan and a dream. And comfort, man, will kill all the aspirations that men can have to do something greater than themselves. I try my best to find myself on days where I don't get comfortable. Like I still do some construction, even though I retired as a contractor, I still do construction. And it's, you know, there's so many days where I'm like, man, I would like to get to where I don't have to do this anymore. But at the same time, that's very much a part of me. And so on the days that I know I don't have nothing lined up, it's really good for me to go and do that. One, to show that I still got it. Two, because my hands still enjoy it. I really like putting things together. But also three, I don't want to lose what I've already learned. I don't want to ever not be good at something. You know what I'm saying? So we got to move forward in these moments when we have no idea what to do. Don't just do nothing. Start working an effective plan. Check it off step by step and celebrate that. It is so important. So important. You know, sometimes there's some milestones that we need to reach in our life that we've been putting off. Well, I mean, sometimes we're struggling just to read one chapter a day or even one verse. But what if you had nothing to do and no plan? Why don't you go ahead and put that in there? Something small, like the book of James. I encourage everybody to bring the read the book of James. The book of James, we call it the Doer's Book, is so important. Man, I love that book. Love it. It really speaks to what men should be and what men should do. I love it. And it starts off with some of the greatest stuff. Count it all joy. When you go through various trials and tribulations. Count it all joy. Well, how do you find joy in boredom? How do you find joy in the mundane? That's what can it, what can it produce? Well, I could turn anything around I want to because not the problem, it's my attitude always about the problem. So in those days in the mundane and the stuff that seems routine, the stuff that seems like it's meaningless, the stuff that seems like, man, it's just not going nowhere. I'm not getting anything done. All I gotta do is back up and be like, you know what? I can make a plan to make the most of this situation. There's things I've been putting off. There's things I've been wanting to do, there's things I've been wanting to try. So why not go ahead and do that? Make a plan. Why not in that plan also add, hey, call a friend? Why not in that plan say, hey, go visit a buddy? Take them to lunch. Or take them lunch. Just show up with lunch. That's even more that's even more awesome. Or show up with breakfast. You know, I got some brothers, man, that's what they do for me and I do for them. Man, we just show up randomly with something. With something. One, it says you care. Two, it also says I'm willing to invest in you because you bought them something. And three, it also says, hey, man, you know, not do I care about you, but Mal actually had you on my mind today. And look, they don't even know if you did it because you're just trying to get you off your mind. But that's fine. That's fine. What if you did write it down? Hey, I want to go visit so-and-so today. Guess what? You went out of your way to make a plan and then you made it happen. That's something to celebrate. And why not celebrate it with a lunch? Why not celebrate it with a with a pink cake from your friends that know you hate pink, but yet they show up with a pink cake because they love you and they don't mind making fun of you in front of everybody because they love you. That stuff is hilarious. But that stuff is necessary. They they they went out of their way to do something that may seem ridiculous, but it means a lot. That's what we do on those days when there really ain't nothing else to do. Might as well do something fun, do something meaningful, even in the smallest increment. It's so huge. So huge. This life is not meant to be walked out alone. It's not meant to be lived as bored. You know, the thing is, Christians need a sense of adventure, they need a sense of humor, they need uh, they need a playfulness, they need a cheerfulness, we need to be uh uh generous, we need to be considerate. There's a whole lot of stuff that comes with this life that you just can't treat it as, oh, I'm just going through the motions. This life, the Christian life, is so exciting, it's never a go through the motions things. And if you find yourself just going through the motions, I'm gonna tell you right now, you're not doing it right. Not are you doing not doing it right, but more than likely you're disconnected in an area. Because the disconnection always leads to discontentment. And if you're discontent in your life, then there's something that's not connected. And if there's something that's not connected, you'll find out real quick, you're gonna do things out of duty or out of mundane. And if you do it out of those two things, it's not gonna be fun no more. And it's not gonna be joyful. And if you don't have the joy in it, you'll stop doing it. It's for the joy of what it produces, not the joy of the pain, not the joy of the suffering. It's not even, I mean, the first time, first few times you go and spend some money on somebody or trying to trying to do things for them, it's not really joyful because you're like, man, that cost me something. But when you realize what it produces in your life, that it produces the goodness of God in your life, then all of a sudden you're like, you know what? I felt good. I don't mind doing that. I don't mind doing that. And it's not even so much filling needs. It's like I said, just show up with a cake when they're when it's something worth celebrating. It's show up with a breakfast sandwich, it's it's show up with a smile, or even uh uh one of our newest things is uh we got a seven brew in our town now, and I show up with an orange sherbet milkshake. I mean, it's awesome. But does it really does it really mean anything? No, it's just orange sherbet, it's just a milkshake. But what it does for that person on the time when I'm just like, hey, I'm bored, I gotta go get something, I gotta go do something. I'm killing my time now. I'm like, oh, while I'm killing my time, let me lift up another brother. Why not? That's so important. So important to take all these moments that could be moments that are just blah. Moments are just like, oh, I got nothing to do but to sit here and and sit or scroll through my phone or nap or whatever. Man, we don't need to let those moments pass us by. Every moment we could do something to inspire someone else, to lift another brother up, to get some stuff done, to start knocking the list off that you've been putting off on your honeydo list. Anytime that we could do that and utilize what we call spare time wisely, because nobody says you have to knock out the whole list in one day, but do something. Do something. When you're in the waiting, be preparing. When you're in the waiting, be praying. When you're in the waiting, ask God for direction. When you just don't know what to do, ask God for direction. It's the best thing you can do. Best thing you do. Always always look for direction and then walk that direction once you hear it. It is so important. So important. Guys, I pray that talks like this actually help you. They have helped me in my life. To listen to great people in my life, make a world of difference in my life. And so I've been able to take pieces and snippets of people along my journey, people that's supported my life because I'm telling you, I'm listening to them and I'm and I'm I'm inspired by a lot of people. I've got some great men of God in my life. Uh, I got a huge band of brothers around me. And man, is it so important? But I'm taking the words they say and I'm applying them to my life every day. Uh every day. And what I'm doing with those is also I compiled them into a book. And uh this book is fixing to be released. Uh it actually uh we'll we'll we'll keep you all posted on this book. It's called Words That Work. Uh, it's it's uh it's a done deal. It's already been sealed and signed. We're excited for it. It's fixing to come out. And uh we encourage you guys to look on our website. We'll we'll post the uh pre-order date and the on-sale date and all that stuff. You'll be able to check it out. It'll be on our website, men'sfightclub.net. You'll be able to also access it through Facebook. Uh, these are words that have encouraged my life, and a lot of them are my mentors, a lot of them are my peers, a lot of them are the guys that I mentor myself, and then such great men of God throughout the centuries, and just great uh figures, icons of this age that that you know had some great influence, like Albert Einstein and Winston Churchill and you know, like C.S. Lewis. I mean, great inspirational people to have quotes that actually motivate us towards good deeds and good works, and that's what the Bible says for us to do. Whatever we could do, as long as it's life-giving words, it's awesome. So that's what this book is about. And so we encourage you to get you a copy of it. Um any questions that you have about this podcast or how we operate here or what you'd like to do, I'd like to get you on this podcast one day, probably. We get phone calls from Japan and from Hawaii and from Nevada and from Mexico all the time on how big of an impact this has made. And so far, currently, I'll just tell you right now, I'll tell you today's stats because we get our stats every week for uh Men's Fight Club for our podcast, and I can tell you right now, what you're doing matters, and all you listeners have contributed to making this go global. So, guys, we appreciate you tuning in. Look forward to having more and more days like this.
