A bunch of hunters walk into Australian hunting trivia with the same game plan: guess confidently and hope Google backs us up. It’s brothers versus brothers, the trash talk starts early, and the score swings on questions that sound simple until you realize Australia plays by a very different set of rules.

We dig into the surprising reality of deer hunting in Australia, including how many deer species were introduced and successfully established, and why their antler casting timing feels upside down compared with Canada. From there we jump to deer seasons and year-round opportunities in certain states, plus how “invasive” versus “protected” changes everything. If you’ve ever searched for Australian deer hunting seasons or wondered what animals are even out there, this is the fast, funny primer you didn’t know you needed.

Waterfowl hunting brings some of the most practical takeaways: a nationwide 2024 ban on lead shot, a hard rule you’re not allowed to break while birds are in the air, and how limited public land access can be depending on the state. Then we hit the truly unique stuff: banteng hunting (and why Australia is the only place you can legally do it), the truth about recreational crocodile hunting, and the dingo problem that helped create one of the longest fences on Earth. We even end with a jaw-dropping invasive species fact that will change how you think about rabbits, feral cats, wild pigs, and land damage.

If you like hunting podcasts that mix real regulations, wildlife management, and laughs, hit play, share it with a buddy who loves trivia, and leave a review so more hunters can find the show.

Feel free to reach out. Some of you guys have been, it's been great talking with you from all over. So, boys, I'm super fired up. Tonight is the first time ever we've got brothers against brothers. Is this the Civil War? No, it's Hunts on Outfitting Podcast trivia. And we're gonna go around the room, you're gonna say who you are, what you do for work, and if you want, you can say it in your Australian accent because that's the trivia, right? So I'll I'll go first like Om Ken Ma. You know, I'm the host of this podcast. Uh you know, I'm a truck driving podcast in Fama. All right, Scott, you give her a world.

SPEAKER_04

I'm Scott McKellow. What do you do for work, Scott? I work on diamond drills.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Like you make drills that have diamonds on them?

SPEAKER_04

No.

SPEAKER_00

I'm a driller helper. Okay. Perfect. See, that narrowed it down a bit more. It's good. Oh, and say how much you know about Australia hunting trivia.

SPEAKER_03

Zero. Zero.

SPEAKER_00

All right.

SPEAKER_03

Uh Lane Lewis and work for the city of Moncton. Yep. And I know zero about hunting in Australia.

SPEAKER_00

Australian accent, please. No, thank you. Close enough.

SPEAKER_02

Uh all right. Dave McKellup. I am uh work at a potash mine out in Saskatchewan, and I know zero about hunting in Australia. Perfect. Denver Lewis. I work at Thermal King Eastern Canada, and I know zero about Australian hunting.

SPEAKER_00

How the fuck did you guys come out tonight? You knew it was Australian. No, I want people at home to realize this because like when we did the turkey one, so people were like, I don't know anything about turkey, and neither did anyone playing. You guys all learned a lot. Uh so Dave, this is exciting. So this will be your fourth time on the podcast, but first time in person. So we're fired up and happy to have you here. And also, Ryan with Salius is in here. Ryan doesn't have his own mic. Ryan is helping with uh some fact-checking because where we are diving into a very unknown territory, um, we might need some fact-checking help. So there'll probably be there'll probably be some questions because it's unique hunting there. I actually had a hard time coming up with questions in a way because Australia is so big and vast in all these different territories. So it'd be like, when does deer season start in Canada? Well, it depends on what province, right? So I did, but I did keep it broad. Uh yeah, so Dave said this your fourth time, I think. First time in person.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, first time in the flesh. Yeah, this is my Aussie accent, too, by the way.

SPEAKER_00

I I I could tell instantly, like, man, this guy came prepared. Um, and then uh and then you're going against brother Scott. Scott, uh seasoned vet on the trivia. How many wins? How many losses?

SPEAKER_04

I think uh got two losses and one win, I think.

SPEAKER_00

Looking to get looking to get another one, another one tonight. So, what are you guys playing for? Well, I'm glad you asked. So uh we've got two different prizes. The first one is Custom Turkey Calls from River's Edge Game Calls from our very amazing sponsor, Kenneth McDonald, that makes these. He makes turkey calls, he makes custom-made buck grunts, he's getting into duck and goose calls, he makes turkey uh diaphragm calls, which are these. He makes turkey uh pot calls, shits all over North America. So River's Edge Games calls. Shut up and blow. No, that's not his thing. I think I saw that a bumper sticker. Or it's on a actually, I think it was like a National Geographic prison thing. It's like cell block B or something like that. That was like the slogan. And then also, we've got because winter is coming, I know it's hot right now and stuff, but we've got Enookshuk Tukes. Enookshuk Dog Food Tukes. Dave, you feed that, right?

SPEAKER_02

I think everyone, pretty much everyone in this room feeds it because you know it's yeah, a lot of guys actually I hunt with, they're they're using it too out there. So pretty popular.

SPEAKER_00

Well, it's gonna keep your dogs going. There's such a great variety, they use natural ingredients, all locally sourced, and they ship all over North America and they ship to trusted resellers, so you're not paying those big box store prices, and they're gonna keep uh keep your prices low. So, and they'll ship dog food. So that's what you guys are playing for. Now, the rules are I'm gonna ask you guys questions. I'm gonna ask the first team questions. If it's an A, B, C or D one, uh, that team will have an amount of time in my head that I decide that they think they can have to answer that question. If they don't get the right answer, it goes on to the other team. That team can gain their point, the other team cannot lose a point. There's a few true and false in here as well. Discuss out loud with your partner what you're thinking. Show your work out loud. All right? Talk a lot. Okay, Scott? Can you manage that for me tonight? Um, and uh so if anyone's disputing any of these answer stuff, I got them all off Google as usual. So they're true. They're true, because it's off Google, it's on the internet, it's gotta be true. Now, the teams and the names and why you guys are sitting where you are. So I'm gonna start off before I tell you by asking a question. Lane, your brother's sitting across from you. Who, if you had to guess, would be your mother's favorite child? Denver. Denver, right. Scott.

SPEAKER_04

Golden children.

SPEAKER_00

Scott, the golden Scott, talking to your mic, would you? Scott, if you had to guess, who would your mother's favorite child be?

SPEAKER_04

Dave's widely known as the golden child in our family.

SPEAKER_00

And and I find Dave and Denver, you know, you hear that from their brothers, and but they're a little more milder. And then you, Scott and Lane, you guys are a little more outspoken, I find, the not as favorite childs. In your words, so I've got team Golden Childs against Team Not So Mild.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, there should have been Team Mama's boys.

SPEAKER_00

All right, the shit talk begins. So the team Golden Childs are Denver and Dave, and the not so milds are Lane and Scott.

SPEAKER_01

So turn this room into a wrestling ring here.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, if you guys hear some thumping and going on the audio, uh, there's probably a fight.

SPEAKER_03

We actually did have mild bets, but there might be a wrestling match at some point tonight.

SPEAKER_00

We'll get the audio. Denver, Denver's talking shit. It wouldn't be much of a wrestling match. He looks like he wants to fight.

SPEAKER_05

I said, How much is the bet?

SPEAKER_00

Um, so I thought these were very appropriate team names. So we're gonna go with team not so mild, Lane and Scott, with the first question.

Quick Australia Hunting Reality Check

SPEAKER_00

All right. But before we get into it, so Australia hunting, with a population of about 26 million and around 640,000 recreational hunters. There is certainly lots of hunting to be done. Especially since Australia is the sixth largest country by area, it can fit the entirety of Western Europe inside its borders. In 2022, yeah, get this. I thought I put this one fact in here. In 2022, a 77-year-old man was killed by a kangaroo he was keeping as a pet. That was the most recent case of someone killed by one. You guys imagine? Killed by a kangaroo. But you you know, I always thought Australia too. Imagine the first person discover a kangaroo, because you know, they're cute, they're kind of cute looking and hoppy and all that. You imagine the guy be like, Oi, Mick, get a load of this little cute little bugger. You know, like crocky, just kick rot my dangle dude. Like, you wouldn't I don't know what I don't know what you'd think. They're vicious, they're quite vicious. So, anyways, I actually have a joke that'll save for later. Um, I'll take it. So, so this guy, so this guy goes into this bar, right? And he's got his crocodile with him. The bartender goes, Oi, Mike, you can't have that in here. And he's like, nah, nah, I said it rockin' I can. He said, This he has a tame croc. He's like, go on. He's like, look at this. He's like, take my wainer out, stick it in his mouth. He's have his mouth open, he won't come down on it to tame croc. He's like, Does anyone else want to try? And then there's this drunk guy down the bar. He's like, Yeah, give I reckon I give her a go, but I don't think I can hold my mouth open for that long. All right, so it's probably happened. Um, so question one. How

Deer Species Introduced Down Under

SPEAKER_00

many species of deer have been introduced to Australia? This is for teen, not so mild. How many species of deer have been introduced to Australia? A three, B, four, C six, or D two?

SPEAKER_04

If you guys had to guess, because you know the mustache looks like it wants to answer.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know. Scott, what are you thinking? Did you know that there's deer in Australia?

SPEAKER_03

Is there any native deer there? Because it's like deer introduced.

SPEAKER_00

No, not to my knowledge. They're all introduced. Yeah. Well, it says how many species of deer have been introduced. No, there's no native deer, to my knowledge. So three, four, six, or two.

SPEAKER_03

I don't know, three or two, probably. Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Three? Sure.

SPEAKER_00

Going with three? Well, boys, guess what? I'm not sure who gets the first mark on the board, but it won't be you. Um so we're going to team Golden Childs. How many species of deer have been introduced to Australia?

SPEAKER_02

I was really banking on getting wrong, so we have a 33.333% chance here.

SPEAKER_00

Alright. Well, Dave's gonna show off, apparently. He's good at math, we can. Swing the mic, boys.

SPEAKER_02

I think we should go low. I think low too.

SPEAKER_00

What did they say? What did you guys say again? Three. Oh shit, that's right.

SPEAKER_02

Bump it up a notch? Four. Did you look at Ken? Did you give in hints or anything?

SPEAKER_00

So four, six, or two. How many species of deer have been introduced?

SPEAKER_02

It looks like Texas, they can introduce as many as they want. I think so, yeah. Four? Let's go four. Four. Four.

SPEAKER_00

Swing it. Four? Four. Swing it to me. Four. Okay. You guys got that wrong as well. Yeah. So it's down to 50-50, so I'm not, I'm gonna say. So the answer is six, believe it or not. Six deer have been introduced there. Six species of deer. Yes, six deer total. They're not doing too well with the cross. Um 29 introduced there. Free ranging probably out of roughly Yeah, so more have been introduced, but there's a total of six that have successfully been established. So that's when you're there.

SPEAKER_03

So that wasn't classify that one.

SPEAKER_00

How many species? So Ryan had just showed me that more have been introduced there, besides the six, but these are the six that are still remaining, that are still there, that are still huntable. So um six. The chit chital deer, also known as the Indian spotted deer, they typically have three timed antlers. Uh there's the hog deer, similar to the chittel. The range they range from a dark brown in the winter to a rich reddish brown in the summer. The sambar deer, this is the largest species found in Australia, usually a wide variety of antler configurations. Uh these ones weigh around 600 pounds, so pretty big deer. The Rusa deer, very similar to the sambar deer, but smaller size and three-timed antlers. The red deer, the second largest species in Australia at about 160 pounds to 220, uh, usually come out of velvet in February. And the follow deer, the most common species of deer in the world, also the most widespread in Australia. So it's yeah, so those ones that were introduced and successfully been breeding and they're still in existence there today. It can be hunted. Uh they're unique looking, like the three antlered ones and stuff, they're just it looks like a weird elk sort of. Nothing fancy, the antlers are very, very plain Jane. Um Alright, so we're off to a rough start,

Antlers, Seasons, And Deer Rules

SPEAKER_00

but that's okay. Uh next question. So this is teen golden childs. Most all deer species in Australia shed their antlers when. Is it A, late January, February, B, July, August, C, September, October, or D November, December. So most all deer species in Australia shed their antlers when you're gonna have to say the dates in the right. Yep. So is it l A A is late January, February, B is July, August, C is September, October, and D is November, December. Now, a quick fact, Lane, you want to tell us here in Canada, typically, when do deer shed their antlers?

SPEAKER_03

Anywhere between December to March. December or March, yeah. All depends on the deer and the area they're in. Roughly.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. So then Australia, completely different place. Some people would say their deer kind of upside down compared to ours. Other side of the world. Uh when do you think they would? Very different climate.

SPEAKER_02

Ready to give them a hint, Ken. Take them closer to July, August. What are you thinking? Is that what you got? Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

July, August? Yeah. You guys going with that? Why are you guys going with that?

SPEAKER_02

It's not November, December.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. No, that's it's it's not. You guys are 100% right now. Alright. No, you're 100% right. It's not then, and you're also 100% wrong on it. Uh so team, not so mild. You guys have a chance to steal it. What are you thinking?

SPEAKER_03

Well, remaining dates. He was talking earlier about one of the deer shed and velvet in February. So they wouldn't be shed and velvet right away after they drop, because they have a growing period. So what's the remaining ones? September, October?

SPEAKER_00

Uh November, December, September, October. They said July, August, which it's not that, or January, February.

SPEAKER_03

So if they're shed and velvet in February, my guess would be like September, October. Good guess.

SPEAKER_00

Anything to add to that, Scott?

SPEAKER_04

I'm with Lane.

SPEAKER_03

It's a very good guess.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, it's a very good guess.

SPEAKER_03

Because they'd have to drop in September and they'd have a four-month growing period before they shed velvet. I like a shed. Yeah, we'll go with September, October.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I guess I still am not putting a mark on the board. Um, it is. It is. Ah, we got one! Yeah, no, it is. It is September, October. September, October is when they cast them and then regrowth begins almost immediately. So that's something quite different than North American deer, where they don't start growing for months later.

SPEAKER_03

Well, they technically start growing right away. You can't see them till like No, because that's what pushes the antler off, is the new growth.

SPEAKER_02

You're talking elk lane.

SPEAKER_03

What?

SPEAKER_02

Elk will push off the antlers. Yeah, whitails don't. It goes by testosterone, right? It doesn't really go by yeah, the elk will actually push off the antlers.

SPEAKER_00

So whitetailed deer though, it goes by testosterone. Yeah. Drops the antlers come out.

SPEAKER_02

Kind of when they lose nutrient in their testosterone.

SPEAKER_00

Because they drop it, say late March at the latest, and they we start seeing them when June.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. They'll all grow at the same time, but like if you're shed hunting for elk, you won't find anything till spring.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Yeah. There you go. So um, but yeah, with these deer though in Australia, it begins right away with the deer species there. Yeah. Alright, so uh we're on team you guys?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah the golden boys, isn't it? No, no. Uh we just took their question and answered it right.

SPEAKER_00

No, you're the golden child, Scott.

SPEAKER_04

Just showing that um being mama's favorite doesn't win the prizes.

SPEAKER_03

Um We haven't won yet, Scott. Relax.

SPEAKER_05

We got one question right. All right, boys.

SPEAKER_00

So team not so mild. This is a this is uh easier one. We'll go through this one quicker. True or false? Excluding Tasmania, New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia have year-round deer hunting. True or false. Scott?

SPEAKER_04

Do I have to answer this one?

SPEAKER_00

Well, you just bit did a big saw. You must have something going on with it.

unknown

I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

Like when they drop their antlers, I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

Would you hunt deer that drop their antlers, Scott?

SPEAKER_03

He'd hunt deer no matter what. I don't think it matters.

SPEAKER_00

Would you yeah.

SPEAKER_04

I think they do. Year round.

SPEAKER_00

I'll I'll give us a Why do you think that, Scott?

SPEAKER_04

I don't know. It's hot year-round there. It's hot here, we can't hunt deer. You guys going with that? I don't know. I really don't know. What do you what do you think?

SPEAKER_00

That's the only reason. Can they hunt deer year round everywhere but Tasmania? True or false.

SPEAKER_03

I don't know.

SPEAKER_04

To me, I'd say no, saying it seems like an oddly specific question too. I know. Everywhere's but Tasmania. Like we knew something about Tasmania.

SPEAKER_00

Well, you can't in Tasmania, but can you in New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia?

SPEAKER_03

Whatever you think.

SPEAKER_00

True. True? Well, true that, brother, because you guys got another mark on the board. Yeah, so actually you can't, true. There is also no bag limits because they're introduced in Invasive species, except the hog deer have a strict season in Victoria, but you can still hunt your round. Unlike other deer species in Victoria, the hog deer are protected or a protected resource under the Wildlife Act of 1975 because of dangerously low numbers in the mid-19th century or 20th century. So it's still yes. It's still yes. Awesome. Cool. I know, like Australia,

Waterfowl Laws And Lead Shot Ban

SPEAKER_00

it's got weird I don't know, there's some weird hunting laws and stuff. And you guys are going to find out some more. So team Goldenchilds, you guys are only down by two. We're going to get you guys on the board. In 2024, this was prohibited from being used in all states and territories in Australia for waterfowl hunting. Is it A decoys? B mouth calls, C pop-up blinds slash ground blinds, or D lead shot. In 2024, this was prohibited in all states and territories in Australia for waterfowl hunting. And I'm going to give you guys I'm going to say this to you. This was my friend. This was something quite recent.

SPEAKER_02

There's one obvious one. The other three I'm not sure.

SPEAKER_00

But I'm going to give you a hint this was something quite recent.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, more recent.

SPEAKER_00

Well not as much, Scott.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, what's called on the phone.

SPEAKER_00

That seems the busy signal ends.

SPEAKER_04

She usually calls him right after she's done talking to me. You'll never believe what your brother just said. You probably won't.

SPEAKER_02

Say the answers one more time, Ken, please.

SPEAKER_00

Uh well, only once the answer, but uh so yeah, in 2022. Say the answer one more time. Yeah, so again, so this was recent because it was in 2024. Uh this was prohibited being used in all states and territories in Australia for waterfront hunting. A decoys, B, mouth calls, C, pop-up blind slash ground blinds, or D lead shot.

SPEAKER_02

What do you got, Denver? I want to say lead shot. That's the obvious one, but he's making me think too obvious. Yeah, he's making me think it's not at obvious.

SPEAKER_00

You guys always think I'm playing games, do you guys on this?

SPEAKER_02

You are playing games. Sometimes we are playing we're playing a game right now. Australian accent might come out a little weird.

SPEAKER_04

He is a little weird.

SPEAKER_02

Sometimes it might be a little late to the game with lead shot. Let's cover that one first.

SPEAKER_00

What are you going with? Lead shot. You guys are going with lead shot? Speaking about lead, I'm gonna get out this lead marker and put a mark on the board because yes, it is lead shot. And I, you know, it seems like the obvious one, but you think, yeah, so lead shot was prohibited in all states and provinces since 2024. That's pretty recent.

SPEAKER_03

I figured you just threw that in there and it would have been way before it.

SPEAKER_00

So I was trying to fuck with you guys a little bit, maybe you did a lot because three times. Yeah, but you think 2024, that really you think like we're in Canada and the North American one in the 90s. Was it in the 90s? Yeah. So I mean they Australia I find stricter with hunting rules and all that is what I found out. So for them to just put that in there in 2024, I was quite surprised. Yeah. It's funny. See, a lot of us when I think of Australian, you guys probably do too, growing up watching Crocodile Hunter, right? That's what you think about, and that's how I learned a lot of Australian stuff. Man, he was nuts. I was watching some videos before you guys came, actually, because he'd just be like, curse your work. Well, yeah, no, he'd be like, Crocky said, This here's the world's most venomous snorkel. He's like, you know, I'm just gonna grab him and tickle his balls with my horashes. He's like, no one else is dare to touch him. Like, man, he was nuts, but he he pulled it off. Um, all right, so until a stingrag at him. They have all things. Of all things. He's like, I have a guy with the jaws on that. He's like, yeah, he's like, I'm gonna shot a wart and his croc saws, jump on his back, tow a rope around him, and relocate him. So I would get my waffle and I'll reckon it'll work on him. Um that's what I learned. All right, so oh, Dave's popping in the Zen. It is getting serious.

SPEAKER_04

I'm swapping him out here.

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_04

Scott, you feel like that?

SPEAKER_00

Hopefully your mom knows that you do this because she's probably gonna listen to this, Dave. So now she knows.

SPEAKER_04

Cool! He was actually just giving him shit in his mouth before we came here.

SPEAKER_00

It looks like Dave's joined the not-so-model team getting out the golden child. Uh for all the moms listening to this, I will say that uh four out of the six people in this room do have sin sen. That's all I'm gonna say. Who's the fourth one? Lane. We're on the air.

SPEAKER_05

Um I probably got enough for everybody.

SPEAKER_00

All right, so we're on team uh not so mild. So another rule in all of Australia: hunters are not allowed to what while waterfowl hunting. Just kidding, there's an A and B C. Um, actually, there's only an A, B, and C. Shoot into a flock, shoot mallards, shoot on public land. Another rule in all of Australia. Hunters are not allowed to what while waterfall hunting. Shoot into a flock, shoot mallards, shoot on public land.

SPEAKER_03

I don't think you'd be public land.

SPEAKER_04

I I think the both the one that I get thinking is shoot into a flock. Yeah. Why are you thinking that, Scott? It just seems like a dumb thing to do, but you can do that.

SPEAKER_03

That's how I waterfowl hot and just eat in the middle and hope for the best. Not a good shot.

SPEAKER_00

Spray and prey.

SPEAKER_03

Am I right?

SPEAKER_00

Are you going with that?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we'll go with the flock.

SPEAKER_00

You guys going in with the flock? I'm gonna flock up another point with you guys. Yes, so it it uh I thought maybe you guys choose like the public land thing. They actually are really strict on public land for waterfowl hunting in Australia. Uh so shoot into a flock. Only three states allow waterfowl hunting on public land, though. Three. That's it. But yeah, you can not.

SPEAKER_02

It sounds like that's kind of the answer, too, though. Like yeah, we picked that one. Yeah, we picked that one.

SPEAKER_00

But this is in all of Australia, you can't shoot into a flock. In three states, uh only three states allow waterfowl hunting on public land. So yeah, they're

Banteng Facts Plus Latin Name Chaos

SPEAKER_00

strict. Um, okay, so team Goldenchilds, you guys still got some time. Question. Australia is the only place in the world where you can hunt this animal. A water buffalo, B wallabies, C, Hog Deer, or D. Fanting.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that's what I was gonna ask. What the fuck is that? I'll be doing some good.

SPEAKER_00

So Australia is the only place in the world you can legally I'm gonna say that, you can legally hunt this animal. Water buffalo, wallabies, hog deer, banting. If I'm saying that right. And a banting is similar to a water buffalo.

SPEAKER_02

I don't think it's water buffalo. I just don't know what the other ones are.

SPEAKER_00

Banting's uh wallaby is a uh like a kangaroo. Oh yeah. It's in the kangaroo family.

SPEAKER_04

Like a fat little ground beaver.

SPEAKER_02

I don't know if I like that. I do know like they call those over there. So I don't know if you would call it legally under demon, but I guess.

SPEAKER_00

They they call Kangaroo. Kangaroo. Kangaroo and wallabies are not the same. Similar. That'd be like calling a squirrel and a deer the same thing here, Dave. No, it's not like that at all.

SPEAKER_02

I'd fight a wallaby, just not a kangaroo. What was the last one? Banting.

SPEAKER_00

Banting, if I'm saying that right. B-A-N-T-E-N-G.

SPEAKER_02

Say it with the accent?

SPEAKER_00

Banting. And remember, this is a place in all the world where you can hunt this animal legally. Because when no one's looking, all animals legal. Crocky.

SPEAKER_02

Banting or wallaby. Are you thinking what was the other one?

SPEAKER_00

I guess hog, deer, and water buffalo.

SPEAKER_02

Hog deer and water buffalo. Oh, could be any of them.

SPEAKER_00

This is all the world. Which is interesting.

SPEAKER_02

I'll go banting, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Banting? Yeah. You guys said it wrong for one. No, I'm kidding. Uh, you guys are gonna be bantering down a point because that's right, this is pretty close actually. So, yeah, so Australia is the only place in the world to hunt these animals while critically endangered in their native Southeast Asia. The population is doing well in Australia. Oh, that was a fight. Uh the population is doing well in Australia. Bulls weigh about 1,500 to 2,000 pounds, uh, usually found in swamps. So, yeah, so they're taken from Southeast Asia, introduced to Australia, and they're doing so well that you can't even hunt them in their native country. You can hunt them in Australia. It's crazy. Uh, in their native country, they are used a lot, the ones that aren't wild, that ones they've domesticated, they use them a lot as like tractors there. Yeah. Okay, so this is this is still this is tight. The not so mild. And Ryan knows what kind of question I'm gonna ask here. Right, Ryan? It's the uh Greek and Latin. Yep. Greek and Latin. What is and fun fact, I made up all of these but one. So Ryan knows when we do stuff like this, I usually ask the Greek and Latin. So what is the Latin name for banting? Is it A Bovidae chord chordata? Is it is it B Bovidae Jaffa Jaffanicus? Is it C Boss Jaffanicus or D boss bovanose? Bovanose. Clear as mud. Scott, I'm gonna let you tackle this one first.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I just throw some hot in the dark there, Scott, because your guess is good as mine. Scott, lean in a bit.

SPEAKER_04

Ah, I like you to repeat that. I'm just gonna throw it up there. I'm gonna go with D. D? Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

You got really boss bamfanotes. Alright, I'll go with D, Ken.

SPEAKER_04

Whatever.

SPEAKER_00

Alright, which one is it boss? So you're going between C and D, so C is boss javonicus, and D is boss bovano.

unknown

No.

SPEAKER_04

Uh yeah, I don't know, man. You happy with that? I see.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, sure. Why did you choose C?

SPEAKER_04

It's just a shot in the dark, Cam.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, because it's just asking why you chose the right answer. Yeah, I just it is, it's uh so it's always guessed on the green light ones.

SPEAKER_03

I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

Fucking right. So yeah, Ryan knew I was gonna ask.

SPEAKER_04

So it it's it's boss logical answer, really. Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So it's boss javanuk javanucus, javanicus. Uh I thought you guys would do like the boss bovanuus, because like bovine.

SPEAKER_04

If I screw you up, I didn't even listen to them, to be honest. I just went with a letter.

SPEAKER_00

So boss javanucus, uh found in Australia in Southeast Asia, brought to Australia in the 1800s as a source of meat. Some of the largest wild herds in the world, though, are actually in Java, Cambodia, but you cannot hunt them there. But yes, Asia, that's where they're from. Okay. That was impressive. Uh just shitlock. Probably gonna go with that.

Crocodile Hunting Truth Versus Myth

SPEAKER_00

Well, it's still crossing right now, I have to score. Scott's green. Yeah. Uh so Golden Childs, true or false. You can legally hunt crocodile recreationally in Australia. True or false. Can you hunt crocodile recreationally in Australia?

SPEAKER_04

I know this answer. So don't get it wrong.

SPEAKER_02

Of course, Scott knows this answer. Well, if they get it wrong, nope shit, you're gonna get it right. He's gonna hammer it right after we answer it here.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

If there's kangaroo, I'd know the answer. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Wanna hand me a beer? Yeah. What you're thinking. Thanks.

unknown

Thanks.

SPEAKER_00

I'm not body slamming this one like you did to your brother. Alright, so can you recreationally hunt crocodile in Australia?

SPEAKER_02

What are you thinking? I'm thinking true. Thinking true? Maybe. I don't know what I'm thinking. It's either true or false. It's one of those two.

SPEAKER_04

Don't get it wrong though, because then we won't have to.

SPEAKER_00

No, if they get it wrong, yes, don't get it.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, that's bullshit.

SPEAKER_00

I think I have a good chance and they get it wrong. Talking to the Mike Boys, what do you what are you guys thinking? I mean, there's well, I'll help you out with it. I'll give you the answer. Um, no, but there's a lot of crocodile in Australia. Can you legally hunt them recreationally? You know, in the world where you can hunt them recreationally.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Florida. I wouldn't say no.

SPEAKER_00

Alligators. Alligators there. Crocodile. Yeah. Africa you can, for sure. Africa.

SPEAKER_02

I feel like it may be a calling thing too, where it wouldn't be recreational hunting, but I'm 50-50 within two, and that's our odds, so what are you thinking? Still thinking true?

SPEAKER_00

Why?

unknown

Shot in the dark.

SPEAKER_00

Shot in the dark.

SPEAKER_02

A lot of shots in the dark here.

SPEAKER_00

I know that's and that's that's all part of the fun. Uh, you guys are final answer?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

It is false.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, why'd you grab the marker like you're putting a mark for us? Because I screwed with things. I would have said I wasn't gonna smaller. Mine gains.

SPEAKER_00

So no, I I know you guys are coming with that. There's a lot, and they're looking at bringing it back. So false. Crocodile hunting was banned there in 1971 with over a hundred thousand crocs in the Nolan territory today, uh, because of uncontrolled trade in their skins before the ban, that number had fallen to nearly three thousand. So now there's a hundred thousand just in the Northern Territory, press the rest of Australia, because before 1971, it was 3,000 for all of Australia. Um, most salt water crocs in Australia are about 20 feet long and over a thousand pounds with the bite force the weight of a car. So they are looking at bringing back their tr well, there's a lot of uh politics behind it, but they want the government to bring back that rich trophy hunters can come shoot crocs because they've got so many, and the rangers can take them out and they're aborigines, but uh they they don't have any recreational hunting for them yet because but they're looking at because there's just so many, and the amount of people and crocodile interactions and attacks is going up dramatically. So still not bad. You guys, you know, it's still still anybody's game voice.

The South Australia Bow Hunting Ban

SPEAKER_00

Alright, so team not so mild. You guys are you guys are feeling good? South Australia has banned what? Lane. Lane Ethel Lewis.

SPEAKER_05

Just kidding.

SPEAKER_00

Alright, so is it A, bird hunting? South Australia, okay? A bird hunting, B, trapping, C, bow hunting, or D hunting at night. What has South Australia just South Australia banned? Bird hunting, trapping, bow hunting, hunting at night. Scott, lean into your mic and give us your thought process.

SPEAKER_04

You said lane first.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I've just seen if you had anything.

SPEAKER_04

I'll let him get his time. It's only fair.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you've been dead on, haven't you, Scott?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, Scott, back to you.

SPEAKER_03

I feel like it wouldn't be night hunting, because they can they shoot kangaroos at night.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Well, they're not even allowed to hunt kangaroos, I don't think, right? They're not even allowed to hunt kangaroos, are they? Yeah, they can't. I think it's only No, they can hunt them.

SPEAKER_00

So it depends on the pl on the place, but most places in Australia they are seen as this is a question later on, if you guys are thinking about that. Uh, they are seen as a pest. Like the farmers can go out and just blast them because there's so many of them.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, but I think it's like government and maybe farming. Like farming for certain animals.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I think they try to sell some hunts on them, but farmers definitely can. It's like consider pest, just like coons would be here.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, repeat those questions, those answers. Night hunting.

SPEAKER_00

Bird hunting, trapping, bow hunting, hunting at night. This is in South Australia.

SPEAKER_04

Hunting at night. The only reason I'd be thinking trapping is because they got like a platypus, and it's an endangered species.

SPEAKER_03

And when they're trying, you know, the things are trying to ban trapping everywhere.

SPEAKER_00

So fun fact, the platypus trades did the platypus and the echidna are the only two mammals on earth that lay eggs. Alright, go on.

SPEAKER_04

So that's my thought process. I'm down to those two.

SPEAKER_03

So no. Say trapping?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Trapping?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, trapping.

SPEAKER_00

Alright, let me just get this marker cover off and then put it back on because it is not trapping. But that's a good guess. Alright, so team Golden Childs. What is it? Bird hunting, bow hunting, hunting at night. South Australia has banned what? Just South Australia.

SPEAKER_02

I don't think it's bird hunting. Think hunting at night?

SPEAKER_05

That would be the moment.

SPEAKER_02

I think I would rub it in because that was their other one guest, too. So if we were rice, I think. Yeah, let's go with hunting at night.

SPEAKER_00

You guys go with hunting at night? Right on, but that's not it. Um I put the the bird hunting, the trapping, and the hunting at night, because I thought that these ones would stump you guys, and they did, right? So it's bow hunting. Three instances of individual ignorance involving. Are you raising your hand, Ryan?

unknown

Nope.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Bow hunting. Three instances of individual ignorance involving the injury of a police officer. And this I don't know how that happened. And the separate deaths of a domestic cat and a sea lion, all by compound bows and arrows, have resulted in South Australia government banning all bow hunting in the state.

SPEAKER_02

Would never happen at night.

SPEAKER_00

But you think about how random that is. There's a police officer shot, someone's cat, and a sea lion. They're like, nope, done. And probably in that old in the same night.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Way more has been shot with a gun than that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but it's like and that they banned bow hunting there over those instances. It's like, how did that turns out it's all one guy?

SPEAKER_03

Shot the blade. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

They're still let them run around with a boomerang, though.

SPEAKER_00

It's political, yeah. It's politically driven. But you imagine the police are like rocking my left butt cheek. He's killing me. It's like soar, mate. Just giving the old compound bow a bit of a workover. We're already here, a sea loin.

SPEAKER_05

Cat.

SPEAKER_00

And a mat line? It's a cat, mate. Crap. Yeah. The government's surely gonna ban this now. But I was like, that is random as shit. A cop, a cat, and a sea lion. Like, one of these things is not like the other. Alright. No, those were all those are all good answers and stuff. Yeah. Um I would have, you know, picked any one of them, but only one was the right answer, but the other ones made sense, you know. The trapping thing, good thing, because the aunties are they always go after the trapping. Whether it's in Canada, the US, or Australia, wherever, they go after the trapping, and the hunting at night thing and all that, too. You know, we can't have that here at all. So they actually have it some, so they're lucky. Am I on not so mild? No. Golden Childs.

Dingoes, Control, And The Dingo Fence

SPEAKER_00

All right, Golden Childs. This is another true or false. True or false. Yeah. You can hunt dingoes in all of Australia. True or false? You guys know what dingoes are? So dingos are Australia's version of uh Dingo stole my baby. Yeah, so that's we'll get into that. So that's what happens, Scott. You looked pregnant for a bit. Um, so dingoes are Australia's coyote, basically. Uh, some people call them feral dogs. They're not, they're dingoes. Um they're actually so the Australian blue healer, they are part border collie, part dingo, which is interesting. You can tell when you look at their ears and everything, because in the Australian Outback, they wanted a dog that was really tough and that could go after these cows. And the fan of the collie was pretty good, but it couldn't handle the heat that well. And they need something. mean to handle these cows that haven't seen human interaction in a year. So they bred border collars to dingoes. That got the Australian blue healer and they got a piranha kind of and it they're tough and they can handle the heat. And anyone that's listening to this that has a blue healer knows they are all teeth. Um so dingoes and then yes so there was a whole thing this woman lost her baby to a dingo and I think it was she got charged and all that with like they thought she actually killed her kid herself and blamed on the dog and everything and then it turns out that no and a dingo did go into this girl's tent and took their baby. Uh spoiler alert I killed it really yeah no actually guys have heard of the jungle book? The baby grew up to be Mowgli. No it died um sounds unfortunate.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah no that's a whole thing so true or false you can hunt dingos in all of Australia feel it should be true but I'm not I'm thinking true too it should be I just don't know if it'd be all of Australia it would be but is it all right we can hunt coyotes in all of Canada right?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah true true true well true that boys because you're getting a mark on the board so uh so true you can can hunt or control they call it dingos in all of Australia they're managed as pests the only place they are somewhat protected but you can still hunt them is Victoria. Besides it's false Victoria no Ryan it's true Tasmania you cannot hunt them at Tasmania Tasmania is part of Australia it's an island off of it. It's part of Australia but when I was doing the research for this it was saying in all of Australia true. I like your research can I like Ryan's research never wrong and apparently yeah well what is Ryan here for if he isn't here to fact check so Ryan's here for fact checking so when I typed it into Google I said can you hunt dingos in all of Australia? It said true so we're still going with true with that because when I typed in it said true you can they're manages past except except for Victoria they're somewhat protected there but not fully all the other places it's like wide open let them have it yeah classic Mama boys get the answer candidate I think I think they're candid favorite too that's like saying you can deer hunt and all at candy well when I when I typed it in there that's what it said so we're still your computer's wrong we're going with uh we're going with that so they are down by one if you guys get this right if you guys get this right you're just one point ahead if they get the next one right if we get this one right we're two points ahead yeah all right so team not so mild what was done around nineteen fifty eight to help deal with the dingo problem I'm gonna let you guys guess and I'll let you guys guess so what was done around nineteen fifty eight to help deal with the dingo problem and Ryan I like that you're doing the research for that while these guys are thinking of it but when I was on Google and I typed in can you do that like I said yes I can. If we're going with that I know Ryan but nope we're going with that there's none there. Well then you can't hunt them because there's none there exactly so you can't hunt it's still a parative none to hunt if there was some there you could hunt them you can't deer hunt in all Canada no we're still going with uh with the research done prior I'll show you after we're done this I'll turn my phone back off of airplane mode when I type it in it says true. Alright anyways boys were you guys thinking what we're not in England what was done what was done around 1958 to help deal with the dingo problem in Australia in Great Britain when you changed it up randomly not Australia okay I'm not giving you anything just tell me what what was done what do you think was done?

SPEAKER_04

They cut all their nuts off holy shit you're getting another point that's it up I guess oh was that that your final Lane looks like he's thinking hard Scott looks like he's looking at Lane either like night hunting or open season yeah I can see it open season for sure.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah that was my first thought like open season no bag limit that's what you're going with or paying people putting a bounty on could be a bounty said this was done 19 around 1958 to help deal with the dingo problem because it was a problem yeah we'll go with bounty bounty alright you guys want to go with point on the board is what you won't be getting it's not bounty so we're going to team golden childs what year do you say this was again around you're just gonna give them a point even if they get it wrong they can guess anything oh yeah you guys are right yeah yeah you're right yeah yeah they introduced the butterfly I was gonna say bounty actually so they took that oh nice it's good that they took that one first what would mom say you're probably right yeah I don't know like if they hire people out i'll I'll let this keep going I'll let you guys guess and then after you guys guess I'll let just back and forth if you guys want. Like it'd be the same like strict nine came in and out West for gophers gopher issue. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

What was that Dave speaking to the mic?

SPEAKER_02

Well like we they brought in like strict nine for gopher issues OT out West nine yeah like poisoning them. Wow so by the way you just put a question mark at the end of that I'm thinking it's not something like that but interesting 1958 around that war if you had to guess because you do yeah you're gonna force us what would they do?

SPEAKER_00

See I knew I I don't want to brag I knew about this in school and I was like that's interesting. I think I was watching a national geographic team you're gonna give them hints. Yeah alright that's all I'm saying you got anything here nothing besides hiring people out to go after them but government contractors they do that out west don't they uh I don't know in Canada and the US they definitely do for coyotes and wolves. Yeah they definitely do hire out government contractors guys have made a good living at it they do it in Australia you tell me I don't know we can go with it and try it. You guys going with government contractors? Sure yeah no alright so this I'm gonna let you guys just back and forth what was done around 1958 to help deal with the dingo problems just whatever you guys don't wait for them like whatever either side either side say something anything I'm gonna guess just open season poison nope nope trapping no is it that they introduced another animal no but Australia has done that uh fun fact so the Australian cane toad was brought in to deal with this other uh insect I can't remember what it was and they're like yeah we'll just bring in these cane toads and they'll kill this insect it turns out the cane toads didn't eat that insect and they took over and to this day Australia has a terrible problem with invasive cane toads really backfired you're stomping me here. Alright let me think of a hint um it was something in 1958 yeah around that day um it was something done by man that was a lot of work did the digital did they what did they fecchable crocodile just bit the knickers off with my teeth um took out that's a good hand yeah took out the nads uh no it wasn't that did the dig like pits for them the lure of the man or something like no like you're thinking like a man-made obstacle a fence that sounds like a horror movie what'd you say Scott a fench yep yep it's a fence it is a fence fence for what for the dingoes you fuck they fenced them all in no so this is interesting for the fucking Eastern fence over there that's what that left so this was done around 1958 because the dingos were costing it millions and millions of dollars worth of damage because Australia is known really well for their sheep their sheep farming and stuff and you know get the wool and they were just killing off so many sheep so they put the dingo fence it stands roughly 1.8 meters high using wire mesh steel posts and a buried base at 5,614 kilometers it is one of the longest man made structures on earth and I know you guys are thinking how long is the Great Wall of China come so it's not all it's like continuous but all together the Great Wall of China's about 21,000 kilometers which is pretty crazy. That's why 5,614 kilometers from Grand Prairie to here that's crazy. At its peak it was 8,600 at its peak it was 8,600 Ryan's saying yeah well now it's 5,614. So apparently there's some bingos in a few areas yeah that's fire so yeah so to put it in perspective for you Canadians listening that's from New Brunswick to Grand Prairie Alberta that's incredible. In 58 they would have pounded every post like yeah isn't that nuts but but yeah they just finished it last year they've been working on it for a while oh sorry they started it in 1958 isn't that incredible but it is costing them so much money and damage from the dingos that they they felt they had to put that up so imagine a fence being cheap world no it wouldn't have been cheap but it's still 10 times cheaper than what they're paying in damages. So they were saying that on I guess it's quite interesting if you go there and see on one side of the fence it's like all kinds of animals and lush grass and this that and everything else on the other side I guess it's like a barren desert like it's just a shithole I guess because the dingos just killed everything and stuff so yeah. Um alright what

Australia’s Most Damaging Invasive Species

SPEAKER_00

team are we on right now? Does it matter who that should be back and forth was no lane it's the golden child aka dish here's one because I've had one for you all night because it's a fucking trivia uh what invasive species in Australia causes the most damage is it a the rabbit b the feral cat c the feral dog or D the wild boar slash the feral pig so this is an invasive species 6,000 be the dingo is bad yeah no it's not the dingo they're native though aren't they? Yeah so all these animals here have been introduced the rabbit the the cat the dog and the boar by Europeans the dingo was introduced as well as or boar no uh no no no no they're native well boars are destructive yeah they're yeah that's what I was thinking yeah you were thinking guess that one rabbit wild boar cat dog rabbit so I know I said I called I called dingo's feral dogs earlier so people call them that but these are like actual feral dogs yeah there's there's both dogs there too isn't it go feral dogs? Yeah you're thinking feral dogs everything's feral dogs yeah no that's a good guess I like to guess this way go ahead you're on a you're on a streak keep going pigs gotta be pigs gotta be wrong uh it's not pigs well it's rabbits isn't it yeah why'd you think rabbit I don't know 50-50 guess um so I didn't know if you guys would get this or not so believe it or not the rabbit with an estimated two hundred and thirty nine million dollar per year lost in agriculture and horticulture damage affecting around three hundred native animals and plant species uh brought in eighteen fifty night for hunting so yeah the rabbits rabbits cost two hundred and thirty nine million in damage a year me and Ken will go up with the beagles take care of that man the beagle that'd be wild yeah so the yeah but out of the rabbit the cat the dog and the boar they all cause a lot but the rabbit was ahead by a fair amount

Winners, Prizes, And Sign-Off

SPEAKER_00

actually that's crazy. It is crazy I wouldn't purchase and a pig yeah no there yeah yeah um boys is actually a really close one that's all I got for questions team not so mild you won it's crazy did anyone see that coming to be your mama's favorite our moms didn't see that one coming yeah she didn't she bet on the wrong child uh that was good boys everyone I mean it it's tough no one knew anything here about Australia hunting so it's just still don't it's still yeah yeah still unsure of what I answered um so it's just a shot in the dark so Lane Scott good job Denver Dave good effort Ryan don't correct me on something like that again prize is prize is fun all right yes boys yes you guys get to share a call and believe it or not you put those in your mouth and test them first of course we want to know quality quality control all right boys till next time Scott tested out I'm alright joke on it
