I'm going to go ahead and get back to you, rhino. Let's start this week off with I don't think this is going to sound too good to your ears, mate the Punjab Kings. Oh yeah, that's right.
Speaker 2:I was just getting over that too. I mean, we were talking about the week prior how it was bad for us, and then obviously we came on air last week and we took that big bet of, I think, $17,000 on the King to win in the Indian Premier League. And the punter was right he got the biggies.
Speaker 1:Yeah, too good, too good. Well, found there by that punter. I think it was about $2.40 or $2.50 or something like that, yeah.
Speaker 2:I think so. Yeah, I think he took a couple of price I think $2.80, then came back and took a nibble at $2.40, then another nibble at $2.30 or something. So I think it averaged about, yeah, $2.48, something like that. But yeah, very, very keen on the Punjab Kings and yeah he Been on fire.
Speaker 1:The last couple of weeks we started a bit slow, a few of our tips went astray, but the last couple of weeks we have been on fire with steering the punters into the early money and some of the things that we've liked in the market. Just run us through. Last week, mate, we had the map.
Speaker 2:Yeah, that's right. Yeah, the map was excellent, Heavily backed. I mean. I think it was 240 when we were talking last week on Saturday. It's backed all the way into 175. So, yeah, it wasn't a great result from Chasebet's perspective, but it was obviously great for listeners that took that early mail listening to our podcast last week.
Speaker 1:And close to your home mate or your. What do you call it? Your hunting ground or your young hunting ground? Adelaide, adelaide v, port Adelaide.
Speaker 2:Well, yes, I grew up in the northern suburbs in the rough area of South. Australia. It shows. It does show, mate One. Look at me and it shows. It's clear as day. But you know Adelaide. Yeah, the early money was for Adelaide. I mean we didn't have a lot of money early on sports events, but that particular game was the one that we saw money for Adelaide and once again punters were right Adelaide defeating Port Adelaide in what most would probably consider a slight upset in that game. But the showdown can produce that.
Speaker 1:Mate, looking at last week, we'll stay with the AFL and we'll have a look at any variances in the markets as well. When you have a look at last week, what were the results? We saw Collingwood knock off Carlton and there was a lot of money for Carlton, right.
Speaker 2:Yeah, there was. We also had a lot of money on Collingwood and the Lions, so it sort of ended up being sort of a 50-50 sort of split on that particular game. The game that we probably benefited from was we saw a lot of money on GWS late against sydney and sydney at home.
Speaker 1:I thought gws were quite disappointing um the last three or four weeks we've been saying sydney unders, sydney are unders, gws deserve to be favorites. And then bang yeah, well, 29 it was.
Speaker 2:But I think sydney, like traveling, is the issue. When they go and play the mcg, I mean obviously they have that big win of four night ago there, but they do seem to struggle. When they go and play the MCG, I mean obviously they had that big win of Fortnite to go there, but they do seem to struggle when they go to Melbourne. But at home they seem to be a different side. But yeah, we took a lot of money on GWS late in the piece and obviously it was a good result for us to see Sydney actually get over the line in that particular game.
Speaker 1:So, with Collingwood winning Adelaide, obviously knocking off Port Adelaide, knocking off Port Adelaide May have seen some change or some further drift. In Port Adelaide we saw Sydney beat GWS. The other one that may have impacted the market is Melbourne beating Geelong by eight points. What's that done to the premiership market? Have we seen any movers? Who's sitting there at the top?
Speaker 2:Yeah, no, we haven't really seen anything. And I mean, you know, obviously Melbourne aren't a bad side, and I mean you know, obviously Melbourne aren't a bad side, and I mean, if anything, I think Melbourne are the ones that are firm. So we're just having a look here. So yeah, sydney Geelong, both equal favourites at the old $11 to $2, $5.50. Gws $6. Melbourne $7. Carlton $8. Collingwood $21. Port Adelaide they're now equal with Fremantle on the same line at $21. And then ultimately, even further away, is Essendon at 34. So, yeah, I mean your side. They sort of showed a little bit at the start of the year, western Bulldogs, and they've dropped right out of calculations now?
Speaker 1:Are Adelaide some kind of rough hope, do you think? Do you think they can scrape into the eight and just be one of those bogey teams? I don't know if they're going to be consistent enough this year to win it, but they've kind of been one of those sides that when they show up, they show up, don't they? And they're 60, what are they? $67?.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I just can't see it. I just, you know, I just can't see it. They're $67 and I mean it very well could pan out that way that you're saying, but they just don't look solid enough. I don't think they coach well enough. I think they're lacking. I think they've been trying to build for years and I think they're still lacking depth in the midfield. Ultimately, you know their full forward's getting older as well. I just can't see Adelaide really performing. I thought Port Adelaide would have been a good season. They've been really disappointing.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I agree, I thought that at the start of the season as well. So, mate, shifting, shifting focus. There we move over to the NRL and, as always, there's a variance of results. In the NRL, we saw the Dolphins knock off the Cowboys. What else we said? We see the Knights knock off the Warriors again. Chase Betts hearing on the Warriors every week to get beaten on the back of that $2,000 bet. What was the money Like? Where was the big money there? And was it a Chase Betts win this week, or did the punters get the better of us?
Speaker 2:No, it was sort of a square off again in the league this week, which is better than the week before, where we got cleaned up. Ultimately, the Titans pushing the Storm was really good because a lot of people took the Storm on the line. Obviously, the Broncos were fancied against the Roosters and the Roosters gave the Broncos an absolute touch-up, which was probably a shock to many. The one result that we did do well on was obviously the Seagulls versus the Raiders. There was a lot of money for Manly and the Raiders knocked them off and I'd like to mention that, with you being such a Good week last week, good week.
Speaker 1:last week for me, Canberra and Hawthorne taking us out. Wow yeah so I had to mention that.
Speaker 2:But then they did actually catch up. There was some good money for the Knights over the Warriors and the punters were right there and then once again backed it up. We saw a lot of doubles in those Sunday games of the Knights into the Sharks and the punters got the biggies there.
Speaker 1:What's it done to the premiership market? I'm assuming, with the Roosters beating the Broncos and just the mannerism that they did it, that there would have been a little bit of a shift.
Speaker 2:Well, the Roosters have tightened up and Penrith's also shortened because of that. So Penrith are now clear favourites at $3, or the old 2-1. Brisbane Broncos at $9-2, $5.50. Melbourne Storm $5.50. Sydney Roosters $6.50. And then further out to Cronulla Sharks at $10. And then we get out to Manly at $17. But once again those four or five sides clearing right out from the remainder of the field and we're seeing Penrith Panthers, the clear and dominant favourites for this year's 2024 NRL.
Speaker 1:And this week mate in both AFL and Rugby League have we seen any early money we can steer the listeners into?
Speaker 2:Yeah, we have. Actually. We've seen some good money on the AFL. Ultimately. We've seen some good money on the afl. Ultimately. We've seen some good money on freemantle to defeat sydney um, which is which is once again, I think, playing off that adage of sydney traveling. So I think there has been some money around freemantle to see to be sydney um. Where we've actually seen a really good money is on, uh, the gws to bounce back and beat s and then. So we've seen some really good bets at the line at minus 7.5 and also head-to-head on GWS to beat Essendon. They're $1.60 versus $2.35.
Speaker 1:Not a bad little double there. You probably could get close to just under $4 if you want to take the double there as well. The free mantle into GWS and we've seen it all season. The early money has been very, very sharp so far.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it has been very, very close, very, very close. If they're not getting it. They're missing out only by a goal or so. And yeah, you might be right. Free medal at 225, maybe in a DWS at 160, might be a very good multi for the listeners out there, for sure.
Speaker 1:Mate NRL. Where are we heading with the NRL? Where's the money? Is there any money in the Thursday night game? I think that's an intriguing one with the Dolphins versus the Seagulls. Yeah, we have.
Speaker 2:We've taken a $4,000 bet on the Dolphins at $2.15. We've also taken a $7,000 bet on Manly Seagulls at $1.70. So pretty much you know, that's where the early sort of larger bets have come. So it's pretty chop-chop, isn't it? Really? It's just a chop-out. What we have seen, though, is some interesting money in the Melbourne Storm-Cronulla Sharks game. We've seen some really good early money bets of $1,000, $1,500 on the Sharks to roll the Storm, so that there's a surprise for me, but we have seen that money come in for the Sharks at $2 to defeat Melbourne Storm at $180.
Speaker 1:Top of the table clash. Who would have thought, come what are we into round 10, who would have thought that it would have been Shark sitting number one, storm number two in this round, playing on Saturday night? What a ripper.
Speaker 2:Yeah, we'll be absolutely cracking game that I think that's probably why we're seeing some early money, because it is such a good game. But you're really quite surprised to see the amount of early larger style bets that we have seen on the Cronulla Sharks.
Speaker 1:Mate we switch to Greyhound Racing and just before we talk about the Harrison Dawson and the Sapphire Crown at Sapphire tomorrow night, last week was the running of the 7.15, the world's richest staying race half a million dollars, and it went to Val Polichella. Congratulations to Sandro and to trainer Tony Zemet. What was it like the betting? Where was the money? Was Val Polichella a winner? Was it a loser? For Chase Bet, what did we see as far as the activity on that event?
Speaker 2:Well, luckily, thankfully, the pilot myself. I had to go to, you know, just had to go. It was one of those things too the sportsman's lunch for the 7.15 here in Newcastle at the Merriweather.
Speaker 1:How many sacrifices do you make working for Chasebet mate?
Speaker 2:It's just tough, mate, the sacrifices you have to do. And you know we were there. And it was obviously sponsored by a competitor bookmaker. And of course I had to make sure that Chase Beck got on the list. And the first two names drawn out for the Calcutta were Chase Beck and Chase Beck, and thankfully one of them was Val Polichella, and that was just beautiful to see that one of our competitors had to stick a sign up saying that Chase Beck drew Val Polichella on their webpages. That was just brilliant. So we had a good laugh about that, didn't we?
Speaker 1:Al, absolutely mate, and of course one of our punters was involved in that as well, right.
Speaker 2:Absolutely, yeah, yeah, so we decided to sell it with a cow cutter. You buy tickets you get a draw and then people buy them. It becomes an auction, et cetera, et cetera. And one of Chasebet's own punters happened to buy a Valpoliceella back off of Chasebet and of course we're both winners out of that, with Val Polichella winning. And, yes, there was money for Val Polichella, but we held some really good money on the one that we spruced last week, ritz a Rider each way we said all day and Ritz a Rider, val Polichella, running the Corneliton had to be a perfect result for the listeners of the podcast.
Speaker 2:He took our advice last week.
Speaker 1:Love it, mate. And tomorrow night we see or tonight, when everyone's probably listening to this podcast, we see the running of the Harrison Dawson and the Sapphire Crown. Always some great racing. Anything you really like in any of those heats, mate.
Speaker 2:Well, ultimately McKenna, who obviously Wilbury boasted about in the Easter Egg, is returning back down to Victoria, still under the guidance of Michelle Sultana and Daryl Thomas, according to what's on all the sites, which is great to see, and $2.50, $2.60 to win the overall market. From what we've seen in the Easter egg and what McKenna did the other week at its first run back down in Melbourne, I can't see why it can't win that too. I think $2.60 seems a good price.
Speaker 1:Do you think there's a little bit of a difference as well. You know, when he parked To me it felt like the Easter egg didn't have a lot of speed dogs, so to speak, gave it a little bit of a better chance to really burn to the front. A few more down, you kind of feel, down on the Sapphire Crown, I agree with you, just with any ounce of luck by far and away the best dog. There's a few more dogs down there with that little bit of pace. It feels like that way in Melbourne. So it'll be interesting to see a return there and I think this is an opportunity for her to stamp herself as the current genuine queen of greyhound racing in Australia, right.
Speaker 2:Yeah, absolutely. And I guess the thing with Sapphire Crown you know generally, because it's obviously racing against her own sex, isn't it? So that's a big plus. And you know, I sort of look through the field. I mean, outside of Aunt Virginia, here comes Millie, who happens to meet each other in the same heat, which I think is race four tomorrow night at Sandown Park. I mean, Sandown is generally a speed track and you know, I actually think it's a weaker field than what she meant in the Easter egg. I think, yeah, as I said, I think McKenna, if she's trained up and she holds together, I think she's her name. She's already got one core on the Sapphire Crown and I think the Harrison Dawson's probably much more of a challenging task to try to decipher who could win that race, you know.
Speaker 1:Yeah, definitely, mate. You've got well likes of Morton Flying Zulu. It's great to see All Natural heading down there as well. Be fantastic to see Michael and Selena win another big one and this time down in Melbourne had some fantastic dogs Hector Frawley, super super. Yachi Bales racing in career-best form, melbourne Cup winner racing in career-best form. So, yeah, looking forward to that, mate. And then we swing across to Saturday and we're starting to shift the focus now. Adelaide's taken the focus the last couple of weeks and then we're starting to move into the Winter Carnival up in Queensland as well, the Goodwood. Just quickly run us through the Goodwood and the top runners in the market and anything you might like. Yeah sure.
Speaker 2:So the West Australian Amelia's Jewel is coming over to race at Morpheville on Saturday in the Goodwood, which I'm surprised they're sticking at 1200. But they are and it's probably turned out to be a real good move because obviously the rumour is that Amelia's Jewel will now be trained by Annabelle Neesham on the East Coast, on the East Coast. So this is obviously on their way to the East Coast. They thought they'd pop in and have a nice little Billy's pie and a Farmers Union iced coffee in South Australia and run for a million dollars in this year's Goodwood and Amelia's Jewel's come up with a $4.20 favourite. Further out in the market we're looking at number 15, oscar's Fortune at $5.50. Benedetta $6.00.
Speaker 2:Another Western Australian too, mate. Another Western Australian too, mate. Yeah, yeah, another Western Australian. You're dead. Right there, ben the Dead is $6. I am me $7.50, who I sort of was pretty keen on last week, as we mentioned on Saturday. I was pretty keen on the run that it got and it looked like it was going to win and obviously just peaked on its run. Maybe third up. It might be a good chance this week. Johnny Rocker is then the next line of betting at $850. But Amelia's Jewel, probably racing the weakest field it's faced in a long, long time, and if it's travelled okay, third up from a spell, although over an unsuitable distance, I think it will be extremely hard to beat and I think if you can get $420 on Saturday, you're doing particularly well.
Speaker 1:And our head of customer service at night time or on the evening shift. Johnny has declared number nine Johnny Rocker. Now I'm not sure if there's bias in there in the name or whether that's on form, but yeah, no coincidence that it's Johnny Rocker and his name's Johnny as well.
Speaker 2:So sunny coast mate, you were very keen on one. Today, mate, I'm a bit worried about you. It was called the big one at Ascot and it won. So I was a little.
Speaker 1:Yeah, you got to follow your namesakes, mate. Sunny Coast off to the sunny coast on Saturday as well, and it's always. It's interesting when we don't have the metropolitan meetings how the money can slightly vary. You get different punters in. It's always a fantastic meeting up the sunshine coast, kind of the kickoff. I suppose it signals the kickoff of the winter carnival. You've got the guineas, you've got um the hollandaire stakes and there's some other great races on that day as well. Just quickly run us through both of those, those big events, mate yeah, absolutely, and I'll just.
Speaker 2:I'll just tell you that we have taken a bit of 750 each way in the Hollandale Stakes. On number seven, hoo-yah-mow for Gay Waterhouse, tim Clark, at $16. So Hoo-Yah-Mow, definitely one for the punters out there to keep their eye on.
Speaker 2:So that might be a little sneaky one at a price, and ultimately we'll do the guineas first and I'll come back to the Hollandale. But the favorite is kanisha for james cummings. Uh, james mcdonald, at 4.80. Uh, then we go further out in the field to uh stephy magnetic, uh, what is that magnetica? Yeah, stephen magnetica at 550. And then we've got uh maravi, or six dollars abounding at eight dollars, and also uh 8.50 is roll on high.
Speaker 2:And there's been a bit of a bit of a specking around, uh, for the new zealander uh, which is, uh, cellular um number four as well. So, uh, that seems to be uh that we haven't really seen a lot of money early on. The guineas, and, um, yeah, obviously we're such a big field, conditions still changing in the east coast I think we'll probably see more money for that later in the week. Um, the hollandale states, uh, number two, uh, what, what are you? How do you say it out? Al this one here, huda?
Speaker 1:Huda, huda, huda Sounds better. I think Huda sounds better. No, huda sounds better. They should be wearing the orange silks mate.
Speaker 2:Yeah, yeah, yeah. Huda, the favourite at $3.80. Comalica at $4. Just Folk $6.50. Mighty Ulysses at $7.50. Mighty Ulysses at 7.50, vanderbilt-neesham and then, like I said, then we've got.
Speaker 1:What if you get Huda and Huyamel going neck and neck down the last 200? That'd be epic, wouldn't it?
Speaker 2:That'd be epic, that that would be, epic. But yeah, huyamel, an interesting one there. Returning from a spell, 180-day spell going up there ultimately know how good of a rider he is on the pace in Clarkies and you know at times that he can just flop to the lead and just keep picking on horses first up from a spell will be quite interesting. I think that's probably a good little speculator there for the punters. For Saturday, a hoo-yah mile at $15.
Speaker 1:Mate one week. The listeners probably don't know that you do have a skill set there. You were in a past lifetime a race caller set there. You were in a past lifetime a race caller and I think we're gonna have to put you on the spot one week.
Speaker 2:Um, yeah, it'd be fantastic if you were using huda huya mal and then you throw in ladon devy be a ripper yeah, absolutely mate, and uh, yeah, and as long as it's not hairy harry in the well hangarangatangs or something like that, uh, we'll get through it. We'll battle through, we'll battle through um and what.
Speaker 1:What's your tips this week? Have we got anything outside of those big races that you personally like?
Speaker 2:I know you've got a black book.
Speaker 1:You've got plenty in your black book. Surely you've got something there for the punters. Yeah, I wasn't expecting you to call upon it, though, but I'll see what I can quickly find, and I'm referring, just so you know, so you don't make a mistake while we're recording this, I'm referring to your racing black book as well, by the way.
Speaker 2:Oh right, okay, yeah, okay, right. Well, I'm just bringing my black book up, just you know, just because I'm an Oscar. Obviously, we flopped on that. Wasn't that a shocking ride?
Speaker 1:We shouldn't bag him out, I mean, I actually really like the jockey. But one week he decided to try and swerve through traffic and then the next week he decided to go into the eighth lane.
Speaker 2:Literally four wide, no cover. And you know, to the horse's credit, it was still like looming, like it was going to be like a plate chance like 200 to go, and just sort of just ran out of steam.
Speaker 1:Hopefully it wins one before we do all of our cash.
Speaker 2:Yeah, yeah, look, I'll tell you what. We spruced this a while ago. This horse, it's racing at Caulfield in race nine and it's been really disappointing. But I know for a fact this horse has been flying in the stables and it's gone from 60 kilos back to 54. Now that might be the key for it, and it's in race nine at Caulfield. Furious Stick with it. I still think it's going to win a decent price for us this campaign.
Speaker 1:There you go, $15. So it'd be good if it kicks off that way this week, so the punters can't complain if that gets up. Or even an each-way bet. Mate, you're looking at about $4 for the place, absolutely. And the last one, mate, I'll put you onto it. We love your soccer tip. Last week I'm pretty certain it was last week or the week before your soccer multi got the cash. The last time we asked you, the soccer multi got the cash. So give us another one. What's the EPL moral this week?
Speaker 2:Well, we've actually got the last two of the Chase, the Faves, epl Valties, so yeah, which is obviously great for the partners, not great for us. But yeah, look, we actually got it. Yeah, we got it last week too, which is great. So yeah, it's the last two we've got, which is excellent. We've been into the nitty-gritty now and the pressure's on on sides like man City and Arsenal they're the only two sort of left in it, with Liverpool choking towards the end of the season.
Speaker 2:Look, I think this Saturday I'm pretty sure that you can stick with a lot of the favourites on Saturday night. So what I would focus around would be you know well, man City are away to Fulham but they're $1.20. But you might as well just throw them in for a bit of value because they'll be full on. I'd leave the Newcastle-Brighton game alone a little bit. If you are betting, if you're just following sort of what I'm telling you, I think that game there is a tricky one. I would focus around these three. I'd focus at Everton, sheffield United. I think Evertonham will beat Burnley back at home. I think Bournemouth will beat Brentford. So I think Everton, tottenham, bournemouth I think if you go those three or you do combinations of those three, I think you'll make a profit.
Speaker 1:Love it, mate. Thanks so much as always, Rhino. We appreciate your insight and I know the listeners the feedback we get is. They love hearing what the punters have been doing and particularly what the punters have bet on prior to the bets is one thing to talk about the bets that we had on the weekend or the previous weekend, it's another of the insight into the upcoming week. Thanks again, mate, and look forward to another podcast next week.
Speaker 2:Yeah, no, absolutely Look forward to it. And for anyone out there, watch the NBA, go to the Timberwolves, love it.
Speaker 1:Thanks, but thanks, buddy, see you, buddy, all right, All righty. Shifting on to our black bookers. So we've got a handful of black bookers for you guys this week. Some new names into the list, a couple in South Australia. So we've got two in South Australia Todd's James and Pippa's Hero. So keep your eyes out for both of them. We've got one in New South Wales called Still Happy, and hopefully, if you follow it through in its next start, you'll still be happy after its run, and hopefully, if you follow it through in its next start, you'll still be happy after it's run. And then we've got three in Queensland Slack, brothers Keeper and Roger. I think Brothers Keeper is the one you really want to be keeping your eye on there as well. So that's six black bookers to add to your list.
Speaker 1:In better betting, one of the questions that I've been asked recently was in relation to exotics and place betting, and how do you find value into exotics? Well, one of the things that I personally look at and we've spoken about this in the past in different better betting sections is looking at the maps, and by that I mean good beginners, looking at where the favourites are. If you've got a short price favourite, that might be, let's say, drawn box seven. That's a fast beginner. In my eyes, the dogs in box eight are a massive chance and the dog in box one and two. So if you've got a, let's say, a favorite in box seven, it's a fast beginner and you might have the second and third favorites drawn inside in boxes four and five or five and six. That's a great opportunity to find value for a place bet, or value in the exotics with looking outside of the second and third favorites. So with those exotics, that's the real key and that's where you can really really find it. The other one is when you've got wide runners. You might have a dog drawn in box one. It's $10 the win, $3 a play, something like that. And there's a wide runner drawing box too a good beginner. Wide runner drawing box too Perfect opportunity to have a place bet.
Speaker 1:Now we see a lot of our professional punters betting early, betting on the place, believe it or not, yes, as much as you hear everyone say oh, don't worry about the place, just bet the win. A lot of the professionals are looking at the speed maps. They're looking at how races are going to be run, which runners are going wide, which runners are cutting to the fence fast beginners and they're finding value. The other one, with the exotics and the place bets, is in harness racing, looking at what's going to lead and what's going to get right behind the leader, and often you might find that you know there's a horse that's drawn in barrier one that's going to be sitting right behind the leader. There might be a horse they might be thinking barrier one's going to lead and it might be drawn, say, barrier eight, and it's going to get the run straight behind the leader. Often you'll find that those place prices are better than what they should be because of the run they're going to get. So trust that helps you in finding a little bit more value in your exotics and in some place bets as well.

Speaker 1:Damo, we've had some interest in last week's chat and I want to make this in effect, part two around bookmakers having let's call it a what do you call it? A consolidation or contraction of how many bookmakers have left the market and we do have new ones coming in. But more so is around the turnover figures and people out there in the public are hearing, particularly in our circles, which is is the greyhound industry. There's been a 20 reduction in turnover and this is going to affect prize money in greyhound racing and harness and horse racing and whatever else. Just want to talk into that, mate, you will know the figures better than the most is the 20 is. Is that pretty much the standard across the board at 20%? Because I look at Chasebet and go hold on, we haven't dropped our figures and I'm not sure if you will share any of ours as well in the sense of percentages. But what's going on with the turnover?
Speaker 3:Look from what I'm hearing out in the marketplaces yeah, there's definitely a downturn in turnover. Look some concrete figures I can share. Is you know, march to April, you know, we actually grew 50% on what I paid to GRNSW. So I think there was a softening, definitely after Christmas. I think things are rebuilding a little bit, but I think it's macroeconomic factors, interest rates.
Speaker 1:Is it the big? Is it? Let's call them the big guys? And again we say that. We say that with our own view to be one of those big guys being talked about very soon and, as you said, when you're just referring to, to one of our, one of our areas where we've actually grown 50% in our own turnover, is it the big guys softening off? Is it other competitors in the market that are taking some of that? Is it the time of year? What's impacting?
Speaker 3:it? Look, I definitely think post championships in New South wales and we've, we've switched away from the better known metro tracks.
Speaker 1:But you know, last week hawksbury you know, we've got sunny coast coming up this week, you know then, a couple of weeks, we've got the scone carnival.
Speaker 3:You know it's. It's a bit of a change. You know people go oh, hang on. Don't know these horses or don't know these jockeys.
Speaker 1:Don't know the track or doesn't feel familiar.
Speaker 3:Don't know the biases, you know so. Obviously that probably affects confidence, but we could also call it comfort fatigue. You know that's a term used. You know everyone needs to freshen up, like the horses or the dogs. They need a spell.
Speaker 1:Yeah, it's a fair. It's a fair call. It's no different to having a holiday, isn't it? You're working, you're working and you need a holiday. It's, it's the same. On the punt for sure, it doesn't matter, and we've seen that with our pros, like we've seen some professional punters that have actually taken off a little bit of time over the last few weeks, which is really really interesting to see that in this time of year. Is it also weather orientated, where one week you've got a good track and then the next week you've got a heavy track and you kind of it's hard to line that up, isn't it?
Speaker 3:You know, I think some bigger names than me clearly tell you that once they go from slow to heavy, you know slow and heavy tracks that turn over more than halves. So I think going into a winter weather pattern and wet tracks, that definitely affects confidence amongst the punting fraternity and a lot of people go into hibernation to a point till the spring carnival or they come out for the Brisbane carnival for a little look.
Speaker 1:And the Ousin and the Straty and a few of those for a little.
Speaker 3:look 10,000 in the Strati and a few of those. So I think, you know, I think things aren't great. Things aren't great. Yep, they're good for us because we're in the growth mindset and we're heavily reinvesting profits back into the business and into our clients and I was going to talk about that as well, dame.
Speaker 1:I was going to ask do you feel that you know there's a small handful of bookmakers like ourselves that are really on the charge, the agility, the flexibility to be able to do promotions, to be able to reinvest back into our clientele, into attracting new clientele, and once they come they see the product we actually have, versus being so used to using a handful of. Again, we refer to them as the bigger guys and they're starting to realize hold on, the bigger guys' pricing isn't that good. These guys are under massive constraints at the moment. Is that also impacting the overall market, the pricing they're offering, what they're not able to do for their clients and therefore the turnover is down because they're not incentivising their same clients?
Speaker 3:Yeah, I think there has been a clear reduction of incentives, especially at the higher end of the market, because you know things that I bang on every week about popped. You know the cost of operating the business. It's getting tougher, but and I think you find a direct correlation to your generosity to clients you know if you're not looking after your clients, they're not going to be turning over the same amount of funds, which, it's an important issue for the industry from a funding point of view, is that the industry needs to back the bookmaker to ensure that the revenue stream keeps continuing. It's sort of like is it the chicken or the egg? Scenario.
Speaker 1:Oh, mate, it's a cycle, isn't it? And I know that there's let's just say there's some industries at the moment greyhound racing not naming any greyhound racing places or areas in New South Wales that are going through some discussions at the moment around funding. But it does come back to what you said, because these discussions are only being had because of what we've talked about in the last few weeks the accumulation of people ignoring the taxes and thinking that, oh, we'll just up the taxes because it means more money back to the government, more money back to the sports. But what they don't realise is if you want to tax somebody on, let's just keep it. Don't realise is if you want to tax somebody on, let's just keep it. In simple terms, if you want to tax 20% on $1 million, you don't make as much as taxing 15% on $2 million.
Speaker 3:Yep, and this is what I've always said you should always be looking to increase the pie, reduce the tax, have a more efficient market. Look, you know I don't want to oversimplify it, but the more efficient the market, the better it is for everyone.
Speaker 1:At what stage will we actually get people? Will we ever? Will we ever get anybody clicking on in these organisations and actually doing something smart like picking up the phone and calling some well-engaged bookmakers and telling them about what they can do? Will that happen?
Speaker 3:Look, let's say I think it's happened with Racing Queensland. I think we'll give a shout-out to Jason Scott. I think he's done that. I think Racing Victoria is getting on the bandwagon and I think New South Wales needs to. And when I say New South Wales, racing New South Wales needs to get on the bandwagon right. Grnsw, they're there, they're the leaders. You know, let me tell you me giving a shout out to GRNSW, that's a positive thing under the current funding issues that may have hit the media lately.
Speaker 1:I just can't wait to do a podcast in the next few weeks and we talk about funding in greyhound racing and that's just a little segue there. Damo, what are the last things? What are ChaseBet doing? Throw us a couple of things that ChaseBet we can expect from ChaseBet over the coming months leading between now and the spring carnival that can excite the punters.
Speaker 3:Look, what should always excite the punters here at ChaseBet is we bet, we bet. We don't want to limit you unless you know, unless you're a professional, we want to limit you unless you know, unless you're a professional, we want to bet you a fair bet at a fair price. It's my mantra. I bang on about it week after week, but look, I've heard some is what you say with the professionals.
Speaker 1:to jump in on you there, damo, is that if every bookmaker fairly bets the professionals to their limits, they can get set for whatever they realistically for what they need to get set for. And if everyone does, that follows the MBLs and that they get set. And as you said, like Ron and I spoke about it, we laid a cricket team for 17,000 at 240 or 245. We got. This morning we laid OKC 10 $10,000 at $1.60. We are taking bets from genuine punters and I love that you say that. I know that we sit there talking about it regularly or almost on the daily. What more can we do for the punters? And you just summed it up right there Pricing-wise. Damo, I want to finish on this Pricing-wise. Can you explain? And to finish on this Pricing-wise, can you explain and we've kind of touched on this a little bit can you explain to the punters why bet with ChaseBet from a pricing point of view?
Speaker 3:Look, I think we are very competitive on the runners that are in the market. So the more favoured runners we are going to be either at the call or above the call because we're going to trade a little bit more aggressively. That's pure and simple, and you're going to get more run for your money. You're going to get more entertainment value, so to speak, because you're getting a lower price.
Speaker 1:And I know obviously you run the trade team and that's one of your big mantras is always being competitive on those in the market but also actively trading. I think we've hit a space where 95% of bookmakers just whatever the feed price is it, just bets it in out and sometimes we see a runner that should be well and truly above what the feed price is, just being bet at the feed price and I think that's one thing. That, or the feedback that I received, particularly in the support area and the customer service and talking to the punters, is that they love it. Again, you go back to the basketball. We had a punter today. We took a big bet on OKC and we then offered the best odds that any bookmaker had out there on Dallas and one of our regular punters took the price and messaged and he's stoked. It's things like that that, I think, make a difference right.
Speaker 3:So my example today and you know I might have done a cameo role on a race is that the almighty green machine. We're betting $2.30 on a favourite. We're betting $2.80. Like, please, you know they're betting 130%. They're dead set a joke to the industry and the quicker they get privatised and come under MBLs the better.
Speaker 1:I reckon this is a podcast. It's almost like you've segwayed that for a podcast in the coming space anything to challenge a retail monopoly that delivers bugger.
Speaker 1:All back to the joint and I think the partners can hear as well. The listeners can hear we've got you fired up on a topic and I've just taken note, with big circles around it for a future topic. I love it, damo. Thanks again, champion.
