Hello and welcome to another episode of the Mr. Gordo Pod. This is Sarah and I'm Britt. And we're here for another lovely episode. Blood ties.
SPEAKER_03Bright and early. Very bright and early. I think this is the earliest we've ever done a podcast. This is my sleepy voice.
SPEAKER_00Of course, you have heard her sleepy voice in late nights.
SPEAKER_03I also, so Yeah, by then we're not making any sense though.
SPEAKER_00Morning sleepy voice.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I uh Sarah and I went to a little release release party for it was for Anna Wong's book.
SPEAKER_00Uh Kingdom Gluttony. Yep, that's the one. Brittany did not know anything about it.
SPEAKER_03I did it. And I just went for moral support.
SPEAKER_00To be fair, I only read the first two books in that series, and this is like book six, so I was behind myself.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I uh I just wanted something to do. I did get a book though. It was a like a tennis gay girl book. Gay girl was like, oh, I like this. I like both of those.
SPEAKER_00So I got a gay candle, Shane Holland.
SPEAKER_03You did the most expensive candle. It was a little candle.
SPEAKER_00I used my entire$25 gift card and an additional dollar after that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Yeah, that was uh you should just like refill it with other waxes and just keep using that candle.
SPEAKER_00I was like, I never um I never get to like buy stuff at like indie bookstores. There's like no indie bookstores around me. Yeah. It's Barnes and Noble and Second and Charles and Amazon, and that's it. So I was like, this is a cute little indie bookstore. I wanted to show my support in some way, so I got the freaking expensive ass candle. Um but it was um it's not like I buy from there all the time, so I'm good.
SPEAKER_03No, I did sign up for their little like thing. Yeah, me too. But I probably won't be back anytime soon.
SPEAKER_00The only reason I go back is if I can get there's a little wait list for their re release party for the next um Heated Rivalry book, the Game Changers book series.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah. Did they did they tell you that too?
SPEAKER_00Um, it was on their list, like if you're on their Instagram there's like a list of events. But they're currently on a wait list for that one right now, so it's a small store that can only handle so many people at the same time, so they um when I was checking out, they're like, oh, we're having like a little party for this book too.
SPEAKER_03And I'm like more events for people. Okay. It's apparently their book of the month or something, or like so. But I'll uh I'll eventually read it. Right now I'm trying to get through the audibles of Harry Potter, and I think they're really cool.
SPEAKER_00My goal is at the very least to reread the first Harry Potter before the show comes out. That's my goal.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I um I sorry, I was distracted. Someone's buying something off a marketplace from uh like from me, so I'm trying to organize that at the same time. She's asking questions. Um I so it's getting it's taking forever for me to get through it because I have children and they like to scream in my ear all day. So but I have that and then I'm reading I'm in the middle of reading Tough Guy, which is the third book of the book game changer series. Yeah. And then I'm holding off, I'm on the fourth book of the strike series, Cormoran Strike, which is fantastic. It's I listen to it on audible and or like you know, audiobooks, but um I highly recommend that if you like detective type books. Nice. And now I have this gay tennis book that I have to read and the sixth book of a series that I will know nothing about until I start the first book.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I still think you should watch read the Twisted series before you even delve into the King of Singh series. Yeah. But anyway.
SPEAKER_03Um not to we're diving. This is now a book podcast. I honestly could easily do a book podcast. I could not. I would be like, I didn't read it yet. Our podcast will be every time you finish a book, we'll do an episode. Honestly, I want to do either like a movie podcast where we discuss a movie, but I have friends that are doing that right now, and I'm like, I don't want to step on their coattails or whatever. But um, but also I've been trying to pitch this to Sarah and have support from a few people already who are like we would listen to that, where Sarah and I pick a topic that we diff differ on and then we debate it. Maybe like a couple topics in an episode, and Sarah's like not willing to do not willing.
SPEAKER_00I just don't know how to plan that at all. Oh, I would. That's where I think I would be. And then you're telling me I have to do my own research for my own like freaking defense.
SPEAKER_03No, like we drove to New York and we had this one topic that we spent probably 25 minutes debating easily. Of course, I came home and looked it up, and the facts are kind of different than what we were debating. So I was like, oh, okay. So we would definitely have to like.
SPEAKER_00This would be a very like uh don't take us too seriously podcast.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that's what it would be called is don't take us too seriously.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we're debating bullshit.
SPEAKER_03Um yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But people like that, they like hearing people argue. I don't know. I think it would be fun. Um, Amanda was like, I would totally listen to that. And our friend Jen was also like, you guys should 100% do it because you do it in a funny way as well. And people like that.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_03Sarah gets our first passionate about stuff.
SPEAKER_00This is this is our very first topic. I I can't help it. I got my mom up there, and yeah, she's incredibly passionate about everything. So I get it.
SPEAKER_03My parents are also very passionate.
SPEAKER_00Fight stuff I want. I gotta freaking be passionate.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, yeah. I get it. We're millennials. We had to fight to produce everything. So um, but anyway, okay.
SPEAKER_02So let's go ahead and just dive into the episode.
SPEAKER_00And yeah, blood ties.
SPEAKER_03All right. Episode 13. Let me pull that back up. Okay. So we're at the magic box at night. The Scooby gang is gathering around the ward table. That's what we're calling it now. The war table. Um, they're discussing Buffy's upcoming birthday. Buffy wants to skip celebrating, but Willow insists they need to have a party. No, they don't.
SPEAKER_00They never Buffy's party should they should just ignore Buffy's birthday.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Every year. Just ignore it. It really is. That's unfortunate. Um, Buffy insists that this is not a good time for a party. They need to figure a way to stop Glory. She's like right about this. Exactly. Uh Giles tells them that the council uncovered info that Glory and two of her fellow Hell Gods rolled one of the demon dimensions. Uh, Buffy asks what they know about her, and Giles tells her that Glory's human form is limiting her powers, but she is still immortal, invulnerable, and on the brink of insanity. Yeah, that's that sounds like women. So living in our world is affecting her mentally, and she can only keep her mind by extracting the energy from humans. She absorbs the energy from a human brain and leaves behind crazy people. I have a comment for that, but I can't say it on here. I think you know what I know. We'll talk. When Buffy says they need a way to stop her, Willow suggests that her and Tara can look up tactical spells. Anya says she will help with research. She knows a lot about demon dimensions. Uh, Xander inquires about the key that Glory is looking for, and Buffy just evades the question, telling them not to worry about it, which I don't know why she just doesn't tell them. Like she's told them everything else in the whole entire series.
SPEAKER_00I think because it's just so sensitive, the subject, and it's her sister, so it's extremely personal. So I don't know. I think she's just being very defensive and she doesn't want the information getting out.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And also it it does put a like you know, a bullseye on the friend's head specifically for Glory to come and take to try to get that information out of them. Though they she could still do it anyways, whether they knew or not. So I don't know.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Well, uh, Willow says uh that whatever Glory's planning involves the key. Xander asks where they should start looking for it. And Buffy blurts out that she knows where it is, and when the other Scoobies, except Giles, is shocked, she explains she can't tell them. They can't risk Glory finding out and they don't want them in danger. Alright, fair point. Xander points out they're always in danger. Alright, fair point. After a moment, Buffy agrees to tell them, saying they should know since they are risking their lives. She then starts to talk to them about dawn. There we go. Um, at the woods, we're still it's still at nighttime, a few of the Byzanti Byzantium knights kneel around a knights of Byzantium. Yeah. They're around a campfire and their heads are bowed and their swords are held to their foreheads while they pray. They talk about how the link must be severed. It's the will of God. The key is the link, and the link must be severed. Uh suddenly Jinx, one of Glory's minions, is there asking if they think God will help them. And they leap up, swords ready, and that when five other minions burst out of the woods to attack. Um, and then there's like a whole fight scene here. Uh one of the knights is about to kill Jinx when Glory arrives. She tells no one that she should uh she tells no one that she should never send a minion to do God's work. Um she backhands the knight and sends him flying, and she deflects blows easily with her bare hands. And then when one of the knights tried to reach their for their swore sword, she gets to it first. And then theme song.
SPEAKER_00Doo doo doo-doo doo doo. Beautiful. Yes. So we're in the magic box. I'm assuming the next day. Willow and Tara are making runic symbols around the magic box. Dawn is coming up asking how the spells are going. Both Willow and Tara look very awkward. They tell her the spell is an early warning incantation in case any hell gods come within 100 feet. Um, they're also gonna add one around the summer's home. Uh Willow and Tara look uncomfortable when Dawn asks to help, and Willow just tells her that Buffy wouldn't like Dawn messing with the black arts. And Dawn definitely um can tell there's a weird vibe. She's like, whatever, and goes inside. Inside, Xander's at the table going through books while Anya is raging the display. Uh Dawn asks if um they're on a case. And Xander is overenthusiastic after responding, asking how she's doing. It's very awkward. He even starts to poke her, probably to see if she's real, and laughs. And Dawn asks, What's going on? And Anya blurs uh blurts out that she makes a very pretty girl. Um Xander, in an effort to cover up Anya's comment, asks Anya to help him with something. Anya awkwardly tells Dawn that Xander needs help with something and asks if Dawn couldn't hear him. And Xander quickly hustles her out before she accidentally does any damage. Dawn frowns. Extra weird. Buffy and Giles enter from the training room. Uh Giles is carrying his notebook. He sits on the counter. Um he is talking to Buffy about training, not being challenging enough. Uh Dawn puts her stuff down. She notes that Giles uh picks up his notebook and closes it. He smiles at Dawn and Buffy asks how school was. She tells him that it was usual, boring. She tries to keep track of Giles' notebook, but after seeing him fiddle with something behind the counter, it's gone. Dawn asks if they're going um up against the weird girl, the one that came to the house, referring to Glory. Uh Buffy says no, and Dawn says that she's freaking out because she has to fight someone prettier than her. And Buffy tells her that Glory is evil and powerful and not prettier. And Dawn says that she doesn't look so tough.
SPEAKER_03Sorry, I got distracted again. Was that it? Yeah, was it that way? This is gonna be once more with distractions, breast distractions. Um at Glory's place, Orlando, the knight, who's very cute, by the way, um his hands have been skewered above his head with his own sword, pinning him to a column. Blood's coming down his face. Glory runs a finger essentially across his bloodstained lips, and she asks him to tell her where the key is. The knight defiantly tells her that even if he knew he wouldn't tell her, he says he will die a thousand deaths before telling her, and she gets frustrated before deciding to run her hands up his body seductively, ending with uh slipping her hands into his head and sucking him dry. Probably not the type he wanted. Um at Buffy's living room at night, Buffy is sitting with a bunch of presents in front of her. The gang is there to celebrate, um, alone with Joyce and Dawn, or along with Joyce and Dawn. Buffy is uh excited and greedily asks for her gifts, and she tears into the first one while Anya looks on impatiently. She's getting excited to see what they are, even though they are not for her. Um the gift is addressed, and Tara comments that they wanted to give her something that wasn't a weapon. Anya comments that she wishes it was hers, and everyone looks at her weirdly, and she's like, like you weren't thinking the same thing. Giles says he is certain he was not thinking that. Um Dawn gives Buffy her gift. It's a picture of her and Dawn at the beach in a frame adorned with seashells. And Dawn says they took that picture of the summer they spent with their dad in San Diego, and the shells are from the beach. Uh Buffy looks suddenly sad, telling her that she remembers, and the room is deadly quiet, and Dawn is now very uncomfortable with the vibe, and Buffy hugs and thanks her. Um, in the kitchen, Buffy is talking with Joyce and Giles. Dawn is eavesdropping, and Joyce asks if they think Dawn is dangerous. Buffy says no, but Giles is not too sure. He says that she might not have dangerous intentions, but her existence could be dangerous. While Giles is talking, Buffy notices Dawn. She calls out to her and asks how the party is going, and Dawn casually says they need plates for the cake. In the living room, everyone is having a good time. Dawn comes in, goes to Xander and Anya, who are laughing with each other. When they see Dawn, they immediately stop looking guilty. They or they stop laughing and then they look guilty. Um, Dawn is frustrated and asks why everyone is being weird when she is around. Xander says they're they're not, and Dawn says she is not an idiot. She knows they are talking about her, and Anya and Xander look at each other because they weren't Anya says they were talking about sex. This is when Buffy, Giles, and Joyce enter. Dawn tells her mom that everyone is talking about her, and Xander says they were in fact not talking about her at all. Anya explains they were talking about sex and how they do some pretend stuff. Joyce doesn't know how to respond, and Buffy changes the subject. Dawn is upset, says in third person that Dawn can't hear anything. She tells them she will just go to bed. That way she isn't accidentally exposed to words. Dawn storms off and up the stairs. The others look at each other knowing they didn't handle that well.
SPEAKER_00In Dawn's room, after um slamming the bedroom door, Dawn looks pissed. She gets a determined look and shimmies down the trellis outside her window. Um she jumps down and creeps past the living room window, she rounds the house and bumps into Spike. He looms over her, a cigarette in his mouth, and a rumpled box of chocolates in his hands. Dawn asks if he lurks much, and Spike says he wasn't lurking, he was standing about. It's a very different vibe. Don spots the candy box and looks incredulous. She asks if he's giving um Buffy a birthday present. She says that's weird, and that chocolates are lame. And then she comments to the state of the box and tells him that she never touched anything from him. She hits every place that would hurt the most. Spike asks if uh she should be tucked away, warm and safe, where nowhere can eat her. And Dawn laughs, says that he doesn't scare her, and Spike looks de dejected. Uh Dawn says that she is badder than Spike, who was standing in the bushes with a bent box of chocolates. Is that the That was the box of chocolate? That was the box he was beaten up. Yeah, beaten, yeah.
SPEAKER_03He didn't even have the audacity to go get a new box.
SPEAKER_00This work. Uh um, she tells him that um she is gonna go uh break into the magic shop to steal things. Spike mentions all the number of BCs that could be around um the house and the shop, um, that Buffy will be pissed. And Buffy sa Dawn says that she can take care of herself, but after a moment asks Spike to come steal stuff with her. And after a beat, he shrugs and says, Yeah. In the magic shop, uh Spike picks a lock and Dawn keeps look out. They get in and Dawn immediately goes behind the counter. Spike notices that she has a mission and asks what they're trying to steal. She says a book, and Spike laughs, mocking her for her choice. He then slips an ornate crystal into his pocket. Uh Dawn says she doesn't want the book just to see what's inside. Uh she stumbles on the hidden switch and a secret cubby opens up. A bit later, uh, we see candles lit and Spike and Dawn sitting pouring over Giles' notebooks. Dawn is also eating the chocolates. Um Spike comments on Giles' small handwriting. Dawn then sees something about the monks and how their sole purpose was uh to be protectors of the key. Spike wander uh wanders around, notices Olaf's hammer, tries to pick it up, but strains under the weight. Uh Dawn continues saying the key is not described in literature, but research indicates an energy matrix that is beyond human perception. Um, that only ones outside reality can see the key's true nature. Dawn pauses, asking Spike what outside reality means. And Spike comments that it probably means people with second sight or just crazy people. Uh Dawn remembers the two times uh crazy people stopped uh to tell her that she didn't belong here. Spike asks her if the notebook says what the key is. He might try to hack it and um they can split the tick. Dawn continues reading, saying that the key is susceptible to necromancer animal detection of canine or serpent construct. Dawn then remembers the giant snake monster. Spike, noticing she stopped reading, continues to read for her. Says the monks possess the ability to transform energy and bend reality. That they started, but the council thinks they were interrupted by presumably Glory. Uh but they did manage to accomplish a task. They needed to make certain the slayer would protect it with her life, so they sent the key to her in human form, in the form of a sister. He stops reading, looks at Dawn curiously, who looks devastated. Do they ever show what her true form is? No, I've loved I would have loved to have that.
SPEAKER_02I know.
SPEAKER_03Um, all I picture is like a big ball of energy. Like green, like light. Yeah. Um, so at Buffy's living room, the gang, they're still there at the party talking, and no one's noticed Dawn was gone. Willow asks if she got anything from Riley. Buffy says no, but she didn't think she would since he can't have contact with civilians and they're broken up, obviously. Um Willow says sorry, but Buffy is trying to move on, says she needs a new tradition where she does birthdays without boyfriends. Tara suddenly says, Oh god, and everyone looks. Dawn is standing on the other side of the room, she holds her hands out, blood dripping from a gash across her palm. The birthday cake knife she used to inflict the wound hangs limply in her other hand, and she asks if this is blood. Joyce shouts for her, and Buffy rushes over, taking the knife. She asks what she did, and Dawn says it's blood that she can't be the key because she is not a thing. Um Everyone is shocked that she knows. Joyce tries to assure her, but doesn't know what to say really. Dawn breaks down sobbing. She keeps asking if she's even real, and Joyce hugs her and shares a look with Buffy. Later, everyone leaves. Jalice tries to stay to help, but Buffy insists it needs to be just family. He leaves and Buffy goes up to Dawn's room. When she enters, Dawn is laying in her bed. Um, her hand is bandaged with Joyce stroking her hair. Dawn asks why they didn't tell her, and Buffy says they were planning to tell her, but wanted to wait till she was older. She asks how old she was, and Joyce replies that she is 14. She clarifies, says the monks um made her and left the unspoken question for someone to answer. Buffy responds, six months. Dawn is freaking out that she's only six months old. Uh Joyce insists that she has been alive longer than them. Dawn is upset, says that everything about her is made up, and they only worry because she is a key. Buffy tells her that she worries because she is her sister, and Dawn says it's a fake memory. Joyce tries to reach out, but Dawn withdraws and she screams for them to get out.
SPEAKER_00I'm very conflicted this episode with Dawn, because at one point I understand where Dawn's coming from, and the other point she is so bratty.
SPEAKER_03I'm still a teenager.
SPEAKER_00I know, it's so annoying. It's very conflicted with her.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. You know, for them to put her in a teenage body is so the worst one to put in on.
SPEAKER_00I guess you would protect a younger sibling more than you would protect someone who's older or something. No. Like put it in a six months. Someone who's defenseless.
SPEAKER_03I guess there really is no good age to put them in.
SPEAKER_00No. I mean, to be fair, Josh wouldn't have put her in a 12-year-old's body, so they did age her up a little bit, but.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Um, the Scoobies are there, not really talking. Oh, we're at the magic box the next day. Uh so they're there, they're not really talking, and Buffy enters, asking if they found anything. Giles tells her that they are still looking, and Buffy insists they need answers. They need to know everything about the key, what it's for, who created it. She wants to know for Dawn that Dawn deserves to know. Giles asks how Dawn found the notebooks and how she even got into the magic box. Anya finds a cigarette butt and an urn, and Buffy realizes who else was there.
SPEAKER_00So in Speck's crypt, uh, it's the daytime. Speck is sitting on the lid of his tomb, painting his nails, black, of course, when the door bursts open and Buffy storms in. As she usually does.
SPEAKER_03She never just opens the door. She just kicks or anything. He's had to find so many probably slabs of concrete to replace it.
SPEAKER_00She grabs a lid of the tomb and with one hard pull yanks it from under Spike. He falls with a thud. He tells her to be careful, he shows off his wet nails, and then Buffy slams the tomb of the lid in his chest, pinning him in place. She demands to know why he let Dawn find out like that. She asks if he hates her that much. And Spike looks a little bit hurt and tells her that he was only do uh along for the ride, that he didn't know she was a key, nobody kept him in the loop. Uh Buffy says that he could have stopped her, and he says that now that something that has gone wrong, she's gonna blame him. In a single burst of strength and anger, Spike flips the entire tomb off Lib and away from him. It lands with a heavy crash uh beside them. He tells her that Dawn wanted to go and she would have found a way to sooner or later. He thought it would be safer for um her uh with him looking out for her. Buffy looks angry still but does back off. She repeats that Dawn shouldn't have found out like that, and Spike tells her that she wouldn't have been able to keep the truth from her, and um if she had been honest with her sister, she wouldn't have been here playing Kick the Spike. Buffy leaves and Spike deflates. In Dawn's room, uh Joyce enters after knocking, looking exhausted. Um, she tells Dawn that she'll be late for school. Dawn's awake in bed, tells her mom she's not going, that blobs of energy don't need education. I get that. Yeah. Joyce uh doesn't hut her spine. She just strokes Dawn's hair and she asks um if she wants soup. And Dawn pulls away and snaps that she isn't sick, um, she isn't anything. And Joyce tries to calm her down, but Dawn tells her that she's not her mother, which of course makes Joyce flinch. Uh Dawn tells her that um she changes her mind, she's gonna go to school, and she leaves. Uh at the hospital mental word, uh Ben is entering with some pills. Orlando, the knight, is there, strapped down. Ben's eyes go wide when he recognizes the symbols tattooed on him. Jinx is suddenly there and tells Ben that the Byzantium are there. Their numbers are few now, but they will grow. Um, they will keep coming now, no matter how many that we kill. He tells Ben that it's time to set animosities aside and that his fate is tied to glory's, and she'll be extremely forgiving up until now. Ben explodes, yells, What can she do? Send a bunch of minions to bore him to death. She can't lift a finger to him, so she needs to save her threats. He storms out and jinx remains a sign.
SPEAKER_03In Dawn's room that night, Dawn has all of her diaries spread out, trying to figure out any of if any of this is real. Uh, she hears a muffled conversation from downstairs, so she pauses to listen. Downstairs, Buffy and Joyce are grappling with the Dawn situation. Joyce says they can't leave her upstairs all alone. Buffy thinks that she needs time and they can't force her to accept this. They argue what's best, but Buffy's argument that Dawn probably needs space wins out. Um, Joyce says the school called to tell them that she is suspended. She uh cussed out a teacher, and Dawn explains, which at this day and age is like an everyday thing. Nobody gets in trouble for that anymore. Buffy explains that Dawn probably thinks she can do or say anything no matter what, because she is not real and they aren't really her family, that they don't know what she is. Upstairs, Dawn is hearing this, and Buffy's words hitting her hard, and she retreats without hearing more. She looks at her room and realizes her whole life is a lie. She explodes and starts to rip up like her posters and tears up photos and just destroys everything, and then rips up her diaries and tosses the remains in the trash. Downstairs, Buffy and Joyce continue. Joyce is upset Buffy referred to Dawn as a thing, and Buffy explains that this is probably how Dawn feels. Her mom says they need to let her know she isn't a thing and she is part of the family. Um Buffy says it's not simple, that Dawn needs answers to what she is. Joyce says she needs a sister, not a slayer. Buffy points out that the slayer is the only thing standing between Dawn and a god from a hell dimension that wants to stuff her in some lock and give her a good twist. There's a piercing screech and they both bolt upstairs. Buffy thinking it's a spell put in place to detect Glory, but it's in Dawn's room. We see that Dawn has set her diaries that she tore up on fire. Um Buffy puts it out and they notice Dawn is gone and her window is open. On the Sunnydale Street, Dawn walks down the street, and then we go to the magic box where Buffy has got the Scoobies and Spike together. She explains that Dawn burned her diaries before leaving, and Willow and Xander both remember the diaries, how Dawn had kept them since she was seven, but then they realize that was false. Buffy tells them they need to find her fast before Glory or the Knights do. Mom is at the house in case she goes back and she wants everyone else to sweep Sunnydale to find her. Spike tries to get out of it, but Buffy promises to pay. They try to come up with somewhere Dawn may have gone, suggesting the mall, the bronze. Buffy gives everyone instructions on what to do.
SPEAKER_00So in Sunnydale Park, uh the park is dark and deserted. Dawn appears at the edge, takes in a scene, lost in memory. There's a bit of a flashback to sometime years ago. A 10-year-old Dawn um baits a younger Buffy as Buffy pushes her on swing. In the present, um, Dawn stands frozen, upset that none of that actually happened. In the back alley, Giles and Xander are searching the um alleys. Uh Giles is armed with a sleek black crossbow, and Xander takes a long construction um crowbar. They reminisce on all the memories they had of Dawn that didn't happen. And Giles says it takes getting used to the knowledge that she's actually a living energy that is thousands of years old. That uh people have died, killed, and have summoned armies to control the key. Xander randomly points out that Dawn has a crush on him in an almost braggy way. And Giles sighs and then they keep on searching. In the woods, Willow and Tara are searching, um, on the edge of town. Willow scans the night, uh, they don't know where to go to search. In Sunnydale Park, Buffy and Spike have a ride to the park that Dawn was at earlier. Buffy yells out into the night for Dawn, and Spike points out that Dawn left, and if she hears Buffy bellowing, she will go in the opposite direction. Buffy sags, worried, and Spike looks awkward, tells her that Dawn would have probably run away anyway, that even if she had never found out, she is still a 14-year-old hormone bum. They don't know what's screwing up more. Um he then assures Buffy that they will find her. In an alley, Dawn is drifting. Um an ambulance tears past, startling her. She watches it go, an idea forming. Um in the hospital hallway, it's quiet, nearly deserted. And uh Dawn slips in, goes to the mental ward. She goes in cautiously, um, seeing the patient strapped to the bed. Uh they start to wake up and they start to mutter, it's here. Dawn goes to one, asking if they can see her. The one keeps repeating, um, can't hear it. Dawn asks what she is, and suddenly Orlando, the knight, tells her that she's the key. She turns to him and he shouts that he's found it. Dawn asks if uh he knows what the key is. He lunges for her, and she scrambles back, his restraints stopping him. He says the key is the link, and the link must be severed. And the rest of the patients go into fits and Dawn goes to flee when she runs into Ben.
SPEAKER_03At the hospital break room, Dawn is sitting with Ben. He pours her some hot chocolate, apologizing for the lack of marshmallows. There's a cute moment where Dawn says she doesn't like marshmallows because when she was five, Buffy told her they were monkey brains, and she trails off, realizing another false memory. Ben asks if Joyce is back in the hospital, wondering why she's there. Uh Dawn says she is fine, and Ben asks if she can call anybody, like her sister. And Dawn bitterly says she doesn't have a sister. Ben asks if they were in a fight, um, that he understands how that is. He has a sister that is a pain in the ass, and sometimes he also wishes she didn't exist. Dawn says it's not Buffy, it's it's her that doesn't exist. Ben isn't getting what she is saying, and it frustrates her, and she snaps that she is not real. None of her is. She says she is nothing. Just a thing the monks made so Glory couldn't find her. Ben stumbles back away from the table looking freaked out. He asks if she is the key. Dawn is stunned, he knows what the key was. Oh my god, why would you blab all of this to someone anyway?
SPEAKER_00I don't know. She's obviously strange. She's obviously not thinking.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Ben suddenly tells her to leave, to go before she finds her. Dawn tries to calm him, but Ben insists she leave that she will be found and hurt. He loses it and says Dawn is who she has been searching for and she needs to run. He stiffens in horror, yelling at her that she's coming and that she's here. Ben grabs her and then mors morphs into Glory, paralyzing Dawn in fear. Glory looks at Dawn and smiles brightly before asking her, Don't I know you? That was a nice little twist. Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_00Um Ben is Glory. Glory is Ben. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Both hot. Um so Gloria is at Ben's locker and her back to Dawn. She finishes peeling out of Ben's scrubs, and she pulls a red silk dress from the locker, and she complains about how cotton and how silk makes your she's complains about cotton and then how silk makes your skin set saying. Uh Dawn is sitting at the table, petrified, and Dawn asks if she is Ben, and Glory laughs, saying it's more complicated than that. Family always is. Uh Dawn's eyes flick to the door and like gauging the distance, and Glory tells her that she would never make it. She'd rip her spine out before taking a step. And then Dawn jumps, and Glory is suddenly standing right next to her. Glory asks what the slayer's sister was doing with Ben, and Dawn eyes Glory in surprise. She doesn't know uh Dawn's the key, and when Dawn asks if she remembers, Glory points out that Dawn was talking to Ben, not her. A burly security guard enters, interrupting them, wanting to know wanting them to know this area was a personnel only. Glory reaches out and casually snaps his neck, and then Dawn just gasps and shrinks back. The guard goes down, his head twisted. Uh, Glory turns back to Dawn saying they should find a place where they won't be interrupted again.
SPEAKER_00Zone cemetery, Willow and Tara have joined Buffy and Spike. They give the news about not finding Dawn. Xander and Giles appear. Um she reads from her their expensive uh expresses uh expression that they also didn't find her. Buffy suggests the hospital, thinking anything could have happened, not just Glory. In the hospital X-ray room, uh Glory has brought Dawn um into this deserted room. Um she admires one of the x-rays on display, and she tells Dawn that she loves seeing people's insides. Um she turns to Dawn and tells her that her sister has the key and it's hers, and she wants it back. She asks if Dawn knows where it is. Dawn looks freaked, tells her she doesn't know, and asks what it looks like. Glory tells her it's a bright green, swirly shimmer that it really brought the blue out in her eyes. Um, but the monks made it look like something else, so she doesn't know what it currently looks like. Dawn carefully gauges the situation and sees a way to uh play it to her advantage. She asks Glory to tell her more about it to see if she can know if she's seen it. Glory's face brightened and she says, Okay. In another part of the hospital, the gang meet uh mills about nervously as Buffy speaks to the admitting nurse. She moves to them, face grief, the gate uh the gang tenses, and she tells them that Dawn wasn't brought in. Um, a terrified janitor hustles past with two security guards. He's telling them how how he found him on the third floor, head almost twisted clean off. And Buffy tenses and says Glory. Back in the X-ray room, Dawn is subtly working in Glory for information about the key, trying to find out everything she can about herself. Glory mentions that it isn't as old as her, but close. And Dawn asks if it's evil. Glory at first says yes, but then clarifies that it really depends on your point of view. And Dawn asks what it's for. And Dawn said uh that if it's a key, there must be a lock. Glory confirms that and is about to answer um but stops, eyes narrowing. She says there's a fox in our henhouse. That Dawn is trying to get a beacon to her unmentionables. Dawn uh denies it, but Glory doesn't want to hear it, and says that she thinks that um Dawn doesn't have any idea where the key is. She starts to mumble and says there's bugs in her skin. Um Dawn asks what is wrong with her, and Gloria says that she doesn't have to be a waste. She can send the slayer a message and get a pick-me-up. She turns to Dawn and reaches for her, try uh looking to suck her brains. This is when Buffy comes in and tells her to get away from her. Uh Glory whirls around, Buffy appears with the gang. She looks delighted, saying that they were just talking about her. Buffy attacks, hitting Gloria hard, dodging her counterattack. Uh the rest of the gang fans uh fans out across the room. Uh Spike joins Buffy impounding Glory. Glory swats Spike across the room. Spike hits the wall and then the floor unconscious. Dawn goes back to beating Gloria up. Uh Willow and Tara have positions uh themselves on the opposite side of the room. Their eyes are closed and they quietly chant. Uh Buffy continues to uh her assault. Glory lashes onto her foot mid-kick. She admires Buffy's footwear. Uh Buffy black flips and catches Glory um under her chin with her free foot. Buffy crashes to the floor and Giles fires his crossbow. It slams into Glory's chest and bounces right off. Glory's not impressed and says as much. When Xander clocks her in the head with his crowbar, it does nothing. She tells him to watch the hair. Glory yanks the crowbar hard, sending Xander flying into Giles. She hops the crowbar like a spear, hurls the crowbar at Dawn, and Buffy leaps in the way. At last second, it pierces Buffy's shoulder. She goes down in agony, and Dawn runs to her side. Buffy yinks the crowbar out of her shoulder as Glory starts a fresh attack. Before Glory can reach Buffy, Willow and Tara suddenly spring into action, throwing colored dust at Glory from either side. It hits her and clings, staining her skin and clothes. She drops Buffy livid, and Willow yells a word in Latin and slams her hands together, activating her spell. Glory suddenly disintegrates. Willow collapses on the floor, her nose bleeding. Tara rushes to her, asking what spell she did, and it was a telepor teleportation spell that she's been working on. But she doesn't know where she sent Glory though. This is when you get to the sky, like in the middle of the night, Glory starts to reform half a mile above the ground. She's like, oh shit, and then plummets um to the ground, which trembles on impact, uh, and nearby a car alarm's going off.
SPEAKER_03So in the x-ray room, the gang is picking themselves off the floor, assessing the damage. Buffy grabs Dawn in a hug and makes sure she is alright, while Giles, who is helping Willow, tells her that the spell is dangerous. Dawn asks why she even cares if she is hurt. Buffy tells her it's because she loves her, she is her sister. When Dawn disagrees, Buffy takes her hand where there's a cut across it. She tells her that she has Summer's blood, and then takes her own hand, smears some blood from her shoulder wound, and holds it up for Dawn to see. She says it's just like hers, that it doesn't matter how she got there. Dawn is her sister, and she wouldn't annoy her so much if she wasn't. All of Dawn's anger and defenses come crashing down. She hugs Buffy tight, and she tells her she was scared and tries to remember something, like Ben equals glory, but can't remember what it was. She mentions Ben was there trying to help her, but he must have left before Glory came. Buffy tells her they will thank him later and they better get back home. Dawn asks if Joyce is mad about the fire, and Buffy tells her she has a get out of jail free card. After a beat, Dawn asks if she thinks she can get a bigger allowance, and Buffy tells her to not push it, and they leave it together.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. That's it.
SPEAKER_03It's a good episode.
SPEAKER_00That was a good episode.
SPEAKER_03I do like the the twist with the Ben and the glory. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And his glory, glory is Ben.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Blory. Um yeah. So I she's federate six. Yeah. I could agree with that.
SPEAKER_00Like I completely understand her being upset. And it is obviously an existential crisis for her. So I completely understand it. At the same time, she's an annoying bride teenager, so yeah. It's uh she has more of a reason than other bride teenagers. So she has that favorite scenes when she is a bridey teenager, but you know. She just starts screaming for no reason.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But I um yeah, I I did like this episode. I I don't know. I don't really have much to say about it, honestly. I just it's very informative. Yeah, it just keeps leading us closer to the end. So, but I really don't have anything else to say about it. No, no. Alright, cool. I don't think I had enough coffee yet. I need one more sip for my day.
SPEAKER_00She takes like two sips in it.
SPEAKER_03One Duncan coffee, like a small will last me like three or four days. So Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh not me.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I know.
SPEAKER_00I need like a large coffee. This is you every two hours. I know. I need like a large coffee, it'll last me like two hours.
SPEAKER_03Oh man. I remember when I used to be like that. Um all right, so next uh we'll see you guys next week, I guess. Yeah. All right. See you. Bye.
