Dr. Luke Clark

Dr. Luke Clark is a Professor in UBC’s Department of Psychology and Director of the Centre for Gambling Research at UBC. His research examines the cognitive, behavioural, and neurobiological mechanisms involved in gambling and disordered gambling, including cognitive distortions such as the illusion of control and gambler’s fallacy, risk factors for gambling problems, and how features of modern gambling products contribute to harm. His work also uses behavioural data from online gambling to identify at-risk individuals and extends to reward uncertainty and excessive engagement with digital behaviours such as video gaming. Clark received the UBC Killam Research Prize in 2020 and the Scientific Achievement Award from the National Center for Responsible Gambling in 2015 for his contributions to gambling disorder research.
