Nutrition North is a organization that helps make perishable, nutritious food more accessible and more affordable than it otherwise would be to residents of eligible isolated northern communities without year-round surface (road, rail or marine) access. McKinley Winters is their Advisory Board Chairperson and was visiting Norman Wells as a part of the Board performing Community visits. They connected with many of the key players when it comes to food supply here as wells as an event at the legion that the public could attend and where they distributed fresh fruit. I thought it would be interesting to learn about the people behind the program and offered to do an episode with them, and later that night, McKinley and I had the chance to sit down together. McKinley has a fascinating story and was an absolute pleasure to talk to, we covered Nutrition North, his home community and the challenges they face and ended up talking largely about his faith journey and where that is taking him. I want to acknowledge McKinley for his openness and vulnerability during this interview, it was an pleasure to sit down with you and get to know you. Enjoy the Episode!

Breaking Ice is a podcast that focuses on the life stories of ordinary people. it is an exploration of the North and who ends up there and why. We talk to everyone from anywhere if you are in the North, lets explore who you are and what your story is.
.
The Northern Region of Canada is an unbelievable place. A place that exists outside of the regular day to day understanding of life for most people. It is a place of extremes, from weather, remoteness, beauty, logistics, to costs, community and adventure. This kind of environment does not create soft people. Living & working in the North has given me the great pleasure of meeting and getting to know these extraordinary individuals. On Breaking Ice we will sit down and talk unfiltered with people about their lives, business and passions.
