Language of Willingness STEPS:

  1. Share what you are struggling with
  2. Share what you need to alleviate the struggle in concrete, actionable language
  3. Share why the support is meaningful to you and how it might relate to the other person’s needs
  4. If it is a stretch for the other person, acknowledge the cost
  5. Ask if the person is “willing to” respond to your need and be open to exploring and negotiating a win-win solution
