A cold front is rolling in and the plan is set: finish a final Arkansas public land rifle hunt, then head to Illinois to meet the rut head-on with fresh cameras, a new trailer, and enough tags to make camp hum. We break down the gritty parts no one likes to admit—nerves at full draw, the difference between a 120 and a 160 staring you down, and how aging eyes and reading glasses mess with bow sights—then lay out the small choices that lead to clean shots and real results.

The hunt has a star: the Big Six, a mature buck that’s outsmarted us for three seasons. He’s shifted to creek bottoms, hugged a corner with neighbor pressure, and barely daylighted once. We sketch a realistic path to success: keep him centered, wait for the rut to loosen his guard, or slip close to the bed for a midday window. Mixed in are the stories that keep a camp together—mailman chases to rescue gear deliveries, e-bike wipeouts, and a lost Sitka luggage saga that sparks a frank talk about why premium layers sometimes make all the difference when it’s cold, wet, and you get one shot.

Standards start ambitious and evolve with intel. Day one we talk 130 and up; day three we’re reading scrape lines and wind shifts and calling audibles based on what the cameras and the does tell us. We set a simple rule for accountability: draw blood or even cut hair and your hunt is over until the track job is done. There’s room here for new bowhunters and veterans alike, with crossbows in the mix for confidence and humane shots when the stakes are high and the heart rate spikes. After the rut push, we pivot to ducks and then back to boats and Road to Pro fishing, because the outdoor calendar never really slows down.

If you love practical deer tactics, real camp talk, and the rush of chasing a personal best when the weather flips, this one hits home. Tune in, share it with your hunting crew, and drop a comment with your pass-or-shoot number for a mid-rut buck. And if you’re enjoying the show, subscribe, leave a review, and hit the bell so you don’t miss what happens when the Big Six finally slips up.

Setting The Stage: Deer Plans

SPEAKER_01

It's five o'clock and you're on the cockle beast. Today I got Michael Shoglin here, Jake, and Dad with me, and we're going to talk about deer hunting. The hunts we've had, the big six that we were pursuing, and we're going to talk about going to Illinois. We got a big trip planned. We're going to be there for a couple weeks. And the way Cody and Tyler's talking is we have a good chance of shooting some big deer. But we're going to get into that. But before we do, make sure you leave a like, subscribe, and hit the bell for notifications. Before we get started, I just want you to know, everybody here to know that we're probably going to talk about some stuff that might they not might like. Like the fact of me shooting the buck and killing the buck that you've been hunting for a week after you left. He gave up on it. You know? We're going to talk about it, okay? So don't get upset or angered or has TM killed a deer yet, though? He has not. The deer he was hunting got killed. Oh. There hadn't been one worthy enough for him.

The Big Six Controversy

SPEAKER_00

There's only deer on the whole property that was daylighting. You didn't have a choice. Here we go. You really didn't have a choice. I mean He wasn't daylighting. If you none of your stuff. If you if you if you hunt Whitetail long enough, you do know that if you have 20 cameras out there and you got one deer that's daylighting, the chances of killing a deer is greater. Right. And you took advantage of that. And you killed it. Okay. I would have killed your deer if it had been the other way around. It would barely daylight. I don't think you would have. No, it would barely daylight it.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, you don't think I would have? No, because you was hunting the spot where you were getting him on your game cameras. It's not where I killed him. It's the same Oak Holler. No. 400 yards down.

SPEAKER_00

So you're telling me you would have killed that deer if you stayed? No, because I probably would have hunt the same spot he didn't come to. Congratulations, you killed him.

Illinois Trip And Early Rut Setup

Like, Subscribe, Hit The Bell

SPEAKER_01

Thank you, thank you, thank you. So let's go from what we're doing now. Okay, we're getting ready, we're getting geared up, we're about to all roll up to Illinois to go after some monster bucks. Okay, so early November. Got some good pictures. Yeah. Bucks are starting to do it right. They're getting, you know, they're getting routers. They are. Yeah. We got a good cold front. Mm-hmm. So before we go to Illinois, though, you're actually hunting here in Arkansas.

Bow Struggles And New Hunter Lessons

SPEAKER_02

You have one more hunt plan. Very excited. Uh drew a tag on some public land out in East Arkansas that's uh been known to hold some some big deer. So I'm gonna try to get out there and and kill one of those. Heck yeah. Yeah, that's right with a rifle, too, right? That's with a rifle. So I'm I'm at an advantage. That's good. We're still working on the bow. We're still working on the bow accuracy. Uh we don't have to get in the room. Are you struggling with the bow category? I wouldn't say struggling because there's definitely some But you are a new bow hunter, correct?

SPEAKER_00

I mean you're a new bow hunter.

SPEAKER_02

Uh yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

It's hard. I mean you're starting out, it's not it's not easy. It's not, it's not easy. I mean, I told you when I first started bow hunting years and years and years ago. I I missed so many deer. Yeah. I was so impatient. Oh, yeah, me too. Okay.

SPEAKER_03

We'll go ahead and you know, but I we'll talk. I never hit the same tree twice, though. So but that's pretty okay. Yeah, we'll be good.

SPEAKER_01

Well, Lisa has actually he's consistent though.

SPEAKER_00

Well, let's look at the positive side of that, though. He hit the same tree twice, right? Twice. That means you're on a my misses are are tight. Well, you have half the battle, but at least you patterned a dairy. Really?

SPEAKER_02

You only missed one because uh you you guys all saw it. I gave the second one a haircut. That is true. It is so you I mean it's technically not a miss. It's not a kill. It's not a miss. There was a difference though.

SPEAKER_03

You're right. There was a difference.

SPEAKER_02

And if we go back to even before that, you did shoot a hog, too. Did shoot a hog made contact with that one. Um made solid contact. So he's two solid contact.

SPEAKER_01

So he's two for three with contact. Sure. Oh, the the haters gonna be. Just starting. That ain't bad. No. The hog for one, I'm pretty sure he straight dome shotted it.

SPEAKER_02

I wish it had been on video. It's either a dome or the shoulder. It was one of the two.

Shipping Snafus And Mailman Chases

SPEAKER_03

I hope it was in a dome. Have y'all seen that hog on camera again? That was a big the one he shot? No, no, how do you know? You know what I mean? There's so many. Yeah, that's true. I didn't think there were that many over there, though. No, there's tons of.

SPEAKER_00

Anyways, we are gonna go up there to hang out with Cody up there. Tyler's up there. Tyler Stewart's up there. Girls are gonna be hunting first. Girls are hunting first, going to Illinois. Weather's right. We're all excited. I'm packed up, ready to roll out. As soon as we get done with this podcast. So can we speed the podcast up? I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding.

SPEAKER_01

Absolutely. I mean, how fast you won't speed it up. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. He's lying, he's waiting on the UPS.

SPEAKER_03

He waiting on something.

SPEAKER_00

You know we got some damn Amazon. Come on, Amazon. You know he's got some last minute catch. Last minute bullshit.

SPEAKER_02

He's sex with the mailman seeing the big meetings.

SPEAKER_00

I told Ashley, I said, You got the mailman's number? She goes, No, I said, Who doesn't have a mailman's number?

SPEAKER_02

I I will say I'd never heard about like meeting a mailman in town until I came to work for you. Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

We wear a mail, man. We're like, hey, where you at, man? We need some props.

SPEAKER_01

He will send you, he'll send you, he'll that'll send you down route or up route. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

One time to get some stuff. One time I ordered a uh a trolling motor. My trolling motor went out and I wanted to go fishing, right? Dude, I tracked that dude down. I tracked him down. Yeah. All day ordeal. Or or day. Yeah. Like, you know, I tell Gary to find them, tell somebody else to find them. Everybody just give up. I said, Well, I'm not giving up. I just kept calling, kept calling, kept calling, finally got a hold of somebody, you know. I'm like, I'm not hanging up. So tell me what I want to know, or we're gonna talk all day long. Okay. You know, it's what you gotta do nowadays. So was so I did find the trolling motor. Yeah, walk me through that. Was he delivering it that day? He was delivering it that day. And uh so it's not fast enough. Just not fast enough.

SPEAKER_02

How much time did we realistically save? Three, four hours.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Yeah, that's worth it. That's a lot of people.

SPEAKER_02

So, what time do you what time do you get it by?

SPEAKER_00

I don't know, it's like mid-afternoon sometimes. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

You know what's funny about it is like you know, you're gonna save three or four hours, but you're probably also three hours away from where you've got to be to actually use it. I know I'm not gonna do it.

SPEAKER_03

And knowing Tim he didn't need it until the next morning. I didn't put it on the boat probably.

SPEAKER_00

Time I got home, I was exhausted. He just wanted to look at it at that point. I was like, shit, I'm tired. It took forever to find this thing. I'll do it tomorrow.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, so you spent about six hours to get it three or four hours early.

SPEAKER_00

It was the game. It was just it turned into a game, you know. Sure. It was a problem that you're trying to solve. I motivate myself that way. Whatever. It's fun. Yeah. You know, I'm gonna track them down. I'm gonna get that damn trolling motor. I'm gonna go home.

Cold Fronts, Trail Cams, And Readiness

SPEAKER_01

And I'm gonna sleep, and I'm gonna sleep easy. Yeah. But by God, I'm gonna get that trolling motor early. Yeah. I'll tell you one thing, though, the weather's getting cold. All right. It's no, I mean you can feel it. Leaves are falling. It's I mean, it's happening.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Cody, the those pictures Cody was sending us, man, that Tyler sent some last night. Looks like winter trees over there.

unknown

It does.

SPEAKER_02

And it looks like big deer, too. And they got sunday.

SPEAKER_00

You guys got your elevator too lined out.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely.

Canada Travel And The Lost Sitka Bags

SPEAKER_01

We're fixing to be ready to rock and roll. So me and Jake and Shockley, we're actually not leaving for another week.

SPEAKER_02

No, Shockley is leaving. Me, Jake, and Daryl.

SPEAKER_01

Me, Jake and Daryl. Because Daryl's Daryl's actually still in Canada right now. He's probably missing because whenever we went to Canada last time, he was on the left side of the blind. Who's in the middle? Well, middle. Has he found all of his his gear?

SPEAKER_00

No. No. Still no gear.

SPEAKER_02

Talked to him this morning. So somebody's seen his bag at the airport. And you would think that after the fiasco we had two months ago flying to Canada, that he would learn. Let me tell you something. Well, he didn't take guns this time.

SPEAKER_03

He learned that part. He's lost all his body.

SPEAKER_00

I was talking to Ashley last night about it, and she goes, Well, what do you expect? You got three bags that says sick across it. The big bags, too. They're not the little bags. I mean, you know that shit's full of gear. And it's high dollar. It's high dollar. You think somebody's stolen? Possibility. I'm thinking so. I mean, you see a sickka bag rolling down through there. You got you got dang this luggage. I mean, they would find it. Even if it was laying somewhere. You got a sickka, you got a sickkup bag coming through there. Looks like a dick on a birthday cake rolling down through there, you know? You're going to notice it. Right? Have you ever seen a dick on a birthday cake? No, but probably it sticks off, probably. If you brought a birthday cake, did it stick out? It had a donor stuck on top of it, you'd obviously notice it. Well, yeah, you would notice it. Right.

SPEAKER_01

Because the cake is actually the thinner piece of the case.

SPEAKER_00

I'm just comparing it to uh a situation that's variable.

SPEAKER_02

But listen to the average Joe in an airport that's not a dick on a birthday cake to them.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I mean, it would stick out like that. That's what I'm trying to say. Not to the average Joe. But why where would it be? The average Joe usually puts dick fall out the airport.

SPEAKER_03

It could be if he went to Sika. If he went the same route we did, it could be anywhere from Little Rock to Canada. Yeah, for sure. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Three different airports. To Houston. But what I'm saying, can we not all agree the Sika bag, I mean, you know. It would be appealing to some. Yes. Extra.

SPEAKER_01

To the right set of eyes, it could be worth everything. It could have got stuff.

SPEAKER_03

But there's also a lot of liberals out there and that don't even people that don't have a clue what sit gets. That's what I was getting at. And airports are a lot of people.

SPEAKER_01

But it only takes one that does. It does. You're right. It only takes one that does.

SPEAKER_02

There is a lot of liberal people out there. There is. You know, the cats that you see every day. You think average people are liberals? No. I guarantee you, whoever took it.

SPEAKER_01

I would say no because of the fact that, you know, it's kind of what Shoffley said, though, you know.

SPEAKER_03

100% chance that.

SPEAKER_01

So there's actually a don't have purple hair. That one's actually described as a creamy dick drip cake. Oh my. Make a wish and blow me. Who Googled that?

SPEAKER_02

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. I need a U.S. currency uh transfer. How much is that worth?

SPEAKER_01

20 Who would pay for that? That's that's terrible. Yeah, that's like rubies or something. What is that? All right. That's$24.99. I'm like, holy, I'm like, holy shit. What is that currency? Like, holy shit, the inflation's out of the roof here.

SPEAKER_00

It's 100% fresh, though. And it's eckless.

SPEAKER_02

Now tell me. Who searched that between David or Daniel? 100% Daniel.

SPEAKER_00

Hey, did you not? That's a real thing. There's a bunch of them. People do this. Dude, I swear I didn't Google this.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, I can't wait for Tim's birthday. Oh my god.

Gear Value, Quality, And Cost Debate

SPEAKER_01

He would be exhausted from blowing that one out. No, he's been there a time or two.

SPEAKER_03

Would he blow?

SPEAKER_00

You could just not find anything on can on the internet. I'm telling you.

SPEAKER_01

You know, I would have been willing to bet that if I thought about it, I probably wouldn't have said that. We will not be selling these on the gear shop. These will not be on the gear shop. For one, we can't guarantee the freshness.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my God. It's terrible. Sorry, guys. Way, way, way left. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, this is a go hunt. Poor Daryl lost his stuff in Canada freezing. You know, he doesn't do cold weather anyway. So he's he's without his gear. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And he's also, you know, Daryl's also one of those guys that he had a plan for every piece of clothing he had packed in that bag. Oh, he did.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. And I talked to him this morning and I was like, are you in that true in, you know, you're supposed to be hunting right now. This is your last morning to hunt. He was like, oh no, I'm sitting in the truck. I'm waiting until like right at daylight to go out there. Because I don't have any clothes. Yeah. So he and it was a big thing. I thought they was he's getting some clothes sent out there. They didn't make it in time or something. I guess not because it was 7 a.m. He was still sitting in the truck.

SPEAKER_01

Well what leads me to believe that maybe his clothes were stolen is the fact that they just cannot locate the bag. That happens all the time. Just disappears.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, because even Miss Shin's bag probably got found. Huh?

SPEAKER_02

At some point it got found. Yeah, y'all are talking like you, you know, you can't. You know, that is actually instakarma. Instakarma.

SPEAKER_00

I'm just saying it couldn't happen.

SPEAKER_02

No. You're exactly right. It would be very easy for somebody to pick that up and walk it out. But airports do lose bags for long, you know, for a month. It doesn't make it right. No. Sucks.

SPEAKER_00

No, no, no. Don't they have some kind of insurance that has to pay him, though? I mean, I would think about it. I'd never really put insurance.

SPEAKER_01

But he's probably gonna have to fight it because whenever he puts the value of what he probably had in his bag, they're gonna say, Hey, no way.

Season Roadmap: Deer, Ducks, Fishing

SPEAKER_00

How can you put$15,000 in a damn luggage bag? Welcome to Sika. It's Sika logo? Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, no kidding. No, like you walk in a room and you got, you know, you have somebody dressed up really nice, nice clothes. Then you got the guy over there in the corner, you know, he might be dressed out and he might have sick on. You gotta be like, okay, that dude's the you know, he's got the most drifting. He's the baller.

SPEAKER_00

He's got the most driven. I mean, it's uh a good quality clothing is just expensive. And it's you get what you pay for. Yeah. 100%. I mean, I agree. There's not a piece of uh sick that I put on. I'm like, damn, this is pretty good stuff. And what's better about it is you put it on for a reason. Oh, absolutely.

SPEAKER_01

So it's lightweight, warm uh equipment that's that's worth it. I mean, if it's a cloudy, rainy day, I mean you got gear for that. You got gear if it's gonna be hot.

SPEAKER_00

I used to be one of those hot. I used to be one of those guys that that made fun of sicker people.

SPEAKER_01

I do too.

SPEAKER_00

Until I wore it, I'm like I'm stupid. You know, I'm the dumbass, you know.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah. People that talk really bad about it are they have obviously never experienced, never worn a piece of it.

SPEAKER_02

Because as soon as you wear a piece of it, you're like But we've all been on the outside looking in where it's like you see that$350 jacket being advertised, and you're like, Ain't no way. Yeah, ever.

SPEAKER_03

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And then you somehow get a little piece here from your buddy just in time and you decide to buy another piece, and then the floodgates open.

Urban Vs Country And Uber Tangents

SPEAKER_00

But the thing about the$350 jacket, though, is like you just wear that one piece, you don't have to wear everything below it that you have to add on to other people's equipment. You know, I'm convinced. So it's so so it definitely adds up. I mean, if you can wear something that's half as thick but twice as warm, and just way better off. Way better off. I mean way more comfortable. And you're gonna be able to hold on to it longer, last longer because it's better quality. Oh, yeah. But anyways, I mean, yeah, we're all here, we're all sick of fans here, but it sucks that Daryl actually lost his luggage. You know, that sucks so bad. We definitely feel for him. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

But you know, it happens, so we gotta move on.

SPEAKER_00

So we got November coming, we got deer, we got deer killing in Illinois. We're gonna try to kill 10 deer among all of us. We got a lot of shooters. Um, then we're gonna come back, we'll do some duck hunting, then we're gonna start fishing again.

SPEAKER_01

So no, you did that completely wrong. We're coming back, we're going straight back to Texas.

SPEAKER_00

I know, but I'm just saying, you know, we're gonna deer hunt. Yeah. Then we're gonna go duck hunting. Then we're gonna go.

SPEAKER_01

He's giving us short of the long, I guess.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I didn't break it down. I don't think everybody wants to know, you know, exactly what we're doing.

SPEAKER_01

I just figure if we're gonna talk about what we're doing, we're gonna tell them what we're doing.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. But anyways, uh, then we're gonna go start fishing again January and February.

SPEAKER_01

Hey, and I ain't gonna lie, guys, okay, I know that you heard us mention Road to Pro several times. Well, we just seen a one of the newer episodes come out of, you know, editing just for us to look at and see how it kind of turned out. And I've never been more fired up to go fishing. The Road to Pro is pretty cool than watching the the episode. And I mean, right now I was like, I want to go fishing right now. That's a bad thing because like it's not the time.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, you uh you're pretty far away from fishing season. Yes. No, we're not really starts in January. That's I would say that's a good place away. Three months. It's November.

SPEAKER_01

I'm telling you, but our heads are gonna be down, locked in on killing a big bug, and then it's gonna be ducks, and then you look up, you blink, a couple days goes by and it's fishing season again. Sure.

SPEAKER_00

And you know, that's one good thing about building boats and being in the outdoor industry, is it's you know, we can do all this stuff and it's it's it's fun. You know, go fishing, go hunting, meet all the good people, you know. Oh, if you weren't able to hunter fish, I seriously don't know what I would do. It'd be boring. I wonder I wonder what people do, you know, like these cities, you know, you go to these cities, like what do you mean what do they do? They go walk through airports and lose.

SPEAKER_02

I mean what for real, what do you do? You just go like I don't know, man. You go to parks, go to the club, and you know Jake's used to go. Yeah, he is city.

SPEAKER_00

Ah little rock. I mean, you went to college, he was forced to be in the city, but yeah, I mean, it's yeah. You still go out and hunt and stuff.

SPEAKER_02

That's what I did. Yeah. Yeah, just take an Uber? Take an Uber? No, I wouldn't take an Uber to go hunt. Okay, okay.

SPEAKER_01

Not usually. Not a little catastrophic issues. But most city people don't even have cars, they just go to Ubers and shit.

SPEAKER_00

Uh maybe like maybe a giant city. We should do that. We should call an Uber say could you take me to my hunt spot? I probably will. Get in the back of a Prius. Do we even have Uber around here? No. I don't think so. Oh, we don't know. That app we we can't call an Uber too.

SPEAKER_01

It's not like it don't summon people like. Don't we have like an Uber app? When you're in a city, it works.

SPEAKER_00

There's people there. Oh, really? Yeah. Gonna be around people. Yep. Ooh, I don't want to be there.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, you can't be in the middle of nowhere and be like, Uber app beer, two minutes. Yeah. You know.

SPEAKER_00

It won't work. Hey, can you hey I just killed a deer. I need to send an Uber. Oh, send the XL version. I gotta we gotta carry a deer.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we gotta put a deer in the back of the minivan. Yeah. Strap it on top. Now the Uber was new to me whenever we went to uh Nashville. It's a tool, man. It's yeah. I was really impressed with the U.S.

SPEAKER_00

I've never Uber before legit. I was really impressed with your Uber skills. Uber skills, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

When you go play guys like that, click a button. That's how that's how it works. You just click a button.

SPEAKER_00

And I walked out there in Nashville, I'm like, which one do I get into?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, they're they're everywhere. I mean, you don't really know. Somebody put a freaking leash on that. Jake had it on his phone. You can tell the car coming already. I know. That was crazy. He's in a gray Mishibishi eclipse.

SPEAKER_00

It's not really that neat.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, you don't think so? I don't know, man. Tell me why you don't think so. Well, considering. I wonder if we can do it on a lake in a boat, be an Uber. A boat Uber? Why would you want to be a boat uber? I don't know. People without a boat. Right.

SPEAKER_02

How would they get there? That's what I'm saying.

SPEAKER_03

We're gonna beat them on the bank and give them a ride. Give them a ride around a boat.

SPEAKER_02

You're talking about like boat rides? Yeah. So a boat ride. Oh, and just like taking to the same spot.

SPEAKER_00

They sell boat rides. We're talking about like a duck tour, like hot springs duck.

SPEAKER_03

Like they want to go, they want to go to the underwater sandbar. Like Hamilton, you don't drop them off. They gotta pay you.

SPEAKER_01

Well, you're talking about is a specific event thing. You think we should take a room? There's a sandbar party or something, and you take them to the park. Well, there's people who hang out at the underwater sandbar every pretty much every day of the summer.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, you so you think people need a uh ride to the sandbar? I think people would. I would say people without a boat are probably not showing up. I think we need to stick to Bill and Boats around here. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

We'll we'll put it on the idea board, though, shall we?

Target Buck: Patterning The Big Six

SPEAKER_01

We'll put it on the idea board and like, you know, it'll it'll it'll run through the checks. Yeah. I mean maybe we'll get erased. But so beach got you, you don't go after that big six point. Uh here's the issue. We've been after that bug. Okay, so if y'all don't know, the big six, what we're calling him, he could be a seven. We don't know how big that one time is, but he's a monster. I want to send Daniel a picture of the six. Daniel, you got pictures of the six? You can just pull it up and show it to the camera right there, it'd be just as good. Oh, yeah. And uh my screensaver. Anyways, this buck is man, he's so smart. You know, this is a high level, high IQ buck. Here, hold it closer. Oh my gosh, that's his lock screen. Yeah, that's crazy.

SPEAKER_00

He's on my screen because it keeps me focused. Show it again. He's beat me like three years or all of us.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I mean he looks pissed. A little backstory on his buck is so he's a big six now, but I have game camera pictures of the same deer being a big six like that for three years in a row now. So I would assume that he's probably at least, I don't know, five and a half, six and a half years old. Because he was at least two and a half, three and a half the first year we've seen him as a big six. And so he's one of the more mature bucks we have on the property. He's smart. He has hung around the same area though over the years, but this year he's done a little bit different. He's kind of stayed in creek bottoms. He's, you know, he's only moved at night. He's only only seen him at daytime one time, and it was one day before the early bow season. He's getting smart. Dude, I don't know. If we don't get him now, we'll never get him. I mean, he's one of those deers that he's just he lays low. I think the only way to really kill that buck is to get within sixty yards of his bed stealthily, and just in the middle of the day when he stands up, walks around a little bit, he probably only walks a 60 yard circle, you know, in the middle of the day and catch him that way. I don't I I don't know how else we'll do it.

SPEAKER_03

Whitney's chasing us big.

SPEAKER_01

Or we catch him playing dumb, chasing a little poontank through the woods. Boom. I mean, that's when you're gonna kill him. The season of love is among us. Yeah, that the rut's when you're killing him. Dude, that thing ain't just sitting in there during during the room. No, dude. You know he runs a roost. Rutted season. Yeah. He runs a roost, he has all the does. He's gonna get out. Yeah. Now, but that's when you I mean you can't really pattern that. You just here's the issue, though. You guys ready? Here's the main issue. Rut's like postponed. He is set up on the property we have here. Say, for example, this is the property, it's a rectangle, right? For example, he is right here hanging out. Normally he's hanging out over here, and we can kind of move on him, have some different game plays, but right now he's hanging out in a corner of it, and there's people know he's there because they are fully suited up, loaded around the edge, trying to kill him.

SPEAKER_00

You would think that'd push him towards y'all even more. I think it is. I uh we did I did pick him up uh last night and 600 yards from the last place we picked him up. Oh, really? So he is moving in.

E-Bikes, Crashes, And Comic Relief

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, well, I and I think honestly, the game plan for us right now is just to try to hold him in the center, either try to hold him another year or find a way to kill him. Yeah. But he gave us a ring around, and it's funny too. There's some footage, we'll have to put it up here with it. But we were riding our bikes in, we were being stealthy, we were hunting them for about four days, and and I got the privilege of riding behind dad on a bike, watching dad ride his bike, and I can't explain how funny this is. Talk about a dude that just and I I don't have a good video on my phone or I would show you. I have a video of a video, you know what I mean. We'll post a video up on the I watched him wreck four times in like a matter of three or four days. Like three, three, three days, my bad, which is more than one wreck a day on average. And one of them was really funny because it came off the bike. He hit a log and it kicked the tire over, and the bike laid over, and he came off the bike and he hit Superman down, hit the ground, he started laughing and he farted. He laugh farted when he hit the ground. And I'm sitting there videoing him, and I'm like, Did you just fart?

SPEAKER_00

It was funny. Everything was cut loose.

SPEAKER_01

One time he was he's about to go through some rough terrain, you know, so he's like easing up to it, making sure he could make it, and he eases a little too far, and all of a sudden he hits a little hole with his legs where they couldn't touch, and he just fell the bike just fell over. He stuck a leg out trying to catch himself, and it was just he didn't couldn't reach.

SPEAKER_00

I had my seat up too high.

SPEAKER_01

So it's entertaining. I think the highlight for us was the bike rides, man.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Yeah, it was cool. It was fun. It was fun. I thought it was cool. I mean, I enjoyed wrecking. I mean, like, damn, I wrecked three times. I feel good. I know, I know that one time I hit pretty hard though.

SPEAKER_01

But you can't lie though, the rainbow bikes are the way to go.

SPEAKER_00

The rainbow bikes are way to go. I'm just almost 50 years old. Well, you're getting I'm not as agile as I used to be. I didn't go to the gym or work out or something. I'm I'm going downhill. Work on the glutes. Reading glasses. I mean, me and your mom was shooting her bow or her bow a couple days ago, and I had to put the ring glasses on to see the freaking dot and the scope, but then I can't see the deer. How do you fix that?

SPEAKER_02

Like that's that downhill we were talking about.

SPEAKER_00

Like, then we only got one pair of ring glasses, so we got to share our ring glasses between both of us. You got some new ones now, though. We're going downhill. Yeah. You know what I do.

SPEAKER_01

Show us your new ones. I don't want to.

SPEAKER_00

Why?

Reading Glasses And Bow Sight Challenges

SPEAKER_02

Dude.

SPEAKER_00

We need to get you some cold reading glasses. Those are pretty cool. I bought a bunch of them. I just can't get the cool ones, man.

SPEAKER_02

We need to get you some cool ones.

SPEAKER_00

I'm not drinking. Don't they make like custom reading glasses?

SPEAKER_03

Oh, they're just reading glasses? With different frames. They look like magnifying glasses. They're flat black. Put them on.

SPEAKER_01

No, I don't want to. Just put them on. Ain't nothing wrong with putting them on. I don't want to. We gotta slide the hat up. You look smarter with them on. You do. I am smart. I'm impressed. I'm not gonna lie. I don't hate that look for you. No. I mean, I am smart. Does it make his eyeballs look any bigger? I don't know, look at him. No.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I wouldn't be caught dead in something like that.

SPEAKER_01

Why? You don't like this? Damn, Daniel said that those aren't his style. But hey, Daniel has custom prescriptions. Like he's been on this road, dude. Yeah. Right now, he's wearing a sickka of glasses, and you're over here. What are you wearing?

SPEAKER_00

Uh Daniel? What kind of glasses are you? Magellan.

SPEAKER_01

Uh Chipo Zinnies. Well, that's what this is. Is that like the real name or is that like it sounds like a fake name? No, it's uh Zinny. Cheapo Zenny's? No, well, Cheapo is one of those. These are any case.

SPEAKER_00

Shockley, you like my glasses, don't you? Yeah, that's him. Okay. Shockley wears ring glasses too, by the way.

SPEAKER_03

Do you really?

SPEAKER_01

I bet they say hi on your face.

SPEAKER_03

My wife makes some boy. I watch TV because I wear them like it's right here. I'll be reading. Look up at TV.

SPEAKER_01

Y'all can about to sew up some uh breeches.

SPEAKER_03

Oh Lord, these are those are 2.5. That's stout. I have to bring it way closer to see. Clear, clear, clear up here, but where I look at my phone, it's blurry.

SPEAKER_00

Hey, they don't look bad on you. You look smart, Shockley. You need to definitely wear them all the time.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

See, everybody wants reading glasses. They make fun of me. Oh, look at GBs, guy.

SPEAKER_01

The first thing, first thing because my mind is like making a face like that. I don't know why. I can't even see myself in the TV over there. See what I look like. Maybe because you don't need glasses. Yeah, can't be. I obviously can't.

SPEAKER_00

So do you have to shoot your bow with those? I haven't really decided. There's no way you can. There's no way. I practice with reading glasses. I practice with reading.

SPEAKER_01

So what do you do? What do you do if you shoot a compound bow and you need glasses? Like contacts? Do you have to wear contacts?

SPEAKER_00

I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

It's definitely a uh I'm not that blind yet. I can still see.

SPEAKER_00

It's definitely something in my life I'm dealing with.

SPEAKER_01

You know what I could you know what I can envision him using?

SPEAKER_00

Me too, though. I'm going through it too. Yeah, I'm going to it's bad, man. Like uh see, I'm 47, so I I didn't think 47 I'd go downhill as quick. I'm hitting rock bottom fast. Well, this might not be rock bottom, dude.

SPEAKER_01

Like you might get a lot worse. You think it's gonna get worse than that?

SPEAKER_03

Surely at 47, you're not, you know, well if you if you didn't if you couldn't if you didn't have any seeing problems at all, and now you do, it's it's gotta get worse. Well, these are a lot better, man. Like those are ray bands. Oh wow. Yep. We'll be waiting on another UPS truck before we leave.

SPEAKER_01

Here's slide them down a little further on your nose.

SPEAKER_00

There you go. Oh wow, you want me to look stupid, stupid? No, they're bifocals. Isn't that how you wear them? I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

I mean they look but you lean down and it you clear, and the more you go up, like looking at your palm down at the bottom you can read better. Oh uh transition from powerful and not so powerful. So you can look at somebody and then look down and read your phone. Oh damn, that's probably what I mean. That is cool. Like you were doing aggressive bifocal.

unknown

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

You definitely look smarter. Really? Yeah. Well, you don't look as stupid in them. I mean, like I mean, I can see clearly is what I'm saying. Sure, dude. Sure. When I put these on, you mean he was all over the place.

SPEAKER_01

I can see him like kind of some kind of like when it comes to shooting his bow, having like a specialty piece made that goes over his ears. Just has a little piece of glass that covers his eyeball. Oh, they're all over the place.

Illinois Standards And PB Goals

SPEAKER_00

And they're also good lord. Oh wow. Those are really nice. Yeah, you can get some auto-darkening. I like those. Those are nice. That's probably what Ashley needs, too.

SPEAKER_01

You need a glasses sponsor, dude. Like a reading glass sponsor.

SPEAKER_00

I knew that was coming.

SPEAKER_03

It's a confidence boost, dude. Dude, I like them. I might actually need glasses like full time. You probably do. Nerd. Might have something to do with my migraines I was having all the time.

SPEAKER_01

It could have. I guarantee you it does. That makes perfect sense. If you can't see, your eyes are straining, giving yourself headaches. Look good at him, Charlie. You should wear glasses all the time. He don't know how to take it. You know, it's like your guys don't know how to take compliments from dudes like that. You know, like you look after look good. I do look good though. If you say so. It's an eye of the beholder. If you say so. It's an eye the beholder.

SPEAKER_03

I do like these.

SPEAKER_01

I do too. I like them. So like as far as what we're gonna shoot in Illinois, let's talk about that real quick. Let's talk about our standards real fast before we hang this thing up because I'm going for a PB. I'm looking for a PB. Well, that would that won't take very much. It won't take much. What are you talking about? What do you call personal best? Personal best.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, me too. And it won't take much for me either. It won't take much. 130, you'll probably get popped.

SPEAKER_00

130. I ain't never kidded 130. Yeah, I mean, dude, 130 is a good tier. I mean. Well, 120 might get popped in. I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

The standards done got lowered. Hey, day one, day one, the 130 might not get popped. Well, yeah. Day three, the 130 for sure gets lower.

SPEAKER_00

It's all right. It's all going to be determined if uh what kind of deer we got on camera. You know, if there's if there's a good deer on camera.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. From what Tyler sent yesterday, um there's uh absolutely some good deer on camera.

Nerves, Crossbows, And Velocity Talk

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, there is. Yeah, I see some good deer. Yeah, uh I'm I'm I'm excited to get up there. I think we're gonna leave, you know, today and go up there and get her tags and get her license and you know, look around a little bit, probably set some cameras out, kind of get a game plan for Saturday morning.

SPEAKER_01

Feeling good about it? Yeah, man. Always. Like do you do uh do you see yourself going up there smoking a giant? Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

I see it too, because the deer are up there absolutely doing the thing. Like the videos I sent you to my father-in-law, his lease is in northern Oklahoma, close to Kansas, and he's got I mean you're gonna see some good deer, you know.

SPEAKER_00

It's it's a lot of different hunting than what we're used to. What about your nerves? You worried about your nerves? Yeah. Me too. I'm thinking about taking crossbow.

SPEAKER_02

Crossbow. You don't say that. Just kidding. You just be a real man and miss with a compound, Shockley.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, uh, you know, up here, you know, you know, up here hunting in Arkansas, you know, yeah, you'll see some studs here and there, but most of the time you're just used to 120s, you know. Oh, 120 here is a I mean that's why I'm saying that's a big deer here. So, you know, you go up there and you see a 150, 160, man, that's a whole different animal. Oh, yeah. Bodies are flight. Man, it's just it's it's it's you know it and you see.

SPEAKER_01

I've only I've only confirmed see one deer that was like 160. And your heart's gonna be pumping out of your body. And it was looked like an elk to me, dude. Like it was it was that insane. You're not helping none. Oh man. You see a and these win, you know, these girl I so like Whitney and mom are gonna be up there.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, they're shooting first.

SPEAKER_01

They got they got the biggest buck they've probably ever seen with their own eyes, you know, walk out in front of them. You know they're gonna be nervous. They're probably nervous now.

SPEAKER_03

My Whitney is nervous now.

SPEAKER_00

No, actually, hey, actually, uh, she's been packing up and you know, but she's I can tell she's nervous. She's chill, though. She's gonna be like, she is chill, but she's also taking her crossbow, too. Which already shows she's not playing. She knows she missed one with her compound this year, jumped her string. So, but she she openly said that it was her fault because she didn't practice enough. So she's not taking that kind of chance on the on a 150 plus, you know. Which is smart. I don't know, which is smart, you know. Especially for somebody just sitting into bow hunting, you know. And I do think she could do it. Well, she can do it, but who wants to who wants to take a risk and miss an opportunity like that? I mean, of course you're gonna have different opportunities, but you know, it's also fun to actually kill something and uh it's rewarding, so especially for ladies, you know. Yeah. So I I don't blame her one bit. I normally be talking shit about people that shoot crossbows. Yeah, me too.

SPEAKER_03

I know I I like I encouraged it actually.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I did too. You know, then uh after we shot her crossbow, you know, she shoots a raven.

SPEAKER_01

Which is if you don't know what a raven is, guys, that is probably the daily thing with strings. She was starting out six strings.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, she was shooting a coffee can, you know, circle at 100 yards. I'm like, geez. I think I need one of them. Oh, they're bad. Yeah, and it's auto. She has an auto-range scope, so she just hits a button and auto-ranges it. I mean, uh, it's it's easy peasy. Yeah, it is easy. You shoot a coffee coffee can, you know, 100 yards, three arrows. I mean your confidence level goes way up. Oh, yeah. I got we needed doing that at 80. Yeah. I mean, I didn't shoot it at 100.

SPEAKER_01

And it's just I'd be scared of like shooting at a hundred yards zone, the deer just being like, oh, take a left. You know, like you just like shooting.

SPEAKER_00

It gets there, that crossbow gets there pretty quick. It does. It gets there pretty quick. You also gotta remember, too, 100 yards away, that deer's not gonna be able to hear it as good. That is true. You know, so that is true. Um you know, anywhere from like 20 to 50, that thing's smoked. Oh, it's good because so fast. Oh yeah, for sure. You know, after 80 to 100 yards, you know, I mean, if it's windy, the deer ain't never gonna hear it. It's gonna get cut.

SPEAKER_03

So hold on. 100 yards windy is a little sketchy. How fast do you shoot? Yeah, I mean, I wouldn't have the thing is I wouldn't shoot it at 100.

SPEAKER_00

I think it's around 350. By the way. 350. What? The the Raven. I think she's shooting 350. Feet per second? I think. Absolutely not.

SPEAKER_03

It's over 400.

SPEAKER_01

It's 430 something.

SPEAKER_03

Mine's th mine's 380, so I know yours is four. Uh it's pretty high.

SPEAKER_00

You might be right. Is this feet per second, I'm guessing? Yes, F IBO. It might be 400, I don't know. I bet it probably is 400. I'm not shooting 350. I'm a couple of things.

SPEAKER_03

But they got different, they got different uh.

SPEAKER_00

I don't think so. Bows. I don't know which one the. I don't know, something.

SPEAKER_01

It's over 400. It has to be.

SPEAKER_02

It's pretty quick. It's pretty quick. Just looked it up. Sound travels at about a thousand feet per second. So the the sound's gonna get there just before, you know. Oh, wow. Call it the water. Wow. Shit, dude. Like, you know, wow twice as fast as well. Basically, what I'm saying is half the the travel time of the arrow, that's how far in advance they will they will hear the sound. Yeah, sound gets there twice as fast.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but did did but did it count for the wind? Like, no, no. We normally have wind interface, you know? No. So this is in a back this this is a complex.

SPEAKER_01

This is gonna go down a rabbit on the body. This would be a complex equation to figure this out.

SPEAKER_02

I just thought I'd throw that up.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, how many gas poles are we talking about?

SPEAKER_03

You know, what range? You know, roughly half, roughly twice as much. Which one should you have? You don't you think the R29X?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, something like that.

Camp Logistics And Hopes For Ten Deer

SPEAKER_03

Or R500. No, the R500 is like super fast. 502 feet per second. Yeah, that sucker's damn rolling, dude. The R29, which is what you almost said a while ago, it's 450. That's still smoking. Okay, yeah. 450 is fast. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Would you cost enough? I thought I thought we'd get to 500, man. That thing is fast. So I bet it's loud, though. I bet it's loud.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but it's so fast.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but it's so fast, yeah. You know, like who cares? Like Jake said it's fast. 500? I mean, it's half the speed of sound.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah, roughly. Yeah, so that's pretty quick. Yeah. Pretty quick.

SPEAKER_01

That's pretty pretty quick, guys. That's pretty quick. We'll get to the biggest. You know, we do some complex math on this thing. I'll tell you, at some point we gotta do a montage of our math equations real pretty much. That'd be like a mod 40.

SPEAKER_02

Like, you know, in five years, you'll do 20, 30. Yeah, it'd be like a mod 40 versus versus DPS. We did that quick math earlier.

SPEAKER_01

See, loud don't matter.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, because you're fast.

SPEAKER_03

Loud's fast.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. That's right. Yeah, slow and loud would suck. But there's a lot of people still hunt uh deer with crossbows. I mean, crossbows is a big deal.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, there's a lot of people that have to, though. Yeah, sure. I mean, there's people that realistically they have to shoot a crossbow, man. They got shoulder problems or their back, or you know, they're older or whatever.

SPEAKER_00

Sometimes it's nice as getting the blind and just kick back and chill. Chill and not worry about man. When a deer walks out, I'm in a damn saddle and I'm in a tree, and I see a deer, I'm like, oh boy, here we go. All right, you gotta do everything just right. Yeah, don't move, don't do this. Shit, I gotta piss. Bam! You know, all this goes through your head at one time. Yeah, you know, and it's it's nice sitting in the blind just to kick back, it's okay.

SPEAKER_01

For me, I'm extremely nervous bow hunting up until the point where I get fully drawn back. Because once I'm fully drawn back, I'm like Deal sealed. I'm like, holy shit, it's gonna happen. Holy shit, it's gonna happen. I shouldn't have said that.

SPEAKER_00

You're right. But but but there is a point though, you know, I've been bowing for a lot, a lot of years, and it's like, damn, I got drawed back on it.

SPEAKER_01

Hey, now I have not now I have now it's me. Yeah, now it's me. It's me now.

SPEAKER_00

I'm excited, man. I'm super pumped. I'm ready. I'm ready to get out of here.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Get out of here.

SPEAKER_01

Got the yetis packed up, ready. Y'all go get away.

SPEAKER_00

Got all the yetis packed up, got uh rainbow bikes rainbow bikes. Uh Ricochet did a good job hooking us up with rainbow bikes. So we'll go out there and ride them. Uh we got our uh new hunting trailer we're taking out there. Uh we got a lot of cool stuff. It's made voyage for it. Yeah. So we got a lot of cool stuff, a lot of new gear. Um it's gonna be fun. It's gonna be really fun. So hopefully we get it done, you know. Hopefully we can kill ten. We got ten shooters, so hopefully we kill ten.

Shoutouts, Guides, And 200-Inch Dreams

SPEAKER_01

Between the ten of us, somebody's gonna find an acorn by accident. Somebody's finishing stud. Yeah, I mean, come on now. We're in prime hunting land here. Okay, there's ten of us.

SPEAKER_03

Cody finished. Pretty much guiding.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, Cody knows his shit. Cody Tyler does too, man.

SPEAKER_02

Cody killed one yet this year.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, he actually killed one in the early archery in uh Arkansas. No, I did the deer killer. Yeah, I mean, walk him down, dude. Yeah, I'm gonna say he stalks them down.

SPEAKER_00

I mean you can't put we can't put ourselves in a better. I can't even compare myself to Cody. Like Ashes, like, who's taking us hunting, Cody or you? What the what does that mean? You know what it means. I know what it means. You know, that just tells you, man. Like you kill a 200-inch deer, you're on the damn next level. There's not many people that's what a real women worry about.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, what's the percentage of people that have the ha have a 200-inch deer? Oh, it can't be in a percentage. It's gotta be less than one.

SPEAKER_00

That's kind of woman wants to. That's kind of woman I'm married to. It ain't about nothing else, but hey, you killed the you killed a 200-inch deer. Wow, that's good.

SPEAKER_01

Well, let me ask you this, okay? If you say you do kill a 200-inch deer, yeah, right, but mom thinks that Cody put you out there. Will you will you gain any respect points from that? No, you won't. He'll he'll earn extra for getting your goofy ass in position killing.

SPEAKER_00

Did you have to do goofy?

SPEAKER_01

I'm just saying. That's how she's gonna see it though. I'm not goofy. She's gonna say, wow, he's so good he could get him in position. I hope, I hope I'm next. So he's double XP.

SPEAKER_00

You know what I'm saying? I know, I know, I know, I know. I hear about it all the time. I'll take it.

SPEAKER_03

I don't have a kill two in a gear buttons. I'll reckon you want to say. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Thanks, Cody.

SPEAKER_02

Thank you, Cody. Shout out, Fitcher. Yes. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

No, he's actually he's pretty good. If you if you ever get to meet him, he's kind of quiet. He's kind of like sneaky. Observant. Yeah, he's like real patient.

SPEAKER_01

One of his factors.

SPEAKER_00

We had him on the podcast earlier. I don't know what uh which one it was. It was it was a while back. Yeah, we'll put the episode down. Yeah, that dude, that dude's a sure enough killer. And uh, you know, uh, we leased the land this year up there. We're just gonna have a good time.

SPEAKER_01

Yep, hang out, kill some big bucks, hopefully, and uh hopefully have a good time. Yep. Definitely gonna shoot at him. Well, guys, we'll Jake.

Ethics Rule: Blood Or Hair Ends Tag

SPEAKER_00

Hey, now let me tell you. Let's review the stats of the table real fast. Can we all agree though? But but but if you draw blood, if you draw blood or hair, you're done. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Hair?

SPEAKER_00

Yes. Yes. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

That's not I thought it was just blood.

SPEAKER_00

That deer's so alive. I just made that. I made things like that. I made that roll up. But if you draw not agree. But if you do draw blood, it is over. It is over. Sure. Yeah. Yes.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

You can't uh yeah, you can't sit there and bloody up a herd. Yeah, Jake.

SPEAKER_03

But be prepared, but be prepared to look for a deer for a long ass time. Oh, Jake, but them trees.

SPEAKER_02

Hey, don't worry about your herd, but them trees are not safe. I will be yeah, I'll be out there. If I draw blood, I will be out there until yeah.

SPEAKER_00
