Your boat can have plenty of motor and still feel slow, unstable, and hard to drive and the culprit is often the water, not the horsepower. We pull up Tim Scott’s Facebook clips and walk through what we’re seeing behind the transom: how water leaves the hull, when a jack plate starts dragging, and why “clean water to the prop” is the difference between a boat that fights you and a boat that runs like it’s on rails. 

We dig into H22 and HB22 jack plate design, transom angle, and trim range, using real examples from duck boats and bass boats. If the bottom of the jack plate interferes with the flow, it creates turbulence, adds air to the water, and spikes prop slip. That leads to over-trimming, RPM loss, and that sketchy feeling when the boat hits chop or starts walking. It's five o'clock and you're off the clock with B Scott. Today with me is Tim Scott, and what we're going to do is special. We're going to go through his Facebook and watch the videos, the posts he's been making about the HB22 and the H22. And we're going to go through there and explain why it works and how. So what I mean by that is the balance, right? The prop, how the motor works, the leverage behind it. We're going to explain why it's important and what is super important to make your boat run efficiently. So before we get into it though, leave a like, subscribe, hit the bell for notifications, hype the video. Let's get into it. All right, go ahead and pull up Tim's Facebook page. Alright, there it is. There it is right there. Tim Scott, if you guys are not following, you need to. We're talking so much on there, posting different boats, different models. We're setting all these boats up, and there's a lot of information on his Facebook page. So if you're not already, go ahead and follow him. Let's go ahead and start going down it and just looking at the videos and breaking it down, maybe touching on a few comments that we've gotten, questions, things like that. So

Jack Plate Clearance And Clean Water

right here, watching the nano watch. What it's showing is how there's no interference with the jack plate with the water coming off the boat. Right. And talk about what's so important, like what that allows you to do.

Well, you know, you know, that that jack plate right there is um, I don't know if it's an eight or ten. It's kind of hard to tell. It's an eight inch. No, it looks like a 10, huh? It's an eight, it's eight on it, yeah. That's why I put the stickers there. Uh, but yeah, so the uh RDBs, I mean, obviously that's a mock, you know, Mach 1 RDB or Marsh Runner style boat. It's our performance boat. And um you can see even all bolts need to be balanced, right? So that jack plate's gonna give you um the weight on the jack on the transom bolts, but you see the 22 degrees, how that affects it. Now that's that's somewhat smooth water, but what people don't understand was that water gets rough, it's still, you know, you know, you know, will give you problems, you know. So this is a prime example of the H22 on how it's staying clean. Um most jack plates, you know, it'd be angled down. So it follows the you know, it follows the angle of the transom. Our trans is 20 degrees. So, you know, if that was a straight angle off the back of that, you know, bottom side of the jack plate, obviously it would be dragging water.

Yeah, I mean you're talking, I mean, it'd be hanging down three, three and a half inches below where where that one's hanging. And you know, you see people post theirs online a lot of times, like, look, mine's not dragging. Well, for one, it'll be very close to dragging and it's on calm water.

You know, that's what the boat's tilting, right? Yes, that's right.

And that's on calm water. But what that helps you with is if you are in a little bit of chop and your boat's through the chop, if it's not like that, you'll notice that it will be dragging in the chop.

That's right, that's right. But what's more importantly is what's on back of that boat right there. That's uh that's actually a standard four-stroke.

And uh, you know, with 14 degree dead rise of the RDBs and the marsh runners and all performance holes, you know, only way to get that jackplate higher is horsepower because what happens is it will drive that hull to the surface of the water. It will. And, you know, then at that point, let's say you was running like directly in the center, like you had enough power on that boat that would actually drive that boat to the surface with speed and horsepower, uh, that jack plate would be higher out of the water. It would. And you know, a lot of people don't understand that um lack of horsepower is what makes these drag, these, these jack plates drag. And this is why we developed H22.

Yes, to help that with these heavier, slower force grows.

A lot of people just don't understand it. You know, you know, you see it all over the internet, and this is why we did this podcast today, basically based off of my personal Facebook page, is because you know, a lot of people just don't understand the concept of a jack plate and actually what it's what the purpose is for. You know, um, you know, this jack plate works on every boat we've tested. I mean, it's it's actually done really well. I mean, it's done good on Havocks, it's done good on a lot of other aluminum boats, it's also done good on glass boats, you know. Um the you know, the glass boat industry is struggling too, but we can talk about that when we get on down in the you know in the future. Yeah, on some other videos for sure. But yeah, this is a typical, this is a typical performance um lineup from Havoc. It just you get super clean water, and you know, you know it's a boxing dragon dragging water. So it's you know, it was built eight years ago to be able to tilt, yeah. Which reduces water pressures on the bottom of the boat.

Right, right. And I tell you what, actually, go back up to that video again. There's one more thing I want to talk about. So, as you can see in the video, once he pulls it back up, is how clean that water is out the back of the boat, straight to the prop. See what happens is if you do have anything dragging water, even in the slightest uh amount, what it does is it makes turbulence in that water, puts air bubbles in the water, and it causes your prop to have more slip.

Yeah, but you can also see too in that video where the uh there is a lot of dark water there. So there's, you know, obviously there's two people in there because one's driving, one's filming, which is pretty darn impressive. So it would naturally be just a little bit higher if it was one person in the back of the boat, but still, you can still see that the horsepower, you know, it still takes quite a bit of horsepower to get these boats to surface. It's kind of like it's kind of like you know, deep, you know, deep diving crankbaits, you know. Oh, yeah. You know, you can't drive a crankbait down to deep water unless the bill is big enough. So it's kind of opposite. Big enough, or you're absolutely cranking it, which is horsepower. That's right. It's kind of like horsepower. So, you know, more horsepower, bigger damer props will surface the uh surface the boat to the surface. Now, the majority of the boats you see online, you know, especially in the summertime blues, you see, a lot of the boats are overpowered. You know, and you know, putting an overpowered motor on a transom really helps and bypasses a lot of this small bouncing issues or clean water. You can actually power through it. Right. This is a prime example of overpowering.

So, yeah, so this right here was sent in, you know. I mean, look at this boat running. I mean, this is H22, customer got it. He said it on the boat. You know, it's it's just like there's a lot of power, big prop, it's balanced right, and the water's coming off the end of the boat, and it's and it's stable.

And if you notice, it the reason he's saying, all right, so it's stable. The reason being it's so stable is the 20-degree bottom on the jack plate allows your boat to tilt to the degree it is right there and not drag. And the dragging water is what makes things unstable.

Absolutely. And it also creates prop slip.

Yep. So it's kind of like uh, I mean, it's a double edge. Once you start dragging water, you got a whole bunch of stuff to deal with.

Yeah, so so so people all over the line say, well, my normal jack plate tilts and raises and does all that good stuff. I absolutely will. It absolutely will. I mean, you could take a uh old VJ and you can set it up and it will do the same thing, but it's going to require weight. And you take the conventional jack plates are built now that's weighs what this H22 weighs, and the angle on the bottom of the boat is wrong, the of the jack plate is wrong. And when that boat tilts, it is constantly drags, and you've got to power through that drag.

And and oftentimes you can't. You can't you can't power through it because you can't ever get there.

Yeah, I mean, especially the tiller handle, man. You know, if your lower units moving up and down, that's why I always encourage people to put the pins in them. But you know, if you're if your prop is moving in that water column and you're gassing off, gassing off, you just don't have no control of your boat. So, you know, the foundation of setting a boat up is getting clean water, getting the boat stable. And once the boat gets stable, then you can start working on props.

Absolutely. Absolutely. Yeah, that boat's flying too. Yeah, and you can just see it's just it's just he's cleaned up, he's running, it's stable. He's not fighting tiller torque, he's not fighting none of that. And look at the water he's in, too. It looks like there's some chop there.

Yeah, absolutely. So, I mean, once you get the boat balance, and that's that's what a lot of people don't understand. Like, if you get a balance, you get it set up right, that boat will cut through the water. Absolutely. And you want the boat to cut through the water. You don't want your motor fighting your boat.

And like another thing, too, so he's in chop there. And you know the water is re is getting removed out the back of the boat efficiently because he's running through the chop and you don't see the chop in his rooster tail.

That's right.

You know, whenever you see chop in a rooster tail when somebody's going through chop, it's because the boat is not staying connected. Right. That's right.

So I mean that right there, he's he's running about as efficient as you can run.

And and I guarantee you that that old boy right there is running six percent or less on prop slip. Right, right. You know, and and you know, if we actually told you guys what we were getting out of our prop slip, you'd you'd just say we're lying. Yes. So we don't even tell you. But if you get your boat balanced, you get all this stuff set up and and and use the technology of H22, and and Bob's done a great job helping us develop it.

You know, when you put all this together, your boat just turns into a machine.

Just of efficiency.

It's how it was supposed to be.

You know, yeah, like you know, I get comments all the time. I mean, I mean, my phone is blowing up, guys. And you know, they're like, How are you getting these speeds out of a 54 stroke? I said, Well, have you ever ran a prop at 3% slip? Or do you or do you even know what that is?

Yeah.

You know, so I mean, if you're running a prop at 17% slip, you know, and you get down to three, you're gonna pick up some speed.

Prop Slip Explained With Real Examples

That's right. You know. So this right here, this is a good video right here, and it's uh a 1760 uh VJ, a 20, you know, it's a 2026 model. And and it would also show you how the H22 is helping that boat. And you know, a lot of people say, yeah, it's a light boat, but it's about length. It's about length, it's not about the weight of the boat, it's about length. Um, you know, a light boat that's 17 foot long, it still has a lot of leverage at 17 foot.

And you have to be able to pick that bowel up with that prop. And you know, you know, you know, I've been I've been preaching this, preaching this, preaching this that look, you know, if you buy a boat and you go buy a bunch of props to start out with, it's completely backwards. It is completely backwards. Because once you get a boat balanced and set up right where there's no pressure, then you know, all the props are gonna run somewhat the same. That's right. You know, they will. We got another video coming out pretty soon, and so it's gonna absolutely blow your mind. But uh, we're not gonna spoil that. We got it coming soon. But it also shows you what the weight is doing to that boat. It is actually helping that boat run. And the reason why it's helping that boat run is because the boat is balanced and you're giving all the RPMs back to your prop. You are so let's say he's you know, let's say he's running a 17 pitch or 23 pitch, it doesn't matter. So that's 23 inches per rotation, and if you're running 6,000 RPMs, you're spinning that thing that fast. Yeah and if you start uh calculating your prop slip, let's say you have a 16, 17, 18 percent prop slip of those of that 23 inch of rotation per RPM, that's where you're losing speed. I mean you're yeah, it's getting robbed. Nobody understands that, you know, that once your boat gets set up, you can really focus on your prop slip. That is where you're gonna pick up anywhere from two to six to seven to eight miles per hour because we're seeing it today in the basketball industry. That's right.

Yeah, people are like, you wouldn't believe the prop I'm able to turn. I'm turning a I'm turning a 28-pitch, blah, blah, blah. And I'm like, well, I mean, there's got to be an insane amount of prop slip.

A lot of prop slip. I just got off the phone with a customer. He says he's turning a 26-pitch prop with our setup. I'm like, well, we're getting a lot of prop slip. You know, uh, he actually has the motor on the transom, and I'm like, you know, that's fine. You need to drop your motor a little bit. You got too much prop slip, you're losing bite. Um, you you really need to get a good quality jack plate. And of course, he's been following us and he understands the concept of all this.

And he's like, Wow, you mean I'm really running this much prop slip? How I mean I'm already running 46 miles an hour. How fast will I run once I get it down to 60%? I said, imagine you're gonna be in the mid-50s.

Oh, yeah.

You know, but you just gotta pay attention to your prop slip.

For sure you will be.

Mm-hmm. So here, so here's right, here's a good video.

And we can talk about the VJ ST too a little bit on this one.

Yeah. This is a good post, it got a lot of heat. Um, you know, this VJ, what is the new 2027 VJ? You know, Antony, it's all over the internet, and I'm getting tons and tons of messages about it. It's it's just insane. And basically what this is, you know, you know, we had an eight-degree VJ for years and years and years and years, and you had to use jack plates to get them to actually uh ride on the plug or a lot of horsepower, right?

So, you know, most of our business, most of our customer base is it goes to a dealer and they sell it to everyday guy that wants a four-stroke. Yeah. Right. So, but more and more on TikTok and Facebook, you see these guys like toting the nose and dragging the transom through the waters. I call it the TikTok tilt.

Yeah, I mean, it's not efficient.

It's not efficient.

They're rolling a big wave of water under the under the boat.

It's terrible, it's terrible. I mean, if you ever see longitudinal cracks in your bottom of your boat, that's because you're piling the bottom of my boat. Yeah, I mean, you're beating the water. All that water pressure, all that water pressure. Poor boat. I mean, I mean, I mean, if you're tilting at 28 degrees and you're going 45 miles an hour, you're dragging that boat through the water, you're pushing it through the water, and that's where you're gonna see a lot of water rolling in front of the boat when it's tilted. You don't want that. No, you know. So to I mean, there is ways to do that without the performance, you know, you know, our performance holes, but it's not necessarily the correct way of doing it. Uh, this is a prime example of the correct way of doing it. So you can actually control boats with pressure off the bottom of the holes, or you can go fast and control your boat with balance and horsepower. Yeah. So we choose to go balance and horsepower because we like fast boats like Allison's and bullets and ballistics, right?

So you can look at all these glass boats on the industry and look at the bottom of the boats, and you could tell right out of the gate on how that boat's gonna run based off of the off of how it's built. Because hooks and curves and and turndowns, all that is a form of controlling the boat with water pressure. Yeah.

I mean, water I mean, a lot of times water pressure will make or break how that boat's gonna run. So we'll get down there first thing when we get a boat, and if it's a boat we haven't set up before, we've never seen before, we get down there, we look at it, and we start pointing stuff out right away.

Yeah, absolutely. So, I mean, I mean, guys, I mean, you guys watching this podcast, I mean, just look at the basketball industry. Look at the Allson's, look at the bullets, look at the ballistics, look at all the fast stuff, you know, and look at those holes compared to an everyday hole. Now, I'm not gonna say the names because we're not here to bash people, but if you actually look at the different hole designs out there, you can see what boats you're gonna run in the 70s and what boats you're gonna run in the 80s and 90s.

Mm-hmm.

And what is the difference between those two boats? If you look on the internet and you compare weights of these boats, right, which is affected by hole shot, you can obviously pick out the faster boats. You can, for sure. Mm-hmm. Yeah.

And the thing about it is too, is like at that point, at that level, water pressure, uh weight is not near as important as water pressure.

Not as what people unless you go and race like a 660 drag, weight's not really that important. You can actually make a fast boat run fast on top end um within the industry standards for sure, because it's super low right now.

Yeah.

You know, it's super low.

SPEAKER_02

And and I mean, and it's sketchy making a slow boat run fast. It is. It's sketchy because the water pressure part doesn't change.

Yes, because you'll start yes, if if your boat's not designed for the top end, bottom end, uh, with the right transom angles, and you know, and and you know, I mean, this is just the truth, guys. Like if you're forcing a boat to do something, it's sketchy.

It's sketchy. It is. It's sketchy. I mean, boats that have water pressure issues. I mean, we've done it time and time again. Uh once you start adding power to it, adding the leverage it needs, working the pro doing whatever you're doing to just go faster and faster and faster, you hit a wall. You do hit a you do hit a speed wall. And it's like the further you try to push past that wall, the sketchier it gets. Because I mean, that water pressure is amplified by power and speed.

Yes, that's right.

When it comes to water.

That's right. So and vibration of the hole and everything else.

Yeah, I mean, slow boats, it's sketchy getting go.

It is. I mean, more and more bass boats that we actually test and drive, is more we're we're we're realizing. I mean, I I remember telling you the other day when you was testing one of these glass boats, we're not gonna mention names, but I I remember telling you, it's hey man, be careful.

You know, because you just know it's ri I mean it's no, just be careful.

I mean, it's not like it's it's not like a a boat that's built for speed because like we know there's pressure spots on the bottom of that boat that controls the bow, and we're trying to bypass that with horsepower. So once you start bypassing something with horsepower, it will become sketchy and it will cause abuse on the bottom of your boat.

And like a good way to look at it is this like say you say you do you do get it to that point, right? You bypass the the part of the hole that holds water pressure to actually go fast, and it's great until you don't bypass it.

That's right.

And you might be on the big end and then all of a sudden a a ton of water pressure hits in a spot it doesn't need to. And I mean, just that fast, you know, next thing you know, you can be hooked up.

And and you know, we s we see it. I mean, we've tested and tested and tested all kinds of boats in the industry. And I'm telling you, we you can look at the bottom of a boat and I can say, all right, this is a pressure design boat, this is a fast design boat. And you know, the havocs are more in the fast category than it is the other category. We depend on we depend on balance, uh, prop efficiency, and horsepower. Right. And that's gonna give you the best performance overall. So this so this boat right here, let's go back up there and that boat right there. Yeah, we're gonna show that.

Balance First Then Choose A Prop

So this is actually my ballistic. Um probably one of my all-time favorite boats of all time. Um it's it it it just it just it's it's just fast. And you know, the it does have H22 on there. Uh, we actually had to raise the power pose up on this boat um to get that water pressure away from the power pose. It appears that it's still a little low. I wish it'd get a little higher.

See, that's that's the thing about a lot of these boats, is like it's not only jack plates affecting uh in the bass boat. I will say in the bass boat world, it's not only the jack plates affecting the water pressure, yeah. But it's the it's the it's your anchors.

Yep. In the back. Yep, and and you know, right here we're running 85 miles an hour, 83, I actually I think it was 83 to 85. Uh the boat's completely loaded down. I got Zach in there, he weighs, what, 250? Somewhere in there. You know, um, the boat's pretty well balanced. I mean, I'm not walking the wheel too much. Um the if those power poles were a little lower in the water, I'd be fighting the wheel a little bit more. Um the H-22 is is getting clean off the bottom of the boat. You know, you see where the water's breaking. The water's breaking probably the point of contact is probably around the live well area, uh, rear deck live well. Uh, you see it rolling out the corners of the hull. That's almost perfect. And you know, it's a well, it's it's a good foundation. And it's stable. And that water coming off on that boat ain't getting gripped.

It's not getting turned down by nothing. And that is what knocks your boat off pad.

I mean, it has a high way for that water to get released on.

SPEAKER_00

It's kind of like it's kind of like when you hold two water hoses in the same amount of flow, same amount of volume or amps, whatever you want to call it, and you spray it into a five, two, five gallon buckets, you put your thumb on one, it's the same amount of volume of water, right? But it's pressurized. The volume is gonna the bucket with the volume is gonna fill it first.

Yeah.

Right. So, you know, it is restricting the water flow coming out of the back of a boat. And when you restrict it, it slows it down, just like filling two buckets of water.

Yeah. I mean, it's anything that even makes that water that that slows any of that water from being released from the boat down is slowing the whole boat down. And what's causing is putting a more of a load on your motor as well.

I mean, your motor's having to push through that.

SPEAKER_00

When your motor has to push through water, it loses RPMs.

SPEAKER_02

It does.

SPEAKER_00

And if you lose RPMs, you're losing inches per rotation. Yep. And that's where you lack of speed.

Yep. And then getting a slip down with clean water to the problem.

That's right.

SPEAKER_02

Once you do all that together, I mean it's just a happy setup.

Right, like if you don't have enough setback on your boat or enough counterweight on the back of your boat to pick up that graph, that trolling motor that goes along with the uh dead rise of that hull, which is very steep dead rise. It's one of the steepest dead rises in the industry. That's why it lifts so good and so clean. Um, you know, it has plenty of power to surface on top of the water, just let the balance do its job and let the prop do its job. But it that is a that is a setup that's been well worked over, you know, many. Many hours in that setup, but uh when it all comes together, it's it's it's a really stable, efficient. I mean, you you go through my my comments, man. There's all kinds of people hating on that thing, right? But what they don't know that that is the easiest boat to drive. It's easy.

If you take another boat that's not set up like that, um, you're pushing through the water, and when you push something through the water, you're fighting the steering wheel. Oh, yeah. A lot of people say that's not safe. That's safer than than a wet hull. You know?

For sure.

You can literally drive that boat so easy, it's it's crazy, and it would blow your mind how easy it is to drive. And uh, and you have a ballistic that runs 95.

And I I tell people they ask, like, well, how hard is it to drive at 95? And I'm like, it's just as easy to drive at 95 as it is to drive it at 65.

It is, because you don't have water pulling your hull to the port or starboard side. You're not fighting that steering wheel. And that's and that's how that's how that's how you wreck. That's how you you're not efficient at the wheel, you're not efficient at the hull, and you're not efficient on the prop. And and when none of that stuff is working together, you get poor performance on your boat. Just like duck boats. It's all it's all the same thing.

Super clean boat, super clean boat. In the background, we're testing a skeeter. Yep. You know, a ballistic kind of takes the that's kind of how I took the picture. But the the the goal that day was that skeeter. And that skeeter actually ran pretty good. I mean, the customer came in, he had a Yumhaul 250, unflashed. Um, he wanted more speed, a little bit more speed, but his biggest complaint was the slow hop.

Slow speed porpoise. That's anywhere from like 30 to 40 miles an hour in a skeeter. If you have one, you probably know, have experienced it. You have that slow porpoise. So you can't really just cruise in it. But what's causing a slow speed porpoise?

You know, what causes a slow speed porpoise is water coming off the bottom of the boat. The boat is deeper in the water because it has a surface, right? So your jackplate is actually lower in the water. When your jack plate is lower in the water, water will come up, water will come up and hit that jack plate and it will cause you to porpoise. It will cause you to porpoise. And the H22, uh the H22 gives you more room. It's just more clearance. Gives you more clearance that slow speeds and knock that that porpoise out. Then when you get on top end, it's completely cleaned up. If your boat, let's say, like if you have a heavy boat, I mean heavy, small, narrow boats that won't surface to water column to the top without a lot of horsepower. There's a lot of factors go in this. But the key is your boat has to surface the water column. Now, these heavier boats these days, these boats are loaded down with uh gear and loaded down with grafts and all in, you know, they're carrying 50 gallons of fuel, you know, under the seats and in the middle of the boat, which knocks off the balance point of the boat. That's why we say take out the AGMs, put lithiums in, put the counterweights on the transom, put the H-22 on there, let that boat surface, clean the water up, then that boat will tilt, and your speed's coming from prop efficiency, and it comes from drying out your hull in front of the fuel tank.

Front of the fuel tank. That's where we're picking it up. And we can pick up anywhere from 3.6 miles an hour just by putting an H-22 on, then we can go all the way up to 10 miles an hour. Because what happens is you can also pitch up, you can turn more RPMs, and your prop slip goes down.

If you're running a 23-pitch prop and you go from 12% slip to three, there you go, there's your speed. Yep. A lot of people don't see it.

Yeah, I mean, it just clean it the water cleaning up to your prop is the biggest deal when it comes to the speed part of it.

And I think a lot of people is not seeing that. They don't they're kind of forgetting that the prop slip calculator is really important.

I think they're not necessarily thinking about that. Maybe, maybe we just haven't explained it enough. But I know that the less prop slip you can get, the cleaner water you can get, the higher. The cleaner water, the higher. Because that's another thing, too, is the 22-degree bottom of the jack plate, the water that is higher up is cleaner. That's right, because it's not untouched. It's not dragging. So you can actually run higher with H22 and have less slip because it's actually clean water. So it's like a perfect storm that allows you to then adjust your prop and get the actual mile an hour gains.

Yeah. And you know, people's like, what's the difference? You know, constantly, constantly, constantly. We just got to explain because there's so many people out there. It's real repetitive because you know, it's like we just gotta tell everybody, you know, because I mean you would think that everybody would know by now, but there's still there's a lot of people there that just don't know.

Transom Angles And The TikTok Tilt

And um, you know, what makes the H22 so special is our transfers are 20 degrees. It matches the outboard range. So, you know, we the most important thing about a duckboat is that we want to bury the bow when we need to. Uh because we want to break ice, we want to jump stuff, you know. It's kind of like a turtle shell. If you had a flat turtle shell, it wouldn't be really strong, would it? So, you know, an oval turtle shell takes a lot more pressure because it's oval. So, I mean, you want a good deep throat. I mean, look at that falcon right there. You know why that boat has a throat? Because it takes rough water.

Yeah, I mean, right there, obviously I'm trimmed out, I'm on the plug, right? But if I if the water was rougher, I'd bump it down and I'd use the front of the boat to break the rough water.

To break the rough water. Once you break the water, your motor can go through it. Um now you wouldn't want to go through rough water and take an impact like that. That would be horrible in the rough water. Yes, because it would literally break your spine in half. Yes.

I mean, you're talking about hitting the the rollers and the waves with the bottom of the boat, not the not the deepest part of the V, which is up towards the front.

Yeah, so so so by not running wedges and by not running all the aftermarket stuff, I don't recommend that. I mean, if you're running wedges, there's a reason why you gotta run wedges, okay? Yeah now um you put everything on at 20 degrees like it should be from the factory, um, that's going to be your your best range of operation.

You'll have whole shot, you'll have whole shot and you'll have enough trim range to clean the boat up.

If your boat is balanced, if your boat is surfacing the water column, yes, correct. Yes, everything is perfect and it runs flawless. But the the the the 20-degree trans will put you down pressure on the bow, which is important. Because, you know, a lot of these boats, you know, they get really, really, really nose light and it makes it easy to tilt. But in a hunting situation, this is where the RDBST comes in. Is like, you know, the RDBST is packed in there with four-inch I beams, and and the whole purpose of that boat is like when you go duck hunting and the ice is over, right? You want to be able to hold your throat down to break the ice. Yeah. You do want you don't want a flat throat, you do not want an inverted throat, you want something that is exposed that will actually go to work.

Yeah, to put this like as a real-world example of this, if you have water right here and you slap it with your hand, you just slap the water. It stings. Now take your hand and crutch off the water. It's way less resistance in the water. I mean, it's the same thing with the boat. Yeah. Like you don't want, in this video, you got it up here, you don't want to hit rough water ice at that angle because it'd be like slapping your hand on the water. Yeah. You want to hit it with the front of that throat to break it up and slice through it.

I mean, I mean, just tell a guy in in a real world situation, just have a little contest. Pick you a person to belly flop ten times, then pick you a diver to do it ten times. I bet you the diver can dive ten more times. The belly flopper would be about done with the belly flopper ain't gonna last very long. So that's the difference between a boat with a throat and a boat without a throat. It yeah, it's cool, it's cool for 10 shots, but the 11th shot, it's okay, it's game over.

And you know, just to bring it back to the age 22 stuff, and it just allows you to have the full range.

You know, you can, you know, obviously water's not hitting the bottom. You can tilt up and you can get the nose and air like that if you want to, but you also have the ability to trim down.

Yeah, because nose down. For sure. This is a really good, I mean, this is a really good uh this picture was sent in from customer on the East Coast, and it's really a blurry picture, but it just shows you uh at his tilt angle. At his tilt angle, which is you know, look at the water coming around the back of the boat at his tilt angle. You can see the the the jack plate clearing, and that is in calm water. So if you use in rough water, it would you yeah, and it takes that much of tilt angle and that much of 22 degrees to get to get to working with a 20-degree transom to give you the down pressure of your trim and up pressure of the trim, you know, top end. So, I mean it it all works together. I you know, this is a really good, really, really good podcast. Uh, we've been traveling all over the country, uh, setting boats up and explaining this H22 system. And uh this is gonna be a really good podcast because it actually lets people see, okay, now I see why it's important for that clearance right there.

You know, again, you can visually see it.

It's perfect because it's obviously it's bright behind it, so you can see the the outline of the water and the jack plate. If that bottom of that jack plate was hanging down like like traditional jack plates have been in the past, and you hit some chop in the water, the inconsistency of the water hitting it would create the boat to be unstable. Yep. Because it's like, oh, you have a bunch of pressure, no pressure, bunch of pressure, no pressure, over and over, and it causes the boat to get out of shape. It it's fighting it when you're driving. Right.

It literally turns your hinge point from the back of your boat to your prop. It actually decreases your hinge point by by 10 inches. And when it when that water's hitting that jack plate, now you're trimming against your jack plate. Right. And when you trim against your jack plate, you over-trim, that's where your prop slip comes from. That's where a lack of speed. Like you see all over the internet, these guys doing a TikTok tilt. Yep. Right? Most of the time, that's at 40 miles an hour.

Then a then a Mach 1 or a marsh runner blows by at 73 miles an hour.

Okay, that's the difference. Prop efficiency and and the angle of water hitting a bottom of your boat. That's the that's the difference. I mean, our 1756 Marsh runners of 115s are running 73 miles an hour.

I mean, that you know, we just ran a uh we just ran a VJ at 52 with a 54 stroke. So I mean, efficiency on that end is big time.

It is. This is a good one right here. This is a customer that that went to the H22. And you're actually driving a boat, testing a boat. And the same thing. Uh this is a this is a really heavy haul. It rides good. You know, it's it's it's what today's bass boats are. You know, how can we make today's bass boats faster? And you can see uh by putting an H22 on, we relieve a lot of water pressure. So basically, if water's coming out, see, water's not necessarily clearing the back corners as good as what we wanted, but really, unless you put more horsepower on a boat, it's at a point where you would have to, it needs more power. It needs more power. Uh, we actually added counterweights to this particular brand and it didn't like it. And the reason why I didn't like it, because it's controlled by water pressure. That hole is controlled by water pressure. So when that boat is going through the water and that water is hitting the bottom of that boat, that water has to leave the bottom of that boat. Okay, so it needs to leave the bottom of that boat with less resistance possible. And when that boat gets tangled up, when that I mean when that water gets tangled up, when it hits an angle, when it hits a hook, or hits something different on the bottom of that boat that's not completely flat.

You change the flow of the water. And when you change the flow of the water, that's how that boat reacts. And you have to trim against that that that that change of flow, and that is where your prop slip comes from. So we took this boat. I believe this boat had an eight mile-nine increase somewhere in there. Yeah. Which was about all you're gonna get unless you flash this guy's motor. So I mean, this boat hit a wall there, and there's really nothing you can do about it. It's well in the 70s. The guy was completely happy, and it took away his mid-range hop.

You know, it took away his mid-range hop. And, you know, uh back in the day, you know, uh, you know, we had mid-range hops in the Marsh Runners. I remember that, you know, that, you know, that year where um the uh mid-range hops were about 35 miles an hour, you'd hop a little bit and you got pushed through it. You see it on the internet all the time, you got pushed through the hop, pushed through the hop. But if you'd slow down and ask yourself, well, what's causing that hop? You know, like there's something causing that hop. No, it's not a crappy boat. No, it's not a crappy motor, you know. But what is actually causing that hop, and think about it, and then fix that problem, you'll have a better, you know, you'll have better setup.

Absolutely. And it's, I mean, it's with any boat, any, don't matter what model it is, what brand, it doesn't matter. There's like three things that matter, and it's consistent. It's balance, right? Horsepower, and then it's prop.

Yeah. You know, and and talk about balance, we got counterweights now, but look, counterweights won't help your setup if you don't got enough power to get the boat to surface. Right. So there's there's a fine line, and we do have counterweights, guys, but there is a fine line of using counterweights more than 77 pounds or 80 pounds on your transom. So you still have to match horsepower. That boat has to surface. It's like a it's like a fat dude on a ski. Okay, like if you got a 450-pound skier, you gotta have a lot of horsepower or a short rope. Right? So if you have a long rope and a weaky, you know, a weak motor pulling a 450-pound skier, he's not gonna be very efficient. Right. You know, you might have to pull the guy 70 miles an hour to get him to the surface.

Okay, so boats are the same way. The boats have to surface to water column. And once they surface, clear water pressure, at that point you can use the 20-degree trim of the motor and you can tilt that boat and you'll pick up your speed from prop efficiency and drying out the hull.

It's on the lighter side of the boat of most boats, but the recessed pad is not as deep. So it gives you more lift. But the weight is the weight of the hole goes hand in hand with that. So if you have a really heavy, heavy, heavy boat, you can't go with a shallow pad.

If you can lift the stern out of the water, which is a lot of the problems in the basketball industry today, is that the sterns aren't coming out because you can kind of see how deep the stern is, you know. Now, a lot of people's gonna watch this video and talk shit about it because it's not a bullet or an allison or some shit like that, but the dead rides are completely different. You can't compare apples to apples, you know what I mean? Um, apples to oranges, I guess. But, you know, you can you can see that boat right there is not completely lifting out of the stern. You know, the stern's not completely lifting. If the stern would completely lift out of the water, then then you'll be able to uh you'd be able to run that boat with less impact on the bottom of the hull. It's just not going to do it because it just it's it's a it's a heavy fishing boat.

Rough Water Control And Running The Nose

We wanted to test the H22 in some rough water. And but uh tell me what you've noticed, and I'll tell you what I've noticed in my boat. Because we both have ballistics there. As far as like the rough water goes, rough water and speed and like staying on top of it.

Staying on top of the water. I mean, you're able to definitely you're able to stay on top of it and basically control the nose too to a degree to where you can throw it, you can throw it up and down depending on on the water.

You're able to micro adjust it out there and achieve like the smoothest. Because like when we first got out there and we first took off in it, dude, I was like back broke. I know. I was trying to figure out like what am I supposed to do to this, you know? So I started playing with the jack plate and get it to that happy spot where dude, I'm just eating through them right on top of them. Right.

You know, you know, that that's what's really important about boats and their throats. Um, we had a customer send us a video of his MSTC going through some stuff like that, and it was wild. But he was burying the nose and he and it was pushing water away from the boat, and that's what keeps boats from not tearing up. Yeah. It's completely opposite of what people think. You know, you can see that throat in that boat right there. I mean, he can lay that boat down and eat through some waves, and it actually saves your boat, you know. But you know, the ballistic, it will lay down. You can actually hold the nose down and you could drive. Through the waves, the bile pushes water out, and you just go through them, and it's actually a better ride. It's a better ride. So butch with throats are actually a good riding boat. You know, that's me playing around on the lake. Uh EMT is a badass. You guys ain't got your motors flashed. I highly recommend looking at EMT. They do a great job. Yeah, I mean, this is probably one of our larger dealers. I mean, he does such a good job. I mean, look at his organization there. Yeah, it's pretty notch. He does a really good job. We were there, it was raining, and like I think he sold like six boats in the rain. And he does such a good job because he just has so much inventory there. All the boats are ready to rock, and uh customers come in, come out. Turnkey in an hour. Yeah, it's so such they have such a good team up there, and they just roll them things out, you know. Good customer service. You look on the front of the store, and they all got the personal cell phone numbers on the front of the store, which is which tells me that they they don't care what time it is at night. They don't care. Yeah, they're they're just taking care of business. Yeah, they're taking care of business, they're taking care of the customers, and they got plenty of product to choose from, and they're just all around some really good folks. And I want to I want to talk about one thing you mentioned earlier. What's that? About how you recommend people pull leaving the pins in. Yep. The reason he's saying that is on a lot of these four strokes, lower units are are big, bulky, yeah, and you don't got a lot of power on the motors, right? So what he's talking about is if you pull the pins, what happens is then it becomes a breakaway, right? You've seen where you know how like you could reverse real hard and it would kick go ahead and kick up. Well, he's saying leave the pins in, that way it's locked in and it holds that lower unit in the same spot without wiggling back and forth. Because the four strokes are bulky on the on the lower side and don't have as much horsepower. Well, the good thing about the HB22 is you're able to actually tent put tension on how much pressure it takes for this to actually break away. I mean, I know you can probably see it right there. See how it's slotted through here? Well, you can actually tighten it. Yeah, you can tighten that.

Yeah, and and Bob's does a good job on all their jack plates, but you know, you know, you know, that's definitely a nice feature, you know.

Oh yeah, and this HB22 is like a 77-pound jack plate.

Yeah, well, so so so what an HB22 is is basically an extreme, their heaviest. I mean, the material is so thick on it. It's it's basically their heaviest material jack plate built into a breakaway. I mean, it's it's super tough. I mean, you can put a 250 on that thing. Yeah, I mean it's rated for it. Yeah, I mean, uh, or 300 or 400, I think it's rated for 500, I think. I'd be wrong. It's rated way up in. You know, you guys can fact check me though, but you know, it's definitely up in the 500s, I think, horsepower rating. Um, it's super thick, it's super heavy, it weighs just as much as our 10-inch HB22. Uh, so it gives you a nice uh counterweight. Um what's neat, what's neat about it is it's a seven inch.

It's a seven inch. So it's not like your typical six-inch breakaway that you see everywhere. This is a seven inches. So not only do you have an extra inch of leverage for your motor, but it's also the thick, heavy material, so it's a heavy seven inches.

But the uh, you know, the balance of that jack plate, and the reason why we went to seven inches is because we need one more inch of leverage, right? Yeah. So, you know, one inch of leverage on on a standard four-stroke weight.

one. You know, I got a 335 P Skid Steer. I love the Skid Steer. It's like 117 horsepower, a lot of hydraulic flow, 45 gallons per minute. I mean, that thing will cut, grind, do whatever you want to. And I also got the little track suspension thing they came out with, which is really nice, especially if you got a little belly. But so, you know, if you look at a skid steer, okay, and you're using a skid steer, that skid steer is balanced in the center of the skid steer based off of the load capacity of the bucket. Right? Right. So if they put a big material bucket on there, then they add counterweights on the back of the skid steer. Okay. Now, can you run the skid steer without counterweights? You absolutely can run the skid steer without counterweights. But if you do, you're not gonna work as efficient.

It's three miles an hour, 3.6. Uh, but he said, man, it's still not getting quite as fast as I wanted to. It's kind of hard to drive. I said, take off your power poles. Brackets.

The the instability that the power poles actually give you, I can not only cut into the air, right? But like if they're if if the brackets aren't mounted high enough in the water too, you're talking about water pressure, air pressure, two different things working against each other.

But what we will do is raise those power pole brackets or those minkota brackets up as high as you can on the jack plate to get that water clearance off of that because it will knock you off pad.

You gotta get them high as possible, high as possible, or they will knock you off pad. And I'm gonna tell you something, it is a huge difference running a boat without them and with them.

Oh, yeah. I mean, you'll be running down the water, and if you're you're like brackets or dragging, it'll you'll feel your back end of your boat scoot around.

Yeah, it literally knocks you off pad. Yeah. And you're constantly fighting it. And and and I tell people, boats are like transmissions, man. You can't start in fifth gear. You gotta start one, two, three, four, five. And and you gotta work up the wide wide open throttle to maintain top end speed. You know, so if you can't get there safely and you know, stable, you can't get there, then you'll never really understand what your boat's fully capable of doing.

Your brackets, if you were at 100%, your brackets may be cleaned up, but they'll never get to 100% because they they're not cleaned up at 70%.

And I and I I'm telling you, man, I'm telling you to I get people all the time message me, my my jackplay's cleaned up. My jackplace cleaned up, my jackplay's cleaned up. I'm like, no, it's not. It appears to be cleaned up, but it's not cleaned up when you go in a turn. It's not cleaned up when you get rough water, it's not cleaned up when you take off on water, take off in the whole shot. Why do you why do whole shots get better with H22? Because they have less water resistance. Okay, so from zero to let's say your whole shot takes six seconds, okay? Before it took you six seconds. With a whole shot now, you you make it do it in three seconds. Why? Because there's less resistance on the whole shot. You're having to pull less water as you build up, as you build speed up, as your whole surface of water, your hole gets out of the water faster.

Yes. Yes. So this is this is an example of how the H twenty two works. This is another great Yeah, this is an icon, right? This is an icon, which is a battleship. L X twenty one. Yes. That's Daryl Moore driving that boat. Now look at that thing. How how in the world did we Turn that icon running on this plug like that. And uh it took counterweight. So, you know, the balance point of that boat is about where Daryl's sitting, you know, naturally. So what we did, we manipulated it by adding a stainless steel counterweight to the transom, put an H2210 on there, and we took the AGMs out of the boat and replaced it with lithiums. So what we did basically we we shifted the balance point of that boat further back, allowed the hole to naturally lift with water pressure based off of the horsepower. And balance. And balance. We actually had to take the wedges off. If we if you remember, we started with five degree wedges, yeah, more positive trim. So, you know, you go to these dealers, and this is really cracks me up. You go to these dealers, right, and they say, Oh, your boat's not running fast. You need to add five degree wedges. Just trim it more. Why do you have to add five degree wedges to your boat to over-trim to get the nodes up to go faster? Why?

And 90% of the time, all you're doing is increasing prop slip.

But this is a prime example of manipulating that setup to get the performance we wanted. And it took the H22 to do it.

Lithium Batteries And Shifting Weight Back

Like and and really the the size of that battery is tiny. I mean, for like duck boat applications, people that are getting in the backwaters with some of these duck boats, a little battery like that's perfect.

Yeah, they got a little they got a little lithium starting battery that's bad to the bone. So you take uh so basically what we did, we took a normal AGM load in a bass boat, we deducted the the the weights from the lithium to the um AGMs. It's around 140 pounds, right? So we took the 140 pounds, built it into a plate, put it behind the transom. So we just shifted the weight. And it it really makes a big difference on these big heavy bass boats. It does. Yeah, get rid of your AGMs. It also improves your hull shot. It does. You take weight out of the boat. Reason why it's important to take weight out of the boat to improve a hole shot is because that boat has to go through the water, right? Yeah.

So and what you're doing with all the weight in the very, very, very back of the boat is like you're having to like move it to get up on board.

You're actually getting on pad with horsepower, but when you move the weight out of the boat, shift it behind the boat, right? Then you're actually building water pressure on the bottom of your hull. Your hole is actually lifting out of the water.

Um, there's plenty of there's four inches of insulation in the floor with our four-inch eye beams. Full flotation. I know um a lot of guys don't understand the vibration of the boat and what the vibration does to a boat, but you can see Beast Guys driving that boat right there. He's not bouncing all over the place, right? So the ride is good. And you see the water right there? I mean, it's not it's like he's actually riding in a boat that has shocks versus a boat that doesn't have any suspension.

Water's coming out straight out the back. I mean, sufficient, it's clean.

The impact of that boat, the impact of that boat, that water's just right there in his butt, maybe a little bit behind his butt, just a little bit, and he's just not feeling that impact. And you're gonna get that from the uh Marsh Runners, the Mach 1s, the RDBs, uh, stuff like that. That's actually designed for that. Um, you know, I think we built that hole, what, eight, eight, nine years ago? It was a long time ago. That was a long time ago. And so, what makes this boat special? What makes this boat special? It has a performance box in there. So I think a lot of guys don't understand what that does. Basically, the bounce point of the boat's not going to shift ever, no matter what it is. You have a four-stroke, you got what you got. And when that boat tilts, that part of that boat box isn't digging in the water.

And that's a fast lift angle right there. Yes, that that's a very fast lift angle. Now, if you had the box there, you may would get a little bit more lift angle. But the problem is the ride is terrible.

That well, not only the ride, but you would be then dragging that part of the boat that's missing in this would be actually underneath the water, causing pressure, which you might would lift more, like you said. Yes. But if you're having to go through water, which you are, yeah, it'd be slower.

There is boats on the internet that get a lot of lift angle. And the problem with a lot of lift angle is that you have to, if you get a lot of lift angle, something's taking a beating on your boat. Okay, you're dragging something, you're pressurizing something. When you pressurize your hole like that, you're just slow. And if you force it, you'll child won't get out of control. It's just like these bass boats, man. Like if a boat is designed around pressure, uh, if you force that particular boat, something has to give. Stability has to give, something has to give, something's gonna hook up, and it's not gonna be pretty.

Um, this boat is running with less water water pressure, and it's running more about balance, horsepower, and efficiency. It's an efficient haul. This this boat this this boat right here, it's running in the uh, I mean, low 50s. Low 50s. And no, it's a marsh runner, it's ready for a 60 horse. Um, it's just a super cleaning boat. Easy to drive. You can see him right there. He's not fighting nothing, no tiller torque. You got clean water off the back of the boat, it's not touching the jack plate, you got a good tilt angle, you're going through that chop, you know, he's not bouncing all over the place. And also, too, um, I want to tell people that this right here, if you're running your boat and you got good tilt angle like that, and you cut your throttle, if your nose just slaps the water really hard, then you're holding your nose up with horsepower. More than likely, if you're that guy right now that you could slap the water really hard when you cut the power and the boat darts left or right, uh, that means you're you're forcing your bowel up with your prop, you're holding water pressure on your prop blades, and I guarantee you, you do not have the RPMs and you're not running as fast as you could be.

It just glides to a stop. And that's that's the difference. Like when your boat is perfectly balanced, it just glides to a stop. It doesn't slap the water, it's very controllable. And not only that, you could take that boat right there and actually run through rollers and waves and have more stability because everything is balanced. Yeah, it makes a huge difference.

And I hope a lot of this is making sense. I know we're going over certain things a whole bunch repetitive as we go through his videos and his photos and stuff, but it's like that's the basics of what makes a boat work. You know, it's the same thing no matter what boat you got, no matter if it's bass boat, duck boat, or whatever, the the common variable is you're on water. You have a prop. Hey, leave it here. Well, okay, so this is a 2026 VJ. Okay, now you know if people like ah VJs, VJs, VJs. VJ's is a really nice boat. And what's nice about 2026 VJ, because it doesn't have a lot of dead rice, right? But back in the day when we built edges and all these other boats, they did the same thing. But back in the day, we did it with 10-inch magnum jack plates on the shallow transom, like less angled transom. But there was downfalls of that. Like, you know, you know, if you mount the stuff on on different uh transom angles, you have to have wedges. So you give up one or the other. Uh back and you're mounting them low. And you're mounting them low because you're actually putting the boat in a bind to build pressure at the stern to lift the boat. So when you're mounting the motor low, you have um seven or eight or nine inches below the the pad. Yeah, and you're just digging it in. If you guys go measure your your your pad, your your prop distance below your pad, you're gonna be surprised because basically what you're doing is you're actually putting that boat in a bind on the hinge of the boat. So you got the transom and you got your motor. When when those two fold up like this, you know, you got your boat, it lifts up, and you got your motor, you're lifting up, you're causing this hinge right here. This is your jack plate. Motor boat. This is your hinge. So you hinge this up, and this is how your boats are running through the water. So the problem is it just it just puts a ton of pressure on the bottom of the boat. This is this is a 2026-80 degree uh VJ when they're set up correctly with the weight on the back of the boat. This is how they run. You know, but you need the counterweight, the hinge is there, the hinge is flat, okay? And you have a tilt angle based off of the dead drives of the hull. And that is going to reduce pressure to the bottom of the hull. That's the difference of a boat tearing apart or staying together.

And it doesn't, it doesn't matter what it is. Because he is just coasting on the water.

So And a lot of people don't know that. Still to this day. I mean, like, and that's that's why we're so over and over and over and over what we say. It's because all the time new people are coming into it and asking the same questions that somebody might have asked yesterday, the day before.

This is not safe. You do not do this on the water, you do not blow by somebody just to show off. Do not do none of this stuff where you kill switch, where your life fest. But yes, we are. This is what we do for a living.

Because well, all right, so when we when we film this video, right, obviously we're gonna we're gonna go back and we watch it. We watch it over and over and over. We look at the angle, we look at the water, we look at the stuff coming off the back of the boat, where's the motor at? And we make adjustments. We figure out what this boat is doing and why.

So what I'm seeing right here in this boat, what I don't like about this boat is the angle of the spray coming off the back of the boat.

Right, it's coming more out 45 from the boat.

So that tells me that the hull is digging.

You know, something is grabbing, redirecting water instead of releasing it off the back, it's redirecting it out.

If you can get that spray curve to tighten up a little bit to the back of the boat, you know, you'd pick up three or four miles an hour.

Because what would happen is if that spray coming out the side of the boat came out the back of the boat, that would mean the V of the boat would have lifted up out of the water in the back.

So you'd have more stern lift. So what causes the boat not to lift? It's either deadrise or weight or lack of horsepower.

Yep. Or it's something stopping the flow of water on the hole itself.

Hooks, manufactured hooks, manufactured welds. You know, there are a lot of times when we'll put we'll put welds on our boats. Uh MSTC got welds. Uh the reason why we put welds on our transoms is because the prop is at the surface of the water column and it pushes straight, right? So when it pushes straight, you know There's nothing to leverage the boat. And control the boat. Yes. So you have to have something to back there to balance that thing. And we do it by water pressure. So if you see, you see hooks, turn downs, turndowns is a form of water pressure, hooks or uh uh hooks, manufactured hooks, or welds, or different levels of pad. So you got lifting rakes, you got pad, you know, pad heights, and that kind of thing. Uh that those are all forms of of controlling a boat based off of water pressure. When I say water pressure, I mean what a boat runs over and what comes out the back of the boat. What you know, I tell people all the time, what you run over has to come out efficiently.

And if it doesn't, you're losing speed.

Because, yeah, I mean, the faster your boat goes, it needs to release the water just as fast.

This is a good video. This thing, this thing got a lot of a lot of attention. And it's the icon, I believe it's you running it there. Um, you can see he has his hand out the side of the bat. Yeah, it's walking a little bit. It's freed up. I mean, it's it's it's freeing up about as much as it's going to free up. Yeah. Um, the reason why a boat walks is because it's releasing the water pressure on the ends of the boat.

So it's it's actually bouncing. And earlier I said it's inconsistent. Water pressure, if you do have something dragging, is going to be inconsistent because it loads up, releases, loads up, releases, and it causes it to bounce.

Or something dragging off the back of the boat, maybe the power pose or anchors or yeah. I keep saying power pose, guys. Listen, power pose, I love power pose. I use power pose because I think all anchors are power pose, okay? So um, you know, it doesn't matter they are. It doesn't matter how what anchor system you're running off the back of the boats. Um, if those things are too low, you see that water spray, that that will make your boat channel off. And I will say those are too low. I would say they're too low. Yeah, I think we eventually took them off.

So the further they are off the boat, the higher they gotta be. So the closer they are to the boat, they can actually be lower because as water comes under the boat and uh you know around the boat, it pressurizes just like you holding your thumb on a faucet, and then it shoots up. That's how you get the, you know, that's how you get that water at that angle coming off the back of the boat. Because it's been pressurized by the weight of the boat.

And you can also see your ruch your tail too. I wish we had a picture of a fine rucher tail. There's a there's a difference. You want a long, tight rucher tail, not much further higher than Calendar motor.

A lot of it is probably, you know, just because the the jack plate, nothing is is is disturbing the water. It's I mean, it's getting pure water. But you what is the color of that water? Yeah, but you but you can see on the side there, see that really dark line of water right there?

That's that's the pad. That's where the boat has a lot of pressure right there. So that tells you that the boat's still heavy and it's it's digging in the water, and it's you know you're losing speed off of that.

Uh so you see the really dark line on both sides. That's where the most of the pressure of that hole is right there. Yeah. Um so that that could get approved. I mean, you could improve that.

Yeah, I love seeing the rooster tails that are low, tight, yeah, and and long, but low. That's what you want. You don't ever want an arc. I mean, you want to you want a powerful, tight, low rooster tail.

You're getting all of your prop there. You're getting all of your prop. You got a low pro uh uh prop slip, uh, your your prop's doing its thing, and it's just great. Uh it's definitely great. There's a there's a giant boat running with a jack plate or something, I don't know. Yeah. But that's uh that's good stuff. That's all that's all we need on that page right there. But that that just shows you the quality of the jack plates and uh Well, there's just so much to it.

You know, if you want to perfectly set your boat up, there's steps to it. And obviously, I think it starts with the with the jack plate, getting your balance point right. And then once you get your balance point right, now you have options when it comes to the prop. You know, instead of just finding the prop that makes your boat run good, you're finding the prop that makes your boat run the fastest.

That's right. So the prop's always the last thing you want to worry about. I always tell people all the time, I said it's like building a house. You start with the foundation and you build up, you don't build roof down. You know, and the boats are just like that. And I hope all this is making making sense.

20 Degrees Versus 22 Degrees Demo

So explain this while I'm holding it, what this is.

So that's basically a 20-degree angle. Right? So this would be the bottom of the boat, and this would be the transom. Okay? So this is our transom angle. The bottom of the jack plate is actually 22 degrees. So when that 22 degrees bolts to this 20 degree angle here, that's the 22 degrees. See guys? See, so this is a boat sitting flat. This is a transom angle. And H22 is going to be mounted to the transom like this. Just two more degrees than our transom. So what that does, I'm gonna hold this still beast, Scott. Tilt tilt it for the tilt angle. Do the TikTok tilt. See how it tilts? See how the boat's tilting? And this will move down with it. Okay? Now, if this was a standard jack plate or a longer jack plate, because we got long jack plates in the industry, they will not work good. They will work if you overpower everything. But when this when this 20 degrees tilts, as he tilts, it gets lower and lower to the water. See? Now if it was a standard, all right, we go back flat again. Now if it was a standard jack plate, let's say it was not to 22 degrees, okay? It would mount to your transome like this already. So the 10 inch jack plate gives you leverage weight, right? It gives you leverage weight. Why do you need 10 inches? Clean water and leverage weight. So that's straight. So as you tilt, that goes down. Water comes off the bottom of the boat, it grabs the tip of this jack plate, then you trim against it, and that's where you get your prop slit from. Your inefficiency of speed.

So that's our twenty two right there.

That's 22 degrees. And you tilt, it's flat.

It's less of a harsh angle.

Well, this is a lot of tilt.

That's a lot of tilt, but you can see how the jack plate will affect it. And that's that's the whole key to all this, right? So that's the key to assess. But why do you have to have 10 inches? So 10 inches gives you leverage weight on your boat, okay? Because if you got 10 inches, you got more leverage weight, you go two inches, less leverage weight, right? So one inch, one inch take on a 15-foot boat, one inch will is roughly around 10 to 12 pounds off your bowel. Okay. So if you take a 50 horse, if you take a 50 horse four-stroke motor, you throw it on the transom, you know, that's like adding, you know, that's like adding 100 pounds to your bowel. Does that make sense? Because it's almost like a seesaw effect, right? So if you put the motor on your transom, it's it's it's it's roughly 10 pounds per inch. 10 to 12. I mean, I measured it all out many, many, many ways, but um it's it's it's roughly uh around 10 to 12 pounds per inch. So that's why you have 10 inches, eight inches, four inches, whatever. Now let's say depending on what motor you have, let's say weight-wise. Yeah, depending on your motor weight. So so if you have a 50 horse mercury, you know, then you go to like everybody on, you know, basically they got like these 90s on 15s and stuff, it's crazy. But you know, that's obviously a heavier block. So if you put that on 10 inches, that's a lot of leverage. It would change the balance point quite a bit. Quite a bit. That means you could probably put a lot more stuff up front. You can run grass, trolling motors, you can go with an 18-foot boat, 17-foot boat. So this is how all this works together, okay? So, like, you know, you got a two-stroke, a 59-cubic inch two-stroke that's built to the gills, right? Got a lot of horsepower. That's what's really nice. Super light motor, a lot of horsepower. Yeah, you can go a little closer, you can bypass all that because you got all this power, it's not that heavy. So the boat surfaces, the stern surfaces are really good, just got all that power. Um, they love it, they run great. But when you get a four-stroke, you don't have all that power. But you have more weight, which is like a double. So you gotta kind of move that weight back, kind of help the boat lift. And it's just it's just a it's just a magical combination of weight and balance and horsepower. And that's what we're focused on. We're focused on the four-stroke technology, the four-stroke motorweights, the what people buy, what people finance, you know, like you know, you have to build something that people can get their hands on. There's tons and tons of four-strokes out there. Um, you know, and that's that's this is this is a prime example right here. They pulled it up here. So you got 90 show, and you got an H2210 on there, okay? That motorweight combination is enough weight to pick that boat up. You know, obviously, if you put a 150 on it, it's gonna really haul ass.

And the boat's gonna surface better, it's gonna run out better. But, you know, the less now, if you put a 60 on it, it's gonna run like crap. Need more. You need more leverage weight if you have enough power to turn it.

So there's a fine line. So if you pile the weight on the stern and your motor don't have enough power to surface the boat, it's not gonna help you. So you can take an old VJ, you can take an old edge, you can take whatever you want to. It doesn't matter. You can take all that stuff, and if you get it balanced right, you'll run. But there is a fine line of too much weight and not enough power.
