Mariama (00:02.126) You deserve to have the life that you desire. Your passions are a part of you for a reason. And when you don't follow your passions or listen to your call, things can get rough. You don't have to take some massive intimidating leap. One small step each day leads to lasting change. So let's get started by accepting our passions are here in the first place, because this is Life Activated. I'm your host and guide, Mariama, here to help you recenter life on your passions and purpose.

so you can feel good inside because you deserve it.

Mariama (00:42.168) Today I have, honestly, one of my favorite people on the podcast. This episode came to be because this amazing human, who is the podcast storytelling pitch advisor, dare I say, she's the best in the world to all who realize it.

I have Chelsea Riffe on the show with me. And again, the reason that this has been happening is because Chelsea helped me carve out this season that we're recording and actually the next season that I'm gonna get my butt together and record. I literally couldn't do it without her. If you are looking for someone, I'm just plugging you already. If you're really looking for someone who can help you pull out the best of your stories and put it in a way.

that not only you feel comfortable sharing, in a way that people will, I believe, receive it. Chelsea is your person. Hello, Chelsea. Thank you for being here.

Hello, thank you for having me. I'm so, so excited for this conversation.

So this episode came to be because, like I said, Chelsea's been helping me. And this was before I really dove deep into the Matrix of Destiny. But we started talking about the Matrix of Destiny. We started talking about certain numbers that show up in our chart. And we realized that we had these synchronicities in terms of how this mysterious particular number that I have not shared yet shows up.

Mariama (02:24.866) And it is a life path number 10, which is all about luck and fortune. And we thought we should come together and talk about how these numbers in real life show up in our lives, how they don't just show up and magic up on their own, but we also have to be active participants in the way that we navigate and move through life. So.

we thought we just gotta start talking about all the great things. What I wanna start with is sharing a little bit about the number a little bit more, which is number 10, and it's luck and fortune, essentially. It's called luck, fortuna. And it depends on where it shows up in your chart, but essentially it means that you have sparkly magic gold dust. And that with life synchronous, if you're paying attention,

to the synchronicities in life, you will receive the different luck and fortune that comes. And that doesn't mean financial luck and fortune, and we'll talk a little bit more about that. Before I go any further, Chelsea, do you have anything you want to add to that? Am I missing anything from how this came to be?

No, I think you got that all right. Like we were just talking about it because we had so much in common around this number with luck and fortune showing up. So I know we'll get into that in a second. And I think I'm excited to also explore what I would call almost like a shadow side of this number too. So I'm excited to get into that.

Yes, because there is a shadow side. That's the one thing that you learn with Matrix of Destiny is that there is a light, a plus side, and there is a shadow side. And it is a reminder that the shadow does exist within us, I think. And it's helpful to notice when we are in alignment or when we are not in alignment, because when we're in alignment, things can flow a lot more simply.

Mariama (04:27.742) easily for us and when we're not in alignment, you know, things can be a little bit more challenging. So I'll kick it off with the story that sort of started this whole conversation in the first place, which was how my house came to be sold and the luck around that. And as most of you may know by now, I am recently divorced. And when my now ex John and I were looking to sell our house,

We lived in the Pacific Northwest. The houses in our community were the community that a lot of people wanted to live in. Houses sold like hotcakes. At the time that we were selling our house, the houses were selling between a million and like a million fifteen. I know that's a very specific number, but I did go on Zillow and look.

just to make sure that I didn't overstate how much the houses are in that area. And we were not worried about selling the house. We knew it was gonna sell. It was gonna be easy. We had the literal best realtor out there. If you live in the Pacific Northwest, you know that you have to also stage your house to sell your house. Not in every region do you have to do this, but there you do. So this realtor handles everything. She stages your house and...

She puts it on the market and she is very competitive. She wants to make sure you're getting everything, best, you know, she's wanting to make sure you get tons of authors, the best offers, all those things. So you can imagine when we were surprised that we put the house on the market, we go for the kickoff, which is a four day open house stent essentially. And we got no offers. It was crickets. And we were like, okay, what have we done wrong?

going on. That led me to probably like, I'd say like later that week, realizing that I didn't talk to the house. I didn't actually have a conversation with the house to let the house know that we were moving on. And I really do feel strongly that our homes have energy. Everything has energy. And something I didn't tell you, Chelsea, is before we bought the house,

Mariama (06:49.614) I realized that that house was also calling me there because when the house was posted, I saw the house on the listing that our realtor sent us over and over again, but I ignored it because I thought it was too far out, which by the way, it wasn't too far out at all. It was low. was not far at all. And I had always had in my head that I would have a sign, which was a symbol that I knew that would tell us that this was the house for us to buy.

And we went to many houses where we were getting outsold and outbidded, all the things. Went to that house finally, which was a new build house, which was no haggling with money. If you know anything about the market right now, if you're buying a new build, the price is the price. If you're buying something that's already been on the market, there is bidding, haggling, it's all things. So go to that house and the symbol was there. So I knew we were buying that house.

It was the last house in our price point that we could afford.

synchronicities already?

I know, I can't believe I forgot that part of the story. So now fast forward, it's time, seven years later, it's time to sell the house and it hasn't sold. I finally realized I didn't actually tell the house that life is changing, we're moving on. So I found the part of the house that felt to me like the heart of the home, where the house wanted me to communicate with her. And I shared with her that John and I were getting divorced.

Mariama (08:23.446) it was time to move on and it was time to call in the new family or the new owners. I'd say, think it was like two weeks later is when we put the house on for another open house. A one day open house that was two hours. We had people showing up even after the open house was over. We had multiple visitors from, so it was a Sunday that we did it. We had visitors come back on Monday and on Tuesday.

And then we had a cash offer with earnest money because they were so serious that they wanted us to know that they were serious about buying the house. And we got everything we were asking for.

That is so crazy.

It's super crazy. And I think what it helped me realize was one, yes, you we talk about like this whole concept of being truly lucky and understanding, but also it's not just sitting there and doing nothing. It was having this conversation with the essence of the home and letting the home know that it was time for the shift to occur. But also like,

being in, like this is part of this piece is also being in deep trust that everything is going to happen.

Chelsea (09:44.59) Yes, that's what I was going to say is like, you almost knew that that was the answer. Like, oh, duh, I need to talk to the house and get his energy aligned. And then it's almost going to be a no brainer decision that I'm curious if that's how you felt like, oh, that's the obvious thing. We need to talk to the house. Or did you still feel that weird? Like, oh, I don't know what's going to happen. Or you just kind of knew like, I know this was something I talked about.

I just knew. And what's interesting is I had never done this before to another house in the same way. I have definitely experienced selling other properties and knowing that it was going to sell for what I had put it up for and trusting the process. But I've never had a home that also specifically really called me in the way that this home did. realizing, and part of this is probably because I also

didn't know I was psychic and didn't have that connection. And when I was living in this house, I did have that connection and realization that I knew there was that missing element.

Yeah, it's like the ingredient when you're baking something, you're like, oh, what is this one thing I forgot? And then you're like, oh, duh. And then you just go back and bake it it's perfect. You don't need to question, oh, was that the missing ingredient or was it the other one or should I add something new? It's like, no, there is one thing that just makes the recipe. And for you, it was talking to the house, which is insane.

Yeah, yeah. And so now, because this is the story that I shared with you when we were putting the podcast together, and again, we were geeking out over Matrix of Destiny and the number 10, I would love to hear from you when this has shown up in your life, especially being this world traveler who really does, you when I watch you and watch your stories and just know about what's happening in your life.

Mariama (11:40.268) I feel like even the places you end up going to are very much led by a deep sense of trust and faith.

100%. It shows up so much in traveling that I almost feel like that is what has given me the confidence to keep traveling, especially as a solo female traveler. I don't have a partner. I don't travel with friends. I don't travel with family. Like, I'm always by myself. And I go to places that are stereotypically dangerous. Like, people will say, can't believe you're traveling to Peru, or I can't believe you live in Cape Town, or isn't it super dangerous in Colombia?

I don't know, I just have this deep sense of self-trust that it's going to work out, like I wouldn't put myself in a situation to be hurt or in danger. And what I will say is because I have so much evidence of it working out, that is something that I've been able to acquire while I've been traveling is this almost like playbook of how to do it. And I think a lot of it does come from this matrix of destiny number 10, know, kind of everything you touch turns to gold or everything turns out in your favor.

And I noticed this when I first started traveling. was way before I started the digital nomad journey. And I was traveling with a friend through Europe. I forget what happened. She like didn't check in correctly and had to go through all these extra steps to check in and check her bag. She was throwing a hissy fit. I mean, she was yelling at the guy at the counter saying, this is ridiculous. I can't believe this happened. Like all this stuff was happening. Basically anything that could go wrong was going wrong with her situation. We were on the exact same flight going to the exact same place.

nothing happened with me. I could check my bag for free. I got a window seat. I got an upgrade. I got all these things. But I wasn't yelling at the guy and I wasn't freaking out and throwing a fit. And so I chalked up that experience to just being, that was just because I was kind and calm and things went my way just because of how I was showing up energetically where I feel like she was attracting a lot of chaos. So I didn't really clock it at the moment, but then we traveled again years later.

Chelsea (13:44.064) And something similar happened again where I got another like window seat without even booking it, which I love the window seat. I got to check a second bag for free. got to do all these things. And then someone pointed out, they're like, you're really lucky when you travel. Like you always get the upgrades. You always get the check bag. always get, and I was like, huh, I never really clocked that before. So after someone said something to me, then I started taking note of when I was traveling. And now I'm not kidding. Almost every single time I traveled.

I get to check a bag for free, even though it's not included in my ticket. I get a whole row to myself. I get a window seat without choosing it. I will actually say I haven't picked a seat. You know how you pick it and you pay for it. I have only done that once or twice in the last five years of traveling and I've probably taken literally 75 flights. So out of all those 75 flights, without me even choosing a seat, I've gotten to always have a window seat, sometimes even exit row, which is perfect because I'm tall.

So I think that's where it shows up the most is traveling. And then even recently, I just flew back to Lima after the holidays. And I remember thinking I have so much stuff from home and they're gonna either make me check my bag and it's gonna cost a lot, or they're gonna just charge me extra luggage fees because I didn't check this bag upfront. Well, I get to the gate and the guy's like, hey, the flight is full. So we're just offering people check bags for free. If you wanna go ahead and check your bag.

And by the way, like you could even check a second bag if you want, just cause the flight is so full. I was like, are you serious? So I got to bring all this extra stuff from home. I didn't have to pay a dime to check my bags. got to sit, actually I couldn't upgrade the seat, but on the way home, got a, I was supposed to be in an aisle seat and I got a window seat instead. And there was no one in the middle of us. So I got, we both had like this extra seat in the middle. This happens all the time. And I was talking about this on a date once and this is a first date. And the guy said that he was like,

He's like, you seem really lucky. Like, have you ever clocked that? And I remember being like, it's interesting that he picked that up out of the stories I was telling. And then it made me kind of go through my Rolodex of memories and say like, what, when else has this happened? So yes, it happens all the time with traveling. And that's why I feel so confident in not only the actual physical act of traveling, but choosing places. Like I just trust that it's going to work out or something lucky will happen. But it also showed up when I was in Cape Town.

Chelsea (16:07.062) So I remember I got this amazing Airbnb. Also, that was crazy. It was last minute, super affordable, had a balcony, looked over the ocean, two blocks away from my favorite Pilates studios. I remember being like, I think this guy messed up. I think this is on my Airbnb. Like it's the wrong zip code or it's like he put the price in wrong because it was almost one of those things where it's too good to be true. And I actually do believe sometimes things are too good to be true.

Because I've been in situations where I'm like, this just doesn't check out. Like, why would this be in this neighborhood at this price? And then it's like, yeah, because you're actually rooming with six people, you know? that's why I was like, something's wrong here. So he was like, no, someone canceled last minute and the place is open. I was like, okay, great. So I booked this spot. I'm there for like a month. And I realized, wait, this spot is amazing. Like, can I just extend? But can we do it off Airbnb?

because I know that they get charged crazy fees and I can just pay you upfront for like the next three months. Usually people are like, no, I want to stay on Airbnb for the safety and the protections that Airbnb offers. Or they're like, I don't really know you that well. Like, let's just stay on Airbnb. This guy immediately was like, yeah, let's do it. So I got off Airbnb, I got to pay him. I got to keep that price for the three months. And then I had this crazy idea of like,

This could be ideal if I could have this apartment every time I came back to Cape Town, because I was always coming back to Cape Town every year and I wanted to start making it a more of a home base. And I just remember thinking, that's crazy. Like you can't ask someone to hold an apartment unless you are actually renting it or own it and then you can sublet it. That is why subletting exists is like, you're not here. Someone takes over your spot. But I remember thinking, I don't want to stay for the whole year and I don't want to rent it for the whole year and find a sublet. Let me just ask him.

The worst he can say is no, and we're just back to square one and I'll find Airbnbs like I usually do every place I travel. So I said, hey, I'm traveling here every year. I'm likely gonna stay six to eight months every single time I come. I would appreciate, we could work a deal out where I can just pay you upfront for the months I'm gonna be there and like lock it in months ahead of time, or give you like 90 days notice of when I'm coming back and you can block it off for me. And I remember being like, Chelsea, this is really stupid.

Chelsea (18:27.17) You cannot ask someone to do this. And I just sent the text and I thought he was gonna be like, let's, you know, let's talk about it on FaceTime or let's Zoom or maybe we can work this out at some point, but not right now. And it was an immediate yes. He was just like, yeah, let's do it. Like, that sounds great. Let me know what dates you wanna block it off and I'm happy to block it off for you. And then I was like, hold on a second, but there's gonna be in a but, you know, like I can do that, but I need you to assign this legal paperwork, but I'm gonna need you to send me six months of rent.

in cash upfront. But like I was waiting for the big other shoe to drop. I remember being very skeptical and I was just like, I don't know. And then that day never came. The shoe never dropped. There was no contract, no paperwork. So this deal was set up, I think two years ago at this point. And now every single time I go back to Cape Town, I get this apartment. By the way, he has kept the same rates. Cape Town is a total hotspot right now. The people are charging like New York prices for their flats.

I am paying what I paid back in 2022. In the winter, I pay a lower rate because I asked him because everyone's leaving. I was like, can I have a lower rate? He's like, yeah. So we worked that out. And it's actually to the point now where he messages me and he's like, hey, are you coming back because I'm going to block it off for you. But if not, let me know. This just happened two weeks ago. He checked in. He's like, hey, am I going to see you this summer? It's not this thing where I have to like keep following up and reminding him and hey, don't forget I'm coming back. Like he knows I'm kind of like his

main tenant, we don't have a contract in place, we don't have any like auto pay set up, anything. It is literally just trust and honoring our word and our commitment that we are going to keep the deal going. And I give him a notice if I'm not going to be there. And I've worked this out. And every time I tell people this story, they're like, this is just not how the world works. Like people don't do this. And I think that is what the number 10 is, like bringing it back to the circle is like we don't opt into that line of thinking. Like when people say

that's not how things work or people don't do it this way or that's not how traditionally things are done. just like, I don't believe in that line of thinking. I also think about this when it comes to the stock market or recessions or downturns or when people aren't buying during the holidays because every, know, there's splurging on money or no one's buying because it's a recession. I'm like, there's always someone that is buying. There's always someone that is thriving. There is always someone that makes it out. So why would I buy into the

Chelsea (20:50.24) other side of thinking that is where the person loses, like I just don't subscribe to that. that's my long, very long way of saying that yeah, luck and fortune has shown up in various ways. And to your point earlier, I have had to make a lot of it happen too. Like it's fallen in my lap and I've also made sure I can catch it.

Yes, yeah. And adding to like the luck and fortune, the sort of tag of that is that it's the natural magnet for synchronicity and flow. And so I think this is a really important key element to that because you allow yourself to be in flow. And talking about the landlord-tenant situation, my mom had the same tenant for like 15 years and she always said, I want to have a good tenant.

and I'm not trying to raise the rent just because I can, I'd rather have someone who's gonna care for the home and treat it well. And so when I hear you say that about your landlord situation in Cape Town, it's because he knows you're treating that place like home and he can trust that. And clearly he's also a person who believes in the synchronicity and flow as well, or else he wouldn't have said yes and felt.

that he could really trust you to be that person who's gonna continue to come back. You said something else that I wanted to chime into, which is the whole concept of the downturn. I have had friends say that to me before as well, like, well, it's kind of a bad time of the season for you, possibly because of people are paying for these things. thinking, you know.

I see a lot of BMWs flowing around and I see a lot of other things being purchased. And I'm not saying that everyone isn't affected in some form or fashion, but it's where do you decide to invest in your life? And what does that mean? It doesn't necessarily mean that it's gonna affect our businesses in some way, right?

Mariama (23:02.698) Actually, there's gonna be an episode about this and talking about investing and how you invest in your spiritual practitioners. But to me, it's the same with any other sort of service provider. If you are willing to pay $300 to $500 every four to six months to get your hair done, but you're not willing to invest in someone who's gonna support you in having a life that is fulfilled,

or healing in something or an area of your life or making your business run smoother or helping you to share your stories in a more meaningful way, I just want you to question why. We'll talk about that for another episode.

Yes. Oh my gosh. And I definitely want to like double click on the seasons thing because that I feel like that just shows up very classically around the holidays. Like if you're a service provider and you're selling something, people will tell you, well, you know, don't be surprised if people don't buy it because they're splurging on holiday gifts and this and that. I'm like, not everyone splurges on holiday gifts. I know actually a lot of my friends don't do gifts. They don't buy things for each other. Like we don't need more shit, but they will invest in something that makes their life better or that is going to support them. Not like

a new gadget or a new speaker, like I just don't subscribe to that during the holidays. Also, like when launching a new offer, I think people try to protect you sometimes and say like, you know, don't be afraid if you don't hit your financial goals and you know, it's okay to like lower the price for some people. And I've just realized, like I realized this because I do it too, is that's usually someone projecting their own experience or financial insecurities onto you. And that's what, like when we're bringing it back to our stories,

people just tend to bring their own life experience. So someone might've said, Chelsea, like asking a landlord to reserve a spot for your house every single year is insane because that has never worked out for them. So they're using their life experience. But if you think about it, if a hundred people did that and it worked out, people would say, duh, why aren't you doing that? Like you should be asking your landlord in advance. that's something that I always have to remember is as soon as someone tells me or tries to like warn me or give me a disclaimer or anything,

Chelsea (25:18.38) I take it very lightly with a grain of salt. I usually honestly like let it go past me because I'm like, that's your experience. And usually what I'm trying to do is just make it work with a very small handful of people. You know what I mean? Like with my landlord, I'm just asking one person. I don't need to talk to thousands of people to make that happen. I'm just talking to one guy that I have a relationship with. My new mastermind that I'm selling has nothing to do with what I've historically sold. And a lot of people were like,

This is really cool and like, you know, don't be afraid if you need to push it back or lower the price or maybe just you do a beta round and this and that. And I was just like, all I need is 10 people. I am connected to so many people. I only need 10 people. By the way, I don't actually even need 10 people. I desire 10 people, but I don't need 10 people. And so that's the other thing that flipped my thinking too is like, I am not desperate for this. And what you were talking about earlier with flow, if

I have five people in right now. If the other five don't come, I am so fine with the group that showed up that I'm like, it's complete. Like I feel so at ease. I don't feel urgency to rush. And that's where I feel like the opposite can happen is where you're like, I need this landlord thing to work, right? And now I'm all of sudden like threatening him and pressuring him and being like, well, I'm going to write a bad review. That's when you start acting out of integrity. Same thing with the mastermind. If I was taking all these people's projections and being like,

Well, this person can have it half off and this person can do it for free and this person I'm going to charge triple. It's like, you just start acting out of integrity. So now instead of choosing to absorb people's projections, I'm just like, thank you for your warning. That's probably your lived experience. I am not trying to convince everyone in the world to work with me or give me these offers or work something out. I'm just working off my relationships. And I think that sense of groundedness and calmness actually is what opens up our minds more.

Because when you're calm, you can actually imagine more and think more. Where to your point earlier with your house, if you were freaking out like, what the hell, why is it not selling? Going crazy. You probably still would be trying to sell that house. But you just had that moment of calm to be like, I know exactly what the next step is. And I think that's the part that honestly doesn't get talked about enough is like the more calm you are and trusting, the more solutions do actually reveal themselves to you.

Mariama (27:37.134) Yes.

Mariama (27:46.446) When you start honoring your intuition and you're taking swings with no expectation, life becomes a conversation that is going to help you to win. This is something that I help my clients with and I would love to see how I can help you take action during my free one-on-one illumination call. You're going to find the details for that in the show notes from this episode.
