Send us a text

Ever find yourself chasing after desires that ultimately leave you feeling empty? On this episode of the Soul Fuel Podcast, we tackle the profound theme of using our time and talents wisely, according to God's plan. Pastor Will Robbins III shares personal anecdotes about the distractions that come from pursuing material wants, like cars and homes, which can lead us away from truly appreciating God's blessings. Through the wisdom of Proverbs 3:5-6, we explore the importance of trusting in God's direction and discerning between our wants and needs to stay on the right path. This heartfelt discussion aims to help you recognize and avoid the pitfalls of investing time and energy in pursuits that don't serve your greater purpose.

Struggling with time management and feeling the pressure of comparison? Pastor Will opens up about his own battles with these issues, highlighting the individual nature of each person's journey. By sharing his experiences with the temptations of following others' paths—like returning to traditional schooling despite unique personal responsibilities—we understand the value of individualized education routes and opportunities.

Speaker 1:

that you can look up and see that, hey, first of all, it's not too late to go back to school to do something that you want to do. If you want to get stronger in business, you want to have a better business mindset, whatever you feel like you need to do in all your ways, acknowledge him and he's going to direct your path. Last thing you want to do is complicate your life by doing what's going on everybody. It's the soul fuel podcast. Welcome back to another episode, the pit stop for you to get your soul gassed up for your journey in life, and also doing it with Christ. Of course, there is no other way to do it. I'm your host, will Robbins III, aka Pastor Will. Listen, I just want to continue to talk from a previous episode that we had and I didn't really get a chance to say everything that I wanted to say, everything that needed to be said.

Speaker 1:

As it regards to wasting time, you can't waste time. I just want to come back to remind you that you can't waste time because if you do, you'll look up. Time ago by and you'll look up and you'll see that there has nothing that has been accomplished. So don't waste time on foolishness. Don't waste time on people. What do you mean by that? Well, you can't afford to waste time on not just people, but stupid people, ignorant people, people who choose to be ignorant, people who choose to be willfully stupid, stupid, right? You can't afford to waste time, because if you waste time and it is at the fault of firstly, your own, then it's them, right, they become the reason, even though it's your fault. Does that make sense? It's your fault if you allow people to become the reason that you waste time. I have to say it like that because there is really no other way to say it. Don't waste your resources on people who don't want to be helped, who don't want to move past where they are, because it's not doing anything but holding you back.

Speaker 1:

At the end of the day, it's not doing anything, but holding you back. It's stopping you from doing what you know you're supposed to be doing. It's stopping you from using your gift and your talent that God has given you to be able to bring glory to his name. It slows you down and oftentimes we find ourselves not where we want to be because we wasted time not just on people, but on trying to gain things that we don't need. We're trying to gain things that we don't need.

Speaker 1:

I don't know about you, but I I have wasted some time before in the past where I was trying to gain something that I know I didn't really need, such as cars, a car, a particular kind of place to live, because the fact of the matter is I had what I needed. The Lord has always supplied what I needed. It's just not what I wanted, and when you get caught up in what you want versus what you need, you will always waste time. You'll always be procrastinating because you'll you'll be putting yourself in a place that, first of all, is not pleasing in the sight of the Lord, and you stress yourself out. Have you ever thought about that?

Speaker 1:

Everybody who's worked so hard to get some of the things that they got, it was very. Not only did it take hard work, pretty much everything takes hard work. There's no. We're not eliminating hard work like hard, genuine work. We're not eliminating that. I'm not talking against that. I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about when you go out of your way to achieve a certain thing, when you go out of your way to try to pursue something that it's looking like it's not for you right now. It's not the time of your life that you need to be going after a particular kind of job. Right, you have different responsibilities. You have to be able again, again, to go back to proverbs 3 mindset and and and trust in the lord with all your heart, doing what, leaning not to your own understanding.

Speaker 1:

I think this is the reason why I love that scripture so much is because people tend to overlook the fact that they're doing exactly what Proverbs says not to do. Think about it, like, really think about that. People don't realize it. It's a very popular text, it's a very popular proverb, penned by none other than Big Solomon, big Solo, none other than Big Solomon, big Solo, like nobody. I don't think people are really, really, really understanding that. You know what? Let me pull it up. Let me pull it up. I'm getting ready to pull it up. Proverbs 3, I really, I really want to look at this. Proverbs three Let me get old. Good, uh, nasb on you. Watch this. Verse three Um, not verse three. Chapter three Proverbs, chapter three says verse in verse um, five trust in the lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.

Speaker 1:

In all your ways, submit to him and he will make your path straight. Another version says he will direct your path. I like direct path because not all the time is the path going to seem straightforward, right. There are going to be some zigzags, there are going to be some turns. That's why I like King James Version when it says direct your path because your path, like we know that the path with him is straight and narrow. We know this.

Speaker 1:

But as we navigate through life and life's turns and obstacles, we have to understand that if we acknowledge him through all of our ways and the ways that we go, it doesn't matter what we face, because we're still on a straight and narrow, because he's the one that is directing the path. And when you know that he's directing the path, it's never wasted time. But again, when we lean to our own understanding, when we think we know and we don't, we lead ourselves to problems that don't even have to take place. We know, again, that problems will arise. We're going to have challenges, we're going to have different things that are going to happen in life. That are going to happen in life. But all of that is a part of our experience in our time, that is here, that we have here on earth as believers.

Speaker 1:

So, again, this is a call to remind you again in this part two of that past episode, the previous episode, to not waste time on people. Don't waste time chasing things that don't even matter. Don't try to be wise in your own eyes, according to verse 7. Do not be wise in your own eyes. Fear the Lord and shun evil. Fear the Lord and do away with evil. This is a constant choice daily, straight up. It's a constant choice daily, and when you don't waste time, watch this. You are able to be diligent. You're able to be diligent to take your work serious, to take all of your time serious, to do what it is you have to do.

Speaker 1:

Again, I've said this many times before I've been guilty of poor time management recording these episodes. I told myself I'm going to do better at getting these episodes recorded, because there are people that want to hear what I have to say, that what the Lord gives me, what to say and what to share, how to share it. This is a platform that I'm using to talk about the things that happen in life, some of the even sharing my own stories. There are times where I felt like I wasted so much time, and when you stop and think about the past and how you possibly have wasted time. It makes you feel not so good. It doesn't feel good to feel like you wasted time Because there were times where I looked at other people's careers and film and not more so, not even ministry, but just like film and and cinematography and directing and I've seen other people's journeys and I said what have I done with my time? What have I done with my time? And I believe I kind of shared a little bit of this in the previous episode.

Speaker 1:

But I want to go further and say this that I was double-minded. I was double-minded in thinking in one breath I'm like okay, okay, that's not my path, I can't. You know they. They went to usc, they went to uh, um, um, you know these, these different colleges. They went to nyu. You know they, they, they did this. Maybe I need to do that. Maybe I need to go back to school.

Speaker 1:

I even entertained going back to school so I could go back, so so that I could try to um achieve my goals in the same way that they happen for other people in the industry that I wanted to be a part of, when, according to my life and the things that I have going on and my responsibilities, my wife, my children, where I live, what I have access to, the money in the bank. I didn't have the coins to go back to school, to go to school and do the things that I felt like I needed to do to achieve my goal at a higher standard, because I was stuck in the mindset of comparison, and comparison absolutely kills Comparison, kills your drive, it kills your energy. It ultimately chokes your faith. It chokes your faith. It chokes your faith because you're looking to try to add up, add up and tally up all these different milestones that are not going to be the same, because you have a different calling and you have to realize that your gift is not always the thing that you were called to do, but the gift is always to compliment your calling.

Speaker 1:

There are some people that ended up doing things that they never thought that they would do and they wasted time. So many people go to college and graduate and go into fields that they didn't even go to school for and it seems like they have wasted so much time. In all actuality, they should have, probably, and if you are in this situation right now, or if you have children that are in this situation right now in college or getting ready to come out of high school, getting ready to graduate or whatever it is. They have to keep that mindset that, hey, just because you go to college does not mean you come out to go work for somebody to do the thing that you went to school for, but sometimes it means that you got everything. You did the four year institution, you did that study at a two year college, the technical institute, whatever it is that you did community college, whatever Right. You did that so that you could come out and start your own and do your own and be successful at that and let the Lord lead you in that, instead of trying to oh well, see, I got to be in the industry first. I need to be where somebody will know that's cool and that's fine. Yeah, we should be learning from other people that are already doing it, but at the same time, you could just make that an internship while you are working what God has put into your hands.

Speaker 1:

This is why I, you know, when it comes to college and school, I am an advocate for education. I I am. But, however, I don't believe that college is for everybody. I don't believe that the four-year institution is for everybody. I don't believe that. You know, community college is for everybody. Sometimes I believe that technical college, a tech school of some sort, to go to school for a trade, is for everybody. Workshops, seminars, all of these things I believe are more beneficial to an individual so that they are proficient or efficient with their time, so they're not wasting time.

Speaker 1:

You know, I never wanted to have a college experience or the HBCU experience, because a lot of times that's why people go. People go to college just so they can experience and have the college experience, but it comes with a price tag. All this stuff is set up to kind of keep you in debt and all of these things. So when you go, you have to make sure that you're going and you have to stay focused. And so shout out to all the people that went to college and went to college and came out and eventually ended up doing what they wanted to do. Um, you know, shout out to you, shout out to you.

Speaker 1:

But I mentioned all of that and I I say all of that to get back around to how I felt like that's what I needed to do. I needed to go back and kind of like, try to start over now. It's too late. It was too late for me, and that's not to say that I can't go back to school now. I could do whatever I want, you know. Uh, you know, based on my ability of having free will, I can do whatever I want. But is that what the Lord wants me to do? Is that what's best for me to do? You know, even being married now, I have to consult with my wife like babe, should I go back and do this? And I'm sure she would probably be in my corner and support me, as she's done everything else. But I don't feel like I need to go back and get a piece of paper so that I can validate what I know. I'm already good at a piece of paper, so that I can validate what I know I'm already good at. It's on me to stop wasting time and put in the time and the effort it takes to go to the next level.

Speaker 1:

What you're watching right now, even as you watch or listen to this podcast, this is elevation. We are elevated. I am doing my best to elevate and I try to preach this and teach this, preach it and teach it to my children as much as possible. I even teach it, to teach it and preach it to my wife. I teach it and preach it to um, our church, everywhere. Every time I have the opportunity to speak to people and they want to listen to what I have to say.

Speaker 1:

In regards to faith and living in God and being all that we can be in God, and having faith and increasing in our faith is to understand. I want to make sure that we understand that we have to make the most of our time. You have to make the most of the time. You know, sometimes days go by there. There's certain not days, but there'll be a particular day in the week where I know that I wasted a day like for real. I can't stand those days. This summer, I feel like I spent a lot of time, you know, creating, preaching, doing, doing a lot of things that I love. I spent a lot of time, probably with my oldest son and going to the gym, working out, playing basketball All those things are cool, but what have I done at the end of the day, at the end of by the time we get to the end of summer, what have I done to expand on that? So I can say this in this episode straight up. I have seen some success. Seen some success today, as I am recording this episode. Earlier today I finished a script to my second feature film, so I am ecstatic about that, I'm excited about that.

Speaker 1:

Sent the new version to two of my actresses that I, you know, I hit up to be in the movie. I'm working on the other one, you know, and I spoke to another actress friend of mine, when I told her the um idea, she asked. She began to like question the, the, the storyline, and she questioned it by asking me why. Like every time I said something, she was like why? And then it got to a point to where I couldn't, I didn't know why anymore. And so shout out to those kind of people who are there to challenge you and push you to be better, push things to be better because you are better, because you can be better.

Speaker 1:

So, with that being said, I'm telling you this because it made the project better. She told me this Saturday I hit her up and I was like, hey, I just want to let you know I'm working on this project and she's been busy, whatever. So she hit me back late and, um, she was like give me a call. So I called her and I told her about it and that's when she said what she said and I said you know what, thank you, I appreciate you, I appreciate it, and it actually put push the project more into glorifying God.

Speaker 1:

It's not that it wasn't before, but it just it wasn't all the way focused, if I'm being honest, and so now it just just laser beam right on point, right where I need it to be, especially for those, you know, those people that will come across this movie, that are going through some of the things that, that, that one or so. So, yeah, shout out to having some artistic friends who you can, you know, um, bounce things off of, because this, this fifth version, this is my fifth, I believe my fifth version of this movie. Right, it's now in a place where there's some word in it like actual word and it's not corny, it's not preachy, it's not, it's. I felt it's in a, it's in the right place. And so another reason why I told you this is because I didn't waste any time.

Speaker 1:

I took Monday, today's Tuesday, of this recording. I took Monday and Tuesday and I wrote this Today. I was super tired. I took like a two-hour, three-hour nap because I went to bed late Again, wasting time.

Speaker 1:

I don't mind going to bed late. If I'm getting something done, I don't mind it. Sometimes I go to bed late, just falling asleep on YouTube, being distracted by things that don't really matter. It's not sinful, but it's a waste of time. Too much wasted time can can go into sin, depending on what you're doing.

Speaker 1:

But this is the purpose of of of part two, and I hope I've said something in this episode that you can really put into action, that you can look up and see that, hey, first of all, it's not too late to go back to school to do something that you want to do. If you want to, to get stronger in business, you want to have a better business mindset, whatever you feel like you need to do in all your ways, acknowledge him and he's going to direct your path. Last thing you want to do is complicate your life by doing something that's not pleasing in the sight. Listen, as I always do, I have to give you some scripture here. Proverbs 14, we've already mentioned Proverbs 3, but Proverbs 14 and 23 says all hard work brings a profit, all hard work, all hard work brings a profit.

Speaker 1:

But mere talk leads only to poverty. That's why you got to put up or shut up, like the other episode said, what we talked about in the other episode. You got to put up or shut up, do it or be quiet, because just talk by itself leads to nothing. It's just like what scripture talks about when it comes to living a life in Christ, living holy. Put up or shut up, don't just talk it, but you got to walk it. Y'all know that song Walk it like I talk it, walk it, walk it like I talk it. Come on, you got to not just talk the talk but also walk it. There's more power behind the walking, because the power in the walking is going to bring power to your talking. Why? Because we can believe what you say, or the lord believes what you say, but based on your actions.

Speaker 1:

I'm to say this the Lord blessed Abraham because he believed Abraham. Why did he believe Abraham? Because Abraham got to walk it. When he told him, go to a place where I will show you, he didn't tell Abraham where he was going. He didn't tell Abraham hey, it's going to be Mount Moriah, I'm going to tell you, but you just got to go first. So Abraham did not waste any time. He picked up, he took his son, he took Isaac, he took a couple other people with him and they went about their way and the Lord showed him on the third day where to go. So he takes up Isaac, isaac goes. You know the story Turns out.

Speaker 1:

The Lord just wanted to see him make the offer. He just wanted to see him make the offer. I just wanted to see if you were willing to do it offer. I just wanted to see if you were willing to do. I just wanted to see if you were going to go there. I he couldn't let that happen, right, because Jesus was already the.

Speaker 1:

Jesus was the ram in the bush for for us, and and it was because of Abraham's ability to not waste time and walk the walk instead of just talking, that the Lord was pleased by his faith, which is why today we can even look back and even go to Hebrews and look in Hebrews and and so many other places where, where, where Paul talks about Abraham and how Abraham is the father of faith. Even Jesus mentions Abraham. Abraham had faith, and so I hope this is the fuel that you needed so that you could keep on going even more, fuel that you needed so that you could keep on going even more. That's my goal. To bring you week after week is to bring you heavy nuggets or they might be light nuggets for you, I don't know For you to be able to keep going in God, to know that everything that you do in this life cannot be a product of wasted time.

Speaker 1:

Be smart. Remember what Proverbs says Proverbs 14, 23,. All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty. Remember that if you're gonna talk it, you gotta walk it so that when you walk it, your talking has power. Walk it like abraham did. Not all the time will you know exactly what the Lord is doing in the season of your life. You just have to trust him, trust the process, trust that he knows what he's doing. He promised to never leave you nor forsake you, so don't you leave him nor forsake him.

Speaker 1:
